    Absolutely recommend!

Maria at the Meridian House could not have made our lives easier throughout the wedding planning process. We probably asked her a hundred questions via email (because we were not local), but she was patient, friendly, informative, and prompt. The Meridian House is gorgeous inside and out, so if it fits your aesthetic, hurry and reserve your date because it fills up quickly. We had our 70-person ceremony and cocktail hour in the gorgeous Linden Grove garden, which was a bit hot despite the canopy of the trees because it was mid-July, so something to consider. Unlike traditional/hotel reception spaces, the indoor space at the Meridian House is divided into five large rooms/halls, which is great if you intend to separate various events in different spaces. We had dinner and toasts in the Living Room, which was perfect because it is spacious and there is a grand piano on which our DJ lightly played background music; we danced in the Loggia, which is a beautiful circular space accessible from all rooms, and we had the bar, cake, and photobooth in the picturesque library. The guests seemed to have fun going from room to room and seeing what the next space held, though some of the older guests just stayed seated in the Living Room to chat. Because the venue is so ornate and classy, it does not require a ton of florals or decor, unless of course that’s what you want. They also conveniently have a parking lot with complimentary self-parking for guests, less than a minute walk from the building, which was a welcome relief from having to search for street parking in DC. Highly recommend getting married here because every corner is stunning–it will wow your guests and look so pretty in the photos–and the staff is exceptional!

    AMAZING Wedding Venue!

Meridian House is THE dream wedding venue!! There honestly aren’t enough words to capture the timeless elegance, decor, and functionality of the space. It was PERFECT for our wedding of 100 guests, and the team (including Julie,Olivia, and Maria) were beyond helpful! As a history and book lover, the library, tapestries, art, chandeliers, and overall splendor of the home surpassed my wildest dreams, requiring little to no additions. We have continued to receive compliments from guests commenting on the beauty of property, and it will forever be the perfect backdrop to the most breathtaking day. Highly recommend Meridian House for any event in DC!

    Very Grateful

Maria is one of those truly special people who you never forget. Throughout our wedding postponement, she was always there for us, including sending our pandemic pup a care package and ensuring the flowers in the Meridian garden looked perfect when our big day finally came. She is a wonderful person and SO good at what she does. The venue itself is pure magic. I still cannot believe that that enchantingly beautiful event was MY wedding. We are endlessly grateful!

Most beautiful venue and overall amazing experience

We have nothing but great things to say about Meridian House. We had our wedding here in August 2021 and loved the venue for its beauty, charm, outdoor areas, and diversity of spaces. Our guests had nothing but great things to say about the space and the experience. In the many months leading up to our wedding, Julie from Meridian House was extremely helpful and flexible with us, answering our (many!) questions promptly and working with us to design the guest experience we envisioned for our ~100 guests. Going with Meridian House was one of the best wedding related decisions we made - can't recommend it highly enough!

Phenomenal Venue and the Best Coordinator!

Meridian House was breathtakingly beautiful and Maria was the absolute best to work with. She went above and beyond to make sure our day ran as smoothly as possible, and was always on top of things - from recommending the best vendors to being there with us every step of the way. With all the additional considerations that Covid-19 brought on, we can't stress enough how much of a relief it was to know that Maria would always be on our side, by our side. That's not even getting into how phenomenal Meridian House itself was - the architecture is beautiful, the grove is romantic, and there's history everywhere. Would absolutely recommend Maria and Meridian House to everyone we know!

    Meridian is Amazing

We visited over a dozen venues in the DC area before finding Meridian. I remember once we found it, we had to try and keep our expectations in check because it seemed perfect for us. When we arrived for a tour, we realized with excitement that there was no big catch and it actually was perfect for us! The Meridian team, led by Maria, was incredibly helpful and patient with us as we planned the details. While our wedding itself was delayed due to the pandemic, we highly recommend Meridian to any couples seeking a wedding venue that is beautiful (inside and outside), reasonably priced, and centrally located!

    The dream venue

We had to postpone our wedding three times and at this point have toured every venue in the DC area. Meridian House is by FAR the best venue! It is magical by itself, before you introduce one flower or candle, yet can also be transformed for whatever vision you may have for your big day!

The architecture, history, location, parking, indoor and outdoor area (omg the Loggia and the Linden Grove!!!!) is just perfect. But the thing that make it the best venue is Maria Canellis! She was so incredibly professional, prompt and creative in helping us plan a covid wedding! Our vendors needed an extra three days for set up so she was managing a ton of vendors but did it with such grace.

