Stunning, Chic, & Timeless Photos to Cherish Forever

We partnered with Karen for our wedding weekend in August 2024, and only have great things to say. From our initial Zoom consultation, it's clear how much passion and pride Karen takes in her work. She and her husband, Frank, make an incredible team and we are so happy that we partnered with them. Karen has a fantastic eye for lighting, and one of the reasons we chose her was her use of both film (her personal favorite) and digital mediums in order to best capture different scenes, shots, and events - it's impressive how many different cameras Karen and Frank had on them at all times! They are both incredibly talented and did a great job of making us feel comfortable and natural in front of the camera, thanks to their warm and calming personalities. We felt at ease with them on what is admittedly a very busy weekend, and felt that this made a huge difference in the final product as well as our ability to enjoy the process to the fullest. They are also very stealth when it comes to capturing photos, seamlessly blending in. The photos we received were absolutely beautiful - so chic and timeless - and we love how they captured all aspects of the weekend. Karen was also kind enough to send us sneak peek photos before our full galleries were ready. Timeless and chic wedding photography

My husband and I got married last summer and we're still gushing over our wedding photos. From the beginning, Karen took the time to get to know us, our vision for our celebration, and make thoughtful suggestions in the process. Day of, her and her husband made us feel so at ease and comfortable in front of the camera, capturing everything while seamlessly blending in. At the end of the night, I remember noticing and appreciating her being there with us the entire time. When we received our wedding photos, we couldn't have been happier. She’s skilled in taking authentic, timeless, and chic images, capturing the essence of our special day. Chic and Timeless

From the beginning of our planning process, to our engagement photos, rehearsal dinner, wedding day and after, Karen Hill has been everything we could have wanted in a photographer and more. Karen's photos are chic, timeless and truly captured all of our events. When I look back on our wedding photos, they have the essence of our day and transport me right back. Karen and her husband were so kind, accommodating and relaxed but managed to capture every shot we asked for. Nothing felt too posed or uncomfortable and her use of film is just above and beyond. If you want the classiest black and white photos of your dreams, Karen is your woman.

cinematic classic style photography

Karen is an absolute powerhouse! She knows how to strike a balance between artful composition and still keeping things feeling natural. I love how Karen lets the story of the day inform her work - she is silently capturing all the most poignant moments and funny moments and romantic moments - but in a respectful observer way. I felt like I could relax and enjoy my day - Karen is going to ensure you get gorgeous pictures. If you want to treasure your wedding pictures forever, invest in hiring Karen! She will deliver. Fantastic results

Karen and her husband were absolutely fantastic at our New York wedding at Bryant Park. They took control the whole process, were totally professional and joined in the dance floor right at the end!! THE BEST wedding photographer!

Our experience with Karen Hill Photography was perfect from start to finish. As a professional event planner, I work with numerous vendors every day across multiple areas. From our first meeting, Karen made us feel heard regarding our wedding vision and executed the documentation of our special day flawlessly. What drew my husband and I to Karen is that her photos capture how special a wedding day is while still looking natural. The photos turned out beautifully and were void of the cheesy staging and sheen that I see in so many wedding photos. They turned out perfectly. Karen executed the timeline of the day perfectly and took so much stress off of my plate. She made it a perfect experience for everyone, even for my family, who are notoriously impatient. She captured a number of unexpected moments, such as taking us to the roof of our wedding venue, which ended up being some of my favorite photos. We had so much fun with her as well! The first look was a moment I will never forget and she made it incredibly special for us. I have worked with nearly 100 wedding and event photographers in New York City and Karen is my favorite of the bunch. I can’t recommend her enough.

We absolutely LOVE our wedding photos and couldn't be happier with how they came out- the photos are everything we ever wanted & more!

The most important part of our wedding day for me and my husband were the photographs, and I had spent months researching photographers after we got engaged. I fell in love with Karen Hill instantly because her photographs are so incredibly unique and timeless. I loved that she primarily shoots with film, and her classic, beautiful images really stood out to me among the sea of photos I’d seen from other photographers. Our engagement portrait photos came out beautifully, so I knew no matter what happened on the day of the wedding, those photographs would be perfect as well. Karen and Frank truly captured the feeling and happiness of our day in every photo. Almost a year and half later, we can’t stop going through the pictures and love being able to relive our special day anytime we look at the photographs. Working with both Karen and Frank was a dream come true and we can’t wait to work with them again someday for family portraits!

