Summit Strings – quartet played at my daughter’s wedding in April 2019 at Sorella Farms.
The string quartet played 30 minutes before the wedding – during the wedding and during the cocktail hour after the wedding while the family was getting pictures taken. Steve was wonderful to work with before the wedding and the whole quartet sounded wonderful. The day was cool – 58 degrees – and they had to keep tuning for the beautiful music. The reason we chose Summit Strings was because they had a beautiful and complete music list. From classical to more contemporary music – my daughter was able to choose music that she wanted to hear during her special day. They played “What a Wonderful World” as the family and friends came down the aisle and “A Thousand Years” as my daughter walked down the aisle. It was a magical moment – I will never forget. Summit Strings was an integral part of making the day beautiful and memorable – and I would hire them again for any occasion.

We had Steve Holman on the guitar and Joy Pritz on the violin from Summit Strings to play for our wedding ceremony prelude, the ceremony itself, and the cocktail hour. They provided amplification which worked nicely. They were also very accommodating to our song requests. I even had a specific song they hadn’t done before for the groom to walk out to, and they found the sheet music for it and did wonderfully playing it without a hitch. I, of course being the bride, didn’t get to hear any of the prelude, but the music I did hear was beautiful and, granted I wasn’t listening for any, I never heard any hiccups. Everything was so smooth and made for the perfect, elegant background music during cocktail hour. They are quite versatile with the ability to play more traditional songs as well as more modern songs. If I ever had questions throughout the planning process, I could just text or email Steve and he got back promptly each time. They both were very friendly once I finally got to meet them in person, as well! Overall, a great experience and all for a very reasonable price! -

Wedding event
I hired Summit Strings to play at an outdoor wedding in Western NC. The day ended up being rainy and the road was muddy and partially washed away. Steve “came through” for us and arrived, even before the wedding party, set-up and ready to play! The music was beautiful and really made the event special. I highly recommend Summit Strings for your event! -

Violin and Cellist Duo
Summit Strings did an amazing job performing at our wedding! We wanted to do something unique at our ceremony and were thrilled when we found them. We ended up having the string duo (violin and cellist!) Throughout the entire process, they were quick to respond and were very accommodating with the songs I requested be played. Having them there provided a sweet, personal touch to our ceremony and our guests could not stop raving about how great they were! They were even willing and able to provide equipment for our officiant to use!

My husband and I reached out to Summit Strings to play at our wedding day in May 2025, and I am so glad that we did! The music for the ceremony was absolutely beautiful! There was a major windstorm the day of our wedding, but Steve and the other musicians improvised and made it work to play for our outdoor ceremony. Looking back and watching our wedding video, everything sounded so beautiful. And they were even willing to learn a new piece for our wedding that I requested as a surprise for my husband shortly before our wedding day. The quartet was professional, and the communication prior to our day was helpful and timely. Thank you again for making our wedding day even more special! I highly recommend Summit Strings for anyone looking for musicians for their wedding or other special event. -

As the chief organizer for my College group’s 50th anniversary reunion gathering in Blowing Rock, NC *and environs*, I pushed to have live music for our two more formal dinners in the area. My decision quickly put me in touch with Steve Holman and the Summit Strings.
The price was right for my folks to contract for a violin with cello for the first night’s dinner at an Italian restaurant; and, a fiddle with guitar for our final night’s dinner at a traditional home style restaurant.
While I left the general theme of the two restaurants determine the song list played, there were also some requests that were easily fulfilled based on a quick glance at internet scores. The volume and acoustics at both locations was perfect. All 35 or so of our celebrating guests were delighted by our choice to have a musical accompaniment at our two dinners.
I highly recommend Steve Holman and the Summit Strings if you want to lend a very high degree of classy musical entertainment to your similar event in the Western NC area that they cover. Steve and Joy were exceptionally talented, unobtrusive, and hit the sweet spot on pricing.
Check the Summit Strings out! You’ll be happy you did. So will your guests! -

We had such a wonderful experience with Summit Strings! They played for our pre-ceremony, ceremony, and cocktail hour, and truly elevated the atmosphere of our entire day. Not only are they incredibly talented musicians, but they were also so easy to work with from start to finish.
They graciously accommodated all of our requests for each part of the event — including a very special song my husband wrote for our recessional, which meant the world to us. Our guests couldn’t stop raving about the beautiful music throughout the day!
Great value, amazing quality, and a group I would absolutely hire again. Highly recommend them to anyone looking to add an elegant, personal touch to their wedding or event! -