Maria was always the first to give us the latest government guidelines and best practices for our wedding and super empathetic towards us as we have to pivot so many times.

I think she could plan a country take-over by now with her skills! Maria is such a leader and you are in the best of hands if you have any event here!
Thank you Meridian House for our dream wedding!!!!

    Most beautiful venue in DC!!

We knew that Meridian House was "the one" as soon as we walked through the front doors. We were absolutely blown away by how beautiful the entire house was, and so surprised that this hidden gem is in downtown DC and not in the French countryside! The layout was exactly what we wanted, separate rooms so our guests had a space to eat dinner, mingle, dance, etc. Luckily, we were able to do our "first look" photos outside with our photographer and videographer, and the photos in the side garden and the linden grove were stunning. Another great feature of Meridian House was the bridal suite room and private bathroom on the main level; it was great to have those available to us. Our ceremony was off-site, but the size of our wedding (97) was perfect for the reception (cocktail hour, dinner, dancing). Luckily, we were all able to fit in the Drawing Room for dinner. We also had bistro lights strung up outside in the linden grove (plus heaters), so the ambiance outside was stunning for those who were brave enough to go out in the cold! Our guests kept raving about Meridian House; everyone kept telling us what a perfect venue it was! We loved everything about it, and Maria and her team at Meridian House made our wedding better than we could've ever imagined!

The most stunning and romantic venue

When mu (now) husband and I were looking at venues, Meridian House blew us away and we knew we had to get married there. The venue is so beautiful, romantic, and quiet despite being in the middle of a busy city. We used the garden for our ceremony, the linden grove for cocktail hour, had our reception inside, and a sparkler exit out front. Our guests were also able to sit down and enjoy the linden grove during the reception. Getting to use so many different spaces was so unique. Our guests were raving about the venue, many saying it was the most beautiful venue they had ever seen. We worked with Maria as our coordinator throughout the planning process, and Olivia the day of. Maria was so kind, helpful, and responsive through the whole process. Olivia was great and made sure that everything was running smoothly on Meridian's end the day of the wedding. I could not think of a more perfect venue, and I am so happy we got to get married at Meridian House.

Not better venue in Washington, DC

Your guests will be delighted with the venue. Mention it to any other vendor in the industry and they gasp and say "My favorite venue!" It makes your day a fairytale.

Meridian House is an absolutely stunning venue. Our guests kept commenting on how impressed they were with the venue: from the historic building itself, our cocktail hour in the Linden Grove, and most importantly to our wedding in the garden. Meridian House was a perfect backdrop for our photos and to showcase to out of towners a beautiful historic DC building. However, what sets this venue a part is their amazing staff. Maria is an absolute joy to work with. She helped ensure that we had an absolutely perfect wedding, reception, and dance party. She accommodated our request to get married in a circle in the garden, she recommended outstanding vendors, and she served as a sounding board for ideas and any questions we had.

Meridian House is by far one of the most beautiful venues in Washington, D.C. From the Linden tree grove to the beautiful rooms indoors it is the perfect location for a small intimate wedding. The event staff at Meridian House were prompt in answering emails and were so helpful with vendor walk throughs and on the night of the wedding. They did a fantastic job!

Don't look any further: Meridian House is an absolutely beautiful venue with a manicured lawn, blooming flowers, an area under a Linden Grove, and the interior of the house is just stunning, elegant, formal. and yet the venue lends itself to celebrate a garden ceremony that is intimate, romantic, enchanting. Every one of our guests commented on the beauty of Meridian House. The house is a treasure. And Meridian's Event Manager, Maria Canellis, is another treasure. She is a gem, helpful, willing to share all the information about wedding vendors that you might need, with a wonderful disposition, responsive and delightful. I cannot say enough good things about Meridian House and Maria Canellis except to say that we were very fortunate to have celebrated our daughter's wedding at Meridian House.

Meridian House is a dream come true; the first time I saw it as a possible wedding venue, I knew my husband and I needed to get married there. (Come on: it feels like you've been transported to Paris in the middle of DC--what's not to like?!?!) We worked with a couple different people over the course of about 17 months, and both event coordinators were incredibly helpful, flexible, and a pleasure to work with. My husband and I had both our ceremony and reception at Meridian House, and we felt very lucky to find such an amazing location in the heart of the city for the price we did considering some of the other venues and other logistics (e.g., transportation, lodging, etc.) we looked at. It was a perfect location for not only us, but for our guests, who were mostly out of town, and therefore had access to DC throughout the weekend during their stay. I would highly recommend Meridian House to anyone considering it as a venue.

As a native Washingtonian, The Meridian House has always been one of my favorite places, a hidden gem in DC! When planning my wedding, I wanted to have an old world/eurpoean ambiance and couldn't have picked a better place. My wedding guest list was too big to have the wedding at the Meridian House, but it turned out to be the PERFECT spot for our rehearsal dinner. Marie was so generous and kind to help make my dream come true and allowed us to do a RD on Friday even though they did have another event on Saturday. She was gracious to work with us on pricing as well since our guest list was on the smaller end.
Luckily it was a gorgeous night so we were able to use the outside courtyard during cocktail hour. Went inside for dinner and the buffet was set up in the library. Then we had a welcome drinks, the layout is perfect where guests could arrive for that while we finished dinner and then joined them in the logia and courtyard. Thank you Marie and all those at the Meridian House for making the Friday night a great start to the wedding weekend!

My husband and I had both our ceremony and reception at the Meridian House in October. The venue is absolutely gorgeous and romantic. We had our ceremony in the garden, the cocktail hour in the tree grove and then dinner and dancing inside. We had 150 guests and we fit perfectly for dinner in the library and drawing rooms. Alison Grace was our coordinator and she was so helpful and responsive during our coorespondence. She was also there on the day of to make sure everything was going smoothly. All of our guests kept commenting on how beautiful the space was, and our pictures look amazing! We would definitely recommend this for a venue for anyone looking to get married in DC!

Meridian House was an exceptional venue. The beauty of the house and the grounds made it so very little needed to be added in terms of decor--it's wonderful on its own. We had an outdoor ceremony in the garden, a cocktail hour in the Linden Grove, and dinner and dancing inside the house. Maria was absolutely terrific to work with--she made sure all the vendors had the info they needed and helped everything to flow perfectly the day of the event. She was also very helpful and responsive with all of my questions during the planning process. This place is magical!

We couldn't have had such a beautiful and gorgeous wedding were it not for the Meridian House. Maria and everyone else on staff was very helpful throughout the entire process, especially during the day-of preparations. The five different rooms made it easy to separate the different parts of the wedding while having everything flow smoothly. We only wish the night could have gone on longer!

When planning our wedding, we knew that we did not want a typical "big box" wedding in a hotel. The Meridian House is an absolutely gorgeous location for your event. With no rain plan, I wanted a location where the inside was just as beautiful as the outside. We had SO many compliments about our venue and were told that our wedding was "the most elegant wedding" that many people had ever attended.

Not only is the venue itself an unforgettable setting, but Maria is absolutely amazing to work with. She is extremely helpful and sweet and I cannot imagine having worked with anyone else. There was construction on the entrance and we were unable to enter through the front door AND there was a massive storm on our wedding day just as the ceremony was about to begin. Those 2 things would create tears for any bride, but I was calm knowing that I was in good hands with Maria and that our venue was so gorgeous, it would make no difference in the world to any of our guests.

If you chose the Meridian, you will have beautiful pictures and an extremely memorable location for your big day.

We looked at wedding venues all over Virginia, Maryland and DC and the Meridian House was by far the most stunning. It took our breath away when we first saw it and it did not dissapoint the day of the wedding. Maria Canellis was our point of contact at the venue and she was a pleasure to work with and provided a wealth of wedding information. She even helped us with the planning process at times by providing tips and knowledge even though that wasn't really her role. This venue will surely exceed your expectations.

Meridian House is the most beautiful venue in DC (trust me, I looked at almost all of them!). It has beautiful, well-tended gardens, a breath-taking linden tree grove, and a elegant interior. One of my guests described the feel as "a midsummer's night garden" and many of the guests said it was the best venue they had ever seen.

My wedding day was hot (in the high 80s), but the gardens where we held our ceremony were shaded by our 5pm ceremony time, and our guests had no complaints. It definitely got a bit warm in the dance room as the night went on, but people were able to cool off in the Linden Grove with the tables Meridian House provided for free, and people were generally comfortable and happy the whole night, in spite of the heat.

