Absolutely incredible!

My husband and I had our wedding at the Curtis Ballroom and it couldn't have been more perfect. Between the ambiance of the venue and the amazing staff, the day was absolutely perfect. Matthew was so incredible throughout the whole process of helping with visits, tastings and set up, we couldn't have had a better experience with an event manager for our big day, you could tell he truly cared to make our day perfect for us. We also recommend looking in to using Pixel Perfect Productions (https://pixelperfectprod.com) for photography, they really made us feel comfortable and special throughout the entire process of working with them. Another day saver was our amazing "Day of" event planner, Tahnee Penta (Tahnee.Penta@gmail.com), she truly amazed us with her fun personality, wonderful ideas and how incredibly caring and hard working she was through everything! We also used Michael at Mile High Music Patrol (michael@milehighmusicpatrol.com) for our DJ, he was awesome, super fun, cared about making sure he had all of the songs we wanted (and the ones we didn't want) and kept people on the dance floor all night. Honestly the best day of our lives and it seemed that everyone had a blast! I would say that any event you decide to do at the Curtis Ballroom will be a 10/10 without a doubt! Perfect wedding venue!!

Our daughter’s wedding couldn’t have been more perfect! Just walking into The Curtis Ballroom you start to envision your wedding day or special event being held here. It is an amazing venue that offers a bar and table seating area, dance floor and beautiful outdoor patio. The event staff did an outstanding job to make sure everything was handled perfectly. An extra shout out to Matthew who made sure all our needs were met. He truly went above and beyond!! We also recommend Pixel Perfect Production for photography. They are a team who take a very personal approach to wedding photography and their work is not only superb but fit within our budget. Another savior of our day was hiring a “Day Of” event planner (she did much more than day of planning though!). Tahnee Penta is a powerhouse who is full of energy, great ideas, and personality plus!! (Tahnee.Penta@gmail.com) The entire experience brought all our guests together and everyone danced and had fun together whether they had known each other before or not! One of the best weddings we’ve ever attended!!!

Wonderful Customer Service

We did not use the Landmark for our venue solely because of the venue size, but I would highly recommend any couple look into the Landmark for an affordable venue option in Denver. The staff was responsive, knowledgeable, and so friendly! I cannot say enough good things about their event coordinator, Lydia. She ensured I was well informed to make a venue decision and seemed willing to go above and beyond to provide me with everything I was looking for.

Amazing wedding experience!

We got married here in August of 2019, and could not be happier! The venue had the perfect mix of location, price, ambiance, and size. There was a wide variety of food options, and it all tasted great on the day of the wedding. Lydia was an enormous help throughout the whole process, and made sure we kept to specific deadlines. On the final day, she made sure everything ran smoothly without hiccups, and let us enjoy our big day without any interruption. We definitely recommend The Curtis for a perfect wedding with mountain views!

The perfect space and perfect staff for an intimate wedding celebration!

The staff at the Curtis Ballroom are excellent, attentive, responsive, and professional. Lydia was our point of contact with the venue and she helped us through every step of the planning process. She and her staff were clearly experienced and made sure that everything on our special day went smoothly. It was also so easy to have the food and bar packages through the venue without having to go through extra vendors. The mushroom ravioli entree received rave reviews from all of our guests! We are so glad we booked our wedding with The Curtis Ballroom.

Fabulous!

I cannot say enough about this venue, the food and the staff. Everything was perfect from day 1. Brianna was our event coordinator and she was so kind and courteous throughout the process. We actually found this little gem while at another function...my husband's Christmas party. Fell in love with the size of the room, the ambience and the food. Our wedding was on the smaller side, 60ppl, but it felt so intimate and fun. The patio was decorated just perfectly, with the stone fireplace on in the background, taking a little chill off the late May evening (it had just snowed a few days before...Colorado!) Choosing our food was so difficult because we loved everything we tasted. You WILL NOT be sorry if you pick Curtis Ballroom at the Landmark for your wedding event....or any other for that matter!

