Professional, Efficient and adapts to crowd

To start, Joe was a breath of fresh air in a stressful time. From the beginning he was professional, gave excellent tips and recommendations for the timeline and even for other aspects of the wedding. I am the sister of the groom organizing and coordinating the whole wedding and he really helped make this day special. The bride and groom danced the entire night until the very end because he followed their wishes exactly as asked. OUR FAVORITE PART: was that he was unassuming and subtle with carrying out the timeline. He didn't try to be in the Mic unless needed, making sure the bride and groom were center of attention and not him. Yet, he still managed to get everyone on the dance floor without being cheesy! the bride, groom and I highly recommend him. He also worked great with the vendors! Thanks Joe!!!

Truly Unbelievably Good!

Joe was amazing! He asked for some thoughts on what we liked and absolutely nailed who we were and what we were looking for. His music was completely on point at every stage of the wedding, even at times where we didn't think of tunes.

Utterly professional, easy to deal with and very subtle. I can't recommend him highly enough, people were talking about this wedding for weeks afterwards (actually they haven't stopped so far and it's making me wish we had a reason for another party (with Joe doing the honours)).

Seriously, he captured our tastes and the flow of the wedding and the people perfectly. I really can't recommend him highly enough.

Fantastic wedding DJ!

Joe was a total class act. He was referred to us by our wedding planner. After a short conversation, we hired him on the spot.

Joe was very personable, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable. He worked with us and our family on a unique venue setup. We spoke to him on the phone about our song selections, which he was happy to accommodate.

Joe kept the party going all night with a wide variety of our favorite songs from R&B to Country and Classic Rock. We gave him a list of our favorite songs, and he filled in the rest seamlessly. His song selections were outstanding! Look no further for a central coast wedding DJ - we highly recommend using Joe.

Joe was a pleasure to work with since he had so much experience he was able to swiftly grasp our wishes and sensitive enough to gauge the mood of our reception and make song selections based upon this. A total pro!

We hired Joe for our wedding in San Luis Obispo (September 2018). Joe was incredibly professional, classy and the perfect choice for a fun wedding. We mostly gave him general ideas and music genres for the cocktail hour and reception, and he knew exactly what we wanted. Our guests raved about the song selection, which contributed greatly to the mood and energy of the celebration. Joe also provided the audio equipment for the ceremony. We didn't have a single glitch or problem with the microphones. The audio was flawless. We highly recommend Joe to anyone seeking a professional and fun DJ!

Joe is an amazing DJ. We wanted people on the dance floor and the dance floor was full until the lights had to come on. Joe was great to work with, he didn't play any of the songs we didn't want, he played our guests requested songs, and we danced all night. Highly recommended!

Joe is the best there is and he is truly so much more than just a great DJ! We could not have pulled off our wedding without him. He has such a keen eye for literally every detail of the day and he helped us tremendously when it came to location of events, timeline, and setup. We had the pleasure of having Joe be our wedding DJ in June 2018 and we can’t recommend him enough! He is very professional, amazingly helpful, and understands the wedding flow very well. He took our song suggestions and created a great playlist that set the mood perfectly for each part of the evening. He was able to get our guests up and dancing and he wasn’t an intrusive MC. Joe was a fantastic DJ, host, and MC for our wedding! He listened to our requests and made our special day truly feel like it was all about us. He let us provide a list of songs to inspire the mood and he took it from there creating a great playlist from the time guests arrived all the way up until the time music had to be turned off. There were a few not so popular songs we had requested and Joe had the exact version we wanted. There was even a song that we wanted just the opening acoustics to for our unity ceremony, and he looped it perfectly and seamlessly. His mics worked well and were very easy to use and hear during the ceremony and reception speeches. He worked as a team with our coordinator and our guests had a really great time on the dance floor. The only thing we would have done differently is request an announcement at the end that we were leaving. We didn't have sparklers or any toss extras for our guests, so we told Joe we weren't doing a formal send off, but we did have a get away car and should have announced to our guests that we were leaving so they could say goodbye. That was our fault though - not Joe's! With all the hustle and bustle leading up to the big day, we didn't consider this to be a formal send off, but in hind sight it really was. Just a note for future couples. Everything else was perfect though and we give him 5 stars! :)

We are so happy Joe was a part of our big day! He made the planning so simple and easy. We had live music for the ceremony and father/daughter dance. Would 100% recommend Joe!! He was incredibly helpful leading up to my wedding, providing valuable insights and suggestions that were much needed seeing as how I didn't have a separate wedding consultant to help me. Joe did an AMAZING job! We gave him a list of some songs that inspired us and he executed perfectly, the music he played was absolutely perfect for our wedding. There was always people on the dance floor enjoying the music and he read the crowd perfectly and made everything flow. Joe at LaBarbera Sound was not only a total pleasure to work with for my wedding, he was professional and provided great recommendations while allowing my preferences and desires heard/implemented. He is all about ensuring the guests have a great time, and kept most everyone on the dance floor the entire night! He knows how to read a room - something that SO important to gauge what's appropriate and when - while also keeping us on schedule, working seamlessly with our Coordinator/owner of the venue so everything went off without a hitch! DJ Joe was absolutely awesome through out the entire wedding process. Our first discussion was very informative and detailed, which made me feel great about how much consideration Joe had for making a special event. Joe brings a lot of experience and knowledge about generating positive energy and definitely was able to capture this for our wedding. He was very helpful at assisting with other vendors during our ceremony and reception and took a lot of the pressure off. We did not have a wedding planner and Joe really made sure any loose ends were taken care of. As far as the DJ abilities he was totally outstanding! We were able to generate a list of our desired music and he made sure all the other music provided really fit in with our party. The sound quality and light show absolutely made for an awesome dance party! When I read all of the other reviews about Joe, I was really impressed. JOE IS SIMPLY THE BEST.

