Hill Country Wedding Cake

Our wedding experience was made all the sweeter thanks to Sophie and Emma at Sophie's Bakery, a delightfully friendly and fun team to work with! They were very fun to talk to over the phone, had helpful tips along the way, and everyone enjoyed the cake (there was none left over!) Sophie has a really easy system for ordering cake samples, and it made it easy for us out of towners. If you're in search of an wedding cake vendor in the hill country with lots of experience and a homey touch, order with Sophie!

Highly Recommend!

We so loved our cake from Sophie’s bakery. Was very glad we went with this service! We got our wedding cake here. It was delicious, and moist, and the frosting was terrific. We also ordered gluten free cupcakes for a guest, and I was told those were delicious as well. We reached out on pretty short notice as we were doing a very small wedding and ceremony, but they worked with our time frame. To be honest, I did find the self-service nature of the pick-up process to be a little sketchy, as it seemed like anyone could have just grabbed our cake, but it all worked out! Just something to be aware of when planning. Overall, would highly recommend and visit next time I’m in the area.

Delicious cake and so easy to work with!

Sophie's Bakery has a reputation for being the BEST in Fredericksburg, TX. I can tell you from experience that Sophie's Bakery absolutely is the BEST! The cake that we ordered or our daughter's wedding was mouth wateringly delicious (as well as the chocolate cupcakes with espresso chocolate frosting)! Sophie's Bakery was so easy to work with. Everything can be done online, but you can also call and ask questions and work out the details. They were very professional about payment and would make everything so easy to do! An absolute joy to work with. We will have to order a whole other cake for my daughter's one year anniversary, because she and her husband could not wait to finish the delicious cake!

Delicious cake, great value for money, wonderful designs

Sophie's Bakery has lots of different flavour options for both cake and frosting, which was great as we knew we wanted something other than traditional wedding cake.

Both bride & grooms cake were highly customizable. I requested a screen printed image for the groom's cake and it turned out wonderfully! Additionally, instead of having to peal off the top layer to save for our anniversary, we had a whole special mini-cake delivered for us to take home and save!

The cost was great and Sophie's Bakery was communicative and easy to work with! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for cake for their event!

Great experience

We used Sophie's Bakery for our wedding cake and groom's cake and they were both great! Both were absolutely delicious. Our groom's cake was red velvet with buttercream frosting, and our wedding cake had peach cream cheese filling. We would recommend Sophie's Bakery to anyone!

Great Cakes

They cakes looked and tasted great! I was able to either drop by the bakery or stay in contact via email. I did not have to worry the slightest about anything to do with the cakes the day of. Great people to work with and a great product.

Beautiful and delicious!

They did a fantastic job! The cakes and cake pops were beautiful AND delicious. Everyone loved the cake. Our wedding was Sunday and it’s friday now and I’m still eating on the cake pops!!! We wanted our cake done locally and our wedding was on Sunday. That’s inconvenient for most, but Sophie exceeded our expectations!!! I definitely recommend!

Gorgeous designs!

Our cakes from Sophie's were beautiful and tasted delicious!! You cannot go wrong ordering from her. We showed her Pinterest pictures of what we envisioned for both the bride's and groom's cake, and in reality, they were even better than the pics! She's an absolute artist and will customize your dream cake. Communication with her office was easy and quick as well! If you are looking for a great Hill Country vendor, we highly recommend Sophie!

Sophie is a wedding cake legend in the Hill Country, so we knew we could only go with the best for our wedding cakes. Sophie was very responsive in her emails and gave valid suggestions regarding servings, display trays, etc. We went with a traditional chocolate cake for the groom's cake and a white cake with cream cheese filling for my cake. Everyone is still raving about the cakes!!

Sophie's cakes are seriously to die for and she is a true professional. We are from out of town, so we had to do a to-go tasting when we were in town for other wedding errands and she made it super easy. At the wedding, everyone commented on how delicious the cakes were. Not only that, they were beautiful as well and reasonably priced. The way she arranged the flowers on the tiers of our wedding cake made it look just like my "Pinterest cake." The groom's cake was especially a hit- we had a Texas shaped cake with a fondant flag draped across it and a 3-d armadillo (I was named after Steel Magnolias, so I had to work an armadillo into the groom's cake somehow!). Overall I would highly recommend!!

Our cake was soooo delicious! We chose carrot cake with cream cheese icing (my favorite). We also asking them to do the icing around the edges so that you could see the cake through it (not sure what that's called...I was basing it on photos I'd seen). It looked gorgeous - very unique.

