We used sugar and scribe for both our weddings (COVID wedding + post-COVID wedding) and loved them. They were really responsive and communicative. They completely nailed the design I wanted just by going off some pictures I sent them. They were so flexible in the design and asked me plenty of questions to ensure they were designing it exactly how I wanted it (both times).
I ended up wanting the same design for the 2nd wedding but additional tiers and they had absolutely no problem with that. The service was great and they even made an exception to deliver it to my venue even though they were already booked that day and weren't supposed to.
We went with the elderberry flavor because it was so unique and it's not something we'd ever tried before. Everyone we asked really liked it and it was unique to them as well. Highly recommend them for their cakes!
Attached photo is from our 1st wedding and the cake was for 30 people. We definitely didn't go through all of it and we had 32 people. We were all so full from dinner that most of us could barely stuff down cake. -

Loved them!
Since we were doing a morning wedding, we ordered individual layer cakes for each guest to take home as a favor. Everyone here was very helpful and friendly, the mini cakes came out looking great, and everyone raved about how delicious they were. Definitely recommend this company! -

After looking into so many bakeries for our wedding cake and cupcakes, we ultimately were drawn to Sugar & Scribe for their taste, presentation, and overall energy that the S&S team provided! On our initial tasting (nominal $30 fee), Ray helped guide us through their cupcake varieties and work through our vision. You will sample all their current in-house flavors, so come with an appetite. You will also try some seasonal flavors as well- keep in mind if you're tasting for a different season. If you want matching colors, they have all the sprinkles and luster dust you can think of. We weren't too complicated as all we wanted was a semi-nude cake and a couple cupcakes to go with- nothing crazy or anything like that. As the wedding planning ensued, our original vision grew to a tiered cake with over 100 mini cupcakes! When everything unfolded on our wedding day, we cold not express how happy we were to see what Maeve and her team helped create! Our vanilla tiered cake that was reserved didn't last for us as I ate it all, and the chocolate salted caramel and the elderberry cupcakes were a hit with everyone in attendance! Definitely will come back to La Jolla just to visit Sugar & Scribe! -

Michelle Sent on 04/11/2017We loved Sugar + Scribe! For the quality of desserts, we expected to pay top dollar (which would have been worth it), but it was surprisingly AFFORDABLE! Their cakes and desserts are DELICIOUS and BEAUTIFUL, and can also be delivered on the day of the wedding!! We ordered a traditional wedding cake, a specially designed groom’s cake, cupcakes, donuts, and cookies. Our guests raved about how beautiful and tasty everything was. Sugar + Scribe set up the desserts at our reception; everything was perfect and required zero work from us on our wedding day.
We strongly recommend doing the tasting at their store in La Jolla! You get to taste many of their flavors for cake and frosting, and it is an enjoyable experience. We worked with Jade who is friendly and makes the experience a fun one. She will help you decide the perfect flavors and designs to fit your style and guests. You should definitely order your wedding cake and desserts from Sugar + Scribe, you will not be disappointed!!! WE LOVED THEM!!!

Kristen Sent on 10/20/2016The wedding cake and mini-cupcakes were everything that I could have hoped for! Sugar & Scribe truly blew away our guests with the most divine dessert to end a beautiful evening. I was instantly in love with Sugar & Scribe from the first tasting. I have a irrational disgust for the “jelly” fillings that most bakeries use to fill their cakes, and I was so thankful that the chef at Sugar & Scribe did not have this on their tasting menu. Every sample that we tasted was mind-blowing! Which really made it hard to choose which flavors we wanted at our wedding. We went with standard flavors for the guests that may not be as adventurous, but even the “Vanilla Vanilla” and “Chocolate Salted Caramel” were huge hits with everyone. But my surprise favorite was Elderberry – similar to blueberry but creamier and ridiculously velvety. -

Dana Sent on 05/19/2014About a week and a half before the wedding, the original bakery fell through. I called Sugar and Scribe after tasting their delicious cupcakes in store and placed an order for a week later. The next day I actually changed the order from full size cupcakes to mini cupcakes. They had no problem satisfying the change. Everyone LOVED the cupcakes. They were delicious and having the minis made it easy for everyone to try a few.
