My wife and I loved working with Rhea. We first met her in her Scott's Addition studio and loved getting to see the behind the scenes of it all. We talked about vision, reusing florals, vases, and the general concept of it all. When we received her proposal, we needed to cut it down for budgeting she sent us a new proposal. She showed us the actual vase styles that would be used and fully understood our concepts. It was a great experience working with her and the wedding was perfectly beautiful. One little highlight of our wedding was that my wife and I both love classic murder mysteries and so one of our wedding flowers was digitalis (fox glove). It was just one of the many tiny details Photosynthesis helped us with. From our chuppah to helping us incorporate all four elements into our ceremony and reception decor, Rhea helped make it all come true! (All attached photos are taken by 3 Cats Photo) -

Secret Garden in the City!
Rhea and her team made my vision come to life! She is an artist! We collaborated on all aspects of the design and it came out beautifully. It was important to use locally grown flowers that were in season. The courtyard where our wedding took place had a fountain that we decorated with trailing vines. Our table arrangements were modern and romantic. The flowers were a key component that brought everything else together. I plan to use Photosynthesis Florals at every opportunity in the future. -

100% Recommend!!
We were so happy to have worked with Photosynthesis and Rhea for our September wedding. First of all, Rhea was so easy to work with - she has a very calming, warm demeanor, and was extremely communicative. We started with a one-on-one meeting and discussion so she could determine our needs and vision, then she sent a mockup/mood board of what would be in season and work in the space. The florals and greenery were a key part of the vision for our venue (the Branch Museum of Architecture and Design), and Rhea did absolutely stunning work. We were already in love with our venue, but the addition of all the gorgeous seasonal blooms and lush greenery just put it over the top for us. Of course, she also made the personal arrangements - boutonnieres, corsages, bouquets, and wreath for our dog. They all came out so lovely - I absolutely loved my bouquet - it was exactly what I had envision and described to her. Rhea was also kind enough to allow us to come by her studio after the wedding to pick up our leftover flowers - being able to enjoy them at home (and press some for keepsakes) was so special.
It is also very important to note that we originally had our wedding scheduled for April 2020, but had to reschedule due to COVID. Rhea was so understanding and flexible with rescheduling - she helped make a nightmare scenario much easier on us, and we are so grateful that we had such an awesome group of vendors! -

Rhea is incredibly talented! I was obsessed with how the florals turned out for our wedding. Still waiting on photos from our photographer so will post those on a later date, but everyone raved about how beautiful all of the flowers were. It really made the night spectacular. I knew I wanted to incorporate orchids but gave rhea creative control and so glad I did, the overall floral design turned our better than I could have dreamed it. On top of how beautiful everything was, Rhea was a joy to work with! She was extremely flexible especially given the constant changes 2020 threw at us. She even added an entry piece to the order the week of, which ended up being one of my favorite parts as it was so gorgeous. I can not thank Rhea enough! Photosynthesis was my dream florist and she made my dreams a reality! Book her for your wedding, you will not regret it. -

Rhea's flowers for my wedding in the Cathedral and the Jefferson hotel were amazing. I wanted really colorful wedding flowers in deep fall colors, and low arrangements at tables (so people could see across them!) but otherwise know absolutely nothing about flowers, and Rhea executed my vision perfectly. I was planning my wedding from New York so it was difficult to meet with vendors before hiring them, and I can attest that Photosynthesis is a great choice. Closer to the wedding when I was in Richmond, my mom and I met with Rhea at her studio and she spent a lot of time figuring out what kind of flowers and colors I was drawn to. The other thing I appreciated is that, having never planned a wedding, I had no idea how to budget for flowers, and I felt a lot of other florists I talked to were very opaque about how much gets you what. I felt Rhea was very upfront about what you could get for different budgets, and her proposal included a few different scenarios and their associated cost. Highly, highly recommended. -

If you want your dream wedding flowers to come to life, Rhea is your girl! Rhea was originally recommended to me by my hairstylist and I'm SO glad I listened to her recommendation because Rhea is a dream to work with. She sat me down for a very detailed consultation and what resulted were the most absolutely brilliant bouquets and boutonnieres I could have asked for. My bouquet is now pressed and framed so I can forever enjoy the beautiful arrangement! Overall, I seriously cannot recommend Rhea and Photosynthesis Floral Design enough! -

I am still blown away by the incredible floral design Rhea did for our wedding! Our church venue was not the most visually appealing to start with, but Rhea and her team completely transformed it with some of the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen. When we first met with Rhea, I didn't have much of a vision for my wedding flowers beyond the color palette. After seeing photos of her previous work, I knew I completely trusted her to do her thing and create floral arrangements we would love. The photos speak for themselves — the flowers were truly a work of art and we are still getting compliments on them! We can't thank Rhea and Photosynthesis enough for making our day so beautiful. -

We're still blown away by Rhea Calpeno's and her team at Photosynthesis Design's incredible work. Her bouquets and boutonnieres were absolutely gorgeous, and the final result showed that she clearly took great care to make sure each floral arrangement was carefully designed with our wedding day goals and own personalities in mind. Rhea was very attentive and provided invaluable guidance, getting to know us and helping us visualize our wedding day so that she could deliver an amazing final product. Photos attached!

