Incredible!!!

Hiring Laurie was one of our best wedding decisions! She captured so many special moments and we couldn't be happier with the results. We loved her focus on taking natural, rather than overly posed, photos. It rained horribly on the day, but Laurie was ready with a Plan B and the pics turned out amazing!

Great engagement photoshoot in Central Park

The perfect fit

Laurie did our engagement photos as well as our wedding. She was a perfect fit for us. Great experience!

Laurie was a true professional in the planning process, and spent ALOT of time discussing potential photos with my fiancé and I before the event. Engagement Photos

I contacted Laurie to take photos of my proposal to my fiancée, Desirée. Laurie was great, visited the site before the proposal, talked me through the best locations, etc. We also had long conversations about the style of photos I was looking for, if there were specific shots, and so on to make sure that I got the best experience possible. The day of the proposal comes, and of course unexpected issues arise with the location. Laurie didn't panic though and was able to quickly find a new spot for me to propose. The pictures turned out beautifully and are my favorite pictures of me and Dez. I cannot recommend Laurie enough!

A true rock star

Laurie was flexible, helpful, professional, and most important of all, really good at taking photos. She worked with me on a surprise proposal to my then-girlfriend and on top of capturing the exact moment, she had the awareness to corral assistance from random tourists and park-goers at Central Park to ensure the spot we had settled on for the proposal and photos would be available and free of crowds. She is quick on her feet, receptive to suggestions and knows how to incorporate your wishes into great photos.

Amazing Proposal Photos

Laurie was perfect for helping plan a total surprise engagement in gramercy park, where she pretended to be an event hostess to keep the surprise going. She was able to capture the surprise as well as the actual proposal and the after photos to celebrate. An artist and a professional

Laurie was a joy to work with every step of the way (and as our wedding was postponed a year due to Covid, there were some extra steps!). She is a gifted artist and a total pro. The literal best

Laurie was sooooo fun to shoot with and incredibly easy going. We wanted documentary style (less posed) more fun and us and she made that possible. My fiancé loved her too. We were so obsessed with our results and got so many compliments on how authentic they were.

Wonderful, kind, intimate

Laurie was hugely flexible, professional, comforting, and fun during our wedding day shoot. The photos are natural and beautifully lit, just as we'd hoped; she completely understood what we were looking for, and executed it to a T! We had our wedding outdoors in Central Park and, because of the pandemic, there were just two guests—everyone else Zoomed in. Despite that change of plans, Laurie managed to capture the happiness of the day, and did it extremely safely. She even got photos of my husband and I "with" our parents on the zoom screen! She was lovely to work with and I'd absolutely recommend her to others.

Beautiful photos, even better service

We hired Laurie to photograph our September wedding prior to the pandemic. Despite our plans changing (drastically smaller affair) Laurie was flexible and easy to work with throughout. Our wedding ended up being very small (less than 20 people total) but Laurie and all of our guests felt so comfortable with her there. She was unobtrusive but still got all the amazing shots we wanted. She took all of the proper safety precautions and worked with us to ensure our and our guests safety. Her work is documentary style and very natural- neither my husband nor I are super comfortable in front of a camera but she made us feel relaxed and really captured our relationship and love in her photographs. She also managed to get many wonderful photos of our family/friends, decor and our venue (a house were renovating). I feel like she got every aspect of our special day. I would highly recommended Laurie for any event and will hopefully be able work with her again (not for another wedding of course-just other events :) ).

I can’t say enough about Laurie. First the pictures she took are just wonderful. And so is she! Laurie has the perfect balance of knowing when to stay in the background and when to be a bit more assertive and in a bustling and confusing wedding that’s so crucial. She even stepped in to help us manage our videographer (who did not have that balance) and we were so grateful. She just made the whole experience of working with her seamless and joyful. Professional, experienced, great eye, unobtrusive

Laurie was so easy to work with and got our style, which was pretty low key casual. Impressed she scouted potential sites the week before the wedding to see what the light would be like. We shot at five or six sites at her suggestion (all in close proximity) so we have a variety of backgrounds to choose from. 30 in my immediate family and even the group shots came out great. We loved the posed and casual shots and the black and whites were among our favorites.

Amazing Photographer

I hired Laurie to film and photograph our proposal. I was looking for someone to capture my proposal to my then girlfriend. Someone who would capture all of the emotions of this special moment in our lives so we can share with our family and friends. The entire experience working with her was extremely positive and I am very happy with my decision. Laurie was very responsive, accomodating, helpful, and friendly throughout the entire process.

I initially found Laurie when researching proposal photographers online. She had stellar reviews on multiple sites and her background in Entertainment was the perfect fit for what I was looking for. My proposal was very unique, so I wasn't sure if she would even be willing to help. While all the other photographers either didnt respond or said they could only photograph or film the proposal, Laurie was more than happy to assist with both. In fact, in her first email she even told me the exact camera equipment she was planning to use for the night! You can clearly tell just how passionate she is about her work! Communicating with Laurie during the planning stage was easy. She was very responsive and offered to hop on the phone to both discuss my initial plan for the proposal and then walk through everything the day of. She also offered some invaluable insights that came in handy during the proposal based on her experiences in the Entertainment industry. The night of the proposal she was on time, texting with me to make sure every step was perfect, and discreetly capturing the moment. She was also able to easily adjust to the situation when a few obstacles beyond our control arose at the last minute. Even after the proposal was complete, she was still very responsive and wanted to make sure we were happy with the finished product (which we really appreciated!). She sent me the film the next morning and the photos a week later. We shared with our family over the holidays and everyone was amazed with her work. She was able to capture every emotion of that evening and our families said they felt like they were right there with us!

Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I would absolutely recommend Laurie to anyone in need of a wedding, engagement, or general photographer. I know it can be a stressful thing trying to find the right photographer for such an important moment in your life, but I can honestly say you will not be disappointed with hiring Laurie for your big day!

Can't imagine anyone else but Laurie taking our engagement and wedding photos!!!

We had our wedding at The Hoxton, Williamsburg on October 5, 2019 and Laurie Rhodes captured it perfectly!! We had 125 guests and after sharing the photos with them, each and every single one of them was blown away on how perfectly Laurie photographed the evening. We had our ceremony and cocktail hour on The Summerly Rooftop and Laurie photographed it flawlessly -- in the bright sun and then with it setting! My husband and I are an interracial couple too, which added a complexity to photographing us but every photo, we both look great!! We then moved into The Apartment for our reception/party and everyone was in awe of how Laurie photographed both the space and all our attendees in dimmer lighting! Indeed, Laurie took the perfect mix of candid and staged photos, capturing all of our friends, family and us throughout the entire evening wonderfully. Stated simply, our guests were blown away by Laurie's attention to detail and letting her take photos seamlessly the entire evening, for which we are eternally grateful to her. Laurie also took our engagement photos a few months in advance -- so she could get to know us and understand us individually and as a couple, what we were comfortable with from a photography standpoint, and what our goals were for the photography for our wedding. And out of that exercise, not only did we get hundreds of amazing, amazing, amazing photos -- in fact, one of Laurie's photos was picked by the NY Times for our wedding announcement -- but Laurie learned exactly what we wanted for the wedding day in terms of photography. And, we cannot think of an easier and better -- and more talented -- person with whom to work throughout our engagement photo shoot, leading into the wedding and on the actual wedding day. We cannot imagine working with anyone else to plan one of the most special days of our lives! She was super, super, super communicative. She offered wonderful and unparalleled recommendations. She was beyond accommodating. And she was beyond personable and sweet -- she made us feel so, so, so special and that nothing else mattered other than us and our happiness and the photographs capturing that. Her attention to detail was beyond reproach captured everything perfectly -- for both us and the guests. We could not have asked for anything more. I would not hesitate for one millisecond in hiring Laurie Rhodes as your engagement and wedding photographer. Lastly, even all of our vendors (wedding coordinator, DJ, singer, guitarist, officiant, events staff at The Hoxton) all raved about Laurie and working with her. Indeed, since our wedding, I know that many of them have already formed strong professional/working and personal relationships with Laurie. Which makes sense, because she's the best! I wish we were able to do it all over again and would highly recommend to anyone that they hire Laurie for their wedding or any other special event.

