Truly amazing!

Where do I even start? I simply loved Shirley and I loved her cake! She is such an incredible person and so easy to talk to and get along with. Her cakes are super reasonably priced and so delicious! Everyone loved our cake! We did not save the top tier because it was an out of town wedding for us. But we couldn't have saved it anyway. It was all gone! We had a 2 tier cake and I believe a full sheet cake for about 100 people. We chose french vanilla raspberry swirl and amaretto:D. I've had lots of dry wedding cake over the years and I may be biased, but this one was perfectly moist and had great flavor! If I lived in San Diego, I'd order cakes from her for other occasions too!

Shirley was amazing. My cake looked exceptional and it tasted like heaven. I highly highly recommend her for any cake needs. She was so easy to work with and is the sweetest most kindest lady. I'm glad I had the opportunity to work with her.

Shirley was amazing. Her cakes are the best I have ever tasted! She is so friendly and treated us like family! There was a scheduling issue and she went out of her way to make sure our needs were met. We had so many compliments about the quality of our wedding cake. We had a destination wedding and so Shirley worked with me via email and phone. She was quick to respond and so fun to talk to. I highly recommend her for any event you may be planning.

Shirley is FANTASTIC. I couldn't imagine our wedding cake made by anyone else. We had german chocolate with coconut filling, lemon creme and amaretto poppy seed.

Shirley was recommended to us through one of our friends, telling us that her cakes were the most delicious ones she had ever tried. And boy, was she right!

We ordered a 3 tier cake for our wedding of 55 people. Our anniversary cake was ghirardelli chocolate fudge with raspberry, the middle was strawberry pound cake swirl and the bottom was Baileys. My 85 year old grandmother ate 3 pieces! Everyone raved about the cake. It was absolutely gorgeous, so full of flavor and so moist.

The best part about this experience? Shirley herself! She's such a kind, caring, sweet and genuinely loving woman. You can tell she loves what she does, and the people she creates for. Please, do yourself a favor and buy a cake from this woman! They are delicious, affordable and you will never meet a kinder woman!

A friend recommended that that we purchase our wedding cake from Shirley by stating "it's the most delicious cake you'll ever taste." They were absolutely right. Shirley's cakes are not only beautiful but sooo delicious. Many of our guests made the same statement on our wedding night..."this is literally the best wedding cake I've ever tasted." I'm a customer for life. See you in a few months Shirley when I come in to get my birthday cake!

Shirley is a one of a kind cake vendor. Her cakes are the most delicious cakes I've ever had (and I am not a big cake person). She bakes all her cakes by hand and does everything on her own. (not just one of many at a large bakery). I would definitely recommend her to anyone!

We absolutely love Shirley!! She did an AMAZING job on our cake for our August 2nd wedding, we had plenty of cake to feed our 132 guests...everyone raved about it. She is just the sweetest lady, was very helpful from start to finish. She's very affordable and her cakes are excellent...highly recommend her and would love to use her again for other events down the road.

We just loved Shirley the day we met her! we talked for hours laughing and enjoying our social time while sampling a giant plate of her delicious cakes! Shirley's cakes truly shine and shows her decades of experience with wedding cakes! the cakes were perfectly decorated and tasted amazing!!!! a rare occurrence with wedding cakes that are usually bland with inedible frosting. All guests raved about the cake! a true hit! We love you Shirley!!!

Shirley delivered the most wonderful tasting cake to our venue and we could not have been more pleased. We ordered our wedding cake long distance and tried not to be nervous about the outcome. Our nerves were unwarranted because the cake could not have been more perfect and our guests are still talking about it today.

Shirley "The Cake Lady" was not only the sweetest lady to work with, she makes amazing cakes! After the tasting, it was so difficult for us to decide on the flavors because we honestly loved them all. Her cakes are so moist and flavorful and delicious! Our guests loved the cakes, we choose strawberry shortcake, marble and lemon poppyseed....these are flavors that we would never have chose but they were so tasty we had to go with these. Shirley's prices are also very reasonable and her cakes are worth very penny!

