Choosing The Baker’s Box for our wedding cake was one of the best decisions we made! Everything about the experience was first rate (the tasting, the communication, the delivery and, of course, the cake itself). Mara is one of the kindest humans you will ever meet, and her cakes taste like heaven on Earth. We chose chocolate with buttercream frosting, and she adorned it with some of our flowers. It was simple yet extraordinary. Our guests couldn’t stop talking about it!

The best cake & cupcakes in town
I have been asked by everyone where we got my daughter's wedding cake & cupcakes. We ordered 4 different flavors and the cake was red velvet, all were moist and delicious... I am so thankful that they were available for their wedding date. We did cake tasting at several places, but none compared to The Baker's Box

Awsome experience at a great value
My wife and I looked into several cake bakeries, but in the end, we chose Mara. Simply put, she was awesome, everything about the cake was awesome, and the value that you get is undeniable. She even argued with our venue to move the cake table to ensure the safely of our cake. Don't let her busy restaurant scare you. When it's "your" day, nothing else matters to her.

The BEST Wedding Cake!
Wow, we are so so happy we chose The Bakers Box for our Wedding Day cake!! They were recommended by our venue (Rumbling Bald) and it was the most delicious cake I've ever had anywhere. We went with the lemon raspberry cake with buttercream frosting. Us and our guests were blown away. I would travel to NC for a slice of that any day. Mara was super easy to work with, very responsive and helpful in making our wedding day cake vision come to life. She's truly talented - I highly recommend!

Mara offered the MOST exceptional service throughout the entire wedding cake experience. From the cake testing, where she went above and beyond for my husband, our parents, and myself to experience all her cakes and decorations. To working with her on prices and size. She dropped off the cake the day of the wedding and decorated it to perfection. So many of our guests have complimented how delicious it was. Great place and tasty cakes
We found the baker box store by accident when looking for someone to do Wedding cakes. We weren't having much luck and then I got hungry and we happened upon the Baker box restaurant. We stopped in for a bite and the place was cute and cool and right up our alley with the Harry Potter and Star wars lego sets hanging from the ceiling. And we food we got there was so tasty! It was a really cool place. I tried their bakery items and was blown away with the flavor. I learned they made wedding cakes and so we chose them to get our wedding cake from. It was such a pretty cake and so delicious! Not to mention she was willing to deliver the cake at least 30mins or more to the venue.

The pastry chef created a cake that was exactly what we had envisioned, and it was absolutely amazing!!! We had so many guests that said that they don't usually like wedding cake but loved this one. I have so many good things to say about Mara at The Baker’s Box! She was so nice and helpful and the cake the made for our wedding was the most delicious cake I’ve ever eaten. We received so many compliments from our wedding guests, even those who weren’t big cake fans loved our cake. Not only was our cake delicious but it was also the most beautiful cake ever. When it comes to wedding cakes, and really anything else, the Baker's Box was the perfect choice! Mara was so sweet and incredible to work with. She truly is an artist and I couldn't have dreamed of a more beautiful Wedding Cake! First off, her cake flavors and icing were delicious! She prepared 3 mini cakes of our choosing, all delicious so it was really hard to choose, and provided coffee and water with our cake tasting. I went with her most popular, and I can see why, the sour cream cake, with Bailey's Irish Cream filling, and Italian Cream Icing. People at my wedding couldn't get enough of it. It was so delicious, not to mention absolutely gorgeous! She worked hand in hand with my Florist Pam, at the Flower Market, who prepared the most beautiful flower arrangements, and provided the perfect rustic wooden cake stand that went perfectly with our wedding decor. I really lucked out with finding her and she made the perfect, simplistic Wedding Cake to go with our Rustic Fall Wedding theme at BurntShirt Vineyards.

I highly recommend The Baker's Box and Mara Nicholas for your wedding cakes! Mara is an amazing creator of beautiful cakes that actually taste delicious, and not too overly sweet. She has so many flavors to choose from, and a wonderful book of past cakes she has made to give you ideas for your own design. Also important to us, she made gluten-free cupcakes to have in addition to the wedding cake for those guests with gluten sensitivities or allergies. We had the basic idea of what we wanted the cake to look like, and our florist provided gorgeous blooms and greenery that Mara creatively used to make our dream come true. It was an extreme pleasure to work with Mara at The Baker's Box, and I recommend them highly!

