I cannot say enough about Steele Hill and how amazing our wedding was. A little over a year ago, my husband and I decided we had to be married in the lakes region of NH - we are avid hikers, vacation there in the summer, and were engaged on Winnipesaukee. Knowing we had a lot of decisions to make and a lot of options to explore, we began our search for the perfect venue. We both fell in love with Steele Hill immediately. It had absolutely everything we wanted: an amazing view of Winnisquam and surrounding mountains where we could have an outdoor ceremony, plenty of rooms for our guests to stay the weekend, but most importantly it had Penny. Planning a wedding is so stressful, but planning a wedding with Penny was an absolute pleasure. She was right there with me for every step of the process, had all of the right answers, and made me feel comfortable with every decision we made. At this point, I don't know how anyone plans a wedding without her. Day of, her staff was equally amazing, the bartenders were friendly, the food was incredible and everything went perfectly. My guests still cannot stop talking about how amazing Steele Hill is, and how they want to come back and stay for a weekend. I recommend Steele Hill and Penny to any bride and groom looking to get married in NH.Sent on 10/05/2016

My husband and I got married at Steele Hill in June of this year and it was absolutely amazing!! The venue is wonderful, the views are spectacular(our ceremony was outside and all our guests kept telling us how breathtaking the view was!), & Penny is amazing!! From the moment we met Penny, she was always so bubbly and wonderful with answering all of our questions through the planning process! Literally, the entire staff was super friendly & attentive through out our whole wedding. The food was delicious! One of our guests asked for the recipe for the potatoes au gratin, he loved them so much! We are still being told how great the food was and just how much fun the entire wedding was! My husband and I had such a great experience! I definitely recommend Steele Hill to anyone looking for a venue with a gorgeous view and amazing staff!Sent on 10/06/2016

Steele Hill was the perfect location for my wedding ceremony and reception. From start to finish everything was absolutely perfect. Larry handled all the little details for me so I could relax and enjoy the day. The food was amazing and I could not imagine a better place for an outdoor ceremony. Everyone was extremely helpful and friendly. I would recommend this location to anyone particularly if you are looking for one place to have both the ceremony and reception as well as a place for your guests to stay. The price was reasonable and well worth every penny.Sent on 11/21/2011

My husband and I chose 3 function halls to look at for our wedding. Steele Hill being the 3rd hall, I had already decided on a different hall, until Penny walked us into the Hilltop Room. The wall of windows and the stunning view hooked us almost immediately. And everything else fell into place. Penny was so attentive and so quick to respond to all of my emails. She made us feel like we were the only ones having a function at the hotel. She helped me to coordinate all of our vendors, which was incredibly helpful, especially because they all know her name! We loved having our welcome dinner with all of our friends and family the night before our wedding. The Carriage House and the Hilltop Room were set up perfectly for our ceremony and reception. Everyone still talks about how amazing the food was the whole weekend. The staff at the wedding reception, all the servers and the bartenders, were incredible and very professional.Sent on 09/24/2017
We truly enjoyed our wedding weekend at Steele Hill, and there were a few items we found challenging. The first was the hotel had a 2-night minimum hotel stay for guests, which made it difficult for some of our guests. Additionally, we had our wedding ceremony in the Carriage House which was really beautiful and super cool, but the number of people allowed in the Carriage House is much lower than the number of people allowed in the Hilltop Room. This limits the number of people on the guest list.
We had an amazing winter wedding in February 2017 and the photographs are just incredible with the view from the Hilltop Room. We are so glad we chose to have our wedding at Steele Hill and plan to go back each year to celebrate our anniversary!!

I had an amazing experience with Steele Hill! The entire planning process was so easy because Penny (event coordinator) answered every email and phone call immediately. I sent her emails with lists of ten or so questions and/or requests and she responded with a cheery smile. When it came down to the actual wedding, every staff (bartenders, wait staff, Penny, Renee, Jill, etc) went above and beyond to make sure every detail came out exactly how I imagined it!Sent on 11/11/2016
There were a few surprise rules I hadn't anticipated that caught me off guard but would probably be present for any venue (i.e. no glitter, wedding party responsible for decorating ceremony space). Early on in our meetings though Penny made sure that these expectations were clear. She also did everything she could to accodate other requests we had.
As far as value, Steele Hill was an excellent choice. Our guests the next morning commented so much about how they loved the venue. They loved the mountain/lake view, the food, and the fact that everything was walkable.

