Hands down, the sweetest and most talented alterations expert I could’ve asked for. She knew exactly what to do—without me even having to say a single thing. Her attention to detail, calm presence, and experience made the entire process smooth and stress-free.
My dress fit like it was made just for me (because after her magic, it basically was!). I’m so thankful for her care and expertise—she made me feel confident, comfortable, and truly beautiful on my wedding day. -

Sew Elegant saved my wedding dress.
At the recommendation of several friends, I went to Alts for my first bridal fitting—and the experience was horrific. I’m extremely flat chested, and I wanted to take in the bust of my dress, and Alts’ solution was to stuff the chest with inserts and take in the neckline to fit against me. When I asked about taking the chest in, they said it would be “too big a job.” For the ill-fitting solution, they quoted me $1600—nearly the cost of the dress. I left crying.
Luckily, Sew Elegant was recommended by a local NYC facebook group and took one look at my flat chest in the dress and began pinning accordingly. Esin heard my sob story and was horrified, shaking her head and tsking, knowing that was not a feasible solution. She explained that she works on a custom mannequin with your measurements do every single alteration, so it’s literally made to fit your specific body. She is so incredibly talented. The final dress was magical. Yes, it was a big job. I had to have the bust completely taken apart and made significantly smaller, but it was done perfectly. Like couture.I danced all night without worrying that anything was going to gap or fall. She also managed to create the most stunning bustle I had ever seen from my incredibly long train—oh, and I paid less than I would have at Alts for this custom perfection.

Esin and her team are absolutely phenomenal and perfected my dream dress on a tight timeline. I purchased my dress at Lovely Bride, and was nervous about altering the dress too far in advance in case my weight changed. Given the material of my dress, Esin suggested we do my fitting in mid-October for my early December wedding. Esin came recommended by Lovely Bride and she has worked on the dresses of dignitaries, former First Ladies, and countless brides, so I knew I was in great hands! My dress needed to be taken in significantly, hemmed, and bustled, and I also wanted to alter the slit to fall below the knee instead of at mid-thigh. Esin and her team perfected all the work in three appointments over less than six weeks. My dress fit me like a glove and was exactly what I was hoping for. Specifically, Esin transformed the slit into something that was more modest and subtle - allowing movement and showing my shoes - without changing the structure of the dress. The bustle was super user friendly and lightweight. Throughout the process, Esin was kind, encouraging, and complimentary, making me feel comfortable and right at home in her studio. She even gave me a “something blue” for our wedding. Thank you Esin and team for my perfect dress! -

Esin might just have the most calming, soothing energy I’ve ever experienced from someone! Getting my dress altered was one of the things I was the most nervous for during wedding planning, and Esin and everyone at Sew Elegant were just so reassuring and helpful throughout the process. She made my dress fit me like a glove. I have a rather large chest, and she altered the top of the dress so well I didn’t even need to wear a bra — honestly a true miracle!! She also added a bustle to my dress that lasted throughout the entire night and she walked my bridesmaids through how to bustle it for me. Without a doubt this was the best money I spent during wedding planning — know you’re in good hands with your wedding dress with Sew Elegant! -

Esin is incredible! She was patient and offers great expertise. My dress had a lot of intricate beading on the top half. However, Esin’s alterations made the dress fit me perfectly and seemed as though the alterations did not occurred because the beading and detailing stayed intact! I was so comfortable on my wedding day. I loved each fitting (3 in total). She showered me with kindness and it truly was the least stressful step of my wedding process. She is so talented and kind! I cannot say enough good things about Esin and truly wish her the best! -

Sew Elegant is the BEST. Period. They were recommended to me by my bridal shop and I couldn’t be happier with how my dress turned out. I had my dress tailored back home in MA, but decided I wanted to make some last minute changes at the hips before the big day. They made an appointment for me the following weekend and made all alterations in less than a week’s time so I could have my dress back with plenty of time to spare. Esin was just wonderful. She truly listened to what I envisioned and showed me exactly how she would do it. She let me take all the time I needed to come to a decision. When I went to pick it up, it was perfect - exactly how I wanted it. She didn’t charge me for the alterations saying, “It was nothing. I just want to see you happy.” This type of kindness and generosity is very hard to come by in the wedding industry. I was just shocked, but so grateful for their work. Esin at Sew Elegant truly cares and wants you to be happy. I cannot recommend them enough! -

My experience at Sew Elegant has been absolutely wonderful so far. They were recommended to me by Jenny Yoo, the designer of my dress. From the moment I stepped into the store, I felt like family. Esin and her team are so warm, kind, and accommodating. They have made each fitting easy and completely stress free. I am so excited to see the final results and feel confident on my wedding day in my perfectly fitted dress thanks to them! Highly, highly recommend to all brides! -

