We can't say enough good about the Wayside Inn and it's staff. We had our wedding at the Martha-Mary Chapel and the reception in the Wayside Inn main dining room. It was a beautiful setting and everything was great. The Wayside had a church sexton (Charlene) for the ceremony and a bridal hostess (Linda), and they are GOLD! Both were so helpful and made the day so easy for me! Everything from the food, the venue, the rooms, all of it, can be attributed to a great staff who truly cared that we had an incredible day. Highly recommend for a unique experience.

Our guests had so much fun and loved the experience at the Wayside Inn. This was our fourth venue we viewed and after reviewing the grounds, having an amazing meal and reviewing costs, Wayside exceeded our expectations. Melissa and Michelle worked with us to make sure we stayed within our budget, were very flexible regarding setting a date and made us a timeline that made each step of the wedding planning a breeze.
We definitely had a rowdy crowd with us the day of the wedding and the staff was amazing with making sure everything was perfect! All of the staff were so kind and available for anything we needed (our hostess Linda was AMAZING!!). Everyone had so much fun and still are telling us what an amazing day it was. Thank you so much to everyone at the Wayside Inn for letting us have a dream wedding that we were able to enjoy (minus not being able to eat that much because we were busy having so much fun!!).

What a breathtaking venue! I worked with Michelle from the Inn from start to finish during the planning of my wedding, and she was very easy to work with. They have a fair number of guidelines, but all of their policies were provided upfront. Michelle and Melissa encouraged me to email with any question or concern that came up, and were both very prompt with their responses. Linda was the host during the reception, and was wonderful as well. She brought mini plates of hors d'oeuvres us and the wedding party while were were taking pictures so we wouldn't miss getting to taste any. At the end of the night, they boxed up the top tier of our cake for us to take home. Linda really made sure everything ran smoothly. I had my ceremony in the Martha Mary chapel; totally worth it! It was gorgeous. Michelle (a different Michelle) was in charge of the behind the scenes details for the ceremony. Her attention to detail was very impressive. We also rented the horse and surrey and it really added that special something. Overall it was a great experience! Unlike the venue for my sister's wedding, the staff at the Wayside did everything they said they would do. Very easy to work with and accommodating. Picture perfect! The staff really know what they are doing and I truly felt they were there to make make sure I had everything I needed. I definitely recommend them!

We were so happy the Wayside Inn was available on September 5th for our wedding . Melissa , Michelle , ChaCha, Tara went above and beyond & just helped us make this our dream wedding ! They just knew what to do , when to do it .... And it made me (the nervous bride) feel at ease. We didn't want to eat so Tara boxed it up & sent it to our room for us, which was really what we needed that night . The chef worked with ALL of our dietary needs which meant a lot to us , and our guests..... We would defiantly recommend this beautiful historical spot to others .... And already have !

We got married at the Martha Mary Chapel, had cocktail hour in the beautiful garden and reception in the tent. Everything went beautifully, food was amazing, and staff went above and beyond. We had made a sign that broke during transport the day before. The woman in charge of making sure the wedding the day went smoothly, brought the sign home and her husband repaired it so it was ready for the next day. She was so flexible and helpful with everything. We just got the pictures back and they are gorgeous with the chapel, gristmill, and pond in the background.

The most magical place to get married. The wedding staff is amazing and the food was outstanding! We even let them do our cake and everyone raved about it. The best venue in New England.

Our reception at the wayside inn was incredible! Everyone was polite, helpful, and answered all emails in a timely manner. They set up the reception just as we talked about, and it was perfect! The inn itself is so beautiful! We utilized the Martha Mary chapel, and the horse and surrey to make our fall New England wedding perfect! We couldn't have asked for anything more from a venue, and we recommend this place to anyone!

