    Gorgeous, intimate, DIY barn wedding!

Mount Gulian was a perfect setting for our dream wedding. The views are incredible, the grounds are beautiful. We had our ceremony in the garden, then our reception in the beautiful barn, which despite humidity and warm weather, stayed cool with their big fan. We planned to have our cocktail hour on the lawn, but due to some light rain, had to move it to the barn. But no one knew the difference, everyone had a great time. This versatility was great – we knew that rain or shine we’d be taken care of. Because it’s a very DIY space (you will need to rent everything from ice to restrooms) we would recommend a wedding planner. Stephanie from Just Hitched was who we worked with – she used to work exclusively at MG and knew it inside and out. But having the DIY space was perfect. We had a wood-fired pizza truck (Itsa Pizza), designed the space exactly how we wanted, our own table settings, decorations and DJ, etc. Everything was customizable to what we wanted for our wedding. The staff at MG was perfect and accommodating, helping us every step of the way.

We fell in love with Mount Gulian from the moment we stepped on the grounds. Jess was absolutly amazing - sweet, responsive, flexible, understanding and down to earth. We had a change of wedding plans which no longer allowed us to keep our wedding at Mount Gulian and Jess and Elaine were nothing short of amazing. They worked with us to try to make it doable, and in the end, we had to scale down our guest list and budget and they were so understanding and supportive, even offered us to borrow items and suggested alternative venues - one of which we ended up at! If you want a gorgeous location and amazing people to work with, to go Mount Gulian, you won't be dissappointed.

We absolutely LOVED everything about Mt.Gulian from the moment we toured the grounds. Jessica was great to work with and very thorough with her information and details leading up to the day. We were in constant contact and felt at ease about all of the vendors dropping off/picking up supplies before and after the event. We had a beautiful reception and everyone had a great time. It was everything we were looking for and more, rustic, elegant and laid back. You will have to do everything planning wise, but it is great that you get to work with whom ever you want. I'm a little bit of a control freak and want to confirm things myself so I didn't have a problem with this. If you get easily overwhelmed you might want to hire a coordinator.

Mount Gulian was our first and only choice for our wedding day. It was so rewarding to be able to use a historic site as our venue, guests really loved being there and spoke about wanting to go back and visit again. It was really something unique for guests to be able to see, as well as a special place for us to work with. The site is so breathtaking that we felt like we barely had to decorate or else it would just take away from how beautiful the scenery and buildings are on their own. It was really nice to find out that they only do one wedding per weekend and that we had the house, garden, and barn to use for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. Although we had some staff changes throughout the planning process, everyone we worked with from start to finish was friendly and accommodating and helped our day run smoothly. Just know that you will have to depend highly on rentals since there is no kitchen, tables, chairs etc. This wasn't a problem at all, but just something to think about. Overall we could not be happier with Mount Gulian as our wedding venue, it was beautiful and will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

I can't possibly say everything I want to about how much I loved Mount Gulian! The price is an amazing value. The history of the site is extremely special. The stone house and Dutch barn are to die for, and the view of the Hudson River along with a stunning garden are incredible. To top it off, Kim helped to coordinate and make our day run so smoothly! Our guests were blown away by the lush green gardens and forest surrounding the ceremony/cocktail hour location and the whimsical setting of the reception in the barn. I highly recommend Mount Gulian - both for its aesthetic and the wonderful staff!

We love Mount Gulian! It is such a hidden gem in the Hudson Valley and we're so glad we stumbled upon it. The view of the Hudson, the gardens, the house, and the barn will take your breath away! Our guests couldn't stop talking about how beautiful it was. Our coordinator Jessica was super helpful and made sure all the details were set. It is pricey in the long run because the cost doesn't include anything except the use of the space, so you have to bring in a caterer, rentals, etc. but it was so worth it. I see other reviewers have said that it was stressful dealing with multiple coordinators - I also was in contact with a few changing coordinators but I still felt that everything flowed nicely and it didn't affect anything at all. Thank you so much, Mount Gulian!

This is the most beautiful venue you'll ever see, especially on a clear, sunny day. Our guests were blown away by the venue and the river view from it. The grounds are beautiful and there is a huge lawn, a garden and a two and a half century old barn where various parts of the day can take place. The historic house is small and very picturesque. If you are into DIY, there is a lot of room for creativity here and the day before the event can be used to set up. Mount Gulian is a little gem on the Hudson Valley and we can't say enough about its charm. Do yourselves a favor and visit.

Loved this venue, gorgeous! Dealing with 3 different events coordinators in a year was a little disconcerning, but with a few little misunderstands everything was great! And Kim was fantastic day of.

Mount Gulian made for a breathtaking place to have our wedding. Even though it was raining, everything went smoothly. Honestly the rain added a magical quality to the wedding and even though everyone got muddy in the tent outside the barn, I think it also made people much more laid back and ready to party--the dancing started during cocktail hour and didn't stop until the very end!! The only complaint we had was with the staff at Mount Gulian. The event coordinators were all nice enough (Tiffany, Liz and then Morgana)--except that they kept changing. It's really stressful when you've discussed all the details with one person only to get an email from a new person informing you that they're the new coordinator. It seems like whoever is "in charge" is hard to deal with--they were very rigid in every aspect (we let them know more than 1 week before the wedding that our final # of guests had decreased but they refused to let us write them a new check--even though they hadn't even received the old one in the mail yet! They claimed that as per their contract "renters would not be reimbursed for No-Shows"--they weren't "no-shows" they were people we knew were not coming from ahead of time.) Another example of this is that the groom had to clean up all the decomposing fruit that had fallen from the trees in the garden area the day before the wedding. We asked them if they could clean it up, they refused stating that their gardener wasn't available to do maintenance. There was a whole slew of Mount Gulian employees just standing around that day, but no one went out there to help my husband clean up the smelly, black decomposing mess. There are quite a few more examples, nothing world-ending, but it sucks to pay so much money and not feel like it was worth it. The staff could have made all the difference if they were just a bit more flexible and understanding.

    Pretty DIY Venue

I got married at Mount Gulian in September, 2019. The natural beauty of Mount Gulian is what attracted us. The garden surrounded by lush forest, the huge lawn with the Hudson River in the background, and the cute dutch colonial.. our photographer had plenty of beautiful backdrops. The barn was cute as well and provided a blank slate for us to make it our own. I was attracted to this at first but this venue did prove to be more work than I expected. You should know that you need to rent ALL of the tables, chairs, silverware, linen etc etc.. you also need to rent a dumpster, provide water service.. and additional bathrooms if you have over 100(?) guests. I would recommend having at least a year to plan a wedding here. We had 7 months to plan and felt rushed. The staff here are not wedding people- they are museum people. They are nice enough but don't expect much. Their #1 concern is that you treat the venue with respect and follow the rules-which they have many. They did stay out of our hair the day of which was a relief. The price is nice but there are a lot of additional costs (rentals) and extra work (planning layouts/setting up/taking down). If you are looking for the best "package deal" this is definitely not your place. If you want a DIY wedding, this is it! All in all, our wedding was beautiful. We were blessed with a beautiful day and our guests loved taking advantage of all the space. I recommend Mount Gulian but just make sure you have plenty of time to plan!

This location is absolutely gorgeous, however, it is not something I would recommend for people looking for ease. Our wedding went off and was spectacular but the site cause MANY headaches before it all happened. Employees were late, grounds were covered in branches which we had to clean up, and there were leaks in the barn supposed to shelter our guests.