We had our wedding way out. . .down a steep him near a creek. That didn't stop Mara. She create an absolutely beautiful cake--truly spectacular and keeping with the spirit of the wedding. It was delicious as well. Prior to the wedding, Mara spent time with us and guided us in our decisions, all while listening closely to what we wanted so she could create the perfect cake (and cupcakes!). She was even nice to our wedding dog, who wanted to snatch the cake from her hands. All in all, a wonderful experience. You won't be disappointed!

I LOVED working with The Baker's Box. They were absolutely fantastic! I planned my wedding long distance and -- because I never knew when I would be in town -- when I reached out about doing a tasting, they were super friendly and accommodating. Needless to say, we went with them for our cake: three tiers, chocolate with strawberry cream cheese (and fresh strawberries) and buttercream AND vanilla, strawberry, and lemon cupcakes. The cake was the most delicious thing we have ever eaten. Even my chef brother was asking me about our cake to recommend to people in Memphis, TN!

We ordered our grooms cake, wedding cake, and dessert bar for 100 people from her shop and everyone raved about the beautiful look and incredible taste of everything! The chocolate mocha grooms cake done turtle style with caramel was incredible and I typically do not enjoy chocolate cake. Our wedding cake was stunning. We ordered the Apple spice cake filled with caramel cream cheese icing and it was the best cake I’ve ever had. Every single pastry for the dessert bar was delectable. We plan on driving the few hours each year to order a small anniversary cake from The Baker’s Box every year. I definitely recommend them!

The cake tasted wonderful! We got compliments from everyone on how great it tasted. Her husband George also did the catering for our wedding and the food was absolutely delicious! This was love at first taste! My husband and I were from out of town and Mara was able to work with our schedule to set up a cake tasting. Little did we know, these weren't tiny bites, she baked a few mini cakes of our choosing! They were all delicious and she provided great advise concerning size, price, and design. We decided on the Strawberry Marble Pound Cake with White Chocolate filling/icing.
At the wedding, the cake was a hit. Mara and her team beautifully decorated the cake with flowers my florist provided and it was just as tasty as I remembered! Everyone loved the cake and there was literally not a bite left!
I would highly recommend to anyone!

The cake on my big day was absolutely delicious and gorgeous!!
Mara's prices were the best I could find in my area.
We went with the apple cake after our complimentary cake testing of 3 different flavors-- she also sent us home with the remainder of the cakes!
I wish I could post a picture of the result on here-- it was beautiful and my guests couldn't stop talking about the flavor!!

So thankful I found the Baker's Box on Wedding Wire! Mara was such a pleasure to work with and the price is very, very reasonable! Mara and her crew made our wedding cake, groom's cake, and an assortment of desserts as party favors for our big day. The outcome was just what we envisioned!! The cakes not only looked AMAZING but they also tasted AMAZING too!! I don't know how she does it, but her buttercream icing is the best I've ever tasted! We received so many compliments throughout the night on our cakes and dessert table. The chocolate/caramel brownies, the assortments of cookies, and coconut macaroons were such a big hit with our guests! Mara and her family owned bakery is the best in the area! Mara is an angel. She's straightforward and not afraid to tell you when an idea isn't the best, but is also really nice and works hard to make sure you get what you want. We had an unusual request for a cheese tower and Mara went well out of her way to get us the best price without compromising what we wanted. Our cakes and desserts were spread beautifully and she took care of everything for us. She even honoured my request to stop by the bridal suite after she finished setting up, which I loved.
Oh and last but definitely not least, everything tasted amazing! My maid of honour never sugarcoats any of her opinions, but even she said she was blown away by Mara's cheesecake :) She also had a lot of gluten/dairy-free options for our guests with dietary restrictions. The leftover cake held up nicely after the wedding so we were well-fed for a long time, too.