My husband and I recently got married at the Wayside Inn. We would HIGHLY recommend this venue to anyone! The staff was AMAZING. They truly made everything so easy for us. We never had to worry or stress about any details going into the wedding. Our wedding was absolutely perfect... we wouldn't change a thing about it. We can truly say that this is GREATLY in part to the staff at the Wayside Inn. They are very professional, attentive, and trustworthy. They went above and beyond all of our expectations. We can't thank them enough for making our wedding so perfect and stress free!

From the wedding planning to the day of the wedding, the staff of the Wayside Inn was great! Michelle is amazing and so helpful, communication is key and she is so good at it.
Linda, the host for the wedding took care of every little detail and was so attentive with us (bride & groom) thought the night.
got compliments on the food all night and the service was great also, and staying at the Inn for the night was a great choice.

    Thank you so much!

My wife and I had our wedding at the Wayside Inn, because she had fond memories of the area from when she was a child. They handled everything except for the flowers and the DJ, and everything was great. The food was excellent, and everyone was friendly and good at what they did. We had a great wedding, and all of our guests enjoyed it as well.

we had our ceremony at the Martha Mary Chapel, and our rehearsal dinner at the Wayside Inn. I would highly recommend them! They are so professional, and really know everything about weddings! They were so good about responding to phone calls and emails, and everything was so beautiful. guests were so impressed with the venue and loved the food. Melissa was a pleasure to work with. Our wedding pictures are beautiful in front of the chapel and the grist mill. The rehearsal dinner was really speical too. You cannot go wrong with the Wayside Inn!

The Wayside Inn is the PERFECT venue for a wedding! I got married in the chapel and had the reception in the main dining room. The Inn had the exact casual relaxed atmosphere that my husband and I were looking for but still had the professional experience staff. My hostess, Linda was fantastic! She was right where I needed her all day and she followed my directions perfectly when setting up the room! I just wish I could have met her before the wedding day so I would have known who she was and was able to discuss the wedding plans. We stayed over at the Carriage House Inn to get ready and for our wedding night. They provided a free shuttle for us and our guests once the wedding was over. It's a beautiful hotel but had the updated amenities (and a suite) that I was looking for that the historic inn didn't have.

The food was absolutely delicious! It's classic New England home cooked meals so everyone was well fed! We are still getting compliments on the cake too! It was decorated beautifully! I had a different design from what they normally do and the baker created it perfectly! It was exactly what I was looking for and it was honestly the best tasting wedding cake I've ever had!

My wedding day was more than I've ever dreamed! I wouldn't have had it anywhere else! We also had family stay there the week of the wedding and they all say it's one of the nicest hotels with the friendliest staff that they've ever stayed in!
My husband and I will be returning there for years to come to celebrate our wedding anniversary!

The Wayside Inn has been where I always wanted to get married. It perfectly fulfilled my expectations. I was out of town so I had to plan my wedding remotely, and the Inn always responded quickly to my many e-mails. The team they have is great and my day went very smoothly (thanks to Linda). All of guests loved the venue and the food. The only compliant I had from guests was that plates were cleared a little too quickly. I researched a lot of venues, and this was the best value and the nicest setting!

We fell in love with the Wayside Inn from the first time we visited. If you are looking for historic charm and natural beauty in your wedding venue, this is the place to go. The atmosphere inside is warm, rustic, and romantic. There are tons of spots for picture opportunities. We got rave reviews on the food, cake, and staff from our guests. We have been to Wayside countless times before and after the wedding, and always have a wonderful experience with the staff. The wedding planning team made it effortless for us. We opted for the hostess (Linda) for extra wedding day help, and it was well worth it. The horse/surrey was also worth it and everyone loved that touch. We cannot say enough good things about the Wayside Inn. Our wedding day ended up being exactly how we had imagined, and the ambience and history of the Inn really created unique, special memories for us and our guests.

The Wayside Inn and its Martha-Mary chapel provided the ultimate colonial backdrop for our perfect country wedding!

We found the sexton, the hostess and her waitstaff to be nothing but professional and very attentive to all of ours and our guest's needs.

