Love Sugar Plum!!!
Came for the sugar plum fritters, left having ordered our wedding cake!!
We love sugar plum, and their mission. The fairy flavor w raspberry filling was amazing! Our cake was beautiful. Side note:: we did add fresh flowers and a cake topper seen in the photo. -

I’m so happy with my choice in Sugar Plum Bakery. They saw my vision with my cake and executed it perfectly. The cake was so tasty and I’m happy I saved some!!! Everyone loved the cupcakes and dessert tray. Not only was the dessert delicious, Sugar Plum was also flexible with us and picking up our cake. They had no issues with us picking it up later than expected on the day of! Thank you for everything. I can’t wait to eat our leftover slices on our 1 year anniversary. -

Perfect as expected
We all know and love this place for special occasions, but they did a great job for the wedding with a small cake and 125 tiered cupcake display. Out of town guests raved on the quality. -

Cake Purchase with Ease
I went with Sugar Plum Bakery initially just because I love to support a company who supports others. Planning my wedding from Florida, the cake planning was made so easy. I didn’t want anything super complicated and was able to explain what I wanted over the phone. I picked up cake tastings and made my order. I’m a bride-chillaaaaa so this was right up my alley. Our cake was amazing and exactly what we wanted! -

We had a small wedding, 30 guests and had to pick a caterer long distance. We were from VA and familiar with Sugar Plum Bakery but what pushed us to use them was their response to questions, made suggestions based on our wants and went on blind faith of their reputation that the cake/cupcakes would be nice. Well they weren't nice, they were exceptional from looks to taste!!! -

Fantastic cake!
I looked at a number of bakeries, Sugar Plum was not the least expensive (nor the most), but I love that they are a nonprofit and it goes to a good cause. At the tasting, Sugar Plum’s cakes tasted by far the best! We ended up ordering the Sugar Plum Fairy cake, the guests all commented that it was the best wedding cake they had ever had. It also looked great. I had given them two different pictures I found online that I liked, they did a great job copying the two and it looked exactly as I imagined. It was delivered on time and looked great and tasted better. It was a nice touch that the bakery provides a free anniversary cake. -

One of the things that drew us to this vendor was their mission statement. They offer jobs, training, and experience to individuals with developmental challenges. So we knew before even going to our first appointment that it was an establishment with heart.
My only reason in not giving them straight 5-stars across the boards is that they do not have a way to make a consultation appointment electronically. If you send them a request through Wedding Wire or email, the response will be to call for the appointment. They will only make arrangements via phone.
When we arrived for our consultation, they set us up in a private room and gave us some 3-ring binders of past cakes to look through. We'd brought samples of our centerpieces and some internet photos with us, but still took the time to look through their portfolios, too.
We were given samples of the different cake flavors, fillings, and icings to try. The cake samples were a tiny bit dry, which gave me a slight pause, but still tasty. In the end, we decided on the almond cake with almond buttercream icing. We didn't do a filling.
Our wedding was somewhat unique, in that we had two receptions. We invited our entire church congregation to our wedding ceremony and had a reception in the church hall with cupcakes and champagne for everyone who attended. We then had a second reception later that night for family and close friends. The second reception featured dinner and dancing and our formal wedding cake. Sugar Plum planned the cakes for both events.
Both cakes were absolutely GORGEOUS! They were moist and delicious. Everyone was raving about how good they tasted.
For the church hall reception, we wanted to keep it simple. The cake was a cupcake tower of 125 cupcakes, plus a small cake topper for us to cut. We went with a plain swirl design for the icing on both the topper and the cupcakes. There were no other design elements on the cake itself, and the simple design work perfectly. It brought a tear to my eye when I saw how beautiful the table looked when we peaked in before the ceremony.
For our dinner reception later at the hotel, we went with a floating layer design. The four layers of the cake were each on an acrylic stand at a different height. We asked that they incorporate silk dogwood flowers into the design, to make it look like they were cascading down the layers.
Matching white icing was used to add the dogwood branches and leaves. We went with a simple ribbon that was the same color as the icing. No cake topper, but we did hide a few little Disney friends on the back of the cake as something fun for people to find. We complimented the cake table with a cande set that matched the multi-level design of the cake and an arrangement of the same silk flowers.
Our day-of coordinator returned the two rented display pieces the day after the wedding. This caused a little confusion, as it took Sugar Plum a few weeks to figure out they didn't have my credit card information to process the deposit refund. That was straightened out after a few phone calls and has since been credited to my card.
I would absolutely use them again and have no regrets whatsoever about our choice of vendor. I was so happy for not just one perfect cake, but two! (It was so delicious that I'm counting the days until our first anniversary when we can pick up our free extra cake topper for another taste!) -

If I had to say anything negative, it would be that the delivery was late. However, it was delivered in enough time for everyone to make it to the ceremony on time. I would definitely recommend Sugar Plum to everyone. Plus, it's Non-Profit!! -

Molly Sent on 04/12/2013I choose sugar plum for their ethical purposes of hiring and supporting those with disabilities.
Their daily offerings are great (cookies, pastries, coffee) and I hope everyone supports them.
However, I was disappointed with my wedding cake.
It wasn't anything like the model I chose and the color was all wrong.
I don't feel like it was worth $465 for (an almond cake no filling or any fancy detail)
The consult appointment also cost me $25 in which the lady left me alone in the room with 3 slices of cake and 2 fillings- no "consulting" happened. I pointed to a cake model and said "this one".
If you get your cake here- get the mozart cake....it's what they're know for and nothing compares.
But please support small business and those with disabilities..... just don't get Monique for your consult -

Missing cake
I paid $850.68 in May 2023 to have a beautiful cake for my wedding in December. My husband confirmed the day before, it would be delivered to the venue (since we paid 75$ for delivery) and that they would assist with cake toppers going on, since we made them ourselves. My family has already left poor reviews. But honestly everyone we asked recommended this bakery. The venue, other siblings, friends attending. The day came, nothing was delivered. Promptly calling the next morning, my husband and I were completely dismissed, “no record” of our receipt was in their cash register or system. And also absolutely no remorse, apology, or concern was given. Because we ordered so long ago, and naturally are on our honeymoon… getting the receipt was a bit of a task on our part but we got our original. Called back with all the information on it, were given the same stiff response of they can’t find. I demanded to wait till they did, we paid a lot of money for a ruined dessert. After about a 12 minute hold, a new, apologetic, and scared “executive director” came on the line to say this has NEVER happened before that a cake “slipped through the cracks”. So I guess I was just lucky. She offered a “free” 6 inch cake for today, but we don’t have a wedding today. She did offer a “free” 6 inch anniversary cake, to remember we never got a cake the day of. While we understand she was trying to make the situation “right”, nothing about it was. I immediately burst into tears, after an hour on the phone and speaking to multiple different people this was the first apology we got. She offered a refund check, because we ordered SO long ago they couldn’t even do it in the system to the card. Upon going up there to get the check, the check out person said “so did you get it all worked out”…. You mean did we get married? What kind of a question is that?

This is the first time in all the years of Sugar Plum Bakery being in business that this unfortunate event has happened. We are reviewing all our procedures to ensure that it will be the last. We did our best to make it right, although we understand it was not enough. Our apologies if you were offended when you came in to the store.
The associate was trying to offer remorse for the situation because our whole staff was very sorry and felt for how this situation played out. We all understand the importance of a wedding day. Please let us know if we can do anything further to make this situation right. -
