Beautiful hotel

I definitely recommend the Mills house to anyone considering a wedding there. The renovations to the rooms and lobby are beautiful. The food was delicious and all the staff were very attentive. Eric was a pleasure to work with. He listened to all my questions, concerns and walked me through all the details to ensure it was everything I had envisioned. Mary was also very thoughtful in following up to make sure we had a gray time. Thank you again for making it a wonderful night!

Great experience at the Mills House

The Mills House did a spectacular job making our wedding weekend a total joy and success. They were very easy to work with from the start in 2019, through a rescheduling due to COVID, and finally to the wedding in April of 2022. We hosted a welcome party, wedding/reception, and Sunday brunch. The food, service, and ambiance were all excellent. Kaitlyn assured us that once the planning was done, all we needed to do was show up and she was totally correct!

Incredible Wedding Venue

Everything about our wedding was perfect thanks to the entire staff at The Mills House, specifically Katelin Hancock! We are from Philadelphia and booked and planned our entire wedding without seeing the Hotel. Katelin was so accommodating with FaceTime appointments and helped to make sure we were comfortable booking. Her communication was seamless, friendly and prompt. I trusted her immensely due to how well she communicated with us. Planning the wedding was a breeze. While the hotel has great wedding packages to offer, they were always flexible if we had questions whether it be around hors d'oeuvres selections, food allergies, beverage selections, floor plans, etc. I always felt true attention and care to make sure we had the wedding we envisioned. The Hotel is stunningly beautiful, the rooms are clean and updated (a bit small but that's okay), the front desk was SO friendly to all of our guests, the restaurant and bar staff were kind and attentive, housekeeping staff was fast and very friendly, and the location in downtown Charleston is perfect. The reservations team was extremely helpful with our room block details, and Danielle and Patty were always quick to respond. Our wedding was for only about 55 guests, so our ceremony was on the Meeting Street Terrace, Cocktail Hour in Queen Street Gallery and reception in the Signer's Ballroom. All spaces were well maintained and beautiful. The banquet staff was extremely friendly and the food was fantastic. The server who took care of us at the sweetheart table was so polite and professional and made sure we always had what we needed before we asked. The valet/bellmen were also so helpful and patient as my husband and I had a lot to carry in when we first arrived. I can't say enough positive things about The Mills House and especially Katelin, along with the rest of the staff. I highly recommend hosting your wedding here!

Best Party EVER!

We were lucky enough to have our planner suggest Mills House for my granddaughter's Bat Mitzvah party. It was amazing! Best party ever! The party rooms we used were perfect for our guests. The staff was helpful and very professional. They even helped me find my shoes after dancing! The food was spectacular. It is a beautiful venue and so convenient to everything in Charleston. I had to have a last minute dinner for surprise out-of-town guests and they immediately came to my rescue in the Barbados Room. No one knew this was thrown together in 2 days! It was flawless. Our Mills House coordinator was always available for any questions and she was knowledgeable, professional and fun! She took the stress out of this big event. I didn't worry about anything. The guest rooms were lovely. I have another granddaughter having a Bat Mitzvah and we will absolutely use the Mills House.

Memorable Rehearsal Dinner

We worked with Katelin, the Wedding and Social Events Manager, at
The Mills House to reserve the Planters Suite for our son and daughter-in-law's rehearsal dinner for 24 adults and 2 children. The venue was beautiful, and Katelin provided helpful advice as we selected the entrees, appetizers, and room layout. On the evening of the event, the Banquet Manager and his staff provided excellent, friendly service. All of the food was delicious and many of our guests commented on how much they enjoyed the appetizers and their meals. It was a perfect evening!

A great choice

We are so happy that we chose the Mills House for our November 2021 wedding reception. From the moment we first inquired about availability to the moment we checked out from the hotel after our wedding, Katelin (the wedding/events manager) and the entire Mills House team were there for us and executed a flawless event. The food was amazing (we may be biased, but, seriously, the food was terrific-- huge thanks to the chefs and kitchen team); the set-up was perfect; the hotel staff were always helpful and accommodating-- even with last minute requests; and the reception/events team were kind and helpful. None of it would have happened without Katelin. We could not thank her enough for all that she did. From responding promptly to numerous emails to taking time to show us around the Mills House (at least three times) to making sure we had a place to just sit quietly before the reception (with food and bev, too!) to everything else that was needed for the actual reception, she was unfailingly helpful, thoughtful, kind, and prompt. Finally, an added perk: the location is great, particularly for any out-of-town wedding guests who choose to stay there and don't have a car but want to explore Charleston.

