    Mat and his team did an EXCELLENT job for our New Year's Eve (12/31/17) wedding on St. Thomas! The food tasted AMAZING, the staff was super helpful, and the set-up of the tables, chairs, linens, etc. was all perfect. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to have a wedding in the Virgin Islands!

    My husband and I recently got married in St. John (5/20/17) and St. John Catering knocked it out of the park for our welcome dinner and wedding reception. In my family, we believe that food brings people and families together. It was really important for us to have the food at our reception and welcome dinner blow everyone away and that's exactly what St. John Catering did. From the minute we met Mat we knew that we were in good hands. The experience, knowledge, and professionalism both Mat and his team exudes is hands down the best. We had our welcome dinner at Mat's venue. They had a great outdoor set up and our guests could not stop talking about how great the bbq was. For our wedding reception, we had a grilling station with flank steak and Mahi Mahi as well as a jambalaya station. Guests said the Mahi was some of the best fish they had ever had and were eating 2nd and 3rd helpings of jambalaya. Needless to say, if you are looking for a caterer/staff that will go above and beyond for your special day, St. John Catering is the best there is.

    Mat and Nils provided the catering for our wedding reception as well as some in-villa meals, and I just cannot say enough how amazing and wonderful everything was! Our guests are still raving at how incredible the food was-- from being fresh, authentic, and absolutely delectable, to the outstanding presentation! Mat and Nils did a walk thru the day before and made us feel right at ease with all the plans. They had everything mapped out and on schedule so we had nothing to worry about! Nils also went above and beyond for us for our reception and we are so grateful! Of all our trips to St. John, we have never encountered such amazing food and service (and there are several great ones!). They also provided chairs (with beautiful chair covers!), tables, linens, china, and flatware and Nils made the extra effort to bring fresh flowers to decorate the villa. Planning our destination wedding from a distance was a challenge, but this team and staff made our vision a beautiful reality- and in many cases, without our prompting! It was a wonderful experience for us and we highly, highly recommend Mathayom!

    Mat and is team did the most amazing job on our rehearsal dinner and wedding. We used them for all our food, beverage, staffing and rental needs. They were professional, responsive and full of amazing ideas to make our wedding week a dream come true.

    Exceptional in every way ! St. John Catering sets the very highest standard with their service, quality of food & staffing. We were beyond satisfied with Mat & his staff for the rehearsal dinner and cannot recommend this company highly enough -- they are simply phenomenal.

    Planning a destination wedding is such a great adventure - but choosing a cater when you haven't tasted the food can make you a little nervous! The first time I spoke with Mat, I knew he was the guy for us. We had him cater three events for us - each one was slightly different but all three were absolutely wonderful! His team is so fantastic and fun, and I was really glad that I had such lovely people as part of our wedding week experience! I vividly remember eating dinner at the wedding and the entire table discussing how delicious and beautifully presented the food was - that meal was a highlight of the party! Mat and his team were a dream come true. If you are looking for an unforgettable meal, professionalism, presentation along with a stress free vibe and the joy of making a few new friends, then this is the team for you!

    Mat and his amazing team prepared the dinner for our daughter's wedding. He was very flexible with our wishes for the meal, for which we were very grateful. It was most important that we have have a great, and hopefully memorable for the reception, and the meal met and exceeded our expectations. His staff was amazing. Nils and Jay were amazing chefs, so easy to be around, and Michelle, lead for the wait staff, could easily have been a friend. All were very professional, friendly and wonderful. I would recommend St. John Catering to anyone.

    Mathayom & his team were amazing! We got married in St. John in July at the villa we rented for the week. We spoke & emailed in the weeks leading up to the event & every detail was taken care of for me. The menu was beyond delicious. Every guest raved about the tuna & the falafel waffles! We put our trust in this team to create a beautiful reception for us, and it was delivered! I can't thank them enough for their professionalism, their talent, and their follow-through to make our wedding night so memorable. I highly recommend them and can't wait to go back and book them again for an anniversary celebration someday...

    Mat and his crew did an amazing catering job for our wedding that we held at our Villa. Not only was his food unbelievable, but his service and professionalism were fabulous also! He had plenty of food options for us to choose from, and was very flexible in how we designed the menu. He and Brittany came out to our villa the day before to go over the layout, and went over all of the details that we needed to know. The day of the wedding went off without a hitch! The setup was great, and our guests raved about the delicious food. I highly recommend Mat and his team for any event that you might need catering for.

