Wonderful Venue

My husband and I booked the Rathskeller before Covid hit and had met with the staff there a few times to tour/plan/taste food. Unfortunately we never got to have our big wedding due to covid (our decision to cancel and not postpone), but I wanted to write a review on here anyway because the Rathskeller was so wonderful to work with during that difficult time. The staff there was patient, understanding, and accommodating. The people that work there are good people and it was a huge weight off our shoulders knowing we could trust them. Even though we did not go through with our big wedding, they are first on our list to call if we ever host any type of event.

Wedding Reception

This venue is seriously beautiful. Don’t even remember how I came across this venue one day while searching for a place to have my wedding reception, but I am so glad I did. They are so easy to work with and answer any questions you may have in a timely manner. The venue is the perfect size and the dance floor is big enough for everyone attending to be able to dance the night away. The food is delicious and the service during the reception was very quick and on time. I loved everything about this venue and would highly recommend.

We had to move the date of our wedding up due to unfortunate circumstances, and they worked with us to schedule everything within a matter of a couple months. Brooke was an amazing contact, and even when we had a miscommunication she was overly accommodating and made sure everything went smoothly. We had a small wedding and a small budget, and everything managed to fit into that nicely. Chloe was an amazing hostess and kept everything in line the day of, and Michael the bartender was a delight. We couldn't have asked for a better experience in a more unique and beautiful venue for our wedding. And after all was said and done, we were able to go downstairs and hang out in the Biergarten for a while, which is a built-in afterparty!

We had our rehearsal dinner at The Rathskeller and everything was great. The food and drinks were amazing. The way the rooms were set up were just beautiful. The whole thing was planned by my FIL who lives in New Jersey and communication via email and phone calls were excellent.

We had our rehearsal dinner in the Vonnegut Room at the Rathskeller. The event staff at the Rathskeller are amazing. They made us a customized menu for our rehearsal dinner that was our wedding colors and even had a picture of us on it. The food was delicious and the service was great. I will definitely be using the Rathskeller in the future for events I may plan!

The Rathskeller was the perfect option for us for rehearsal dinner. We are craft beer lovers and they had a great selection with a private room. We got to pick our menu and when we arrived they were personalized for us including our wedding colors. The meal was amazing and the service was great. I'm sure having the actual wedding reception there would be just as good as they did a fabulous job on our rehearsal dinner.

We used the ladies sitting room for our wedding reception and could not have been happier with the services provided. Tiffany was our wedding coordinator, and she was wonderful and helpful with us planning our reception. Everything went smoothly without any issues. We appreciated the staff's help, and they were wonderful throughout. We were always told that the Rathskeller was expensive, but we looked at a lot of different options, and we feel that they are reasonably priced for the area and what you get.

I LOVED our wedding at the Rathskeller. It turned out to be a perfect choice and I couldn't recommend it enough! It allowed us to have a downtown elegant wedding without completely busting our budget. I loved the flexibility the Rathskeller allowed and the fact that they didn't seem to nickel and dime us on every little thing. We loved working with Josh and the fact that he was a straight shooter. Because it is a restaurant, the food was delicious! Everything was handled so professionally and I'm so glad we chose the Rathskeller. We did a cost analysis of some of the top downtown venues and this was by far the best bang for the buck. I was worried that might be reflected on our wedding day, but I almost cried when we came into the reception - it was perfect! I couldn't have been happier with our choice of reception location!

We hosted our reception at the rathskeller and everything was perfect. The food was delish. I was impressed with the staff and everything they did for us.

I thoroughly enjoyed working with The Rathskeller for our wedding reception. They were very quick to responding to our needs and they were budget friendly, being sure not to have any hidden fees. The planning process was a cinch and it made for a stress free reception. On the morning of, my florist and decorator were able to get into the ballroom early without problems to set up and make everything look lovely. On the night of, the food was delicious and we received an abundance of compliments from our guests. The wait staff was also very helpful and accommodating to everyone's needs. The Rathskeller really outdid themselves as hosts for our wedding reception!