Our reception was held in the Main Dining Room of the Inn. We had 90 guests and everyone was in there very comfortably. All of the dinner courses were perfectly timed, and Linda the hostess was on top of everything. She really did a great job of putting the room together.

The only thing that did bug me were the columns in the middle of the room, which the dance floor was contained within. Sometimes guests were hidden behind the columns, so the photos are going to show half of a guest behind the columns. That was only a minor bug though.

For the beauty and charm that The Wayside Inn possesses, The cost value is an incredible deal! All one has to do is check out the property to see that it is indeed something very special. And the price per guest is in the $40 range! Places with twice the guest cost DO NOT have the same kind of charm that this place has!

We are very satisfied, and hope that we help another couple experience the same here!

Kathy and team provided outstanding service. The tent and grounds made for a beautiful evening for our family and friends. The bride and groom had a carriage ride from the Grist Mill to the Wayside Inn - complete with the children in their bridal party. Our guests said the food was outstanding - Filet Mignon and vegetarian. We had 200 guests and everyone danced all night in the test - uplit by Rafi and outstanding DJ. They do a lot to make it easy for the couple to enjoy themselves. Location is everything.

The Martha Mary Chapel at Wayside Inn is an amazing place for a wedding ceremony. The chapel is very quaint and the pictures both inside and out came out amazing. There is also a Grist Mill and beautiful area across the street where you can take great pictures, but it is open to the public so there could be other brides or just couples taking pictures there. There was another couple there when we went, but my photographer was able to photshop them out of the pictures. Also, unless your wedding is the last ceremony of the day (mine was 5:30pm), you only have 45 minutes from beginning to end so you can't have a receiving line outside of the chapel. My ceremony did happen to be the last of the day, so they let me have an extra 30 mins which worked out perfectly. When booking, you may want to ask for the last ceremony slot if that works for you.

I feel like I'm giving all my vendors 5 stars, but it was a perfect day! Having our wedding at the Wayside Inn made it so special. We really felt like the whole day was so personal and intimate. The Wayside Inn was so New England and was perfect for our families who are from Connecticut and Indiana. We loved having the ceremony and reception at the same place. The chapel is gorgeous and our guests loved the sound of the horse and surrey coming up the brick path way for the ceremony. As we were preparing for the big day we had a million questions, which Sandy had no problem answering. Our guests loved the feel of the inn and the food was delicious! The price also seemed really great compared to other places. If we had to do it all over again, we wouldn't change a thing. We LOVED having our wedding at Longfellow's Wayside Inn!

I am so happy I chose The Wayside Inn for my reception! It is a charming 300 year old inn, just what I wanted. The food was great, and they were very flexible with my ever-changing mind. I used the Martha Mary Chapel for my ceremony which saved on transportation costs. I would definitely recommend the Wayside to other brides looking for a classic, romantic venue.

I loved my wedding. Every bit of it.

We married in the chapel and had a cocktail hour in the garden before dinner. The event was 56 people and was relaxed, comfortable, beautiful and very enjoyable - for all! Just like everyone told me: it will be over so quickly, and it was, but people are still talking about how it was one of the nicest weddings they had ever been to.

My fiance and I paid for the entire event ourselves so I was very budget conscious. I looked into every possible option, I mean... every. After searching for months for the perfect place that didn't give me a finance related heart attack, it turns out that absolute best option was the one place I didn't think to look because I figured it would be out of my reach. I grew up going to the Wayside Inn: birthdays, weddings, thanksgivings, celebratory dinners and dinners to celebrate the life of passed relatives. It would be the perfect spot.

The wedding coordinator was excellent. She assured me that my ideas weren't nuts, that they were completely doable and gave me examples of things that people have done in the past. It helped. A lot.

We did opt for the garden cocktail hours add on which was a bit of a gamble as it is weather permitting. I just crossed my fingers. Luckily, it was a beautiful day and I fully recommend taking this gamble.

We stayed right at our budget of $5,500 and had a beautiful and elegant wedding!

