Megan was a delight to work with as my wedding photographer. It rained the day of, but she came prepared with clear umbrellas and a positive attitude. She got all our best angles despite the gray, drizzly day. She took a nice variety of pictures of the guests, decor, and special moments. She's an excellent photographer and editor, she's patient, and she's kind. What more could you ask for?! Thank you for capturing our wedding day! -

We found Megan through a Google search, and I was immediately impressed by her detailed writing about shooting at the DC War Memorial and surrounding memorials and her thoughtful blog — she came across as both down-to-earth and professional. Our phone chat and email communications furthered my confidence in choosing Megan as our photographer!
We had a small, intimate wedding at the DC War Memorial, and she did an incredible job capturing it (plus some more at the Tidal Basin). She worked through my list of must-have shots and also helped us get some beautiful, spontaneous photos I didn’t even know I wanted — especially of our kids and family moments together.
She was wonderful with the kids (and the adults, too!), patient and kind, and made everyone feel comfortable in front of the camera. She handled family requests gracefully and checked in with me throughout. I especially appreciated her expertise when I was unsure exactly what I wanted, and she proposed options with clear pros/cons to help me think through it and decide confidently on the spot.
Her edits were timely and beautiful, and she was flexible and went above and beyond to my requests after receiving the pictures. Overall, the experience felt like such an incredible value — professional, easy, and so well-suited for our two-hour celebration. I’m grateful to her for how everything turned out and would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a talented, kind, and reliable photographer.

We are so happy we chose Megan for both our engagement and wedding photography! She was the first vendor we hired for our wedding. I first found her through her blog posts, which were so helpful in planning our Old Town Alexandria engagement session. We brought along our very senior dog, and Megan was wonderful with him. She was great at working with his senior quirks.
For our wedding at the Spy Museum, Megan captured incredible photos both outside on the rooftop and inside the glass enclosure. She blended in so seamlessly that it felt like she was just another guest at our wedding. We never felt stiff or overly posed. She made us so comfortable that we hardly noticed the camera, and the result was bright, joyful, candid photos.
Megan is everything you’d want in a wedding photographer – we can’t recommend her enough! -

My wife and I worked with Megan when we eloped at the national cathedral and could not recommend her more! I stumbled across Megan when searching for a queer friendly photographer in the DMV and fell in love with her style. As neither of us had worked with a professional photographer before we had no idea what we were doing but Megan was so helpful and kind throughout the entire process.
Not only did Megan suggest and help us choose a perfect venue, shee walked us through what permits we would need and even checked the weather ahead of time to work with us on making a decision if we needed to reschedule. When we decided to stick with our original date despite the potential for rain, Megan worked with us on the day of as the forecast shifted and even changed her schedule to arrive early so we would have plenty of time to shoot in case it started raining (and she even brought us hand warmers for the cold and adorable umbrellas in case we did have to shoot in the rain!).
She was so wonderful to work with and captured the perfect mix of candids, as well as helping to guide us in posed shots. The sneak peek gallery we received a week after our elopement was so incredibly lovely, and it was amazing to have a handful of photos back so soon while she worked on the rest of the gallery! The entire time she was so kind, helpful, and personable, and we simply cannot recommend her services enough if you have an elopement, wedding, engagement, or any other moment you want captured by someone who is truly so incredibly talented, caring, and thoughtful with their work! -

Best Part of Our Wedding
Many things did not go according to plan on our wedding day (11/3/2023) but Megan Rei Photography was not one of them. She was a dream to work with for our engagement and wedding photos. I was looking for a photographer who could really capture the essence of our day, from start to finish, and Megan went above and beyond. From posed to candids, she exceeded every expectation. I would hire her again in a heartbeat! -

Professional and kind photographer who captures all those special little moments!
Megan is an amazing photographer and we are so glad we found and booked her! She made the process so easy, and was an excellent communicator. As soon as we booked her she sent over other recommended wedding vendors lists as well as tips and Pinterest boards of what to wear to our engagement shoot. Megan always answered any email question quickly and spent time before our wedding on the phone with us to go through some questions and helped plan our whole timeline of the day. Megan was quick in delivering photos, we got the sneak peaks in one week and the full gallery in 6 weeks. The pictures themselves came out stunning. She doesn’t over edit her photos, she keeps them bright and true to life which is one of the main reasons we went with her. She made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera so she was able to capture all of the special little moments between us and we will treasure them forever. -