The Rathskeller was by far my favorite location we looked at and it happened to be the most inexpensive (for the size venue we needed). The wedding coordinators were very on top of everything both in the planning of our event as well as the night of. I had a vision and they helped me plan it out. Food was also INCREDIBLE!!! If you're wanting an open or partial open bar at your wedding, you can't get any better bang for your buck than the Rathskeller!!! Highly recommend to anyone!!

I had my reception at the Rathskeller, and they also catered. The food was incredible! We had a very large menu to choose from, and we got to come in and sample for free. We had so many compliments at the reception on how wonderful the food was. They were very easy to communicate with and very well priced, especially compared to the other venues in Indy! I definitely recommend it!

Josh at the Rathskeller was very knowledgeable and helpful. He answered all of my questions, usually the same day I emailed/called him (and I had a lot of questions haha). The day of the staff was very helpful in setting everything up the way we wanted, and helping us stay on schedule. The room looked beautiful, they also provided a room for me and my bridal party to get ready, and they let us know when it was time to do what. They even dealt with my father very well...who happened to have one too many drinks that night. I would highly recommend this venue to any bride planning their wedding. The food was also delicious!

Wonderful place to have your wedding. Food was great, the manager, Joshua, was able to assist me with everything we needed and the staff was very proffesional.

The staff at the Rathskeller were instrumental in making my wedding day the amazing celebration that it was. They were professional and courteous. They went above and beyond to make me feel like a queen for the day. We had our ceremony and reception in the upper ballroom. We were so pleased with the facility, food and service.

We got married at the Athanaeum Theater next door to the Rathskeller, but they were in charge of all the planning and food service so we dealt entirely with the Rathskeller. The theater is technically a foundation separate from the restaurant. We had both our ceremony and reception here and it was beautiful. The food was delicious (everyone commented) and the cheapest I could find in the downtown area. There is a minimum for the room-- 175 people. It was around 18.50-19.00 a person. We had many planning times and emails back and forth and Mary Yoder was great about answering all my questions and changing around the proposal for the wedding. Although we had to pay a hefty deposit for the room (all up front because it is a separate foundation), I thought it was totally worth it. It was a unique, huge, absolutely beautiful venue. And it is so large and gorgeous by itself that there wasn't even that much decorating to do! All in all, loved it.

The Rathskeller was the perfect place for us to hold both our ceremony and reception. They provided a room for the entire bridal party to prepare in. They also served us appetizers after the ceremony while our guests were having cocktails and waiting for us to arrive. The staff was very friendly and willing to go the extra mile to make us happy. Bravo!

We recently had our wedding in the Kerssaal Ballroom, and it was absolutely beautiful. Even though we did not meet the minimum guest requirement, 200 people, you can still reserve the room as long as you agree to pay for that amount. That part was a little annoying, but worth it. I would recommend working with Mary instead of Josh, we started out emailing Josh, and his answers always seemed a bit snippy. Mary was the one who did the tasting, and she was absolutely wonderful. She always seemed genuinely happy for us, and on my wedding day she could not have been more helpful. She kept checking on me and my bridesmaids, asking if we needed anything, and after the ceremony, she even helped bustle my dress! She set up and organized everything beautifully, and had the room set up exactly how I wanted it. She answered all of my many questions very quickly, and never made me worry about a thing. She definitely helped to make my wedding, and the planning, as pleasurable as she could!!

Great venue, good food, just wished they had thought of the little things. Have to be specific about what you want because they won't think of these things for you. It would be nice for them to think proactively like prepare a to go box with goodies for us after the reception was over. We got to our hotel and we were starved.

I LOVE this place! I worked with Tiffany S. who helped coordinate our reception. She was very helpful and always responded to my emails in a timely manner. She was always friendly about it too, even if I sent her 10 emails a day!

