    Lovey wedding experience!

I had a small (~35 people) wedding reception at the Lorien, and would definitely recommend! The value was great, and the whole process to book and plan was made so easy by the lovey team. The food was great, and I appreciated that the spaces at the Lorien are flexible so I could host a really intimate dinner with family, but still have extra spaces that people could use to mingle and chat throughout! The events team, especially Jennifer, were incredibly helpful and communicative, answering my million questions and being very flexible right up until the last minute. It was also great to have a room included in the package as that made everything so convenient. All of my guests who stayed at the hotel really enjoyed it (and it’s dog friendly!) and we had a wonderful time - all of the staff were so kind and helpful, and we had an incredible time.

    We would do it again!

Everything at the Lorien was incredible. We chose the venue because hospitality was our priority; we wanted good food and excellent service. The Lorien surpassed every expectation that we had.

My aunt was our florist and did the decorations, she has raved at not only how helpful staff was in setting out the decorations, but how creative! Kat and her staff came up with creative solutions to unforeseen problems. They responded with professionalism at every turn, making what easily could have been a stressful day smooth and fun.

Our families and friends enjoyed chatting with the bartender and a number of the staff working the event; and felt that their enthusiasm and personalities added to the fun and atmosphere of joy of the evening. The venue was creative and perfect for allowing dancing and conversations, and mingling among guests.

So many of our guests have complimented that this was the best wedding they have been to and we agree; if we did it over again, we would not change a thing.

The Lorien is beautiful, their staff is wonderful, and the food was great!

Our wedding at the Lorien was STELLAR. I loved working with Amanda, she was very responsive and flexible. The service we received from the front desk staff, catering staff, housekeeping, and valets throughout the weekend was impeccable. We appreciated the big and little things the staff did to make our wedding memorable.... like taking such good care of our parents when checked in to leaving a plate of cocktail hour apps on our sweetheart table since we were taking photos during cocktail hour. The space looked amazing... we had our ceremony in the courtyard, dinner in the Liberty ballroom, and dancing in the Freedom room. Our guests raved at how beautiful the space was (the courtyard with the fire pits!) and how tasty the food was. We truly appreciate their efforts to make our wedding day so spectacular.

From the minute we met Donna Vaughn, we knew this was our venue. Old Town Alexandria charm was perfectly captured at the Lorien. Having Donna and Kathryn for planning and executing was just icing on the cake. They expertly guided us on this adventure, keeping things simple and elegant. The day of is full of surprises and nerves but like pros, they didn't allow my nerves to mess things up! My last minute request to alter the order of events was met with smiles and zero issues. Every person on the staff was fully committed and engaged to make our night exactly how we wanted it to be. From the valet driver to Ms. Eleanor in housekeeping. Family and friends were impressed with location and those who stayed the night were welcomed by Julie and Ashley and made feel like they were home. I can't say enough about how wonderful our special day was. The food from Brabo was amazing and everyone said so. The cake was from Fluffy thoughts and it was to die for besides gorgeous. The chef also surprised me with a small pineapple cake on the side, because I mentioned I wanted one. That was a special detail they went out of the way to provide and it was such a personal touch, and greatly appreciated.

Thank you Donna and staff for taking us in like family. Seriously... Donna held my hand when I was woozy before first look. Who does that?! Donna does, because she rocks!

We had a fantastic night! Donna and the team made it very special. They were very accommodating.

We had an intimate November wedding for 26 guests and they all said it was a great venue.

Donna was amazing to work with - extremely reassuring and informative, and very thoughtful. She helped us pick delicious options for our dinner and cocktail hour, and set everything up beautifully. Donna was so considerate, and helped us create a welcoming and warm environment for all our guests. The venue was a perfect fit for an intimate, family-centric wedding. It was a unique set-up, and looked beautiful.

By far the best experience to work with the Lorien and especially with Donna! Our day would not have been the same without her passion, dedication and keen eye for detail! If you are looking for a unique, elegant and culinary experience for your wedding, look no further than the Lorien. Donna, Director of Catering took care of every detail big and small to make our wedding day the perfect day for us. We cannot express how beautiful everything was, how delicious all the food was and how everyone at the hotel took care of us. Thank you Donna and your team!

The Lorien Hotel in Old Town Alexandria was a wonderful choice for our wedding reception. We had 40 guests and that is a good size for this venue. The food is prepared by the chef at Brabo and it was superb. The setting and decor were beautiful and exactly as we requested. And the staff working the day of the event were very professional and helpful. Thank you!

