Unbelievably Amazing!

We had a small wedding (just six people) in the Broderie Room at night and it was simply magical. It was incredibly beautiful and romantic! Lovely Sahara was our coordinator and she did an absolute remarkable job making our day smooth. Anytime I needed anything through out the night, she was ON IT. We couldn't have asked for anyone better. As soon as I met her, I felt comfortable and at ease. Everyone at Phipps, especially Sahara, was responsive to all our questions and concerns. She was understanding and willing to make us happy on our big day... Phipps has so much history, as my husband's family is proudly a part of (history of the bonsai), and to make the Phipps' Broderie room our gorgeous back drop for our ceremony, we were really humbled honestly. Phipps is absolutely stunning at night. If you're looking for a beautiful venue for a small wedding like mine, consider the Broderie Room or any of the gorgeous rooms at Phipps! I mean, you don't even need to worry about flowers except for a bouquet lol. It's worth the memories, the pictures.... just everything!

Amazing!

Phipps was great. Super accommodating to all my questions. The guy at the front desk even carried my dress to the bridal suite when I got there. Sahara was on the ball and kept me informed with everything. The Broderie room was absolutely beautiful! I highly recommend Phipps for your wedding! Thank you for making it a memory I will never forget!!!

Perfect Venue

We fell in love with Phipps on a previous visit to Pittsburgh. When we were deciding on where to get married, we kept coming back to how beautiful Phipps was. And decided this was the place to start our next chapter. The team was incredibly helpful in planning long distance, and took the time to meet with us every time we were in town and needed to go over any questions or details. Lauren, our coordinator, walked us through a lot of little details we hadn't even thought of to ensure our day was perfect.

Perfect Wedding July 2024

Phipps was the only venue we considered and couldn't imagine having our wedding anywhere else. Because it was a week day we also got some substantial discounts. We were lucky enough to work with Caroline through the entire process and I couldn't say enough positive things about her. It was so refreshing to work with someone that was so competent and great at her job. I sent her so many emails and she answered all of my questions with a lot of detail and helpful info. I had high expectations from her and she exceeded them, we’re so thankful for everything she did for us.

Gorgeous Winter Wedding

We absolutely adored having our wedding here this past February! My husband and I met in undergrad and spent many date nights coming to Phipps over the last 10 years and we always thought it would be incredible to get married here. After we got engaged the first place we checked was here and they were available for our winter wedding date! Everyone at Phipps was amazing and extremely helpful with planning our perfect day. Sahara the coordinator was available at all times throughout the entire year of planning. Dave was our go to for all things catering and was transparent and communicative with everything as well. We got married in the Tropical Rain Forest and had our reception in the events hall and everything was exactly how we wanted it. We chose to do a plated dinner and added the soup course (10/10 recommend) and the open bar. All of our guests raved about the beauty of Phipps, the atmosphere and the food. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to hold our wedding and it really was our dream venue made possible by all the amazing staff at Phipps!

Garden @ Phipps = dream wedding!

DREAM WEDDING VENUE! We did the Outdoor Garden for the ceremony + reception, and it was absolutely lovely. We loved working with Caroline Walker in Events+Drinks and Dave Swank in Catering. They are both super on-top-of-it, experts in making weddings exceptional at Phipps. They were so helpful with special things we wanted to do or allergies to accommodate. I also felt I could trust Phipps completely with regards to health and safety standards around COVID-19, which made me much more relaxed. All of their team members were kind, courteous, and professional. If you're considering Phipps, just do it. Absolutely lovely.

The perfect wedding venue!

My wedding was impacted by COVID-19. After a 2.5 year engagement, my now-husband and I were devastated when we had to plan, replan, cancel, and replan our wedding only to cancel it fully again due to the pandemic. While we still decided to be legally married on our wedding date, we looked forward to the thought of taking anniversary photos with our families the following year where we had planned to share our vows (safety permitting).

Amidst the chaos, Phipps--and our event coordinator, Caroline, in particular--proved to be a vendor we could rely on. Caroline was a source of tremendous comfort to us; providing understanding, flexibility, and sympathy every step of the way. She took great care in making sure our anniversary photo session felt just as special as if it were our wedding day all over again. We couldn't have been happier with our experience reserving the Broderie Room, and we look forward to finding an occasion to book with them again.

Amazing Day

We booked Phipps for our wedding reception prior to the pandemic. Planning throughout the ups and downs was difficult, but Katelyn helped us through every step of the way. Despite drastically reducing our guest list, she made every part of our day special and unique. Her attention to detail helped take so much of the planning stress off of us. Her attitude was always positive and we could really tell she loves her job. Any questions we had were answered quickly and she was available to talk when we needed her and make suggestions through the various situations. She connected with our vendors to make everything run smoothly. We got engaged at Phipps and the venue was perfect for our wedding style. We highly recommend the natural beauty of Phipps and the great event staff!

Perfect and easy to plan

Helped make our dream wedding come true

We cannot say enough good things about Phipps and the amazing staff. Caroline Walker and David Swank helped on the events and catering side of things and they were the most pleasant and caring people. Caroline was always so responsive and helpful and even helped me take care of a wedding day emergency when my dress got smudged on a car tire before my first look. Even amongst a global pandemic she made sure that we would have an amazing day and came up with suggestions and ways to still make our day great. On the catering side of things David Swank was also so responsive and always called us to be sure we were up to date on all current policies and information. Having a wedding during a pandemic should have been a painful and difficult process but Phipps took that burden from us. I couldn't imagine having our wedding in any other location. It was truly incredible. Not to mention that our pictures turned out so amazing and the unique backgrounds and colors truly make our wedding photos incredible. The food was also so wonderful and all of our guests raved about how good everything was. The food, service, location, and overall feeling went above and beyond what I ever could have imagined.

