Choosing the Baltimore Museum of Art as our wedding venue was truly one of the best decisions we made throughout the planning process. From the moment we first toured the space, we knew it would offer the perfect balance of elegance, history, and modern artistry — and it exceeded every expectation.
The architecture and galleries provided a stunning backdrop from start to finish. Our guests were genuinely in awe of the setting, and many commented that it was one of the most unique and visually beautiful weddings they had ever attended. The Fox Court, with its soaring ceilings and marble columns, created a breathtaking atmosphere for dinner and dancing.
The BMA staff was consistently professional, organized, and attentive. Every detail — from logistics to timing to guest flow — was handled smoothly, allowing us to be fully present on our wedding day. We never once felt rushed or overwhelmed, and we always felt supported by a team that clearly knew how to execute events at the highest level.
Beyond its beauty, the BMA gave our day a sense of meaning and artistry that felt deeply personal. The venue didn’t just host our wedding, it elevated it.
We could not recommend the Baltimore Museum of Art more highly to any couple looking for a wedding space that is not only visually extraordinary, but expertly managed, inspiring, and unforgettable. -

Exceeded all expectations!
We got married at the BMA on July 26, 2025. Leading up to our wedding, Alicia was communicative, flexible, and incredibly helpful. On the day of, everything was perfect and truly exceeded all of our expectations. It was a hot day, but everyone at the BMA helped ensure wedding party and family were able to keep cool while we were taking pictures. The venue itself was so beautiful (both in person and in photos) and our guests had such a great time. We booked an extra hour so we could dance until midnight and were so glad we did. If we were to do it all again, we wouldn't change a single thing and that's a great feeling :) The BMA is such an incredible place and we are so grateful that we had the opportunity to celebrate there in a truly unique and unforgettable way. -

We had an amazing experience using the BMA for our wedding! We had our ceremony on the outside lawn and the reception was indoors. The grounds for the outdoor ceremony were well maintained and inside was very pristine and beautiful. All of our guests loved the elegance of the venue. The staff were also exceptional. Alicia was super helpful for the entire year leading up to our wedding, answering any questions we had in a timely manner and helping us by recommending vendors and suggestions for executing our vision. The staff that worked our reception was also amazing and helpful too. It was truly a night to remember and everything exceeded our expectations with how smooth everything was executed. I would recommend anyone looking to get married in Baltimore to have their wedding at the BMA for a wonderful and unforgettable experience. -

Alicia and the entire staff at the BMA gave us a magical venue for our wedding. She and her team were amazing through the entire process. She was also great when we had to move our wedding to a different date, and was super responsive with communication.
Don't be intimidated by what may seem to be a lot of restrictions by this venue. It was one of the most accommodating venues we found in the city. (Remember, it's an art museum, so there's certain precautions they have to take to preserve and protect what's inside and out of the museum!)
Alicia didn't hesitate to allow our two dogs to be a part of our ceremony on the West Lawn, and was also quick to allow them inside (if we had to for inclement weather... fortunately, we didn't need to).
Every one of our guests raved about how much they enjoyed the venue and their time at our wedding at the BMA. -

When we first walked into the BMA after touring a few other venues, we fell in love. The beauty of Fox Court + Antioch can't be beat. Not an event designer? Who cares? The BMA needs no help, she shines all on her own.
In addition to a stunning venue, Alicia is a master event planner walking you through every detail and makng sure things are perfect. She knows all the best vendors and has worked countless weddings. This is event plannign you can trust and you feel that she really enjoys it as well!
The night of - the BMA staff is there for you as well full of joy and fun while being so professional every step of the way.
If you are put off by the potential rules of having an event in a space with priceless art, don't be - the team here and the vendors take care of all the details for you. You won't even notice.

Our wedding at BMA absolutely stunning! It perfectly aligned with my vision for the wedding aesthetic, and I couldn’t be happier with our decision. Every area of the venue was equally beautiful, and I know our pictures will turn out fantastic.
Working with Alicia was a great experience. She was knowledgeable, responsive, and incredibly helpful. I especially appreciated her understanding and accommodation when I had to move my wedding date due to personal challenges.
The staff on the day of the wedding were also very helpful, ensuring everything ran smoothly. My guests loved the venue as well, and we received many compliments about its beauty.