Lorien Hotel & Spa! You went beyond that level of excellence. What an amazing wedding day. How incredibly amazing!
The Kimpton hotel had a wedding expo in which we toured three of their properties in Alexandria. When entering The Lorien Hotel & Spa and knew it was the perfect fit for us after months of looking at different venues in surround area within the tri-state.
Kristen Alley Corrigan led her staff who provided such an facinating and captivating experience. From meeting with Kristen in the planning stages I knew everything would go well. Onsite restaurant, 'Brabo' by Robert Wiedmaier, would provide the catering for the evening. Being one of Northern VA Best restaurants, we knew the food would be amazing.
Our ceremony would take place on the 6th floor terrace and later reception would continue downstairs in the living room, Liberty Terrace w/firepit, and independence room. These rooms had a wonderful flow that made it feel like home. Dinner would be served in the Liberty room. Everything would be set up as planned.
We arrived the night before at The Lorien Hotel & Spa Reservation desk made the first impression with such professionalism and were ready with answers to any and every question. We were escorted to our suite. The next morning went to the Spa for much needed message. Once we left the spa and reached our rooms we were ready for the rest of the days festivies. It was clear that the staff was prepared and ready to go for the days events. Our vendors were well taken care of as they arrived with their services. Kristen greeted us and continued to ensure everything went well during the evening. I was able to breathe easier knowing Kristen and staff had everything under control. I just released and enjoyed our day.
What an amazing wedding day. Our guests are still raving.
Lorien Hotel & Spa, Brabo Restaurant, Kristen Alley Corrigan and staff! How Magical! What an enchanting evening you created for us! For our Special Day!
    Thank you! Thank you!

The Venue and the food were fantastic. Kristin was always helpful and made sure everything went great on our day. Everybody who attended had glowing comments about how helpful Kristin was to them during our event. If I had to nit pik on anything, the A&V guy who set up the sound system was not that knowledgeable - but it was fine. Definitely recommend Kristin and the Lorien.

I hosted my wedding here on Saturday Sept. 5, 2015. It was a brunch style intimate wedding (reception started at 11 AM ended at 3PM) with 75 guests on Labor Day weekend. I was really nervous about the space because it does look small but after seeing it set up for another event I knew it would work. Plus, reading the reviews from other brides having small weddings helped ease mu anxiety.
This place is really a little gem tucked away off of busy King Street. The entire hotel has a very earthy yet sophisticated and elegant feel. Perfect for those who don’t want a hotel venue but don’t want that hotel feel if you get my drift. The main entrance has brick everywhere which gives the space a lot of character and is great for pictures. Each conference space adding a different feel and we loved the fact that our wedding wasn’t in one big conference room. Our elderly guests enjoyed the comfort of the library, the young crowd loved the outdoor patio, and other guests mingled in the different rooms. The layout provides a whole different feel which made it that more intimate and unique.
The wedding was catered by BRABO and it was amazing!!! I was nervous about having a “brunch style” wedding but it totally worked and all of our guests commented on the quality of the food. We had the typical breakfast food but also did salmon and salads. Our guests loved the uniqueness our reception offered and many commented that they had never had a brunch at a wedding. To top things off we also had a belini and mimosa bar which was a big hit!
We experienced a few hiccups however the general manager Tobias Arff personally apologized and remedied the situation. Overall I was pleased with the staff and I am so happy we chose this venue. It was perfect for our small yet intimate wedding and you will not be disappointed. Special thank you to Nakena Griggs the Sales Manager who worked with our wedding planner and really made this a successful event.

I've always wanted to get married at the Lorien, but our wedding guest list pushed us over the 100 person max... all is not lost though, and we are looking at instead having our REHEARSAL dinner at the Lorien - catered by the AMAZING Brabo restaurant, the value and options are 5-star... we cannot wait! Plus Kristin has been super generous and has helped us feel completely comfortable with our options and the event space. We are putting down our deposit in the next few days and are thrilled!

My wife, Connie and I were really happy with the wedding and reception we had at the Lorien on April 18. Of course the hotel, the food, and the venue in general were great. But what really made this such a wonderful day was all the work and planning and actual execution of every detail concerning the event. Kristin Alley (now Corrigan) was an absolute joy to work with. From the first time we met her, when we were looking at different venues, we knew that that the Lorien would be perfect and that Kristin would be great to work with.

She was really excited to be helping us with the planning…everything from the menus to the appetizers to drinks, to little details like the unity candle and everything else that goes into it. She took her time with us and got to know us a little bit so she could better help us with the planning. She seems to really love her work…it was as if she was planning her own event!