At the end of the day, my wedding was 100 on a scale of 1 to 10 .We ended up working with 3 different wedding coordinators during our planning process. In the end, we got Penny and couldnt be more thankful for her. She is ridiculously responsive, supportive and nurturing. Several things that our previous planners had told us would happen weren't able to, but Penny would ask what we wanted to get out of what we had planned and helped us come up with something we could do that would achieve what we wanted. She was there to handle all our panicked calls all the way until she smoothed my train and veil for my walk down the aisle. when you are the bride it means everything. We had an amazing bartender who made the perfect shot for my bridesmaids and I ( I never take shots so he went easy) The waitstaff was also so wonderful. After our rehearsal dinner (which was also on site) all of our favorite people went to the pool to drink and celebrate amazing. Our ceremony was in the carriage house and I've never seen anything more beautiful. I can't tell you how many people came up and told us it was the most beautiful ceremony space they had ever seen. Food was amazing, Penny was beyond amazing and there wasn't one thing that I would change.Sent on 01/03/2015
The negatives were few: Two night minimum for guests made a lot of our guests stay off site. Late check in and early check out was tough. There was some back and fourth with fees that had been agreed upon being waived then being charged. We went with the house DJ. He did a great job, but did go a little off our requested song choices. He also played the wrong version of our first dance song (right song, wrong version). He was great overall and no one but me would notice but I think he waited until the last minute on somethings. Dance floor was always full.
Like I said I would not change a single thing in our special day. It was the most perfect, beautiful few days of my life. I would without a doubt recommend this venue.

I absolutely loved Steele Hill Resort. They were very flexible and allowed us to bring in our "winter" themed decorations the night before the wedding and set up the reception room. Everything was beautiful. We chose the buffet and the food was great and there was plenty to go around. Larry, the coordinator, kept us informed of everything that was going on and helped keep the reception going in a good direction. Everything was set to my standard and you definetly can't beat the views! We all had an excellent experience here.Sent on 01/26/2009
We also did our rehearsal dinner here. We did the steak and chicken BBQ and it was one of the best dinners i have ever had! Our family and friends also loved it. After the dinner we all went and played int he pool! So much fun. Our accomodations were also very good.

My husband and I were so impressed with Steele Hill, mostly because Penny Miller was like some kind of wedding planning superhero. Penny was my rock through the whole planning process and bent over backwards to make sure everything was exactly how we wanted. She worked with us to create a menu that was vegetarian friendly since so many of our guests were vegetarian including myself, and was flexible despite all the changes we made along the way. She supported all of my somewhat odd ideas about decorations, the ceremony, and the reception space. Most of all, she was calm and sweet and warm, and responded to all my texts, emails and phone calls in a timely manner. Penny has so much experience and seems to really love her job and the couples she meets. Besides Penny though, the food was AMAZING - all of our guests raved about it, and even though I only had a few minutes to stuff my face all of the food was spectacular (especially the potatoes, eggplant parm and lemon ricotta ravioli!). The servers were also spectacular, and went out of their way to bring my husband and myself hors d'oevres when I was bustling my dress and we were preparing to enter the reception hall. Not only that, but when some of our guests had maybe a bit too much alcohol and got a little obnoxious, the bartender and DJ kept them in check. My husband and I agreed our wedding would not have been nearly as much fun or as comfortable had we gone with another venue we looked at.Sent on 03/16/2015

The view is amazing and the grounds are beautiful, the staff was very helpful and Larry the cooridanator was very helpful with making things run smoothly. we chose the buffet and the food was delicous! My one and only problem was with the cleanliness of the rooms, for the price it costs to stay(with no discount to the bride and groom) the cleanliness was less than acceptable.Sent on 01/31/2011

