There's the best, and then there is Peter - who re-writes the definition of the best, and then surpasses even that. Do yourself a favor and book Peter now. If he is busy - change your wedding day so you can work with him. Seriously. My husband and I both keep saying "how did he make us look so good?! We aren't photogenic!" Peter put together a book for us and we were instantly transported back to our entire wedding day. Because of Peter we get to re-live one of the most special days of our lives. Peter is everywhere and no-where, and captures it ALL. Hes prompt, professional, kind, and EXTREMELY talented. He's the best decision you will make and you will not regret it. -

I have a background in photography and when it was time to review several photographers for our upcoming wedding, I was very picky. I can honestly say that Peters style is nothing short of amazing. His work is unique, beautiful, and he has a way of capturing the moment, when most didnt even realize it was happening. If you want photographs that are memorable, personal and not traditional, then you must see Peters work. Peter is also easy to work with, detailed, organized and blends in with the event, so you don't even realize his is capturing your most precious moments. My husband and I have discussed having Peter as a regular part of our family, in having him be our "family photographer" moving forward. -

Best decision ever!
Thank you Peter! We are so grateful to have made the choice to have you cover our wedding, as last minute and chaotic as it was you captured it all so beautifully. It’s amazing to be able to see the wedding from a completely different perspective, so many moments I my self would have missed. I knew from the moment I saw Peter’s website that it was the vibe I wanted and didn’t really need to think twice about it and I was not disappointed. We had two different wedding events one more traditional and the second was a weekend getaway. The first wedding we felt as though he captured some truly special photos and we appreciated his guidance and candor. The best part is that we are local and were able to meet together a few times prior so he tapped into our chemistry. The second time we had him on site with us for over two days and not only did he take some of the most amazing shots, but we also gained a friend that we cherish. I don't know how we got so lucky, but thank you Peter. -

Peter was relaxed, fun, and the perfect amount of assertive on our wedding day. Everyone there noticed how HARD Peter worked all day without stopping. He truly gave 100% and wow did he deliver. You can tell that he loves what he does! It shows not just in how hard he works but in the photos themselves. Every single photo is a work of art. He worked with the lighting and venue to create stunning portraits - and his documentary style shots are just as incredible. Many people have been so touched by the emotion and personalities in our wedding photos. They are timeless, treasured images that will be passed down for generations. I wasn't sure what to expect, but if I'd had any expectations, Peter Mahar would have exceeded all of them.
His photodocumentary style stood out—he seemed to focus on capturing genuine moments rather than staging everything. He has an incredible ability to make anyone look photogenic. From the moment we met, Peter’s professionalism and warmth put us completely at ease.
His attention to detail and his knack for capturing the perfect moments is clearly pronounced in the photos he took that we'll treasure for the rest of our lives.

If you are looking for a photographer who will capture every emotion on your wedding day and edit to match your true skin tone, peter is your wedding photographer! My husband and I were incredibly picky with our photographer and are so happy with peter's work! He was on time and had amazing communication. He was able to navigate tough family dynamics like a champ and get our puppy to look for photos. His editing is unreal and any time we wanted a picture peter was right there snapping away! He made sure to keep on track when our wedding planner was nowhere to be found. The wedding photo book was amazing and is such amazing quality. We would 10000000000000000% recommend peter as your wedding photographer! -

Peter was a great photographer for our surprise wedding on the beach in Washington. He was flexible, had great communication, got there very early and even helped set up! And the photos turned out beautifully! We love the mix of black and white with color photos, plus the many different types of shots: Portraits, group photos, formal, silly, candid, etc. The variety really helps capture the day, and they all look amazing! Would definitely use Peter again! -

From our first consultation, he is attentive, professional, and genuinely excited about our vision. On the wedding day, he seamlessly blended into the festivities, capturing candid moments that truly reflected our special day. The way interacted with our guests made everyone feel comfortable, which resulted in stunning, natural shots.

Peter and his team were absolutely amazing! He listened to what we were hoping for from day one and delivered expertly! Neither my spouse and I wanted really formal pictures yet wanted to capture the spirit of the day, and that is exactly what we got. When Peter did our engagement photo session we were very comfortable and able to enjoy the experience (which is key for two people how aren't really ones to be in front of a camera or the focus of attention). We wanted to do a combination of an elopement photo session on our wedding day, in addition to the typical wedding festivities and Peter was totally on board from the start. Our first-look and pre-wedding session at the North Falls of Silver Creek Falls turned out better than I could have imagined! His team was always in the right place at the right time without being intrusive and even joined in for some of the reception fun. Peter and his team were priceless when it came down to value and the delivered product... You won't be disappointed!

