Wedding Photographer Captures Brilliant Party Memories

After reviewing Stephen's portfolio, we virtually met with Stephen to discuss our vision for photographing our wedding party. We thought he did a fantastic job capturing the venue's beauty, directing couples poses, managing family photos, and capturing all of our unique moments of our party. We especially loved the way he candidly photographed all of our wedding guests on the dance floor enjoying the night. Stephen provided the edited photos about 1 month after our event and was very responsive to any questions we sent his way. Would highly recommend!

Like many couples--my husband and I are camera shy and NOT photogenic. Stephen proved us wrong. We just got our album back and it seems like every photo surpasses the last one. Professional and relaxed experience!

Stephen and his colleague Jess were top-notch professionals. From our first call with Stephen we knew that he was what we were looking for in a photographer; he was flexible, accommodating, and has a calming demeanor. While the "traditional" family/wedding photos were a must, we emphasized that we wanted to walk away with a lot of candid photos of our friends + family having a blast and being themselves. Stephen listened and based on the preview he sent us, we are pumped to see the full collection!

Highly Recommend!

Stephen was excellent! He was easy to work with throughout the whole process and the photos turned out better than we could have hoped. Stephen photographed our wedding this September. Through the planning process he was responsive and answered all of our questions. The day of, he was thoughtful and intentional and really eased into the background so it didn’t feel awkward. He even started taking photos before he walked in the door! When we got the photos back (very quickly!) it really felt like he captured the day and us, moments big and small. He also put together a beautiful slideshow which was perfect for sharing with friends and family, especially those not able to attend the wedding. We highly recommend working with Stephen for your wedding.

Amazing Photographer

I didn't think I needed a photographer for my wedding. I was looking for candid shots and thought these could be captured by guests. I am SO happy I found Stephen as he was able to capture poignant candid shots in a stunning way that no guests were able to do. He created a gorgeous brief slide show that captured the essence of our day. I feel so fortunate that we were able to have his talents to memorialize our wedding day!

Fantastic Wedding Photographer!!

I hired Stephen because I loved the photos he shot from the previous wedding at the venue we were planning on getting married. Due to COVID, plans changed and Stephen was completely accommodating. We have loved the photos he took of our family only backyard wedding. He captured everything we wanted and surprised us with some photos that were above and beyond what we ever could have imagined.

Perfectly captured magical moments

I'm a former TV reporter, so you can imagine how PICKY I was going to be about choosing a photographer for my wedding! Stephen was perfect. My husband I wanted someone to capture the magical fleeting moments at our wedding, and he NAILED it. He melted into the background and made our guests feel super comfortable. Simply Perfect

Our wedding was a low key affair (courthouse with immediate family). Stephen had photographed a friend's wedding, so when we decided to hire a photographer we immediately reached out to see if he might be free. He was able to arrange his schedule to accommodate us, and we could not be happier he did. He captured so many perfect moments. The photographs are stunning, but the real genius of his work is how he manages to capture the emotions and vibe of an event. That still photographs can radiate so much joy and love is truly remarkable. Not only that, he is incredibly nice and easy to work with. Cannot recommend Stephen highly enough.

Photographs We'll Treasure for a Lifetime

Stephen is truly the best and we can't imagine our wedding day without him. We first met Stephen when he photographed my sister-in-law's wedding 2 years ago and reserving him for our wedding was the first and best decision we made after getting engaged. My sincere advice would be to stop searching for photographers and book Stephen!

Stephen's photos are beyond beautiful and timeless and really capture the emotion of the day. There are SO many photos that take our breath away and each one is better than the last. While his style focuses more on the candid, in-the-moment shots, he is incredibly accommodating about grabbing every group and details shot we wanted. Stephen is a joy to work with and was so conscientious with us both leading up to our wedding and during the entire day. Most of all, he was unobtrusive during all the big wedding moments (nothing worse than the photographer who becomes the main event during the ceremony) but somehow still grabbed every single moment from so many different perspectives. We did the package that included the engagement photo shoot, which I'd highly recommend as a great way to start working with Stephen and start learning what you like most and feeling comfortable in front of the camera. I truly can't recommend Stephen highly enough and am so grateful he captured our special day in a way we'll treasure for a lifetime.

Exceptional; none better; look no further.

