I’m really not sure where to even start. We found out about the Mountain House at a local dog park and after reading reviews online and one simple conversation with Julie, I was ready to book the venue without seeing it in person. The second we pulled onto the property my fiancé and I looked at each other and said “this is it”. We literally could not imagine getting married anywhere but the Mountain House.
Julie and Frank are simply the best. From the very beginning, they were wonderful at communication and gave us thorough recommendations based on their experiences to make sure our wedding day was the best. I was definitely not a low maintenance bride and I emailed Julie 1-2x/week and she always responded with thoughtful and honest advice, which I so appreciated while planning a wedding.
We rented out the farmhouse and suite for our weekend and we are so happy we did, as we were able to spend so much extra time with our wedding party. All of our friends were raving about our weekend being the best wedding they have ever attended, due to the uniqueness of the property (and not to mention how beautiful it was). The houses are in great condition and have so much character. We can’t wait to go back and stay there for a weekend!
We had 105 guests at our wedding and this was the perfect number for the Mountain House, as we felt like it was still an intimate wedding feel with all the amenities. It was raining the day of our wedding, but Julie and Frank worked closely with our DJ to track the rain to make sure we could get married in the field like we wanted to, and it worked out absolutely perfect.
I don’t have enough words to describe how thankful we are for Julie and Frank and their beautiful Mountain House property. They are so personable and it felt like more than just a wedding venue to us. We love the mountains and our day was more than we could ever imagine. Getting ready with my girls in front of the mountain drop is a memory I will hold closely forever! As well as the entire weekend, from start to finish.
If you are looking for a unique, rustic, and special place for your wedding, don’t look any further. From the breathtaking views, the amenities, Julie and Frank’s compassion, to the epic reception party, to all of the help leading up to the event, we could not have asked for a better wedding weekend. We love you Julie and Frank! We will be back to visit :) -

Beyond any expectations I had
This was the perfect venue with the most laid back vibe. The location, the picturesque mountain backdrop was breathtaking. Julie went above and beyond to make everything I wanted/needed happen without a hassle or any stress. The food… amazing. And you can BYOB !!!’ Which was huge on us saving money as the booze! -

Mountain House on Sunday River was everything and more we could have wanted for our summer wedding. You will be awestruck by the beauty of the landscape of inland Maine. All the tranquility and privacy that nature has to offer and a dazzling view of the Milky Way and constellations at night. The venue has many options for the wedding ceremony whether it's the Pine Cathedral surrounded by towering trees adding privacy for you and your guests or the Mountain View Meadow out in the open under the mountains and sunset. We had ours in the Pine Cathedral. The venue hosts, Julie and Frank, are some of the most genuine people we have met. Julie was easily accessible and happy to answer all of our questions and concerns over the phone or through email. Julie and Frank also have great working relationship with the food and drink vendors to help recommend all that you may need for your reception. After talking and spending time with the two of them, it is easy to see that they have great passion for bringing people together and care greatly for the property and making sure it is as majestic as your wedding day should be. I highly recommend giving Julie and Frank a call. -

Amazing An Perfect
This experience was amazing- we got married during the Covid pandemic, Julie an Frank were so accommodating from the very start. They were always so easy to talk to an with all of the different questions that we had. The venue itself is breathtaking from the moment you arrive- there are so many different options at the Mountain House No matter what your style they are able to accommodate.
One of the things I truly loved was being able to have our family as well as our wedding party stay on site it made for great memories an great laughs.
I truly can’t Thank Frank an Julie enough for making our Wedding Day so amazing, they truly are what makes the Mountain House stand out from any other venue -