    When I started looking for caterers for our St Thomas wedding I had a hard time finding someone that responded to me in a timely manner and was also flexible and willing to meet my requests. After speaking to a few caterers and waiting weeks and even months to hear back…and essentially having the same conversation over and over again… I eventually started a deeper search which brought me St John Catering/Mathayom Private Chefs in St. John. I had my first conversation with Mat, the owner and he immediately impressed me! Their dishes were creative and unique and I felt like I was really getting a custom, top notch event. They were a bit pricier, but they proved to be well worth the extra cost (and some of the extra cost was the fact they had to travel to STT from STJ). They were also very considerate of my budget and worked with me to get where I needed to be financially. They responded in timely manner (2-3 day turnaround) and every time we had a conversation they had our past conversations documented, so each conversation was productive. My finance’s sister has a restaurant in San Francisco and she also caters weddings/events on the side and so I felt like I was armed with the right questions and knew exactly what to expect by her coaching. However, St. John Catering exceeded my expectations and even the very hard to please sister in law and all the foodies in attendance were thrilled with the food and service. From a timing standpoint STJ Catering nailed it.. to execute a 63 person plated dinner (let’s be realistic you can’t keep 63 dishes hot) does not seem easy, but the food was warm, plated beautifully and the service was excellent. I can not recommend St. John Catering enough, from start to finish they did an amazing job. Even their clean up was fantastic. Skip the research because I did it for you- hire STJ Catering. Oh, its also worth noting that we had individual chocolate molten lava cakes for dessert – they were a crowd pleaser and delicious!

    Mat and crew not only put out some seriously amazing food, but are a lot of fun and helpful as well! The team catered 3 separate events during our wedding weekend in St John, and each one was fantastic. The welcome party, the wedding reception and the brunch after the reception the next day. Every plate was perfect, the bartenders courteous and nice, and the staff was a lot of fun and made the event that much more special. No brainer--if you are having an event [especially a wedding in STJ/STT], don't look any further than St John Catering and Mathayom!

    St. John Catering was amazing for our reception! Every detail was attended too with the utmost professionalism and executed flawlessly. The staff is very professional and friendly, the food is amazing (we are still receiving very positive comments), and the attention to detail (time line) will ensure your event is as memorable has you had hoped.     We recently engaged the services of Mathayom and St John catering to host '3" outstanding events surrounded around our daughter's wedding on St John. We were left speechless by the execution of all "3" events. Mat and staff were incredibly professional, thoughtful and the food was amazing. We live in Boston area and have a fair amount of experience and knowledge in the event and catering field. Mat did not let us down and our "65" guests were overwhelmed by the quality of the food and service that they experienced. The key to a successful event is the amount of fun the hostess has. I can report; that this hostess along with bride and groom had the time of their lives due to the comfort and calm execution of all 3 weekend wedding events that were coordinated through our capable wedding planner and Mathayom outstanding presentation of food and staff. Mat and staff felt and treated us like family. It was a honor to work with Mathayom and St John Catering. We will recommend to others and will be back to experience more of their splendid cooking in the near future. Hats off to you SJC!!

    Planning a destination wedding is stressful alone. Feeling completely comfortable with entrusting St John Catering- Mathayom with the creation and delivery of our wedding meal was easy! They far exceeded my expectations and our guests still talk about the meal! Thank you!!

    Chef Mat and his team were fantastic. From our first phone and email contact, they responded promptly and answered our questions about hosting a rehearsal dinner at our rented villa. Planning was very smooth, and Mat understood the type of dinner and experience we desired and offered helpful suggestions.
    On the evening of the event, Mat and Lisa arrived and set to work cooking and arranging everything. They were clearly professionals, and we could relax and enjoy the evening with our family and not worry about anything. The food was amazing! Mat discussed the outlines of a menu in advance, but the details were a surprise, depending upon what was fresh in the market that day. From a variety of appetizers to the dessert, everything was delicious. Mat's choice of wines complemented the meal, and Lisa made sure our glasses were full while Mat was preparing each course in the kitchen.
    After dinner, Mat and Lisa cleaned up efficiently and quietly while our guests were still enjoying the lovely evening. There was not one dish out of place, and the few leftovers were packaged up neatly and tucked into the fridge. Lisa even doubled as a group photographer so we could include everyone in our family picture!
    We highly recommend St. John Catering if you are planning a special occasion event with great food and no stress!

    Delicious, delicious, delicious! That's the only way to describe the plated, served dinner (Maho Bay package) at my son's reception. Every dish from appetizers to dessert was perfect. The staff of St. John Catering was the most professional I have ever encountered. They prepared the meal on site at our venue and were professional, courteous and responsive to our needs from the moment they arrived. Their teamwork was noteworthy and they were so unobtrusive during our reception that I never noticed their departure. I will definitely use them again for my island catering needs.