Peter's photos from our wedding masterfully captured the natural joy from the day. When searching for a photographer, we gravitated toward his work because of his focus on the candid moments rather than prepared scenes, and we are beyond thrilled with work he did. His fun, improvised direction in first look and family photos got everyone looking their best, and the colors in his shots are vivid, vibrant and beautiful. Based on our experience and what we've seen from other weddings (sorry!), we think Peter is the best there is! -

Peter is a fantastic photographer! My wife and I hired Peter for our wedding and are so happy we did - not only because the photos were amazing but how Peter was able to capture the intimate moments without making us feel like we were under a spot light the whole time. He was fun to work with and really took the stress out of the whole process. He was also willing to work with us on our budget and timeline and was a huge help to keep us organized on our actual wedding day. On top of all that, he was a joy to have at the wedding and seemed to have a fun time celebrating with us. He really helped make the day unforgettable. I would recommend Peter to anyone who's feels a little awkward in front of the camera and to everyone looking for an expert photographer who makes the whole process fun and easy. We highly recommend Peter for your engagement and/or wedding photography!! He made our engagement AND wedding photography sessions enjoyable and fun and captured beautiful and meaningful pictures along the way. We found it very helpful that Peter knows how to organize and direct a large wedding party or family! He is efficient and keeps the show going when sticking to a timeline. Peter helped us create a list of photos we wanted before our wedding day and captured these moments beautifully. He was also quick to capture the meaningful, spontaneous and candid moments throughout our wedding day. We do have trouble picking which photos to print because we have so many favorites. -

Peter recently posted photos from our wedding day to his blog and I can't stop staring at them. They fully capture the joy and happiness we felt on that day!
My husband and I chose to go with Peter for a couple reasons. First, we loved the authentic colors he maintains in his edited photos. So many photographers these days are adjusting their photos to look more sepia-toned or like they have a filter on them -- or they boost the brightness up incredibly high or dramatically increase the shadows. Peter keeps his photography authentic. He says he tries to emulate photo journalism in his pictures. As a journalist myself, I'd say he does a great job at it.
Also like a photojournalist, Peter works to capture real moments. Sure, there are the staged and posed pictures, but Peter also gets the laughter, the awe, and the emotion on people's faces.
We are so pleased with his work and we've heard from so many of our guests that they loved interacting with him on our wedding day. We'd love to hire him again for any photo-worthy moment in our lives. -

one of the best parts of our wedding!
Peter is such an amazing photographers and the incredible photos he took are one of our favorite parts of our wedding. We can’t recommend him enough as a photographer for your wedding and as a person! He and his second shooter brought a really calm and professional approach to the entire day, and both listened to us and what we wanted while also providing really valuable feedback. We had a two-day hybrid Indian/western wedding and after the first night when we got a sneak peek on his instagram of some of the photos we were so blown away we knew that the pictures he was taking were truly something special.
He also really knows what’s going to a good shot or what services / how to structure your day / etc etc. listen to his advice! We were hesitant to get a photobooth for budget reasons but after talking to him we decided to go with it. We we’re so glad we did because our guests loved taking pictures with some of the Indian decor elements like our stage and a makeshift rickshaw we had decorated.

Some reviews are easy, “they did a great job” “they were fantastic” ..but how do you find the precise words to describe a perfect experience in a chaotic situation? For our amazing wedding day, Peter was accompanied by Louis to deal with a 20 person bridal party, family members, friends and staff in a beautiful venue that was vast and spaced out. We had drunk Marines and sailors, anxious bride and groom, antsy family and ecstatic friends running around to make our day special. They handled our wedding with an experienced precision and control I didn't even know was possible. I don't know how they did it, but we were never running late, so if they give their two cents, listen. You want someone at your wedding who is professional but who can also blend in and not only communicate well but not over boss the crowd and ruin the vibe. Peter and Louis were beyond exceptional. They were non-stop machines who were somehow everywhere and capturing every important moment. We received so much positive feedback about Peter’s professionalism and how much fun it was to interact with him. He remembered every request and made sure it happened. We couldn't be happier with our choice. We knew Peter was the one for us during our first experience shooting our engagement photos, we got along instantly, had a carefree shoot that made us feel comfortable, and we trusted him to do his thing. He is a subject matter expert who has an uncanny ability to cater to what you want for your experience just through a few conversations and reading the crowd. We are still amazed weeks after our wedding by how amazing these two were. For the rest of our events in our life, we will look to Peter to capture it.
If you have doubts, dont.