Our cake came out AMAZING! We provided a pic of one we had seen to Sophie, and her cake actually looked better than what we gave her! She meticulously applied floral accents and we were just thrilled with the results. But let me take a step back--I will tell you that most wedding cakes i have tasted have been so-so: the cake always looked better than it tasted and was always a disappointment. But Sophie's cake? AMAZING! It is moist, dense, and perfectly flavored. Our guest raved about it too! I will always go to Sophie anytime we need a cake for a special occasion in the future. We live in San Antonio, but driving to Fredericksburg is TOTALLY WORTH IT! thank you Sophie for all of your hard work!

Out of all the people in Fredericksburg, TX this was my favorite vendor. Super kind, accommodating and just worth every penny. I'm still eating the cake we purchased and I can't believe how wonderful it tastes!

Sophie's bakery was the perfect choice for our wedding cake. First of all, the cakes tastes amazing!! We got a 3-tier cake with a small round carrot cake on the side. Sophie was very responsive to emails and always willing to lend her advice and expertise when it came to design, flavors etc. not a single bad thing to say about Sophie's! It's also pretty economical, especially for the quality. I couldn't have asked for a better cake and I was under budget!

Sophie's Bakery was great! I had seen a lot of weddings in the area use them so we just started there. We live in NY so we had to plan our wedding from afar, so we came into town around the holidays to do a tasting. They accidentally forgot we were coming but sent us on our way with a sample kit and waived the fee to make it right and spent plenty of time with us answering all of our questions and looking at pictures with us. They really helped us figure out a custom plan so that we could serve the top tier (didn't want to fly back to NY with it!) and supplement a smaller cake with chocolate and red velvet cupcakes to make sure we had variety of flavors and also to help keep the costs down. The cake was really delicious and the whole display looked beautiful. It was exactly what we wanted and asked for. Really recommend!

We had Sophies Cake for our wedding recently, along with some tartlets for our desert bar! Sophies cakes are so amazing and the taste is not compared! When vendors in the area asked who we would be using for cake, and we said Sophies everyone had the same reaction! We event went back to get samples twice just to be able to try it again before the wedding! I know I am really excited for our 1 year anniversary so we can eat that top tier of our wedding cake! :)

If you're getting married in Fredericksburg, or the surrounding area, you HAVE to use Sophie. There's just no comparison. Our cake was beautiful, delicious, and the desserts on the dessert table were even better. They were gone in minutes- thank goodness someone saved the Bride some!

The best bakery in Fredericksburg and def better than a lot of places in major cities. LOVED the red velvet wedding cake. They made a beautiful cake, just how we wanted and even got some additional flowers to add to it without having me go to the florist. I dream of eating this cake. It was so good!

Holy cow, what good cake! I can't say enough good things about Sophie, her staff, and her cake. We had a three-tier wedding cake with blooms provided by our florist that Sophie put on a gorgeous, pinterest-worthy cake stand, which had a layer of carrot cake with cream cheese icing and white cake with peach preserve filling - it was out of this world. Sophie also worked with my mother to create a Steel Magnolias-style armadillo groom's cake. The prices were very reasonable, even for the custom cake. Sophie herself was wonderful to work with and very responsive. I'd recommend her bakery to anyone with taste buds.

Sophie made our cakes exactly how we wanted them, and they were DELICIOUS! We actually did not get to save any of the groom's cake, so I went by the bakery on our honeymoon, and she gave us part of the same cake for free. She is a fantastic baker!

One word - FABULOUS. Our cake was very unique and we were 250 miles away. Needless to say, we were a little nervous. When we walked in and saw the cake we couldn't believe it. It was perfect. Not only was it beautiful but it tasted fantastic. We can't thank you enough!! On our wedding day, the wedding cake was definitely "the icing on the cake". I highly recommend Sophie's Bakery.

Sophie's made 2 incredible cakes for us, I brought in a picture of what I wanted for my cake, simple, rustic, yet elegant. They executed it perfectly to the picture I wanted. This was the most delicious cake I have EVER had. All the guests talked about how awesome it was too. And, my hustband's cake was fantastic too. We selected a texas shaped cake for him and they added some really cool elements around the cake to reflect the Hill Country landscape. I was surprised by this when i saw it, thought it was cool. As they were setting up when I said something about it, they thought I might not like it so they offered to completely change it which I told them absolutely not, it was awesome! But I liked the fact that they were willing to completely change it on the spot if I wanted. They were awesome. Can't wait till 1st year anniversary to eat that top layer!