My wife and I had the absolute pleasure of hosting our wedding at the BMA. The BMA Senior Director of Events Alicia Crosby was extremely responsive and provided clear instructions allowing our wedding to function smoothly.
The venue itself with the Moondust Lighting fixture was drop dead gorgeous. It truly was the most magical night of our life. I also cannot thank the BMA staff enough adding in flare, constantly taking care of us, and assisting elderly members of my family even helping support them walk to the elevator. I could not imagine hosting our wedding anywhere else and cannot recommend it enough! -

This venue is obviously stunning, but you don't realize just how much of a WOW factor it has until your wedding day! We are so incredibly happy we got married here! I am a very indecisive person, and having a blank space for a wedding venue that I had to figure out how to decorate gave me so much anxiety. As soon as my husband and I saw the BMA, we knew it was the one. We had already pretty much made our minds up before we went to visit, but touring solidified our choice. We did simple florals because the venue is already so beautiful in itself. Loved both Antioch Court and Fox Court for the ceremony/reception and cocktail hour. Alicia was a delight to work with as was the rest of the BMA team (shoutout to Kellen for being such a ray of sunshine!!). We are so grateful to the BMA for making our wedding exactly what we envisioned. I also love that the BMA gave a suggested list of vendors. Not only are there amazing vendor recommendations on that list, but it gave me peace of mind knowing that the vendors that we picked understood the BMA's rules (since protecting and preserving the art is obviously their first priority). Could not have been a more perfect day.

Amazing Time at the BMA
We held our wedding at the Baltimore Museum of Art and we were blown away by how professional, dedicated, and attentive the staff were. The house managers made it their duty to make sure the event went smoothly and they were all so kind. We truly appreciate Alicia and her staff and wish we could relive the day all over again! The Baltimore Museum of Art served as the best venue for our wedding reception, encapsulating the essence of our love story and shared passions (one of our first dates was ten years ago at the BMA when we were undergrad students). The BMA’s grandeur and elegance provided a timeless ambiance, accentuating the significance of the occasion. Many of our wedding photographs were surrounded by beautiful paintings and the like–each stroke of art seemed to echo the intricacies of our relationship, reflecting the depth and beauty of our bond. The museum's picturesque setting offered a romantic and enchanting atmosphere; plenty of our family and friends say that this was the most stunning wedding that they have ever attended. Every moment was imbued with a sense of magic, creating cherished memories that will endure a lifetime. We had our 100-guest, creative black tie, February wedding at BMA with ceremony and reception in Fox Court and cocktail hour in Antioch Court. We were very impressed with the booking and planning process with Alicia. The rules were quite restrictive, but it's a museum after all and most rules were discussed up front. We found it important to mostly use vendors who have worked at BMA before and are familiar with the rules. Both rooms were breathtaking on the wedding day! We were impressed with the number of staff BMA provided for our wedding day; all being super friendly and helpful. We can't wait to spend our anniversaries visiting the museum in the future. -

We had an absolutely incredible wedding reception at the BMA.
Right off the bat, our point of contact from the BMA (Alicia Crosby) was very welcoming, readily available, and extremely communicative. She truly set us up for success for our big day, helping set us up with the preferred vendors, and helping answer the many questions we had about the logistics of having a wedding at the museum.
We rented out both Fox Court + Antioch Court (along with the Jacob's wing gallery), and every guest kept highlighting how incredible the venue for the ceremony was. And the venue truly was incredible, from our bridal party photos on the steps out from, to the vibes of the rooms, to the art scattered throughout, to the lighting structure in fox court, everything looked beautiful. A big shoutout to the museum staff, all of whom were very professional and incredibly engaged in the evening.
To anyone considering the BMA as a venue for their event, don't wait and go for it! -

Before we started venue shopping, something a friend mentioned to us was the importance of being able to return to where we got married. That resonated strongly with us and the BMA will forever be that place for us.
From the moment my husband and I saw the photos of long tables in Antioch Court situated perfectly along the marble, we knew there was no reason to search elsewhere for a venue. It was merely a dream and Alicia became a partner and advocate helping guide and navigate our visions to reality as she partnered with our team of vendors. We're grateful for the creation of our perfect wedding story and look forward to returning and reliving the moments for years to come.

