I cannot recommend Pure Cupcakes enough! They make the absolute best gluten free/vegan cupcakes! So good that I ordered some for my wedding for the guests that are gluten free, dairy free, and vegan. They LOVED them, and it was a special touch to have a dessert option for the people with dietary restrictions/allergies. They even made the frosting color dusty blue to match the bridesmaids dresses.

This is hands down my favorite cupcake shop of all time. Best flavors are Tiramisu & Vietnamese Coffee ;). I knew I wanted to order at least some cupcakes, if not my actual wedding cake from them. After reaching out to Mary, I hadn't realized that their cakes are way more affordable than other wedding cake vendors out there -- which was a HUGE bonus for me. I gave Mary my preferences on flowers as well as color theme & pretty much gave her the go-ahead to design it in a way she felt best with my theme. The cake was ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. It was exactly what I wanted, simple but also elegant.
Can I also add that there was no cake left by the end of the night; not even ONE slice! It's been a month since our wedding and I ordered another cake from them for a friend's birthday :). Per her request because she thought our wedding cake was amazing.
I recommend them to everyone! You will not regret getting your cake/cupcakes from PURE cupcakes! -

Five or six years ago, I was working in PB and I went to get lunch at a nearby Thai restaurant. As I walked up, I noticed a new cupcake shop had set up shop next door. Since I absolutely love cupcakes, I decided to check it out. Thus began my love affair with Pure Cupcakes.
Everything I’ve had here has been absolutely amazing. The frosting is not too sweet, the cake is always deliciously moist, and the flavors are on point. My favorite is the rol-e-ol-ee-o, followed closely by the salted caramel. Other popular picks among my friends are the tiramisu, peach cobbler, and the strawbs.
As my love grew, I knew that if I ever had a wedding, I wanted Pure Cupcakes to be there. When I did get engaged, I got in touch with Mary, the owner. While there was some initial communication snafus, Mary definitely came through. I asked for a ton of cupcakes, along with a smaller custom cake for cutting. I asked for a cake that looked like a stack of books. My now husband and I selected a few of our favorite book titles, and the resulting cake was gorgeous. She handled the setup and delivery, and everything was perfect. Even though I ordered twice the number of cupcakes as guests, by the end of the night, there were no cupcakes left because everyone took some home! We got so many compliments on the cupcakes, and I was so pleased to tell everyone how easy they are to acquire.
The best part is that since they have a brick and mortar shop, I get to stop by anytime and have a sweet reminder of my wedding. Thank you, Mary and Pure Cupcakes, for making what I think are the best cupcakes in San Diego! -

Daynia Sent on 05/18/2017We had so many people come up to us and ask where we got our cake. PURE Cupcakes truly does make the best cake and cupcakes! The cake disappeared in a blink of an eye. My husband and I didn't even get a piece after we cut the cake it went so fast! We liked it so much we ate the top layer their saved for our one year anniversary the next day. -
User2610085 Sent on 05/16/2016We ordered 12 dozen cupcakes for our wedding reception (not the cutting cake, though; a friend did our cake). They were DELICIOUS and our guests were thrilled! Gourmet cupcakes, amazing flavors, gluten-free options, and very affordable, competitive pricing compared to most wedding dessert options in Sam Diego. We are so glad we went with them and thoroughly enjoyed the leftover cupcakes after the wedding! Thanks, PURE Cupcakes! -

We also got a small wedding cake so that we could still do the cake cutting. Cookies & Cream, Rol-e-o-e-lo, red velvet and vanilla bean were my favorites!! -
User1572931 Sent on 04/01/2014We decided to go with a cupcake tower for our wedding with a small cutting cake on top to do the traditional cake cutting with the sword for our Navy Wedding.
We did mini cupcakes and budgeted for multiples available for each guest and were able to put together 5 different flavors for the day. The tower was beautiful and elegant and the minis were an amazing hit ... everyone loved being able to try multiple flavors. They cupcakes were absolutely amazing, rich, moist, and beautiful. We made the perfect choice!! -

We used Pure Cupcakes for our 3-tier wedding cake and it was absolutely stunning and delicious! Mary & her team absolutely crushed our vision and all of our guests raved about how delicious the cake was. Look no further than pure cupcakes for all your sweet treat needs! -

The only complaint is that we had an evening wedding and They wanted to deliver the cake and cupcakes early in the day because they had booked several weddings that day. Ours was an outside venue and we didn't want them to sit in the sun all day.

User1411967 Sent on 10/30/2013We love Pure Cupcakes and frequent the store for a yummy dessert. Between the many choices we had in San Diego for wedding cake/cupcake options we made our choice based on taste. I'm still happy I went with Pure but they were the only vendor in this whole wedding planning experience that weren't lovely to deal with. First, the design/price of our small cutting cake lacked value. Since we were purchasing 200 cupcakes I thought they would have been a little more accommodating to what I wanted for a reasonable price (which trust me wasn't very complex). But I understood, a small business needs to make money and I get it. The part that wasn't so great and made me less than thrilled that we chose to use them, was was dealing with Nicky Black the business partner to baker Mary Sarain. She was unfriendly and cut me off when I called to talk about the cutting cake. I was upset that I was dealing with someone like her just before my wedding so thankfully my groom stepped in to communicate with her. She did turn her attitude around eventually but I was already complete put off with her business skills (especially in the wedding industry)
Lastly, I thought it was strange that they requested the cupcake stand to be returned by 1pm the very next day. My father dropped it off for us but after talking to a few friends that got married this year, they didn't have to return their stands to their bakers for a couple of days (nice and at your convenience). Again, just a little thing that could be avoided with the bakery having more stands or offering to pick it up.
Rating on Cupcakes are 5.0 - SO Delicious!
Rating on Bridal customer service 3.0 (only because every time I dealt with Mary it was delightful, her partner on the hand left a sour taste)