The Mills House is Magical

Boston here! Thank you Mills House for creating the Most Magical Event of our Lives. When I walking in 2 years ago I canceled my other venue meetings. Special thanks to Katelin Our Event Coordinator she is professional, kind, fair and so hardworking. Every staff member, cook, server, bartender, valet worker, and front desk. Their smiles never dropped and every time I entered a room they made me feel so special. We had a unique vision with our “HalloWedding” and katelin made my dream come to life. I would choose the Mills House every time if I had to replan this. My guests were in awe and have not stopped talking about the food and drinks. The venue is magical even the Rain backup plan made me feel so comfortable that if anything happened I was taken care of. We can’t wait to return and plan on staying every couple years to relive such a special occasion. From the bottom of my heart Thank you xx The happiest Bride

Wonderful experience!

PERFECT SPOT for about 50-60 people! Most of our guests were from out of town so it was very easy and relaxed. The ceremony was rooftop overlooking 4 corners of law, and reception was on the second level with our own private elegant entrance. Plenty of choices for gorgeous formal portraits - our favorite was on a beautiful cobblestone street next to the park. I heard rave reviews of our food stations and Katelin Hancock served as our planner. Everything was truly spectacular!! Katelin was on top of everything and made me so comfortable so I could enjoy myself as MOB. I recommend Katelin and the Mills House highly!! Great job Katelin - many thanks to you and your team! Stay safe! ;-))

Amazing location and team!

Absolutely wonderful! There are not enough words to express how amazing Alicia and her team was to us during our wedding planning process. They were a dream to work with! Every moment of our wedding day was perfect! Highly, highly recommend booking the Mills House for any event. We had so many hurdles during our planning process with postponing and COVID restrictions and Alicia always made me feel taken care of and covered 1000%. She is AMAZING!! The location and convenience to everything made our whole wedding weekend seamless. All of our guests have not stopped raving about The Mills House! The food was fabulous! The team that worked during our wedding was so wonderful and friendly. We had a blast with them all night! I seriously can’t say enough good things about The Mills House venue and team. Alicia makes all dreams come true!

I would highly highly recommend this venue. Working with Alicia made the stress of planning so much easier. As a COVID bride who’s wedding was postponed two weeks before it was to happen, I know first hand of their flexibility, safety, and ability to cope with stressors that may get thrown their way. If you want a truly magical night that will have your guests enjoying every minute, know that this is a perfect venue option!

Gorgeous Venue

We held our reception at the Mills House and we are so happy that we did! Stunning venue, amazing food, friendly staff. I worked with Alicia for a year planning the reception and she was fantastic. She answered every email and phone call and never made me feel like I asked silly questions. I wouldn't change one thing about the reception. It was flawless.

We used the Barbadoes Room (bar area and courtyard) for our wedding. Melissa was wonderful to work with before/ during. The guest were in awe of its beauty. Small details were given attention. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

My wedding and reception were both at The Mills House and it was beautiful! Jenny Kress handled my wedding event and she did an incredible job going above and beyond! My ceremony was outside in the courtyard and my reception was on the 2nd floor in the Planter's Suite. The Mills House staff was friendly, polite and helpful during planning, and throughout my entire event. Not only was everyone great but their catering was in house and all the food was amazing! I highly recommend having your wedding at The Mills House!

Charleston is a second home to me and I have always dreamed of getting married there. The Mill's house was a dream come true! They were very professional, incredibly organized and a pleasure to work with. Melissa and Sara were fabulous to work with. The entire planning process was such a fun experience as they were very helpful and not pushy in any way. Our wedding day was perfect and they were very on top of everything! The whole reception ran flawlessly. My husband and I returned for our one year anniversary and to no surprise they were outstanding once again! I love the Mill's House and think it is the best wedding venue in Charleston!

Melissa Joseph and the event staff at the Mills House were wonderful! Melissa was extremely helpful in both the planning process and most importantly, the day of my daughter's wedding. Melissa was so attentive that had I not met the other bridal party at the hotel that weekend, I would have thought my daughter's wedding was Melissa's only responsibility. I am so happy that we chose to hold our event at the Mills House . . . .I would not change a thing!

Melissa and her staff did a wonderful job for our wedding reception and dinner. The courtyard looked beautiful for the ceremony. Reggie and his crew did an amazing job on the dinner service. The Mills House is even a great event location for a small wedding. They came through and reached out to me with their eagerness to accommodate a small wedding. The event coordinator is great to work with. The room looked amazing. Melissa was on top of things and pulled everything together in the end. The staff on the day of the wedding was awesome!! Food was great and they are willing to go above and beyond to make you truly feel special. I cannot say enough. If you want a beautiful wedding, but have only a few guests or even a destination wedding - I recommend this location!!!