One of the most beautiful wedding venues I have seen. The art, the architecture, our wedding was truly a dream come true! We could not have picked a more beautiful or perfect space. With space for an outdoor ceremony, you are able to utilize 3 different spaces for your wedding, all of which are just truly stunning. The Baltimore Museum of Art is stunning. Seriously. We wanted a venue that was unique and beautiful and we got that in spades. Our favorite part was the gorgeous light display in Fox Court. This venue was a no brainer as soon as we viewed it! The space does all the work for you without adding decor and embellishment. On top of that, the staff (Alicia specifically) is so helpful in answering questions, providing options, responding in a timely fashion for all of your wedding day needs. It was especially memorable for our guests because getting married in a Musuem is different and a very unique experience. I would do it all over again in a heart beat. -

Having our wedding at the BMA was a dream. It was the first venue we visited and every one after just didn’t stack up. We opted to have our ceremony inside in addition to the reception simply because the space is so stunning. We got to spend less on florals and décor because the venue spoke for itself. Alicia was a joy to work with, answering every question I had quickly and with immense consideration. I didn’t have a wedding planner so I had many, many questions and she made it all so easy. Even with changing COVID restrictions, Alicia kept us up to date while ensuring the safety of guests. The approved catering list was high-quality while still providing a range of options, which was a huge help in narrowing our search. On the day of, there were two wonderful humans there to help me and keep me calm each step of the way. They even helped us solve a bustle mishap when one of my loops was missing and we had to go locate a safety pin. During our reception a few of the BMA workers got down on the edge of the dance floor with us and it was the highlight of the night for us!!!! I could not imagine our day happening anywhere else and would highly recommend this venue to all. -

Saved us & were wonderful!
Our first venue cancelled on us four months out and the BMA was extremely gracious in fast-tracking a million preparations so we could hold our wedding on the same day as originally planned. For the cost, you get way, way more space than most other comparable indoor venues. The natural lighting is beautiful and there is a natural elegance to the entire space. We also rented out part of Gertrude's Restaurant (on-site but separate) for pre-wedding religious rituals and they were lovely and accommodating as well. We worked with Alicia - she is wonderful. Her staff day-of was kind and lovely. Nothing but positives from us! -

Beautiful Venue
The BMA is such a beautiful venue! After we had to change our original venue, Alicia was super responsive and flexible in helping us reserve dates (and postpone when we needed) so we could figure out how to make our day happen. She answered all of our questions, and was very helpful throughout multiple tours with us, our family, and our planner. The day-of staff (security, workers, coordinators) were lovely as well, and very helpful in helping us navigate the outside of the museum for pictures, and staying on with us as the party extended to midnight. The galleries we had open were beautiful as well, and the venue was flexible in meeting all of our needs! -

Beautiful, classic venue in Baltimore City
Our April 2022 wedding was magical. The space is absolutely beautiful and Alicia (venue coordinator) was so easy to work with. My husband and I had been to a lot of weddings in Baltimore and so were familiar with a lot of the common venues. We wanted to have our wedding in a more unique space, where most of our friends & family had never attended an event previously. We had ~150 guests, which was a perfect size for the space - especially because we had a larger band and wanted a good size dance floor. Cocktail hour was in Antioch Court and the ceremony & reception were in Fox Court. As a heads up to other couples -- the venue booking does not come with anything (eg, tables, chairs) so those will need to be rented from an outside vendor. Our out-of-town guests stayed in the Harbor East hotels so they could get to see another part of Baltimore but still have a relatively quick drive to the BMA (we offered shuttle transportation).
We cannot recommend the BMA enough to anyone looking for a classic, beautiful Baltimore venue! -

When our first venue closed due to the pandemic, it was an extraordinary gift of fate that we would up at the Baltimore Museum of Art. From the gorgeous Moondust sculpture hanging above, to the works of art in the surrounding galleries, to the awe-inspiring steps leading up to our entryway, every piece of our vow renewal was magical. Alicia Crosby, Director of Events, was exceptionally responsive and all of her staff was courteous and helpful. I don't believe there is any more beautiful venue. A Fabulous Team that Made Our Dream Wedding a Reality
Alicia and her team were absolutely fabulous!! They helped us plan and execute the wedding of our dreams during a really challenging time for events. From the first time we spoke with Alicia, she was a pleasure to work with - she’s fun and knows exactly what she’s doing, making what could sometimes be an overwhelming process smooth and organized. We started our wedding planning process in December of 2018 for an April 2020 wedding - we all know that 2020 date did not work out. When we were first navigating the uncertainty around our original event date due to the pandemic, Alicia was extremely responsive, flexible, and understanding (which was great, as we were planning from San Francisco; she did a remote walkthrough with us and everything). In the months leading up to our rescheduled date in late July 2021, Alicia kept us in the loop, and effectively managed rapidly changing Covid protocols to ensure her guests were safe while being thoughtful about what we wanted for our wedding. We didn’t have a wedding planner or day-of coordinator (which was a lot of fun, but also A LOT of work), so we absolutely couldn’t have done it without Alicia, her team, and the Zeffert and Gold team (our fantastic caterers) - especially given a lot of logistics related to flipping the Fox Court for the ceremony and reception. On the day-of, Alicia and her team seamlessly managed our (pretty tight) timeline, while working with a band that hadn’t previously performed at the BMA. Throughout the night, the BMA team was effective, helpful, and most importantly, FUN! Our wedding day as perfect, and we couldn’t have done it without the fabulous Alicia and her team. -

We are so glad that we had our wedding at the BMA. Our cocktail hour was in Antioch Court, and reception was (literally) under the stars of Fox Court. We also had our wedding photos taken in the Sculpture Garden. Not only was the entire day, start to finish, more perfect and beautiful than we could have imagined, but everyone involved was so incredibly accomodating and went above and beyond in every possible way. The venue was also so. much. fun. People can't stop talking about it, and we will never forget it! -

We absolutely loved our experience with the museum. They are responsive , flexible and extremely supportive! Alicia, the director was a delight!
The museum space is magical, elegant and so memorable! From the very start they try to make the entire experience as pleasant and as easy as they can possibly make it. The staff is professional and extremely supportive. There vendor list is wide and broad . They also allow you to select your own vendors, if desired, as long as they are approved by the museum. Alicia, the director was extremely pleasant and easy to work with. She is also very supportive and a great communicator. She provides you with options when she can. My daughter’s wedding was originally scheduled for April of 2020 but because of the Pandemic it was cancelled less than 3 weeks before the event. Alicia was extremely helpful to book us a replacement date as close to the original date but the dates kept on being postponed until we finally had our beautiful event in August of 2021. Words can not describe our gratitude and appreciation to Alicia and her staff for their support and professionalism and helping make our event extremely memorable. We highly recommend this venue for your next event. -

Classic Venue for Romance
My husband and I looked at severance weddings in Maryland and D.C. for our wedding because of our Maryland roots. When we walked into the Baltimore Museum of Art, we fell in love and it was the first time we could really imagine having a wedding. The museum is stunning and impressed all of our guests. What's more fun is that the museum has various modern installations that bring something new and fresh to your photos. My photographer had an amazing time at the museum because there were so many great spots for photo sessions.
I also have to give Alicia, the venue coordinator, a lot of credit for running a pretty tight ship. You don't realize it, but she really does have a full team available on the day of your wedding to make sure everything runs smoothly. My wedding coordinator was able to rely on her staff to help with everything from the ceremony to ushering the wedding party from the waiting room to the reception. They were truly fabulous and professional.
The museum is on the higher end of the price range, but you get three different locations--lawn, Antioch Court and Fox Court. This is a big benefit for couples who want to host both the ceremony and reception in the same venue. -

A perfect venue for wedding ceremony and reception
We fall in love with BMA with only one glimpse even though it was our first time to visit our future wedding venue. We knew that we made a right decision even before the big day, BMA has a great team, the natural setting is amazing, all the guests love the place. My wife and I really appreciate everything BMA did for us, it already became our best memory. -

The BMA was the PERFECT venue for our May 2019 wedding. We lucked out with good weather so the ceremony was in the West Lawn, and the reception was in Fox Hall with the beautiful Moon Dust exhibit. We had about 140 guests, which was a great number for the space. Director of Events, Alicia, was fantastic throughout the whole process. She was responsive, flexible, funny, and incredibly helpful! Her team member Courtney, who supervised the actual wedding day, was also wonderful and made sure things flowed smoothly. The space itself is already so beautiful, so as someone who wasn't that into wedding planning, I loved that I didn't have to worry much about decorations beyond flowers & candles :) The museum also has so many beautiful spots for photo opportunities- we got some of the coolest photos I've honestly ever seen! Our guests were all so impressed with the venue & everything else about the day. I HIGHLY recommend The Baltimore Museum of Art for your wedding! -

We had both the ceremony and the reception in the venue and the transformation between the two was seamless. Our guests were entertained during cocktail hour and they got to view parts of the museum while we took our photos. The venue is absolutely beautiful and the decorations only enhanced what was already there. We loved the ability to be creative within the museum and it turned out amazing!