Simply Amazing
The Mountain House was a fantastic venue for our wedding! Julie and Frank were amazing and really helped to coordinate for two people that had no idea what we were doing. The lodging was comfy and there was plenty of room so that nobody felt claustrophobic. The study in the farmhouse was particularly nice for me; it was the perfect place to convene with my groomsmen the night before the ceremony to finish writing my vows and the officiant's portion of the ceremony. The decor is great, not to mention the outdoor spaces and all the natural beauty and scenic views around the grounds. The Pine Cathedral was our chosen site for the ceremony, and it was lovely even without any extra decor. The next morning we went outside and found a perfect set of moose tracks through the altar space! Our wedding was pretty small since it was a destination wedding with about half of those invited being from Texas, but it never felt like there was too much space. At the same time, it felt like we could have easily had triple the people there without it feeling crowded at all. The way everything is so well planned out and put together between the deck, the barn, the fire pit, and even the bathrooms just made everything perfect for the reception after the ceremony. I think that two things stood out most to me about the Mountain House and our experience: the first was the absolutely gorgeous scenery of the mountains and woods of western Maine. We had our wedding in early-mid May, so not everything was green and lush yet but the views were still breathtaking. I must've walked down to the river across the field a half-dozen times while I was there just to enjoy the scenery. Our photographer had even come up the day before the wedding and spent it driving around the area getting great photos of the scenery. The second thing that stood out most was the help that Julie and Frank provided us with in coordinating everything. Between the catering and equipment rentals and everything else that went into preparing the wedding and reception, there was no way either my wife nor I would have been able to actually focus on the "getting married" part of the weekend without Julie's help. The only time I spoke to a vendor after we arrived was when I told the chef how good his prime rib was; Julie handled everything concerning vendor arrival, setup, breakdown, etc. and it really made the weekend a breeze from a coordination standpoint. Since the wedding itself was early and the reception was going to run until late, Julie had the idea to get doughnuts and cider from a local orchard so our guests could have an evening nosh; both were delicious and everyone raved about them. Did I mention that said orchard is owned by Stephen King? Seriously, I can't say enough about how great Julie and Frank were. Our wedding was as perfect as any could be. The ceremony was beautiful, the reception was joyous, everyone had a great time, and the Mountain House on Sunday River made it all possible. If you're looking for a beautiful outdoor venue in Maine with great people to work with, this is your place. -

My fiance and I decided not to book with Mountain House on Sunday River but only because of the logistics of family travel as I have several members coming from different states.
I want to take the time to just acknowledge how responsive and helpful Julie was during this whole process! We are having a very small intimate wedding and have found that very hard to book (especially with the popular rustic feel) because most venues want 50+ as their minimum guest list. Julie was so helpful creating a package and brochure for us that suited what we were looking for. She responded to all of my questions and concerns so promptly and even came to us with back up plans and alternative approaches in case the weather turned for our wedding day.
Despite having found a venue closer to home Mountain House on Sunday River was a top contender for us to choose as our venue and I just wanted to share the wonderful experience I had. Planning a wedding can be so stressful, especially when you have such a small wedding but want a very specific vision for your wedding and Julie was one of the few venues that made me hopeful I wouldn't have to compromise on my vision. -

Fall Wedding at Sunday River
Julie and Frank were instrumental in making our daughter's wedding on October 13, 2018 a perfect day to remember always. When we first contacted them, Julie and Frank were excited, responsive, and so willing to offer creative options for customizing the day in any way we wanted! The fall at The Mountain House on Sunday River is exceptionally beautiful, with the fall foliage on full display. The meadow, overlooking Sunday River, was the perfect spot for the ceremony with the mountains awash in a sea of reds, oranges, and yellows. Julie was our "Day of..." coordinator as well, and we felt relieved knowing that she would take care of every detail, thus eliminating some of the wedding "stress." We are very particular about details, and though we must have driven Julie crazy with such attention to these details, she never showed any irritation with our questions, suggestions, or worries as we planned a "mountain chic" wedding. Instead, she assured us that all would be done exactly as we asked, and it was! On the day of the wedding, it rained on and off several times before the ceremony. After each shower, Frank dutifully went to the meadow and wiped 160 chairs dry for our guests. Finally, just as the hour approached, the clouds parted and the setting was magical- blue sky and puffy white clouds just as we had hoped! Julie and Frank took care of every detail no matter how small or insignificant, and opened their venue, including two homes for our guests, for the most fun weekend. We couldn't have been happier with the venue or with the coordination and assistance of Julie and Frank. It was a weekend we'll never forget and we highly recommend The Mountain House if you're looking for a beautiful outdoor setting for your wedding. You won't be disappointed! -

