A wonderful DJ for our wedding!

We’re so glad we hired Spencer to DJ our wedding! He handled the audio for the wedding ceremony itself, MC’d the reception, played the music for the dancing, and also provided uplighting for the event space. Everything he worked on just went smoothly. The audio for the ceremony was high quality and just worked. He did a great job as MC, staying on time, announcing what was happening, and making everyone feel welcome. He did fantastically with the music too - we had a few specific requests, and he nailed them all, but most of the night we gave only vague instructions and he made a ton of great picks, keeping energy high on the dance floor. The uplighting he provided was beautiful as well and really elevated the space! Throughout the process, he was easy to work with, timely, communicated proactively, and was always on top of every little detail. We’d definitely recommend him for anyone looking for a DJ!

An incredible musical experience for a wedding

We had such an incredible experience working with Spencer at Sutherland Entertainment for our wedding, and we are so grateful for everything he did to help make the day unforgettable. From the planning process through the wedding itself, he brought professionalism, flexibility, great communication, and an amazing energy to the celebration.

The music was absolutely perfect, and we received so many compliments from our guests throughout the night. He did an amazing job incorporating our musical tastes, mixing songs seamlessly, and keeping the dance floor full all evening long. There honestly was not a single song we didn’t want to dance to!

We especially appreciated how attentive he was to the timeline and scheduling throughout the day. Everything felt smooth and effortless, which allowed us to fully enjoy the celebration without worrying about logistics.
One moment that meant so much to us personally was that he learned to play “Sweet Child O’ Mine” on the acoustic guitar for our walk down the aisle. My husband learned to play it for me and played it on our first date, so hearing it during the wedding was incredibly special and such a meaningful touch.

Beyond being an incredibly talented DJ, he truly helped create the atmosphere and energy that made our wedding feel like such a joyful celebration. We feel very lucky to have had him as part of our wedding team and would wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone looking for an amazing wedding DJ experience.

Best combo of lit vibes + organization!

Spencer was fantastic at our wedding at Ardenwood this month! I was drawn to working with Spencer as soon as he presented his planning spreadsheet during our first intro call. I'm already a type-A spreadsheet-obsessed type of bride so to have a DJ already have their own spreadsheet with all of the details outlined and thinking 3 steps ahead, it was a perfect match. With all of the information that we shared, Spencer was able to take that with just about a week of notice (because we were a bit delayed :) ), and executed our entire wedding flawlessly. My biggest priorities for the wedding DJ was keeping the wedding on time and keeping people lit on the dance floor - both of which were achieved. Thank you Spencer!!!

All of the Compliments We Received Were About the Music

We reached out to Sutherland Entertainment for our May wedding at the Berkeley City Club, and knew as soon as we spoke to Spencer that we would be moving forward with his company. Spencer was incredibly insightful, experienced, and innovative in ways that challenge standard DJ services. He offered everything from full service music and audio with club-style transitions, to station and bistro lighting, and ensured that his equipment was elegant and well suited to the venue. His style incorporated both our personal music selections, crowd pleasers, and was able to adjust to the crowd. From the time our dance floor opened to the time it closed, it was never empty. Every compliment were received the morning after the wedding included some mention of how great the DJ was, and how our Tuesday night wedding had such incredible energy. Spencer had our wedding guests doing the worm, the splits, dropping it low, and singing like no one was listening. Thank you, Spencer, for making our special day incredibly memorable and a true party!

Loved working with Spencer

We worked with Spencer directly for our wedding and highly appreciated his attention to detail, responsiveness, and flexibility throughout the planning process. We weren't super timely in delivering our playlists and song choices, and he was understanding and helpfully reminded us when we were getting closer to the big day. Additionally, he did a fantastic time MCing and working with our day-of coordinator to make sure the ceremony kept on-time (since our venue had a strict cut-off time).

Spencer rocks!

Spencer came highly recommended by our venue owner and hiring him for our wedding was the BEST decision we made. He’s thorough, professional, knowledgeable, friendly, easy going and a pleasure to work with. He was patient as we navigated the process and worked closely with us to create amazing playlists. We also had him play guitar during the reception and it was magnificent! Finally, when we asked for some last-minute changes, he accommodated them with grace and understanding. Spencer was absolutely amazing throughout the entire wedding planning process. His communication and website is so clear, he follows a helpful timeline, and he knows what questions to ask to make your wedding run smoothly. At our wedding, Spencer was professional, kind, and calm. His guitar playing is stunning and his DJing was perfect. Our wedding ran so smoothly because of him. Great DJ at our daughter and son-in-law's wedding

We really enjoyed working with Spencer Sutherland at the Haven in Tomales for our daughter and son-in-law's wedding. Contracting was simple and he did a beautiful job with the lighting. He kept the entire evening moving at a great clip, played all the songs from our playlist, and handled the speeches extremely well. Most importantly, the dance floor was crowded for two solid hours and many of our guests commented that they have never danced more at a wedding!