Beautiful Location

My Phipps wedding was AMAZING!!!! Katelyn, my coordinator, was wonderful to work with. She knows her stuff and kept her cool even though I was stressed and anxious. Everything went off without a hitch and all the staff were super professional and helpful. I wish I could do it all over again!!

The Perfect Venue

The first time I walked in to Phipps was just about a year ago, and the moment I stepped in (with my Fiancé at the time, now husband) I KNEW I wanted to get married there. This venue fit our personality and definitely went with our non-traditional view on weddings/ our desire for interesting venues. We felt like we could truly be ourselves, and our guests LOVED it.

I have to give the most major props to our contact at Phipps, Caroline Walker. She was the most helpful person I've ever come in contact with (in pretty much my entire life) and made the planning process easy and fun. Even through small hiccups along the way, she did her best to make everything perfect and make sure that I was happy and comfortable. The planning process can get overwhelming for a bride/groom who are doing it themselves, but her help made everything possible and easy-going.

We can't wait to go back and visit in the future, there are so many memories made on our wedding night with all of our family and friends in attendance. Thank you Phipps!

Beautiful and Affordable Spot for Intimate Wedding

We rented the Broderie room for 90 minutes for our intimate wedding ceremony. It was beautiful and affordable! Our coordinator Sahara was helpful and responsive. I really couldn't believe that one of the top wedding venues in the country could be within our small budget.

Broderie Room - Ceremony Only

Flawlessly beautiful and elegant... with great service!

Phipps Conservatory was the best choice we could have made. The venue is gorgeous and elegant and made for the perfect setting for our special day. The prices were on par with other vendors (like country clubs), so the choice was easy for us! Our guests were in awe at the beauty of the Broderie Room and the food was also delicious. We got a harpist and it made the Broderie Room even more elegant (Stephanie Miller of Music for Life of Pittsburgh. We also highly recommend her, as she is extremely talented and really great to work with!)
Caroline was our wedding planner at Phipps and she made everything go flawlessly. We are so thankful for her help during the planning and the actual wedding. We will have perfect memories of our special day because of this venue and their staff.

9/22/18 Wedding

I truly cannot say enough good things about this venue or the staff. Phipps had been my dream wedding venue since I was a little girl, so I'm sure my expectations were exceptionally high...and they absolutely nailed it. I wish I could have a Phipps wedding every weekend!
My husband and I had both our ceremony (Outdoor Garden) and reception (Tropical Rainforest and Special Events Hall) there and mostly worked with David Swank and Allanah Ebenstein who were both PHENOMENAL! We truly feel like they are family after going through the whole experience. The beauty of the venue speaks for itself, but everything else was top notch, as well! Allanah made sure the day flowed perfectly and was at my beckon call whenever I needed her. She and David were always so quick to respond to texts, phone calls, e-mails, you name it, whenever we had a question or concern. They both went above and beyond to ensure everything was flawless throughout the whole planning process. Seriously, no details were missed...from the way I wanted the plates angled, to the way I wanted the linen colors staggered on the cocktail tables, to the way I wanted the votives placed. Even the cookie table was more beautiful than I ever expected. And the food...omg the food! The hors d'oeuvres were just as delicious as the dinner selections! People are still talking about how great our food was!
Our wedding at Phipps completely exceeded all of our expectations in every way. Our guests tell us all the time that ours was the best wedding they'd ever attended...and that is all thanks to the venue we chose and their fabulous staff!

We had our wedding ceremony and reception at the Outdoor Garden at Phipps and it surpassed everything I could have dreamed of. The setting is just breathtaking and the staff was very responsive to communication questions - included setup, decoration, catering, bar, and general question. The food was phenomenal. Everyone says the bride doesn't eat at her wedding, but my husband and I made sure to not miss our meals - it was that good! I got married weeks ago and my guests are still raving about how beautiful the wedding was and how smoothly it ran. If I had to do it again, I would definitely pick the same venue!

This venue is gorgeous (we had the outside garden, but you cant go wrong anywhere here) and the team is awesome! We worked with Katelyn and she thought of absolutely everything. She was so helpful all year when I would email her even the simplest questions.

We held our ceremony at Phipps and the team there was great. Julie was so helpful. She thought of everything, from adding a microphone and sound system so make sure our guests could hear us to making sure we had a table for our handfasting cord. And she coordinated with our string quartet on the day of our ceremony to make sure everything went smoothly. And the flowers were amazing. It is a truly beautiful venue.

Having our wedding at Phipp's was the absolute best decision we made out of all of our wedding decisions. The staff was incredibly helpful throughout he entire process. Not to mention that we were planning our Pittsburgh wedding from 3,000 miles away in San Francisco, CA. David Swank was our coordinator at Phipp's throughout the whole process & was our day-of go to guy and made every step of the way a breeze. The day unfolded perfectly. David was incredibly responsive, organized, and helpful throughout the whole process which helped us out tremendously. The venue itself was just magical - like a dream come true! If you're considering if you should have your wedding at Phipp's, I'd recommend it without a doubt. It's the best investment you'll make for your entire wedding! Xo

Planning a Pittsburgh wedding from Brooklyn seemed like it would be full of frustrations, but working with Dave and Katelyn made for a seamless celebration! They created a tight timeline that kept everyone [bride & groom, minister, rabbi, guests, musicians, Phipps staff] on the same page. Then they scrambled like crazy behind the scenes to make sure every detail was orchestrated, and that nothing was overlooked. [Sadly, I missed my special dance with my husband because I was just "living in the moment" with old friends.]
Dave and Katelyn graciously accommodated a few special requests we made, plus several last-minute changes.
The Phipps Conservatory in July provided a lush beauty that needs pictures to describe adequately. Even the pouring rain that morning couldn’t diminish the magic of the setting. Walking through the rain forest to the reception hall made a huge impact on guests, from the many comments we have received. The New York Botanical Gardens could not have matched this lovely experience!

Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens was the perfect place for our ceremony. The staff was extremely helpful, cooperative, and responsive. It was perfect that they have a special room for the bride to get ready away from the outdoor garden. Our wedding photos look beautiful with the garden in the background!

I will never run out of fabulous things to say about this venue. Phipps was my number one choice for sentimental reasons, so that part was easy. The fact that they ended up being so out of this world accommodating and incredible to work with was a huge bonus!!!! My husband and I are both professional musicians - so we wanted something different. Phipps is unique, aesthetically beautiful, but still completely functional and fairly priced. Their in house catering is fantastic, I received SO many compliments on the food and the wait staff was incredible. I did not have a wedding planner, so I worked one on one with their events team starting with Rachel, who moved out of town, and then was assigned to Nina. They were both amazing, and did not miss even the smallest detail despite how busy they are and how many events they have to manage. Our wedding night was absolute magic in every way, and so much of it was because of this setting. We love Phipps and everything they stand for, and would recommend them to anyone planning an event, big or small.

Phipps Conservatory was such a beautiful place to have our wedding. It couldn't have been more perfect. The staff made us feel that they had everything taken care of and they were on top of it. You are in good hands if you have your event here. They were the professional wedding coordinator that I didn't have otherwise. They answered all my questions and walked us through everything for the day of and they made the day just absolutely perfect. They let us bring our things in the evening before for the rehearsal and they set everything up for us so we didn't have to do a thing. I couldn't have asked for anything more wonderful. They certainly made the difference in how comfortable and unstressed I was for the day of. We couldn't quite afford to have our reception at Phipps, although I've been to one there and is just as equally gorgeous, but having our ceremony there was completely reasonably priced. I couldn't recommend them highly enough.

We had our ceremony at the Broderie Room at Phipps Conservatory and it could not have been more perfect. The coordinator, Ashley, was excellent to work with and she was very helpful during the event. I have always wanted to get married at this venue and it was truly a dream come true to get married here. It is such a beautiful place. We had our reception at a separate place since it can be pretty costly to do both ceremony and the reception at Phipps. If we had the money, we would have liked to have had our reception here as well. This venue is highly recommended!

When we had to find a new ceremony venue 8 months before our wedding, Phipp's was one of the few options we had and it could not have turned out to be more perfect that we had to change venues! It was truly a blessing in disguise! Phipps was so quick to respond and the women that I worked with while planning our ceremony were so incredibly helpful that I was blown away. When we showed up to our rehearsal the day before I was astonished at how organized they both were and how involved they were in getting everyone in their places and running the show. I wasn't expecting all of that. I thought we would show up, they'd let us into the Special Events Hall, and it would be up to us and our officiant to run things. I brought a CD for our ceremony music and someone even conducted the music for us and they did an awesome job! They were even more helpful the day of the wedding. When we showed up the florist hadn't come back yet with our bouquets and the women contacted our florist to find out when they were arriving. They made everything stress free and it was truly a pleasure working with them. Everyone already knows how beautiful Phipps is if you've been there... and spring was an absolutely beautiful time to have our wedding at Phipps. The spring flower show was spectacular and everyone was in awe walking around the observatory. It was so amazing having our wedding ceremony at Phipps and we couldn't have been happier!

My wife and I chose Phipps Conservatory as our wedding venue. We both weren't sure if we wanted to have our wedding in a church so we decided on the next best thing, an outdoor wedding surrounded by beautiful flowers. Phipps Conservatory was the right decision.

Phipps was very easy to work with and they were very friendly. The venue itself was beautiful. We chose the outdoor garden for our venue and we were fortunate to have a nice fall-like day for our wedding. If you are considering Phipps and are concerned about the weather, don't worry. Phipps has a really good Plan B for an outdoor wedding by using large white tents that I think would work well if it did rain.

The only concern would be that you might not be able to take any photos inside of Phipps if you choose this option. That being said, the scenery outside is nice enough for wedding photos. It offers some good shots.

Overall, we were very pleased with Phipps and we would most certainly have our wedding there again if we had to. We both recommend Phipps and hope this review makes your decision easier.

Having our wedding at Phipps on 7/25/2014 was a dream come true, it was more than I could have ever imagined it to be!! We had our ceremony and cocktail hour in the Outdoor Garden and our reception in the Special Events Hall, both spaces looked amazing. Our guests are still commenting on how beautiful everything was and how they loved the entire atmosphere of our wedding. Our guests loved the food too!! Our wedding day went exactly as I hoped it would, the staff set everything up as I wanted and throughout the entire day the staff was very helpful and accommodating not only to us but to our guests as well! I know our wedding day went so smoothly because of our amazing coordinators Rachel, Courtney & Colleen; they were so organized and helpful it made the months of planning easy. Phipps helped to create memories that will last a lifetime for us and our friends & family; it was the perfect way for my husband & I to start our life together!! I can’t wait to visit Phipps in the future to relive our beautiful wedding day!!

