Disappointed and would not recommend
I have written and rewritten this review and given it more thought/time than I honestly should. If I could summarize our experience with Moushal it would be disappointing, upsetting, and unprofessional. After our event, where we received subpar service (details below), we (my partner and I) sent several emails to the owner, Jack, before I called him.
Once I finally did get him on the phone, Jack did hear me out, and even apologized. He returned $200 (which we didn’t ask for), but this gesture felt like too little too late. He did mention that his responses were slow since he works full-time.
Below is a summary of what transpired. I have stated the facts as objectively and fairly as possible to let the readers of the review reach their own conclusions
• The company was unorganized, missed phone calls with us, and were never clear with a timeline of when materials were needed from us.
• We hadn’t heard anything from them up until the start of the week before our wedding and only after we reached out to Jack to ask him what he needed from us. We did not hear back from him until the end of the week when wedding events had already started.
• We sent the DJ assigned to us the schedule for the day in three different formats and also sent a curated playlist from Spotify for him to work from, which included specific songs that had special meaning to us.
• The DJ texted the groom and a groomsmen all throughout the wedding day for details that had been provided via emails, and were included in the original contract we signed. The venue owner even sent him the schedule of the events.
• The DJ never contacted the Wedding Planner, which was included in the paperwork we sent in several months before the wedding. The owner claimed that he never received the paperwork, though email receipts show that it was sent 5 months before our wedding. He claimed that we were to blame and that this was a miscommunication on our part.
• The assigned DJ showed up and complained about having to work at the event to our wedding coordinator and our officiant, and then refused to MC the event, which was included as services to be provided.
• When talking to Jack, he actually stated that Moshal didn’t want to be at our wedding, blaming lack of communication from us. He stated that we had sent the requested information late even though we had to reach out several times to him asking for all the information that they needed from us. Once they did let us know what they needed, we provided all the information in a timely manner.
• Service Mishaps:
o The DJ started playing the processional music too early at least three times despite the coordinator attempting to regulate the timing.
o During the cocktail hour, the DJ was unprepared and did not have the information we sent and was thus forced to improvise.
o When we enter the reception, he didn’t play anything, because again, he didn’t have the song loaded up that we had requested for the entrance.
o He refused to make any announcements leaving our coordinator and officiant to step in.
o He turned the mike off and on during toasts.
◦ He played first dance music too early.
• Overall, after reflecting on our communications with Moushal, it appears that Moshunal left their DJ unprepared for the event, which ultimately reflects poorly on their business practices.
And finally I wanted to impose one last point in this review. The groom is what he call himself an ordinary working-class white kid from Montana, but I, however, am not. Neither are much of our family and friends. I understand that DJs like to add some of their own creativity to what they play, and that they don’t want to work straight from a closed set list and expected this. However, as a Chicana/Latinx individual, we had a good number of Cumbias on the playlist. The DJ didn’t play any of them until both me and my mother directly asked him to do so, after about an hour of patiently enduring his creativity.
His reply to my mother was: “Don’t worry, I got your brown people music coming.” Understandably she was upset, and didn’t say anything until a few days later, because she didn’t want to bring it up on her daughter’s wedding day. We later found out that he also made a comment on the makeup of the wedding population to the coordinator, commenting he had “never seen so many Mexicans in Montana.”
Even though he may not have meant either comment negatively, he simply did not have the rapport to make that comment. And no matter which way you cut it, it’s not a good look, whatever he meant by that. When we brought it up to the owner, he said he would need clarification before he could comment on it. However, in subsequent messages he questioned what was really said and whether or not my mom heard correctly. A racist comment can be made without someone realizing it is racist, but we clearly communicated was how it was interpreted regardless of intention. Jack did eventually apologize after we reached him via phone after he didn’t respond to my email on the matter.
To conclude, I would not recommend them.