AMAZING - Absolutely no regrets

Spencer was the most amazing wedding DJ I've ever seen. He was professional, organized, structured, kind, and talented. He could really pick up the vibes in the room and make changes accordingly. He also made sure that we didn't go off schedule. We didn't have a day of coordinator so looking back, our wedding would not have been so seamless without him. I would 100% recommend him. I have nothing but positive things to say about him, and I have yet to see another DJ as good. I have no regrets!

Very professional and responsive

We hired Spencer to MC and DJ our wedding and were very happy with his services. Given that our venue did not have the best acoustics, Spencer did a great job making sure that we had the right sound set up. He was prepared for every minute of the reception and was careful to make sure that he got everybody's name in the program correct. With some general direction with regards to musical genres, Spencer picked a repertoire of songs that were perfect for our guests. His equipment sounded great and all of our guests really enjoyed the music and the vibes of our celebration.

The Best! Thank you Sutherland

I truly could not have been happier with the service provided by Spencer Sutherland and his team!! The live music, DJ, and photo booth were PERFECT and our guests had a blast. Everything went off without a hitch and it was instrumental to our wedding being seamless and so memorable.

The guitarist, David, added a very special element to our ceremony and our DJ Kevin kept everyone dancing until the very end of the night! All of our guests loved the photobooth and I am so grateful for the hundreds of photos taken that I will cherish for a lifetime.

During the planning phase, Spencer was proactive in making sure all details were determined ahead of time. The online planning forms made it very easy. During our initial call Spencer was clear in explaining all of our options and was quite responsive from start to finish.

I would recommend Sutherland Entertainment to anyone I know and I look forward to working with them for future events.

Great wedding DJ!

Spencer was a great addition at our wedding! He had a very easy to use online planning form and had a lot of good tips for our timeline. He is very well organized and handled last minute changes at our wedding very well. Everyone had a great time dancing! He even took a few videos for us of our guests dancing. Fantastic Experience!

We are extremely pleased with our decision to work with Sutherland Entertainment for our wedding. DJ Cody took the time to sit down with us beforehand to understand our vision and he delivered exactly what we were hoping for on our wedding day. Great service, communication, and DJ!

Spencer was great to work with for our wedding at the Brazilian Room this past September 2019. He gave us just the right amount of guidance to recommend how to have our event run smoothly, while still allowing us to make all of the decisions in the planning process. As part of the package, the forms they provided made the planning process and putting together song requests for the DJ super easy. Our DJ, Derek, was so personable and played just the right songs at the end of the night for our crowd. Also, Sutherland Entertainment is a preferred vendor for The Brazilian Room in Berkeley, so if you’re getting married there, they have a special package that’s discounted, which is a great deal. They also offer lighting services, which we took advantage of, and our venue looked absolutely beautiful that night.

Great Experience

We hired Sutherland Entertainment for our wedding and would recommend their services. David, a guitarist, provided beautiful music for our outdoor ceremony and even learned the specific song that I wanted for my walk down the aisle. The rest of the Sutherland team made sure that the sound was perfect for the ceremony and provided mics for the officiant and readers. For our reception, Sutherland provided fantastic, warm uplighting that worked well in our space. DJ Kevin controlled the music for the reception and did a good job. He played quite a few of the songs that we requested, but not a lot of them. In his defense, though, what he did play was a hit with the guests, which is probably why he is a DJ and I am not :). Overall, we had a great experience with Sutherland Entertainment. We found their pricing fair and Spencer, the owner, was very communicative and thorough to ensure that our day went smoothly.

Awesome, affordable, highly recommend these guys for lights and DJ

Sutherland provided the lights, audio set up, and DJ for our wedding. From our initial conversations, Spencer was incredibly helpful, responsive, and open to our ideas and suggestions. We had them set up string lights above our dining area, and it looked AWESOME. All the audio was on point. At first we weren't sure we wanted to have a DJ and had discussed options for audio support only, but after conversations with Spencer we decided to go for the full DJ package with lights. We had absolutely no regrets. DJ Kevin was a dream to work with -- he perfectly balanced selecting songs from our playlist with selections of his own and expertly mixed them together during song transitions. We got lots of compliments on the dance floor lights as well, which really enhanced the atmosphere. This was the dance party of our dreams, and it was in large part thanks to Sutherland -- we highly recommend them for your wedding!