One of our best wedding decisions
I cannot recommend Megan enough. In fact, I already recommended her to one of my very best friends, who also hired her for her wedding.
Photography was one of our very top priorities, so we interviewed five photographers. All of them were really very good but it was clear that Megan was the right choice for us. We wanted someone whose style was very natural, genuine, fun and good at candids. The conventional advice of “choose a photographer you get along with, because you spend your whole wedding day with them” is so, so right. We loved her from our first call and that instinct was so correct.
We had a couple timeline hiccups despite the hours and hours I spent making the timeline and communicating it to everyone. But, Megan had helped us build extra time into the timeline, so everything worked out perfectly. We got even more photos than promised and we got them earlier than promised. Also, I had an uncle filming our first dance and she worked around it and gave us beautiful photos.
Really, I cannot say enough good things about Megan. If her photography style resonates with you—you won’t regret hiring her. We will be cherishing the hundreds of beautiful perfect photos she gave us for the rest of our lives. -

So thankful for Megan on our special day!
Megan is an incredibly talented, kind, thoughtful, and professional photographer - everything we looked for in a photographer and even more. Megan has photographed not only our wedding, but also our surprise engagement proposal and legal wedding ceremony. After each event, my partner and I are stunned looking at how beautiful her photos are, how so many different moments are captured, and how creative Megan is in crafting shots. For our wedding in particular, Megan was super helpful from the planning stage all the way to the end of the night. We were quite familiar with our venue location (Old Town Alexandria, VA), but Megan has such an impressive understanding of the area that she led us to so many beautiful photo locations that we wouldn’t have thought of. During the wedding, she caught every important moment as well as candids without us even knowing she was there! Even when we asked Megan to take a lot of group family photos at the very end of the night, she stayed with us to make sure we got everything. She is so kind and easy to work with, extremely responsive, and also helped de-stress us during the wedding night when things were falling a little behind schedule. Our family and friends cannot stop raving about how beautiful all the pictures are. We feel grateful to have been able to work with Megan and highly recommend working with her to anyone looking for a photographer! -

Megan did our engagement photos and they are simply stunning! We choose her due to her experience shooting with dogs, as we really wanted our dog to be a big part of our shoot. She was super communicative before the shoot (helped SO MUCH when trying to figure out a location and an outfit), was great during the shoot directing us and making us feel comfortable, and got our photos to us timely. I'm absolutely in love with the photos, and cannot recommend Megan enough! -

Megan was wonderful to work with and the photos of our tiny wedding turned out beautifully. Megan was great about guiding us through the planning process, helping us set up a timeline for photographs in different locations, providing recommendations on shots, and guiding us on how to obtain permits to shoot on the National Mall and Tidal Basin. She captured all the shots we were hoping for and more. The end result is exactly what we were hoping for and we will cherish the photos for many years to come. Megan took AMAZING engagement photos of us in DC during cherry blossom season. She was so flexible with us when trying to get our pictures during peak bloom. Fabulous Photographer
We absolutely loved working with Megan! She took the best engagement photos at a location several hours away. She even went as far as to research and suggest a location that had a fabulous sunset and mountain view! The photos were amazing! Throughout the whole process she was super communicative and easy to reach in case of questions. She had us identify anything special we wanted photographed ahead of time so she could take care of those shots for us while we were distracted by the day. On the day of she was on time and ready to roll! She immediately jumped in easily figuring out what was important to us. When viewing the photos when we got them back, there were so many that had not occurred to me that I now think are so precious. Overall, she was amazing and we are lucky to have worked with her! -

Megan was more than I could have wished for as a photographer for my wedding. Due to the pandemic, and military deployments, we had to reschedule our wedding 4 times! Every time she was understanding and compassionate, and helped to reschedule a new date. On our wedding day, she was in time (actually early!), and she was so kind. She knew how to pose us, and which locations to use for the most perfect photos. During the ceremony and reception, she was everywhere, but not in the way. The short version of this review is that you should definitely, 100% hire Megan to photograph your wedding! All of our photographs are beautiful and it was an absolute pleasure to work with Megan! Every interaction we had with Megan over the 2+ years we planned our wedding reiterated that we made the right choice when choosing our photographer. I panic hired Megan after I thought every vendor was already taken pre-covid. She had done 2 of my friends weddings so I knew she did a good job. However, she actually does AMAZING work! She’s very prompt at emails, helps to make a photography timeline throughout the whole day, and she moves fast but efficient. Megan has truly allowed me to relive one of the best days of my life again just by looking at the pictures. She was worth every single dollar!! -