We have attended lots of weddings throughout California, as well as out of State and out of the country. We have used other DJs for business, social events and weddings but Joe LaBarbera, by far, is the best.

Joe is extremely responsive, whether by phone, email or text. He will not keep you waiting, With all the decisions that need to be made when planning a wedding, it's a pleasure to work with someone as professional as Joe LaBarbera.

If you need help selecting wedding sites or other vendors, Joe will help direct you. He just knows what "works" and what doesn't, having played at every possible wedding venue in San Luis Obispo as well as neighboring counties. If Joe says something won't work well, believe him! :-)

Joe is very helpful with music selection for your ceremony, cocktail hour and reception, all of which can be daunting. He has a 6th sense when it comes to "moving things along" and is brilliant when you need a change up to get people on their feet. If there is a lull in the evening, Joe will get the party jumping. My daughter's recent wedding was smaller, with about 80 people. Sometimes, with a smaller wedding, it's hard to bring the crowd to the dance floor. Not with Joe. We danced all night, young and old alike; even my 8 year old grandson danced until he dropped! Joe isn't just playing music; he's watching the crowd and helping to keep everyone happy.

When I mentioned that Joe is "professional," that includes the clothes he wears; there is no T-shit and jeans for this guy! Joe LaBarbera is all class and has a terrific, warm personality. You will not be disappointed; don't hesitate to hire Joe LaBarbera. He really is simply the best!

Joe LaBarbera came highly recommended to us through a family member who hired him for her wedding. I knew I was in great hands when we hired Joe for our November 5th 2016 wedding at Robin's Restaurant in Cambria. Joe LaBarbera was extremely professional and helpful through the music decision process. He was very detailed and to the point when we discussed the music timeline, which really helped to ensure the music & cadence of our wedding was met.

Joe supported our outdoor cocktail hour & reception perfectly to our requests and was extremely timely with song choices to keep the older crowd happy earlier, while keeping the younger guests on the floor for the entire night!

I was extremely pleased with the way Joe worked with the other vendors at our wedding. His professionalism and fun hearted spirit makes working with Joe a flawless experience! He took leadership head-on by fading out certain songs which were too lengthy, as well as keeping me in the loop so I always knew what to expect next! I never felt like I had to to take control of the party because Joe had it handled all night! Joe has the perfect ability to take charge, while lighting up the party!

All of my guests raved about the music & the party atmosphere that Joe created!

We had a very specific vibe that we wanted to our wedding and Joe Barbera "got it". It got everything we were wanting to achieve and he did it very much from behind the scenes. He was never obtrusive but always there when we needed him to cue the music. Joe was very quick on his responses and everything we asked was "no problem". Best of all he blended right into the "party". He could just as easily have been a guest as a paid vendor. He had no issue at all performing at a gay wedding which was a huge positive for us. With his strong voice of authority he was able to announce clearly what was happening next and the guests listened. If you want someone who makes planning easy, seamless, and fun, then Joe is your man. Planning a destination wedding is difficult enough, but Joe is local to Pismo Beach and he is willing to go above and beyond. He knows a lot of the other wedding vendors in the area and really made sure that we were on the same page about everything and that there were no questions left unanswered. He is perceptive and attentive and we really appreciated him being honest and providing suggestions (after first asking us if we wanted to hear his input). Come wedding day, he worked his magic, checked in a couple times when needed, but otherwise let us enjoy our day and helped move things along quite nicely. I really understand the value of having a wonderful DJ/MC like Joe who can read a crowd and assist with transitioning the different wedding events with ease. We had SO much fun! Our guests really enjoyed the music and even the other vendors commented about how awesome of a party it was. I wish we could go back and relive it all over again! Thank you so much Joe!

When my first daughter got married back in November of 2015 we hired Joe to be the DJ of this special event. When we sat and talked with Joe he was very upfront and honest with about every aspect of the wedding. He did a phenomenal job the evening of her wedding. He kept everyone dancing the entire evening and kept us on time to a tee. I recently had the opportunity to be at a wedding that Joe DJ'ed. Joe was absolutely awesome. My wife and I had a wedding in Arroyo Grande at Peacock Farms and this was a destination wedding. We contacted Joe over the phone for a majority of the planning. He even returned our calls and communicated with us when he was out of state on a ski trip. When we finally had a face to face meeting with him he explained a lot of "attention grabbers" to try and avoid. By this I mean things that take the attention away from where the focus should be. These were all great suggestions that were spot on. Day of the event he was extremely flexible with what we needed for the day. Another nice thing is that he calls it how it is. I made a couple requests on the wedding day and he was more than happy to do anything we needed. He also gave advice (Joe has done a ton of weddings) on what has happened in the past when certain requests were made. Joe was soooo right in all of his diplomatic suggestions. He was more than happy to do ANYTHING we wanted but was very friend like in offering suggestions. He made it very clear that his focus was to make our wedding as perfect as possible for us. Between him and our day of planner our day was perfect. If we had to plan our wedding again would we choose Joe again?.........Not only yes but HELL YES!

Joe was an amazing DJ! We were so impressed with his attention to detail that we booked him during our first meeting. We are so glad we did! Joe communicated regularly with us throughout the planning process. He always replied promptly to emails and phone calls. He gave us useful information and even went to our reception site ahead of time to make sure he would be prepared. Joe gave us very helpful input on room seating and our wedding timeline. His input gave us a realistic idea of how long events would take and made our day go smoothly.

Our reception was very successful and we give Joe all of the credit! He went above and beyond as a DJ by coordinating the grand entrance, advising us on times to meet & greet guests, and staying in close communication throughout the reception. Our guests gravitated toward the dance floor and were so impressed with the music selection. All generations were dancing and having a wonderful time! Joe is a true professional. The flow and overall feel of the event is very important to him, he will make sure you & your guests feel comfortable and have a wonderful time. I really can't say enough wonderful things about Joe, it is rare to find a DJ that will care this much about your event. Make sure to book him and make your event a true success, it really DOES matter to have a professional DJ.

Joe came highly recommended as a DJ, and it is easy to see why. He is very experienced, therefore highly professional and made sure the wedding ran smoothly, but he is also hip enough to keep the party fresh and make sure guests stayed engaged and had a great time. He did a great job of incorporating our suggestions/likes/dislikes in to the playlist, keeping the party going nonstop. Not only did guests have a blast dancing at the wedding, they still comment on what a great DJ Joe is. Highly recommended, you will not be disappointed!

Everyone loves DJ Joe and gives a glowing review. As such, it is hard to write something that sounds different or adds a new angle from everyone else. But here goes...

We hired Joe for our recent wedding at Santa Margarita Ranch. From the start, Joe was communicative. He fosters the sharing of ideas and he wants input. What we really liked about his style is that he is not afraid to come back with better ideas. We work for an employer where we are trained to always be positive in expressing diverse opinions; Joe could teach courses for our employer. Any time he saw a gap or knew something else would work better, based on hundreds or thousands of events he has worked, he would push back with the lightest of touch and in the most deft of manner. Yet once he speaks and explains why he sees things the way he does, you end up going with it. So if we could give advice, aside from hiring Joe, it would be to listen to him and heed his advice. His recommendations for our wedding worked perfectly. He does this for a living and he knows his game. He is awesome. People had a blast at our wedding, and much of the credit is to Joe for the collaboration with us and our other vendors from the start.

The other thing that stood out was his positive persistence. Let's just say that my husband's family, while fun, does not dance or cut loose. As the reception dancing started, those who already loved to dance danced. My husband and I watched Joe and had to smile as he was confronted with people who refuse to dance even when the music and vibe is great and perfect. By the end of the night (sooner, actually), the dance floor was the only place to be. He rocked it, as we knew he would! There were epic dance offs. It was so fun!!

Joe loves his trade. He presents well. He moves the party and the event. Hire him and you won't regret it.

Joe did an outstanding job. He was recommended by my venue, so that was already a good sign! And then my personal experience made me realize why. We got all of the details taken care of ahead of time and everything ran smoothly and stress-free. He was great at giving me advice and ideas of what usually works best, but ultimately I always felt and knew that it was my decision. (Which I always followed his advice, and I am glad I did :)) My dad was concerned about the music, both him, and my groom and I, wanted it to be conservative but still a lot of fun. Joe did a great job in playing music that had every age group on the dance floor. The music as well as the vows, and speeches were heard perfectly. I would highly recommend him. :)

Joe was the absolute BEST! He was so fun and so great to work with. Joe did an AMAZING job on our wedding. We are both musicians and wanted the music at our wedding to be perfect, and I am so happy we went with Joe as our DJ. He was so easy to coordinate with beforehand and gave us wonderful advice. He listened to what we wanted, but was not afraid to share his expertise and give suggestions, which we really appreciated. He was very accommodating and was always checking in with us the day of the wedding, and even helped out with an emergency with a family member. The guests loved our music and everyone was dancing the entire night. I would highly recommend Joe to anyone living in the area looking for a DJ. He really is the best!

I cannot say enough great things about Joe. He was recommended to us as the number choice for a DJ by the Dana Powers House so we felt lucky to book him for our wedding. He is kind and responsive and very professional. But most importantly, he really listened to what we wanted. For us, music was one of the most important aspects of our wedding and we spend a lot of time putting together playlists. Joe went over them with us and helped us figure out what songs would work best in the context of the night. He knew how passionate we were about the music and while we gave him some room to go off of the playlist, he really stuck almost entirely to what we asked for and it was an absolutely fantastic night. Also important to mention that he kept the night moving with simple, necessary announcements. Other than that, he let the music speak for itself. He was wonderful and we are so grateful to him for making it the best wedding ever.