Once we settled on menu items and everything else, she made sure everything was confirmed and she personally coordinated setting everything up on the day of the wedding. She was very professional and detail oriented, yet friendly and down to earth. During the event she continued to make sure everything moved the way it was supposed to and insured that we were happy.
We could not have been more pleased with everything!

Kristin is a pleasure to work with from beginning to the end. We had a lot of details for our wedding and even more decors to decorate our event and the entire staff was very accommodating. There was a stressful moment during the reception where a few guests were not on the guest list and did not have seats on the table. The Lorien Staff took care of the situation right away with poise and speed that the other guests did not even notice there was a problem. Food was amazing and the ambiance is perfect. Me and my husband highly recommend this vendor.

The Lorien Hotel & Spa was the perfect venue for our wedding (we had a little over 75 guests) and we would highly recommend it to those looking to have a well run, low stress wedding day! Particularly, Kristin, our venue coordinator, was amazing and I don't think things would have run as smoothly that day if it wasn't for her. She helped us to keep on schedule and told us where to stand and when. She knew and helped us prepare for all the little details that one doesn't really think of until the moment comes. The food came out perfectly and the staff was very attentive. It's definitely worth every penny and I'm so glad we were able to work with Kristin and have our wedding at the Lorien.

We had our wedding reception at the Lorien in May 2015. It was the perfect size venue for our group (65 guests). We were drawn to the Lorien because of the location, and, in fact, after the wedding, many of our guests told us how much they enjoyed visiting and exploring Old Town Alexandria. We also loved the Lorien itself because of the unique layout of the reception space. Instead of just one large, impersonal ballroom, you get 4 beautiful spaces, including a comfy “living room” area and an outdoor patio. Another perk is that the Lorien has a contract with an event furniture/décor rental company, which made it fairly easy to rent the items (including chairs, linens, and tableware) that we wanted to customize the space and create the atmosphere we were envisioning for our reception. The food is catered by BRABO, the adjoining restaurant. Everything was delicious and our guests raved about their meals! All of the staff were wonderful, especially Kristin Alley Corrigan, Wedding Specialist/Director of Catering. It was such a pleasure working with Kristin- she is kind and always made us feel like she cared about us and our celebration. She is professional and great at her job – she took the time to meet with us on several occasions and was always responsive to phone calls and emails. She assisted us with selecting our menu and even worked with the catering staff to create a custom appetizer and cocktail. She also created a reception timeline for us which was very helpful. On our wedding day, she was there throughout the day as our vendors made their deliveries and did their setup. She also stayed late into the evening to make sure everything was going smoothly and, perhaps most importantly, make sure that WE were happy with the food and venue. Everything exceeded our (high) expectations!

The Lorien provided the most amazing setting for both my ceremony and reception! If you are having a more intimate-sized wedding you can't go wrong here. The rooftop terrace was lovely for the ceremony (such a nice option, and luckily the weather cooperated with us) and the reception spaces are beautiful. Kristin, the hotel coordinator/catering manager, is SO helpful. She answered my numerous emails quickly, and worked with me to make sure everything went the way we had planned. She was also there on the day of to make sure everything is running smoothly and on schedule, which was a plus for me since I didn't hire an outside wedding planner. The rest of the staff are great too! Also, the food is AMAZING. I can't recommend the Lorien enough.

Our overall experience with the Lorien in Alexandria was fantastic! Kristin was great at contacting us about updates and developments throughout the wedding process, and once we were able to figure out what our vision was for the wedding, Kristin did a fantastic job creating exactly what we wanted. Our wedding required a lot of detail as we tried to be creative throughout the process. We thought that breaking out of a "traditional" wedding would make the process difficult, but it proved to be something that we absolutely enjoyed! Kristin was great at making sure communication was open, so we never felt like we didn't know exactly what was going on. She did a great job in communicating with our vendors, as promised, and was able to work out smaller details that we had not thought about. On the day of the wedding, unexpected things popped up, but Kristin was able to accommodate and adjust as the day went on without breaking a sweat. The entire staff at the Lorien was so friendly and attentive to us and the guests throughout the whole day, and everything was set up beautifully and to our specifications. The catering done through Brabo was fantastic, and many of our guests told us it was the best food they have had at a wedding. We are so thankful to the Lorien and Kristin for working with us through the entire process and helping to create the perfect wedding day!