Amazing photographer
Megan was an absolutely amazing photographer. We originally had our engagement photo shoot with her back in June 2019 and the photos were amazing. She was so flexible and communicative with us when we had to postpone due to COVID. She got in touch with us early and we were able to keep her as our photographer for our wedding a year later. In the lead up to the wedding she was so helpful and made sure we had everything planned to get all the shots we wanted. Day of she was so great, as was the second shooter Bethany. Everyone had an amazing time and were laughing with Megan and Bethany which made smiling for lots of photos that much easier. We got some sneak peeks a couple of days after our wedding that were breathtaking and are absolutely amazed by all the final photos. So many of our guests are so impressed by the photos. We would highly recommend Megan to anyone looking for an awesome photographer in the DC area! -

Deciding to hire Megan was one of the absolute best decisions we made for our wedding day, and we can't recommend her enough! Our pictures turned out absolutely beautiful, and are so colorful and cheerful and captured our day perfectly. She also did a phenomenal job with our engagement photos, capturing some stunning shots in Shenandoah at sunset. We initially found her after looking for a wedding photographer who was also good with dogs since our ceremony was going to prominently feature our best dog of honor, and from our initial conversation we knew she'd be a great match for us. We felt super comfortable working with her, and her tips and advice resulted in some absolutely fantastic pictures (and some super adorable ones of our pup!). We got a great mix of posed and candid shots, and she did such a great job of capturing the fun. She was also extremely communicative and so prepared for anything. The weather on our wedding day was tricky, and when the sun changed to a sudden downpour, she had clear umbrellas ready to go so that we could keep taking pictures! Our pictures are everything and more than I ever could have asked for, and hiring Megan was truly worth every penny! -

When COVID forced us to postpone our wedding four months out, I was pretty stressed trying to plan a microwedding on such short notice. We discovered Megan from her blog post about planning a wedding at the DC War Memorial. She was amazing to work with and the day ran so smoothly with her on our team. She was an essential point of contact and helped us plan our entire day's timeline. Her familiarity with the venue helped us ensure we had all the permitting correct and that we had the most ideal timeline. She never tried to pressure us into paying for something we didn't need, she was truly invested in capturing our day the way we imagined. She was incredibly easy to get ahold of before the big day, and when one of my vendors cancelled last minute she went above and beyond by calling some contacts to try to find me a new make-up artist. My new-husband was a little camera shy, but Megan helped him feel super comfortable and it really shows in the photos. I love all our photos so much it has been difficult to choose which to print! Having access to all our digital photos in an online gallery is awesome because we can print as many as we like, and not all photographers offer this. Overall I enthusiastically recommend Megan. -

Megan Rei was the perfect photographer who made our engagement proposal so special. From beginning to end, Megan was a joy to work with. I contacted Megan through her website, and we had a great phone call that week to start planning. Megan was very flexible with the plans I had in mind, and she had really, really helpful tips about location, timing, and logistics for my surprise proposal. Megan was super responsive over email, was great about my changing dates in the month prior to the event, and we had a great call to finalize last details a few days before the event. On the day of, Megan's approach could not have been better. She arrived well in advance and had a great hiding place during the surprise proposal! During my fiance's and my proposals to each other, Megan took beautiful photos of us without us even knowing she was there, letting us truly enjoy the moment. At the same time she had really great ideas, after the proposals were over, about how to pose and create gorgeous shots. Megan's photos were crisp, beautifully framed, full of color, and had a variety of wide and close-up shots which we really appreciated. We even received a few photos from Megan the day after, which we loved! We received all the photos just a couple weeks later and we could not be happier. Megan is a truly talented photographer, super responsive, has great ideas to make any shoot a success, and her pricing is reasonable and transparent. We are already looking forward to doing a dog photoshoot with Megan next and hopefully working together on our wedding! We would recommend Megan to anyone looking for beautiful photos and a great person to work with. -

We had such a positive experience with Megan Rei!! Not only was she super accommodating with us during wedding planning, but she consistently went above and beyond to support us throughout the pandemic. From sending cookies on our original wedding date, to picking up the phone to discuss options on rescheduling, to handling my tears and anxiety with grace ... I am so glad we booked Megan!! On our actual wedding day, megan and her assistant were super calm and prepared. We ended up having a big rainstorm on our actual wedding day where she was fully prepared with umbrellas and all the protective gear for her equipment. Our photos ended up so magical with the rain! I am amazed at the photos and can’t recommend her enough 😊❤️ -

