Chris was recommended by our wedding coordinator at The Historic Post Office and with very little guidance was able to keep the attendees of our wedding entertained with music and also the photo booth for the whole night. His music selections were spot on and I myself stayed on the dance floor most of the evening. It was a great wedding and he took it over the top with the entertainment. -

I would 100% recommend booking with music makes you happy! When Chris first got to our wedding he introduced himself to the bridesmaids and asked if anyone needed anything! He also came to find me to introduce him and asked if he could get me or my husband anything! He double checked the song order before starting the ceremony as well! He did an amazinggg job and kept everyone on the dance floor all night long and I honestly wouldn’t complain about anything! Super nice, efficient, professional and very friendly. It was also very easy to communicate! -

Music Makes You Happy killed it for our wedding. Our DJ, Mike, was very responsive beforehand and got us all setup in their company portal where we could provide songs we really wanted to hear or didn't want to hear. He kept the music going all night and really was an artist up there all night. We would highly recommend! -

I cannot recommend Chris enough. I was absolutely astounded when my fiancé came to me with Chris' DJ package... I could not believe such a high level of service could be captured at such a reasonable price amid the luxury wedding industry. After one phone call with Chris, I knew I could trust him with the flow of our Reception and wouldn't have to worry about a thing. And that's exactly what happened. He created such hype among our bridal party and was so sensitive to reading the mood, the guests, and the events from begining to end. His responsiveness to adjustments (even on the day of!) was behind expectation. And his sensitivity to check in with our wishes, while also lending his expert opinion on the best choices was the perfect match for creating a personalized, thoroughly enjoyable Reception experience for two avid music lovers. What's more, Chris went above and beyond, taking the initiative and noticing our wedding video camera that had gotten left out of the details at the end of the night. And he mailed it to us by his own initiative and without delay.
In short: Chris's abilities and presence as an MC and DJ are exactly what you want managing the flow of your event. He will make sure, everything you need is covered. Don't hesitate to choose him! -

I truly can’t recommend DJ Chris (the owner) enough! He’s so kind, professional, and one of the nicest people. He went out of his way multiple times throughout the night to get drinks for my husband and me, and even held my bouquet so I could make it upstairs— above and beyond doesn’t even begin to cover it! He played a baseball-themed song to close out the best man speech that had touched on my husband’s little league days. It was such a fun and creative touch! His music choices and energy were perfect, and I’m so glad we had DJ Chris at our wedding! -

He was so much more than a DJ, he helped so much day of and was so friendly and kind to the bridal party and our guests. He even always made sure we all had drinks in our hands!
We loved that he provides you an app to upload all of your must plays, plays, and do not play songs so we could take our time filling it out as we went about wedding planning. He even let us send him a premade playlist for our cocktail hour we created! He was very responsive leading up to the event and provided excellent guidance.

Is it May? Yes. Did we get married in March? Yes. Am I still thinking about the reception? Yes. Chris is a tried and true professional. Not only did he emcee an incredible dance party that had my best man and my grandma grooving, he emcee'd the whole event. He checked in multiple times throughout the hours leading up to the ceremony to make sure everything was going smoothly. The question I got asked the most throughout the whole wedding day was "Where did you find this DJ?" quickly followed by a "He will be DJ'ing our wedding!" I can't recommend Chris and Music Makes You Happy enough. From getting their quote to the last song played on wedding day, our experience was incredible. Chris was hands down one of the best parts about our wedding day at the Historic Post Office. We hired him after attending a wedding that he was the DJ for in 2022, and he was even better than we expected at our own wedding. Communication was seamless from the start, and on top of the easy to use portals for curating playlists, he is so kind and thoughtful which added such a personal touch to our wedding. Chris went above and beyond to make sure that we were taken care of all night, and he was constantly checking on our bridal party and family members as well to make sure that we had everything we needed! Even our parents commented on how great Chris was at attending to all the guests. He kept the dance floor hopping, and our guests are still raving about it. We highly recommend Chris to anyone in the Hampton Roads area and we wouldn’t have wanted anyone else to DJ our wedding! -

From day one, the communication, patience and attentiveness was spot on. Chris answered the thousands of questions I had with quick and informative responses and kept me comfortable and confident throughout the entire planning process.
Shane was our DJ for the day of our wedding, and he was so much fun! We had three surprise choreographed dances throughout our wedding day and he managed to keep them all straight, flowing AND keep them secret! He also kept up with our multi-music walks up and down the aisle with ease. On top of everything, he kept the guests engaged and kept them DANCING! We had over 40 people on our little dance floor for a good portion of the night and everyone continued to tell us how much fun they had on the dance floor and in the photobooth (also provided by MMYH). All in all, our day was perfect, and Music Makes You Happy played a major part in that!! -