We had the pleasure of working with Joe on our wedding last month (August 2015). Joe was an amazing DJ! His music was fantastic, and he truly understands the crowd! My husband and I just got married in July and Joe did the music/MC for our wedding! Jamie Strand our coordinator recommended him, and I am sure glad she did! Joe was great! He was so easy to communicate with and got back to me very quickly. He did a great job explaining to us how everything works and walking us through the process of creating lists for him to work off of for the wedding! He did such a good job using our song requests as a guideline for the wedding music and it was exactly what we wanted! He had told me the day of the wedding himself and Jamie would come up with the best spot to do our grand entrance, I was a little unsure about not already knowing before my actual wedding day where we would be coming out from. But it turned out amazing and was the best possible way to do our grand entrance, he really is a professional! To anyone out there considering him, I would give him two thumbs up! My wife and I didn't know where to start with finding a DJ. Luckily many of the venues we looked at recommended a few to us and Joe was always on the list of top DJs. He is very professional. Since music is a big part of Matt our relationship, I knew that the DJ for our wedding had high expectations to meet! That being said, Joe was by far the best DJ that I have ever had the pleasure to dance to! He did an amazing job at our wedding! Not only did he ask our input into what songs we would want to hear on our special day, but he exceeded our expectations. He provided the music for our ceremony, which was absolutely perfect. DJ Joe was the absolute perfect DJ! He played the PERFECT music for our wedding, got the crowd up and dancing and is just a genuine great person. We gave him about 20 songs we wanted played and the songs we did not want, and he created the exact right playlist for the night. He read the crowd and knew when to slow things down and when to pick it back up again. Joe also set up and worked with our friend who was playing acoustic guitar for the ceremony and took care of everything. We knew we wanted a great DJ for our wedding, and were SO happy with the choice we made!

First off we would like to thank Joe for making our wedding so special. We could not have asked for a better DJ. We have been to many weddings and would obviously be most critical of our own wedding. That being said, he was by far the best DJ we have ever experienced. He asked for some music selections that he would use to understand our style and he took care of the rest. The dance floor was full the entire night and people were begging for more when the wedding ended. The sound quality was superb. Each song blended seamlessly into the next one so that the momentum of the dance floor never ended. There was an ideal blend of different genres throughout the night. Joe has great charisma and has a talent for making sure people have a great time. You will be have no regrets if you book Joe for your wedding.

The day we dreamed about for years ended up being our perfect wedding day, thank you Joe for helping make our day perfect! He made sure our day and evening ran smoothly. I have read many of the review on this site and I agree with them all. The thing that I feel is important and what inspires me to write is to that in an event such as a wedding, the last thing the parties want to do is worry about that "one more thin". I want to tell you if Joe is in charge of the music, you do not have to worry about him. He can truly be defined as a professional. He totally handled the reception with ease, class, and efficiency. CHOOSING JOE: In researching our vendors, I asked each who they particularly enjoyed & appreciated working with. These suggestions reinforced the opinions from websites like this. While it’s nice to know customers liked their vendors, there's security in knowing our vendors worked well together. Through all this research, one thing was abundantly clear: Everybody loves Joe. With complete confidence, we went with him.

WORING WITH JOE: The consummate professional. Courteous. Quick to respond. Very friendly. While we hired him to DJ, Joe was available for any question we threw at him. I doubt you’ll find someone with more experience or knowledge, as he proved to us time & again. I capitalize this for extreme emphasis: JOE IS SO MUCH MORE THAN JUST A SPECTACULAR DJ, and by our wedding day, he was the one thing you want from each vendor that you'll forget to have as a checklist item: he was someone we trusted completely. I cannot believe what a great DJ/MC Joe was for our Wedding. We had a barn wedding, and our song requests were everything from classic country love songs to "the wobble" and yet the song flow was absolutely perfect. As an MC, he was such a good presence at the ceremony and reception, and his experience and talent shone. He was so professional, and definitely the kind of person you want speaking in front of a big, happy group of wedding guests! During the planning process, Joe was attentive and helpful, and very responsive to emails. Also, I was really lacking vision for the ceremony songs, but with one meeting with Joe we planned the whole ceremony soundtrack- and it turned out beautifully! We got so many compliments on the dance party at the reception too. Joe came highly recommended from a family friend, whose words were, "If he is available, BOOK HIM NOW. TODAY. DO NOT WAIT". We did, and we were just blown away at how great he was. Now I pass that advice off to you: If he is available for your date, book him today!

Joe was absolutely awesome and hands down one of the best decisions we made throughout the whole process. His value is tremendous, and I really couldn't have asked for a better service from him. From the first conversation we had about ceremony music (in which he played samples because I had no idea just which version of Pachelbel Cannon in D I wanted, and because we had an idea for recessional song but weren't 100% pleased with it) to the last song he played at our reception, it was all a blast. He was fun to talk to, fun to work with, and made our guests tremendously happy. We had originally requested our last song to be a somewhat slow song to temper off the night, but feelings were so strongly party-mode that he threw in an additional last song that simply couldn't be topped. He was such a significant part of what made our wedding great and I'd book him a million times over if I had a million events to plan.