After being ghosted by our original photographer and having a real tight date my fiance and I needed our pics taken by, I found Megan and she was super responsive and willing to work with our timeline! It was 30 degrees the day my fiance and I got our pics taken and yes, I was wearing opened toe shoes and a sleeveless dress🥶 Megan still made sure we looked our best and took some AMAZING pictures! She even brought treats for Gia (our pup) and hand warmers for me 🥺 she directed us the entire time and made it feel effortlessly. We had a great time and of course she made us feel safe the entire time by keeping social distance and wearing a mask.

We had an amazing experience with Megan Rei Photography. Due to COVID-19, we had to change dates/ location of our engagement shoot a few times (and ultimately decided to turn it into an elopement shoot) and Megan was incredibly flexible and responsive. Megan helped us through permit procurement processes and also helped us find a new location/ put together contingencies when our original plans fell through.
Megan captured all of the shots we wanted and provided guidance to us on how to pose. We did a first look, a small ceremony (just us, our dog, and Megan), took TONS of photos around the venue, popped a bottle of champagne, and cut our cake. Megan was very well prepared and even brought a squeaky toy to help get our dog's attention. Our dog was a bit hyper-active during the session and she was very patient and sweet with him. Megan wore a mask the entire session and was very courteous of COVID-19 safety precautions (she is also a public health expert!).
We received a sneak peek of our photos a few days after the shoot, and then our entire portfolio within a month. It was easy for us to download all of our photos (300+) - which is an incredible value - and print them from our preferred shop. We were able to share the portfolio and the awesome blog she wrote about our day with our families. One of the reasons we selected Megan is that her work is timeless - her style is bright and natural. We love love love all of our photos and really enjoyed working with her. We highly recommend Megan Rei Photography! -

Megan's photography is beautiful! Working with her for our engagement photos was effortless. She's friendly, gave us clear instructions, helped pose us, was patient with our dogs, and gave us a lot more photos than other photographers would! She was also very flexible when it came to inclement weather. Lastly, she wore a mask the entire time and used long lenses as an additional form of social distancing. I felt very safe. Professional, puppy-loving photographer!
My fiancé, puppy and I had the WONDERFUL experience of working with Megan. It goes without saying that the photos turned out better than I could have hoped, but it was the experience of working with her that made our whole photo shoot a great memory. She was timely, professional, as kind as could be and, most importantly, good at being a photographer. She gave two people who hate taking pictures great direction and we were able to enjoy ourselves instead of being awkward and overwhelmed. She took gorgeous posed photos that don't actually look posed, and she also captured special candid moments throughout the day that we absolutely love. We will certainly use her for all future family photography needs. -

Working with Megan was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding! From the initial phone calls to get to know each other and talk about options all the way to receiving our final suite of pictures, she was thorough, prompt, and detailed, and made us feel so comfortable and like we had known each other forever! My fiance Matt and I had a wonderful experience with Megan as our engagement/doggo photographer. We did our photo shoot at the National Zoo and around our Mount Pleasant neighborhood in DC. Megan worked with us through a couple of rain delays, and was a ton of fun onsite and always accommodating. She also took amazing photos of us and our two (wild) dogs. Megan is the absolute best!! We could not have asked for a better photographer for our wedding. She captured our day so beautifully, we re-live our wedding over and over each time we look back at our photos. So many people came up to us during and after the wedding to compliment us on Megan. Our guests not only noticed her professionalism, but also her determination to capture each and every detail. She was also very prepared. About 30 minutes before our ceremony (which was supposed to be outside) a huge thunderstorm rolled through and everything had to be moved indoors at the last minute. We probably would have never been able to get everything moved in time had it not been for Megan's insanely accurate weather app. She had been tracking the weather all afternoon and was able to predict the rain, pretty much down to the minute. As the bride, I had a million different things going through my head that day, so the fact that someone else was worrying about the weather and working with the venue to get everything flipped was a huge weight off my shoulders. She also had umbrellas for our photos and was able to capture some beautiful shots. Her preparedness completely calmed any anxiety I had about the monsoon that could have ruined our wedding, and now that we see the photos, some of our favorites are actually ones in the rain! Look no further for your photographer, whether it's for your wedding, maternity shoot, family shoot, or something else. We would recommend her over and over and over again. We can't thank you enough Megan!!!! -