Excellent Choice for Wedding Entertainment

We are very happy that we chose Spencer and his team at Sutherland Entertainment for our wedding. When searching for a DJ for our wedding, it was difficult to know who to choose, especially when looking from out of state. My now husband set up a phone call with the owner of Sutherland, Spencer, and felt at ease and confident that Sutherland Entertainment was the right choice. Spencer is genuine and honest. Throughout the many months of planning Spencer was available to answer questions and didn’t miss a detail. Also, Sutherland was our top choice for the array of services they offer and for the reasonable prices. We were able to pick a package that fit all our needs; including, lighting, DJ and photobooth!

The lighting was perfect with amber up lighting in the reception room, string lights on the patio, colorful lights on the dance floor and more. It all looked beautiful and inviting.

DJ Cody was great at his job and kept the party moving. He was easy to work with, took our song requests and was there to help direct guests throughout the night. He was super friendly too! He was engaged with the party and didn’t miss a beat. All his sound levels and timing were perfect.

Lastly, the photobooth was a huge hit at our wedding. We are so glad we decided to add it in our package. The prime placement of the booth within the venue, plenty of fun props and prints available to print right away, email or text helped make this a highlight of the night. It was so fun to look through all the photos of our family and friends after the wedding!

Overall, we highly recommend Sutherland Entertainment!

Absolutely Amazing!

Sutherland was great from the moment of speaking on the phone with the owner regarding our needs. To being able to speak to DJ Derek and get a feel for his style. Spencer at Sutherland was great and he has one of the most organized timelines for the wedding. The uplighting was the great tone of color for our wedding. DJ Derek was able to entertain the dance floor the entire night, he truly was seamless in terms of music transitions and selecting the right songs. Overall, five star experience. Would recommend to anyone as they were affordable and the best.

Guys. I cannot recommend Sutherland Entertainment strongly enough. Spencer and our audio technician were truly a joy to work with and made our wedding. Music is super important to us, so audio quality at our wedding was crucial, but we had our wedding at a park in Oakland (Roberts Regional Recreation Area) that does not allow generators. No problem for Sutherland Entertainment! They set up speakers both at our ceremony and reception site, miked up our officiant, and provided mikes for us for our vows and for our toasts. Spencer also worked with us to ensure that we could create our own playlists and they would play as we wanted them to. Everything went off without a hitch, and the sound was excellent, which was super impressive regardless - I've been to weddings at established wedding venues with permanent audio staff where they've had audio issues - but especially impressive considering the venue and site limitations. Not to mention, our venue was up a hill with no real car access - they made it work and did not once complain (which is more than we can say for our wedding coordinator, but that's for another review). TLDR: Hire Sutherland Entertainment for your event, you will not be disappointed. We will definitely use them again!

Sutherland Entertainment is a true gem of a company. My wife and I are so blessed to have stumbled across this company for our big day. Spencer, the owner of Sutherland Entertainment, truly took the time to cater to our every need. Even before signing a contract, Spencer did extremely well to provide us with all of our options and made recommendations for lighting and music that my wife and I did not even think of to begin with. Spencer and his team's response time to e-mails and phone calls were very prompt and communication was friendly and professional. My wife and I have dealt with many vendors for our wedding and Sutherland Entertainment is head and shoulders above the rest. Spencer arranged to have Kevin Ayers play guitar at our ceremony and DJ Cody for our reception. Kevin played exceptionally and was so great to deal with on the day. DJ Cody was hands down the best DJ I've ever had the pleasure to meet. If I could give more than five stars to Spencer and his team I certainly would. Liaison Spencer:
Spencer was extremely detail oriented, and we were able to do everything over email. He kept us on track and on time in our overall planning. I was never worried about emailing him, I would always get an answer back.

DJ Kevin:
Throughout the planning process, Kevin was very accessible via email and phone. Sitting on a phone call with him didn't feel like work and he was able to do everything we asked before the wedding, such as seamlessly splice a song for the Father/Daughter dance. Super easy going, fast to schedule, we never had conflict with him.

Kevin was sharp and asked us for certain things, such as a script for the reception, which played a large role in people enjoying our reception. We had special announcements we wanted to make and Kevin nailed it.

He also was constantly in touch with us during the whole reception, keeping us up to date on where we were in our schedule. He was flexing to every event and did a fantastic job being the ultimate collaborator in the largest "one and done" party we've ever thrown in our lives.

Kevin was really hype at the reception himself. He joined in and made sure that the atmosphere was pumped up for our entrances and dances. The dance music itself was a hit and everyone stayed on the dance floor until the very end.

Kevin absolutely nailed it. I would absolutely recommend him to any of our other friends!