The Curtis Ballroom at the Landmark in DTC was the perfect venue for our mid-August wedding reception! Jenna and her team were amazing in everyway! She helped me come up with ideas for the décor and centerpieces and they even helped with some of the set up! The food was amazing! We got endless complements on the salmon and steak the venue prepared and served! The Bar package was reasonable and they were flexible in allowing us to extend our "open-bar" package on an as needed basis. I cannot recommend them enough!

Kacey was absolutely amazing. All of my ideas came to life and had zero stress day of the wedding. Kacey communicated very well throughout the process. Venue was prefect for my small intimate wedding. Would definitely recommend them to any soon to be bride.

We highly recommend Curtis Ballroom and especially Kacey! She was great to work with. The venue itself was perfect for our rehearsal dinner for 120 people! The outside patio with a view of the mountains is great. Since there was a heatwave in Denver that night, we didn't get to use the fireplace outside unfortunately. Everyone was very friendly, accomodating. Food was very good, and special diets were accommodated without issue.

If you're looking for a top-notch venue for your wedding (or other special event), we highly recommend the Curtis Ballroom at the Landmark Center! From our first inquiry, through the entire event, and the post-event follow-up, we could not have been more pleased with the people, the service, the quality and taste of the food, and the overall execution of our event. Kacey Shapiro and the staff could not have been more genuinely helpful in making sure our wedding was perfect. We truly felt 'taken care of' throughout the planning of our wedding and especially on-site during the afternoon/evening of our ceremony and reception.

We held our wedding on the rooftop deck (facing West for the sunset) but had the flexibility to move things indoors if the weather didn't cooperate -- fortunately, we didn't have to do that! The inside spaces of the Curtis Ballroom are close enough to each other to be very conducive for an event while at the same time they are spread out a bit and on different levels for visual appeal.

As is the norm for the banquet industry, there are various 'fees' (administrative fees, service fees, etc.) that really add up. While those fees may be a way to pad the bill at other places (i.e., the fees are arbitrarily charged and you can't really put your finger on what you actually paid for), I can honestly say that by the end of our event, I fully understood the value that the Curtis Ballroom gave us in exchange for the fees we paid and will definitely recommend Kacey and the Curtis Ballroom to anyone I know who is considering a well-hosted event. 10K wedding budget in Landmark/Greenwood Village was a success with this venue!
I began searching for rooftop venues on the internet after seeing some inspiration on the internet. Curtis Ballroom popped up,
and was referred to as a "great value" on various reviews, and the photos of the sunset views from the rooftop on Google images were undeniably beautiful.
I was a little skeptical, as many of you know, "Greenwood Village/Landmark" is a nice area, full of luxury living and shopping. For me, this meant I needed to figure out what other people thought was "great value."
I met with the venue, come to find that on a 10k budget, this venue, including cermony, reception, food (bread, salad, three entree selections, a served cheesecake, and some money down on a bar) was only about half of my budget, leaving us with SO MUCH room for other things.
The interior of the venue is unique and beautiful, a gorgeous, dark wood dance floor, raised seating area for guests, nice lighting, and a dedicated bar.
The outside roodtop patio is AMAZING, with a fireplace that people would oay a premium to have (we didnt even need an altar).
Jenna and intern Mika were absolutely amazing, helping us with our lack of knowledge, creating functional layout, and her team decorated the venue for us which was crazy! I described what I wanted, brought all my DIY centerpieces and decor, and they nailed the setup. Jenna kept everything flowing and I did not worry about a single detail, I drank, ate, and had so much fun.

Huge menu selection, can bring in outisde food/desert, great vendor recommendations for DJs, etc., and very organized.

The only thing I would say is that the venue makes extra food in case extra people showed up, we had about 15 people that never showed up, and somehow there were no left overs for us to take... but I'll assume that my guests loved the food so much that they ate double or triple their servings.