My wedding was this past Saturday, June 7th, and I can't say enough good things about the Lorien Hotel and its Director of Catering, Kristin Alley. Kristin was instrumental in making sure that our day went perfectly and that we never had a single concern. She is very friendly and very professional. She was so considerate in leaving us wonderful notes in our room along with food to make sure we had something to eat. We thought our whole cake was going to be needed to feed our guests, but we ended up not touching the top layer and so she put that in our room to take home with us. She even had to run an errand for us (unity candle mishap) in the middle of our wedding. So thoughtful! I would gladly work with her again if I needed to host another big event. Brabo catered the food and everyone raved about how good everything tasted. The hotel staff was also amazing. Dainte (spelling?) was such a pleasure with making sure we were happy through the reception and that we always had a full glass. :) Shane "Showtime" was wonderful with taking care of us throughout the weekend, especially the day after our wedding when he packed up our car for us. We are certain that wouldn't happen at just any hotel. Thank you again, Kristin and the Lorien Staff!!

We held our wedding at the Lorien in April. Our wedding had about 50 guests. For smaller weddings such as ours, we can't imagine a much better location than the Lorien. We held the ceremony on the Freedom Terrace, our cocktail hour in the Library and the Independence room, and the reception in the Liberty room. Everything was done just as we requested. Kristin, the wedding specialist, was easy to work with and very attentive throughout the night. Kristen allowed us to modify the standard wedding package in several ways at no additional cost. The staff was amazing. We received numerous compliments from guests about how the staff was constantly on top of everything and very responsive to special requests. The food, prepared by the staff at BRABO, was outstanding. The total cost was less than we were quoted at several other places. Overall, we have no complaints, and feel that the Lorien did a great job with each portion of the night. We enthusiastically recommend the Lorien as a spot for smaller weddings.

We had an intimate wedding (50 guests) at the Lorien in April 2014. Kristin Alley was our event coordinator and she was a DREAM! I loved working with her. It's difficult to explain in one review how amazing our experience with Kristin was. She was kind, attentive, helpful, creative, down-to-earth, realistic and my questions/concerns (no matter how silly) never went unanswered. I didn't have a wedding planner, but I felt like I didn't even need one with Kristin's help. Our event went off without any problems. My guests were blown away by the food and venue. Kristin helped us with every detail (menu, timeline, pricing, décor, etc). Also, We really needed a place that could give us everything we wanted within a very tight budget. I was concerned that the Lorien might have been to pricy for our budget... but once again, with Kristin's help, we were able to have everything we wanted. We had the ceremony, cocktail hour and sit down dinner for a fraction of what I thought it would be. Our favorite dishes were the carrot-ginger soup (best ever!) and brabo chicken. To be honest everything we ate was phenomenal. My guests can't stop talking about how perfect our wedding was. I am so thankful to the Lorien, the exceptional staff and especially Kristin for making our wedding everything we wanted and more. If I could do it all over again I would do everything the exact same way.

*Note: The front desk, spa and restaurant staff were really adorable and friendly. Throughout our stay everyone always had a smile on their face and they were a pleasure to be around. Not to mention they have a complimentary wine hour in the lobby every night, brilliant to say the least.

The director of catering, Kristin, is absolutely wonderful! She is easy to work with, always organized, professional and friendly, and deals with every and any near-crisis with total ease and confidence. I cannot imagine how anyone could do this job any better than Kristin does it. If I had to plan 100 weddings, I would choose her to be on my team every time!

We had our wedding at the Lorien two weeks ago. The hotel is attached to an amazing restaurant, Brabo, that caters Lorien weddings. Our wedding was amazing and I know a lot of that is due to the staff at the Lorien & Brabo. We had our ceremony on the Presidential Suite terrace. The view of Old Town was lovely and having the beautiful blue sky in the background of our photographs is awesome. The wedding coordinator, Christina, and catering manager, Nikki, were amazing. They were able to keep my calm and answered all of my questions and never once seemed annoyed with my numerous emails. On the day of the wedding, Diante made sure everything ran smoothly and checked in with my husband and I throughout the reception to make sure we were taken care of. Every person we interacted with at the hotel was professional, courteous, and fantastic. I can't express enough what a great group of folks this is to work with. It really makes a difference on your wedding day to know there are so many great people there to make sure things run smoothly. I had an 11 page document with images and directions on how I wanted everything set up for the cocktail hour and reception. All of these were executed perfectly by the staff. I asked if they could fold the dinner napkins like pinwheels, since there were pinwheels throughout my decor, and they did! It was a nice touch for the table settings. There were so many details that I excruciatingly planned out and it was so amazing to see it all executed perfectly by the staff. It was a load off of my shoulders and exemplifies the quality of service you can expect at the Lorien. The food was AWESOME. I was told by several of our guests how wonderful the food was and that it was the best food they'd ever had at a wedding. If you are a foodie, then you should definitely consider Brabo as your caterer. The Lorien Hotel & Spa & Brabo Restaurant: AMAZING STAFF, AMAZING SERVICE, AMAZING FOOD. You won't regret it.