Photobooth:
We had a photobooth as well as a photo backdrop for greeting guests. Everything was set up before we showed up to the venue. The photobooth technician was warm, welcoming, helpful and had a great sense of humor as my friends all reported that the technician couldn't stop laughing and commenting on their creativity with the photos. The photoback drops were rather large, able to squeeze in groups of 8-10 people.
I was able to create my own photo strip design and Sutherland was happy to accommodate so that I could give my own touch to the guest mementos.

Our wedding went incredibly smoothly thanks in part to Sutherland Entertainment. Spencer Sutherland was very easy to work with and knew exactly what we needed for our wedding. DJ Trevor was excellent; his music choices pleased us and all of our guests. My husband and I are very impressed with his work, especially considering that we did not give him many guidelines. Our guitarist Justin played the most beautiful music. I was so happy to have that perfect touch added before our ceremony. DJ Alex Storm did an amazing job playing everything I had picked out. What a professional! While guests were chatting, he played all my fav music from the 80's. During dining, Alex played everything appropriate for guests. And when it was dance time; everyone got on the floor to dance. So much fun! I would use Sutherland again in a heartbeat!

We used Sutherland Entertainment for our wedding and we were so happy! Putting on events is not our thing and we had very little time to dedicate to planning. Spencer was amazingly helpful and supportive. He made it easy and was flexible with last minute changes. We were so happy working with the Sutherland team for our wedding. They were very attentive to detail from the beginning of the relationship all the way through to the event day. The entertainment, Guitarist, Photo Booth and DJ were all great and our guests thought so too. We received many compliments on their behalf. DJ Cody was great, we had a good briefing call so he could get a feel for our tastes and expectations. From there he was great to work. At the wedding, our dance floor was packed from beginning to end. I would highly recommend the Sutherland team and like to work with them again. We went we their Diamond Package which also included lighting, making it very convenient to take care of so many needs with one responsible vendor. A little pricey but certainly worth it for the quality and reliability of an experienced team.

Sutherland Entertainment was recommended by our wedding coordinator, and my husband and I could not have asked for a better company to go with. Our package included a sound system for our ceremony, reception, and dance party (all in different locations), lighting for the reception and ballroom dance party, and photobooth that was moved from cocktail hour to the ballroom during dinner. DJ Cody was fantastic to work with. My husband and I provided an extensive playlist, and he honored our playlist + threw in some music that he believed the crowd was feeling. We even got to design our own photo strips, which was super awesome.

We used Sutherland Entertainment for our wedding ceremony music and DJ. Planning was super easy and I always got a quick response. Matthew played guitar at our outdoor ceremony and it was perfect. He is very talented! DJ Tom was great! He had people on the dance floor all night! He was professional and handled some last minute changes without a problem. In short, everything was amazing! The photo booth was a total hit and the quality of the pictures were amazing. I also can't say enough good things about our DJ, Mat. Most definitely book with this DJ company. My guests did not stop dancing, he read the crowd perfectly! He was professional, smiling, helpful and a wonderful addition to the wedding. I would absolutely book DJ Trevor, and any DJ through Sutherland Entertainment because they literally made the party the best it could be! The guests loved the phtotbooth and thought it was one of the easiest and most user friendly ones they have ever used. I liked that digital copies of the photos were sent to me after the event!

We are so happy we chose Sutherland Entertainment. All the special songs - processional, first dances, cake cutting, etc - were exactly as requested. Our talent played songs that made my guests dance all night and accepted a few requests. He even helped one of our guests find a song from my home country. My wife and I went through Sutherland Entertainment for our wedding in August and couldn't have been happier with the outcome! Everything provided my Spencer and our DJ Matthew were more than I expected. Spencer took a lot of the planning into his own hands which was a huge relief for my wife and I. I am giving Sutherland Entertainment 5 stars!! After reflecting on our wedding day, I was MORE than satisfied with their DJ services! Before I rave about how amazing our DJ was, I do want to warn future brides about one thing: Although Spencer (the owner) was very prompt and professional in his emailing, the contract and booking process was a bit confusing. I felt like I was purchasing a bunch of little packages instead of 1 package that included all that I needed. When I was researching for DJ's, the initial quote I got from Sutherland was in my price range; however, once I already booked with them and signed the contract, Spencer brought up additional things that were needed for our DJ service (for example: extra subwoofers because of our guest count- 250). It would have been nice to know all of the additional requirements up front before I signed anything or paid anything. Throughout the whole process, I ended up making 3 separate payments to them- 2 of which were for later additions. My advice for future couples is to read all emails and contracts very clearly and ALWAYS ask questions. I would also suggest a phone conversation as things tend to get lost in translation through email. ALL THAT TO SAY, I LOVED OUR DJ, MAT. DJ Mat exceeded my expectations as a wedding DJ. I could not have been happier with his talent. His speaking skills were smooth and flawless. He guided the night with ease and fun! He made a point to come over the head table, introduce himself, and wish us congratulations. He was also dressed very professionally in a tie. He had the dance floor packed by song #2 and nobody left for the rest of the night! I loved every single song he chose and he played almost every song that I put on our list.After the wedding, all of our guests were raving about how it was the best dance party/wedding they had ever been to!