We had our ceremony and our reception here at Steele Hill Resorts. We had mainly chose it for its amazing views of the lakes & mountains. Larry their coordinator is a bit off his rocker (in a good way) He can tend to be forgetful and non responsive with things and that can get highly annoying especially to a bride that is doing this for the first time and has all these questions about the planning process HOWEVER despite this in the end the day of Larry is magnificient Everything was exactly how we wanted it, exactly what Larry and we had discussed (yes sometimes we had to have the conversation more than once, but he's the main wedding guy there - I can't blame him since he's doing more than just my wedding).Sent on 11/15/2011
We chose the buffet for our dinner the food was absolutely delicious I (the brdie) had to plates filled (after I was told I wouldn't even be able to eat at all i'd be so busy HA!) It was hot, it was delicous, it was plentiful. For our passed hor dourves we were informed they would pass them around to the wedding party during pictures, but this never happened.
I forget her name at the moment but Larry's assistant (tall thin blonde woman) was a delight. I had specifically designed my own centerpieces and left them in her hands to put together and they came out just how I wanted. She made sure that my husband and I were where we were supposed to be and when we were supposed to be there, but wasn't annoying about it.
We had our rehearsal dinner at the Hilltop restaurant on the property - it was fantastic! Again, the food was delicious and all of our guests raved about it.
Booking rooms here - not sure if it was the time of year or if this is constant, but it was a two night minimum stay for our guests - which wasn't all that much of a huge deal except they dont' work with you on the price of the rooms at all even if more than half your guest list is booking a room there, it is what it is. We didn't even get a bride & groom discount. When we first showed up we were put all the way across the property which was not what Larry had originally told us we would be. We were to be off the main building where the restaurant and Tova's Tavern is so when the ceremony was to start I could basically just come right out of our room and be picked up in the golf cart and just go. The first room we were in was alright, but strange. It was a two part room and just fart too much to explain. I ended up going to the office and asking if we could have our room switched as it was not what was discussed with Larry. The people there were great to work with and there was no issue whatsoever. We were switched (to where we originally was supposed to be) and the room was fantastic! HUGE! a private "honeymoon suite' so to speak with a jacuzzi tub, private bath and the a huge open area for all us girls in the wedding party to get ready in with a full kitchen another bath and then another private bedroom with a bathroom! Overlooked the back property also where our ceremony was held. I believe this was Steele Hill South but POSSIBLY West.
We used Steel Hills suggested DJ, his name was Mike. My husband and I went back and forth about this for quite some time. You don't actually meet with Mike which was a huge turn off for me as it was mainly the fear of the unknown. You can get his contact information and have a conversation with him, but he doesn't acutally meet with you. We were nervous about using him as we weren't sure what we were going to get - Larry assured us that he was fantastic and has been DJing weddings there for years! I spoke with Mike on the phone and I was happy with our conversation and what we discussed. The DJ recommended by Steele Hill is by far the cheapest (good deal if you book through Larry) that you will probably find. However, we still met with other DJ's around the area...in the end we ended up booking Mike. He was alright - not sure i'd actually use him again for something else, but I can't say that I was overly excited/happy with him, but at the same time I can't exactly say that he was horrible either. He was mediocre - but I can't complain because our dance floor was packed all night long...if that makes any sense at all. One thing that set me off with him was during the garter toss our nephews (6 and 4 years old) ran up to the dance floor to play along and he suggested that they weren't of age appropriate and thought they should go sit down...C'mon! Anyways i've rambled on.....
All in all I was very happy with Steele Hill Resorts even with all the mishaps during the planning process the final day (which is really all that matters) I was very happy and nothing major went wrong whatsoever.

The Steele Hill Resort was a beautiful setting for my wedding. My guests raved about how much fun they had, the food was delicious and so many amenities! All in all a lovely place but there are always cons, for one, as a bride spending a substantial amount of money for a wedding you almost expect a little bit of gratitude from the resort, maybe a complimentary bottle of Champagne in the room the wedding night? Well don't expect ANYTHING from Steele Hill. These people nickel and dime you at EVERY angle! No complimentary ANYTHING, most places would comp the bride and groom their room the night of the wedding-NOPE! Offer a bottle of champagne and strawberries on the house to celebrate the nuptials? NAY! Very disappointing, hardly made you feel special or welcome or appreciated to be having your wedding at the facility.Sent on 10/04/2012
The rooms: the prices of the rooms is out of control expensive and if your having a wedding like I was in September they REQUIRE a 2 NIGHT MINIMUM STAY, we'll that's inconvenient but fine, it's their "policy" but they don't even offer people coming to stay there a for a wedding a discounted rate like almost EVERY other resort or hotel I encountered when choosing my wedding venue offered. The rooms themselves were nice, some better than others and some atrocious, for what you pay to stay there you would expect more, motel 8 coverlets on the beds? Expect that here. No fine linens in this establishment. Maids: non existent and didn't do their jobs, dirty towels everywhere and were never picked up, no made beds, EVER.
Anyway. My guests wished things weren't so expensive and that they didn't nickel and dime but all in all everyone said they enjoyed themselves and had a great time at the wedding, most said they'd go back so clearly Steele Hill did something right.

