A secret gem in a wonderful city

The Swedenborgian was a fantastic find for our wedding ceremony. From the cost to the overall look and feel of the church, this place was a perfect choice for us.

It's interiors are absolutely divine with a warm feel of not just candlelight, but with truly warm and sturdy wood that envelopes the atmosphere with just pure warmth and love. It truly brought our family and friends together where it just felt right and perfect.

The process to reserve the Church for our non-denominational wedding was smooth and easy from the Event Manager communicating the overall cost, any limitations and answering questions to the Venue Coordinator helping us develop our ceremony timeline, schedule, and fielding questions and working with our Day of Coordinator.

I am absolutely thrilled that this church was our choice as it's value is incomparable for the look of it, the quality of the church and just the overall feel this location gave us from the first moment we visited, when we signed our contract to when we actually had our big day.

If you are planning to have an SF wedding and would love a classic, vibrant yet warm location for your ceremony that is intimate, lovely, and just allows you and your bridal party to shine, choose the Swedenborgian. They are worth their fair price and make it so easy.

Ethereal space, great for even the non-religious and those sharing alternative spirituality in their ceremonies

My now-husband and I had been looking at having our ceremony and reception in one space but we ended up choosing this venue because we realized we wanted my dad to walk us down a real aisle. We are not religious, but because the Swedenborgian welcomes diversity in their celebrations, we knew it was the perfect place for us. We brought in our celebrant (a friend who is an ordained Zen Buddhist priest) who gave us the right amount of spirituality in our otherwise secular ceremony script in this romantic and spiritual place. We could feel the magic and all our guests could, too!

Pictures do not do the church justice. Amazing location, amazing people (shot out to Jana and Ashley) who are extremely helpful. You will not regret using them.

We couldn't have hoped for a better venue (and all-round service) for our wedding at Swedenborgian Church.

It was perfect. The venue itself is even more beautiful in person than it is in photos, and everybody we worked with (Ashley, Holly, Dana, and of course Reverend Lee) were exceptionally professional and accommodating.

My (now) wife and I especially loved our meetings with Reverend Lee in the weeks and months leading up to our wedding. We came to look forward to these meetings and getting to know the Reverend in general (note: we don't identify as religious), and as a result he put us at complete ease during our wedding ceremony itself.

We honestly couldn't recommend Swedenborgian Church enough. Our guests have since told us how much they loved the venue (including the attached Parish House, which we used as our reception venue), and while we were having our photo taken outside the church directly after the ceremony someone jogged by, offered her congratulations, and told us she was also married at Swedenborgian!

My then fiance found this wedding venue online. It was named one of the 3 top wedding venues in San Francisco. We instantly fell in love with it once we scrolled through the pictures. A quaint historic small church was exactly what we were looking for. Ashley, the events coordinator, helped us every step of the way. Her email replies were fast as well as informative, which was very important to us as we were working overseas at the time. She answered and clarified every question we had. I had sent my cousins over to take a look at the venue for us. Even though Ashley could not make it to meet them, she made sure someone was there to show them around. She also was flexible with our payment schedule. She accommodated every request we made. On our big day, Holly was the person who was there to assist us. Our wedding ran a bit late, but she helped us in cleaning up so we could try to finish up by our scheduled time. I would recommend this venue to anyone who was looking to have a small wedding with close family and friends.

My (now) wife and I had a great experience and wedding at the Swedenborgian Church. The location was beautiful and we especially enjoyed working with Rev. Junchol Lee leading up to the ceremony. He did a great job counseling us in general as well as guiding us through the day itself. He was like an ocean of calm: just was we needed on a very intense day!

The Swedenborgian Church did a really fantastic job with our wedding ceremony and reception. They matched us up with our wonderful officiant, Rev. Rachel Rivers. The Church is gorgeous, and the Swedenborgian team took care of wonderful touches, including lighting the fireplace and beautiful candles for the ceremony. Ashley, Shannon and team worked seamlessly with our vendors (La Bonne Cuisine Catering, Sebastien Sanges Floral Design, and Pretty Please Bake Shop). They were extremely responsive to requests and questions, and helped with planning (including a helpful wedding planning document). Shannon was our wedding hostess the day of the wedding, and really went out of her way to ensure that everything went smoothly. The Swedenborgian Church Parish House is perfect for a small reception -- we had 40 guests for a seated dinner. The entire planning process was a delight. We had a blast the day of the wedding, as did our guests.