Really glad we went with Sutherland Entertainment for our wedding. Prices were reasonable and Spencer was very responsive to questions via email. DJ Derek was our DJ and he was great -- professional, played all our requested songs, and spun a great mix. He made all the announcements we asked him to make but did not try to take over the show. (If you're looking for a more in-your-face DJ/MC presence, then you should probably specify that ahead of time. We had family members play that role for us so DJ Derek was perfect.) Overall, planning was a breeze, we were happy, guests were happy -- would choose again.

Spencer and his team were great to work with! We got married at Wente Vineyards this past December where Sutherland is a preferred vendor. Spencer was easy to work throughout the whole process. With the music he ensured we felt in control enough of the playlists and song selections while still providing feedback and suggestions given his experience. For the lighting we got married in a wine cave and the amber up lighting he suggested was beautiful and complemented the candlelight. And DJ Derek was fantastic at our wedding - we had a very intimate wedding and he read the crowd and had everyone dancing all night! He took song requests while still ensuring it fit with the overall vibe. Guests came up to us after the wedding to tell us how great he was. Highly recommend!

I just had my wedding with 9/5/15 and booked my guitarist and DJ through Sutherland Entertainment. My guitarist was Justin Houchin and my DJ for the evening was DJ Von. Justin was absolutely amazing and very easy to work with. He played the guitar beautifully and helped guide us to picking the best selection of music for the ceremony. DJ Von was the absolute best wedding DJ ever. Our number one goal for our reception was to get everyone on the dance floor and keep them there and DJ Von did just that. He knows how to read the crowd and play the right music at the right time. His MC-ing is super casual and flows incredibly well with the event. He was extremely helpful during the planning process, very responsive, and made the entire experience so easy. His music selection was perfect - great mix of oldies, trendy music, and a lot of awesome remixes. I highly recommend working with him - it'll be one of the best decisions you make while planning your event or wedding. Overall my experience with Sutherland Entertainment was the best. You will not regret your decision working with them.

We chose Sutherland Entertainment in part because they were a preferred vendor of the St. Francis and because they were highly rated on Yelp. I can tell you that Spencer did not disappoint, he was responsive, professional, accommodating and very easy to work with. His pricing is fair and competitive. And DJ Cody was fantastic! We picked Sutherland as a preferred vendor for the Westin St. Francis in San Francisco, and we definitely know why they're a preferred vendor. They were fantastic! We picked the platinum package and it was perfect for our needs. Sutherland was quick with their responses, and their guitar player for our ceremony (Justin) and DJ and tech (Cody and Evan) for our reception were great.
We gave our requests for the ceremony (our two processional songs were Somewhere over the Rainbow and Here Comes the Sun) and Justin played them beautifully, and tied them together so well.
Before the event, I also filled out a form picking 50 of my "love" music and 25 "like" songs (as well as list songs that I absolutely didn't want played), and Cody played it all and mixed it so fantastically. Great sound quality and great lighting. Everyone was raving about the music all night!
I had been on the fence before the event about whether we should've gone with the diamond package (includes a photobooth). I think that is absolutely a great choice, and I might add that if I had to do it all over again, but I also didn't feel like we were lacking anything in the party without it because the music kept everyone going all night and it was a fantastic party.
We had an absolutely blast, thank you, Sutherland Entertainment!

Our wedding was last weekend and I'm STILL getting rave reviews and basking in the glow of DJ Cody and Sutherland Entertainment. DJ Cody is an A++++++++. A lot of our guests were in the mood to 1. drink and 2. dance. Cody made sure that the dance floor was packed the entire night.

Upon returning to work this week, my coworker (who attended our event) immediately said to me "Wedding was amazing! That DJ!!!" Most people say it's the best wedding dance floor they've ever been on.

DJ Cody worked with us patiently and expertly throughout our planning process. He played songs perfectly throughout our ceremony (even cutting one track to make it flow better). He took requests, but filtered out the ones that wouldn't have made the party better.

If you're getting married in the area, you need DJ Cody. It's that simple.