I have nothing but love for Sandy Brown and the entire Wayside Inn staff. Sandy bent over backwards to address all of our needs for the reception, from finding us a hostess to making sure the sauce for the beef didn't include mushrooms. (My husband joked that if the leaves fell off the trees before our autumn wedding, Sandy would be out there with a stapler and a ladder reattaching them.) The food was fantastic, our hostess was attentive and organized, and the waitstaff was incredibly friendly and courteous. It was all budget-friendly, as well.

The half star I docked under professionalism is for the chapel sexton, who was not particularly friendly. She did her job, though, and the ceremony went well, but I wasn't thrilled with her.

    Wedding 2023

We had our wedding here in December 2023. It was absolutely perfect. The Inn as stated to us prior was decorated in every room for Christmas by various town garden clubs in the Sudbury/Framingham area. The Martha-Mary Chapel was picture perfect for the ceremony and our JOP even got to ring the church bell as we exited! The food was amazing and we have already gone back again and its the same in the restaurant. The intimate reception, we had under 30 people, was in the Ford Room which has its own private bathroom for guests and was quiet and tucked away from the other rooms at the Inn. Staff was all pleasant to work with. The entire cost was also very affordable!

The staff at the Wayside Inn were professional, attentive to detail, and flexible. We picked the Wayside Inn as our venue more than a year before our wedding, and throughout that time, everyone in the Functions office was responsive to our questions and always willing to help. We met with the Functions staff four days before the wedding to go over all the last minute details, and their hostess made sure on the day-of that everything was exactly the way we had intended it to be. The food was delicious and the wait staff was very receptive to guest needs. It rained during our reception at the tent and you wouldn't have even known it! Everyone had a fantastic time dancing the night away!

The Wayside Inn was a perfect venue for us - ceremony in the chapel, cocktail hour in the garden, and the reception in the dining room... a one-stop shop for a fabulous wedding! The staff were helpful and the service was incredible. The cost was reasonable and Melissa and her team made us feel like family!

My husband and I loved the Wayside Inn, it was all we dreamed of! Our guests loved the food and how convenient the ceremony in the chapel and reception in the tent were. Because of the venue is a nonprofit we felt it was a great value. Because of the town requirements it couldn't go past 10pm.

I had a private wedding last summer, did not have a big reception. Although we had only 8 guests, they were able to find me a decent private room and Caroline from their reception team contacted me to confirm every detail before the event.
My only complaint was since our room is at the corner and there were other 2 weddings on that day. A few waiters used our room as shortcut through to other rooms. I could understand it would be helpful to have a shortcut when you carrying a heavy tray, and it was not like we were having a formal reception.... So over all, I recommend this historical place if you are the person who wants a cozy and vintage style wedding.

We are so, so glad we went with the Wayside Inn for our wedding this September. As another reviewer mentioned, there was some recent turnover in the functions office, and we did encounter some bumps related to that handoff, but the new coordinator and the rest of the staff were fantastic to us the rest of the way. We had our ceremony in the chapel, followed by a buffet reception in the inn's main dining room, and our guests raved about not only the New England charm, but the food (especially the prime rib - I think I heard more about the prime rib than anything else about our entire wedding!) and service. I was a tiny bit wary at first about booking a venue that had a "wedding package" because I was worried it would be too generic and not as good quality as if we had chosen things ourselves (like going and finding our own bakery for a cake with fancy flavors), but decided it was well worth it not to have to coordinate with a bunch of separate vendors. As it turned out, I was right that it was worth streamlining, but wrong that it would be blah -- everything still felt very warm and personal, and the cake from the in-house baker (to provide one example) was fantastic - I don't think I've ever had cake with such delicious frosting at a wedding. The functions staff were very good about letting me know where upgrades were available but never pushing or trying to upsell, and were reasonably prompt in sending a refund check when our guests turned out not to drink as much as we had prepaid the bar tab for.