Joe came recommended to us by our venue. We skyped with him and loved his personality. When we told our other vendors that he was our DJ, they were all excited to work with him. Joe is extremely classy and professional, my wife and I are very happy to have worked with him for our beautiful wedding at Hammersky Vineyards in Paso Robles, CA. From the first meeting on the phone, Joe had a lot of good energy, was very interested in our vision and the details of the venue. He is extremely easy to work with and goes above and beyond to make sure your day is perfect.

He showed up on our wedding day looking extremely dapper, ready to handle any and all challenges with a confident and relaxed smile. Joe was one of the best decisions we made.

We had many, many song requests and different genres we wanted to play for our wedding; everything from hip hop to salsa, 80s to rock, Nina Simone, Frank Sinatra and classic Colombian folk songs. Joe was prepped ahead of time with some suggestions but on the day of the wedding he was able to read the crowd perfectly and keep everyone dancing and having fun. The flow of the whole event was just amazing. If you know what's good for you, you'll hire Joe LaBarbera for DJ'ing your wedding. Joe is the truly the best in the business!!

Joe is a true professional and an absolute joy to work with. From our first conversation, he was knowledgeable, warm, direct, flexible - and that was just for starters! Joe went above and beyond at every turn, once recommending local options for other wedding-related items for us, another time helping us pick our first dance song. Most of all in a professional sense, Joe can read a crowd and has an amazing, almost vibrant energy. He was able to work in special requests and multiple genres seamlessly - one observant guest even noticed he'd played some "oldies" early on for our extended families and gradually increased the mix of songs as the night went on. Joe was my DJ for my wedding on August 16th at the Dana-Powers House & Barn in Nipomo a few weeks ago. He was fantastic! When I talked to him to plan out our music, he was extremely helpful and insightful. He had a lot of suggestion on how to make the music flow, or timing, or when to fade the music out during the ceremony. Joe also knew the Dana Powers House really well and knew the owner, so he knew exactly what to do/how to set up/etc. He was a fantastic MC - not awkward at all. Completely professional and he knew exactly what to say to transition to dinner, toasts, first dances, etc. during the reception. We gave him a song request list from our guests as suggestions and he did a great job at adding those in during the reception. The only thing I would emphasize more is playing more current songs - I had told him to add in some "oldies" for the older guests (in addition to current songs), and I felt that he focused more on those than current songs. However, I think that was my fault for not emphasizing that, plus I was running around all reception that I probably didn't notice. Overall, everyone loved him and he really was the best DJ! He kept everyone dancing and there were no awkward "everyone clears the dance floor" moments. We couldn't have picked anyone better! Joe is exceptional!

My wife and I used Joe for our wedding August 23rd in Cayucos. I could not say enough good things about how professional and talented he is. He helped make our wedding the best day of our life.
He was extremely involved in helpful in the planning process giving us insight on schedule and music choice. We provided him with a song list and ceremony songs and he nailed it. The dance party was amazing and everyone commented on how good the DJ was. All age groups at the wedding really enjoy it.
Joe was great as a Host as well. He was heard but not over involved. He was in the back ground but kept the wedding moving at a great pace, just as we planned. He hit all of his cues and even worked with us on some special touches we requested.

I would HIGHLY recommend Joe for any event!

As an Event Coordinator, I frequently deal with vendors of all types, some good and some not so good. Two weeks ago, I had the pleasure of working with Joe LaBarbera and he did an excellent job!! He was always on the ball, very flexible, and moved the music with the tone of the event. He was a great, fun personality and his DJ-ing style reflected that! We are still talking about what a phenomenal job Joe did at our wedding, and we are coming up on our 2 year anniversary. Joe was perfect, he set the tone for the night and kept the dance floor PACKED. He led the charge and kept the wedding moving from start to finish, he coordinated with the catering people to make sure everything ran smoothly, and at no point was he distracting, he spent the perfect amount of time on the mic. The majority of our 170 rowdy guests' were on their feet from the moment the music started to the time we had to unplug.

My wife and I spent a lot of time looking for the right wedding DJ during our planning. Luckily we chose Joe.

Joe was very responsive to emails and calls. We met him twice at his house before the event to work out the details and he gave us some great advice how to conduct our wedding.

He was right on time with his setup at the ceremony and reception so no worries at all.

Our wedding was small approx. 40 ppl which is a challenge since an empty dance floor is awkward! Joe kept everything flowing and really delivered on the big day. Several guests commented that they loved the music.

Overall he did a fantastic job helping to make our day amazing! Thanks Joe!