We are so happy we picked Curtis Ballroom at the Landmark for our wedding/reception! We could not have asked for a more accommodating staff who was willing to work with us on our requests. The floor to ceiling windows offer a wonderful view of the mountains (it rained and was cloudy on our big day but we knew they were there). The pricing on everything from the rental of the space to the use of their restaurants food was amazing! I highly recommend using their food options, everyone has been complimenting us on the menu provided on the big day!! Thank you for making our day everything we could have imagined and more! I cannot say enough good things about this place. A special shout out to Kacey for helping us through the whole process including the day of!! You are AMAZING!!

The Curtis Ballroom proved to be a fantastic wedding reception venue for us. Leading up to the event, Kacey, our director, was so communicative and helpful, and made myself, my fiancé, and my family feel at ease. The day of our wedding, Kacey and her staff were patient with working with us, so accommodating, kind, helpful, went above and beyond in performance. The Curtis Ballroom venue and team was so accommodating and flexible with all of our interests and needs. The venue was also perfect for our reception. Where do I began? I absolutely love this venue!! We fell in love with the venue the first time we saw it and we knew that this was the perfect place for us to get married. We had our wedding ceremony and reception at the Curtis Ballroom at the Landmark on September 17, 2016. Kacey and her staff were amazing and we had the best time. We opted for several food stations (mac and cheese! tacos!! loaded baked potatoes!!!). Our guests were amazed at the taste and variety of the food! The bartenders were amazing and we got a lot of compliments on being served quickly. Kacey was also great when it came to helping set up decorations - the place looked amazing and just as I had described to her. It was super convenient to have the ceremony and reception all in one place and to use the in house catering and bar service. The Landmark area is also great- my guests had plenty of places to stay and things to do before and after the wedding. Thanks, Kacey and staff! We can't thank you enough!

Truth be told, I have no idea how to even start this review, because I was so impressed by everything. Literally EVERYTHING was perfect - down to everything from the temperature of the room, to the napkins on the table. I was 100% blown away. Let's start from the beginning, shall we.

About 6 months ago, my husband and I were in search of the perfect wedding venue. We had the idea of a rooftop/terrace ceremony and reception (which was exactly what we got with Curtis Ballroom). We set up an appointment, enter Kacey. A smart, bubbly, young woman, who was eager to help us and create our perfect day! After her introduction and rundown of how weddings typically go there, we booked right away. I'm sure glad we did!

The months before our wedding, we met multiple times with Kacey - who proved to be the best coordinator for us. She ensured our day would be perfect by calling all our vendors, ordering swatches of napkins for us to choose from, digging through the alcohol agreements to determine if they carried a specific beer we wanted at our reception, gave us a complete walk through before the rehearsal, allowed all our family members to come view the space before the wedding and even helped us create a custom cocktail (and cute name!) for our reception! I can't even stress how amazing she and her staff are. Wedding night : normally pretty stressful for any bride, but not me! The tables were set up perfectly (per a picture I had given her of what we wanted our centerpieces to look like), our cake table looked fabulous, and had her staff perfectly time my entrance. Her staff made sure our buffet was perfect, salads brought to each table, drinks poured strongly and consistently, and made the evening seamless. I could easily spend my entire review talking about Kacey and her staff, but there are other elements that make this venue unique and perfect for any wedding. Perfect location, killer view and a wonderful memory!

Joel and I could not have been happier with our big day! Every detail was covered. We didn't have a wedding coordinator and Jenna and the staff at the Curtis made the event flow so smoothly! It was decorated exactly the way we envisioned it. They really listened to what we were looking for and made it happen. We've already had so many compliments on the venue, the food, and the staff from our guests. They loved it and so did we. I would recommend this venue to anyone looking to get married in Colorado! This was the perfect venue for my daughter's Bat Mitzvah party. We had about 100 guests and it was the perfect size to accommodate that many people. The staff is so easy to work with and it is very reasonably priced. The outdoor space is so elegant. I would definitely recommend the Curtis Ballroom and will use them again.