We cannot imagine a better wedding photographer exists. Stephen Bobb listened to and delivered exactly what we wanted. He was everywhere without ever being intrusive or taking away from any moment. His traditional and artistic/creative photographs help us re-enjoy our wedding and see how much our guests did too. Communication was prompt, clear, constructive, interactive, stress-free. He is a pro in every sense. I am a tough customer (high standards, expectations) and knew within minutes of our initial meeting he was "it" for us. A Wonderful Experience

Stephen Bobb's tagline is "joyful photography," and that's exactly right. Our wedding photos captured the emotion and fun of the day, and we really appreciate his eye for artistic, memorable, and timeless shots. When we first visited his website, we were both surprised that looking at strangers' photos made us feel so emotional. His work is really special.

From start to finish, Stephen was a joy to work with. He went the extra mile, including conspiring on a mini dog portrait session so that I could surprise my husband with a life-sized cardboard cutout at the wedding. Our wedding week had some unexpected twists, and day of we arrived on site about an hour late, a little harried. Stephen's calm demeanor, and romantic attitude helped us immediately get into the zone and transition to being present for the day. We even squeezed in all of the desired family portraits before the guests arrived. His second shooter, Ashley, was also great and immediately put us at ease. Between the two of them, the final set of photos is really dynamic and wonderful.

We had a pretty casual event-- no wedding parties, garden party vibe, dinner untented on the lawn. Stephen and Ashley were unobtrusive but captured it all, including some really tender and really funny candid moments. The day flew by, but we'll treasure these photos forever. Recommended without reservation!

Stephen and his second photographer did such an amazing job capturing every moment of our wedding. What amazes me every time I look at our photographs, is how much more they are than just pictures. Anyone can snap a picture but it takes so much more to be able to capture the life and emotion Stephen captured in each one. Stephen did the photos for our wedding, and we loved his work so much that we wanted to have him back 5 years later to photograph our daughter’s milestone event. The event was in 2 parts -- first in my parents’ home, and then a lunch for a large crowd. Stephen is friendly and a gentleman, and there is no one else I would want among my family and friends to record the intimate, important moments in our lives.

And the photos! He caught every great moment I saw, and many I didn’t. Stephen took all his photos without ever getting in the way. Somehow he managed to never intrude, but always be in a great spot. The day was a bit of a blur, but thanks to Stephen we can relive the happiness whenever we like. The photos are artistic and poignant, and I am so, so glad he was there with us on such an important day.

Stephen was amazing! I’m writing this review 3 years after our wedding... so I feel it is imperative to specify how significant that is. It means his photographs illicit the memories of our special day, they captured not just a catalog of events, but the mood and emotion. We chose Stephen because we didn’t want the cliche staged photos, we wanted something more raw and real. His photos years later remind us of exact conversations and moments throughout our wedding. Also, I’ll note we did a surprise wedding (everyone thought it was just the engagement party) and Stephen did a phenomenal job capturing the experience as our guests realized the truth. I would have paid anything for the quality photos we received, but Stephen’s prices are more than reasonable.

We just got our photos back and WOW we are so very happy with how they turned out. I had initially reached out to Eli Turner for wedding photos and he recommended Stephen Bobb. We had met with several other photographers that just didn't have what we wanted--their photos felt stiff and staged and sad. We didn't want a videographer so we wanted a photographer that really captured all the moments of the day/night. Stephen did just that and was also an absolute pleasure to work with! I'm trying to decide now which photos to have printed and there are SO many good ones I don't even know where to begin!!

We wish we could give Stephen 5,000 stars! He was fantastic to work with from the beginning of our wedding planning process, to shooting our engagement photos, to helping us organize all the photos we wanted taken at our wedding, through the wedding day itself. We knew our wedding photos would be absolutely stunning after seeing our gorgeous engagement photos, but we were still blown away by his ability to capture pure moments of joy and all the other emotions expressed on our, our family’s, and our guests’ faces throughout the night. All of our family and friends have said they’ve never seen such beautiful wedding photos, a sentiment with which we resoundingly agree. Not only are the photos true works of art, but Stephen also was wonderful to work with and a true professional. He was happy to reschedule our engagement shoot with just a few hours notice when the forecast changed and it suddenly was pouring. Stephen was so great to work with. Stephen and his assistant/partner Erin were all over the place in a good way. From the photos of my wife and her bridesmaids getting ready to me and my groomsmen laughing it up, they were there for every shot. They captured so much emotion from the evening and this is one instance where pictures can really tell you how the entire night went. I loved how he gave us very little direction when taking our couple shots. He let us be us and really let our love shine through and it shows through our photos. Last but not least the reception photos were so amazing. He captured the emotional speeches and the moments on the dance floor so seamlessly.