Shirley is one of tbe sweetest! Very professional, very reasonable and the best cakes here in SD. We chose the marble cake and everyone raved about it! I told Shirley I want to have some left over since we were having a gift opening party the next day, it worked out perfect! She was also helpful about ideas in keeping down the cost. We love Shirley and her cakes!

We can't say enough good about Shirley THE CAKE LADY. I really don't like cake, so when I was shopping for a cake vendor, I really struggled. Shirley's cakes were the first ones I liked...so many options and all of them were good. She gave us great advice. She even let me come over to taste with some friends. On our wedding day a year ago, she was awesome. She set the cake up, worked with the florist, it was flawless. The cake was amazing. She told us how to freeze the leftovers, too. We followed her instructions to a T. So now, a year later, we contact her to get another cake top so we can have special 1st year anniversary pictures taken. It was beautiful...in the same design as the wedding cake. On Christmas day, we have wedding cake from a year ago (chocolate raspberry) and a new 1st anniversary cake (lemon poppy seed). The cakes were both moist and tasty. We highly recommend Shirley. She is like family to us now! We love her! Shirley was recommended to us for our small budget wedding. As soon as I emailed her, she called me to explain the cake process and get to know us a bit. We met up with her for our tasting and picked 5 flavors to try. The two of us ate every bit of cake on our plate, everything was wonderful. Deciding which three flavors to choose may have been the hardest decision we made during our wedding planning. Not only are her cakes beautiful, she is one beautiful person...I will never forget Shirley! Our cake was complimented so much on how gorgeous it was and how great it tasted! We can't wait for our 1 year anniversary to eat our top and give Shirley another thank you call :)

Shirley is super friendly and funny. She is very personable and helpful. She referred Robin my photographer to me. Her cakes are moist and beautiful. I couldn't wait to have it after our cake tasting with her. I had the best experience working with her. Best wedding cake ever. From my initial consultation over the phone, I knew that I wanted to have Shirley make our cake. She is very friendly and very sweet. When my husband and I went to the tasting, we brought my maid of honor and bridesmaid. Shirley is just as friendly and energetic in person. The girls insisted they didn't want cake, but when the cakes started coming out, they couldn't resist. Shirley gives pretty big slices of cake for her tasting and not just a small sample, so bring your appetite (and maybe a couple friends!). We chose her Amaretto Poppyseed cake and her French White and Raspberry Swirl cake.
All our guests loved the cake!! So delicious and moist. And pretty too! Best wedding cake ever. We ate our anniversary cake within a week of our wedding (instead of freezing it like we meant to), and Shirley laughed when my husband told her because she said that everyone does that and instead they ask her to bake a small anniversary cake for them.
Her prices are reasonable too. She wasn't the cheapest, but certainly not the most expensive. Considering how good the cake was and the huge response from our guests, it was worth every penny.

The cake was delicious!

The tasting and pictures of cake options was a great experience as well.

My new hubby and I enjoyed the top of the cake the week following the wedding (rather than freezing it). Neither of us likes icing but we loved the icing she used and the cake was moist and perfect!

Best cake I’ve tasted!! I had first wanted cupcakes, but one conversation and tasting with Shirley and I was sold on cake! Her cakes are unbelievable! She uses so many fresh ingredients! It was so hard deciding which cakes to choose, but I definitely recommend the lemon! She uses fresh lemons and it is pretty much amazing! The wedding cake was just as good as the tasting cake, which shows that bulk orders don’t change the quality. The icing is so yummy and doesn’t melt. She was able to give me exactly the look I was going for. She doesn’t use fondant, which was fine for me. If you are looking for a fondant design, throw it out the window and go for the yummier cake!

Beyond the yummy cakes, Shirley is the sweetest woman in the world! She is hysterical; I wish I could have spent more time with her! She is one of those people you just want to be around.

She made everything so easy and is absolutely your best choice!

