  Epic photos!

  We worked with Tonya for our wedding and couldn’t be happier. We have only seen the sneak peaks so far so this review is not only for Tonya’s craft and expertise in photography, which is obvious, but also just how much we loved working with her. She has great energy and we had so much fun taking photos at our wedding. The sneak peaks we have seen are absolutely gorgeous and I can’t wait to see the rest. It was raining for the first 45 minutes or so of our wedding photos and she made sure my dress didn’t get dirty outside taking photos and I really just felt at ease the whole time. We had a list of must have photos with different family members and friends and she managed to get them all in before cocktail hour ended. She was also great at rounding up the troops for photos and staying on schedule. You will not regret working with Tonya.

  Winter Wedding!

  I am thrilled to write this review for Tonya and her exceptional photography business, Par La Mer Photography. We found her over Instagram and from the moment we connected, Tonya impressed us with her professionalism, talent, and easy communication style. She beautifully captured our wedding day, exceeding all our expectations.
  
  Tonya was a pleasure to work with throughout the entire process. She was attentive to our needs and open to our specific requests, ensuring that our vision was understood. We had a couple of shots in mind, but we entrusted Tonya to use her creative eye for the majority of the shots. She delivered beyond our imagination, capturing the essence of our day with artistic flair.
  
  One aspect that stood out was Tonya's assistance in creating our wedding day timeline. She offered valuable insights and suggestions that helped us organize the day seamlessly. Her guidance played a significant role in ensuring that every precious moment was captured.
  
  Despite facing extreme weather conditions on our wedding day (the coldest day in nine years, if I recall correctly), Tonya and her second shooter, Marie, were true professionals. They braved the freezing temperatures with us and never once compromised on their commitment to capturing the perfect shots. Their dedication and resilience were truly commendable.
  
  This was our first experience having professional photos taken, and Tonya made the entire process feel effortless. Her gentle guidance and ability to put us at ease made us feel comfortable in front of the camera, despite not having modeling careers. She struck the perfect balance between offering suggestions for poses and capturing candid moments that unfolded naturally throughout the day.   Magical and stunning photos

  Tonya is a magician photographer. She was so easy to work with, passionate about her photography, and beyond organized leading up to and during our wedding. We had a ton of family members to wrangle for our photos and she and her second shooter had it down to a science, while still leaving lots of room for spontaneity.
  
  Our couple pictures were amazing - I don’t take many pictures of myself and was worried that I might feel uncomfortable but she put us totally at ease and the results speak for themselves. She even pulled us out of the reception at one point to capture some photos with the full moon in the background! They’re spectacular.

  I would chose tonya again and again! Looking back at our pictures is a dream! she really brings your story to life and ready to handle the day. Serious about the day Tonya makes sure you stay on the timeline YOU WANT. Getting allll the shots that are important to you. I can assure you, some guests will get in the way and try to derail things but Tonya gracefully kept everything moving to give us everything we dreamed of. love love love!

  The best!

  DON'T THINK TWICE - HIRE PAR LA MER PHOTOGRAPHY. Photography was one of the last things I booked, because I was struggling in this department. Struggling with cost, with editing techniques, and hiring a person who would pose us, make us laugh, and want to have fun with us. From the moment I spoke with Tonya, I knew she was going to be amazing. She set up an initial zoom call to over the thoughts of my day, and we instantly connected, and I knew she was going to be amazing. Super personable, easy to relate to, a mom and wife, who just wants to capture the best for her clients, and have the most fun while doing it, while being their most authentic self. I LOVED that she includes engagement sessions in her packages (even though I was indifferent to an engagement shoot - which made me feel less pressure about) - I felt even more comfortable and confident with her, after our amazing engagement session. She made an hour go by so quickly, and got amazing shots. Fast forward to our wedding day and just WOW! I have no words to describe how great Tonya was. She is in multiple places at one time, she knows the shots she wants and how to get it, she's quick, not afraid to pose you, does not make you look awkward, and is open to fun creative ideas that you may have. I fully trusted her to bring the magic, and she did. She helped me work through a really tough wedding timeline, and she nailed it. We received our sneaks in less than a week, just as we were landing in Fiji for our honeymoon (literally got the email as soon as we landed), which was amazing timing, and was so fun to reminisce back on our amazing wedding day with the photos. I can't wait to see all the final photos, and will likely purchase a wedding album thru her too. I hope to have the opportunity to work with her again in a different stage of our lives :) Thank you Tonya!!!

  Look no further! You've found the BEST photographer.

  We were incredibly fortunate to book Tonya for our wedding in Groton, CT on July 15, 2022. We found her on instagram and absolutely fell in love with her artistic style - her photos speak for themselves. We are only a few weeks out from our wedding and she’s already sent over some incredible sneak peaks. Both myself and my husband can’t stop looking at them! On the day, she gave us just enough direction to make us comfortable and look our best. She truly captured our personalities, connection, and emotions (as well as our most flattering angles).
  