The venue is a bit pricey by DC standards, but includes tables and chairs for both the dinner and ceremony for up to 150 guests, which was a nice addition. The approved vendor list is extensive for caterers, so you can really put your own touches on the wedding, which is fun. The site can take as much or as little decor as you want because it is already so naturally beautiful, so while you might pay the money upfront, but save it in the long run. The cost also includes rehearsal and walk-through time, so long as the house is available, which is helpful. Additionally, the house can fit up to 200 (though it makes it a tighter squeeze), which makes it one of the larger options for historic home weddings in DC.

Maria is not only professional and responsive, but a super sweet and helpful venue coordinator. She sees weddings every weekend, so she is able and willing to give useful advice about set ups and vendors. Meridian House does have some limited rules, such as ending events by 11pm or limited tent vendors (don't worry, you can drink red wine anywhere in thehouse and have candles!), but Maria is more than willing to work to accommodate unique ideas - for example, she helped us coordinate having a food truck, DC Slices, come as a surprise end to the party. She made sure everything ran smoothly, and was definitely an asset for our wedding planning.

I used the Meridian House for both my wedding ceremony and reception. It is, in my opinion, the most beautiful event venue in DC. Maria is a pleasure to work with - friendly, professional, responsive, and reasonable. I wish I could have my wedding at the Meridian House all over again!! I will just have to find another excuse to have an event there in the future.

Meridian House is a beautiful location for a wedding. Maria Canellis, the Director of Events is great to work with and very responsive. The beauty of the House and the lawn/gardens saves some money on decorating and tables and chairs are included in the rental that saves some additional costs. Maria was with us during the duration of the wedding which helped to alleviate anxiety.

My husband and I fell in love with the Meridian House the first moment we walked in. The house looks like an old European mansion and the gardens are beautiful. All of the guests could not stop commenting on how beautiful the house was and how perfect it was! I have nothing but praise for my wedding at Meridian. Our family and friends to this day talk that this was the best wedding that they have ever been to. We totally lucked out with weather and really felt like we were entertaining people at our own home.

From the beginning, the staff at Meridian were a joy to work with on the planing. The on-site coordinator walked me through the steps to make sure that I got everything done.

It was very comforting to enjoy the ceremony, knowing that everything would be taken care of. Looking back at the pictures and the memories, I will always be grateful that we had our wedding reception there.

One final comment, I wanted to mention that the morning after the wedding we woke up to a horrible rain storm. In all of the chaos of the party the night before, we failed to make sure that our oriental rug - left outside from the afternoon cocktail reception - was pulled in. The following day, en route to our honeymoon, I was able to find out that they had in fact put it away and I could pick it up later. It was like for everything, they were one step ahead.

My wedding at Meridian House was absolutely beautiful! I would highly recommend this venue to anyone who is looking for a wonderful historic property in the heart of Washington DC. The house and gardens were gorgeous.

As far as the staff goes, April and her team were great. I had the chance to meet with her a few times and she was always happy to help no matter how stupid my questions were! In response to the brides who commented that it took her a long time to respond, I would point out that April is literally the only person in her “department” although she hires professionals to occasionally work events that she can’t attend. Although it sometimes took a day or so for her to respond to non-urgent phone calls and emails, I found that perfectly reasonable for one of the busiest venues in DC. Any emergency, last-minute issues were taken care of immediately and professionally.

Overall, Meridian House was the perfect place to hold my wedding, and I would highly recommend it to everyone!

I need to preface this review by saying that I married at the Meridian House on probably the most beautiful spring day that someone could ask for. I'm sure my review would vary slightly had the weather not been as beautiful and we had to have the ceremony and the entire reception indoors.

As it was, the Meridian House was a phenomenal location for both our ceremony and reception. I still have a hard time believing that it was my wedding because the photos from the day are completely breathtaking and gorgeous. The grounds of the gardens and the linden grove are immaculately manicured and truly of a level of beauty that few places could ever relate to. Before the ceremony, we had our photographers take our pictures and our family portraits in the garden. We were initally planning for our wedding ceremony to take place in the garden but since the weather had been rainy leading up to the day (we were all thinking it would be rained out the day of) my wedding planner decided to move our ceremony to the linden grove. The linden grove turned out to be a fantastic location for the ceremony, completely unique. Even if it had been rained out, we would have had a really special plan C (plan A - garden, plan B- linden grove) by having the ceremony in the loggia where we had to practice for our rehearsal the evening prior.