October wedding - Mt. Pisgah Arboretum
Peter is absolutely the best photographer we could have possibly asked for! If I could rate Peter six stars, I would have! We heard of Peter Mahar Photography through a friend of ours, who had hired Peter for their wedding the year before. Peter's based in Portland, we're in Eugene, so we coordinated with Peter via video chats and emails - Peter was always very responsive, profession, and offered tips, tricks, and pro-tips to make our engagement photos and wedding photos better than we could have hoped for.
We opted for one of the wedding packages that Peter offered, so we got a one-hour engagement photo shoot, two photographers during our wedding, and a lay-flat photo album. "One hour" isn't quite accurate - Peter gave us at least eighty-minutes for our engagement session; and he worked with us to include our two dogs in the photos (which was really important for us). The day of the wedding, Peter's available hours were very clearly scheduled, but Peter actually showed up a couple hours early to get everything set up, scout the location for photo locations, find ideas, and make sure everything would be flawless - and it was!!
I'd also like to include that Peter's assistant, Ben, is an amazing photographer as well - there are some stunning photos from Ben in our album, and it was priceless to have two photographers at our wedding. So many more photos, from different angles and perspectives!
Peter delivered the album and prints ahead of schedule - like, a week ahead of schedule! An we were spell-bound by what we received. We had so much fun opening each package that was in the box - and finding all the artful and personalized details Peter included. And the cigar-box and paper wrapping (replete with the wax seals!!) made for such a striking and delightful surprise - it has been one of the most pleasing and endearing gifts we could have ever hoped for to commemorate our wedding.
It's impossible to explain just how blown away we both were with Peter's photos!! Highly recommend Peter for any wedding, or any event where you want breathtaking images.Peter Mahar Photography's reply:

The absolute best
I can’t recommend Peter & Susannah enough as wedding photographers. (In fact, I already have—our friends got their engagement photos done with them and loved them!) I hate having my picture taken and almost always feel awkward. My husband and I had SO MUCH FUN taking pictures both for our engagement and wedding. Peter is fantastic about coaching shots, giving you an idea of what to do and where to look, and most importantly—what to do with your hands. He will quite literally climb rocks or dive onto the ground to get the right shot. On the day of our wedding, Peter and Susannah showed up right on time and dressed professionally. My wedding coordinator was essentially nonexistent, and Peter stepped in and took over that role. He had my schedule printed out and in hand the whole time, making sure the day went smoothly. From the first look to the ceremony to the reception, it flowed exactly how I wanted. We just got our photos back and I cried. I didn’t even cry on my wedding day! They were absolutely perfect. Not just the way that they were edited and posed, but the way that he captured all of the emotion and joy of the day. There are moments that I didn’t even really remember because I was so caught up in everything—but Peter and Susannah were there to make sure I can remember them forever. I have had multiple people tell me that these were the best engagement/wedding photos they’ve ever seen. I’m biased, but I agree. They gave me about twice as many photos as I was expecting, and I love them all! Now I just need Instagram to lift their posting limit so I can blow everyone up with these incredible pictures. Beth Sent on 09/06/2018Peter and Susannah were phenomenal! They were one of the best parts of our day. Peter is incredibly personable and easy to talk to. His prep beforehand was extremely helpful determining our timeline and working through what we really wanted. They are both so fun and enthusiastic about their work, and we definitely felt that on wedding day. They made us feel at ease and comfortable. My mom, sisters, and I had the most amazing/fun time getting me into my dress. Susannah was there and shot some of my favorite photos of the day. She captured the moments that I will remember forever and was so easy-going and made me feel comfortable. Their work will remain with us for the rest of our lives, and we could not have chosen a better photographer. Their work speaks for itself. My only regret is that it took me a year to write this review, because they are the best!