Ilina Sent on 09/26/2017The BMA was the absolutely perfect venue! It was the only venue we ever looked at and we instantly knew it was the right choice for our wedding! We rented the Antioch Court and Fox Hall for the cocktail hour and the reception and had the ceremony outside at the West Lawn. We did our first look on the stairs and the pictures came back AMAZING. We were also able to take advantage of the sculpture garden for pictures which was incredible. Everything was simply PERFECT! Our guests were impressed and couldn't stop talking about how amazing, unique and classy our venue was.
Alicia was a joy to work with. She was always responsive, professional, and friendly throughout the process and absolutely critical as a day-of coordinator. We didn't have a wedding coordinator so Alicia was tremendously helpful for the ceremony. If you are looking for a classy and drop-dead gorgeous venue in Baltimore, look no further than the BMA. Our wedding was truly magical!!!

This venue is breathtaking! I had a lot of people mention how fun it was to look at art during cocktail hour especially.
We had an outdoor ceremony in the west lawn. The lawn is beautiful and requires little or no added flowers or decor.
They have recommended floor plans for you and are very responsive. They are as flexible as they can while having to adhere to museum rules. These didn’t impact any of our plans though!
The staff at BMA are what really blew me away! They are so kind and energetic for your big day. We had really nice people helping us all afternoon leading us through the back halls of the museum, helping vendors when they arrived, etc. the staff even started a conga line during our dancing and really amped up the party and fun factor! I can’t recommend them enough!!! -

The BMA is a perfect wedding venue: naturally gorgeous (with little need to spend big with decor), several offerings (galleries open, how you arrange the space, etc.), and seamless execution and management with vendors. We had a wedding of ~135 people and it went off without a hitch. The BMA and its Events team are so highly organized that it eased the burden on us and our planner leading up to and on the day. While the BMA has several reasonable limitations (like open flames or making a mess on their steps - you gotta protect the art, people!) it wasn't overly limiting to our options and nothing compared to the grandeur and elegance you get for your wedding. Lastly, we had a queer wedding and asked the BMA about their inclusiveness trainings/policies and experience with other queer weddings. Everyone felt welcome, safe, and that the staff were friendly and helpful. -

I cannot recommend this venue enough! Everything was stunning, we were able to have minimal decorations since the venue itself is so beautiful. The museum employees were extremely helpful and professional. Definitely make sure to read through the contract thoroughly because there are a lot of restrictions! All of the restrictions were very clearly outlined and shared with us before we made a commitment, and they were all reasonable, so it did not in any way detract from our experience. -

The BMA is personally meaningful to both of us (we grew up nearby and have visited hundreds of times, and had one of our first dates there!). The historic entrance, Fox Court, and Antioch Court are all insanely beautiful. Alicia Crosby was very responsive, organized, and helpful, and the day-of team was also amazing. Kellen in particular was the best! He made us laugh until the moment we walked down the aisle.
One thing to keep in mind about the BMA is they do have many restrictions that other venues do not, due to the valuable and one of a kind art and the building itself. No branches or greenery other than flowers, no throwing anything post-ceremony, no lifting chairs, candles must be safely in hurricane glass, and every vendor needs their own insurance. These things are all communicated in the contract though. The space is so beautiful on its own that you don't need much else! We had simple place settings, flowers, candles, and some party lighting, and that was all we needed. It was gorgeous! -

Amazing, elegant venue
The Baltimore Museum of Art was the perfect venue for our wedding. Every space is beautiful and elegant, and guests loved looking through the art on display during cocktail hour and the reception. Alicia and her team were highly organized leading up to the wedding and answered all of our many questions! We heard so many positive comments from guests about the venue, and we'd highly recommend it to other couples! -

Exceptional experience
From the initial planning to the day of the wedding Alicia and the BMA staff were supportive. There was a few times I felt like I was being disrespected (joked on about coat check, for instance) but I can accept that it might have been a misunderstanding. One moment that pleased me was during Rehearsal we started to run behind so the BMA staff graciously extended the time frame for rehearsal when they did not have to. Also, Tracy M. on the BMA STAFF helped me lace up my dress. She is now my “auntie”. Above and beyond… that was the theme BMA staff held themselves to.
I wish I could do the wedding day over because it was SO beautiful.