We initially were getting married in May and that was the date I initially gave Chris (the owner). But we ended up changing the date to January 14th, they were great with our change of date and very flexible with us in this way. On the day of the wedding, Alan arrived and was very helpful with everything as was AMAZING, we got married at the Aquarium on Roanoke Island in the Outer Banks and he worked with us and where we wanted things set up and the music we wanted. He was so fun and energetic and it was also my birthday and he got everyone to sing me Happy Birthday. When the Anniversary Dance came he did amazing and for the last couples that were standing, he asked them what advice they had for us as the newlyweds. Overall, it was an amazing experience with the company and the people. I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone looking for a DJ in the Outer Banks or the Hampton Roads area. They arent just DJs but they help you in any way that can and are excited to help. -

Could not be happier with our choice of using “Music Makes You Happy”. Staff was friendly, accommodating, flexible, affordable, and truly cared about our guests having a good time. We had our wedding at a church, our reception at another venue, and had cocktail hour out side. The crew made sure we had music at all of our different spots with no delay in service. Our DJ Chris responded to the crowd and kept our guests on the dance floor all night. He would continuously check in with us in case we had any requests or even if we needed a drink. To me Chris and the staff at “Music makes you Happy” not only care about providing a quality experience, but they seem to truly care you and your guests have a great time. A+ -

My venue had preferred vendors and the DJ's were one of them. I settled on Music Makes You Happy (MMYH) and 1 other DJ. I asked another vendor I was close with if she worked with either and she suggested MMYH. After speaking with them and looking at their packages again, I went with them and chose their All Nighter Package. It included up lights and a photo booth. Throughout the whole process, they made it super easy with their questionnaires. Our family and friends love to party so an amazing DJ was a must have. MMYH did not disappoint. Mike Dodson was our DJ and amazing to have as a part of my vendor team. -

HIGHLY recommend them!!! After my first phone conversation with Chris, I knew we would book them as our wedding DJ. Chris during all of our interactions was professional, honest, helpful and hilarious! On our big day he went through everything with me to make sure I knew what was happening and that we were on the same page. He stepped in to help dig up the bourbon (we COULD NOT find it lol!), he was making sure we had drinks the whole night, his timing and execution of everything was perfect. On top of the fact that him and Mike (we got a surprise that both Mike and Chris were going to DJ!) are phenomenal DJs and can read a room like nothing else. They made our reception SO FUN!! We are beyond pleased with Chris Rice and Music Makes You Happy! Chris was a phenomenal deejay. From the moment the ceremony wrapped up, Chris hand brought my husband and I our drink of choice. He always made sure we had a drink in our hand and we absolutely loved this because neither of us had time to run to the bar for a drink and thanks to Chris we did not need to.
Chris was on top of everything I had asked of him even with a few last minute changes, he nailed it. From smooth transitions before the grand entrance to the dances to the speeches. Chris also has an infectious energy about him. I received so many compliments from my guests about Chris.
Chris was easy to work with from the start when my husband and I first reached out. We knew right away we wanted to work with him just off of our initial phone conversation. Also the system he uses to help his couples select the music playlists and do not playlist is easy and not time consuming at all.
Chris kept the party going from start to finish! We loved how he made sure we were on the dance floor before he played our favorite songs. Chris is fun and energetic and everything we hoped we’d have in a deejay. We will always recommend Chris Rice and Music Makes You Happy. -

Our day of coordinator recommended Chris and MMYH as our DJ as soon as we started looking. It was one of the best decisions we could have made. Chris ended up being the DJ for our wedding and was beyond helpful and professional. He made sure my brother (our Officiant), and our readers were all set up for the ceremony and that my Dad was good to go on his speech at the reception. We didn't give him a ton of direction with music but he played everything we could of wanted and the vibes were great the whole night. He was accommodating with some random special requests (like a birthday shout out) and made sure my husband and I had the best night. He even played a song during cocktail hour that we got to dance to before everyone came down for the reception, it was so memorable and special to us. We were overwhelmed with how awesome he made our day! 1000% recommend him!!! -