My husband and I had the pleasure of having our wedding photographed by Stephen in September, and we were so pleased with our experience (and the photos!). After lots of online research and a recommendation from our wedding coordinator, we contacted Stephen in late January and knew from that phone call that we wanted him to photograph our wedding. He was friendly, easy to talk to, concisely described his experience and style, and answered all our questions. As others have stated, his style is very photojournalistic, and we often wondered how he and his co-photographer that day (Andrea) got so many great pictures without being noticed (many of our family and friends commented on this too). His style is also very clever and whimsical (without being cutesy), and he obviously takes great care to capture real moments and emotions. During the year, he worked with us to determine our schedule for the day of the wedding, helped us narrow down our “must-have” pictures, and made many thoughtful and helpful suggestions. The day of the wedding he was prompt, calm, prepared for the weather (it rained, so our outdoor wedding was moved indoors last minute), and got all the pictures we wanted. We received a preview of our pictures a few weeks after the wedding while we were on our honeymoon (via Facebook) and it was such a nice surprise to see so many beautiful pictures to remind of us our special day while we were abroad. When we received our thumb drive of all the pictures, Stephen sent the drive in a beautiful wooden box with one of our pictures etched on the front! He also sent us handwritten (!) thank you notes – one for when we signed our contract, and the other when he sent the final product. It is these examples of going above and beyond that really sets Stephen apart (in addition to his phenomenal photography), and we would recommend him to anyone who wants a special time in their lives captured beautifully!

My fiance and I hired Stephen for our engagement photos and our wedding day. From first contact everything went smoothly. Stephen answered all my questions in a timely manner and even made recommendations for shooting locations. It rained on the day our engagement photos and rescheduling wasn't a option due to the fact I had my make up professionally done and our schedule didn't allow it. Stephen made it look as if the rain was apart of our shoot. My mother had an umbrella that we were able to work into a few shots. We loved our photos! What I loved is that we were able to be ourselves, none of that pose, click, pose. We interacted as we normally would and Stephen captured some really great moments. Stephen Bobb has been the photographer for both of my daughter's weddings. He is an amazing professional and manages to capture all the candid moments that make the wedding day memorable. He is completely unobtrusive yet snaps the best photos that bring the events of the day to life every time you look at them. He doesn't force "gimmicky" or trendy shots but will honor requests for specific activities or locations. For instance, my daughter got married on 7/11 and he took some amazing shots of the wedding party with their free slurpies at a 7/11 store. Silly, maybe, but it made the bride and groom happy. I highly recommend Stephen Bobb to any prospective engaged couple.

Every time we look at our wedding photos, we can't help but always have giant smiles on our faces. From our first meeting with Stephen, we were convinced that he had to shoot our wedding. He never once gave us a sales pitch. He was just sincere, told us some about his background as a photo journalist and how he likes to apply those principles to shooting weddings in order to 'tell the story of your day'. We engaged Stephen as our wedding photographer and are extremely satisfied with his work. First, his photographs are gorgeous--they really do capture the joy that we experienced that day. We were able to work with him to think through specific shots that we were hoping to get, but by and large Stephen just took pictures throughout and capture a lot of in-the-moment action shots (which we really like a lot). Second, he was extremely flexible with time--we had a courthouse wedding and our first date was snowed out, and Stephen was very flexible and able to reschedule with us. He was also generally very responsive--there was 1 time we didn't hear back from him for a day or so, but very very minor. After the wedding, the photos were back to us in about 3 weeks. Overall, we're very satisfied with Stephen and his work and would definitely recommend him to others (or work with him again for other special events).

Stephen Bobb took our wedding photos last month, and he did a fantastic job. He was quick and easy to work with, and had a great sense of humor. He truly has an eye for real moments, and managed to take at least one great candid of EVERY person in our wedding party, parents and siblings. Stephen has a fantastic eye and gets beautiful shots that are filled with love but aren't sappy! They're sophisticated and somehow homey at the same time. A tough feat to pull off! We love Stephen and hope to work with him again!! I can't recommend him highly enough.

We cannot say enough good things about Stephen. First and foremost, we adore our wedding photos. He (and his wonderful assistant, Kim) took a great combination of portraits and candids. Our photos are joyful, crisp, and vibrant. Stephen edits his photos quickly too -- he delivered all of the files within a month or so of our wedding. Several friends and relatives have remarked to us that Stephen's wedding photography is the best they've ever seen.