The Lorien Hotel is a perfect location for a small wedding, especially if you want the ceremony in the same location. We had about 70 people at our wedding and the size of the venue was perfect. Our ceremony was up on a suite balcony. It was great to have 4 rooms to move about for cocktail hour, dinner, and drinks and dancing. The fire pit was on in the courtyard and the overall decor is wonderful for great photographs. The food was delicious - it has been almost 6 months and guests still rave about the pork shank and the chicken entrees. Christina was our wedding planner and she handled everything flawlessly. She was always quick to answer our questions or to modify details getting closer to the wedding day. On the day of, we weren't sure when the flowers were arriving, and Christina got that resolved very quickly. It was a beautiful day without any hiccups and I know it's because of the great work by Christina and the entire staff at the Lorien Hotel.

This hotel is special to my husband and I because we often dine at Brabo restaurant on birthdays and anniversaries and we stayed at the Lorien Hotel & Spa the night my husband and I got engaged. I knew this would be the perfect spot to host a small, intimate wedding reception. I worked with Christina Hardin and she is absolutely amazing and made planning a wedding a breeze! The entire hotel staff treated us like royalty and all of our guests said it was the best wedding they have ever been too (best food too)!! I could not have envised a more perfect wedding. Thank you Lorien Hotel and Christina!

Because of a storm, we lost power in our original wedding venue. We had 5 hours to plan a new wedding at the Lorien. The staff was amazing, flexible, and responsive. Because of their help we had a wonderful wedding at a beautiful venue. I would certainly recommend them to any bride!

The Lorien Hotel hosted both my ceremony and reception for my wedding and it was absolutely the most perfect venue! The hotel itself is very modern and chic and the staff was awesome. Christina the event coordinator was such a pleasure to work with and was always available to answer all my question all the way up to the wedding day and was also there in person for the day of the wedding. The food served here was also amazing, many of our guests commented at how good the food was. We really loved everything about this hotel and the staff and are so happy we choose this venue for our special day!

We had our ceremony, cocktail hour and reception at the Lorien. It is the perfect venue for a intimate, relaxed, elegant wedding. The package they offer includes the space, food, wedding cake, a suite for the wedding night, and is a great value. Christina was very helpful, responsive and had good suggestions for different aspects of the ceremony and reception. Some of our guests had a problem making a room reservation at our room block rate, and when I contacted Christina she immediately resolved the situation. The staff was also very friendly, helpful and responsive. Joanne Decoux, the hotel's pastry chef, offered several different flavors and options for the presentation of the cake, which we appreciated. The cake, and all of the food, was delicious. It was fun working with them, and I'd definitely consider using them for other events. You can't go wrong with the Lorien.

I used the Lorien Hotel & Spa for my reception and accommodations for guests. The event planners were incredibly helpful, flexible and accommodating. The hotel staff was delightful and all of our guests were very pleased with their experience. The food was excellent, and all was delivered at a very reasonable price. I would do it all again at the Lorien and will definitely consider them for events in the future.

The Lorien's wedding package was a fantastic value. We decided to have all our events at the Lorien, and for our very small wedding of only 25 people the Lorien was the perfect size! None of the rooms felt "too empty." Everyone at the wedding told me how much they enjoyed the food, and I have to say the food was the best I've ever eaten at the wedding. I'm not one for "details," but Christina, the event planner made sure she had me covered well in advance of the wedding. I'm sure it was her behind the scenes expertise that made the evening go like clockwork. The hotel is already so beautifully decorated we barely had to add a thing, and the hotel's spaces really lend themselves to creative and beautiful photography. I have to give a special mention to the staff, who were uniformly very pleasant and supremely helpful. They even helped us return my husband's tuxedo when we realized that the tuxedo rental place was closed the day we had intended to return it (before taking off on our honeymoon). The service went above and beyond, and made my wedding an absolutely low-stress affair. My girlfriends all commented how calm and collected I was, and I think it was totally because I knew that Christina and the Lorien staff had everything taken care of.

The cake was exactly how I had envisioned it thanks to pastry chef Kate Baltran. She worked with us on every last detail ensuring it was what we wanted. It was helpful to have the cake tasting event, although it was only one week before our wedding. Wish it had been earlier to ease the stress during the planning process.

We recently had our wedding here. The staff are all tremendous, and very willing to go the extra mile for any sort of request, in both wedding preperation and day-of-event requests. I seemed to have at least one staff member at my beck and call should I ever blink, but they were always unobtrusive and let our day flow beautifully.