We had an amazing experience both working with Music Makes You Happy throughout the planning process and when it finally came time to celebrate our special day! They always maintained a positive attitude and went above and beyond to meet and even anticipate some of our needs. Planning a wedding during a pandemic was not always a pleasant experience, but Chris Rice and Music Makes You Happy worked with us through reschedules and stressful days and really helped make the experience as smooth and easy as possible. When it came down to our event I couldn't be happier. Our DJ Alan made us both feel at ease and helped navigate our schedule to make our event flow perfectly. He even helped us organize a very last minute photographer addition to help make sure we got all the pictures we could possibly want! I seriously cannot recommend this company enough!! Chris Rice was the DJ/MC with Music Makes You Happy Entertainment that did our wedding and he was a BLAST! He gave us a pep-talk and walked us and our wedding party through the reception grand entrance, during photos he came over a few times to make sure my husband and I didn't need drinks or snacks, he kept us on track with timing of all the events we wanted to get done (cake cutting, bouquet toss, etc.), balanced the dance floor well keeping it full but giving break songs to breathe. He was so much fun and interacted with us and the guests just the right amount. Everyone leaving our wedding asked for his contact info because of how amazing he was! Chris added a level of comfort to the day, knowing we were in good hands throughout it all. His professionalism and warm personality, and interaction with the guests....just wow. The day was seamless. MMYH provides mics for the ceremony, speeches, photobooth (which was an awesome addition btw!) and wonderful music for the entire event. 10 stars if I could. Shout out to the most flexible and caring DJ out there, Chris. We had multiple date changes due to Covid, the last change was only 2 days before the wedding but Chris was there without a problem. I had little time to organize things but he nailed it for me. He was also one of the few people to consistently check in on me and make sure I was doing okay. The music and lighting was beautiful. Everything went smooth and I had many compliments. Chris was our amazing DJ! He went above and beyond with every detail about our wedding! Not only was he incredibly flexible with us considering COVID-19, and we booked with him under 90 days before our venue, he never made us feel rushed or pressured. All of his worksheets online helped prompt us to think of certain details throughout the reception and ceremony that we didn’t even know was an option. Chris was familiar with our venue at The Barns of Kanak, but he added his own personal touch the entire wedding. He had our officiant miccced up and ready to go very smoothly, he checked on us , the bride and groom during the reception many times for drinks or anything we could need. To top everything off, we ended up changing the “grand exit” time last minute to accommodate our guests going home early. So Chris announces the next song to play will be the last song before the exit, and our guests are enjoying the song but no ones really at the dance floor. Chris cuts the music, brings us, the bride and groom out in the middle of the dance floor, and has everyone circle us and asks everyone to sing at the top of their lungs to “Don't stop believing”! It was such a special and fun way to get everyone together one last time before we made our exit! Having that memory of all of our friends and family smiling at us and singing and raising their hands is something I have forever now. We really couldn’t have asked for more, and will ALWAYS, highly recommend this DJ company before any other! -

Chris Rice and MMYH is the only DJ anyone needs to use! He was in contact with me in the months leading up to my wedding, helping me search for songs to meet my picky requests, slowed down my first dance song at my husband's request, played all the songs I asked him to, listened to the vibe of our crowd and knew what to do to get everyone up and dancing and had perfect timing with knowing when to comment on the mic or let things roll. Life of the party!
Our DJ Mike was amazing! He had such a cool demeanor, played everything we had on our must-play list, and he took requests live from our guests. When people were requesting songs on our do not play list - he discreetly asked us what we wanted to do. It truly felt like a party celebrating at our wedding and we are so grateful! We also used the photo booth through them - the guests had a blast and we were also sent digital copies of all of them a couple weeks later. Couldn't recommend them enough! -

Chris was so fun to work with; he kept people out on the dance floor playing music for everybody! We had a split crowd: lots of people in their 20s and lots of people 50+ and Chris had a song for everyone. He has a way of quickly getting to know the vibe of your wedding and he has the experience to pick the right songs at the right time. We were running behind and had a couple of issues behind the scenes and he was able to roll with the punches so our guests never suspected a thing. We couldn't recommend Chris more highly! Don’t look for another DJ!
I cannot say enough good things about Chris Rice. He came recommended to me by someone, and I am SO glad I booked him over the other company I was looking at. He answered all the questions I had and more, he had great ideas, was the timeline manager, kept the party going, and spoke up for me when I needed it. Many guests told me he was the best Dj they’ve seen. I have so many amazing pictures of my guests having the time of their lives on the dance floor, and I am so grateful that Chris brought that out of them. You aren’t going to get a better Dj! Chris Rice was the perfect fit for our wedding and was a key player in making the day come together. He was the ideal balance of fun and meticulous, not to mention his radio voice! He understood how to entertain a crowd and how to deliver the experience we desired our guests to have. He did both the sound for our ceremony and reception, and was able to take a sampling of music we gave him to come up with a full playlist of songs that fit us.
Chris made himself available every time we had questions or wanted help finding the perfect song for part of our day. He also had an excellent understanding of wedding timelines and helped us tremendously as we figured out what we wanted our day to look like. He was responsible and professional every step of the way. He was even committed to keeping our secrets! The bride wanted her first dance and father/daughter dance songs to be a surprise for her. She also planned to surprise her mother with a special dance between the two of them. Chris managed to keep all these secrets without forgetting any other important details throughout the day.
We were pleased to be able to work with the owner of this company directly, and after our experience with him, I’d recommend his business to anyone. If he puts as much thought and care into his company as he did our wedding, then I would vouch for any DJ that he makes part of his team. -

The thing no one can say about their wedding is that it went perfect... there is always something that you weren’t planning on/went the wrong way/or even failed lol
But I can surely say that music , announcements and wedding games went perfect on my special day!
Tyler Wilson did an amazing job communicating starting day one, following up, coordinating, and stayed on point on the day of the wedding.
He was prompt, very polite, organized and genuinely super nice person!
I am more then pleased with experience and will definitely recommend to anyone I know!

Chris and his staff were fantastic on our wedding day. They were very thorough in their questionnaires beforehand and have a very easy-to-navigate website where you can list all of your "must play" songs and all of your "absolutely do not play" songs. Chris was very responsive to emails and the pricing was very reasonable. He was also able to provide a photobooth and do multiple printouts so guests could take a copy home and paste a copy into our guestbook. He was very accommodating and helpful throughout the entire planning process as well, and did a great job as the emcee during the wedding itself. Thank you Chris!!