Picture Perfect Wedding at the BMA
We selected the Baltimore Museum of Art as our wedding venue due to a variety of reasons. Namely the gorgeous space for the ceremony and reception as well as the cocktail hour. The architecture of both the interior and exterior lends itself to a refined, aesthetic, artistic, and beautiful wedding.
We did have the option for an outdoor ceremony but unforeseen circumstances caused us to switch last minute. The BMA staff had contingency plans that we went over so the switch went off without a hitch.
Alicia, our contact was speedy with communication and our interactions were purposeful and timely.
Since the BMA is an active art museum, if I was to find one downside is that there are limits in terms of the hours, entrances, and certain other rules that must be followed. However this was totally understandable.
One thing that my wife and I opted for was to keep some of the galleries opened during the reception. This was a fantastic success with guests able to peruse the paintings, sculptures, and photographs to take a break from the partying. Highly recommended!
Our wedding was around 150 and that is very truly the limit of the space. Cocktail hour got a bit cozy, but once it moved into the reception, the tall ceilings and columns gave us more space to dance around and party.
They do have preferred vendors, but I definitely recommend you get a planner as the BMA is just a venue and will require all rentals and extra pieces to have a full wedding.
Overall the Baltimore Museum of Art is the perfect venue if you want an unforgettable backdrop for your wedding and I could not have imagined a better place to celebrate a Baltimore spirited and stunning marriage. -