Global Health Outreach Team Leader Conference
Each year, we look for local musicians to entertain our guests during a formal dinner provided at our annual team leader conference. We had around 100 people from across the nation in attendance at our dinner on December 6, 2024. Our staff and conference guests were completely blown away by the quality of music and professionalism provided by Summit Strings. The musicians were not only extremely talented, but entertaining and interactive with the audience as well. I highly recommend hiring Summit Strings for your next event. -

Everything was perfect for my wedding. As a wedding planner I have worked with so many vendors, but I have never worked directly with wedding entertainment. SS made it so easy for me. I sent them the songs I wanted played and different events of the wedding, preceremony, ceremony, cocktail hour and reception and they nailed it. My guest loved the lived musicians and it created such a timeless, romantic, and elegant atmosphere as opposed to a DJ or Band. Then we just created a dancing playlist for the rest of the evening. We hired Summit Strings for our wedding at Twickenham House and Hall in Jefferson, NC in July, 2023. Their quality of service, responsiveness, professionalism, value, and flexibility were 5 out of 5! All of our guests raved about the ceremony music and I am very thankful to Steve and his team for making it all happen and working hard for the songs I requested. They even found a stellar vocalist to sing Stand by Me and WOW was he amazing...everyone was amazed by his voice and how he was captivating. Great Rehearsal Dinner Music
Summit Springs provided great music and enhanced our cocktail hour and dining experience. They played a full two hours and played music requested beautifully and dressed appropriately for the formal dinner. The duo added to entire weekend and proved well worth the dollars spent. Live music of this quality elevated the evening and added to the wedding weekend. We were 100% pleased with the music played. They were punctual, talented and classy in every way. -

They braved a chilly day, truly going above and beyond to make our engagement day one we will never forget. Top Notch String Quartet
Perfect String quartet for our wedding! Great mix or modern and classic songs to choose from! Steve worked with me on many special Hymns sung during the service. We needed these hymns played in certain ways with different rhythms and accents and Steve accommodated it all! They showed up on time and played beautifully. Summit Strings Quartet played at our granddaughter’s wedding on July 31, 2021 at the Labyrinth on the campus of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Wilkesboro, NC. The quartet quartet played a 30 minute prelude, the bridal procession, Bist du bei mir between the readings, and the recessional. It was a pleasure to work with Mr. Holman prior to the ceremony and the whole quartet sounded wonderful. Their music choices are exceptional and they only enhanced Hailey’s magical say. Outstanding Performance ... and Music at it's Best!
We had originally hired Steve for our wedding on May 30th 2020, however due to COVID we had to postpone. Steve was wonderful and worked with us to ensure that we could transfer everything to our new date! He was excellent with communication throughout the entire process and he over-delivered on everything. We had only booked Steve as a solo Cello ... but he went above and beyond ...giving us a Duo... at no extra charge...on top of ....rescheduling because of COVID. He and Katie WOWED all of our guests. Their passion and talent truly added to our magical day and we would highly recommend him for any special event! -

The entire Summit Strings experience before and during my event was perfect. Steve was great to deal with, responded quickly and provided a contract within 24 hours. The value he provided to the event was magical. I held a small women's retreat and at one point I thought his music would be too extravagant for the type of event. I am so glad I did not follow that feeling and proceeded with having two musicians during dinner. It was amazing! The music was absolutely beautiful and to see the surprise on my guest's face was priceless. They played during our diner, both classical as well as popular songs. Seriously, this was the best part of the evening! I would 100% recommend adding them to any event. -

Summit Strings performing at our wedding on the Biltmore Estate
We were privileged to have Summit Strings quartet perform during our daughter’s wedding in mid-October at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville. Their music was wonderful and complemented the beautiful venue. They performed an eclectic mix of music (see list below) which enhanced the atmosphere of the event. Super flexible and great sound
I was an ADHD bride and they were able to come thru despite my procrastination and disorganization during this God awful pandemic. And by came through I mean they learned a song for us, sounded amazing, made it up a steep and muddy hill armed with kitty litter and a golf cart. These guys were awesome and really made the ceremony special. Classy as hell. -

Steve was super easy to work with and added so much to our intimate mountaintop wedding. The weather was a little iffy for our event, but Steve brought his own little white pop-op tent so that the show could go on rain or shine. He accommodated for our event by being willing to work with one of my bridesmaids who sang a solo during the ceremony. He arrived early enough to our venue to set himself up, as well as rehearse with our soloist. We highly recommend Steve! -