During my initial search for a wedding photographer, I was looking for someone who not only took beautiful, well-angled, well-proportioned photos, but also someone who was able to capture the in-between moments of a wedding, where you can clearly see the personalities of the people in the photo. Excellent!!! Reliable Service.

We used Laurie for our wedding 5/6/19. She was very professional, on time and made us feel comfortable while taking the pictures. My wife was nervous about the whole process. Laurie, went the extra mile; and gave her some great advise, and made her laughed. That was thoughtful of her to do. The pictures were awesome, editing was perfect not too photoshopped just right. Overall, 10/10 experience, will be using her again to capture more of our life’s milestones.

Laurie is an exceptional professional who walked us through the wedding photography process and supported us from start to finish. We met in a Starbucks and immediately got comfortable, discussing our various options with showcase of sample photos from past weddings, her photography inspirations (if I recall, your first b&w photo of a child and splashing water), recommendations, pricing options, etc. Laurie's love for her work shows and she is the most friendly person to work with. The results are phenomenal, with two of my favorite photos posted here. This is long overdue, but thank you so much for being a part of our special day. We couldn't have asked for a better person.

A professional photographer's photographer

Laurie's photos truly reflect who we are as a couple, and her years of experience are so evident in the quality. Laurie's well-honed eye as an artist is matched by her technical abilities and refined use of them. This, IMHO is one of the most important ingredients to having timeless photos that never look dated; compositions, color corrections, and captured moments that are all spot on and technically top-notch. Laurie is a photographer's photographer, and we were so lucky she squeezed us into her schedule.

Laurie is the photographer you are looking for. Rest assured, you'll be meeting a wonderful person whose kindness and warmth will not only make you and your partner feel comfortable - but all your guests at your wedding day or special event. You might wonder "how will the photos turn out?" Or "will they be special? Will she capture my feelings and all the love we felt on our day?" And guess what ... she will! Laurie's docu-style photography is an art one can't just master by being "good" you have to have that extra sense and appreciation for social connections, interactions and emotions which I know Laurie unquestionably has. Finally, as a gay couple getting married ,we wanted someone who "got us" and understood the relationships we had with various people .. such as our girlfriends or gay best friend or even siblings etc. Laurie got it! Wow, its hard to imagine what I could say to properly explain our experience with Laurie- she was SO amazing from start to finish!! Setting up our initial meeting, she got back to us in less than 24 hours of our initial request - and scheduling with her was a breeze. The minute we met her, we knew she was going to be our pick - her photography is gorgeous, and her aura is incredibly assuring and calming. She was so courteous and professional and would check in with us every few weeks until our wedding day. Laurie was so accommodating, and really made us feel that she was invested in our day, and in helping us to capture it the way we wanted. We took engagement photos as well, and she gave us suggestions on where to go and helped us to feel comfortable being photographed, even though I hate being in front of a lens! She captured the most beautiful shots at our wedding that truly encompass the whole feeling of our day. The photos were artistic and beautifully framed, but more than anything were so REAL and honest - like the personality of each guest was perfectly framed for that brief moment in time. All our guests were raving about her as well, and how great she was! I cannot recommend Laurie enough - a wonderful photographer, and truly a delight to work with!

Laurie was very professional and loves what she does. She set up an appointment to meet me at the venue 1 week before the wedding to scout indoor and outdoor locations to shoot. She also wanted to meet at the same time as the wedding to get an idea of sunlight and shades both indoors and outdoors to plan her shoot.

She arrived a bit early to get situated and photographed the bride in her room prior to the ceremony. She took guidance well to my wedding outline. She took plenty of pictures and we were very pleased with the outcome.

Laurie was the photographer for our wedding on 9/8/17. Throughout the wedding planning and the day of, she was extremely responsive and helpful. We initially met her for coffee and told her about our wedding, what we wanted her to photograph (us getting ready + the whole ceremony/reception) and she helped us develop a plan. Prior to the day of, she actually went to our venue (the New York Botanical Gardens) and scouted out the best places for photos. This was not something we asked her to do. Not only was it a pleasant surprise, it was also a huge time saver since she already knew where to go for the best shots.

Overall, Laurie was extremely professional and the whole experience was great. We got our photos back and we're very happy with the mix of candid shots and posed ones. Thank you Laurie for capturing our special day!

Laurie was the best investment of my wedding! Being an artist and designer myself, photography was one of the most important elements of our wedding. My husband and I were very picky and had a vision in our mind for the style we wanted. We met with a lot of photographers, but when we met Laurie, we instantly fell in love with her work. She was very warm and inviting during the initial meeting, showed us some of her books, which were beautifully presented, and even shared her personal stories of how she became a photographer. She has a very calm and comfortable presence and that was very helpful the day of the wedding! She showed up early the day of and made sure to keep to a schedule so that we got all the shots we wanted and really eased my stress as well! During the wedding, she really kept herself low key, and took photos without being too invasive. She was very professional and gave some wonderful ideas for the posed shots. Her entire presence was a pleasure to be around and she knew exactly what she needed to do. After receiving the photos, I was completely blown away! She captured moments that I don't even remember from that day! Her capture of the lighting is incredible, even the most difficult nighttime shots are gorgeous. Her photos capture all the intense emotion, life, love and celebration of that day. I'm in love with every single photo, it's really hard to choose what will go into our album! She even took a roll of black and white film for us too. Look no further for a wedding photographer in NYC or even elsewhere, Laurie is a wonderful person with an incredible talent and you will relive your special day over and over through her photos. Having a destination shoot is not easy, especially if the subjects are from different continents and are on a tight budget. As such, Laurie was the perfect choice as our photographer. From start to finish, she was accommodating, considerate, friendly and highly professional. She explained in detail when the best time would be for the shoot, location and even tips on what to wear and what not to wear. Her suggestions were unimposing and created some of the best photos. She is flexible and has a calm and relaxing demeanor which would put any nervous first timer at ease. She knows the locale very well as she took us to spots that were not crowded, yet captured sceneries that were unmistakably NY. Laurie was able to take a wide variety of brilliant and crisp images all within a limited time frame. All in all a great experience!

Laurie is simply the best. During our first meeting with her, Laurie answered all of our questions, with such humor, empathy, and professionalism that we knew right away that we wanted her as our photographer. Even though it was not part of the deal, Laurie met up with the wedding party for a rehearsal in Central Park and then followed us to take some pictures at our rehearsal dinner. The pictures she took of the wedding ceremony and the reception were stunning. They made me laugh and cry all over again by taking me back to the very best day of my life.

Beyond Amazing. From the minute we met with Laurie I knew we were in good hands. As an out-of-towner our stress levels were pretty high. She was calm, encouraging and well knowledgable of the area. She listened to our ideas, helped add and direct and came through flawlessly... and didn't break the bank. We took amazing photos the day before the wedding in central park - she helped corral 100 folks (none of which lived in the city and many had never visited before...) with patience and efficiency. We took amazing group shots and incredible ones of us. We are just starting to get the pictures back and I have no words. She not only captured the spirit of the day, the love between the two of us but she helped create the perfect backdrops, shadows, and lights to take in the beauty of the city and our venue. Laurie Rhodes is a very professional and artistic photographer. We hired her for our wedding in May and are extremely happy with the results, not just of the pictures, but with all our interactions with her. She doesn't just photograph, she tells a story. I love how she captured us and our guests in unguarded moments. Her photojournalism style is so much more interesting than the usual photos you see. She took great pains to balance our photos and get the colors just right. This takes time, and the only drawback is that we didn't get to see our photos until a few months after the wedding. We were prepared for this, however we were chomping at the bit! The wait was worth it. We highly recommend her. It is going to cost some bucks, but better to cut back on something else if you have a tight budget. You get what you pay for.

If you are looking for a photographer that has a great eye and a wonderful sense of narrative for capturing your special day through the lens of a camera, I would whole heartedly recommend Laurie. We were on a rather tight budget, so while I could have found someone less experienced and less expensive, I am glad we didn't. We now have incredible memories that I will last a lifetime. I've printed out quite a few and have them all around the house. They make both of us happy to remember such a joyous occasion.