A Gorgeous Venue (with some limitations)
Let me start by saying the BMA was not my original venue (for some reason we didn’t initially tour it when we were first looking around Baltimore, it probably wasn’t advertised as holding enough people–180+). We had booked the Peabody Library for our 5/30/20 wedding, but it shut down and, after 2 years of rescheduling every 6 months or so (kept hoping they’d be open “by then”...), we finally gave up on them and pivoted to the BMA, which, just a few minutes away, was actually allowing events to take place again. There were a lot of similarities between the Peabody and the BMA in terms of “strictness” and “rules,” which is not surprising as they are both “open to public” sort of spaces. In terms of aesthetics, it’s also not surprising that I was not the only one to pivot from the Peabody to the BMA (when we were touring it, we were told we were the 5th couple to jump ship and switch to them); in its own unique way, it’s similarly a very stunning, grand space (and indoors, and in approximately the same-ish area of Baltimore).
We were very grateful to the BMA for taking us on “last minute” (5 months out in wedding world). Unfortunately, it was rainy the day of our tour, so we never saw the outdoor spaces, but we intended to have the wedding inside so it didn’t matter too much. We LOVED the stunning light installation (turns out it’s temporary, so we’re thankful we were there when it was there!) and it photographs BEAUTIFULLY (I now know this as we’ve already gotten photos back from our photographer).
That being said, there are definitely some drawbacks to the space, despite how gorgeous it is:
If you have a wedding of over ~120 people and need a dance floor space, you will need to seat people at narrower rectangular tables between the walls and columns, and it’s definitely a snug fit (we did it, but it’s tight). So you can’t do all round tables, if that’s important to you.
Also, unless you’re willing to pay for the extra gallery spaces, pretty much all the galleries that split off of the reception area are off-limits during the event, which is kind of a bummer (not that I would’ve wanted them pulling people away from the dance floor, but it would’ve been nice for photo-taking purposes). There are 2 galleries that are open and available because they have to be for elevator access purposes, so those are the galleries that guests are able to peruse and that just the couple is able to take photos in (no video). I just wish they had let us take photos in the other rooms adjacent to our reception space…I feel like it’s not a huge ask but rules are rules and they were gated off.
Keep in mind that, because the space is open to the public, they are very strict about when you can arrive to start taking photos. And the majority of your photos will be OUTSIDE. So you have to pray for good weather! Otherwise, only the bride and groom are allowed to take photos inside, and only after a certain specific time once most of the vendors are out of the way/done loading in. For context, we had a 6pm wedding, so we arrived around 3:30 with our full wedding party to start taking outdoor photos. I think around 5pm or so, we had finished wedding party photos outside, so the wedding party hung out in the conference room while my husband and I went inside to take a few gallery photos before we had to “hide away” as guests would begin arriving. They also seemed very strict about not letting guests in early (this may have simply been because all the vendors were in a time crunch setting up still), so we definitely discouraged guests from arriving overly early, as we didn’t want people stuck waiting outside.
The space being open to the public until a certain time also really impacted vendors, as it does not give everyone a lot of time to set up. Alicia sent a detailed email to each vendor and assigned everyone specific load-in times to try to coordinate the chaos. And luckily, from my end, it all appeared to have gone smoothly and things were set up in time! They are all pros and used to this kind of logistical situation, but just note it’s one small loading dock so everyone has to play nice and cooperate with each other for the limited space.
Speaking of vendors…because this is a museum, they do not have an official “kitchen,” which makes things a lot more complicated for caterers. We used the same caterer we were contracted to use at the Peabody (Classic Catering), and we ended up having to pay a significant upcharge when revising our contract for the BMA because the logistics of the space and the tight timing to set up before the event AND to flip the room from ceremony to reception, meant they’d need additional staff etc etc. (This was mostly because we were using the same space for ceremony/reception–if we had used the outdoor space and a room flip wasn’t involved, I don’t think this would’ve applied, or at least it wouldn’t have been so steep.) We loved working with Classic and understood the situation so we went along with it out of necessity, but just mentioning that here because it was a significant added cost upon switching venues.
Also, note that there is a coat room, but it’s unattended. So last minute we ended up hiring someone to manage the coat room (BMA does not provide that specific staff person), since it was below 60 degrees in early April. We also last minute hired our own private security guards (the BMA did have several staff members and their own security on site, but we were told in advance that they are not armed guards–so they did allow us to hire our own just for peace of mind).
The cocktail hour space was gorgeous surrounding the courtyard; the natural light was really lovely and made all the stone work look so stunning in our photos. That being said, the one downside to the “hollowed out square shape” of that space was that I did not hear the string quartet we had hired at all during cocktail hour–they must’ve been in the farthest opposite corner than where me and my husband entered the space, and it was just too far for the sound to travel. On a similar note, this also separated the cocktail space pretty significantly visually, making it difficult to see as many guests during cocktails as I would’ve hoped, because you could only really see the people on the same “side” of the square as you. (This could also probably be viewed as a good thing depending on your perspective…) It just wasn’t as easy to get a “lay of the land” as it would’ve been to have cocktail hour in one large/undivided open space. But of course, the space is gorgeous and unique so…you win some you lose some!
One thing that caused a lot of confusion in the weeks leading up to wedding day–it had not been made clear earlier on (like during our tour, which would’ve been nice) that there IS a “getting ready” space for the wedding party to gather in before walking down the aisle. This is not for hair/makeup or anything like that, but basically just a conference room near the staff entrance where we were able to store our belongings while we were taking photos outside, to use the bathroom, hang out in when we weren’t needed for outdoor photos (because it was chilly out), line up for our processional, bustling after ceremony, etc. I would’ve appreciated being told this earlier (I also should’ve asked, but figured we would’ve already been told if such a room existed!), as it would’ve saved many stressful conversations with our planner trying to figure out where to go for bustling and whatnot (legit thought we’d have to be in a bathroom or coat room).
Anyway, despite these nitpicky things, overall it really was a pleasant experience working with the BMA and the day of, the staff was very nice and helpful. Alicia was responsive to email and sent photos of the outdoor spaces that we didn’t get to see on our initial tour. They do arrange a “walk-through” for you about a month or so before your event, so it’s good to return to the space and ask any last minute questions that may have come up as final details/timelines are getting worked out. Definitely recommend bringing your planner/catering manager/etc so everyone is on the same page! Also, as a very nice and classy touch, a few weeks after our wedding, they sent a thank you note and gifted us with a one-year membership to the museum–a very sweet gesture which we appreciated. I definitely would still recommend this venue to anyone looking for a stunning space in Baltimore; the place is strict and has its limitations and drawbacks, but nothing so bad it would make me change my mind about having my event there. It’s a gorgeous space both inside and out that photographed beautifully, and we’ll cherish our memories from our special day at the BMA!

Our daughter and son-in-law held their wedding and reception at the BMA in early September. The venue is spectacular and having the ceremony and reception in the same location was convenient for guests who traveled as we provided coaches. Fox Court provided a magical backdrop for both the ceremony and dinner reception. Antioch Court was spacious and a good flow for the cocktail reception. This location made it possible for Fox Court to be transformed from ceremony to dinner and dancing. The recommended caterer, Linwood’s was outstanding and highly recommended. They did purchase the gallery’s and was a good option for guests who wanted to wander and browse the magnificent art. The director was helpful but sometimes hard to get immediate answers as the planning was during the height of Covid and rules kept changing. Lovely wedding at a very special venue and many guests commented it was one of the best wedding celebrations they have attended. -