Me and my now husband, Dean, went away to San Francisco to get married and found this beautiful church. It was the best day in our lives and we will always remember how professional but yet friendly everyone was. Our reverend Rachel, our hostess Valeria and the musician Charles made the day just perfect, we'll always remember it! Everyone is complimenting our wedding photos in and around the church. Thank you

We had our ceremony at the church, our photos in the garden and a very short champagne toast in the adjacent small meeting hall. The church provided officiant and piano for the ceremony. Everyone was so kind, responsive, and really made it a special day for our very small 10 person wedding. I felt like a part of the community although I am not part of their congregation. I often wish I lived closer so I could go to the annual service that they have especially for those who have celebrated their weddings there. A very special place with very special people. They made our group, of disparate faiths, feel very welcome and included.

My husband and I were married at the Swedenborgian Church in October 2012. We had a Thursday evening wedding and it was absolutely everything we hoped for and more! We wanted to get married in the evening by candle light and the entire church was lit up with candles. It's a historical location too which added to the magic and charm of our SF wedding. The venue is an incredible value as you receive services from the minister, musician and wedding coordinator. This also included pre-wedding counseling with our minister which we really enjoyed. I'm Catholic and my husband is Jewish - neither of us is deeply religious but we are spiritual and wanted a ceremony that reflected this and we were able to choose the readings that best suited our beliefs and values. Our musician (pianist) was awesome as well and learned new music for us and played a fantastic selection of contemporary music to entertain our guests. We had a very small ceremony of 20 people but the venue can fit much more guests. In terms of value, it can't be beat. The location is in a quiet and beautiful residential are of SF as well. We had our ceremony at the church and our reception at Spruce restaurant which is very close to the church. Highly recommend!

My husband and I got married here earlier this month and it couldn't have been more perfect. We planned our wedding from Atlanta and weren't able to see the church in person or meet with anyone until 2 days before the wedding. It is a beautiful location, perfect for an intimate wedding. It looks even better in person than in the pictures I saw online. Rev. Doug and Valentyna were great. They were both so warm, friendly, and welcoming. I felt like I didn't have to worry about a thing with them there. We had our reception in the parish house, which was also beautiful with a great open floor plan that was perfect for mingling. They had enough chairs and couches set up that I didn't end up using any of the round tables they provide. I highly recommend getting married here. Everything was perfect and beautiful and I can't imagine having an easier time planning, especially since I was on the other side of the country.

We got married here earlier this month. It was perfect - lovely, intimate and the perfect size for our group of about 45 people. We didn't want a big church. We wanted a place that would make us feel close to our guests. The Swedenborgian Church's coziness and character (it's a National Historic Landmark) made for a very memorable ceremony. Our guests have said over and over what a beautiful church we chose.

Valentyna was a fantastic wedding hostess. She responded to all my e-mails promptly and made sure our rehearsal and ceremony went off without a hitch. Rev. Doug is wonderful. We met with him before the ceremony, and he was genuinely interested in getting to know us. As an Episcopalian, I knew nothing about the Swedenborgian Church before I started wedding planning. But Rev. Doug made me feel comfortable and was so flexible in letting us design the ceremony to our liking (which I did by inserting some elements from the Book of Common Prayer and asking a friend to read a poem).

I also think it's excellent value for the all-inclusive price. The$1,800 fee we paid includes the minister, musician, wedding hostess, rehearsal, candles, fireplace, conference with the minister, bridal dressing room and use of the garden for photos. Some other churches I researched ask for far more than this and require a lot more planning work!

The Swedenborgian has my highest recommendation.

I got married 4/9/11 at Swedenborgian Church. I had an overwhelmingly positive experience! The Event Manager, Valentna Hohl, was an absolute delight, offering genuine encouragement and helpful support along the way.

In fact, all of the staff that supported our marriage were tremendous -- Music Director Charles Calhoun, Reverend Doug Moss, Wedding Host Alice Grisez (all provided as part of the rental cost), and John Lehrak, Pianist ... they all supported our planning efforts in a professional and authentic way!

Throw in some of the vendors that I found on my own -- Toast Catering, Three Sisters Flowers, Ille Photography and Hopkins Street Bakery ... everything was absolutely top notch!! According to a good friend, "it was the most amazing wedding. Definitely on my top list for beauty and location."