Everyone raved about the food, catered by Brabo, and thought the hotel was incredibly beautiful and perfect for a wedding. It was also a tremendous location due to proximity to Metro, other restaurants and bars, and a great walkable neighborhood.

The hotel rooms are comfortable and relaxing, though a bit smaller than a normal business traveler hotel. The bed was absolutely amazing; we had relatives who like hard bed and soft beds both rave about how comfortable the beds were.

    Warning: valet parking is $25/day.

Although I initially wanted a funky, unusual type of venue like a warehouse or loft space, I'm glad I decided on the Lorien, a beautiful new boutique hotel by Kimpton. It's romantic, modern with traditional touches and calming. The wedding package offered is extraordinarily comprehensive and all of the catering came from Brabo, a Robert Wiedemeier restaurant connected to the hotel. We were hoping for some decent wedding food, but were blown away by the quality of each course - especially the vegetarian entree. In addition, a wedding cake was included in the package and I couldn't believe how smooth and luscious it tasted. I felt lucky to be so taken care of and to be assisted by such friendly staff. Jeana was also a dream to work with. I'd recommend this as a wedding location in a heartbeat.

Couldn’t have asked for better service, attention, quality, care or sense of peace of mind from the Lorien for our wedding and reception. Donna is an absolute goddess of all things wedding/event oriented - and that’s aside from being a deeply fabulous person. Her guidance, suggestions, recommendations and overall attention to detail are extraordinarily spot-on. We simply could not have been in better hands. On top of all this, the food was fantastic. If you’re going to have beef at your reception, very highly recommend the short ribs. But even the chicken was sublime. This venue, and the rest of the entire staff at the Lorien, was spectacular. It truly made for exactly the wedding and reception we truly wanted.

In our search for a local wedding venue that wasn't going to break the bank, we stumbled upon the Lorien. Immediately we fell in love with the atmosphere and the staff! Kristin, the event planner, was phenomenal and helped us every step of the way. Once we selected the Lorien, Kristin gave us all the tools to set up the perfect wedding; walking us through different food and drink options, as well as decorations and timelines. Kristin worked to create a specific menu and drink options for us, as well as adjusting timelines and decorations. The day of the wedding she was there coordinating set up of the decorations we prepared and coordinated with all the vendors, though we didn't have to have too many vendors, as the Lorien had almost everything in house.
The staff that assisted Kristin, notably Dionte and Nancy tended to our every need, anticipating our request or foreseeing the next move, and took action to make our day perfect. The attentiveness and hard work of the staff at the Lorien is unparalleled.
We were concerned with the multiple room approach to the evening, but the setup and staff made things so smooth, that the rooms were just what we wanted and needed! You won't find a better place in Old Town Alexandria for a wedding!

The Lorien Hotel is the perfect venue for a smaller wedding. Our wedding was 86 people and we originally thought we would want to do a historic house or museum but once we started investigating it was going to be way too much work for us managing multiple vendors. By chance we ran across the Lorien Hotel after we had dismissed most hotels because we didn't want a huge ballroom for a small wedding. We were so incredibly happy we ended up at the Lorien! The food was out of this world and we received so many complements on it including that it was the best wedding food they ever had from multiple people. I loved that the cake was included since I didn't care that much about it. In the end the cake was beautiful and actually tasted good! The feel of the hotel was modern and classy and our pictures are beautiful. Everyone at the hotel was so accommodating and our guests all felt very well taken care of. The location in Old Town was great because it was close to the metro and people could either walk or take the trolley to the heart of Old Town. I can't say enough good things about this venue for smaller weddings!

    Fabulous food and fantastic service

We were thrilled when we found the Lorien Hotel & Spa. After a few conversations and meetings with their catering team, we knew it was the spot for us. We were a good sized wedding for the venue at 77 and the set up was impressive yet intimate. What's more the still-new hotel had beautiful rooms at incredibly reasonable prices for our out of town guests. We got all the benefits of a hotel wedding without feeling like we'd selected the Hilton. The food truly sealed the deal though--the three course menu, which included our cake--was divine. No pre-ordering or pre-prep here! Our guests ordered and were served their meals when they sat down for dinner. It took a bit longer the pre-prep but the results were well worth it. Finally the staff was incredibly courteous and responsive to our needs from the catering manager to the pastry chef to our on-site coordinator, no detail was too small for their attention and they all got it just right!