Stephen is also just a nice guy. We found him to be a breath of fresh air on an otherwise hectic day. He was prompt, he was kind, he was calm, and he was hardworking. And unlike many wedding vendors, he was exceptionally responsive in the months leading up to the wedding.

Do yourself a favor and book him today! (We booked him a full year in advance!) We promise his services are worth every penny. In fact, we feel like it's the best money we spent in the entire wedding planning process!

Stephen was a pleasure to work with. My husband and I looked through tons of photographers and couldn't be happier that we picked him. He has great attention to detail, has a good eye for posed shots but also catches the emotions and feelings of the day. There are a lot of pictures I didn't even realize he was around for and caught on camera. His assistant, Kim, was also wonderful! I'd definitely recommend him to anyone. Can't wait to get our photo album!!

Good photography is very important to me. For our wedding, photography was at the top of my priority list. When I was looking at venue pictures online, Stephen Bobb's photos of the Carnegie Institution were what sold me on getting married there. I looked at those photos repeatedly online and was thrilled when I learned Stephen was able to shoot our wedding.

Working with Stephen was wonderful. He reached out before the wedding to understand exactly what photos we wanted and then he made sure that he got all of our most-wanted shots during the wedding. At the wedding, he and his assistant did a wonderful job taking candid shots unobtrusively. We are so happy with the way the photos came out. They are beautiful. Plus, I love Stephen's tag line: Joyful wedding photography. Who doesn't want that?

We absolutely love Stephen Bobb's work -- you can feel the joy captured in all of the moments of our wedding day. An overseas friend commented, "It looks as if you hired the best photographer in the western hemisphere. We are really impressed and fascinated to be able to take part in your festivities like this." We feel the same way -- he and his 2nd photographer are worth every penny.

Stephen Bobb was the first vendor we contacted, and the last -- we had so must trust in his abilities (he had previously shot a friend's wedding so impressively) that we forgot to discuss the shotlist until days before the wedding. We weren't looking for a ton of formally posed photos, and his photojournalistic style really captures moments with a sense of awe and wonder.

Since he has worked with so many of the best vendors in the DC area, Stephen was also a great resource early on in suggesting venues, wedding coordinators, etc. He kept checking in with us and was very gracious about negotiating down services to meet our budget (we eventually added those services back in as our budget allowed).

After the wedding, we received our first 'sneak peak' photo within about 12 hours. We were absolutely amazed by the promptness as well as the quality. People constantly asked us, "Wow-- where is this? This is absolutely gorgeous!" A few weeks later, Stephen emailed us a Facebook album with the top 100 photos so we could share with family and friends. Two months after the wedding, we were able to view all the photos online to order, and received a beautiful woodcut USB drive with high-resolution quality files.

As a former wedding photographer and a network TV professional, I was extra critical of hiring a talented photographer to capture our 'rustic' winery wedding -- but Stephen Bobb went above and beyond. If you can afford it, hire him as soon as you can!

We really enjoyed working with Stephen Bobb. His photos are a wonderful combination of great spontaneous shots that capture the emotion of the event as well as lots of family and couple portraits that we'll treasure forever. Stephen is a pleasant, friendly guy. He was very interested in what we wanted. During the wedding, he must have been everywhere but he and his assistant never came out of the background.

Stephen and his assistant, Kim, were all that we could have asked for in a photographer. They were extremely accommodating and worked with us to make sure the day worked exactly as we pictured. They were professional, personable, efficient, and enthusiastic throughout the day. What we liked most about Stephen was the way he is able to capture every special moment during the day without being intrusive. When the pictures came we were in complete awe of his work. They perfectly captured the emotion of the day and were absolutely beautiful. I would HIGHLY recommend him to anyone.

This review may be a bit atypical because I had the pleasure of working with Stephen Bobb to photograph not my wedding or an engagement session, but my proposal itself. It may also have been the first time that Stephen was photographing a proposal and he executed it flawlessly. As important as his quality photography was his discretion! Everything went as planned and she suspected nothing -- and she said yes!
When I was planning for the proposal, I wanted a photographer to capture it. I knew I wanted to propose in Annapolis and I surveyed the work of a number of local photographers and liked Stephen's work immediately. He was cooperative, reasonable, professional and responsive. There were a few parts to the proposal that had to happen in a set sequence, so I wanted to meet with Stephen and a cellist who also would be involved (the proposal included a surprise cello serenade). Stephen took the time to meet with the cellist and me a couple of weeks before the proposal and was great at helping me work through some of the details.
When we approached the agreed rendezvous, I saw Stephen from the corner of my eye, but he did not make himself seen -- crucially important at that moment because that would have given it away! Stephen managed to capture the whole cello serenade, my proposal and her acceptance beautifully. My then-fiancée and I spent an hour with Stephen around Annapolis capturing some excellent photos. Stephen was great at balancing his own creativity (which itself is superb) with making our creative ideas into reality.
We could not have been more pleased with the results. And he did a great thing by giving us a sample of the photos within two days. He provided us with a sequence of photos that we could share with family and friends and it was nice to be able to share the photos so soon after the event. His photography is exceptional and I recommend him strongly.