She was always quick to respond and the process leading up to the wedding went smoothly. On the actual wedding day, Laurie took care of everything. Arriving early to photograph our venue before the guests arrived, she was prompt at meeting us to take pictures before the wedding and effortlessly photographed the wedding, capturing beautiful moments without being intrusive or obvious. Her high level of skill and talent is evident in the quality of the photos that resulted. Her artistic and creative eye allow her to freeze wonderful moments in time. We have just finished putting together our album after sifting through the multitude of options. This process, as the rest, has been smooth and easy. We cannot wait to get our album! Laurie took absolutely the most amazing photographs of our special day. She really captured the mood and feel of the whole day and each guest's personality really came through in the photos. Laurie performed her job seamlessly and we were extremely pleased with the results. She seemed to instinctively know where to be at all times. She was able to blend and mingle among our guests to catch lots of wonderful spontaneous moments. We so enjoyed our celebration and having Laurie's photographic document of it a great way to remember it any time. Laurie's photos centered around people, capturing the very best expressions and moments of the wedding. Before the wedding date, we met with Laurie a few times to discuss the types and style of photo we wanted. She made sure that she remembered names of family members in order to make the family photos as easy and efficient as possible. It took about 4 months for the photos to come back. The samples were neatly organized into labeled envelopes and were made easy to look through. Laurie did a great job before, during, and after the event. We truly recommend Laurie!

You will not find a more enthusiastic, helpful and wonderful photographer in NY! Laurie is totally awesome. Our first meeting was like hanging out with an old friend we chatted for a really long time and we were instantly confident that she would be the perfect person for the job

Laurie is fantastic! My husband and I contacted her, based on a recommendation from the folks at The Upper Crust catering, and general positive word of mouth. We met with Laurie in person six months prior to our wedding, at which time we discussed what we wanted when it came to the style and feel of our wedding photos. We felt comfortable and at ease during the meeting, and left feeling extremely confident that we were in good hands. We contacted Laurie several times in the interim, and she was always quick to return our calls and emails to discuss the details of our special day. About a week or two prior to our wedding, Laurie called us to solidify the specifics of our ceremony, i.e. - order of ceremony, order of entrances and exits, the timeline of the wedding post-ceremony, etc. After that call, we were absolutely certain that our wedding photos were going to be fabulous! On the day of the wedding, Laurie was careful to be present, and capture all of our special moments, while not being intrusive. In fact, this is something that she promised from day one. Laurie made a point to remind us that a photographer that is too intrusive isn't able to capture natural/candid moments. I am happy to say that she was/is right. She has a wonderful eye that is able to not only capture a moment in time, but also convey the emotions of that moment. Laurie really captured some truly AMAZING moments at our wedding. We're so happy that we chose her, and we’re honored that she was ready, willing, and able to work with us. I speak for both myself and my husband when I say that we highly recommend her services!

Laurie is really talented in capturing a lot of movement and emotion in her pictures. She is really good at picking out spontaneous moments to capture that reflect the personality of a person or the feeling of a day. For our wedding, she was really able to capture the emotion and fun of the day by picking the right moments to "click". We also did several "posed" photos, which turned out great particularly since they were not too posey.

It is hard to know how to express how amazing Laurie is. We met her through a friend of ours, whose wedding Laurie did several years ago. This friend STILL, after several years, speaks about how amazing Laurie is and how great the photos are. Our experience with Laurie was a dream. Her work is incredible, (INCREDIBLE!) and the pictures have a realism to them that is hard to believe. She is very responsive and incredibly professional. We had two pre-meetings with her, and both were a pleasure. She did both our party the night before the wedding and then the actual event. She was on time, courteous, and all of the guests loved her. She is on top of everything, but not obtrusive at the same time. When I look at the pictures now, I think "Wait - how did she get that? I don't even remember seeing her." Everyone is RAVING about our photos. You can't go wrong with her, and we can't possibly say enough good things!

Simply put, Laurie was fantastic. She listened to our thoughts/vision for the photos and came up with some great location ideas. But, really, finding nice locations was only the first step (and something many people could do). Once on location, Laurie really showed her talent - angles of shots, spots to stand, lighting, catching neat background elements, etc. And at the end of the process, we received several dozen awesome photos which we'll treasure forever. A great experience - and I'd recommend Laurie to anyone without hesitation.