    I could not have been more pleased with the catering services provided by St. John Catering! Not only was the food incredibly delicious (we received so many positive comments from our guests), St. John Catering was attentive to our every need.

    When planning a destination wedding in the islands, you may find that many vendors are on "island time" and do not get back to you expediently; this is not the case with St. John Catering. Mat and his team were responsive from our first communication all the way throughout the process of planning our reception. We met with Mat, Jess and several other team members in person before the wedding and went over all details. They discussed rain contingency plans with us (this was a blessing as it turned out that it did sprinkle a few times) and answered any and every question we had.

    When it started to sprinkle the evening of our reception, Jess and the team quickly mopped, moved the appetizers out of the rain and made sure every guest was comfortable and attended to. After the rain stopped, they reset up the dining area outside (they were so efficient I hardly knew it was happening) and served the dinner and cake. I can't say enough how delectable the food was and how much everyone truly enjoyed it. I highly recommend St. John catering for a wedding or any other event in the Virgin Islands.

    Mat and his team worked with us to create a fabulous menu for our 100-person wedding reception on May 18th. His food was delicious and beautiful! Our guests are still talking about how amazing the food was. Mat and his staff did a walk through with us the day before and stayed the entire night of our wedding to make sure everything was perfect.     Mat and his staff worked at our wedding on St John on May 17, 2012. The wedding was everything and more because of his services. Mat himself was at the wedding the entire night. He made sure my husband and I were always comfortable and happy. The food was absolutely amazing and my guests are still talking about it. The hit of the night was our Coconut shrimp with chutney skewers! Delicious! We also had great comments on the Key Lime tartlets too!
    The service as also amazing, the bartenders, the staff at the stations - everyone was just so helpful and friendly. I have 3 very picky nieces that were all very happy at the end of the night because Mat not only brought out two huge trays of chicken fingers for them but all the staff was willing to make them plates that fit their picky diets!
    To all of you working for Mathayom, Matt and I would like to say thank you for making our day so memorable and so special, we wouldn't have done it any other way!

    Our food was fantastic! Very upscale but not too foo foo for our guests to try and figure out what they were eating. The filet and lobster were quite possibly the best I've ever had and my wife and I are kind of foodies. They timed everything very well and everyone was happy with their food. From presentation to taste and temperature...they knocked it out of the park.

    Mat and his crew at St. John's Catering were great. Mat worked with us to create a menu that suited us and our laid back wedding BBQ reception. The food was amazing (everyone raved about it), the staff was professional, and we worried about nothing. Mat took care of it all. He was extremely responsive to emails and phone calls. Likewise, the day before the wedding, he did a walk through and outlined a time line for us. My husband and I appreciated that he was organized and the "schedule of events" kept us on track and ensured that we didn't miss a thing. Mat and his crew took care of everything for us so we could relax and enjoy our wedding reception. We would highly recommend Mat for any catering or dinner party. We're hoping to do an anniversary trip next year and would definitely call Mat again to cater the party. Thanks Mat for everything!!

    Mathayom of St. John Catering catered our wedding reception in our villa on St. John for 21 guests. The food was exceptional, as fine as any we have experienced worldwide. It was elegantly presented by a courteous and professional staff. If you want the best it is available with St. John Catering.

    St John's Catering is truly a customer service driven business that made planning our brunch reception an easy and stress-less process. The staff at St John's Catering were able to take the vision of what my finance and I desired to experience with our guests and bring it to fruition. The staff not only "did their job" but were equally invested in making sure that our wedding day was a pleasant memory for us all. The staff is professional, and I never had to follow up with them to make sure that they were getting the job done. During the brunch, the food and service were excellent. When we look back on the experience, my husband and I have fond memories of enjoying the wonderful palette of flavor created by the chefs of St John's Catering and the relaxing time spent with the people we love. We will always cherish our wonderful day and will be forever grateful to St John's Catering for contributing to such amazing memories. I would highly recommend St John's Catering to any couple getting married on St Thomas or St John. They are more than just a business.     These guys are AMAZING! They prepared brunch at our villa prior to the wedding ceremony and it was perfect. They were on time, did the set up, and the food was so good! We had mini cupcake sized omelettes, (the bacon, egg, and cheddar was my fav), bacon, home fries, yogurt, granola, pastries, smoked salmon, fresh lemonade, etc.

    Chef Mat and his crew are simply amazing! They were very accommodating, helpful, courteous, and the food served was phenomenal! Chef Mat & St John Catering use the freshest ingredients (they have their own farm) and portion the amounts appropriately based on the number of guests that are expected perfectly (i.e. no waste).