Top-Notch Wedding Musicians!
Steve from Summit Strings was extremely flexible with our changing COVID wedding date and was willing to learn a new song we were wanting for our ceremony. He also responded to our many emails very quickly and assured our questions were answered. They arrived early and were set up far in advance to start playing for the early arrivers. Our guests were extremely impressed with their talent and they perfectly executed the songs we had requested. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for live musicians for their wedding to keep the guests entertained and interactive and for a personalized ceremony music experience. -

Music at it's Best!
Wonderful repertoire, played with energy, skill, and heart made for great listening and dancing that everyone enjoyed very much. Their song selection is extraordinary, the classical sound interpreting a wide range of favorite songs (From Bach to the Beatles and Beyond) , many not often heard at parties. They included traditional classical songs too which anchored the sound in its roots. -

I got married at Twickenham House on July 7, 2020. Due to Corona virus, we changed our original date twice. Summit Strings was right there the whole time, super flexible, answered questions quickly, provided a huge variety of songs to choose from, and the string quartet added such a unique, romantic touch to our mountain top wedding- and at a great price! I highly recommend them to any NC bride. -

Amazing artists and great people!
I hired a string duo from Summit Strings to play at my outdoor mountain ceremony and cocktail hour. From the beginning I was impressed by Steve Holman's responsiveness and flexibility. Before I booked Summit Strings he sent me a ton of videos of past performances with string solo, duo, trio, quartet, etc playing a variety of songs so I could get a good idea of their musical abilities. Based off of these examples alone, I was incredibly impressed and hired them right away! Leading up to the big day Steven was great about sending me a huge long list of songs that I could pick and choose from. They had so many song options on there- classical songs, Disney songs, Beatles songs, classic rock songs, traditional hyms, and a bunch of modern music. I had no idea that Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Elvis, Aerosmith, etc would sound so great played by a string duo! And there was even the option for them to learn new songs if I wanted some that weren't on the list they provided. They played beautifully at my wedding, so much so that I had a lot of guests coming up and telling me how great they were! Not only are they fantastically talented musicians, they were also friendly and professional throughout. I cannot recommend Steve Holman and Summit Strings enough! -

Excellent musical choice for our wedding!
Summit Strings performed as a string duo at our wedding in Banner Elk, NC. We could not have been more pleased. Steve was very easy to work with, and when we asked for recommendations for certain musical selections during the ceremony he provided excellent suggestions. We trusted his judgement completely and we were not disappointed.
Our ceremony was outdoors, which can raise a lot of concerns from weather to large groups of people. Steve handled everything with ease. The Summit Strings duo was very professional and extremely talented. Hearing them on their web site does not do them justice, you have to hear them in person. They were truly an essential part of our ceremony and enhanced the event greatly. We were completely satisfied, and would recommend them to anyone. Thank you for helping make our wedding great!

Summit Strings has played several events for myself, my family and friends over the last 3 years. Indoors and outdoors. From parties, serenades and individually commissioned performances to weddings ( their most popular service ).
Every time they have played for me I was impressed by their musicianship, professionalism and versatility. They enjoy
what they do and it really shows.
Their repertoire is wide ranging : from pop tunes, to the traditional and intensely classical ( take a look at the web site www.summitstrings.com ). They can accommodate almost any request -- since so many of these numbers they do so often, the music comes out well-rehearsed, articulate and in perfect tune.
At venues large and small, they do their own sound setup with their own equipment. For outdoor settings they can make the music carry clean and legible across a large crowd, yet can tailor their acoustics to fit into the smallest spaces where intimacy is called for.
Of special note is the group’s leader and organizer Steve Holman, who manages to bring together the best musicians from around the Piedmont and welds them into a cohesive unit whose sound rivals some of the most well-known chamber groups here in the south. As an event organizer you will really appreciate that he is able to muster all this talent and, once arrangements have been made, deliver it on time and on schedule, for the previously agreed-upon price ( which is surprisingly reasonable ).
From my experiences with Summit Strings I believe they will bring good vibes to your event, enhance its’ effectiveness, and leave you with good memories.

Couldn't have asked for better!
I discovered Summit Strings at a wedding I was at last fall and immediately knew they had to be a part of my special day. They went above and beyond for our ceremony. I was in a crunch and needed a violinist within 30 days and Steve called me within an hour to tell me he was actively trying to help me and we booked a violinist within a couple hours after initial contact. He saved the day and Lindsey was amazing the day of our wedding. Immediate responses to texts, questions, emails, etc. They were professional, affordable and friendly. Thank you!