The Curtis Ballroom was a great venue for our event. Our primary contact, Elizabeth, was helpful, responsive, and easy to reach throughout our whole planning process. On the day of the day of the event, the room looked beautiful - they set it up exactly as we had discussed and handled all the decor as per our plan (we were at the service so could not be there to see the set up before our guests arrived). Elizabeth and her team laid out the tables, settings, and furniture along with our centerpieces, seating cards, everything according to our plan.

The room is wonderful. The sunken dance floor is set apart just enough to create a little separation but yet, everyone can still be part of the festivities on and off the dance floor. The patio space is the gem of the space. We loved having the outside patio with the fireplace, couches, and heaters (our event was in early March) for our guests to enjoy. The kids hung out outside much of the evening which was great for everyone!

Finally, the food was delicious. Many of our guests commented (unsolicited) how tasty everything was and how friendly and helpful the staff were. Truly - our celebration was everything I'd hope it would be. The space enabled us to create the feeling we wanted - which was elegant and yet comfortable for a family celebration.

This is an amazing venue, I had my wedding reception here last year and there aren't enough good things I can say about this venue and the people who work there! Everything was taken care of with such professionalism, they made my the entire process so effortless. The food was absolutely DELICIOUS, and the view was stunning. All I can say is WOW!!! We had our wedding reception at the Curtis Ballroom and it was the most amazing night of our lives. Kacey Russell was our event coordinator and she was beyond AMAZING. We originally booked with a Venue called 221 that was set to open in Cherry Creek North and dealing with that was a nightmare, the owner canceled on us 4 months prior to the wedding and I was at a loss. It was truly a blessing that the Curtis Ballroom was still available for our date, and Kacey was by far the most helpful, considerate, and dependable vendor I worked with throughout my entire wedding planning experience. The Curtis Ballroom is gorgeous and was the PERFECT fit for our wedding. We used the in-house catering and it was 100X better then any outside caterer we tried, everyone raved about the food. The service was above and beyond throughout the entire process and Kacey took very good care of me through my bridezilla moments :) She must have changed my contract 100 times and did everything she could to make my day so special. I could rave about the Curtis Ballroom for days....literally. If you are looking into this venue there is no doubt in my mind that it will be amazing for whatever event you are hosting. I was so in love with my wedding I truly would not have changed a thing and would do it at the Curtis Ballroom again in a second. I will be recommending the venue along with Kacey to all my friends. We had our wedding at the Curtis Ballroom on June 21, 2014. Elizabeth was amazing. She was organized, always helpful, and kept everything running smooth. The venue is beautiful and we would do it there again in a second. It was wonderful having the wedding outside on the rooftop and the reception both inside and outside. We had approximately 65 guests and the space was perfect for that. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone!

The venue is perfect for a wedding reception! Through the whole planning process and for the actual wedding reception, the staff and event coordinator were very flexible and accommodating. They helped with all of my request and offered great suggestions. They also offer very reasonable prices and help with all coordination with external vendors/services. Overall it was the perfect event and they assisted us from start to finish and made everything easy and custom for us.

Our wedding at the Curtis Ballroom was everything I had hoped for and turned out even better than I could have imagined! The staff is friendly, attentive to detail, organized, the food was great; the event planners' flexibility with last minute changes, and very reasonable costs made the whole process very enjoyable! The alI-in-one location made life easier for our out-of-state guests, the views are amazing and the chic, intimate vibe to the Ballroom was a big hit. I loved having my wedding here, and the compliments from our guests keep coming!!

The Curtis Ballroom was fabulous! The venue is beautiful, elegant, and cozy and perfect for our wedding.

We worked with Kacey and Elizbeth, both of whom were professional, organized, responsive, and enthusiastic from the very beginning. We had 12 weeks to plan our wedding and everyone was very accommodating and helpful.

We originally planned to hold our reception outdoors on the patio but unfortunately the rain changed our plans. Instead, the ceremony was moved inside and went off without a hitch. The crew at the Curtis did a great job making the last minute switch. Throughout the weeks leading up to the ceremony and during the wedding, everyone was great to work with and we truly appreciated their efforts.

We hosted a buffet with salmon and steak and everyone loved their meal. The food was great.
We had 120 guests at our reception, which was a perfect number for this location.