Extremely talented floral designer
Rhea is an incredible floral designer and was able to make my daughter's wedding day very special due to the floral beauty she brought into the venue. Rhea listens to your desires and offers options to fulfill them. She is also conscious of your budget. We had a visually difficult venue to work with, but Rhea was able to bring creativity and beauty. She and her team do stunning work. The 18 table arrangements were incredibly gorgeous as well as an arch the groom had made to be used during the wedding ceremony. I could not be more pleased and Rhea is an absolute pleasure to work with. We had NUMEROUS compliments. If I could give her more than 5 stars I would. -

Photosynthesis knocked it out of the park at our wedding last weekend! They took our loose vision and ran with it. The arrangements were beautiful, unique, natural, and totally in line with the feel of our wedding. They also designed and executed a gorgeous hanging installation with greenery and lit candles, which set the mood for our dance floor. We couldn't have been more pleased! -

Dream wedding florist!
I absolutely loved working with Rhea and selecting Photosynthesis as my wedding florist was one of my best wedding decisions! She is beyond professional and made the entire process seamless. My mom and I sat in Rhea's studio for hours dreaming up our wedding vision and Rhea was integral in making everything come to life. Her input took our vision to the next level, she would even make suggestions on alternatives to cheaper options. The insulation piece was a centerpiece of the entire wedding and our bouquets were stunning. Rhea is an excellent communicator, professional in every interaction and is creative genius. Beyond happy with how everything turned out and she is officially our go to florist!! -

Photosynthesis created the most beautiful bouquets for our wedding in July 2018. Rhea took in every little detail I mentioned (ferns, herbs, dark greens, etc.) and created the most amazing flowers for me and my bridal party. The moment they arrived is when the wedding day started to feel real -- I honestly tear up remembering that feeling. Thank you Rhea for creating such dreamy blooms. We also did the bulk florals, which was perfect given that I had some talented close friends who took over the ceremony design. Overall, I couldn't have been happier. Rhea and the ladies at Photosynthesis are literal dream makers, if you can book them it's a must. No one understood my vision for my wedding as instantly and as fully as Rhea. She took great care to ask questions, send visuals, and communicate back and forth to create the full vision that was in my head. I was never a florals person, but what they created was art. My vision was the natural garden surroundings overtaking the manmade items, with moss and greenery coming to life, and what she did exceeded all of my expectations. To this day my guests (and most importantly my Mother!) swoon about the installation pieces and my bouquet. They were incredibly professional, attentive, communicative, and remarkably affordable for the quality of work. Hire these artists and sleep easy. Thank you for making my dreams come true, Ladies! -

Rhea is an artist hands down, and I am so glad I was referred to her by another florist who was booked up for my wedding date. For the florals, I really had to trust the florist since it was not feasible to see any mock-ups of the florals months before the wedding (dahlias are just not in season in the summer). But throughout the process where I showed her my photo inspirations and gave her my opinion on changes, Rhea was both professional and responsive, and also reassuring as I started to fret months before the wedding. When I saw the flowers for the first time on my wedding day, it looked even better than I imagined. Thanks Rhea so much for bringing my ideas to fruition! It was more than perfect! -

Rhea at Photosynthesis was AMAZING. She met with my daughter and son-in-law before the wedding and my daughter showed her pictures of what she wanted. Rhea delivered the most beautiful flowers and arrangements I have ever seen. She absolutely got my daughter's style. And Rhea was very willing to work within our budget and give alternatives that were cheaper. The two women who actually came to set up the flowers for the wedding did an outstanding job. -

Rhea was such an important part of our wedding vendor team, and we are so thrilled that we decided to work with her! We wanted our florals to really be different, and boy did she deliver. Even though we were planning from across the country, she made us feel so comfortable with the floral design process. She was also incredibly receptive to additions and changes - we decided in the last month to add a greenery chandelier which she and her team foraged for. It ended up totally making the space!
With Rhea, you'll work with a commiserate professional who also is on the cutting edge of floral design - nothing boring or "been there, done that" to be had with Photosynthesis! -

Flowers were one of the most important aspects to me of our wedding and we loved how everything turned out, from the boutonniere and bouquets, to the centerpieces and the statement installment. Rhea and her team created the most amazing floral arrangements for our wedding even when we had a very last minute rain plan change. We originally planned a large hanging piece under a terrace for our dinner reception, but had to move the reception to a backup place due to the weather. I had a specific image in my head about what I want for the terrace, but had little about the backup venue before, so I told Rhea she could follow her own idea if we end up using the other place. (to be honest, we were so optimistic about the weather before our wedding and didn’t even think we would have to use the rain-plan venue) Thus, when we were told at 10:00am on our wedding day that we needed to move our dinner to another place due to the weather, I had no idea what our floral arrangements would be like. When I first saw the firework-like gorgeous installment Rhea and her team created, I almost cried! It was everything I dreamed about: soft, organic, and stunning! Rhea listened and remembered every detail we shared her before about what we like and what we don’t like, even sometimes we only had a vague idea. She had a fantastic eye for design and had the ability to turn your vision into reality. I had no idea what to expect for my first meeting with Rhea, but I truly couldn't have asked for a better experience. She was able to walk me through a rather overwhelming experience with such patience and expertise. We went through every single potential detail that I may need to think through and she was able to show examples of each option and graciously gave ideas to stay within our budget. I had seen pictures of Rhea's work and fell in love, but I had no idea just how perfect of a job she would do on our wedding day capturing exactly what we wanted. We truly couldn't have asked for a better experience!

She took my basic general ideas and turned them into the most breathtaking arrangements I've ever seen. It was so important to me that we didn't have anything traditional. We didn't want ball bouquets and we didn't want anything anyone had ever seen before. Every single guest was astounded. I will (and already have!) recommend Rhea to EVERY bride I can.