We were very happy with Joe and, in retrospect, would certainly use him again if we were doing the wedding over. A few things that stood out:
- Joe was very easy to work with both in preparation for the big day and on the day-of. We were able to hash out all the details beforehand with a couple quick phone calls, and Joe had several suggestions/clarifications for things we hadn't even thought of. On the day-of, Joe was easy going, had everything set up on time, and only needed 1-2 minutes to mic the officiant and review the processional schedule, then left us alone to mingle and do photos.
-The music! People LOVED the music during all parts of the wedding. We constantly got comments about how great it was throughout the night. People kept asking us, "Did you guys pick this music?", which humored us because it was very obvious that there was a DJ at the controls. This stands as a testament to how well Joe was able to take our relatively short list of "inspiration" songs and bands and craft a playlist that captured our musical taste perfectly.Bravo, Joe!
-As an MC, Joe has a real talent for feeling the mood of the event and making announcements that are both perfectly timed and delivered yet didn't make our guest feel like they were being bossed around or told where to go. Looking back, Joe played a big role in making each part of the evening smoothly transition into the next part (e.g., cocktail hour into dinner), and I think this really contributed to the overall success and pleasantness of the wedding both for the guests and for us.
-We came up to SLO from LA and initially contacted a couple DJs in the LA area. Joe ended up being much more affordable than the LA DJ's and yet we feel that he couldn't possibly have done a better job, so his services represent an outstanding value.

Bottom line: We highly recommend you hire Joe for your big day!

Joe was amazing. So nice and professional. We got so many comments from guests about how great the music was and how much fun they had. He really knows how to work a crowd and get people dancing. We had the best time at our wedding. He only uses the mic when he needs to. Ive been to so many weddings where the DJ makes things weird and like a sporting event. When I read all the reviews on Joe, I can’t lie, part of me thought, “could all of this really be true”. My wife and I got married a couple weeks ago at the Dana Powers Barn and Joe was our DJ. I now understand what everyone was talking about. Not only was he so friendly, engaged, and pleasant to work with, he made our night truly spectacular. To call him just a DJ is an understatement. He worked all day/night to make sure all of our vendors were aware of the timeline, making sure whatever the next step in events was already being prepped, and he did so gracefully and behind the scenes. And even better, he does it all with a smile! And when it came time to being the DJ, our dance-floor was NEVER empty. He has a rare talent for working a crowd through the music, and hardly ever using the microphone. And then when I had a special request, he made it happen immediately without any hesitation. I am not writing these words because I feel like I should, I am truly writing them because he was that good. Thanks for EVERYTHING you did Joe!

Joe did a great job at out wedding. He communicated well with the wedding coordinator and out photographers on the day of the wedding and helped to make everything run smoothy. He was in the back ground checking in when needed and made quick changes with no fuss. We communicated once prior to the day via phone call. I sent him an outline of the day along with a preferred music list, and all notes were met with no hassel. All of the ceremony and reception microphones and speakers were taken care of with no notes needed from us at all. It was a breath of fresh air to not have to even think about the music at all. Joe was great and we would highly recommend his services.

Joe LaBarbera was great to work with. He offered his opinion and helped select my vendors. He did our beach front wedding ceremony music and then out to our reception venue at the Ranch to set up. Joe is very professional and easy to work with. Our daughter and her fiancée were living in New York, Joe kept in touch with them and put together a perfect evening for them. Our daughter wanted a fun reception and to get people onto the dance floor and keep them there. Joe delivered ! Our guests danced the night away and he knew exactly when to bring it to a close. He gave them everything they had hoped it would be and more. My husband and I are still getting kudos from friends and family as the most beautiful and fun wedding reception they have ever attended. My daughter's mother in law to be booked Joe to be our DJ. I live out of State so the first time I met him was with her, my daughter, and son in law to be. We met at Joe's house to discuss the type of music my daughter and her fiancé wanted at their wedding. But that's not all we discussed. Joe started asking questions about when the guests would arrive, when they would be seated, what were our plans for our guests while the wedding party was taking after ceremony pictures - details we had not considered. Joe is much more than a DJ, he coordinates the timing of the ceremony as well as the reception including the cutting of the cake. I was very impressed with his knowledge, skills, and experience. Joe was absolutely amazing for both our ceremony and reception. Our wedding took place at Flying Caballos Ranch in SLO and Joe made both parts of our wedding memorable and extremely fun for both us and our guests.
He was prompt, extremely professional and a lot of fun to be around.
Our ceremony featured a lot of musical cues which made me a little nervous but Joe executed them flawlessly to make the ceremony very moving and beautiful.
The reception WAS A BLAST. All the guests raved (and continue to rave) about how rocking the reception was. From the very SECOND that Joe started, the dance floor was packed. From the first to the last song, Joe had our guests cutting a rug. He was very organized to with all our "speciality dances" (first dance, father-daughter, mother-son) and got everyone involved and excited about them.
I would recommend Joe LaBarbera to everyone. He, very much, helped make our big day amazing and virtually stress-free. Music is very important to my wife and I, and equally important to the success of our day and, with Joe, we were in the best of hands.

The service we received from Joe went well above and beyond what I was expecting from a wedding DJ!

First, before we even hired him, he took the time to meet with us twice to answer our questions, give us ideas and make sure we were comfortable with him and the process. We couldn't meet face-to-face because we live a few hours away so he met with us via Skype video chat. It was a small touch but it made a big difference.