As far as the ceremony in the chapel, the sexton was *enormously* helpful and basically ran our whole rehearsal -- twice, really, since the groom & two groomsmen were stuck in traffic and very late -- since we didn't have our officiant for the rehearsal. I think more than any single person, she set my mind at ease and made me feel comfortable going in to the wedding day.

The Wayside Inn is a beautiful historic landmark. The atmosphere was romantic and elegant.
For years my Mom told me about how great it would be to be married there! The horse
and buggy made our wedding a fairy tale...and the Martha Mary Chapel was adorable.

We had a fantastic wedding reception at the Wayside Inn. The planning process went fairly smoothly, but I felt like the main functions coordinator could have been a bit better at responding to my questions - it seems as though some of my communications got lost in her inbox and my questions/issues went unaddressed for longer than expected. Linda, the on-site day-of coordinator, is wonderful to work with, very professional and knows what she's doing. We only had about 70 guests in the main dining room and it was very comfortable, I would say anyone planning on having more than 90 guests would not do as well here just because it can get rather tight. The venue was exactly what we wanted, and our reception was a huge hit. Highly recommend this reception venue for weddings on the smaller side.

We LOVED having our ceremony at the beautiful Martha-Mary chapel. It was perfect and just what we wanted.
Yes the Wayside did bring in new wedding consultants over the course of our planning, but THANK GOD! We had first worked with Amy who was unorganized, unwelcoming and unprofessional (those are the reasons for the 1/2 stars).
But then we got connected with their new wedding staff Kathy, Melissa and Sandy. These women are amazing and will stop at nothing to make sure you are comfortable, organized and informed.
We also had our reception in the great room and it was wonderful!
Everyone there is super friendly and helpful, I wish I could relive my wedding over because it was perfect!