We had our wedding reception at The Mills House hotel and we cannot say enough fantastic things about our event. Everything from the amazing staff, to the food and amenities. It was truly the perfect weekend and we could not have asked for anything more! If I had to say what really made our experience there a 5 out of 5, it was hands down the staff. Not only were they extremely friendly and welcoming, they were as professional and attentive as they come! We owe our fun & successful event to the people who made it happen! Melissa Joseph and her team at the Mills House were a dream to work with in every way--and the Barbados Room and courtyard area were absolutely beautiful for our reception. The Mills House staff is thorough, responsive, and very pleasant to work with. Melissa walked us through every aspect of our reception, from food to the timing of events (dances, cake cutting, etc), and coordinated with all of our vendors. We felt so taken care of, loved the quality of the food (as did our guests!), and used many of Melissa's great suggestions for vendors or fun personal touches throughout the evening. We found their prices to be reasonable for the area and very worthwhile for the results that you and your guests get to enjoy. The day-of coordination that the Mills House provides really gives peace of mind and is a tremendous value.

We just had our wedding reception at the Mills house on Oct. 4th. Such a beautiful and fabulous venue. Had it in the Barbados room and courtyard. Gabrielle is the BEST! She is so on top of everything and the food was outstanding. Shrimp and Grits, Mashed Potato bar, Prime Rib, Turkey and Salad. Plus they did mini milkshakes.

The mills house and all of the staff starting from first phone call was excellent to work with. I had quit a different experience from another review I read, infact everything from room to added fees we all included in my contract - so I felt like everything was talked about prior to confirming my contract. One thing that was extremely helpful was that the catering manger that I worked with was more like a planner so ended up not contracting a outside planner which was wonderful. My dream day was perfect and all the staff that I was in contact with was wonderful!

We had family travel in from 14 different states, so we were so delighted that the hotel was so perfect. It truly was more than what I ever expected. We love The Mills House and all of the staff that made our dream wedding come true. I thought at the beginning of planning that I would hire a wedding planner but our catering manage had all the answers to our many many question, she made it so easy and fun for us.

We did not end up choosing this venue but this was definitely our 2nd option. If we had a larger budget we would have considered it more. Melissa was so helpful. Such a beautiful venue!!!

Loved having my reception here! Jane and her team did a fantastic job! Beautiful Charleston setting and the food was outstanding. People are still telling us how much they enjoyed the food! :)

The Mills House - specifically Sara & Melissa - did a great job ensuring our reception was one our friends and family would never forget. They worked through the floor plan, timeline, & food with us to ensure it captured everything we wanted.

The only challenge we faced was our room block. We had quite a few guests coming in from out of town and they were not flexible on meeting the needs of all of our guests. If you're going to book ensure a room block nearby as they'll stop you at 25 rooms.

Our reception was in the Signers Ballroom, and we originally had Sara as our assigned coordinator. Sara was hard to get in touch with and communication could have been better. Later on, as Sara went on maternity leave, we got Melissa Joseph and Melissa and Gabby were great to work with. I had a ton of questions leading up to the big day, and Melissa was accommodating and tried to answer all of my questions. The only disappointment my husband and I had was that we nixed doing a large wedding cake because we were doing a dessert course and a Viennese display, both from the Mills House. The Viennese display was supposed to have 3 different types of tarts, as well as French pastries. I even got clarification on what type of pastries, so as to not have expectations that would not be met on my wedding day, but we went over everything and was told there would be macarons, and various pastries, so I felt fine with not having a traditional, large wedding cake. To my shock, because the dessert was set-up in a smaller, adjoining room, there were only 4 cake stands with the mini tarts and NONE of the French pastries we discussed. There was such little dessert on display that I was embarrassed! Yes, we discussed using some of the cake stands they had, but I did not expect it to be so poorly displayed and it did not meet the expectation for the price we paid at all.

On a positive note, our Banquet Captain, Reggie, and his team that night were fantastic. They made sure my husband and I had everything we needed and checked on us to make sure we were happy and doing well all night. They were truly fantastic and the Mills House is lucky to have them.

Other points, whoever made our signs for our event, misspelled my maiden name in a sign, embarrassing mistake to make. A welcome bag was stolen by another guest, but I was told putting them out on a table provided by them would be no issue. Items we had during our tasting were much smaller on our wedding day, than the tasting.

The more money I paid them, the harder it was to get anyone to return a phone call or answer any of my questions. It could take several days to get an email or phone call returned. They only contact you when they need you or they need something from you...like more money!
Also, watch out for double / duplicate charges on your credit cards. My mom got charged for the entire reception TWICE!!! They obviously corrected the error once it was brought to their attention, but come on...thats a BIG one!

The reception location is beautiful and in a great Charleston location.

The venue nickel and dimed us at every turn, going back on their word, making it difficult to book hotel rooms, etc. All of that would have been okay if the quality of service had lived up to the cost - it certainly did not.

The waitstaff was unhelpful, refusing to refill drinks if it required them to go back to the bar and telling guests we were out of certain wines when we were not.

Guests had money stolen at the reception and the bride had money stolen from her guest room. The waitstaff hinted that this was not an uncommon occurrence.

Beautiful venue, but not worth it.