When I came across Laurie's blog, her wedding photos blew me away. Laurie has an amazing eye. Once we booked an appointment to meet her, we knew we had to have her. Not only is she an amazing photographer, but she is a great person. She spent so much time with us during our initial meeting showing us samples from other weddings and asking us questions, assessing what exactly we were looking for. She is very enthusiastic and seemed genuinely excited to be a part of our wedding. She answered e-mails in a timely manner and always showed patience and professionalism. On our wedding day, Laurie started with our 'first look' photos. She had been to our locations before hand and scoped them out in order to be able to think about various shots, etc. This was great since there was no time wasted during first look. Laurie had a vision in her mind that she created after listening to what we wanted. Once we arrived at our wedding, Laurie carefully worked through the night, but was not intrusive in anyway -- she was our shadow and most of the time we did not even know she was there. It takes a special kind of photographer to be able to work like that. Laurie is a true professional -- talented, kind, courteous, and genuine. She was great with our guests and a pleasure to work with. I will post again once we receive our photos, but for now all I can say is FABULOUS!

UPDATE: We received our photos back from Laurie about 6 weeks ago and we are absolutely thrilled with the result. The photos are beautiful -- Laurie delivered on everything we wanted. Our wedding was captured in a beautiful way and we couldn't be more pleased. Thanks again, Laurie, we would definitely recommend her to other couples!

Laurie was one of the photographers our venue had worked with in the past. I emailed her and she immediately emailed me back her slide show, at which point I was blown away! Her style not only captured the important moments of the weddings she shot, but the individual character of each event. I was particularly struck by both the quiet moments she was able to capture and the sense of joy and fun that came across in her pictures. I called her immediately and we spoke at great length. She told me that the most important thing about any vendor is that you feel that you are communicating and that you trust the person. After meeting with Laurie, my fiance and I trusted her completely. On the day of the wedding (which was about 1.5 hours outside of NYC), Laurie arrived early, prepared and enthusiastic. She had recommended that we take portraits and family photos prior to the ceremony so that we could enjoy ourselves at the reception. We took her advice and were happy we did. After taking what turned out to be beautiful portraits, she encouraged each set of family members to "do something goofy." These ended up being some of the best photos we have from our wedding - they completely captured the spirit of our individual family members and were really spontaneous and special. During the ceremony and the reception, Laurie got amazing shots and managed to make herself completely unobtrusive. Some guests didn't even realize that we had a photographer there! She captured all of the amazing moments that I remember, and some that I had no idea were happening. Afterwards, she was fantastic to communicate with and we received prints and files in a timely manner (with plenty of time to make holiday gifts for family). We loved working with Laurie so much that I recommend her constantly to friends. When our son was born in 2008, we called her to do a photo session with our new family. I cannot recommend Laurie highly enough. Of all of our vendors, she was by far the most professional, honest and thoughtful.

We hired Laurie as the only photographer for our wedding; she was highly recommended to us by Eleanor Ambos, an interior designer in New York City who owns the Metropolitan Building. Laurie was the perfect photographer for us. She was extremely professional in her communication, she listened carefully to what we wanted, she took photographs that captured our wedding perfectly, she was unobtrusive when she was doing it (except when she needed to control a situation in order to get the photo we had asked for), and she delivered beautifully edited and printed photos to us, exactly when she said she would. She is a consummate professional and as such knows that business is not the end-all and be-all -- she was engaging and friendly and genuinely interested in collaborating with us. As an editor at a professional photography magazine, picking a wedding photographer was not easy. Out of all the photographers I contacted, Laurie was responsive, answered all my questions and above all her work is fantastic (and I look at wedding portfolios all day for work!). She always took the time to answer all my questions, spent time with us wanting to know what shots we wanted and she always emailed and called when she said she would. The best part is that the day of our wedding, she was always with us without intruding. I never had to look for her and ask her to take pictures. She was there, ready and anticipating what would happen. Now that we've gotten back our images, the quality of her work speaks for itself. Laurie captured how our friends and family look and how we act as a couple. She made us remember all the great moments (since it flew by!) all without intruding on our special day. I would highly recommend contacting Laurie if you want a top notch professional shooting your day. Trust me, no one remembers what the cake tastes like, but everyone will see these images.