The day and evening were perfect at the Meridian House although we had the most amazing weather (no rain and perfect outdoor temperature) to enjoy the linden grove after the ceremony for the cocktail hour and reception. You could dance up a sweat in the dance hall and then go outside underneath the paper lanterns strung on the linden trees and enjoy the cool spring evening. It was perfection. And my parents had a lot of people coming up to them saying they'd never been to a more perfect venue for a wedding. (Again, we were somehow so fortunate as to have had the most desirable weather possible.) The staff of the Meridian House, particularly Maria, was very easy to work with. And the chairs and tables that were provided for our reception were all wonderful.

The only reason I didn't give the Meridian House a perfect score for quality of service was because of two things I happened to notice. First, you really need to bring in a lighting team to help with lighting the reception since the lighting they offer isn't quite the best. And second, during the reception, the drawing room and library became hot very quickly with all of the people eating in them since the Meridian House does not have a very good air conditioning system. Luckily the were able to open the windows and have the cool, perfectly temperate breeze from outside come into the house and cool off the guests in the library. I would not recommend marrying at the Meridian House in the summer since this could be a serious issue with our hot, humid DC summers.

All in all though, I couldn't have asked for a better location for my wedding day and we somehow ended up with the best case scenario with the weather. It was perfect. My husband and I have a favorite moment after we'd had our meal during the reception when we went out into the garden to walk around the grounds by ourselves (no photographers, just us). It was a special quiet time away from the noisy chatter of the reception and I will always remember those magical moments amongst the spring green garden and in particular, the lavendar wisteria draping the gates of one sitting area in the garden. I felt like I was in a fairytale, the garden was so perfect in beauty. If you are getting married on a spring or fall day (and don't have to deal with rain), there is no better venue in the D.C. area than the Meridian House.

Meridian House is a beautiful wedding reception venue. The layout of the venue allows guests to move through the house and experience all it has to offer. Cocktail hour in the linden grove is lovely, dinner in the library and dining room beautiful, and dancing in the ball room makes for a fun evening.

Tables and chairs are provided, and the house is so beautiful that additional decor can be minimal.

Maria was easy to work with, and very responsive to all our questions leading up to the event.

Meridian House is a stunning venue straight out of an architecture magazine. We fell in love with it immediately, but what we weren’t prepared for is how much our guests would gush over it too -- the word “exquisite” was used more than once! It was such an ideal location to showcase the history of DC to our many out-of-town guests at a location right near the center of the city.

The house is immaculately maintained both inside and out, with museum-esque touches that transport you back to 1800s France. We needed very few pieces of extra decor because Meridian House is so well-appointed. It’s a fairly compact venue, but the various rooms allowed guests to mingle and explore and enjoy.

And outside, the beauty and coolness of the Linden Grove is unparalleled. Some guests came inside only for dinner! Of course, it helped immensely that we had an ideal August day, with no humidity or negative weather to contend with.

Just be aware that your event will be hustled out by 10:55pm, with no possibility of extending it, owing to some very strict rules from the venue and neighborhood association.

Overall, our event was picture-perfect and we’ve received so many compliments on the stunning venue.

Maria and her team did a great job facilitating our event and working with all our vendors. The space at Meridian is also beautiful. We had our ceremony in the garden, cocktail hour in the linden grove, and the reception inside. The price is a little high, but it does include all the tables and chairs, which isn't true at all the comparable sites.

Meridian House was a spectacular venue. People were commenting on the breathtaking scenery both inside and outside the house all night! The house is decorated so beautifully that it required few additional decorations.

The Linden Grove was my favorite part from the time we first went to look at Meridian. Our wedding day was unbelievably hot (far, far, far exceeding the regular average temperature- on our wedding day in early June, the heat index was something like 107 degrees!). We had planned our dinner and seating to be outside in the grove, and I was *VERY* worried about the heat. I called the caterer at the last minute and asked if we should move everything inside!

The linden trees are amazing! It was still a little hot outside, but under the trees, it wasn't nearly so hot. We had the florist hang LED votives in the trees, and the effect was stunning! I could not have asked for better scenery.