Mara made a 4 tiered cake for our May 2015 wedding that served our 145 guests. Her list of flavors were great and prior to our cake tasting we asked her to recommend a flavor to us in addition to the ones we were interested in. We ended up falling in love with an apple spice cake with caramel cream cheese icing and so did our guests. We received so many compliments about all of the cake flavors.
The cake tasting she prepared for us was one of the highlights of our wedding planning process. We almost skipped this step due to scheduling issues, but are so glad we made it work and were able to meet with her and stuff ourselves with cake for lunch. We also looked through her portfolio of wedding cake designs and adapted an idea we had in our mind with something we saw her do for another client. The cake she created was simple, elegant and just what we wanted for our wedding. She worked together with our florist and venue and the entire process was very smooth. We had the Apple Spice cake with the Caramel Cream Cheese filling and the Chocolate cake with the Bailey's Cream Cheese Filling. All of our guests were raving about the flavors and how moist the cakes were, and they had no idea they were gluten-free! She did a fabulous job on the buttercream frosting design and her arrangement of the flowers as the cake topper were beautiful.

Mara made our wedding cake which was absolutely delicious. My favorite part was going for the tasting and letting our mothers taste the leftovers we were able to bring home. Everyone at the wedding loved the cake and I can't wait to eat our top tier on our anniversary. I wanted a pretty simple cake but she made it beautiful. Thanks to the heat of the summer it started to tilt a little before the reception so we decided to cut the cake a little early so it didn't topple over. We were flexible so this was not a big deal to us at all. All that mattered was that everyone enjoyed it!

Mara made a 2 tiered cake, cupcakes and a grooms cake for my daughter's wedding at Rumbling Bald Resort in Lake Lure, NC. The wedding cake was delicious, sour cream cake with raspberry filling. We had chocolate and lemon cupcakes and the grooms cake was chocolate with peanut butter filling which I was lucky enough to bring home some leftovers and it was delicious! It was a destination wedding and we were unable to have a taste test so Mara helped with the flavor choices and everything was perfect.

Do yourself a favor: book Mara! She is amazing!!! We ordered a three tiered pound cake with Bailey's filling and vanilla icing. Everyone loved our cake! We also ordered Mara's fudge brownie/cheesecake squares, chocolate cookies, and her wedding cookies! All were excellent! Our guests were raving about those cheesecake brownies.
Mara was always so flexible. When we met for cake testing, she provided us with large portions of samples, lots to take home! She is very down to earth and genuinely a pro at what she does.
I highly recommend her and plan to definitely request her services in the future.

We loved, loved, loved Mara’s cake! She made a Sour Cream Pound Cake (lighter than it sounds) with Italian Buttercream icing...moist, buttery, and not too sweet. If we hadn’t actively saved some for our one year anniversary, our family would have eaten it all! Mara was great to work with. Her guidance on the cake flavor was great. She arrived on time and decorated the cake with the flowers and our toppers beautifully. She takes her craft very seriously, but she also has a sense of humor.

Mara made a beautiful and delicious wedding cake for our outdoor mountain wedding! I only asked for a simple 3 tiered white wedding cake with my grandparent's cake topper and flowers from the florist and the outcome was a beautiful and elegant cake that our guests LOVED! I trusted Mara to be creative with the florist's picks and I am very happy with her work. We had an amaretto flavored cake with white chocolate filling enough to feed 100 people. The Baker's Box owner, Mara Nicholas, was so very helpful with suggestions trying to accommodate the groom's request for his dog, Franklin, to be part of the groom's chocolate cake. Her suggestion of a replica of Franklin on the top of the cake was superb! Also, the added doggie "treats" (which were edible) presented an adorable, delectable added temptation! When we arrived to our tasting, Mara was in her chef's coat with 3, small, freshly baked cakes! The Apple Spice cake was phenomenal. Not only were her cakes delicious, but the intricate detail and flawless designs were stunning. I would HIGHLY recommend The Baker's Box for any events in and around Asheville.

Mara is amazing! Not only is she extremely responsive with her communication, but her products are the best I have ever had! And that's saying a lot because my Gandmother made an awesome pound cake. For a last minute, unplanned tasting she whipped up two mini cakes with icing in about 20 minutes. Blew my socks off pound cake and then the apple spice cake was so good my yoga master no sugar eating friend had two pieces! Signed her up on the spot! We asked her to make red velvet cupcakes for the rehearsal dinner since my husband wanted a white cake for the wedding. OMG, these cupcakes melted in your mouth, they were so incredibly moist! She sprinkled the cream cheese icing with coconut flakes and made charming chocolate hearts to stick out of the icing on top! Not only did they taste amazingly, they were beautiful and romantic. We had some last minute time conflicts so we had to ask Mara to deliver the cupcakes that I was supposed to pick up. Not a problem, my wedding planner had them right on time!
You will not be disappointed with her service or her product! I plan to use her for all my baking needs at every local event we host!