    Wayside Wedding

I reached out to the Wayside Inn to get pricing & info on the venue. My now husband & I lived minutes away from the beautiful historic land and had many milestones there growing up. I never thought I'd get married in a little white chapel but here we are. Overall we loved our day & we did go with the Wayside obviously but there were a few pros and cons we would like to high light to help other couples make their decision. Firstly, Mark MacKay is amazing, he was the first initial contact I had at the venue & was really there for us throughout the entire process (of over 2+ years) due to postponing & the pandemic & he was so accommodating about everything from our date change to meetings, decor, etc. That being said I did feel like there was no real structure around weddings at the Wayside. Besides the outline of food, beverages & payment and what you cannot do for decor in the chapel I felt like I was the one doing a lot of the planning & outreach to get things done (I realize they are not wedding planners but I did expect a little more follow up). We were super happy a lot of our $ would go back into restoring the inn & we liked the innkeeper Steve as well - we had him officiate our wedding. My biggest problem with this venue is the lack of help for set up at the ceremony. It was not clear to my fiancé & I that we would need to have folks decorating the chapel for us and at first we were told we could go in and decorate the night before at our rehearsal but then someone had a wedding (someone's daughter who worked there) & so our rehearsal and decor planning got messed up). Although we asked a few times about this it was very confusing we were told we would have help and not to worry but then the final time I asked we were told someone would need to do it like a friend or a guest because they needed all hands on deck at the reception. They have a "day of coordinator" too who was very nice but I met her the day before our wedding for the first time & she's only really there to help set up the reception. I feel like there is enough help that I would hope she could really be with me all day doing the things my loved ones ended up doing which took away from my joy. I would have hired extra folks to be runners if I knew this would be the case. I feel like it needs to be more clear either in the contract or in initial communication before booking. I had signs, bows and other little things that needed to be set up at the chapel & my MOHs parents ended up doing it & I paid them because honestly it was such a big help and ask of them when I'm paying a venue so much money to use their space & have their service. I will say the actual settings were beautiful and for the most part the set-up for the reception was right but I provided pictures & I feel like some things were not accurate oh well. I did feel good the day before planning out the seating chart & everything with Mark but I wish I sat my fiancés parents closer I didn't realize what a bad view they had. Another con was my aunt who is handicapped like many guests of the Wayside Inn could not make it safely up the trailor stairs to the bathroom it was a little rainy making it slippery and she can't climb stairs, I don't know if they had a ramp somewhere but she ended up leaving early - if I had known I would have helped her or found someone to help her or brought her inside to the inn. I'm surprised by this since they have so many older guests. Our guests all agreed the food was so delicious that was a pro & the chef somehow whipped up mashed potatoes for me which was super nice considering its not what guests were served ha-ha! I loved it! He also made a special pasta dish for my husband who doesn't eat meat! The cake was so good but I was upset that the venue didn't offer a food or cake tasting...I feel like that's part of the fun of being an engaged couple planning your wedding these little things really bothered me I felt like I got jipped & its such a simple thing that could add value & happiness to clients. Mark was awesome with updating our contract whenever something changed & getting correct pricing for us nothing was really a huge surprise to us but we were a little annoyed we had kept asking to add extra $ to our open bar fund because we decided we would do open bar for beer & wine all night to everyone & somehow the cocktail hour went way over the $1,500 we put down, not a huge deal the DOC told us but we then said ok please tell us if we reach $3k & we were never told. I also wonder if folks were crashing our wedding at the cocktail hour because there were a ton of people we didn't know outside when we arrived to the cocktail hour after pictures we were both confused obviously the inn has guests & dining & visitors but they were in the garden so what was stopping them from getting served free drinks? It just seemed a bit disorganized. During videos the servers were walking right in front of the sweetheart table across the dance floor, I don't mean to sound rude but I'm paying thousands of dollars for videography & they walk in front of the camera during speeches? Its just rude, isn't it common sense to go behind the video? Finally the sextant is my last comment - although very nice to me she seemed super stressed at our rehearsal even though we had the chapel until 4pm that day & everyone was listening but she was kind of rude very bossy like there is a polite way to speak to people she was kind of barking orders at everyone and we had asked for the cross to be taken down she actually asked us and we said yeah we don't want it up & they never removed it so its in all of our pictures now which for us isn't a major deal but we aren't very religious & I'm sure anyone who really wasn't would be pissed. Its a non-denominational church too they should really take it down unless someone asks for it. They are so strict about time too we offered to pay more to keep the party going, its a wedding venue & this is the one night we wanted to really party with all our loved ones I get people need to clean up & go home but the timing is so specific you can only have the tent for so long, you need to start the ceremony at a certain time based on that. I don't know for how much we spent I just wasn't 100% happy with what we got. And this isn't their problem but the 1 hotel that's closeby was terrible I will never recommend the Fairfield to anyone, too bad they are the only close hotel. I really think the Wayside should have a devoted team only focusing on the wedding side of things it seems like everyone is spread so thin there, whenever we walked in Mark was answering phones downstairs and running around. I think as a wedding venue there is so much room for improvement that will make it amazing. I still appreciate everything folks who worked that day did for us but I just wish we had some support with the ceremony space. I also think they should work based on first come first served, the fact this wedding was planned over 2 years in advanced and someone's daughter slipped in to have a small wedding during our original rehearsal time & our wedding weekend is messed up, it really threw the entire weekend off. Anyways, I hope if you choose this venue they improve because there really is so much potential & I know the staff are all good people they just need a little more departmental structure or someone with wedding industry experience to get in there.