We had a small wedding ceremony here in the Broderie Room of the Conservatory. The setting was beautiful and the staff was very attentive. They provided a person to overlook our entire time in the room and get anything further we needed. Beautiful place.

We had our reception at Phipps. We thought our reception turned out beautifully. It was like a fairytale! From the beginning when we booked with Phipps up until the night of our wedding, we were able to access the vendor and coordinators working with us constantly. I think this is a MAJOR pro about a vendor as I have heard other brides comment that they could not even contact their vendors easily. Additionally, we thought the food was FANTASTIC which was a major priority for us. The service and set up of the rainforest room and special events hall went smoothly and we have guests comment about the staff and venue constantly. We enjoyed the spaces we were able to have. We had a wonderful experience with Phipps! And other vendors, e.g., DJ, have commented that they enjoy working with and at this venue as well.

What an amazing location! The planning team was well organized and thought of every detail. We were so happy with how everything turned out! In fact, our several of our guests keep telling us it was the most beautiful wedding they have ever attended. While it wasn't cheap, it looked as though it should have cost at least double.

Phipps is an amazing venue, and we were so excited to book the Broderie Room. We had actually gotten engaged there because my husband knew that's where I wanted to get married. Gorgeous location for our outdoor ceremony and reception. Both were held in the Outdoor Garden for us. We definitely lucked out by having perfect weather for the event, but they have a back-up plan in the event that the weather doesn't cooperate. Emily and Gina were excellent to work with. My husband and I were very happy we chose Phipps Conservatory for our reception. We would recommend it to anyone! It was very easy to communicate with the staff, especially since we planned our wedding from across the country. The night starting with the cocktail hour went great. There was a large amount of space for corn hole and our guests to mingle on the patio outside as well as the garden inside. The food (during cocktail hour and dinner) was delicious! They offered many different options for us to choose from during the planning process. There was one negative about the venue. The air conditioning system turns off every time a door is open and with one of the bars being outside, guests were frequently opening the doors throughout the whole night. This caused the temperature in the event hall to get too hot on our summer wedding day when we expected it to be cool and comfortable from the air conditioning. Other than that, we had a blast and would do it over again there!

My husband and I had our wedding ceremony on May 20, 2017 in the outdoor garden. We couldn't have picked a better venue. It was absolutely beautiful. I enjoyed that there was a rain plan if the weather didn't cooperate. (Luckily we didn't need it)! Katelyn is amazing to work it and always easy to get a hold of! I enjoyed having a bridal suite to hang out in until it was time to walk down the aisle. Everything was very organized and went off without a hitch! I would recommend this place to anyone! We had our our reception at Phipps Conservatory on November 12, 2016 in the special events hall with our cocktail hour in the tropical rain forest. We worked with Nina and Carrie. They were both very responsive and professional and they made sure we had everything the way we wanted it to be on our special day. They were able to transform a pretty bare room into something out of the library (we had a literary themed wedding). The food was delicious and served in a timely manner by a professional wait staff. Numerous staff checked in on us throughout the night to make sure we didn't need anything. We couldn't have asked for a better venue to have our reception!

Our wedding reception was simply amazing. Utterly fantastic. It was even more beautiful than we could have dreamed.

The event staff was beyond incredible. They are a first-rate, first-class team, and took care of every single detail imaginable.

Our food was delicious... so many rave reviews.

I wouldn't change a thing about our reception. There are few places more beautiful than Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, and I am very lucky to have had our reception at such an amazing venue.

The catering department is separate in a way from Phipps, but everything went pretty smoothly as far as planning goes. I definitely suggest sending all mail, for any vendor certified so there's a record of it.

If you are lucky enough to book Phipps as your wedding venue, I highly doubt you will be disappointed in any way, shape or form.

The coordinating staff at Phipps is amazing, and will help you though just about anything wedding-related!

I would recommend Phipps to any bride, any day. We had a dream wedding, and as one of the event coordinators said, "it will set the tone for a beautiful life together."

The Perfect Garden Ceremony

We loved using the Phipps Conservatory as our ceremomy space! It was gorgeous, the guests loved it, and working with Caroline was so easy. She helped to make our day run smoothly and allowed us to take photos around the venue after the ceremony. The time frame was limited because the space was open to the public until 5pm and then they needed time to set up which was understandable.
We were allowed to tour the venue multiple times, and they accommodated us when we wanted to use the gallery room which hadn't been used as a ceremony space in a while. The staff at Phipps helped to make my vision a reality and we are so happy with our choice.

For ceremony only- it was GREAT!

We only had our ceremony there, however everything was great. Sara was our coordinator and she was amazing. They made sure that everything was perfect on that day and went over everything with the other vendors involved and all of my bridesmaids and groomsmen. I would highly suggest them for the ceremony. We had our ceremony in the Special Events Hall. The pictures alone afterward were worth every penny!