We hired Sutherland Entertainment for our April, 2015 wedding after a referral from a friend. It was the BEST decision!!!! Spencer was very professional throughout the planning process and gave us much needed guidance. I had some family health problems right before the wedding and he was so supportive and understanding. The online playlist set-up was easy to use and made picking out our music a breeze. DJ Von was our DJ and he made our wedding day! I had so many guests come up to me at the wedding and weeks after telling me it was the best DJ they'd seen/heard at a wedding. DJ Von knew how to read the crowd and got everyone dancing. We couldn't have found a better DJ. We met with him in person and he explained what he does and offers in plain english. Once we signed him up, he was willing to meet with the father of the groom, the bride, and groom a month beforehand to go over details. A week leading up to the wedding he brought things to the attention of the bride and groom that other vendors neglected to mention. For example he had great input on the flow of the evening to make sure the guests would be entertained all evening.

We had him do live guitar for the ceremony and DJ for the cocktails and reception. The guitar was great. It was said to be "incredible" coming from a musical family member. I had guests come to me and say how great the DJ was without being asked. There were people on the dance floor from the minute dancing started all the way to when the DJ was required to stop by the venue.

Spencer is a wonderful classic guitar player, setting the appropriate tone for our son's outdoor wedding. He is also an astute and extremely engaging DJ who reads a diverse wedding reception house (140 people of all musical tastes), and both cradled and rocked the place. Everyone danced (8 months to 80 years old).
Spencer is a professional in every aspect of his business, preparation, support for the day, and execution.

If searching for a DJ, search NO MORE. Spencer is not only the best DJ I've ever heard at a wedding, his planning skills are easy to use and he is SO organized, which in the midst of wedding planning, is a must! A DJ can make or break a crowd, Spencer did everything I paid him for and SO much more. He was attentive to our wants and needs and made everything run so smoothly! Spencer was recommended to us by our venue and after just one meeting, we knew why: he's incredibly talented, genuinely passionate about what he does, and a pleasure to work with. He talked to us about our likes and dislikes, listened to us about the kind of wedding we wanted, and gave us amazing guidance about how to make it happen. My fiance and I both care about music and wanted what was played at the wedding to reflect our taste; Spencer totally understood where we were coming from and made some great suggestions about how to incorporate what we wanted while still keeping the party going (he's great at feeling out the crowd and playing just the right song to get people on the dance floor). We chose Spencer based on a recommendation from another vendor that told us that if we wanted a Dance Party...to hire Spencer.
Wow...was that the truth!!!
Spencer was completely professional, responsive and helpful during the planning process. He was accommodating and patient with any budget constraints and gave me a lot of great advice.
As for the day of...he played the guitar for the ceremony beautifully and then was nimble enough to switch over and make sure to play the songs we needed from his sound system for our recessional. He came and scouted our location the day before (because we hired him to play down in L.A.) and was totally fired up and prepared to make sure everything went smoothly.
He did a fantastic job of MC'ing the wedding...not talking too much but just making sure the guests knew what was going on.
He helped us pull off a fun choreographed first dance on an entirely different dance floor and even helped my husband surprise me with a serenade by having a sound system/mic ready for that... and he kept the secret!!! :D
He kept our dance floor absolutely PACKED all night!!! We thought that was going to be difficult because our dance floor was on a slant and we thought guests would not dance...forget about it! Spencer had them dancing so much that we actually pooled money together and paid him to stay an extra 3 hours (and he even threw in an extra half hour for us because he is so cool!)

You can't worry about every little song that is played...if you do, then you should have an IPOD list and hire a friend to man it. Spencer has the gift of music and the ability to read a crowd. Let him do his thing and you won't be disappointed!!!

I hired Spencer on the recommendation of a friend. I thought that the overall VALUE of his services was great. I read the other reviews, and I will say that there were some songs from my "must play" list that I do not remember hearing. Spencer is professional, and accomodating, I think that he did a GREAT job, both in his guitar playing and as a DJ, he was also REALLY REALLY excellent on the announcing/MC part of my wedding. Choose Spencer! Spencer was simply fantastic from the planning to the execution! He was extremely professional, punctual and makes the daunting task of planning wedding and reception music really, really easy, and even fun.

He played guitar for the wedding and cocktail hour, and then DJ'd for the reception. The guitar playing was absolutely perfect. My only request for the reception was our guests have a good time. Boy did Spencer deliver! He played songs from our request list, but definitely played music appropriate to the age group. He really pays attention and plays music to the crowd on the dance floor, which was awesome. He is respectful of your desires for your wedding and does everything he can to make sure his part of your day is nothing less than perfect.

Related to this review is that I planned my wedding and worked with all the vendors. Spencer was consistently the most responsive, and required the least amount of "checking-in". It was an absolute relief to have him as a part of my wedding day. Without any reservations, I highly recommend Spencer Sutherland.