What can I say besides Shirley is fabulous! She was by far my favorite vendor, my husband would agree. From the moment we met Shirley and tasted her cake at a catering faire, we knew who we would use for cake and we were not disappointed. Shirley is a delight, very warm, friendly, she felt like a friend. We had amaretto and lemon poppy seed cake for our wedding and heard many wonderful reviews on the taste, the moistness, and the decor. We had a starfish/beach themed wedding and our cake was more than we could have asked for. Shirley came up with a fabulous idea for the decoration and incorporated my parent's cake topper and my Grandparents' topper into the event ~ something that shocked them. My husband and I were disappointed that we moved away from San Diego and couldn't get an Anniversary cake from her. Not only are Shirley's cakes wonderful, she is a delight, she is also very affordable!

You won't get fondant covered cakes from Shirley ... you'll only get the most fresh, delicious cakes you've ever tasted!!

I made a very difficult request of Shirley in terms of the style we wanted for our cake and although it took a little coaxing and creativity on her part, she not only came through ... she exceeded our expectations!!!

We chose two cake flavors: After trying out 5 different cakes at a cozy tasting, my fiance and I fell head over heels for the lemon poppy-seed cake. We also chose the raspberry vanilla cake for guests who might not appreciate the lemon. Both cakes were outstanding!!! Our family and friends raved about the cakes and we had some left over to snack on a few days later.

Shirley makes moist cakes from scratch... she's a pip and very friendly... like a sassy grandma! :) Plan on going in with an appetite and leaving with a full stomach and a new friend!

We will use Shirley for other events as well... can't get enough of her delicious cakes :) YUMMMM

Shirley will rock your world! first off she is very nice, loves to talk and will treat you like her own grandchild. her cke tasting was out of this world. huge slices to taste, lots of photos to look at of her work and very reasonable. i felt it was silly to pay so much for a cake, but mine fed 50 ppl was $250 and am craving more cake. this woman knows how to make cake. people wanted more! she uses amacing ingrediants takes time on decorating and knows her stuff. use shirley she is simply the best

AMAZING is an understatement!! Shirley provided the BEST tasting cake I have ever had at a wedding, and for an incredibly affordable price!!! Shirley makes you feel like family, and geniuinely cares about her brides and grooms! Our cake was beautiful, tasty and absolutely perfect! Shirley was one of my favorite vendors. She gives you a sweet kiss on the check and hug upon your arrival and departure immediately making you feel like family. Our wedding cake had four flavors and each was raved about by our wedding guests. She even let us "rent" a beautiful pedestal to put the cake on. She doesn't hide anything in a hard to read contract or hidden fees, everything is up front. She is absolutely marvelous!

Shirley is a delight to meet. She delivers excellence in design, presentation, value and most importantly TASTE! My darling daughter (Bride Meghan) and Groom Jesse thoroughly enjoyed tasting Shirley’s amazing samples. Selecting the flavors was not an easy matter because they are all truly delicious. Shirley’s stories are great. It is obvious that she continues baking wedding cakes because she loves meeting people and participating in memorable passages. Our wedding cake was perfect (complete with the IRISH /seaside) touch. I highly recommend Shirley (the best cake lady ) EVER!!!

Our wedding was on 10.22.10 and we have to say Shirley was one of the nicest vendors by far! She is the sweetest lady and really makes you feel important and not just a sell for her. We just knew she was the one we wanted after biting into the first cake!!
We had a small wedding of 55 and selected her to make 2 satelite cakes (one spiced apple and the other strawberry swirl). People marveled at the cake and when we returned from the honeymoon at least a few people we spoke to have stated it was the best cake they ever had at a wedding!

Shirley did my daughter's wedding cake a couple in 2007 and it was sooo wonderful. My daughter and I always talk about how fabulous the cake was. And it wasn't just beautiful, it tasted great! We ordered extra to make sure we had enough and it was all gone. Many of the guests asked for seconds and wanted to take more home. I don't know what she does, but she's a genius with cake batter. When we went for the tasting, we just wanted more! They delivered on time (and it was at the San Diego military base) and set up for us...the cake was the hit of the reception!

