    Makeup Review

Tamara did my makeup for our destination wedding in Jamaica as well as 9 of my bridesmaids makeup. She was absolutely amazing. My husband is all about the natural look where makeup is not all caked on and Tamara did just that. My husband and I were so impressed with how good of a job she did. Not to mention my bridesmaids all looked beautiful too! She also did a trial for me the day of my rehearsal dinner and it came out great. She is also just the sweetest! I highly recommend Tamara and hope to cross paths with her in Jamaica again someday!

    A sweat-proof, stunning look

If you are needing makeup for any humid or hot climate, Tamara is your girl! I felt as though I was melting in our photos in the heat of the day but my gorgeous makeup look did not budge. Looks like second skin, feels light and lasted through our wild reception dance party. She also took my Inspo photos I sent her and totally got the look I was going for. Would highly recommend!

    Exceptional service!

Tamara's makeup service was truly exceptional. She is very knowledgeable about skin care and willingly shared useful skin care tips leading up to my wedding day, as well as provided a full skin prep regimen prior to the application of my makeup, which ensured that my skin was just radiant on my wedding day!

Tamara is friendly, knowledgeable, talented and easy to work with. Her periodic check-ins before and even after my wedding day is a testament to her wonderful customer service. Tamara went above and beyond and had my best interest at heart. Her service exceeded my expectations and my bridesmaids also appreciated her work. I recommend her to anyone looking for a makeup artist that will give that natural yet enhanced look, and will make you feel comfortable, while offering professional makeup services.

The most beautiful version of yourself!

From Day 1, Tamara was so easy to work with ... she provided advice on everything from planning to photography. My wedding photographer was actually based on Tamara's suggestion. On wedding day, even though it was the first time meeting Tamara in person, I felt as if I knew her ... and my best friend / Maid of Honor and I, both found Tamara so easy and fun to work with. We both ended up not feeling 'made up' but naturally beautiful ... as Tamara was able to highlight our best assets! Would definitely recommend Tamara for anyone hoping to look natural, yet gorgeous ... particularly destination brides!

I reached out to Tamara because I wanted a makeup artiste who could assist me with two photoshoots I was doing as a part of rebranding my business. I scoured Instagram and, ultimately, chose Tamara because she made all her clients look naturally beautiful. I am a big believer in "less is more," and I dont wear makeup on a regular basis. I wanted to look polished but almost identical to how I look when people see me without makeup (because I will not be wearing any to client meetings).

It was also important to me to hire someone who fundamentally believed in the beauty of "barely there" makeup vs. asking a regular makeup artiste to give me "a natural look". But I got so much more than "a natural look".

    I appreciated that Tamara:
    1. Communicated with me well and generously leading up to the shoots so she and I could be prepared
    2. Tailored my makeup to each of the four outfits I did during my first shoot - she didn't slack off on any of the outfit changes
    3. Realized where I was struggling in non-makeup areas during shoots and pitched in (I had a problem with my nails, and she painted them!!! and she helped me iron a piece of clothing. I was FLOORED because she did NOT have to help me do these things)
    4. Was pleasant and eager to help me have an excellent final product; I felt like she was really invested
    5. Paid attention to detail - if something was crushed or lean she would point it out to the photographer and fix it

I have shown three close friends my pictures (because I am concealing all for a reveal later this year), and they have loved my looks, with my bff commenting on how seamlessly my foundation goes with my skin.

If you are fortunate enough to find Tamara at a time when she is free, HIRE HER. You're going to get so much more than what you pay for. And this is coming from an exacting woman who does not play with her work.

Sharing a cropped sample below because I cant share all my shots yet.