ROOM: The reception room was amazing! We rented the Kellersaal ballroom, and while it was a little pricey to rent, it is so nice itself that you don't need much décor. Everyone complimented the venue.

FOOD: The food was hands down the best wedding food I have ever had; and I'm not just saying that because it was my wedding. I did not hear one bad comment about it; only great things! We even used cheesecake as our dessert instead of wedding cake, which was included in our dinner. Price was great too! We only spent $20 pp and had 2 entrees, 2 sides, rolls and dessert.

SERVICE: The service was exceptional! The bartender personally made sure that my husband and I had something to drink at all times (if we wanted). The coordinator was on top of things as well, asking me questions when necessary and just keeping me in the loop with the events throughout the night.

Overall, I am so happy we choose The Rathskeller. We wanted a downtown wedding/reception without the expensive price tag. Our reception for 200 guests with food, 2 kegs and bottles of wine ended up around $8,500. Most places downtown require you to spend $10,000 on food alone, so it was very affordable and the service could not be beat!

We booked the upper ballroom for our wedding and reception. We had about 80 guest and it was almost the perfect size for our wedding. I wouldn't recommend wedding larger than 100 guests for that particular room, but they have other rooms available that are also very nice.
The food was delicious, our wedding coordinator was very responsive and helpful, and the service staff was professional and didn't get in the way. The upper ballroom is all hardwood and they arrange the room so there is space in the middle for a dance floor if you want. You need to bring in your own decorations, but I think that makes the space much more personal for your wedding (but a little stressful when you're setting up). They include the sound system in the room rental and the prices are incredibly reasonable.
I would absolutely recommend the Rathskeller for any event.

The Rathskeller was a great vendor to work with. The customer service response was always speedy. The food was good: a little spicy, i wish we would have had a tasting first (our fault). The Rathskeller provided us with many bonuses including rooms for our cocktail hour and a dressing room in which our wedding party could recoup before the ceremony. They are reception pros and I had no worries the day of. They were willing to work with us down to the last detail at the last minute. They also helped us to work within our budget. You can't beat the location, and parking was not a problem. We are so glad we chose them!

Rathskeller was a great venue for our budget. We looked at many venues that were overpriced, but the Rathskeller offered an overall amazing experience that was comfortable for our wallets. I would recommend the Rathskeller to any group looking to host an event. Amazing food, beautiful environment, and a fun atmosphere!

Our Rathskeller reception was beautiful and the food was delicious. There were no major issues and we had a great time, but there were a couple miscommunications along the way. It seemed that every time we met with them we were meeting with a different person. One of their staff members was not in uniform for our event. The signage inside the building was not what I would have expected. The signs for the event in the room next to ours obscured the hallway to get to our event so much that I thought we were in the wrong part of the building. The Rathskeller supplied day of event manager told our DJ's to make announcements before things were actually set up and ready to go. That being said, it was a beautiful space and we had a great time. All of the issues were small and very few people noticed.

We originally put a deposit of $250 for this venue for the wedding, but financial hard times came knocking and instead of having to lose that money, we were able to have a small rehearsal dinner. Thank you so much to the kindness and care Tiffany did for us and to all who use The Rathskeller as a vendor. My own complaint was how expensive the food was. Yes, it was delicious but I've had better cheaper. All in all, a wonderful night.

I had my wedding here recently. The venue was beautiful and it was a great time! Josh was great to work with but the people that worked the night of the event were awful!! One of the guys that worked there got into it with a groomsmen and with my husband. When there was an issue they did not handle it professionally at all.

Planning was a nightmare. We wanted beer and wine, and they took it upon themselves to add a cash bar. The room also felt like it was a hundred degrees -- whether it was a problem with the air conditioning or someone cranking up the thermostat, the problem didn't get resolved in a timely manner, even after numerous guests complained to the staff about the heat.