The wedding of my dreams included having our ceremony in the outdoor garden at phipps conservatory and botanical gardens in Oakland. This is where my husband proposed to me and I knew this is where we had to get married. Julie Hutto was the wedding coordinator there and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about her! She was so helpful in planning our ceremony. She provided us with a checklist to make sure everything was in order. Phipps also included a rain back up tent that was already set up on the day. Julie worked very closely with me in coordinating this rain back up plan. There was a high chance it was going to rain on our ceremony and Julie made sure we were prepared if it did. THANKFULLY it did NOT rain on our ceremony!
Julie worked with me with dropping off the items I needed for the ceremony. These items included an arch, picture frames to place on the chairs, glassware for a wine ceremony, and a sidewalk chalkboard welcome sign. She made sure everything was set up perfectly.
I really enjoyed the fact that there was a bridal suite where we could go 1 hour before the ceremony began. This is where I got my dress on and took some really beautiful pictures. It was a little small for the 7 of us, plus the photographers, but it worked. It also had a bathroom which was nice.
The only negative thing I have to say about the outdoor garden is that there were not any flowers in the space where the ceremony was held. This was disappointing, but it was still a beautiful space regardless.
After the ceremony was over we were able to take pictures in the outdoor garden. However, it began to rain after the family portraits were done and we began the bride and groom portraits. Julie was kind enough to escort us in to the conservatory to finish the portraits for the rest of the time we had the venue booked for. Overall, the experience and service we received from Phipps and Julie exceeded all of our expectations and was well worth the price we paid.

If you're looking for a beautiful venue, I don't think you could do much better than Phipps. I'm not sure what would surpass it, especially locally. Our guests were spellbound. We love going back to Phipps (which we do frequently as we're members) and remembering our wedding each time. It's also extremely affordable if you have a small wedding. We booked the Broderie room for around $600 for our 35-person ceremony. Service was excellent, our coordinator was great, and all of our pictures are stunning. You won't need any decorations, that's for sure. I will say their event staff were occasionally disorganized and a little hard to get a hold of. However, the impact this had on our actual day was negligible and wouldn't dissuade me from recommending Phipps in any way-- just make sure YOU are organized and repeat your needs in multiple formats (over the phone, in person, and via e-mail) to make sure the message gets through.

We had our ceremony at the Phipps in the Broderie Room and couldn't be happier with the result. They were easy to work with and while they had suggests for how ceremonies there are typically done, they were very willing to let us make our ceremony our own. It is also an absolutely gorgeous venue and they offer the option for your guests to have access to the whole garden before or after the ceremony, which was a big hit.

Phipps was an incredible venue for our outdoor wedding and reception. Definitely recommend using the tropical garden and outdoor patio for cocktail hour! We primarily worked with Nina and Carrie, who were both so accomodating and sweet. We had a fulltime wedding planner but Nina help a lot with the decorations, and clean up on the day-of.
Some standout things include: If you're having a summer wedding, the tent is included, so you have an automatic rain plan. We decided last minute that we wanted to serve drinks and ice cream during the service, and Carrie at Phipps made it happen.
The only negative is that Phipps handles some of the sub-contractors such as linens and staging, so you can't really reach out to the original party in case there's an issue. At our wedding, the decorator had an issue with the staging folks over a big mishap, but since Phipps signed the contract with the staging company, it was hard to get the two parties in touch. However, Phipps was generous in partially reimbursing us for the issue.
Overall I would recommend Phipps for their beautiful venue, but also their awesome staff who goes all out to give you the wedding of your dreams!

I knew as soon as I went to tour Phipps Conservatory that it was the perfect site for my wedding. We got married in the outdoor garden and then paid extra to have pictures taken in the Broderie room. It was absolutely beautiful!! It was a bit pricey, but in the end I think it was well worth it!

Amazing outdoor venue in Pittsburgh!

We chose Phipps as our wedding venue for both ceremony and reception, primarily for their almost all-inclusive wedding package takes care a lot of things (linen rental, cake bakery, day-off coordination, etc.).

We postponed our wedding for a year from 2020 to 2021 due to COVID, and I really want to praise their flexibility and adaptability! For one, we rescheduled our date without additional cost and they offered full-refund of our deposit if we cancel 30 days before our new date (it was in early 2021). Not all venues did that.

We signed 3 contracts, namely venue rental, catering, and bar. We found each team was great to work with, since we had to update our contracts a few times due to changing COVID restrictions.

Venue & day-off coordination: Our assigned day-off coordinator, Caroline, is attentive, responsive, and super easy to communicate via email/phone for the months leading to the wedding day. Her team perfectly coordinated everything, from decoration setup, ceremony music, YouTube livestream (for those who can’t attend in person), timeline management, cookie table setup, and cleanup. Super professional!

Catering: We did our tasting in December 2019 and choose three entrees (one vegan) to accommodate different dietary needs. The wedding catering package includes 3-course dinner, passed appetizers during cocktail hour, and coffee/tea with dessert course (cake). Kids’ meal is also available and we found it very helpful for our guests with small kids. There was a period in 2021 when Phipps could only serve buffet style reception due to COVID restrictions. Things opened up in April 2021 and we were able to switch back to dinner service. The only inflexibility is for the guests who don’t show up. They require 2-week notice for guest number adjustment (we informed them 1 week before but nothing can be changed), so we ended paying for 2 guests who didn’t come.

Bar: It’s very straightforward, either by person or by consumption. Pricing is on the higher end but that's your only option if you want to have a wedding at Phipps. They were very adaptive to changing COVID restrictions. There was a time they could only serve beer & wine, but we were able to switch back to a full bar when restrictions eased.

I highly recommend Phipps if you don't want to work on every detail and feel the budget is right for you!

I think Phipps was a good choice for us. We were planning a very small wedding on very short notice. They had an opening for us and we booked our ceremony. We didn't have our reception here. Just the ceremony but everything turned out really nice, you really don't even need to decorate, they have all flowers provided already! We were in the Broderie Room with 17 guests. It worked out really well for what we needed.