Thanks to the folks at the Curtis for a wonderful event. I highly recommend this venue for your wedding. Tim

This venue is the best! They were very professional. Wedding planning is stressful but I never once had to worry about the venue or catering. They did everything I asked for. The food was great. The reception looked amazing. They were very flexible with our decorations and very helpful with setting everything up. It turned out better than I pictured. Honestly, my wedding was perfect. Nothing went wrong. Thank you for everything Anna!!

The Curtis Ballroom is the best kept secret for wedding reception venues in Denver. The price was perfect for my husband. I really wanted to feel special and I loved that they only offer one event per day. The food was amazing! I got to meet chef Jesus and he was such a delightful man. BONUS, the view on the balcony is stunning especially at sunset. It is easily accessible for elderly folks because the only way in is up the elevator! It makes for a grand entrance indeed!

Kacey was my event coordinator and she was awesome! I have never planned a wedding before, (and hopefully never will again) and my experience with her through the entire process was great, she was very timely in responding to my calls/emails, she worked with all of my vendors, and assured me she would make sure they knew exactly how to get to the venue. She took a few liberties with setting up the decor....and trust me,..she has fantastic taste.

Thank you Curtis Ballroom for truly making our day so unique and special, it was elegant and classy with just the right amount of whimsical fun...my theme was sophisticated fun,and you nailed it!

Anna, the event coordinator at the Curtis Ballroom is AMAZING!She was very organized and kept everything on track both before and day of. Everything kept to our timeline and the service was incredible. I guests really enjoyed the bar tenders. Very personable and friendly. 90% of our guests were also from outside of Denver, so they loved the venue and the patio. It has great views of the mountains and downtown. Everyone was taking beautiful pictures during sunset. Beautiful venue with great service that can't be beat. And it's very reasonably priced, which is the icing on the cake!

Our wedding was ah...mazing! Anna was so helpful through the entire process from start to finish and made the day go very smoothly. Give that girl a raise :0) I would recommend this venue to anyone. I truly had the best night of my life and everything from the event staff, to the DJ, to the food to the bartenders was awesome. I couldn't have asked for more! Thank you!

The staff was extremely helpful before and during the event. The only thing that wasn't ideal is the area the bride can use to dress- not great lighting, no mirror, and then you have to walk back through the restaurant.

Comedy Works Events offered an amazing atmosphere and venue that was so beautiful and most people would not think of the Comedy Works for such an amazing wedding venue. The downtown views and the mountain views from the rooftop patio made for beautiful pictures! Its a unique and fun setting just like my wedding was! The food was exceptional and surpassed guest's expectations and was probably the best food I've ever had at a wedding. The prices are amazing and Anna Erickson was an amazing event planner and helped out immensely and is very knowledgeable when it comes to weddings!!!!

Working with Kacey was fantastic! She was very professional, always responded to my emails promptly, and was on top of every detail. She was also very accommodating with special requests. I couldn't have done it without her--it was just so wonderful knowing that someone was "in our corner," working to make sure that it turned out as we had imagined. Our party was magical, and we are so happy to have these amazing memories at Curtis Ballroom!

Great place for our October wedding with indoor/outdoor availability for reception. Keep it simple as the place itself has enough class. We had around 150 guests and that was comfortable. Many more than that may have felt crowded. Kacey and staff provided excellent service! Exit of the bridal couple was in hall leading to elevator and we used ribbon streamers with a stick that were perfect and no mess for clean up.

Kacey and the Curtis Ballroom were perfect! Everyone says to expect something to go wrong on your big day but we didn't have anything go wrong and I think that has to do a lot with how organized and helpful Kacey was. We also did not have to hire a day of coordinator because Kacey did all of it! She set up our handmade center pieces, laid out party favors and even strung lights for us. She really did an amazing job. Plus the view, at sunset, is unbeatable and makes for really great pictures. I would highly recommend this venue without hesitation!