We found Megan on instagram because she specializes in dog/wedding photography and words can't describe how ecstactic we are to know and have worked with her! My husband and I DO NOT like taking photos and Megan made the whole process so simple, easy, and relaxing. She helped us wrangle the National Park Service AND our dog for our engagement photos, and then the day of our wedding was a great leader, and a trooper in the cold. We haven't seen our wedding photos yet, but don't really need to in order to give Megan 5 stars. We can't reccomend her enough! -

When my now husband and I started wedding planning, we knew quickly that it could be a stressful time for us both. I was actually lucky enough to already know Megan since her and I had played soccer throughout the years together. Before even deciding that Megan would be our photographer, she sent me information on wedding vendors and provided key recommendations based on her experience in being in the wedding business. She did not push herself on us but left the door open if we wanted to take it in that direction. I admire her because that proves what a genuine person she is as I felt she really wanted to be helpful. This was a big decision on why we decided to not even “shop around” for a photographer.
After meeting with Megan to discuss our potential arrangement, my fiancé was so impressed with how she carried herself and her insight into everything wedding related. It didn’t hurt that Megan is an avid dog-lover and we just happened to see her many photos from engagements/wedding sessions that highlight not only the love between two people but ALSO the love they have for their dog.
We absolutely loved working with Megan! From our engagement photos to our wedding photos – she captured everything perfectly! We especially enjoyed her guidance during not only the prep meetings but during each component of our big day. My fiancé and I initially thought we would feel awkward but, Megan allowed for us to be ourselves and guide us through to capture our amazing photos.
Megan took great care of us throughout the entire process and her knowledge of everything wedding-related helped us to plan our magical day. We couldn’t be more grateful and amazed by the work that she delivered on. She is a true professional and a great person. I ran across Megan's Instagram after another photographer missed a scheduled introductory phone call with me. I was planning a surprise proposal for my now fiance. From the get go, Megan helped me plan the perfect proposal by recommending locations, things to do the day of and even helping by being a bird watcher at the totally made up Manassas Battlefield Civil War reenactors. We then chose her to do an engagement shoot in Old Town Alexandria. She knew the best locations and even scouted some out on the fly. On top of that, she had awesome tips on getting great pictures with our super reactive dog. I high recommend Megan for any of your wedding, proposal, engagement or really any photography needs. If she isn't available, she reaches out to her network of photographers to find someone that'll work out for you! -

I honestly don't even know where to begin because there aren't any words to describe how incredible Megan is, not just as a professional but as a friend! She captured our engagement session in Richmond, driving down to hangout with us by the river and on the canal walk. We did a phone interview before where she walked us through the entire planning process with ease and she even explored places in our city where we could take pictures. During the entire wedding planning process, Megan was always available for any questions, concerns or just to chat! We met up several times for coffee when she was in Richmond and became friends during my engagement season. Megan's style is effortless and I always felt extremely comfortable with her directions, guidance with posing and never felt like anything was forced. And her pictures tell all! On our wedding day she was there even before she had to be, just to scope out the venue and check out where we would be taking pictures for our first look, ceremony, group shots and more. Megan gave us the most incredible experience I could've asked for and is quite possibly the only photographer I will ever hire! Megan Rei is a fantastic photographer and really took the time to personalize our engagement photo session to make it exactly what we wanted. She is based out of Virginia, but she came to Denver, CO for several clients. Prior to her trip, she researched Golden Canyon State Park in Colorado so that when the day came, we knew right where to go to get some gorgeous shots with golden-yellow aspen trees in the background! ♥ Shortly after the photo session, she published several sneak-peek photos to hold us over while she works at editing the rest of the batch. The ones she already showed us turned out GORGEOUS and I'm so excited to see the rest of them! Megan has lots of great ideas for poses and knows how to make a couple feel at ease. I would HIGHLY recommend Megan to anyone who is seeking a wedding/engagement photographer! -

Big surprise at the Jefferson memorial!
Megan did a great job with our engagement photos! She was very kind and helpful with directions and what would look nice. She was great when it came to capturing the moment (proposal), I had no idea that my fiancé had hired a photographer so it was really nice that it still felt like a private moment. Both of our families loved them and would recommend her to anyone needing a photographer in the dc area! -