Richelle Sent on 11/20/2017Our Wedding at the Mountain House this August with Julie was absolutely perfect! The property and site were unbelievably breathtaking. The farmhouse and lodge accommodations were clean, comfortable, and prefect for our entire wedding party guests. It was so nice to be on-site the entire weekend with our party and so close for all the events. We never left the property the entire weekend. We had our lobster bake rehearsal dinner on site, highly recommended. The wedding catering and food was delicious and far exceeded our expectations for any wedding we've been to. They worked so well to accommodate dietary needs. The set-up of everything was just stunning. The dancing on the breeze barn deck was welcoming for all. The guest were all raving about the food and property. Julie was a huge help from start to finish and we planned our wedding in 4-months from where we reside in North Carolina today not having seen it in person until that weekend. I was in love with everything the minute we drove up to it and had a huge smile on my face. We couldn't have done it without Julie and Frank. The fire pit was a lovely gathering place. The pine forest was amazing for our ceremony with the mid afternoon sunlight. There were so many wonderful places to take photos on sight with great lighting, a photographers dream. Perfect in every single way! Take time to breath it all in. How we got so lucky to have the most amazing wedding there during prime wedding season in short notice was a true blessing we are so grateful for. I want to relive it all over again.

Lois Sent on 11/17/2017My daughter was married at the Mountain House on Sunday River this past October 2017. We had almost 200 guests. It surpassed all of our expectations in every way. The setting of the property was breathtaking. Being able to stay there the entire weekend in such homey lodging added so much more quality time with our family and friends. We had our ceremony in the pine grove chapel. It could not have been more beautiful. The reception under the tent followed by dancing in the attached barn area was just the perfect place to celebrate. (Most of our guests stayed just 5 minutes away at the Sunday River Grand Summit Hotel. The outdoor pool, inclusive breakfast and spacious rooms were perfect. All of our guests were thrilled to be there).
Additionally, Julie and Frank of the Mountain House were wonderful to work with from start to finish. They could not have been more accommodating to some of our special requests. The last thing I said to Julie before leaving was to thank her for creating this very special venue. It truly was a gift to have been there for one of the happiest occasions of our lives.
Lastly, I can not tell you how many of our friends and family sincerely stated that our wedding was one of the best and most beautiful they have ever been to. We could not highly recommend Mountain House enough. -

There is nothing that could have gone any better on the day of our wedding, from the weather to the food to the company. Julie and Frank have put so much effort and hard work in to making this property shine. The mountain views are to die for! The houses on the property are filled with rustic charm. The grounds have a lovely, rustic atmosphere. Whats even better - there was room for both of our families to stay on location all weekend. There's also a terrific bridal suite perfect for getting ready on the day of with your ladies AND for spending some alone time with your new spouse after the celebrations are over.
Our ceremony was in the 'outdoor cathedral' and our guest sat on the large hemlock benches. We put up a birch arbor and bunches of wild flowers. A storm was brewing during our ceremony and the wind blowing through the trees made everything very whimsical. Just after we said our I do's it started down-pouring...making everything all the more memorable! (Thankfully Julie had thought ahead and had umbrellas at the ready for our guests!)
A really cute, New England style covered bridge is just 2 minutes down the road - perfect for pictures.
From check-in on Friday to check-out on Sunday Julie and Frank went above and beyond to ensure we had things exactly the way we wanted.
During the planning process Julie was also there every step of the way to make sure things were in order. She was always just a phone call or an e-mail away - always quick to respond. It was so nice to have a real person willing to help and answer questions - and talk me off the edge as wedding planning got stressful! She helped us pick out some absolutely amazing local vendors and gave us great suggestions for favors and decor.
Our guest have had nothing but wonderful things to say about the area, the property, and the wonderful atmosphere on our big day. We can't recommend the Mountain House enough!