I was very impressed with how well Joe worked with our venue coordinator and our wedding planner. It was nice not having to get involved in minor logistics like set up, power, etc. He also provided a lot of great advice we incorporated in to the wedding like the best location for our dance floor and the flow of certain events during the reception.

Joe is an excellent wedding host. He looked great, kept us on track all night and was a big hit with our friends and family. By the way, we absolutely loved the music! :-) We gave him very specific directions about what we wanted and he really nailed it. Almost all of our friends and family were on the dance floor the entire night which is not only exactly what we wanted but pretty rare I think. Thanks to Joe the reception was a blast!

Joe was awesome!! We met with him in person to talk through the process, and he made a few great suggestions on ways to get people dancing and keep the wedding party going. He understood exactly what we were looking for, and even recommended a song for the bride's processional, which we really liked and ended up using. Overall, Joe did an amazing job. My son was married 300 miles away and Joe's number was given to me by some friends. We talked a lot over the phone, emailed each other quite a bit. When we met, I was totally at ease knowing that this man would provide the best entertainment at my son's wedding. Joe was the perfect DJ for my wedding! He was so easy to work with: very professional, but very nice and always helpful! You get the sense while talking with him that he just wants you to have the greatest day and he is going to do everything he can to make it happen! We have had the pleasure of working with Joe on two weddings in two years. In fact, when our youngest daughter announced her engagement, we called Joe the minute we had our venue booked! For both of our daughters' weddings, he went above and beyond to make their days just perfect. He is actually

Being a bride who planned my own wedding with a newborn, Joe was extremely helpful. He did two site visits prior to the wedding and corresponded with me via e-mail (so our convos wouldn't get cut short due to the baby). Since we had my brother-in-law play and sing our ceremony music, Joe helped research what we would need to hook up the keyboard/mic to his ceremony sound set-up. Joe was very easy to work with and definitely shows that he has experience at what he does. He was honest and upfront with us from the beginning, but in the most consultative way. Since he has worked at Santa Margarita he definitely saved us a headache on how to set up and the best way we should do it with the amount of people we had.

During the wedding he was very smooth with transitions and made eye contact with me whenever he wanted a signal to move on to the next song. Very professional and you can tell he loves his job. I would definitely recommend him anyone looking for an experienced DJ.

Joe LaBarbera was the DJ at our daughters wedding this past weekend. Our daughter told him she wanted music that would keep the party going and have everyone on the dance floor and that is exactly what happened! He played all the right music at all the right times. We have gone to some weddings where the music was so loud you couldn't even hear what the person next to you was saying. With Joe, the music was loud enough to want to dance and have a good time but not so loud that you could not hear what was going on. The songs our daughter picked for their first dance and her and her dads first dance was done just perfect. I would highly recommend Joe for anyone looking for a professional DJ to play great music and keep your party/reception going on. We all had a wonderful time!

My client hired Joe for there wedding at the Santa Margarita Ranch on Aug.11th...I was the wedding planner, and met Joe for the first time on the wedding day. We talked a bet beforehand and went over the wedding timeline and specifics...just from the phone chat I was positive that we would be amazing. His personality is perfect for weddings, very easy going, and extremely professional....HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS DOING AND KNOWS HOW TO GET PEOPLE UP TO DANCE....

Its hard as wedding planner when clients book vendors without you...in this case I was BEYOND PLEASED....I couldn't recommend Joe enough....he was just fabulous...

We had Joe as our DJ at our wedding at the SLO Country Club and he was everything we could have asked for. Since we are from out of town I handled everything over the phone with Joe. He was very quick to return my emails or phone calls with answers to any questions I had, which made it very easy to plan this portion of our wedding from out of town. We spoke about a month before the wedding where he asked about the details of the ceremony/reception and what type of music we wanted and gave some of his expert advice. Joe had many great suggestions that helped make planning the day much easier for us. Joe even went to our venue to meet with our coordinator a week or so before the wedding to make sure he knew where he would set up for the ceremony and reception. I am so happy that Joe was available to do our wedding! When I first talked with Joe, I quickly realized that we were in good hands. A few months before the wedding, Joe asked me lots of questions about the big day (which in itself was very helpful for planning) and was happy to give me his opinion in any areas where I was stuck. He was quick to respond to any questions I had, and checked in with me a few weeks before the wedding. On the day of the wedding, he was so organized and well-prepared! Joe was referred to us by many of our vendors. We meet with Joe and basically booked him on the spot. I was having trouble with the timeline so Joe helped me come up with a timeline that included everything we wanted to do throughout the night.

The day of the event went so smoothly. The weather was cold and windy and he helped make the decision on moving cocktail hour into the barn. I thought that was very thoughtful of him to make sure my guest were comfortable. He has a huge heart and it shows!

He made sure that Joel and I were taken care of as well. He even gave me his jacket to keep warm!

I will use Joe for any events in the future! I HIGHLY recommend him for YOUR wedding! So professional not cheesy and played all the music we love!!!