I would highly recommend Phipps to anyone currently looking for a venue. I had my ceremony, cocktail hour and reception in the Special Events Center and Tropical Forest. The fact that they are an all inclusive venue was worth every penny for the fact that was planning this wedding from a state away. You visit and pick what you want from their list of approved vendors, within the limits of what's included, and it all falls under the per person head count.

While I did get bounced around a bit while emailing Phipps staff, and it was sometimes very difficult to determine who was actually the person in charge, come the day of, everything went off without a single hitch. All I had to do was hand the staff all of my decorations and cookies and everything on Friday, and I didn't have to worry about set up or anything. The relief of knowing, day of, that I didn't have to worry about my friends or family having to set anything up was a HUGE load off of my shoulders. I was frequently told by staff that I was the most calm bride they'd seen, but I honestly have them to thank. Everything was beautiful, the food was phenomenal, and the staff were professional and very intuitive to the needs of my family and friends.

Again, the sticker shock may surprise you, but it was honestly the most perfect day I could have every asked for.

Thank you to the Phipps Conservatory event planning staff (especially to Dominic) for making our small wedding ceremony on 7-12-14 so special! The Broderie Room was absolutely perfect for our small wedding party of 16 plus the minister and the staff at the Phipps made very effort to make my husband and I and our guests feel welcomed and attended to.

Even though the room is a bit steamy in the summer, you couldn't ask for a better or more beautiful setting to memorialize your wedding. It was possible to incorporate music, the wishing well and to take terrific photos in the Broderie Room and right outside in the courtyard.

Overall- just a 5 star location and event for my husband and I and our family!

Phipps is a beautiful venue for a wedding ceremony. We had our wedding in the Broderie room, which is small and intimate, just as we wanted. Gorgeous venue; however, a tad pricey. Well worth the costs, though.

Our wedding at Phipps was beautiful! The weather largely cooperated and everyone was very helpful. The food and the facilities were great. It sometimes took a while in the back-and-forth between email and phone calls, but once we did connect with someone at Phipps, they were wonderful and understanding about our special needs in our Indian and Hindu traditional wedding ceremony.

I loved having my wedding and reception at Phipps... it was absolutely beautiful, and I loved being able to have both the wedding and the reception at the same location. The only thing that was difficult was getting bar pricing, and once we did - it was much more expensive than I had anticipated. Otherwise, Trisha was AMAZING! She went above and beyond, especially with all the work she had to do for the G20... Thank you Trisha, and thank you Phipps!!!

While I had a hard time getting in touch with my coordinator, our experience was the absolute best! they are very accommodating to our wants and needs for our wedding day and helped us every step of the way! It was beautiful, the set up with chairs and unity candle was perfect...and they did a superb job of keeping other patrons and onlookers away from our ceremony... I would highly recommend this location for a ceremony of any type...wedding, anniversary, vow renewals, anything...it is well worth it and you won't find a more friendly, understanding, or more accommodating staff. Please note that I couldn't reach my coordinator all the time because they were shorthanded and going through a hiring phase...my coordinator was taking on 2 roles at one time...all the while planning weddings! She did great!

We had a wonderful experience at Phipps! Of course, everyone loved the venue and couldn't give us enough compliments about the Tropical Rain Forest. It was incredibly beautiful for a November wedding, and we would absolutely recommend it! Our wedding coordinator left her job a couple months before the wedding, but the transition to a new coordinator was fairly smooth (apparently this happens often). Our only concern was that communication was rather complicated. Rather than use a platform for organized communication like Honey Book, we communicated through a mass series of emails to get the wedding together. It made it harder than it needed to be when updating CAD diagrams, contracts, reimbursements, etc. However, the staff was accommodating and willing to meet in person. Phipps is very specific about what is allowed/included within the package, and due to the enormous amount of weddings, they can't necessarily deviate from the package. Overall, Phipps is a wonderful wedding venue!

We used Phipps Conservatory for our wedding ceremony. The staff was extremely friendly and willing to work with us on every level. They were open to suggestions and whatever we wanted in order to make our day special. Getting in contact with people from Phipps was very easy, which helped decrease the stress. The two girls that were working on the day of our ceremony were very laid back and helped to make sure everything ran smoothly. This was the perfect venue for our wedding and we're so glad we had amazing people to work with to make it run smoothly!!

Overall, Phipps was an AMAZING reception venue. The entire facility looked beautiful, including the special events hall where our reception was held, and our guests were definitely thrilled. The food from their in house catering was delicious, and in general we were happy with our experience. However, the level of responsiveness from the events and catering team could have been better leading up to our event. The wedding went off without a hitch, but it did require a bit of persistence on my part.

We had our wedding in the outdoor garden at Phipps, and it could not have been more beautiful. It was a bit pricey, but I am still glad we had it here (especially since it is where my husband and I went on our first date!) It was an incredible venue and the people helping us were very friendly.

I had my wedding ceremony in the Broderie Room and have to tell you the ladies at Phipps know what they are doing. They run a tight ship. The level of service provided by the team was good, they were flexible with us, and had water for the guests and fans since the room was hot. I wish I would have had my entire wedding there! It's why I am now a member of Phipps.