We had our ceremony and reception at the Lorien and could not have been happier! As one of the other reviewers said, several guests said that ours was the best wedding and reception they had ever been to! The staff was extremely professional and the service was outstanding. We had a dessert only reception for about 75 people that flowed through the 3 front rooms. We met with the bartender, Kelly, to identify a signature drink (which was a big hit), and Kate Baltren to determine the selection of desserts that we wanted (many of which were not on the list they gave us). The night before the wedding, we decided to change the layout of the room, and the staff was very flexible with that last-minute change! We had our ceremony in Independence Rooms A and B, which have mirrors on either end of the room. Several guests commented on how much they like having the mirrors up-front because they could see our faces throughout the ceremony. Neat! A big plus - the hotel is so classy that it required very little in the way of additional decorations. Frankly, it saved us a lot of money to have our wedding and reception at the Lorien! We cannot recommend the Lorien highly enough for an interesting and fun ceremony and reception.

The quality of service was wonderful. And the only reason I did not give 5 stars was due to the amount of time it took to serve dinner to some tables. We did have a large party and it is difficult to feed everyone at once. So if I could, I would only take away 1/4 of a star!

I originally wanted to stay in Hotel Monaco, another Kimpton Hotel, but they were booked the weekend of my wedding. Lorien was recommended to us, and I must say I personally loved the suite my husband and I stayed in. I received mixed reviews from my family and friends who stayed, however. Some raved, others said it wasn't worth it. While there, I felt as though accomodations were amazing, and they put up with my being a bride and calling the front desk 4-5 times a day. The only part that sucked for me was that I wanted to have the bridesmaids pampered the day before the wedding at the Lorien spa, but it was completely booked and I ended up having to take my bridesmaids elsewhere. Still, it's highly convenient, blocks from the King Street Metro.

The staff at the Lorien was extremely helpful throughout the entire wedding planning process. My husband and I were initially concerned about having a hotel for our ceremony and reception venue because we were afraid that it would feel too generic. The Lorien's decor, however, made the event feel very special without the need to rent excessive props. Additionally, the Lorien was very accommodating of our special requests (i.e., our dog was in the wedding, a signature cocktail, pies instead of cake, etc) while still offering many of the conveniences of a hotel wedding. The staff was extremely accomodating and professional both leading up to the wedding and the day of.

We did a ceremony, cocktail hour, and sit down dinner at the Lorien. We picked the location because it could accommodate a smaller wedding (35 people) and had great food. Everything was perfect, and the staff were so nice and attentive during the wedding, and over the whole weekend. Many of our guests told us that ours was the best wedding that they had ever been to. The only piece of the wedding package that we altered was that we choose to bring our own cake. We were not able to attend the cake tasting, which is offered only on one day, in our case only a couple of weeks before the wedding. (We heard that the cake was not great, anyway). Our only complaint is that sometimes it was difficult to get questions answered and email responses could be pretty slow during the planning process.

If you are looking for a sophisticated venue with gourmet food, The Lorien it is! We got married December 15, 2012 and had a gorgeous Reception at The Lorien, until today, we still receive complements on our Wedding!
Firstly, in terms of aesthetics, The Lorien offers beautiful, modern and chic spaces, easy to embellish them with any decoration style, instead of a big cold Ball Room.
Secondly, the food is simply the best! How many times have you been to weddings were the food was barely edible. At The Lorien, however, the food is provided by Brabo Restaurant, led by Award Winning Chef Robert Wiedmaier.
Thirdly, The Lorien’s wedding package is quite comprehensive. After, visiting many potential venues around the Washington, DC area, value wise, The Lorien actually falls in the moderate price category. Apart from the complimentary room for the groom and bride, they also offer a complimentary massage for the bride at their incredible Spa, as well as complimentary cake cutting and plating and wonderful chocolate covered Belgium Waffles favors!
The reason why I am not giving them 5 in Responsiveness and Professionalism is because a few details that we discussed ahead of the Wedding were overlooked, and I will recommend hiring a Wedding Planner to be on top of things.

We wanted to find a venue for a small wedding (about 25 people) and found the perfect spot at the Lorien. We used their three room combination--the Living Room for the cocktail hour, the Freedom Terrace for the ceremony and the Independence Room for the reception. it was perfectly sized for our group--not too crowded and not too big. It was just right! The Lorien offers a great wedding package that helped to minimize the number of other vendors that we needed to contract with (photographer, officiant, musician, and florist only!). The location was private and quiet (even though we were near King Street!). There is a built in rainy day option (we could have had the ceremony in the Independence Room) if there was rain. But, fortunately the day was beautiful! We enjoyed working with the Hotel's Event Planner, Donna Vaughn, who helped walk us through all of the options and decisions that we had to make. The food is very good--the Brabo Restaurant is excellent and we enjoyed the meals we selected for the dinner. (and the food tasting night is quite fun! lots of good food to choose from!). We do recommend this option for those looking for a high quality, intimate wedding location.