Mara Is calm and collected and gets the job done with a minimum of fuss. She lent us platters for our very delicious desserts and wedding cake and came back the next morning to pick them up. I consider this beyond the call! She made us a DELICIOUS groom's cake: chocolate and gluten free. He loved it. The wedding cake had substance, which so many don't... real flavor and texture- a hint of strawberry in the cake... and it was lovely. I considered this vendor absolutely a great value.

Mara at the Baker's Box did a fantastic job for my daughter's wedding. She baked delicious and beautiful cupcakes and cake topper. They not only were pretty but very tasty and moist and delicious. She was prompt on the day of the wedding in setting up and preparing the cupcake table. I would recommend her for anyone in search of this type service for their wedding.

Mara and the Baker's Box created an absolutely wonderful cake for my wedding. Numerous guests and family members have told me that it was the most delicious wedding cake they had ever eaten, and I could not agree more. The double fudge cake was moist and delicious, and paired wonderfully with the Bailey's Irish Cream & Cream Cheese filing. Mara also took car of arranging the flowers on my cake and the result could not have been more beautiful. Additionally, Mara was very prompt and professional. I cannot recommend her services enough!

Mara was amazing to work with! She was flexible, reasonably priced, and worked with me to come up with exactly what I wanted.
Instead of the traditional cake, we had a dessert bar. We served peach pie bars, a small lemon cake with buttercream icing (used for our cake cutting), macaroons, brownies, strawberry shortcake shooters, and chocolate fudge cupcakes and red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing. Everything was phenomenal!! The cakes were all moist and full of flavor. The brownies melted in your mouth. The shooters and macaroons were the first things to disappear.
I planned my entire destination wedding in six months. Having reliable, responsive, and flexible vendors was extremely important. From the moment I met with Mara for a tasting, I knew that she would be perfect. She was very helpful and quick to provide feedback as we emailed back and forth discussing my options and pricing. The day of our wedding, I hardly knew Mara was there. She showed up, set everything up beautifully, and was gone. I got so many compliments on how great everything looked and how great it all tasted! I would use Mara again in a heartbeat and would recommend her to anyone in the Arden/Asheville/Hendersonville, NC area for any occasion needing sweet treats!

My husband and I ordered the Spiced Apple Cake with Carmel Creme Filling. It was the best cake we have ever eaten. The outside was gorgeous with the way she incorporated our cake topper and fresh flowers. I will certainly use the Bakers Box for other events! :)

We used the Baker's Box for both our rehearsal dinner and wedding and I could not be happier! Everyone was raving about how great the cake was! We didn't get to taste a whole piece of the cake until the next day, but it was just as good if not better than the cake we had during the tasting. We did chocolate fudge cake with bailey's cream cheese filling and buttercream white frosting. It was so, so great! For the rehearsal dinner we also ordered some pies and they were delicious as well. Mara was super flexible with us since she lives down in Hendersonville for delivering the pies and meeting us for the tasting. Two thumbs up!

Mara provided our wedding cake and pie bar. Everything was delicious! Our cake tiers were sour cream pound cake with chocolate ganache filling, chocolate cake with Bailey's cream cheese filling, and chocolate cake with caramel filling. My husband and I enjoyed every bite of the leftovers the next day. The pies were just as tasty. My dad said it was the best coconut cream pie he had ever had (and he has tried a lot). Mara was easy to work with and the results were great.

If you are looking for a cake with a simple design but want it to taste fantastic, she's your girl! We planned a small wedding in a very short amount of time (3 weeks) and Mara was extremely helpful and professional. I traveled for business the entire week before the wedding and never worried once that everything would come together. The Baker's Box was wonderful! I contacted her in the middle of a snow and ice storm one week before the elopement and she was able to create a beautiful wedding cake, deliver and set it up! What a great customer service experience!