April and her assistants are AMAZING!!!!!!! I have never worked with such a responsive vendor. She really went above and beyond to answer all of my questions. The only thing that would have been helpful would have been a FAQ document when we booked the site. As it is a historic site, I had many questions about Meridian House and the rules. A FAQ would have saved many e-mails back and forth. :-)

The Meridian House is the perfect wedding venue in DC - and Maria and Jessica are fantastic! After attending several black tie events in DC, my husband and I thought this would be the perfect place for the reception. We had a few walk-throughs with Maria to figure out the best use of the space and talk through the flow of the evening. It's perfectly suited to cocktails outside, dinner and dancing inside, and when the weather is nice (like spring and fall) the doors are open and the light sparkles just right. Beautiful! It's not the best space for a huge wedding (under 150 max, we had 120 and it was perfect) Unfortunately the weather was really windy on our wedding day but that didn't deter guests from being outside for at least some of the time - we changed a few logistics last minute because of that (like moving the toasts inside) but none of it caused an issue. Maria and Jessica were responsive, helpful and professional, making sure they understood our vision from day one. What's great is that the house needs very little decor - we just did flowers on the tables and there was no need for anything else. The red carpet at the entrance is elegant, garden already has flowers, and with some candles and low lighting it looks very romantic without a lot of effort (or money!). While it isn't the cheapest space in DC, the rental costs includes all tables and chairs so that was a huge money saver (no need to rent additional ones). They recommended several vendors to us including Main Event Catering (who they work with often) and you could tell they had a good working relationship. Everything flowed and was just perfect - the staff all evening was so helpful. My favorite part is that there is a piano there that you can use if you want - my dad is a pianist and he played our first dance which was extra special. Thank you for such an amazing wedding!!

This venue is stunning. You will save on flowers and decor because the venue itself is so beautiful. Maria, the venue coordinator, is incredibly responsive, knowledgeable and helpful. The space was perfect for hosting both our ceremony and reception. It's convenient to hotels so guests don't have to travel far. We were worried about splitting guests up into two adjoined rooms for dinner because we thought people in the smaller room might feel excluded, but it didn't feel that way at all. We sat near the door that joined the rooms and it was fine.

I could not have asked for a better venue for my Memorial Day weekend wedding! Maria was so helpful and attentive, and really helped to make our day special. We had our ceremony out in the Linden Grove. It was a picturesque setting. The guests sat beneath the trees, which helped to keep them cool on a warm May day! We had about 140 people, and everyone fit comfortably in the 2 connecting rooms for the reception. We had dancing in the large room across the hall, which I was a little worried about at first, but it actually worked out wonderfully! The guests had the freedom to come dance, sit at their tables to chat, or take a stroll outside, as it was a georgeous evening! The venue is expensive, but if you are looking for a grand location for your ceremony and reception, it is well worth it!

Meridian House is so beautiful. The grounds are really unexpected and the website photos absolutely don't do it justice. I'm getting married there next May. Note that it books up way ahead of time! The venue fee is pretty high but it becomes more reasonable of you have both the ceremony and reception there, which is so convenient anyway. Maria is also very helpful and responsive and all of the other vendors I've spoken to have very positive things to say about it and say they love working there. Will update after the wedding!

I fell in love with this place via pictures and after seeing it in person I knew it was a must for my wedding. There's no place like it in the city. The price tag is daunting but once you compare what is included (chairs, tables, parking, etc) with the price tag of other places it is certainly more attainable. Most other places with an outdoor option required a tent which raised the price considerably. It was my absolute favorite part of the wedding so I was happy to make the rest of our budget smaller to get married in this beautiful location.

I would like to say that my ratings given on the star system do not accurately reflect how pleased I was with our wedding venue! I will begin by explaining each of the factors rated:

The venue itself is absolutely beautiful! If you are looking to get married in DC, I HIGHLY recommend previewing this space. The quality of service was excellent, on the day of the event as well as the rehearsal the night before and any tours prior to the event. The events manager made the process very easy. As for responsiveness, it did sometimes take up to 2 days to receive an email response, but usually we were bouncing back issues that did not require immediate attention.

The rental rate for the Meridian House is a little expensive. We were married "off season" and received a $2,000 discount from the regular rate. This is definitely a place for a budget of $30,000 or more. To us, it was worth every penny!

Overall our wedding at Meridian was great and we are very happy we chose this venue. The house and grounds are gorgeous, in a great location, and provides a unique setting. We really didn't want the large-boxy-banquet hall type of wedding, which is definitely not Meridian. It is pricey, although less than other similar places because you don't have to rent a tent or tables/chairs. They also do a very good job mantaining both the house and the grounds.