I had a fairly good experience working with Steele Hill Resorts for my wedding. I picked no for whether I would recommend this vendor to a friend because I really want to say maybe, I can't say yes for sure, it depends on what the friend is looking for. I am very happy with the wedding we had. There were a lot of great things about being there- we could have our ceremony and reception in the same location. The view is absolutely stunning, just like in their website pictures. The wedding coordinator was very responsive to communication. They went out of their way to make sure a lot of special details happened. It was lovely.Sent on 10/10/2014
My one issue is that the hall is divided up into 3 sections, which is fine. What I did not know until I got to my wedding is that, because we were using only two sections, the third outermost section was being used by resort guests. I did not say anything to staff because I preferred to spend the time enjoying my wedding. However, depending on the number of guests you end up with, they may not allow you to use all three sections and they may also seat people you don't know there. And also, for my guests in the second section, they closed the blinds and blocked the beautiful view (which is the number one reason I had picked this venue! I was furious!) If they had told me that there would be resort guests there ahead of time, I would have been able to be upset ahead of time and then feel better about it before my wedding day instead of finding out right at my reception. The deception was very unprofessional. Also no one told me this when I signed my contract, although that was with a previous coordinator, and not the current coordinator's fault.
Another silly problem: my husband told me he had a limited window of time to get lunch before the photographer arrived. His best man went to find him food. Essentially nothing in the resort was open at 1:00 when he went. So bring your own food for getting ready.

Let me first start by saying that I had a lot of anxiety over the wedding venue that I chose. We chose it for its cost effectiveness AND its breathtaking views of the mountains and lakes of NH. However, compared to other venues we looked at, this was considerably smaller (we used the Hilltop room), and the room was partially segregated into 2 rooms by 2 sets of french doors and side windows. We initially invited 200 guests and I was so nervous about fitting everyone in there. Only 150 accepted and I am happy to report that the space really wasn't too much of an issue. Weddings are typically cramped anyways and I tried to tell myself that to begin with. I was also slightly annoyed with Larry (their wedding contact/coordinator) during the whole planning process. I found that he flip-floped in his answers, constantly forgot who I was, took about 2 weeks to respond to my emails, and I had to remind him to do certain things and had to chase him for answers at times. Despite this, everything got done the way that I wanted and I had ZERO issues, so whatever communication errors we had were at least solved prior to the wedding!! Another thing I was annoyed at, was they use mainly rectangular tables instead of rounds and in order to maximum space, they needed to place 3 of the rectangular tables & chairs partially on the dance floor. This really bothered me and at the rehearsal dinner, I tried to get them to move them, which they offered to do, but that would mean I would need to move guests into the "second" room which I did NOT want to do. Nonetheless, the day came & went and I found that none of my fears were really an issue!! Everything went smoothly, the views were amazing, the buffet was AWESOME and I really have nothing to complain about!! The wedding/catering coordinator lady made sure we had food & drinks and was catered to everything we wanted!! My final issue which I had read several negative reviews on was the cleanliness of the rooms. My bridal suite was fine (despite not receiving a discount for being the bride & groom); however, my sister (the maid of honor) retreated to her room after the wedding only to find that it had NOT been cleaned at all. There were still used bed linens & bathroom towels & dirty (by then.. moldy) dishes in the sink!! She called to complain and they ended up giving her a full refund for the night, but since it was so late after the wedding, that they couldn't get her into a different room and had no cleaning staff to rectify the situation. She ended up sleeping on the couch (obviously not wanting to sleep on used bed linens). Again, they gave her a full refund, no questions asked.Sent on 09/06/2011
Despite my fears & anxiety, the wedding was PERFECT. There were NO major problems, the staff was really friendly, the food was great and I cannot tell you how beautiful the scenery was. People continue to compliment me on the venue. In addition, we had SO much fun AFTER the wedding. Our guests rotated between grilling on their complimentary grills, using the pool, gathering around the pool bar or even the bar in the main lobby!! It was a blast!! I wish I could do it all over again! The only reason I am giving this a 3.6 is because 1) I wish their reception room was one giant room and 2) being a crazy, over anxious bride, I wish Larry had done a little more to ease my anxiety by giving me the information I needed in a more timely fashion!!

It was a great location on short notice. The event planner was very involved and helped throughout the planning phase however when it came time for the wedding we were very disappointed. The night before our 11am wedding we went to the carriage house where our ceremony was going to be held. The carriage house was filled with hundreds of stacked chairs and other items. I told the planner and they said they would take care of it by morning, this prevented us from setting up that night like we had been told. After the wedding and ceremony I never heard from or saw the planner again. The next morning when trying to gather my belongings from the ceremony I found a box of my hand made centerpieces fallen over and broken and all of the flowers we paid for were tipped over, dying, with water spilling through our box of decorations. We were not given any of the left over cake even though there certainly was some, and when we ordered food later that night everyone's food order was wrong and/or incomplete and burned.Sent on 08/04/2017
