It’s our 1 year anniversary today and I wish so badly we could happily look back at our wedding photos. Sadly, we can’t. 900+ photos and half of them are throw aways. Here’s the email we sent that she didn’t even respond to:
Prairie,
We have been so hesitant to send this email, because we don’t want to hurt your feelings, and honestly we just kept putting it off because we didn’t want to think about it. But, we do need to express how deeply upset we are about our wedding pictures. We don’t want this to come off too harsh, but we do want to let you know all of the reasons they are disappointing to us.
We felt sending over 900 photos was putting the work of going through to find the “good” ones on us. We were not excited to sort through all of the photos to find the ones to print, share, or post to social medias. We’ve made it through all of the photos sent in one sitting, once since we’ve gotten them.
There was minimal editing, if any. We didn’t expect to have every photo edited a ton, but we did expect to have some of the busyness in background removed, the lighting adjusted, occasional special effects, etc.
We understand you can’t control the lighting at the venue or the sun, but we did expect you to have the experience to be able to work with the surroundings. There were shadows, sun streaks, flashes in the mirrors, and photos with the sun in peoples eyes. The pictures of my dad and me were some of the most important to me, and we’re half in the sun and half in the shadows, which did ruin them for me. Almost all photos of the head table have flashes in the mirrors behind them.
The majority of the guests were not captured in photos. We wanted to create an album to be able to look back on and remember all of the people who came to celebrate with us, and unfortunately we cannot do that. It seems that once we were inside, the photos were focused on only the dance floor and bar, and were repetitive.
There are many photos that have more backs of people than faces. We wanted candid photos, but there are some that we received that don’t have a face in them at all.
We are not professional photographers, we needed guidance on how to create a picture worth hanging in our house to show how much we we love each other and we did not get that. All we have is pictures together, not pictures of how magical we felt that night. We needed your expertise to portray that on a canvas to show the special moment, and sadly, its hard finding a picture that depicts that.
All that being said, there are some good photos. We just expected quite a bit more of them to be great and memorable. We paid for a professional service, but we do not feel we have received a professional product by any means.