Shirley did our cake way back in 2002. Like many of the other reviews here we went to many tastings and hers was the moistest (sp) most flavorful of all we tried. I loved that she did the non-dairy as she explained then the cake did not have to be refrigerated and then you have the chance of melting or other problems. My biggest thing w/ Shirley was definately her assurance that she could give me the cake I wanted. I had a picture that had vertical stripes on it. Stripes and cake were all white, since she only works w/ the non dairy obviously the stripes could not be done in the frosting. Well she was determined to find something she could do so I couldhave that cake, and she came up w/ the idea to use white satin ribbon. It looked so much more beautiful than I could have ever imagined.

Shirley is the sweeeeetest lady. Not only does she make great, tasty, & beautiful cakes, she really cares about her brides. We had 3-tiered cake & 2 sheet cakes for 155 people for only a little over $500. She even matched the color of the cake to the green of our wedding motif! I loved it. & she's awesome. (=

She was fabulous. Felt like family. The cake far surpassed my expectations, and was the most delicious I have ever tasted. Absolutely beautiful.

Shirley is the sweetest old lady you will ever meet! Not to mention her cakes are out of this world. To feed 240 people, I got a 3-tier cake and 2 half sheet cakes for a total of $530 including delivery. Each cake was a seperate flavor and she even made me a small personalized cake just for me! Since, I was so worried I wouldn't get to taste the carmel toffee at my reception.

She is the winner of best vendor on multiple blogs 3 years running, though she's been baking for well over that. If you have not chosen a cake, schedule a free tasting with Shirley! She's the best and so is her French White Raspberry cake!!!

I ordered an extra sheet cake so I could take some cake home and the next morning I went to get my leftovers to find out that all the cake was gone. I found out that a lot of people asked for seconds!!! Shirley Resnick made the best cake ever. I've already requested another sheet cake!

AMAZING!!! Shirley is THE BEST, and her cakes are the best tasting anywhere. Also a great value. She is a chatty one, and she just loves helping you get what you want for your day. She doesn't do fondant, but that's ok because her cakes are designed for taste!!!

Shirley Resnick makes the best wedding cakes hands down. Most cakes look nice but don't taste very good. Shirley's cakes look fabulous and taste even better. My guests raved about the cake - especially the Bailey's Irish Cream flavor.

Shirley is truly the best cake lady in San Diego. Not only do her cakes taste amazing and look fantastic, they are reasonably priced! Shirley truly does her passion and you can see it in her cakes. She doesn't over-charge you for the process of making the cake and her cakes taste better. After going to a couple different places to find a cake vendor I thought she was the most reasonable, better tasting and more reliable vendor. Our cake turned out beautifully.

The best tasting wedding cake anyone has ever had! EVERYONE loved our cake. We were able to have 3 different flavors and they were all soo good. The frosting is the best- white and fluffy, not too sweet, but it complements the flavor of the cake perfectly. Good price, too, compared to any other bakery I researched in the area. I found it really inconvenient to have to drive all the way to her house (about 1/2 hour outside of San Diego) for the cake tasting and then to return the cake parts after the wedding... but it was something I was willing to do to have the best wedding cake ever.

Shirley is absolutely just amazing. Her cakes are delicious, and she is hilarious. I asked her to something very different than what she had ever done before for my wedding cake, and she did it. Her cakes are special in the way she makes them, so it is hard to put variation into the frosting, but she knew I really wanted it, and she made it work! It ended up looking beautiful and everyone loved the taste of it! I will be using her for any future cakes I might need!

Shirley Resnick, The Cake Lady, is a wonderful woman. She makes all of her cakes fresh and they are YUM YUM TASTY! We ordered a larger cake than we needed (by about 25 servings) and we still ran out of the Amaretto Poppy Seed. It was gone in seconds! We also had the more traditional white cake with strawberry swirl, which was also delicious, but didn't disappear quite as quickly. I guess our guests were more adventurous than traditional! The cake was beautiful, delicious, and at a VERY reasonable price. The reason I gave her 4 stars for flexibility is that she only has one frosting style. I didn't care about that, it was delicious and beautiful. It actually just made it a lot easier for me than to have choose between all those other types. Her cake was so much better and so much cheaper than so many other places, I can't see why you'd choose anyone else!