Sophie's cake that she made for our wedding was delicious and beautiful! It was a white cake with peach and cream cheese filling, with a white buttercream frosting. So yummy! Sophie was very easy to get in touch with, and was such a joy to work with. We highly recommend her!

Our cake was beautiful AND delicious!! I gave them a picture of what I wanted a few months before the wedding, with a couple changes, and it turned out exactly how I wanted it! The ladies at Sophie's delivered our cake and set it up for us. When I walked into the venue and saw it, I was immediately in LOVE!! It tasted so good too!! Bonus! I can't wait to eat the top piece next year!

Our cakes were not only delicious but they were so very pretty. I was told to be cautious with the buttercream on the outside since it was an outdoor wedding. They held up and tasted amazing! I would recommend her cakes to any bride in the area! I ended up going with the vanilla cake with strawberry filling and cream cheese with the white buttercream. The grooms cake was chocolate with chocolate mousse and chocolate buttercream.

When we were planning our wedding we decided all of our guest would enjoy a dessert table more than the traditional wedding cake. But, I still wanted a wedding cake to be able to cut into and share with my new hubby. Sophie's Bakery was able to work with us and accommodate all of our wish list items. We ordered a small two-tier ribbon buttercream cake with the most amazing filling (Merlot) which Sophie suggested. We enjoyed every bite and still wish we would have ordered a 5-tier cake. Thank you Sophie for creating not only a beautiful cake but a delicious one too.

Sophie's Bakery did both my bride cake and the groom's cake and they were AMAZING! She can bake and construct any cake and is very easy to work with. The flavor of her cakes is awesome and all of our guests loved them! I definitely recommend using this bakery.

My wedding cake was not only delicious, it was absolutely beautiful! It was a shame to cut into it!! Sophie was wonderful to work with, as this was a "destination" wedding and everything was planned by email. Everything was perfect. I also had "tuxedo strawberries" (chocolate dipped strawberries, decorated to look like tuxedos), which were adorable and all of the guests loved. It was something unique to serve with a piece of wedding cake. One of our wedding guests had a birthday on the day of our rehearsal dinner, and Sophie made a birthday cake at the last minute. She offers many different flavor and design options. I highly recommend.

We had a cake recipe that we wanted to incorporate. Sophie was gracious enough to check the recipe and incorporate it along with her own recipe. She brought ideas and questions to conversation and kept in touch to make every detail of the Brides and grooms cakes were done to perfection. I would highly recommend her bakery and would indeed use Sophies choice again.

I cannot emphasize enough how DELICIOUS my cake was or how beautiful!!! Looking back she could have charged so much more and I would have paid it! I cannot wait till our 1 year anniversary so I can have another piece. Sophie is extremely professional (no small talk) but still friendly and very willing to try and do EXACTLY what you want. We had one cake with chocolate icing and fondant and everyone who walked by it stopped because of the wonderful scent of chocolate that hit you from yards away.

We LOVED our cake from Sophies Choice! We didn't want a groom's cake, so she sat down and helped us design the wedding cake to accomodate all of our guest's tastes! Each piece was white cake, raspberry filling, cream cheese filling and chocolate cake! She showed us tons of pictures and we even brought some in from online to work with. She designed exactly what we had in mind and it was delicious also! I'm just sad there was none left when we got back from the honeymoon!

Great she was excellent to work with for designing my cakes and was on of the best cakes I have ever had!

The cakes from Sophie's are absolutely pieces of Heaven. All of my guests have raved about both cakes. I gave a picture to Sophie of what I wanted my cake to look like along with the colors that I wanted. When she came to the door with the cake, I could not believe my eyes. It was picture perfect and the taste was out of this world wonderful. The grooms cake, same thing. The coffee taste of the cake and perfect chocolate shavings were just awesome. I can not comment enough on how wonderful this pastry chef is!!!

I highly recommend Sophie's Choice Bakery for your wedding cake. Mine was simple but beautiful with fresh flowers surrounding each layer. It had a raspberry filling and everyone loved it! Sophie's Choice is located in Fredericksburg, Texas in the Hill Country.

Sophie’s Bakery did a fantastic job in providing the cake and cupcakes for my wedding. We ordered several dozen and they were absolutely incredible. They were ready exactly as stated and were the perfect addition to our sweets table. Our guests loved them.

Love this bakery the cake turned out gorgeous and of exceptional flavors. Price was way cheaper than any other place and the cake was very moist.They were willing to work with our budget, and if there was something they did not have, they offered to create it.I am looking forward to finishing off our cake on our one year anniversary.