Taylor Sent on 01/12/2018Peter and Susannah were a phenomenal team and captured our wedding in the most perfect light. Our pictures turned out better than we could have ever hoped and I would recommend them for every wedding/engagement (they did both for us). Reasons why we love them--
1) The pictures they take are top notch. I've included attachments of some of my favorites which took a long time to decide on because I loved so many. The quality and style is unrivaled
2) Their style of capturing the wedding is authentic. Peter and Susannah do a great job of capturing the "in between" moments that really tell the story of the day. Of course they include the standard family and bridal party pictures, but so many of the pictures really capture the vibe of the day. It's the tiny moments without any of the theatrics that are some of my favorites. They found a way to capture the personalities of us, our families, and our guests
3) Their teamwork and ability to help lead you through the flow of the day are second to none. On the day of the wedding it felt hectic and I wasn't 100% sure where I should have been or what I should have been doing at any given moment. Peter and Susannah helped us with our schedule and walked us through the entire day effortlessly. This was great because I never had to worry about where I had to be next
4) They are just great people will incredible talent. When were first met them, they took us out for drinks so we could feel out if it was a good fit. Right off the bat you could tell that they love what they do and they love to do it together. This was important to us and the connection we felt with them solidified they were perfect for shooting our wedding. The photographers are there for every little moment of the wedding, so you want to make sure you feel comfortable around them and enjoy their presence. Peter and Susannah exceeded our expectations

As I'm sure many of you can relate, the idea of being the subject of thousands of photos was extremely daunting for my husband and I. Enter Peter and Susannah. These two are nothing short of amazing! Peter and Susannah are not only extremely talented photographers, they each possess an adventurous spirit that is utterly contagious. I mean who else is climbing over boulders while 8 and a half months pregnant in the Gorge then enthusiastically agrees to fly down to Mexico a few months later to a whirlwind of a wedding weekend?
While I will let their amazing photos speak for itself, the experience of working with Peter and Susannah is one we will never forget. My husband and I both felt as if we were hanging out with lifelong friends that just happen to be snapping some pictures along the way, yet somehow the end result was an incredible collection of photos that truly captured the emotions of the day. There are no other photographers we would have preferred to laugh, we cry and SWEAT with than Peter and Susannah. From the first minute of our engagement shoot to our tequila-infused hugs at 2 AM in the Playa del Carmen hotel lobby, we will cherish every minute of the experience. We cannot wait to work with them again in the future!
Seriously, wedding planning can be a super stressful time full of an overwhelming about of decisions to be made. Make the process a little bit easier on yourself - Hire Peter and Susannah! You will not regret it :)

Lauren Sent on 12/05/2017If I could give more than 5 stars I absolutely would. I chose Peter and Susannah to shoot our engagement photos as well as our wedding day. My husband and I are not the type that are constantly taking pictures together so thinking of doing a whole photo session was a little nerve racking. From the start we fell in love with Peter and Susannah. I spent forever going through photographer after photographer and looking through all their pictures... their photos were not like anyone else's I had seen. They capture genuine moments and expressions that you feel like you get to relive when you look at the photos. When I contacted them stating I was interesting in using them for wedding they set up a time to go have lunch with us and to get to know us. They are easy to talk with, friendly and you can tell they know what they are doing. Our engagement photo session was a blast! I never thought I would have so much fun taking pictures.
For the wedding... just wow. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my photos. Ladies your photos (unless you are getting your wedding video recorded) is the only thing you really take with you from the wedding. GET THEM DONE RIGHT!
Peter and Susannah not only took amazing photos but they helped with make sure we kept to a time schedule... Peter helped kept the groom and the boys on track while Susannah was with me and the girls while we were getting ready. It was perfect. Having two professional photographers was awesome! My wedding would not have been the same without them and I simply cannot thank them enough. They are FANTASTIC photographers. They are funny, kind, professional,unique and the cutest couple ever themselves.
You absolutely cannot go wrong with choosing them. I HIGHLY encourage it. My sister has decided to use them for some of her upcoming family maternity photos because of how great they are. Its worth the money! You get what you spend with photographers. Best decision we ever made!! Love you guys!! Thank you! -

Abigail Sent on 10/20/2017There was over 3 ft of snow the day of our wedding! Everything got changed at the last minute, but Peter was prepared for everything! We wanted snowy, outdoor photos and he was extremely willing to put up with the 20 degree temperature. Peter's awesome, fun personality made us forget about the cold.
Our pictures were absolutely breathtaking, and we get compliments all the time. We couldn't have asked for a better photographer and would definitely recommend Peter Mahar Photography!Peter Mahar Photography's reply:
