My initial interactions with Superior were outstanding. Their pricing was reasonable and their responsiveness was indeed superior to other companies, Marilyn was incredible and very sweet. She showed true understanding and flexibility, immediately updating my invoice as I added, removed, and changed items. The items provided were of great quality and the rentals really pulled everything together.
The day of the wedding left much to be desired. Layout instructions for the crew were nearly impossible with a significant language barrier. While my spouse and I vehemently champion cultural diversity and equality, I found it odd that they would send an entire crew men without ensuring at least one member could understand our directions. I imagine the crew experienced similar frustrations on their end.
I knew placing a dance floor on grassy terrain would prove problematic, however Superior assured me that the sub flooring would provide a sturdy foundation for our guests. The initial set up was so wildly unsteady we were ready to have it removed all together for safety reasons. Because the crew could not understand our concerns we had to contact a supervisor who could relay our message. Thankfully we were able to convince the team to try again. The second attempt was admittedly better than the first, however the floor remained dangerously uneven leading at least 4 guests to fall during the reception (although I cannot claim definitively that alcohol did not play a role in the later falls).
After the dance floor and lighting were in place. The team unloaded the remainder of rental items onto the lawn (chairs, tables, napkins, glasses, chargers, etc) then began to head out. My day of coordinator was confused as they made their way to the truck. When she told them we had arranged for delivery AND set up they shrugged and continued to the truck. She contacted superior who informed her that the set up we paid for only included dance floor and lighting. Because we did not specify set up of tables, chairs and place settings, they did not include it in the final invoice. To be fair they did ask at the end of an email with several other questions, if it wanted set up for everything. Although I responded to the other questioned I must have missed that essential question so I never responded to it and no one confirmed this with me. When I saw “set up and delivery” on my invoice I assumed I was covered and never thought to question any further.
I spoke with a superior representative who informed me I could add the set up service for an additional few hundred dollars which I would need to authorize immediately. I would have been okay with this addition a few months ago when we were still balancing our wedding budget, but the day of my wedding?
I was in tears as I looked out over the lawn strewn with rental items for a 100 guest ceremony and reception (210 chairs!). I couldn’t imagine how I would put it all together. I don’t know what I would’ve done if my fiancé’s wedding party hadn’t decided last minute to get ready on site instead of at the hotel. They sprung into action as I contacted family members staying locally to come help. It took every free hand and an entire day to complete the set up effectively putting a damper on the pre wedding/getting ready fun. Family members continued working while the photographer took pictures of the bridal parties, when it was the family’s turn the party took over.
I don’t know how we did it, but we made it happen.
As stated above, the rental items were excellent quality, excluding the dance floor which I would caution against if your venue is on grass. The team was extremely responsive and flexible. Pricing is reasonable but I would suggest you communicate specific expectations lest you face a day-of panic attack like I did. I will accept full blame in overlooking the email inquiring about set up but I do think someone should have confirmed this with me before assuming I did not want it. Delivery and pick up team were prompt and hardworking.