We had an amazing wedding day the Wayside! Our ceremony was in the Chapel, cocktail hour in the garden and reception was in the tent. The food was delicious. I loved everything from the apps to the main course - it was all delicious. I'm not much of a cake person myself, it looked beautiful and tasted good. Overall the catering aspect of the venue was great! I do wish they allowed a food tasting along with the cake tasting though.
Our day of staff was great to work with. We had Cheryl as our day of coordinator and she was amazing! Super accommodating and helpful. She made sure everything was set up the way we wanted and was very attentive the day of. She did a great job! We had also met with Tara, another day of coordinator, who was super helpful. She answered a lot of questions and went out of her way to organize and take notes about our reception set up to make sure everyone was on the same page. The ladies on the day of were just fantastic! We felt that we were in good hands!
Planning the wedding with the function office staff could have been smoother. I felt that some of our requests were met with confusing responses and answers that were not very accommodating or tactful. (Especially when Tara and Cheryl didn't bat an eye when we asked the same things of them afterward.) My husband and my parents felt that at times, it was difficult to get a clear answer about things like our open bar and other details about the day. Thankfully, once we met with Tara and Cheryl we felt much better about how our day was going to be handled.
Overall, I would still recommend the venue. The grounds are just gorgeous and its the perfect place for a classic New England wedding. The tent is beautiful and I can't wait to see how our pictures come out that we took at the Grist Mill and Chapel with our wedding party. Our guests raved about the picturesque setting.
Overall the day was perfect and we were happy with our choice in venue.

I first have to say that our wedding day went seriously perfectly. The hostess Linda that the venue assigned us was incredibly helpful and very kind. The set up we had chosen was all there, everything in our contract happened as promised, our guests had an awesome time, and the outdoor grounds (including the Grist Mill, and chapel) are really nice for photos. The food was good. Also they made our wedding cake and it was absolutely delicious and looked very pretty. As far as wedding venues go, it's also on the more affordable side.
My wish is that the planning process was as smooth as the actual day. I found it difficult to work with the two event planners. The very first meeting with one of them, my parents and fiance sat down to get information about the venue, pricing, etc. I left wanting to cry, and feeling like we were inconveniencing them asking questions about the venue. The reception in the inside dining room ends at 10 sharp, and we wanted to continue celebrating afterwards so we asked if the very cute bar in the front would be open for wedding guests to use afterward (at this point we were considering renting out the whole inn for our guests and us to stay overnight). We were told that since our guests would have had access to alcohol for 4 hours at that point, they definitely wouldn't keep the bar open. What? Just one example of something that could have been delivered in a more tactful way if they weren't willing to bend on the bar hours.
Anyway, while the process was a struggle at times, the final product was really great.

    Great venue, coordinator sucks

The wayside inn is a magical place to get married. It was one of my most favorite places to visit. I loved the history, the fiddle band, the smell of one of the many fireplaces. My family had a wonderful time exploring the grounds and taking in the beautiful and charming Massachusetts scenery.

The Chapel: The chapel is lovely and picturesque. Additionally, Michelle the sexton was flexible, understanding, and organized.
Food: The food is the same as the restaurant and is delicious. The cake (which is not something they offer at the restaurant) is absolutely superb. Even the vegan meal was great and we had about 10 at our wedding and they had many compliments.
Staff: The bartender Marvin was especially kind and his banter really hit it off with our guests. The staff was handling the fact that they were doing two weddings at once extremely well and our waitress the next morning stated that she had worked the previous night. That is some extreme dedication.
The reception: The staff did an an incredible job making the reception area look beautiful. They executed the décor flawlessly and the attention to detail was noticed.

    What didn’t go well:
Mark Mackay is the wedding coordinator at the wayside inn is extremely difficult to work with. I understand that we were having a wedding as we are coming out of a pandemic, however there are some situations where Mark straight out lied to our faces. His haughty nature makes you feel like you’re the idiot in any and every conversation you have with him. For example:

    (1) Mark assured us that (a) our wedding was his first priority and (b) that the only other event that would be held on our wedding day was a memorial service that would be over before our wedding cocktail hour even began. The truth was (a) we didn’t even see mark once that day even though he wasn’t our coordinator. He could have at the very least introduced us to the coordinator we had (Janice) as we had never met her before. To add insult to injury here, mark was at the wedding in the tent (or should I say memorial service); (b) As I said - the memorial service was actually full on wedding which was something mark said the staff wouldn’t be able to accommodate during normal times let alone covid. Which also makes me feel bad for the clearly overworked staff and lack of planning on his part.
    (2) The “memorial service” was so loud that no one at my cocktail hour could hear the fiddle band I hired. If I had known that was going to happen – I could have gotten a microphone and a speaker from the DJ so we could actually hear them. I wish he had just told us the truth so we could have planned better.
    (3) I pointed out to mark in an email that the contract states “no open flames” He responded that I could bring as many votives as I wanted and no one really pays attention to the contract. Turns out he was wrong again.
    (4) Mark makes times for meetings between Monday and Friday 9-5pm.