Elizabeth was responsive, easy to work with, and attentive to detail. I never had to check up on her, as I felt confident she had everything under control. Her suggestion as to which DJ to use was invaluable, as he turned out to do a great job. The venue was great, especially since it was such a lovely evening to enjoy the outdoor patio as well. We were very pleased with the Curtis Ballroom itself, the food, and the attentive service.

Everything was wonderful, the only thing that I got remarks on was the Chicken Parmesan. It was little hard to chew, I did notice when I finally had a chance to eat, their was quite a bit left of the chicken. But everything else was wonderful. The staff was great to work with, and you all were so helpful to me. Thank you so much. This was my last wedding, after 18 years I thought I would retire. But, my husband officiates weddings and I write the ceremonies for his weddings, so if asked I will certainly recommend the Curtis Ballroom.

Our reception was amazing at The Curtis Ballroom. Jenna was a huge help throughout the planning process, and available quickly anytime that we had questions or needed advice. I was hopeful that everything would come together nicely the day of, but having not seen everything set up in the space beforehand, I didn’t know. It was PERFECT. Their team did such a great job pulling together all the decor and making our vision come together perfectly.

Curtis ball room went above and beyond to make our day special. Our event coordinator Elizabeth was amazing. She accommodated all our requests. Curtis ballroom is the best place around town that you get the most bang for your buck. The food was amazing. The staff was very curtious to our guests. The balcony where we got married had awesome views. We chose to get married in front of fireplace. The dance floor allowed guests to dance all nignt! Words can not Express how perfect our day was and it was because the Curtis ballroom was amazing.

The venue was absolutely amazing! The modern look and feel of the Curtis Ballroom was elegant. The outside balcony was a plus. It was truly a wonderful experience having our wedding at the Curtis Ballroom at the Landmark. It was the right decision overall with pricing for the event rental/catering. We would recommend it to others thinking about planning for their wedding reception. The venue holds up to 200 people.

I might be biased but this was an amazing place. I had so many compliments on the location, the view and most importantly the food. We had steak and chicken with roasted vegetables and potatoes. We had so many compliments on the food people wanted to know where they can eat other times. The kids mac n cheese is a must. I had adults paying kids to get them a plate. Once all the kids ate, the staff was so cool that they brought the left over mac n cheese around to the tables and my guests ate it up. I have no reservation in recommending this place for a wedding and reception. I also used A+ music which was a on their vendor list as DJ's and the dancing never stopped. Amazing.

Heidi at the Comedy Works was EXTREMELY flexible with our reception, redoing the contract 10+ times to accommodate our changes. At the same time, it was sometimes weeks before we would hear back from her. Other times, she responded immediately. She did offer her personal cell phone a week before the wedding for any last minute changes however. The value for the cost was amazing, with Liquor being the clear outlier. Our reception in the end went over without a hitch, and we loved it! Beautiful place too!

Insist on a rehersal time. The staff was great that day, but because there wasn't a rehersal, our timing details did not get communicated to the staff. The bride was brought up late, the "walking in" music had to be played twice. We had a bit of a struggle getting the piano there and tuned, and time for the pianst to practise on that piano. On another note, however, The Curtis recommended the piano rental, decoration rental, and caterers list. In general their referrals were great. We loved the piano company and the decorations rental. The caterer we used at a different venue, and we were not as happy with them. We used the Curtis for all the food and drinks and were very happy with their choices, service and professionalism. Their food is great and the prices very reasonable.

Overall that night I was extremely happy with the service that was provided, servers were very attentive to my husband and I. Jenna was great and on point with everything and kept our wedding on track as much as possible. The staff was super friendly and they were quick to break down the ceremony and be in full swing with the reception. We did have a little over 15 people not show up due to an elder person's illness and were still charged for them which was fine, but I was a little disappointed that the food we paid for for them was not given to us, we were given very little food and definitely not enough for 15 or more people.

After that night I heard that the staff was going up to table to get alcohol beverage refills which I was not okay with, this pads the bar tab and makes me understand why my tab was $1,500 before dinner even started. Also I wanted my guests chose a flavor of cake (there was 3 different flavors) and they were forced to take whatever the server had and when asking for a different one they were told no. Which was not okay to me.