Swedenborgian Church was the wonderful size for our group of about 85 guests. We used the chapel and adjoining parish hall. Even the bridal dressing room and the location for signing the marriage certificate were charming and photogenic!!

I cannot say enough about the warmth of the historic venue, with sunlight streaming through the windows and candles galore. If I might recommend Swedenborgian Church (and all of the vendors) to anyone planning a wedding, I would do so without hesitation. The venue itself stands proud on its own, as one of the most important members of my wedding cast of characters ... my husband and I will definitely visit Swedenborgian Church year after year, to remember and celebrate our wedding day with fondness and joy!

What a wonderful place to be married! My husband and I felt so fortunate to have found the Swedenborgian Church. The history behind this church is also fascinating. From the architecture to the previous members, this is truly a special place--a little gem in San Francisco.

Not only is this an amazing place to be married, but Valentyna was great to work with! We had an interfaith ceremony and everyone felt welcome.

I cannot imagine a more perfect venue for an intimate wedding and reception. We fell in love with the architecture of the sanctuary and parish house. We appreciate the historical significance of the building and the Swedenborgian religion. We enjoyed getting to know the pastor after attending church one Sunday. The officiant is different from the pastor, and our officiant (Rev. Doug Moss) was great too! Everyone at the church was extremely kind and helpful. The space was perfect for the size of our wedding (3 bridesmaids, 3 groomsmen, 72 friends & family attending) followed by a mingle-style reception in the parish house. We rented some cocktail tables and had catered appetizers, wine and champagne. It was absolutely lovely!

The Swedenborgian Church was the perfect venue for our daughters Bat Mitzvah. My only score that was less than 5-stars was for allowing some more flexibility on load-in and load-out. But all-in-all it was a perfect event.

My father was a minister, so we didn't need the officiant, but there was a member of the church staff who helped tamale sure everything was ready. The venue isn't large. We had 100 guests and that was definitely the maximum size. I would not go over that number at all. But it worth it. It's one of the most beautiful and unique church's in the entire Bay Area and we're lucky to have it in San Francisco.

The facilities were beautiful, the staff was extremely helpful and well organized, and the location could not be beat. One of the best venues for a wedding in all of San Francisco. As often as they do this, they make you feel like yours is the most special event they have ever done. All of the guests complemented us on the location and said it made for a memorable occasion. Highly recommended.

This is a beautiful, spiritual and elegant place to get married. The staff was wonderful and made many recommendations for flowers, catering, cake etc. We had a small wedding so were able to use the Parish House for out reception. It was a great day for us and our guests - just what we wanted.

We married at the Swedenborgian Church in San Francisco in January 2014. All the planning occurred remotely since we live in southern California, but they made it easy. The result was a beautiful ceremony, exactly as we had imagined it. The cost of the venue is very reasonable. Not only do you have the use of a uniquely beautiful and historic site, but it also includes a warm and caring pastor, a talented organist, and friendly, supportive wedding coordinators. We were able to customize the service and also used the list of vendors who have done other weddings at the church to find a fabulous photographer and florist. We highly recommend the Swedenborgian Church as a wedding venue!

My family is a regular at this church and we decided this was the place for my special day. The whole process of booking the venue, music etc was a breeze. After having heard of horror stories from several of my friends about how hard it is to find a good place for their wedding ceremony, I think we were incredibly fortunate to have chosen this beautiful church. It was truly a memorable wedding ceremony which met all of my expectations.

This is the dream place to have your ceremony. Me and my husband are working overseas and we went by the pictures that we saw to book this venue. When we finally arrived at the venue 1 week before our wedding, I am so pleasantly surprise to see that the pictures we saw online is exactly what we saw at the venue. I remember that day when we viewed the sanctuary with Ashley, the coordinator, sunlight was streaming in through the windows and it looked like a page off a fairy tale. The sanctuary is absolutely breathtaking, and the reception hall was quaint and lovely. I need to add that this is one of the earliest Arts & Crafts architecture in US, so if you are into architectural history like I am, you will fall in love with this place. Even if you are not, it is most memorable to be wedded at such a historical site. I felt really special the whole night, despite the crazy weather, tight schedule and all the jitters that a bride should feel, simply because there's this magical ambience in the air of this lovely historical church. I should add that not much decor is needed for the church, because it is already as lovely as you can imagine it.