The most important vendor selection for me was our photographer. Pictures are forever and I wanted to be sure that we selected someone that would really capture the day for us and also someone that we would enjoy spending the entire day with. I found that photographer in Stephen Bobb. I saw photos Stephen had taken of another wedding at our venue (Hotel Monaco, where he is a preferred vendor), so I reach out and set up our initial meeting. I had multiple appointments set up with potential photographers, but after meeting with Stephen I canceled the remaining appointments – I knew we had found our photographer. Not only are his photographs beautiful but he is a joy to work with. The package he offers covers everything you need and isn’t overpriced. Every email or phone call with Stephen was professional and helpful. We took our engagement pictures by the Tidal Basin and on Capitol Hill. Stephen was able to get some amazing photos that made it look like we were the only ones at these locations, even though there were people everywhere. On the day of our wedding, Stephen and his second shooter Andrea showed up on time and ready to shoot. We got all the photos we needed at the hotel before walking to the church. Stephen and Andrea hung tough as we made our way through pedestrian packed sidewalks and crossed busy streets, getting amazing shots along the way. We even arrived at the church early because things were going so smoothly! Stephen made a point to get all the shots I’d specifically asked for (and so many more), but I never felt like I had paparazzi with me. Stephen was just quietly there capturing every moment. The whole day was fun and relaxed and I’m glad Stephen was there every step of the way. We recently got the whole set of photos and couldn’t be happier! They are so so so lovely, and bring back such special memories of our wedding day. I look forward to having Stephen capture many more milestones in our life in the future.

Stephen’s photography is stunning. His color and black and white photos captured the emotions and stories of the day. His candid photos free you from self-conscious posing that can mask the true happiness of the day. When we look at Stephen’s photos, our memories of a year of stressful wedding planning melt away. All that remains is pure joy.

He has an instinct for what is important, even in unfamiliar circumstances. He caught all of the details in the Hindu and Christian ceremonies that were important to our families. And given the logistics of the set-change in between the two ceremonies, he had to work incredibly fast. Despite the need for speed, he captured all the things that made our ceremonies unique.

Stephen is a pleasure to work with. We loved meeting him when we were looking for a photographer, and our subsequent communications with him were easy and mellow -- a welcome contrast to some other aspects of our wedding planning. He was completely amenable to all of our requests, even when we asked him to avoid the “standard” wedding shots. He is easy-going and flexible and we cannot recommend him enough. We hope to have another opportunity to benefit from his artistry and skill.

We hired Stephen Bobb Photography to photograph our wedding and it proved to be the smartest decision we made through the entire planning process. My husband and I are simply blown away with the images from our wedding - when we saw the photographs for the first time were moved to tears. Stephen and his team are true artists. We never thought our wedding would look like something out of a magazine but it does. But most importantly he captured the true emotion of that day - something that people who weren't able to attend can feel as well (they were moved to tears as well.) For the rest of our lives we will look back on these images and instantly be able to feel everything we felt on that day. We will cerish these forever. Working with Stephen was a breeze and easily the least stressful part of planning the wedding.

We hired Stephen when he was still with Love Life Images, but I wanted to give him credit on here for his amazing work. Stephen's pictures are real. He documented our wedding day like I remembered it. Our wedding guests were commenting on how stealth and "ninja-like" he was because they didn't even realize he was there taking pictures. We are so happy with our pictures and can't wait to get our album so we can relive our special day over and over.

I am delighted to be writing the first Wedding Wire review for Stephen Bobb. Stephen was my wedding and engagement session photographer. My now-husband and I fell in love with his work while browsing through wedding albums at our venue, Bluemont Vineyard. Stephen Bobb's photographs make you feel like you're in the room with the subject. He has an incredible eye and a distinct style. Also, he is a very nice person to work with and be around. Our wedding photos are spectacular, I highly recommend looking at his work on his photography blog.