Amazing work
My experience with Sew Elegant was incredible. They were recommended to me by Glamour Closet, where I bought an extremely oversized, off-the-rack dress that I just knew was "the one" but needed to be completely remade. As such, the alterations cost more than the dress itself but I knew that was going to be the case and I'm happy I paid the price for a proper alteration team.
Originally the timeline for alteration was 2 months, but because of COVID-19 I only had 3 weeks from when businesses were allowed to reopen until my wedding--and Sew Elegant worked their magic quickly for me! The dress had to be completely reshaped--from a size 14 to about a size 6--and I also wanted to separate the outermost skirt layer from the rest so it could be worn with or without it.
The first appointment prior to COVID was with Esin, who made my mom and I feel very comfortable with her warmth and thoughtfulness. Then once businesses reopened I had 3 appointments in under 3 weeks with Sina and Halinka doing the majority of the heavy lifting on that actual alteration. Sina was tireless during my first fitting in pinning up the dress and talking through the intended alterations with me and my mom (who was on Facetime from RI)- she also was very available by phone to touch base while there was COVID uncertainty. And Halinka blew our minds with her seamstressing- she is absolutely remarkable- a perfectionist and professional at the highest level.
I took a risk hoping that I could find a seamstress that could see through the enormous pile of fabric that I bought and understand my vision for the outcome- and I'm so lucky that I went with Sew Elegant. Highly recommend! -

Sew Elegant was recommended to me by 2 separate bridal stores along with my sister-in-law as well as my best friend whom both used Sew Elegant over the last 2 yrs for their wedding gowns. I disagree with some of the comments below regarding cost.. I found the cost to be fair and comparable to the other quotes I received (and lower than the rate I would have paid at RK bridal). She was sweet as pie and the environment is 0 stress and all the support. The staff is SO nice, accommodating and they treat you like a princess (which I imagine is hard considering EVERYone walking through the door is in full on bride mode).

Anna Sent on 07/25/2013I highly recommend Esin and the team at Sew Elegant! I was looking for a talented, dependable professional who knows how to work with vintage clothing. Esin went above and beyond my wildest expectations.
Esin was a joy to work with. She was quick to respond to my phone calls, and did a great job of scheduling out the alteration process. I enjoyed my visits to her location-- Esin’s caring personality made the wedding planning so much more pleasurable.
Esin did an amazing job of listening to me while also giving me the feedback I needed. I wore my mother’s vintage lace dress for the ceremony. It’s a beautiful dress, but it is very old and needed some substantial work! Esin helped me figure out exactly what needed to be done.
The prices weren’t cheap, but the magic she worked was priceless. When I tried on the dress at the final fitting, I was floored. It fit like a glove! It made a big difference to wear a wedding gown that felt like it was created for me.
I couldn’t have been happier with Esin’s work on my dress. She is an amazing artist and a trustworthy, caring professional. I highly recommend Esin and Sew Elegant! -

Her meticulousness and her ability to make me feel like a princess standing in a small room in front of a mirror is beyond anything I could ever have imagined.
When I first came to see Esin I knew that a lot of work would be needed. I'm quite short and my dress had an extreme amount of detail and lace on the bottom that I was not willing to lose. As I returned each time for my fittings the dress was quickly turning into a masterpiece. Esin's ability to recreate a dress to make it seem like it was designed for you, is overwhelming and spectacular.
If I could go back to see Esin daily I would. Her energy and her passion for what she does, is like no other.
My dress was the highlight of the evening, and I couldn't have been happier.
I can't wait to send her a picture!

I purchased my dress out of state in order to get with my Grandmother, but as a result had an impossible time finding somewhere for the alterations. Sew Elegant was recommended and I'm so glad that was the case. I had a Flora gown that was on Sample Sale and had a fair amount of alterations required - it was a very complicated dress but after three visits it fit like a glove. Everyone thought the dress was made for me. On top of that, Esin was an absolute delight and made me feel very special - it was great fun since I don't have any family near by to enjoy the process with. It was expensive ($900), but worth every penny. -

I wouldn’t even recommend this place to my WORST ENEMY. No bride should have to go through what I experienced here.
From the beginning, the process was chaotic and misleading. At my initial appointment, I clearly explained the alterations I needed: unlining the bodice, taking in the dress, adding lace to the neckline, adding a bow at the waist, and adding a CRINOLINE TO THE SKIRT. I was quoted FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS, which already felt excessive.
When I returned to review everything, the owner denied ever agreeing to unline the bodice and made me feel like I had imagined the conversation. It was incredibly frustrating and honestly upsetting. Only after I pointed out that it was written in THEIR OWN NOTES did they reluctantly agree to include it.
Trying to adjust the scope to reduce costs turned into an even worse experience. When I called to REMOVE the crinoline from the skirt and asked for an updated price breakdown, I was met with SHOCKING hostility. The assistant raised her voice, spoke to me in an extremely disrespectful way, and told me to come pick up my dress if I was “trying to negotiate,” which I was NOT. I was simply trying to make the alterations more affordable. She refused to provide an ITEMIZED breakdown and instead doubled down on being aggressive and dismissive.
She also told me that if I removed the skirt alteration, the bodice alone would cost TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS and that she would NOT adjust pricing to reflect the reduced work.
When I went to pick up my dress, the same assistant avoided eye contact and denied the entire interaction. A coworker who overheard the phone call came with me and confirmed EXACTLY how I was spoken to. Even then, there was NO apology, NO accountability, and NO attempt to make things right.
The lack of professionalism, transparency, and basic respect is honestly SHOCKING, especially for a business working with brides during such an important time.
I left feeling disrespected, dismissed, and completely unsupported. This was one of the WORST customer service experiences I’ve ever had.
DO NOT go here unless you are prepared for a stressful and deeply disappointing experience.