    A few details about our experience: Chef Mat, Brittany, and Teresa were our direct contacts throughout planning our Wedding Reception. We chose to go with the Maho Bay package which included appetizers, open bar, starch sides, vegetable sides, dessert, and Mat allowed us to sub out the entrees for a BBQ Whole Pig (AMAZING!). Another big benefit of the Maho Bay package was the onsite event manager who orchestrated all of the events following the ceremony. This was a big selling point since we chose to have a wedding planner for the ceremony only, it was well worth it! The value of St. John Catering was great too and not just for the food/drinks...our wedding planner quoted us at $1200 for an outdoor lighting rental and had no other options...Chef Mat & St. John Catering (while knowing that price quote) swooped in with a rental price about half that price! A few days prior to the wedding, we met with Mat and Teresa to review the timeline and to finalize the cocktail hour & reception setup.
    The only ding we would give St. John Catering is that their email response turnaround wasn't as timely as we had hoped for...but it's more of an after thought now and is easily overshadowed by the amazing service and quality.
    If you're worried about planning a destination wedding (like we were!), trust us when we say that with St. John Catering "you're in great hands!" After all, they have won the award for "Best Caterer & Private Chef" several years in a row...that simply doesn't just happen by chance, you need a passionate owner and staff that make it their goal to be the best and St. John Catering IS the best!!

    St John Catering AKA Mathayom, catered our reception. They cooked all of the appetizers and dinner right at our villa. They are an all inclusive catering business. They provided tables, chairs, linen, wait staff, bar, bartender, ambiance of shells/lights/candles/etc. They even move furniture and clean up after the party is done. Before the contracted event, the owner came to our villa to discuss lay out ideas and how the event would run. All of the staff was friendly, professional, and flexiable. The food was amazing! Its been a month since our wedding and the guests are still talking about the delicious food. Highly reccommend!!

    The whole team at St. John catering was awesome! They catered my wedding in St. John on Dec 11, 2013. Honestly, I didn't have too high of expectations because catered food is usually not amazing, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of my meal!! All my guests loved their meals and Matt was super patient and helpful during the whole planning process. Overall I was super pleased with their service, aside from their slow email responsiveness! Thanks again Matt!

    Just wanted to say Thank You to Mat and his team at St. John Catering for their catering services at our Beach BBQ event at Hawksnest Beach in St. John. Almost a year of communicating and planning went in to this event with several changes on both ends and throughout the process Mat and his team did their best to make our Beach BBQ event a success. I would recommend using St. John catering's services if you are planning a large event on the island. They have several connections above and beyond catering to help if you need additional services. The day of our event the guys at St. John Catering did an excellent job with set up and clean up. The best part of our day was the food - we had some very specific requests and Mat's kitchen was able to accommodate them and create a personalized menu to our liking. We very much appreciate the services they provided. Thank you!

    St. John Catering did a great job of catering our wedding! We had a cocktail hour with 4 passed hor devoures and a buffet style dinner. The food was excellent! I worked with Heather Troiano to set everything up, and she was such a friendly and accommodating person. She was by far my favorite vendor to work with in the preparations for our wedding. I felt like she was genuinely happy for us and excited for our big day. It meant a lot to have her be so encouraging and enthusiastic and not feel like just another client.

    The pros of St. John Catering:
    1. The food is OUT OF THIS WORLD yummy. :-) Since I didn't really do a tasting beforehand, I was keeping my figures crossed that everything would turn out well and it was excellent.
    2. The customer service leading up to our reception was fantastic. I dealt primarily with Heather, and she was an absolute delight.

    The cons of St. John Catering:
    1. They adhere to a very strict timeline and were quick to go into overtime. Our reception had a delayed start because the ceremony started later than planned; the rest of our vendors were willing to work with that, but my wedding planner let me know that Mat was less flexible.
    2. My wedding planner noticed some things that she graciously hid for me the day of the wedding: they were slow to get the food out, the food was not replenished quickly enough, and there were not enough plates. (Let me add here that Heather wasn't able to be present at our actual reception; things might have gone a bit smoother if she had). Again, these are not things I noticed, but are things brides might want to be mindful of.
    3. They have some add-ons that are kind of strange (a 20% service charge that's not considered gratuity, overtime charges if they have to set up earlier than an hour or so before the event, etc.).
    4. They do not have a buy-back option for unopened bottles of alcohol. I way overestimated how much we'd need (I overestimated wine/beer and underestimated the number of painkillers), so we were stuck with cases of beer and wine. Some of it we drank during our honeymoon, but most of it we ended up giving away as gifts to friends we made in St. John. A buy back option would be great since it's not like we could have taken the booze back with us to the States. I felt bad that so much of it went to waste.

    I would definitely recommend St. John Catering, but would encourage brides to negotiate with them as much as possible concerning overtime especially.