Joe was wonderful. He not only was a great DJ, but went above and beyond his duties as a DJ. He offered us advice throughout our planning process, such as the schedule for the day and thought on other vendors, as well as provided a mic for our officiant and an extra amp for our ceremony guitarists at no extra charge. He is cheaper than some of the other DJs in the area, but he is also better! I didn't have to hire a day of coordinator because he (along with Judi of Dana Powers, my photographer, Ken Kienow, and my caterer In Good Taste) kept us on schedule, but in a really natural way. His music choices were great - I felt he really picked up on who we were as a couple and he played all of the songs we asked him to. He was very professional. I highly recommend him.

Joe came highly recommended to us by a family friend, who also happens to be a popular wedding photographer. She told us that out of the countless weddings she's attended and the many DJ's she's worked with, Joe LaBarbera is simply the best! He is great at reading the vibe in the room, he knows when to use the mic and when not to. He will do whatever needs to be done to make sure your reception goes off without a hitch and he will do it all in the most unobtrusive way possible.

Her recommendation was spot on, and we are so glad we were able to get Joe to do our reception! At out initial meeting he basically helped us plan our reception, giving us advice and a basic structure for the night. At the reception he was constantly coordinating behind the scenes to make sure everything went the way we wanted! Our reception would have been just a bunch of people eating dinner had it not been for Joe! He was the glue that kept the night together!

Absolutely one of the best purchases I've made for any event. Joe is incredibly flexible and very professional. He lives in California and I live in New York so planning a wedding in California was a bit stressful. Joe, however, was available whenever you needed him. And he is a great responder through email!!

You get what you pay for and Joe is worth every penny! The reception had such a nice flow; the dinner music was perfect and he had tricks to get my wallflower famly out on that dance floor (with a little help from the bubbly of course!)

Joe was an absolute pleasure to work with! From the beginning he was willing to assist a self proclaimed "OCD" bride to accomplish everything that she was planning for her wedding. When I struggled with getting my timeline finished Joe stepped up and made a troubling task seem effortless. When I questioned when to do "this" and "that" Joe was able to fill in the blanks. Having a successful wedding, as we found with ours, is absolutely dependent on the caliber of vendors that you have the opportunity to secure. It makes it so easy to relax when you have people in your corner who not only are professional and capable, but also implicitly understand your sensibilities and style. Joe La Barbera is one of those people!

Joe was the very first vendor we booked for our wedding this past August. When looking for a DJ, we were so turned off by all the flashy websites and photos of slimy-looking guys in bad suits and sunglasses. Coming across Joe was a godsend! All of his reviews online absolutely do him justice. He is an old-school surfer from an Italian family who makes you completely welcome in his home as he talks about his love for oldies. He is calm and professional and kind-hearted. He even has a natural sense about the dynamics of parties and was invaluable in helping us decide how to lay out our reception for the easiest and most effective flow of fun from hour to hour.

Joe's cheese-factor is zero! It was really important to us that the DJ at our wedding really understand the vision we had for the soundscape at our cocktail hour, wedding, and reception. Joe got it immediately. We wanted a party that would transition nicely from Motown to the Beatles to Cat Stevens in the beginning to Michael Jackson and James Brown and a plethora of carefully chosen dancing tunes towards the end of the evening. Joe understood us immediately and delivered perfectly. Countless people approached us and told us that the music at our wedding was perfect. Even people in the entertainment industry were impressed, and they are hard to please! We were- and continue to be- thrilled with Joe and the friend we gained from hiring him. We would never hesitate to recommend him to anyone needing a DJ and we would work with him again in a heartbeat.

We met with "DJ Joe" for a half hour several months before our wedding and were already extremely pleased with our vendor selection. We gave him a short list of songs and artists we preferred to hear and ideas of what kind of energy we wanted to have at the reception and he managed to surpass our expectations. His explanation on how to spark the energy level of the party with music, event timing, and flow really impressed us. We are so pleased with the service and performance by Joe and have only heard glowing reviews from our friends and family telling us we had one of the best post-wedding dance parties. The music was excellent, people of all ages were crowding the dance floor, and the ceremony acoustics were superb. It would be difficult to find a better DJ for a wedding or any other event. In the words of our best man: "Next song DJ Joe!"

Joe was absolutely fantastic! From his constant communication throughout the process, to helping us find the perfect songs for the garter toss and first dance, Joe was a consummate professional. His knowledge and expertise really shines through, and I'm so pleased we found him!

It was also a real surprise to find out that Joe had DJ'd our friends wedding in Santa Barbara the year before. All in all, Joe is a phenomenal vendor and if he's available for your date I suggest you do yourself a favor and book him ASAP!

Joe was an awesome and very easy to work with DJ, MC, and Host! He was perfect with his timing, transitions, and the sound filled the area we hosted our wedding. His equipment was flawless and truly made the wedding fun and exciting. I did ask Joe to stay later than planned and he agreed, but don't forget there will be an extra charge. He played great music and everyone had a great time dancing.

Joe is a true professional and a class act. He was able to take our small list of favorite artists and songs and turn it into a wonderful playlist that kept our family and friends dancing throughout the night. Our favorite part was when he closed out the night by playing "Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey -- a perfect end to a beautiful day. He kept things running smoothly, ensuring the wedding was a success. Joe is a popular DJ, so be sure to book him early!