Beautiful, wonderful, delicious - and that's just Shirley herself! The cakes are even better! We met Shirley at a catering fair where my intended fell in love with the amaretto cake. We stayed and chatted with the crew and sampled flavors and within 20 mins, we had decided everything we needed for our 130-guest wedding. Major plus that they were experienced dealing with military, since our wedding and reception were on base on Coronado. I am still getting questions and raves about the amazing cake. Excellent value and very great service! We are going to have to work something out for our anniversary, because that amaretto layer we intended to save was gobbled up - we couldn't resist :)

Shirley is the BEST in cakes for Quality, Taste, and Value! My husband and I had no idea what we were getting into when we went to our cake tasting w/Shirley! She greets you like family with a kiss on the cheek and a big hug. Our tastings were very generous portions. We left extremely full and we didn't even eat dinner before or after the tasting! Shirley was never pushy or all about business. She had great conversations with us and still was able to be professional.

On our wedding day our beautiful cake was displayed right next to our sweetheart table. The cake was moist and flavorful, just like it was at our cake tasting! Thank goodness Shirley's prices are affordable, b/c we had 267 guests to serve. I recommend Shirley for her services and b/c she is so pleasant to work with!

I definitely plan on ordering cakes from Shirley for future special events!

Shirley is the sweetest, spunkiest old lady you’ll ever meet, and she makes a delicious cake. If you’re looking for a fondant masterpiece, she’s probably not for you. She does a nice butter cream, and her sweet spot is simple designs. Her samples are a pretty decent size, so when you go, make sure you haven’t eaten dinner yet.

We ended up getting three different flavors: Double Chocolate (fudge and raspberry filling), Amaretto Poppy Seed, and Caramel English Toffee with almonds. It was delicious and moist. Many guests said it was the best wedding cake they’d ever had. It was more important to us that the cake taste good, than just look good. Lucky for us though, it turned out beautiful too! You can have your cake and eat it too ;)

If Shirley does one thing well, she tries to save you money. We got a three-tier cake and some sheet cakes. We originally thought our numbers were going to be 200. In the last week or so, we found out our final number was 176. Listening to Brenda’s advice we told her we needed cake for about 150.

The amount was perfect. We didn’t have any cake left over! Kind of wish we did, but we’ll probably just order a cake from her on our anniversary so it’s nice and fresh. The Amaretto Poppy Seed is to die for! Mmmm….I get hungry just thinking about it.

I paid her a little over, counting tip and everything. She actually sent me back a check in the mail and told me to save the money. She’s just too nice!

If she’s available, I would definitely book her!

The cake turned out amazing. Everybody loved how it looked and tasted.
It was so much fun to pick the cake out and the various flavors. Shirley is great at what she does. I could not have wished for a better cake.

Shirley provided a chocolate cake and white cake for our small wedding reception. Both cakes were wonderful and did not taste like your run-of-the-mill wedding/bakery cakes. There's just something a little different about her cakes that make them taste homeade and personal. She was a joy to work with, much like talking to a family member or friend. She's very flexible and does everything she can to accomodate your needs. I would highly recommend her. Mmmm, I wish I could get another cake from her, but we live 5 states away! Too bad....

Shirley invited me and my fiance into her own home to taste all of her wonderful cakes. She makes the best cake I have ever tasted. She uses a non-dairy frosting, so it is good for those with food allergies. They are just beautiful cakes. She will not make anything using fondant, so don't ask. But if you like frosting, she does a fantastic job. If anything, just go to a tasting! Now, she is a bit of a crazy lady with lots of personality. But she is the most loving person, she cries when she sees the brides on their wedding day. She does this for the right reason and isn't trying to make lots of money off of it. She told me that we should order cake for everyone attending and I was hesitant because you always hear to order for 75% of those coming, well, we ordered for everyone and there wasn't a piece left!! She has been making cakes for over 20 years! She knows what she is doing!