If you love the wayside inn as I did. Do yourself a favor and spend the money to hire a wedding planner so that they can deal with the disaster that is Mark Mackay. If he just told us what was actually going to happen we would have been much happier.

We used The Wayside Inn for their chapel. The chapel was fantastic, however their funtion staff was not. We had our rehearsal dinner with the Inn as well. During our engagement, the Inn changed personnel, in the fuction office. I had never been more disappointed in service. The new staff was awful to deal with. Totally unprofessional, and not thorough at all. I got little to no response when contacting the functions office. I was treated rudely, and never felt comfortable. If they did not have such a nice chapel, I would have walked away months ago. The dinner did go off without a hitch, but I will not recommend this venue to anyone, nor will I be doing business with them in the future.

Wedding nightmare at the wayside inn!

My aunt and Uncle had their wedding here on 28 October, and to say it was a disaster would be an understatement. First, they made the wedding on Sunday only because there were supposed to be revolutionary war reenactments all day Saturday - and since it rained Saturday, the wayside decided to reschedule the re-enactment event to Sunday. There were tons of reenactors all over, and all you could hear during their vows was gun fires, drums, and flutes outside and it was awkward. There was also a fiasco with the tables - the bride was under the impression that the space could fit 8 tables, and then a couple days in advance they said no only 6, so she had to do damage control and move it to two long tables last minute.

But then when we thought things could get worse, in the middle of the ceremony the power went out! It got dark and then during “cocktail hour” the bartenders said they couldn’t serve us drinks without power due to Massachusetts state law (we looked this up later, couldn’t find anything of the sort) and they weren’t even nice about it - like “oh well, no drinks for you, not our problem” even though there were literally bottles of wine and cups just sitting there (ever heard of a cash bar??) It was so dark it was a fire hazard and I could have fallen down the stairs - they served platters of cheese and crackers in the dark with no tongs, so we couldn’t even see what we were putting on our plates. They had no backup generator, and were dismayed that we even asked about it. Finally, after 2+ hours of no power, we had to just pick up everything and leave to go to a nearby restaurant that could accommodate a group of 50-ish people so that folks could eat (and drink!) something. The wedding ceremony ended at 12:15pm and we didn’t end up eating until 4pm. It was a major disaster, and the worst part is that the wayside inn staff wasn’t even nice or apologetic or accommodating about it (no one brought out candles or flashlights when they power went out -they just shrugged and walked away!)

Brides beware - do not book this as a wedding venue.

Every since I was a little girl I knew I wanted to get married at the Wayside Inn. I was engaged for 2 hours when I called to reserve my date. The whole year leading up to my wedding I was so excited and wanted everything to be perfect! When talking to Melissa the event cordinator I got an extremely cold feeling about her. When my parents and I went to go meet her the feeling because stronger. She seemed like she was listening to my wishs, ideas and throughts but when it came down to it none of my wishes came true. The tent itself was BEAUTIFUL! the Food was amazing!!! and the wait staff is amazing!!! But the events office team is GOD AWEFUL!!!!!!!!! All I recieved from the events staff was attitude especially when I called them out after my wedding. They HOSE you here and don't respect brides wishes Their time management is NOT acceptable for the big name facility that it is. They also threw out some of my centimental belongings without even asking myself or my parents. Again the resteraunt is amazing, the waiters and waitress' are amazing but the cordinators stink!