Get ready to look even more beautiful and amazing than you could have ever imagined. This make up artist will have you loving yourself even more of then you thought you would. I sent camera pictures of the looks that I liked as well as pictures of myself and she crafted in her mind what I would look like for my wedding. My face turned out absolutely beautiful. Everyone was so amazed at how well she did the make up. It was not cakey or over done. It was just right. Thank you so much Tamra for making my special day amazing

    Tamara Melville's reply:

Oh Cherie. Thanks you for your beautiful review and for choosing us for your bridal glam. It was a pleasure working with you. Janese (hairstylist) even commented how easy it was to work with you. Congratulations and Blessings to you and your beautiful family☺

Tamara thank you so much for your hard work on August 29th you worked so well within the limited time constraints that we had and you managed to do my make up perfectly for my special day. The first time I met you I knew you would be the one to make me into the princess that I was. You oozed knowledge and professionalism with a kind patient personality. Thanks darling xx

Tamara is amazing! She provided makeup for myself, my mother and my mother-in-law ahead of all the Wedding Day festivities. None of us are real makeup wearers so as soon as I saw Tamara's portfolio of beautiful, natural looks, I knew she was the one for us! I could not have been any more right - she was fabulous!

    Tamara Melville's reply:

By the time I was ready to step into my wedding gown, Tamara had transformed me into what my now husbands describes as "the embodiment of Jamaican royalty". I wanted to look like a princess on my special day and Tamara did just that. More importantly, I wanted to look like myself, the most perfect version of myself. She achieved everything I wanted with masterful flourishes of her tools and great professionalism. Look no further, your artist is here!

    Tamara Melville's reply:

Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a detailed and lovely review. Yes you truly were the embodiment of Jamaican Royalty. It was an honour!

Tamara is Awesome! I am a makeup enthusiast so immediately noticed that her kit was stocked with high end luxury and pro brands. I loved that she was super hygeinic and made me feel so relaxed and comfortable. I loved my makeup. It lasted through the entire wedding and reception. The bridesmaids who had their makeup done with another artist had their false lashes fall off before they reached the church. Mine stayed on until I removed it. So happy Tamara did my makeup!

It was such a relaxing experience working with Tamara. I could tell she is very passionate and loves doing makeup. Her airbrushing skills are amazing!! I had previously done airbrushing with another artist and was very displeased with the results. Tamara delivered above and beyond, I looked very glamorous and received numerous compliments about my look!! She’s also very hygienic which is important to me.

    Professional service for destination wedding

Tamara was very professional and attentive in planning the makeup needs for my wedding. This was particularly great as we do a lot of the planning remotely over video calls. She was punctual on the day of and put me at ease in knowing that she would arrive at time with all the equipment. You can tell she has done this a lot, as she made sure to allocate the right amount of time for the makeup, even if it meant leaving Kingston at 6am to arrive in Negril with sufficient time for the hair and make-up for the wedding.

I flew in from Texas for my wedding, I had been following Tamaras work on instagram and made the decision after seeing her work on Adriana Weddings Blog.
I was not dissapointed, she was on time, friendly, professional and I got exactly what I had asked for. She even gave me a bit if the lipstick to touch up just in case, which I actually only used towards the very end after quite a few drinks. She definately was worth every penny and then some. Loooved my makeup especially in photos.

    What a disaster

    The service I expect:

    Left: what I got
Right: what I should have recieved along with the rest of the bridal party!

There is no better feeling when you have something special coming up, you have spent time and money organising the perfect outfit and you imagine exactly how you want to look on the day! You sit down in your glam chair and you get your makeup done for the final touches before your party, event, birthday or even a date!

Your makeup is finally done and you look in the mirror after your makeup artist has finished your Glam Session and you feel your confidence boost inside and you can’t help but smile and think “WOW I LOOK GOOD!”

Has anyone else had that feeling after they get their glam done and they cant help but take as man photos, selfies and to capture every moment because you genuinely feel so good and you don’t even need a Filter!

To get your glam done and to feel like your absolute best self is the magic that real makeup artists create! Makeup really is an art of not just some makeup products and brushes but creates magic in us women to go out and create memories where we also remember how great we felt!

I can tell you that I have had this experience with several makeup artists even just for birthday parties $80 that they charged me along with the $80 worth of products they provide you at the end of your session! It’s totally worth it!