Sophie delivered exactly what I had envisioned and both cakes tasted amazing! We did white cake with two different fillings - the top and bottom layers with cappuccino (my favorite!) and the middle with a thin layer of super fresh peach filling and cream cheese!! The grooms cake was chocolate on chocolate on chocolate, which wasn't for everyone, but great for the chocolate lovers! It was a little pricier than other bakeries I had considered, but after tasting the cakes, it was no contest! I'm very happy with our choice and would recommend Sophie to anyone looking to get married in the Hill Country!

The cake was delicious. The design we wanted on the outside could have been done much better and looked sloppy. We also purchased three dozen cupcakes all of which they neglected to put the filling I paid for in. It was quite disappointing.

This has been by far my favorite cake I have ever had! They were very professional and flexible with my requests. I would suggest bringing in full pictures so you get exactly what you want. Although my cake was slightly different than I expected, it was very elegant and fabulous tasting! For such detailed work, I was surprised at how affordable her cakes are!

Wedding cake/tartlets

We used Sophie’s for our wedding. The positive is that they make amazing gluten free options, which is hard to find. We had a cake and the tartlets and all were excellent. They showed up on time and set everything up for us. My only complaint is that they gave us the wrong wedding cake flavors. I emailed to notify of this and never heard a response. A simple “I’m so sorry” goes a long way, but instead we heard crickets and I did not get what I paid for.

Sophie's cakes are absolutely delicious. Our display cake was white with peach and Bavarian cream fillings, and it was seriously to die for. However, a few things went very wrong. First of all, I had ordered the display cake (60-75) servings, and another cake for the other 60 servings. We had discussed that the extra serving cake would be in the caterer's kitchen, so they could be easily pre-sliced and served. However, after cutting our display cake, we soon realized that the other cake was nowhere to be found - it was not delivered. We called the bakery, and our phone call was returned about 45 minutes later. Our money was refunded for the cake that was not delivered on time (they did end up bringing it, but all but a handful of guests had already left). I felt that not enough was done to make up for this monumental mistake; the apology that I received was "we certainly apologize for the inconvenience and our mistake," in an email. Another issue was our display cake had a very noticeable defect (it looked like a bubble on the top tier), which you can see in the attached picture.

The cake was pretty, but it took a lot of back and forth to get what I had in mind. We did a simple naked cake - meaning a cake with no fondant and the icing exposed between each layer. I wanted just a simple white wedding cake - and she said the only way she could get a tan color with that was to dye it with tea bags which I thought was really weird and could effect the taste. I have no idea though. But instead, we did a spice cake which is not what I had in mind, but it would pretty much our only option. Also, my mother and mother in law are both allergic to gluten, and when I asked about a gluten-free option, she said she could do a "boxed cake mix" as our cake. Ridiculous, I can bake that at home - I don't need to pay to have that by a professional caterer. Communication was difficult because I never actually go to talk with Sophie, the actual baker. I was constantly talking to her assistant - even on the phone where she would ask Sophie the question, then tell me the answer. Just silly to me - deliver and set up was professional and on time. But they could really use some work in communication. My wedding coordinator called the week before, confirming my vendors, and they wouldn't even speak with her because she said "they already confirmed everything with the bride" even though I emailed several times that I would prefer they direct any questions to her. It was not a terrible choice - but in Fredericksburg, you are left with very slim choices unless you want to pay a large delivery fee.

My experience with Sophie's Choice was by far the worst experience I had with any of my vendors while planning my wedding. My main complaint with this vendor is that the owner does not operate the business in a professional manner. Sophie is the owner, and she sets the prices for all of the services. However, every time I called to discuss the cost and attempt to come to an agreeable price, I was not allowed to speak with Sophie. Instead, I was required to speak with "Susan." Susan, however, had no decision-making power and could only act as a go-between. As a result, I spent an hour at a time on the phone with Susan waiting for her to relay my questions to Sophie, for Sophie to respond, and then for Susan to relay Sophie's response to me. It was ridiculous, and I cannot think of any other business that operates in that manner. Additionally, although I arranged to use Sophie's Choice for my wedding cake, I was not able to come to an agreement with this vendor and had to find a new shop to make my wedding cake just six weeks before my wedding! Sophie's prices are much higher than any other cake shop in the Texas hill country that I spoke with, and she flatly refuses to negotiate. This vendor is incredibly unprofessional, highly overpriced, and impossible to work with. If you are looking to use Sophie's Choice for your special event, I would recommend that you look elsewhere. Honestly, it just is not worth the headache.