Valentyna made planning our wedding at the Swedenborgian easy and elegant. This is the perfect spot in the city for private, intimate weddings. The fire crackled and lit candles glimmered around the edges of our ceremony as friends and family looked on. I will never forget how special our wedding was because of hosting it at the Swedenborgian.

Lovely intimate venue with attached space for reception and nice intimate garden. Valentyna - the host was very helpful and made sure everything went perfectly - even without a rehearsal.

The candle lit interior of the church could be a challenge for some photographers but make for some lovely shots.

The musician and officient were included and were accomodating and wonderful as well. All told a beautiful place for a small wedding of maybe 20-75 people

Overall, the venue was really great. If you've seen it, you already know it is beautiful. My wife and I invited around 65 people to our wedding and held our reception in the parish house at the church. We did a rehearsal the night before, and the staff was really great both at the rehearsal and the day of.

We didn't really do much venue shopping, so maybe other places in SF are as expensive as the Swedenborgian Church, but I did think it was a little spendy. Having said that, I don't regret having spent the money. :-)

The church is very beautiful and intimate. It's best suited for parties under 90 for the ceremony, and depending on the time of year, the lighting in the church can be a challenge for photographers, so make sure to visit ahead of time. The wedding program is non-denominational and open to everyone. Reverend Rachel is a warm and wonderful person to work with, and we appreciate the thoughtful and beautiful ceremony. We also quite enjoyed having the music director help us with the music. It was definitely a value.

This was a great location for our wedding. They had everything we needed in one place: Beautiful space - complete with real wood rafters that smelled fresh, fireplace, and a real cozy feel. It was small - we only had about 80 people, so it was perfect. The "house" musician was fantastic - and worked with us to choose music (he played the piano, and then the organ at our request).

Flexibility is marked lower, only because they were booked up. We ended up getting married on April 1st, which actually suits us ;)

The minister was also very personable. We met with her for some time to discuss what we wanted, and were able to custom choose our service.

Financially, we were able to save a bundle on decor - the place is beautiful on it's own.

This church is just beautiful and we had a wonderful wedding there. The garden outside was a great photo location and also had room for guests to mingle after the ceremony. The people we worked with were professional and very helpful although there were a few communication issues (not responding to emails...); nothing major though. The Swedenborgian is an absolutely stunning and memorable place to get married. We loved out officiant (Rev. Doug Moss), and thought that the on-staff Event Planner, Jenny, was really great. Our guests found it charming, unique and beautiful. However, the woman that was on-staff the day-of our wedding was horrible. She was not organized, didn't know how to communicate, and actually made the day a bit stressful for me and my husband. She asked for a $30 check in the middle of our family photo-taking session, and she also didn't lift a finger to help clean up, or put things in place, or direct guests, etc. She was useless, and I'm hopeful for further marrying couples, that she no longer works there. Overall, it was great, but she made the day-of a bit uncomfortable and strange. We didn't let us ruin the rest of the day though...it was all fabulous, and if we had to do it again, we wouldn't change a thing.

I had the most beautiful wedding at Swedenborgian Church in SF. The entire day was a fairy-tale that I will cherish for the rest of my life. The Chapel is absolutely gorgeous! It has the old century rustic feel my now husband and I adore. Its a small venue with so much charm. The garden area is so sweet and welcoming. You feel as though you are secluded from the rest of the world... I don't have enough words to explain this places beauty. So why only 3.5 stars? Communication with the event planner and the day of coordinator is a little difficult. You meet with the event planner whenever you want to view the grounds or have questions. However, the information he sometimes gives is not accurate. We were told we could set up the night before the wedding by him. Come to find out by the coordinator that would not be possible and we would only have an hour to set up the reception area before the ceremony began! We were offered to move around the timeline of the day or pay an extra 600+ for an extra hour!! This is on top of the 5000 we already spent for the venue. You have to deal with 2 separate people to get information or figure things out. They obviously don't share all the information because I had to have the same conversation with both of them a couple of times. which made me feel like I was just repeating myself constantly. And I was always left feeling like I still wasn't 100% sure the info was accurate. They did let us store our decorations and supplies in their storage area the night before which was helpful.... but I didn't understand why we couldn't just set up since our things were occupying the space anyways! We have such amazing families, they all chipped in the day of to help set up. They were able to get it all done in the one hour we had available. All in all the day was wonderful and I would still recommend this space. Just be aware communication might feel a little run aroundish and frustrating at times.