Well Let me tell you a story!

I have been saving and have moved heaven and earth so that I can travel to the other side of the world from the land down under all the way to the beautiful carribean so that I can be present at my absolute beautiful best friends wedding!

We have imagined, planned, talked and built so much excitement about this day for such a long time! My best friends most important day is finally coming and we are all going to be together to celebrate , get dolled up, create some amazing memories and celebrate the love that this amazing couple share!

The night before the wedding: All of the girls are in our rooms and we are so excited, we start chatting away about all of the preparations during the lead up to this point! Just to name a few: We made sure not to go swimming and ruin our hair with the pool water and salt water, we have made sure not to go out in the sun and get burnt, Spray Tans, we have been clean eating for months, we have been following strict skin care routines all leading up to this big day so that we can look our absolute best!

We have our relaxing girly night to make sure we are feeling just perfect before the sun rises tomorrow! We put our hair treatments in, natural face masks, we have relaxing baths with beautiful Bath Bombs, Teeth Whitening treatments we head to bed to ensure we get enough sleep for the big day tomorrow! We all know exactly what time to get to the room to have our hair and makeup done and we have made sure everything is just right!

The sun rises and we all get up have showers and head to the room to start our Glam sessions and hair and makeup sessions start!

My beautiful Best friend starts getting her hair prepared so her curls can set before the hairdresser styles her hair the way they have prepared for in 2 trials before hand. Makeup sessions start and the absolute chaos begins!

The brides hair was done on and off over a period of 4 or 5 hours in between the bridesmaids hair and I could not believe that there was no communication verbally to anyone about what she was doing to our hair or the brides hair until it was completely finished! 30 minutes before the ceremony is due to begin, the hairdresser shows the bride her hair and it is completely I MEAN COMPLETELY different to what the bride ever asked for and had ever done in her trials! There was so much product in her hair that we had to wash parts of her hair out and try to do it ourselves in our bathroom! We had the makeup artist Tamara giving directions to the hairdresser and stopping her glam sessions on and off to give direction on the hair styling, meanwhile forgetting what she is up to with makeup and falling further and further behind to the schedule!

It was my turn to sit down and get my makeup done! I was surprised that the only question Tamara asked me was “Do you have oily or dry skin” to then be told she can not Airbrush me as she doesn't have my colour that will suit my skin type, even though Tamara was paid for airbrushing for everyone and she was sent photos of all of the bridesmaids in advance so that she knew our skin colour and tones.

I let it slide and said “As long as it will stay on for the whole day and night and will show in the photos, it should be ok”.

I started to get worried as it was 40 minutes in and Tamara had not asked me anything about how I would like my makeup. From all of my experiences with makeup artists, I have always been asked at bare minimum some of the below questions

1: What kind of coverage do you like?
2: How do you like your eyeshadow?
3: What shades do you feel good in or feel suit your eyes, dress colour?
4: How do you like your eyeliner?
5: What look are you hoping for? Do you have a picture?
6: Do you want a natural look or a more heavy look ?
8: What lip colour are you hoping for?

Tamara finally said she was finished and showed me the final look in the mirror! I had my best friend getting her hair done and looking a little nervous and I could not help but tell Tamara “Im really sorry but I can still see my skin imperfections, my acne scars and i really need more coverage if you can please”
Tamara then spent two minutes putting extra powder on my face and showed me the mirror again and I was genuinely not happy with how I looked for my best friend's wedding day! There was no part of me that felt that magic on the inside, there was no part of me that wanted to take selfies, take photos and show the world how beautiful i felt in the moment! I can tell you what I did not get:

    1: No Lip Liner
2: No great eye shadow work (I could have don’t this myself) No greta eyeshadow shaping or blending and the colours were so bland!
    3: No airBrushing
4: Makeup coverage was the are minimum and she did not seem to understand how to provide a floorless coverage
5: Most importantly: To see my bestest friend feeling free, beautiful and totally relaxed on her special day which was my number one priority on the day and this one service took all of that away from her and I am so disappointed that a so called professional managed create such a drama on a day that we all made such an effort to ensure everything ran smoothly!
6: Makeup that suits my skin type and my features
    7: Properly shaped eyebrows
    8: Stress free morning:
I had to try and fix one of the girls hair in the bathroom last minute because she was so unhappy with her hair!
Had to try and fix the brides hair with her in the bathroom
I spend weeks and lots of money on changing my hair colour, getting treatments and styling for the wedding and on the day there was so much product in my hair you couldn’t even see my hair colour as it was just wet looking!
I spent money on a champagne breakfast and none of us got to enjoy it because of the drama caused getting ready as no one was happy with their hair and makeup! Can you believe I had to remind Tamara that she had only applied foundation on one of the bridesmaids and that she still needed Blush, eye makeup, lips etc
Can you believe after all the money that was paid and the poor service provided, Tamara actually ensured that we knew we would be charged if we lost her top up lip gloss! Where I come form you pay 50% less of the overcharged price Tamara charged and you actually get that money back by getting products to take home!If i got this service in a store, even just for a Date: I would have walked out and not paid it was that bad!
We had a top well known photographer who was being paid to take photos of us getting ready and because of how bad everyone’s makeup and hair was tracking, I basically had to consistently send them away because there was no way we could take memory shots of the way we looked while getting ready as it was so bad! I feel so sorry we missed out on getting some amazing shots of us getting ready on such a special day because of the incompetence of this lack of service provided.

I have photos below of previous wedding makeup that I have had done with no dramas or stress, in a quicker time frame and been absolutely amazing results compared toTamara bridal makeup.

    Left: Tamara bridal makeup
Right: The floorless makeup we should have recieved on the day but didnt.

The absoloute weakest link in our wedding team :(

I engaged Tamara on 20 July 2018 and had 2 trials, one went for 5.5 hours and because Tamara needed to make adjustments, I had another trial for 3.5 hours. The second trial was meant to be at least 2 weeks before my wedding, however, Tamara was too busy and rescheduled it for within a week of the day.

This trial was somehow worse than the first (the unnecessarily heavy eyeliner looked like Cleopatra) and my hair was still completely wrong. When I asked why Tamara’s hair stylist, Janice Walker, had done it this way, Janice showed me a video Tamara had sent her as an example for my style – which I had never seen before. It was nothing like the photo I sent them 3 months earlier.

With looming work deadlines and the wedding just days away, I hoped to God they’d get it right on the big day.

They arrived at the wedding dressing room and started my hair at 7.30am….between make-up and hair, I didn’t leave the chair until after 2pm. I was meant to have about 4 hours free on my wedding day! But all I could do was sit there for 7 hours. Couldn’t even leave to eat one full meal, I was famished all day until dinner time.

When I looked at the finished hairstyle, I almost cried. It was NOTHING LIKE what I asked for, which was a low loose bun. It was a birds nest of ringlets on the very top of my head. How did this disaster eat up my whole day so far? At one point, Tamara stopped her work and started lecturing the stylist on how to do her job! Instead of undoing the pins and setting the style lower, Janice simply dragged the bun lower and pinned whatever “that” was onto my head.

I remember sitting there, STILL getting my hair done at 2pm and said, “You were both meant to have finished all 4 bridesmaids hair and make-up by 2.30pm, but you still have 3 more to go, not to mention the mother-of-the-groom and flower girl on the other side of the resort.” 5 people left with 30 minutes to go? It was panic mode.

My wedding hair NEVER looked like the simple photo which they had spent 9 HOURS practicing. I would have taken the style out, but all the tight curls were just wrong. I was actually shampooing and blow-drying the front of my hair MYSELF at 2.30pm to get rid of all those ridiculous curls.

Janice didn’t even have a blow drying brush to help me! When I asked for bobby pins she gave me blonde coloured ones – which didn’t work for my brunette hair.