Overall I was satisfied but with that I was not happy to learn about these two things because that's not something that was discussed with me nor should be a normal practice.

we had a great experience here! it was hard to set up because we could not enter the venue until 2 hours before the ceremony. I wish we had more time. Also, during the ceremony there was live music playing downstairs and was distracting during the actual ceremony which began at 6:00pm Kasey and Jenna were fantastic!

Everything was perfect leading up to the wedding, and everyone was great to work with. On the Monday after the wedding, I told the venue that I would be by after work on Tuesday to settle the bill and retrieve the top of the wedding cake which I was assured was in the freezer. By Tuesday, however, the top of the cake was gone and despite the best efforts of our clean up team to remove all of the items from the venue after the reception, a few items were left behind but the venue did not hold onto them for us. As a result, we just celebrated our first wedding anniversary, but did not have any wedding cake to eat and no explanation as to what happened to it. Also watch out for the bussers--they take full drinks in an effort to get people to buy more. Even the father of the bride had full, cold beers removed within minutes of him getting a new one.

Warning - be sure elevator works

WARNING – Stressful. Make sure elevator works. Owner did not properly communicate. Background: on July 5, 2024 we had the rehearsal dinner/welcome party at the Curtis Ballroom for our son/future daughter-in-law in which 90% of the guests traveled from out of town. We planned an intimate dinner for 40 people of the wedding party from 5-7pm and then 85 more people/wedding guests would join a welcome party afterwards from 7-10pm for dessert/drinks. We looked forward to having both private events on the third floor Curtis Ballroom with its gorgeous rooftop terrace. Working with Brianna, Director of Events was wonderful.
On July 2nd, I went to the Curtis Ballroom to make sure things were ready to go. I was told that the elevator was broken and we’d have to climb the multiple levels of stairs and go through the fire emergency exit. I was highly concerned but reassured that it would be fixed by Friday. I reminded them that my wheelchair bound brother would be at the event and we had elderly people joining who were not accustomed to Denver’s altitude. I stressed that the elevator working was critical to our event and necessary for our guests.
HOWEVER, on July 5th at 12:30pm (less than 5 hours before our event), I received a phone call that the elevator would not be working at all because the needed replacement part could not be secured for 8-10 weeks out. I was asked to authorize moving the dinner to the second floor and authorize moving the welcome party to the main floor. The main floor is an open area for guests who eat/drink before going into Comedy Works show. There was a popular comedy show scheduled for the evening of July 5th so that area was already being utilized. I immediately dropped what I was doing and went to the venue to visualize the options. I had about 10 minutes to make a decision. I realized that by moving the event downstairs we would lose the rooftop terrace and the privacy. I decided to keep the elegance/tone of the private event and keep everything on the third floor. My handicapped brother was unable to attend, elderly family members felt ill after climbing the many stairs, along with all of our guests being uncomfortable with the hike up the stairs. For me the event was extremely stressful and not at all what we expected.
The week following the event, I emailed Brianna to ask for the owner’s contact info as I felt she was left to execute poor management choices. I explained that waiting until the last minute to communicate the elevator failure was not acceptable and I wanted to make sure other families didn’t have their special events marred. Instead, I received an email offering a 20% discount for the “inconvenience of the elevator malfunction on our special event”. My issue was never that the elevator broke but that they knew it was broken and failed to communicate this in a timely manner.
I have since exchanged emails with the owner who I feel has still not taken responsibility for poor communication. We are currently disputing the charges with our credit card company. I asked the owner to call me so we could resolve and instead she responded with another defensive email. We are not wanting to be unreasonable but a contingency plan with more than five hours notice should have occurred. I feel that a decision was made to wait until the last minute so I could not move the entire event elsewhere. For this reason we believe a 50% discount is reasonable. This was not a corporate event or a small group being moved it was 115 people for a special, private event being asked to move to a public location at the last minute when prior notice was possible.