  We had recently moved cross country and were planning our (very large) wedding remotely. With Tonya, the whole process - from initial call, booking, contract signing, planning, was absolutely seamless - that much more important for us as we were so far away. Tonya was consistently professional, friendly, and so so helpful. When I was on the fence about something as silly as picking out my wedding footwear, I consulted Tonya and she enthusiastically offered decisive advice and feedback (yes, ladies - wear the flats - we promise you won’t regret it!). I’m sure that’s outside her ‘job description’, but she was much more than a photographer for us.
  
  One special memory with Tonya is the first time we met her. We had flown home for the holidays, and decided to book our engagement shoot for that time. It happened to fall on the same day as a massive snow storm, in New York City. Tonya was highly communicative the night before, working with us and my makeup artist to come up with a plan A and alternative options. In the end, Tonya fought through the elements, the traffic, and I’m sure some very hectic planning to meet us in Brooklyn, where we got our absolutely perfect shots in the fresh snow and FREEZING weather. My husband and I only lasted 30 minutes in the cold, but Tonya would have kept going (if we weren’t such wimps). Either way that was all she needed to get the best pictures ever taken of us (and our nutso dog). And the entire time, she managed to make it FUN for us! Same goes for our wedding day. Tonya was such a calming presence when nerves were highest. Then as the day got going - with minimal time (we were pretty busy enjoying ourselves), Tonya captured gorgeous shots. We shared laughs with her and her second shooter, Marie the whole day, and you can tell from the photos just how happy we were. Also, can we talk about Tonya's STYLE? She was quite possibly our best-dressed guest.
  
  We could not recommend Tonya more highly, and I'm just sad these reviews only go to 5 stars :)

  Could not be happier!!!

  We got married on 10.22.2021 and Tonya made our experience with her such a pleasure from the beginning. Before we spoke on FaceTime I knew I wanted to book her strictly for her work but after us speaking she is so much more than just her work that made her the perfect person for us. She is so friendly, energetic, enthusiastic, accommodating, thoughtful and was open to any ideas we had. Day of the wedding Tonya was extremely patient and made us feel so comfortable and at ease. She guided us through everything while also capturing the candid raw shots which I love. Our family/wedding party adored her company as well. We received our sneak peaks shortly after the wedding and we were blown away and absolutely obsessed!! We cannot wait for the rest of our pictures to come in and keep those memories Tonya captured forever. I would recommend her and her services to anyone! Nothing short of everything we wanted.   Highly recommend

  Everything about Tonya is fantastic. Not only is she amazing at her craft but she is so friendly and makes you feel so comfortable on the other side of the lens. You almost don’t even realize that she’s there and capturing some of the biggest moments of your life. I loved working with her and I would absolutely recommend her to anyone that is looking for a photographer. Her photos are absolutely stunning. And her personality matches. Just all-around a great human being. I feel so lucky that I found her to be the photographer for my wedding, I couldn’t picture using anyone else!

  Simply the best!

  Tonya is simply the best! We hired Tonya initially to take our Engagement pictures. She was friendly, responsive, and absolutely devoted to her work. We were so in love with the resulting photos that, when we decided to cancel our Florida wedding and elope in CT instead, we didn't think twice about hiring Tonya to capture our intimate celebration. During our special day, Tonya was a joy to work with. She made us feel special and loved! Bonus: she loves dogs so our puppies got plenty of photo-attention as well :) She captured our celebration and our relationship in their truest colors--playful but passionate, corky but sincere--helping us to relieve the day and our feelings every time we look at the photos. Her work is so beautiful and authentic! We hope to work with her again and again and cannot recommend her more for capturing your special memories!

  Beyond Amazing

  One of the vendors we were most anxious about getting right is the photographer - we do not consider ourselves particularly photogenic (there are mannnnny unflattering pictures of both of us floating around) and neither are naturally comfortable in front of a camera. Tonya might have magical powers because she made us look and feel like models - both during our engagement session and our small elopement.
  
  From the outset, Tonya was friendly, comforting and professional and very responsive. She makes a point to get to understand your goals and make sure her style of shooting and editing matches your vision. I know she also takes great care in not over-booking herself so she can provide consistently high service and this really shows in the quality of her work and attention to detail. Our pictures are amazing and we will treasure them.
  
  Beyond being an awesome photographer, Tonya went truly above and beyond to help us find a perfect location for our engagement shoot and even to offer recommendations for new wedding venues when we had to downsize our event (thanks Covid...).   The best photographer!

  Tonya is absolutely incredible! She did both our engagement and wedding photos and we truly formed such an amazing bond with her. Tonya has a knack for producing really authentic photos and for making everyone feel incredibly comfortable throughout the whole process. I know that we will continue to look back at these photos for many years to come and they are truly the best souvenir of our wedding. Tonya really knows how to capture each couple's essence in such a natural way. I personally don't like super posed photos and she does such an incredible job of not making anything see posed. Her style is so unique and exactly what we were going for! I would recommend her to everyone in a heartbeat!

  June 2021 Wedding

  Tonya was so amazing to work with through our wedding planning journey. While I had no idea what really sets photographers apart, she showed me how invested she is in her couples from day one. I kept warning her that my husband and I were NOT photogenic at all and worried it would come across in all our wedding pictures, she simply laughed it off and managed to make our photos AMAZING to look back, and I’m so grateful we chose her to be a part of our day! Our original wedding plans were postponed due to COVID, but she accommodated us every step of the way, and even came to photograph our elopement last year. Whether you’re going for a minimalist type of wedding, an elopement, or going all out, Tonya and her associates (thank you Marie Cowan and Larianne Tide!) are absolutely wonderful to work with and trust them to give you the best possible memories of your wedding!

  Uh-may-zing

  Tonya at Par La Mer Photography has been an absolute gem to work with! For personal reasons, we have to postpone our wedding and then due to COVID-19 we cancelled our wedding. Tonya did an amazing job staying in touch with us to make sure we were still able to take elopement pictures instead of full scale wedding pictures. When I initially reached out to Tonya, we spoke on the phone about how my husband and I met, what I was looking for in pictures, and she spoke about her photography style and it really felt like I was talking to a friend. Even when we took pictures with her, my husband and I thought it was going to be super weird having to pose for someone who is basically staring at us with a camera; our experience with Tonya was the exact opposite!!! She made us feel incredibly comfortable while we were taking pictures and she took a lot of candid pictures in between poses as well.   What Wedding Photo Dreams Are Made Of!

  Working with Tonya was by far one of the very best experiences of our wedding planning. From the very first time we spoke on the phone, you could tell that she would be so easy to get along with. When we met for the first time the morning of the wedding, we felt so comfortable like we had already known her and worked with her before. We felt that she was the perfect combination of laid-back and flexible with discussing our thoughts and ideas for what we wanted, and at the same time extremely professional and confident in working her expertise to get the perfect shot. We had no doubt putting our trust in her to capture the very best moments of our day, that we will look back on for the rest of our lives. Getting married during a pandemic is already a whole other level of stress, and with Tonya there was just ZERO stress about anything.   Amazing experience

  Tonya was absolutely amazing. I am so glad we used Par La Mer for our wedding photography. From our first conversation, Tonya was personable and relatable and just seemed to “get” exactly what we wanted our wedding to be. We had a very DIY wedding and a lot of things weren’t quite standard about it, but Tonya stayed cool and made everything look absolutely stunning. Looking through our wedding photos, it looks like she worked some kind of magic to pull out rich colors and feature little moments that I hadn’t even known were there. The photos make me so happy. She was amazing in helping us work through schedules and plans for photography, and was game for anything we wanted to do - including an engagement shoot in a cemetery and a quick wedding-day boat ride! At one moment during the wedding, when we were trying to get through portraits and I was getting stressed, Tonya checked in with me and helped me calm down - I really appreciate that she was both professional and personal, and worked so hard to make our day easier.

  Tonya Saved Our Lives!

  We were hooked up with a bum photographer that was recommended to us. After a confusing/awkward engagement shoot we realized we needed to find another option, and quick! Our wedding was in 2 months.
  
  I found Tonya on the Thumbtack site, and immediately I felt at ease. Tonya made us feel comfortable immediately and was incredibly responsive. She knows the Metro Area and Hudson Valley very well, and suggested locations that were easy to get to. She also made the time in her busy schedule to be available for our wedding date.
  
  Immediately during our pre-wedding shoot we could see Tonya's professionalism and skill were a game changer for us. Our pre-engagement shoot was amazing, and Tonya really did whatever she needed to do to get the perfect shots. We had so many beautiful photos to choose from.
  
  Our wedding is a week away, and I'm so excited for the magic Tonya is going to work. If you're considering her and her work, you really are in the best of hands!

  I had read great reviews about Par La Mer so I reached out to Tonya under a bit of a time crunch hoping to have some engagement photos taken. I even reached out to ask for a particular image in color (it was B&W) and she had it edited and sent back to me instantly. She provided an online gallery filled with over 100 images and we are able to download them which is super convenient. I couldn't recommend her enough!

  Engagement photos

  We had our engagement photos done by Tonya last fall. It was freezing, I was sick and got snot all over my fiancé’s face, and we are VERY awkward people who didn’t know how to pose for the natural, candid photos we wanted. We are so lucky we were working with Tonya! Somehow she took our less than ideal situation and gave us a million stunning images that we cherish. She patiently guided us through our photoshoot and had tons of unique ideas that really paid off. I was really impressed by how quickly she responded to my many questions that I emailed her before we met. Her turnaround time with the photos was also extremely fast! Needless to say we are soooo excited to have her shoot our wedding this summer.

However, we of course still wanted amazing photos for our wedding. From our initial call, to communicating in the time in between, and taking pictures and receiving them - everything was done promptly, correctly, and (most importantly) personalized. When we received our photos only a mere week after taking them, we were thrilled with how beautiful they were! Overall working with Tonya was a delight! I highly recommend!