Overall, we had a great time with Phipps. Could not have asked for a better team of coordinators to help us out on the day of the event. I would STRONGLY recommend everyone to ask for Dominic and his team to help out on the day of. Not only did they help to coordinate things on the day of, they event helped us on the entire ceremony process and how to stand and everything! I didn't have to worry about a THING with the vendors coming onsite that day, everything was coordinated through them. They also helped us put our table decorations on the table as well.
Being an Yelp Elite for 3 years, I have to say their food was 4 out of 5 star quality as well. Originally we really wanted to bring in outside catering since we didn't know how good their catering would be. But due to the outrageous cost to bring in outside vendor, we gave up on that idea. But I am glad we used Phipps catering, they definitely cooked to impress!
Although, one area of improvement would be food servicing. If you happen to be away from your seat while they are serving your food, there is a chance you may not get your meal. They completely miss our DJ since he was standing at his booth the entire night! I had to ask them to bring food to him after I found out our DJ never got his meal. So please keep an eye on food serving if you use Phipps catering.
Another area of improvement would be professionalism with the main coordinator - Colleen. Although she was fine throughout our planning process, but the way she presents herself made me feel uncomfortable. When we met up to go through the venue location, the whole time we were talking she seemed to be busy looking elsewhere instead of paying attention to what we're saying. Granted I think she heard us, but we did not feel like we were being respected. That made our trip to Phipps rather awkward. I was definitely worried about our day of coordination with her, but the rest of her team took over on our wedding day and everything went smoothly.

While the staff was difficult to get a hold of, they were there when it counted! During our rehearsal and wedding day, they were extremely helpful and flexible (when I forgot my card box, they gave me a back-up!). Most of my guests were from out of town, so the venue itself couldn't be beat. No other venue in the area offers the same unique, beautiful atmosphere.

Phipps is a beautiful location to have your ceremony and reception. I used the outside garden for my ceremony and the special events hall for the reception. Everything went as planned and the staff there the day of the wedding was very helpful. There were some staff changes in during my planning process so that did slow down their response time but in the end everything came together.

We had a great experience at Phipps. We booked the Broderie Room and just had our ceremony there. Our event supervisor was responsive and helpful leading to the day and especially the day of. I wish we were able to take photos in more than just the room itself, but I understand why they had that policy. Overall it was beautiful and memorable!!

Overall, having our wedding at Phipps was magical. Other than the humidity in the garden from the plants (expected), it was truly a dream. We worked with numerous event coordinators throughout the entire process, which got confusing and frustrating at times, but in the end we were satisfied with our coordinator for our wedding. Our coordinator was Erika and she was really attentive to our needs and responsive. The only complaints I would have would be that when I asked for extra chairs on the left side, they were placed on the right. So, three of my family members were left standing. Also, unless you rent the entire facility, you cannot really take pictures in any other room than the one rented. We had our ceremony in the Broderie Room, and it was just amazing. Our guests were given as much water as they could possibly need and they did have industrial sized fans going so they didn't get too hot. Overall, everyone we worked with for the rehearsal and the actual wedding, were great. Thank you, Phipps, for giving us a memorable day!!!

The Broderie Room at the Phipps is perfect for a small ceremony - very beautiful, easy, and everyone enjoys being there. The sales staff are not always so easy to get in touch with, and there was a little mixup with the door people would use to enter - make sure you have that cleared up beforehand so they don't lock it! They also limit how many people can stand where (makes sense, to protect the flowers) but that can be managed. In any case, you couldn't find a more beautiful location - parking is easy, people can find it, and it's a lovely experience for all of your guests.

If you are looking for a very unique, beautiful wedding venue that will be something none of your guest have ever seen before... look no further. Phipps is breathtaking.. there is no arguing that. I got married in the Tropical rainforest (it was supposed to be on the terrace but it ended up raining) with a reception in the special events room. Brides nervous about weather I honestly think my wedding was even better inside the rainforest so don't sweat the weather if you choose this venue. I will say that there were times when I was frustrated during the planning process (not sure whether to email events or catering, staff turn-over, etc.), but on the day of the wedding everything was flawless. While I found catering to be less than stellar to work with, I can't say enough about Constance in events. She is extremely organized and patient, and in my opinion, a huge reason why my wedding day was flawless. In conclusion, if you want the most amazing wedding venue in Pittsburgh, and don't mind dealing with a little frustration during the planning process, I would recommend Phipps.

GORGEOUS VENUE. Received MANY compliments on how beautiful it was.
i would not have picked a different venue for atmosphere.
The staff is professional but very busy. Not always immediately available when needed. Phipps enforces a lot of rules and are strict with certain things, most with my caterer and how things are done. Some of those rules did affect my but it turned out perfect in the end.

I was married in Phipp's outdoor garden in June of 2007. The service was excellent! Since our ceremony was being held outside they had tents in the upper garden incase of inclimate weather. Fortunately the day was gorgeous and we didn't have any issues. If you are looking for an option for a ceremoney other than a church I highly reccomend Phipp's. The setting is very relaxed in the outdoor garden. We had about 40 chairs and the other guests sat along the walls, under the gazebo, on benches below the tree's etc. Keep in mind, Phipp's opens it's booking calendar in May of every year for the upcoming 12 months. I went at 7am to be one of the first as the spots fill quickly.

I had always wanted to have my wedding reception in the Phipps and it was beautiful. However, I had to repeatedly email three different people to get a response. Being prompt with their communication is not their strong suit. When we met with them I felt very rushed. Everything was set up as we wanted. At the ceremony we had an hour, the staff seemed rushed like they wanted us to get in and out as fast as possible. The staff turned me off to the venue but it is so unique I was willing to deal with it.