However, I can't give it a really high rating due to the inadequacy of the staff that works there. The event planner was very difficult to work with from day one - unresponsive, always annoyed at any question I had, and generally not helpful. She also tried to make me purchase a completely unnecessary insurance policy that was not in the contract, and I had to talk to the CFO to get it cleared up. A different staff person was actually at Meridian the day of the wedding, even though the event planner told us she would be there, and that person was equally bad - she gave random people (not guests) tours of the Meridian during set-up and right before the ceremony while we were trying to take pictures!! She also went grocery shopping in the middle of the day, which is ridiculous. Luckily I had a few friends there overseeing everything and they were the ones taking charge. So, while I highly recommend Meridian due to its fabulous setting, I strongly recommend you have either a wedding planner or friend there for the setup to make sure there aren't any problems.

We paid 10,500 to use the facility. We chose it because of the outdoor space. Unfortunately, it rained throughout our entire wedding day. For the money we spent on this beautiful venue, we would have expected the A/C to be up to par. Needless to say, it was not. It was so hot that evening, two of our guests went to the hospital because of the heat. Meridian House said that the historic house was not equipped with an A/C unit to keep the entire house cool. It was very disappointing.
April, our event coordinator is quite possibly the most useless human-being on earth. She is obnoxiously rude and doesn't take the time to answer your questions. If she does, she is incredibly rude. If you decide to go with Meridian House, although I think there are many more locations in DC that are just as beautiful for half of the price, you should definitely ask for a different event coordinator.

My husband and I got married at Meridian House in the summer. It's a unique and lovely venue, but we had a lot of major problems with the staff there. Unless you obtain hard evidence that they have taken specific steps to fix those problems, I would be very wary of having your wedding there. Ultimately, our wedding was beautiful--but the headaches posed by Meridian greatly added to the stress.

The first fiasco was when they billed our credit card a duplicate charge (in the thousands of dollars) a few months before the wedding. They fixed it when we called them--but then for some reason they billed us again--a second wrong charge, which we had to dispute with the credit card company in order to keep from floating thousands of extra dollars. They were apologetic, so we were nice about it. No harm done.

But then, a week before the wedding, the event manager reneged on her verbal permission for me to put on my dress in the White-Meyer House next door, also owned by Meridian. You cannot imagine my frustration and bewilderment at this--especially after the aforementioned billing mistake, which we had graciously not made a big deal of. The White-Meyer House was empty, so there was no reason not to let me get dressed there instead of the mirror-less conference room I ultimately had to use. The event manager claimed she had no recollection of our discussion. It was really amazing that she made no effort whatsoever to be gracious or helpful. To this day, I am baffled at this.

The wedding was in the afternoon. That morning, my groom and I stopped by just to look around and make sure everything looked OK. Am I glad we did. We noticed that although the gravel under the linden grove had been raked, lying in it were discarded tails from cocktail shrimp, a lemon peel, a small piece of broken glass, and even cigarette butts. There were bare spots in the gravel, where the ground showed through (which my husband covered up by actually picking up handfuls of gravel from less conspicuous areas).

The event manager had also said she would be available on site the day of the wedding. That morning, my husband called and left her a message; it was never returned. On the way to the ceremony that afternoon, he called again--twice. No reply. On our wedding day. After paying thousands of dollars. After they had already screwed up twice. Inexcusable. In addition, he had to put on his tux in a vacant office, and a cleaning man almost locked him in there!

On top of all this, no one told us that the house has an elevator hidden away near the kitchen (which we were told about later by a vendor). My mother has severe arthritis and uses a cane, and she had to be helped slowly up the lengthy staircase. The front-desk guard either didn't know about the elevator--which would be Meridian's fault--or, worse, knew but chose to just sit there and watch the disabled old lady struggle. But why didn't Meridian tell us about the elevator? Elderly people are not exactly rare at weddings, after all.

Even the "preferred" caterer we used on Meridian's recommendation (Windows Catering) showed up 45 minutes late, making the ceremony start late. Just unbelievable.

Meridian House is a beautiful place, and it has a great history behind it. We would so very much like to be able to recommend it. But unfortuanately, it has a very inept and uncaring staff running it. If you consider this venue, definitely ask a lot of questions, get everything in writing, and double-check everything.