Spencer is the best! From the time we met him, we knew he was the one we wanted to DJ at our wedding. Spencer is a multifaceted entertainer. He DJs and plays guitar. He played guitar prior to our ceremony and for the cocktail hour. He also helped me playing a song during the ceremony. He is not the average DJ. He played to the crowd and made our reception a true success.

Spencer of Sutherland Entertainment did an absolutely fantastic job in every way. Our event was very challenging in that he had to perform in four different locations in five hours. We read our vows to his romantic Spanish guitar and closed the night to the famous New Orleans Second Line. Spencer has range and was a true pleasure to work with.

Our guests were from all over the country as well as some from abroad and all sang praises about the music.

If I could give Spencer more stars I would! We hired Spencer to pay Latin guitar at our ceremony/cocktail hour and then DJ the rest of the reception. Not only was the guitar amazing, Spencer kept the dance floor packed (packed!!!) all night! He was courteous, helpful, and professional. I had a million questions leading up to the wedding and he was patient with me. He has planning software on his website which is so helpful because you can take your time filling out the timeline and developing your song lists and save as you go. I would highly recommend Spencer for anyone who wants to have a great reception!

At MOTB - the wedding day isn't about playing what the parents want to hear, it's about what the bride and groom want. One way to kill a dance party is to play a waltz!

Hire Spencer ladies and gentlemen! You will NOT be disappointed! :)

Spencer did a great job at our wedding reception; he played guitar during the cocktail hour and provided DJ service for dinner and dancing. He was super helpful during our first meeting, giving useful tips to help us choose our play & do not play lists, and even sharing recommendations for caterers and other vendors during our early stages of planning.

Our reception presented a few challenges for any DJ . . .

For instance, our venue had a very strict noise policy, and we were warned several times by our venue manager that the DJ absolutely must adhere to it. Spencer patiently answered my questions about this, and during the reception made sure we had music everyone could hear and enjoy without incurring the wrath of our venue manager.

We also had a pretty mixed group of guests, with some wanting after-dinner conversation and others wanting to dance - Spencer kept both groups happy and kept us happy too. I especially appreciated the way he checked in with us during the last hour just to make sure there were no songs we especially wanted to hear that he had not played yet. Thanks for everything Spencer!

We couldn't have had a better experience. We asked Spencer for the "Gold Package": live guitar for the ceremony, and then DJ music for cocktails, dinner, and dancing. From a planning point of view, using Spencer for all of our music and sound system needs was incredibly convenient.

I worked as a caterer for more than 10 years, so I've seen hundreds of wedding DJs, most of which are fairly underwhelming. Spencer, on the other hand, is EXACTLY what a wedding needs. He struck the perfect balance between being totally present and on-point for the necessary logistics, while being seemlessly in the background at all other times. He worked the crowd by being a great DJ foremost, not by being some kind of wedding goofball. There was no YMCA and no chicken dance, just people dancing endlessly to music they were excited to hear. Spencer respected our requests, and got the mood of the crowd perfectly. A number of our guests were people who care about music (and DJs specifically); they had nothing but great things to say.

Our wedding space (Headlands Center for the Arts in Marin) was logistically challenging; it required quite a bit of advanced set up as well as timely movement from room to room. Spencer handled it totally. The timing and execution of transitions from ceremony to cocktails, cocktails to dinner, and dinner to dancing were flawless.

And to the most important point: the dance floor was packed all night, and no one wanted to stop dancing -- exactly what you want at your wedding.

Spencer is very, very good at his job. Get him for your event.

Spencer was our dj at our wedding reception this past January 2009 and I cant say it enough - he was incredible! He obviously loves music and is just so talented. We had so many guests comment on how awesome the music was at our reception. Spencer was extremely professional to work with. He made sure to understand what we wanted and also recommended music to us. At the end of the day, we had a few requests and we let him do his thing and he had hit after hit classic, old school to current music. It was awesome. He can definitely read a crowd and knows which songs are crowd pleasers. We had all age groups at our wedding and everyone was dancing! Also he did a very good job as MC at our reception. It was a wonderful night and we are really glad we picked Spencer for our dj. I highly recommend him.

I can not say enough good things about Spencer Sutherland and his company. I found him online and was a little leary as I was not referred, but after emailing back and forth he put me at ease. After listening to clips of his guitar playing, I knew I wanted that for my ceremony music, it is beautiful. He also has other bands as I wanted a band to play for our cocktail reception. He had some cool sounds on his site, but I wanted something a little different. He recommended this Gypsy Jazz group, they were also so wonderful. Spencer is very professional and courteuos and a wonderful musician. I let him pick the songs to play during our ceremony and they were just right.