We had Phipps for both our ceremony site and reception. Sadly it rained, so our ceremony had to be taken indoors. The staff was quick and efficient about moving everything inside.

As a warning--Phipps seems to have a high turnover. Every time I'd try and contact my point person in a certain department, I'd learn that they were no longer with Phipps. What is going on there...? Also response time is sometimes slow, and occasionally I would have to email twice to get a response of any kind.

The venue itself though is beautiful, and the reception hall is very nice. The ambiance is terrific. The only draw back is working with the staff. Although Rachel, our *final* wedding consultant, did her job well.

Also word of warning--the alcohol contract is VERY EXPENSIVE, and quite inflexible. If you want control of your food and alcohol choices, this is not the venue for you.

We booked Phipps as our ceremony location, as we both were Pitt Grads and going to Phipps while students was always a nice relax date for us. They were our first choice for a ceremony venue due to how beautiful the space is and the great value for the size of our party. We booked them about 1.5 years out with no issue but things became a little more stressful as we got closer to the big day. First, our main contact was swapped out 3-4 times since we signed the contract, so I imagine some details were lost in transition. Second, we were told of the rehearsal date options a little over a month out (which was expected as per contract), but they only offered us either the Thursday before or upto 1pm on Friday. As we had a Saturday wedding and most of our family and wedding party were flying in, finding this out so late was extremely frustrating, especially as when I signed the contract we were not told of any other conflicting events. It turns out there was a wedding after ours in the same space the same day, but they were given first choice in rehearsal times. Thankfully at this point we were working with the Event Sales Manager, who was great to work with and definitely helped us feel things would go ok. There still was some communication holes however, like confirmation on if we will do indoor/outdoor the day of, but we didn't feel this was a big deal as the event itself was perfect. The staff on the day of was fantastic to work with, helped up through every step and honestly made us forget about any issues we had in the past few months.

The venue is absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately, they weren't the easiest to work with. We didn't talk to the same person more than a few times over a 6 mth period of planning. The space is very expensive to rent and make sure you know exactly what you're paying for (i.e., only certain tables are included). They have very strict rules that you have to follow (i.e. DJ has to finish playing music by 10:30pm). The day of coordination was fantastic though. The girls are so sweet and helpful!

Got married at Phipps recently in May 2015. The ceremony was outside in the Tropical Forest and dinner and dancing was in the Special Events Hall. The venue was gorgeous for pictures and the whole evening was beautiful with all of the scenery. The food was delicious and Mark in catering was very responsive and did a great job meeting special needs or requests. About halfway through the planning process we were switched to a new events coordinator, Ashley, who seemed new at the job. There were mixups leading up to the big day and she often seemed frazzled. The day of the rehearsal there were several mixups and things that had already been discussed that Ashley didn't know about. On the actual wedding day she was unorganized and had a difficult time executing simple decisions such as sending the wedding party down the aisle, closing the bar to start dinner, and setting up the cookie table. She also gave the security guard incorrect information and the father of the bride and some other wedding party members weren't allowed in for photos before the ceremony. All in all the venue was gorgeous but the amount of organization and planning was lacking on the day of the wedding.

I recently got married at Phipps Conservatory, and the wedding itself was absolutely incredible. The venue was beautiful and the food was excellent; it was a true fairy tale! I will admit, however, that I was a bit disappointed leading up to the big day. I planned my wedding very quickly (within 5 months) and was THRILLED that Phipps had an opening for my wedding day. At first the staff was super responsive and then once I booked the venue, I had some challenges when getting into touch with them. I also found that I was told several things that didn't come to fruition, which ultimately led to me having to find additional money to fund things such as lighting. Overall, I was very happy with the actual day itself, and that is most important! I would recommend being very clear with your expectations if you book your wedding here and I would suggest getting things in writing.

The event staff changed completely between the time I booked my wedding and had my wedding. They were a bit uncertain as to where I was and was not allowed to be photographed after my ceremony. They told my photographer and myself two different things. They also watched us like a hawk while we took our photos. As soon as our 1.5 hours were up they booted us out the side door.

While the rooms are a beautiful site to see and our pictures will turn out of beautiful, I’m sure. We were not told that there was construction going on and there were a million metal barrels at the entrance so you couldn’t get the classic kissing picture in the front of the building, which no big deal just would have been nice to know. they wouldn’t let us back in (we went outside to get pictures and some air) to take more pictures, even tho we had more time on our room, the front entrance people were very rude about it so we left and got pictures elsewhere. It just felt very unorganized... i mean i know people have amazing experiences but that wasn’t the case for me and my now husband...

Phipps is a beautiful venue, however they are not the easiest to work with. It was very difficult to get in touch with our coordinator. Not to mention our original coordinator left and we were assigned someone new but were not told until three weeks before the wedding. Also they knew that both my parents would be walking me down the aisle but they did not leave enough space for this to happen. As a result my mom had to end up walking behind me. Also Phipps is not flexible with any changes and they are very strict about photo space restrictions.

bad when it rains

I’m the father of the bride. I think the garden area is beautiful. We just had an August wedding and had about 125 guests. you would think they never dealt with rain. A number of our guests had to stand during the ceremony due to lack of seating. A number of guests mentioned spiders and webs. The ceremony area had a backdrop of plastic curtains with warning signs which we had to cover. Staff was often invisible and not very helpful. There was only a single bar and the line was the longest I have seen at a wedding. Perhaps that is why the bartenders were unhappy and unpleasant.
I have always enjoyed visiting Phipps conservatory but I can’t recommend the wedding event support.