I'm so glad we booked the Lorien hotel to hold our wedding and reception! Nikki took care of making sure that everything was set up perfectly on our wedding day and showing our vendors where to go. It took a load of me and my now husband's shoulders to have her as the event manager for our big day.

The head event coordinator that I'd worked with in booking the Lorien quit just a few months before our wedding day. I had some communication issues around the time she left that worried me but Nikki stepped in as the new head coordinator and did an excellent job!

    Great Overall but Terrible Responsiveness

After scrapping two previous versions of our wedding due to COVID, we settled on doing our small lunch reception (20 pp) at the Lorien Hotel and Spa. The space was perfect for our sized reception and everyone raved about the food. Honestly, the day of, everything went mostly great but the weeks leading up to the event were horrible due to lack of communication. I should have known when our first e-mail took a while to be responded to, but I figured they were busy rescheduling other weddings and events and that eventually they would get a bit more focused on us once we signed an actual contract. Boy was I wrong.

To preface this, I understand we are in really weird times right now so I really tried to be as understanding and nice as possible. I worked with the Director of Sales and I'm assuming (though wasn't told directly) that she took on the responsibilities of a standard Event Planner due to layoffs or furloughs. It was clear that she wasn't a skilled wedding planner and, perhaps due to being overworked (I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt), really lacked customer service skills. Emails would go unanswered for days, small details would be missed, and some of her answers were honestly straight-up lies (for example, I requested that there be a buffet server due to COVID and she said there would be... when we got there, the buffet was serve yourself. Not great especially when I told all my guests that there would be a server to limit COVID risk). During times like these, vendors should try to be helping their clients limit their stress but honestly the Lorien caused more stress for me than any of my vendors.

I don’t want to say I regret having my reception at the Lorien because there were still a lot of pros. In addition to the great space and food, the servers were SO nice and always wore their masks. We were also given a discount on the space and could use our own sound system (speaker rental through the hotel was $200). We also stayed in the Presidential Suite and it was AMAZING; the perfect size for getting ready as well as the after-party (also we received a complimentary night). It also has a large balcony which provided a COVID friendly hang-out space. I would definitely stay in the suite again, but I'm not sure I'd ever host another event there unless there was an experienced event planner working with me.

The Lorien was the perfect venue for an intimate wedding. The location can't be beat and the staff are extremely helpful. Everything from ceremony to reception to breakfast the next morning planned under one roof. Six months later, we are still getting compliments about the food. We'll be back for our anniversary!

We got married here in 2016 (daytime wedding). The location is beautiful, doesn't require a lot of additional decorations, and photographs well. You have to use there caterers (the staff at the attached restaurant Brabo), but the food was very god and they worked with us to create a menu that we liked. You have to get your own cake though because they don't make wedding cakes. They also let us bring in some items that were special to us, like chrysanthemum tea and green tea ice cream. The only negative was that there were a number of staff changes at the coordinator position, and that affected the planning process. Overall, it was a good experience and I'd recommend this venue to others.

Kristin originally and then Nikki provided us with wonderful cordiality throughout their time with us during the planning process. There was a period of time where emails and calls were not returned due to the change in hands for the event manager role and due to such we were provided with a couple upgrades, including linens.

The Lorien coordinates with an outside vendor for certain linen and other rental needs, which caused an issue for us. Our credit card was charged three months after our event without notice or billing information from the Lorien. The charge was for the cost of napkins, sashes and delivery. The delivery was already charged by the Lorien and we never received price quotes regarding the sashes and napkins, and we were under the impression would be included with the upgrade of linens offered. It is clear that there was a lack of communication and diligence. Unfortunately, after contacting the Lorien, we requested further escalation into the issue and were expecting a call back a few days after that conversation, however no further response has come.

There was an issue with our open bar service as well. We had contracted for a set number of hours and asked that it be extended until the end of the reception pending reception status and approval. The bar was closed down for an unknown period of time and was reopened. We have also heard that the individual at the bar was at times unfriendly as well as keeping their hand extended insinuating a request for gratuity.

Concluding this review, I would like to say that the event was well executed and we were kept well on schedule throughout the entire evening. We were a little concerned about how having dinner in one location then dancing in another would go, but I would have to say that this helped keep our dance floor packed and kept the evening exciting with the change of rooms. We continue to receive compliments on the reception including the location, atmosphere, food and dinner service.