My husband and I enjoyed working with Spencer from Sutherland Entertainment for our wedding. He was very responsive and helpful with our questions.

DJ Cody was awesome! Before our wedding, he met with my husband and me at our venue to go over the necessary sound equipment for the space. During the reception, our dance floor was packed the whole night and so many guests commented on our DJ.

Guests loved the photo booth, especially the e-mail feature.

My fiancee and I booked Spencer for our wedding reception at the Park Chalet restaurant at the recommendation of the event manager there.

After checking up on several other DJs, we picked Spencer because he offered a well defined service and seemed quite professional. Sure, i could have saved a few bucks by renting my own speakers, bringing an ipod, and putting one of my friends in charge of making sure the tunes kept coming but with Spencer, all of this was taken care of for us.

I'm no music guy but I definitely appreciated the service and professionalism Spencer offered. Via his website, we sent him a list of music we wanted played (mostly 80s at the request of my wife), a list of music that we didn't want played (chicken dance and all of the cheezy wedding standards), and list of people to speak and times. Spencer called me to confirm the pronounciation of names, double check the schedule, and then took care of the rest. I didn't have to worry about anything else and my guests did appreciate the energy he brought to the dancing and drinking after dinner.

Best part of the night? I didn't have to hear the chicken dance once.

Spencer is the coolest! The greatest thing is that he is not your typical DJ... he isn't shouting over the mic or playing cliches. He sticks to what you request and is able to read a room and deliver the right song to keep the party going. Spencer had his work cut out for him with our diverse, yet small, wedding party- lots of different age groups, lots of different requests, and lots of personalities. But, somehow he was able to keep us ALL dancing, and he stuck to respecting us as a couple and playing what we wanted to hear.

His skills on the guitar are unbelievable, as well. It was the perfect accompaniment to our Napa nuptials. He set the atmosphere with his Spanish guitar and provided something different for us and our quests than the typical songs you hear at most events. We highly recommend using Spencer for your event- ceremony music or as a DJ!!

Great DJ Wedding Experience

Sutherland Entertainment did a great job for our wedding at Cavallo Point in Sausalito. Owner Spencer Sutherland works with various DJs and we had Cody, who did a fantastic and flawless experience for us mixing a wide variety of music.

I worked with Spencer to arrange mic service and have Justin play guitar for our outdoor ceremony. Communication before the event was professional and Spencer's replies to my emails were prompt. They also were responsive to our wedding coordinator which was great. For the day of the ceremony, Justin set up mic service in a timely manner which was important as we had a very short time for set up. He played guitar beautifully and on cue. I wouldn't change a thing!

Advice for couples would be to use Sutherland Entertainment!

My husband and I hired Spencer Sutherland to play the acoustic guitar for our ceremony. We also requested two songs we wanted him to play specifically for our wedding, which were not on his standard play list so he charged us extra for those two specific songs. What he charged us was more than what we expected, but in the end, the songs worked out beautifully in our ceremony. Spencer is a very talented musician.

Spencer had a lot of challenges on our wedding day! Our venue had many noise constraints because of its proximity to homes. Spencer was extremely professional when working with the venue staff and staying within the limits. We also got a very late start with the dancing, so some of the songs we requested got cut out. I was disappointed, but I understand that he had to work with the time he was given. He apologized the next morning for not getting to all our songs. We were very pleased with his professionalism and would definitely hire Spencer again!

Spencer performed at our wedding at Oceano Hotel (Half Moon Bay) in August. Overall, his role as a guitarist was well received by all and the music sounded beautiful. He was very organized and professional at all times. As a DJ, I would have to report that he was our least favorite of all of the vendors. After I created the "must play" list for our reception, I found that he played a number of songs not on our list that didn't go over so well with the crowd (dance floor empty). I expected that he could read the crowd better than I, however, his songs did not necessarily bring people out to dance (which begged the question as to why he wasn't playing any of our requested songs at that time). In addition, many people had requested songs and later came up to me to report that he refused to play these songs (sometimes indicating that I didn't want those songs played-untrue). For the record, I did not have any songs on my "do not play" list. Some guests were not very happy with him. I had also requested that he announce two of my guests' anniversaries during dinner. Spencer did not want to do this and recommended that he hand me the microphone to announce it myself (which I preferred not to do). When I inquired about the announcement he reported back that he had done so, however, not one of our guests even heard the announcement, especially the intended guests. In addition, I had made note in my paperwork that we may want to extend our reception for 1 hour (to 11pm), yet at 10pm he played the last song and shut down without ever contacting us first. The dance floor was packed at the time and by the time the song ended, he had taken off his equipment and was starting to wrap up. We were pretty disappointed and would have definitely kept the party going for another hour had he checked in with us.