Only one bridesmaid was airbrushed because Tamara “didn’t have their colour.” This was shocking as I gave Tamara each girl’s photo weeks beforehand. Be warned that Tamara fails to provide the right coloured air-brush make up and her kit is LIMITED FOR FAIR SKIN.

Bridesmaids received NO LIPLINER, NO LIPSTICK (just a thin gloss that barely showed up in photos). I ended up with dark eyeshadow that seemed to take over my face.

Myself and my bridesmaids had to SPECIFICALLY ASK for blush. Isn’t a touch of blush standard for weddings?

I actually bought my own (branded) lipstick and lipliner because Tamara’s lipstick cracked after the first trial and was unbearable and sticky.

After Tamara said she had ‘finished’ one of my bridesmaids, you could still see her acne scarring showing through her makeup. She was not shaded/bronzed either and looked flat and pale.

At 2.30pm I was frantically in the bathroom fixing one of my bridesmaids hair (she was upset because she looked “like a boy”). Another bridesmaid came in after her make-up and as she blinked, I noticed that her eyeliner was separated from her lash-line and it was not even drawn to the end of her lash-line (no sign of a nice small flick at the corners). It was half-drawn and rushed! No airbrushed make up or blush either. I immediately sent her back to Tamara to do the proper job I paid for. We were more than an hour late and still more to go.

There was mounting pressure which Janice did not handle well. She actually started crying so I went to her and gave her a hug. She stood sobbing in my arms then suddenly dramatically ran out of the room and never came back! Unbelievably unprofessional. My bridesmaids stood speechless.

Meanwhile, we had an entire photography and videography crew waiting for us. They had taken every other photo they possibly could and simply needed us to be free. Having them wait on our balcony for almost 2 hours was the equivalent of thousands of dollars. Helplessly watching the day’s schedule derail because of Tamara’s bad time management was so incredibly stressful. Tamara wasted our money in more ways than one.

Tamara was also late to see my mother in law. She said, “I’m just going to do a little something for you,” to which my in-law replied, “If it’s just going to be a ‘little something’ then please don’t bother.” I paid for her FULL face of make-up! How could she treat my mother in law like that? Especially since she doesn’t have her eyesight anymore :( this was meant to make her feel special and beautiful. I felt so bad when my mother-in-law told me this.

Eventually, we finally left the room for ‘first looks’ photos which we had to rush through and STILL we were all very late to the ceremony.
Seconds before I was to walk down the aisle, I was composing myself for a very special and important moment in my life. Then suddenly, Tamara appeared in my face and started dabbing a powder puff all over it! Then she pushed oil remover pads etc into my hands and I had to EXPLAI1N to her that I couldn't carry all this stuff as I walk down the aisle (omg!). I felt sucked out of the moment and bewildered at this unnecessary commotion – is this normal for MUAs to do?

A week later on the Friday, I contacted Tamara to have a meeting and discuss how the day went. At first she was obliging, but after the weekend, she contacted me and refused to communicate on anything except email. I was polite and further offered to meet anytime, any day, anywhere that suited her, but she said she was “completely unavailable” for the next 8 weeks and to book a meeting NOW requires a pre-paid fee of US185 per hour.

    US185 per hour!!!

Putting this in context, this "fee" is 3 TIMES what a specialist surgeon in Jamaica would charge – and if it’s a previous patient, IT’S FREE.

If I charged Tamara the same fee for the 9 hours of trials she completely wasted, it would cost her US1,665. But to raise this issue would further cost me US185 in the first place!!

Tamara and Janice were absolutely the weakest link in our wedding team that made our entire wedding program run so late and they created so much needless chaos and stress ☹

I have since asked Tamara to remove my first trial make-up photos from her social media platforms, and she promised she did. But they’re still there! I feel used. She took my money and my image and has now run away.

I’ve never written such a poor review in my entire life, but I know what goes into creating your cherished wedding day. If I had read one review like this about Tamara I would have moved right along and chosen someone who has the capability to deliver.

    Is it worth the risk?