The best and most important decision you can make for your wedding

The wedding came and went at the speed of light, like many warned us it might. And with so many things competing for your attention, moments can get lost pretty easily. A good photographer will-- like a good historian-- document the history; but a superior one will tell the story. Karen and Frank told the story -- they (seamlessly, thoughtfully, elegantly) captured its themes, moments, characters, emotions, and nuances with the eyes and unmistakable grace of artists.

As artists, they carefully curated an album that combined timeless, clean, whimsical images with gorgeous high portraiture. See examples below. We often and liberally leaf through our album. When we do, we see artwork that captures the wedding's story, moments, and emotions. Karen and Frank created a gorgeous, living, breathing storybook teleporting us back to a day that felt like the length of a single eye blink.

Jack and I don't remember what we ate. We don't remember the best man's embarrassing college tales, or what the band played -- and with time, you won't either. When you pick a photographer, you pick the steward of life's most precious memories. Amazing wedding photography!

My husband and I loved working with Karen and Frank for our engagement shoot and our wedding! We zealously wanted to write a great review for Karen and Frank after our dream of a wedding and again as soon as we received our amazing photos. However, we ultimately decided to wait for our finished album in order to review the entire experience. The first time we met Karen we knew that we wanted to work with her as she kindly spent quality time with us, showing her magazine worthy spreads in albums from weddings past. Both Karen and Frank later met with us at our venue to become familiar with the space, and communicated periodically, while also setting the wedding day agenda in advance.

The morning of the wedding, amidst all of the hotel production, Karen met with the girls and Frank with the guys in our suites. Both photographers professionally directed while seamlessly blending in with the conversations and groups of friends and family, capturing candid and artistic moments amongst all. Afterwards, we set forth to the lobby of the hotel for the first look (now magically captured in photo) setting the tone for the remainder of the day. Upon arrival at the venue, amidst the perfect winter season backdrop, the wedding party gathered for outdoor photos and Karen and Frank's love of photography shined through -- trudging through the snow and 32 degree weather to get the perfect shots. Karen and Frank helped to preserve the winter themed memory forever — not letting us stop until we captured every perfect moment.

The pictures tell a story from the gathering of friends and family to our first look, the wintery wonderland, beautiful ceremony, dapper cocktail hour and an incredible party with nonstop dancing and wild fun, where Karen and Frank became immersed in the excitement to feel and capture it all. We highly recommend Karen and Frank to anyone looking for photographers that not only love what they do but so well bottle the memories through great mediums (digital, film, color and black and white) into the most wonderful and professional of spreads.

Karen (and Frank) were a dream to work with during our wedding. We had a small family service, a reception, and a later party - they attended and photographed all of our events with incredible warmth and professionalism. I fell in love with Karen's bright, sophisticated style of photography the moment I saw it - and my wedding photos are a treasure. Frankly, we had another photographer shoot a later celebration and I regret it - I should have hired Karen and Frank for that, too. There is nothing that matches their elegance, their service, and their personal touch. Seriously, honestly, truthfully - hire them.

Karen and Frank both have such wonderful talent -- they are true artists in the sense of being able to spot the unexpected, the lovely, the hilarious, the perfect light, and to capture that moment and frame it perfectly. It was very important to my husband and I to find a photographer whose work we loved, who we felt could work well in a number of lighting conditions, and who could tell a story beautifully. All of these were talents that Karen and Frank clearly possess. They have a true understanding for film, for art, for composition and for storytelling. Karen Hill is the perfect wedding photographer! My husband and I spent a lot of time looking for the right photographer to capture our wedding, finding other photographers to either be too frothy and cheesy or too gritty and serious. Then we found Karen whose photos are a perfect blend of artistry and thoughtfulness with ample amounts of joy and light. Each and every shot she delivered captured some special moment - each with beautiful composition, spontaneity and clarity.
Just as important as her amazing skill is Karen's fantastic personality. Leading up to the wedding she was responsive, informative, calm, patient, inquisitive, accommodating... we went through the entire timeline and worked everything out perfectly. And (as I'm sure she knew ahead of time) when the timeline totally got thrown to the wind on the day of the wedding, she was still calm and patient, yet firm and decisive so we got every single shot we needed. She is great at directing group shots in a quiet but clear way, cutting through the chaos of the day. During the ceremony and reception, I hardly even noticed Karen was there, yet she captured the event beautifully, minute by minute. She manages to be invisible yet omnipresent during the event - it's amazing!
We were also lucky enough to have Karen's husband Frank working with us. While Karen was covering the girls getting ready, Frank was downtown with the boys. The guys had great fun taking shots on the roof, doing an impromptu shoe shine photo session, and walking to the church. During the reception, Karen and Frank worked together seamlessly. I would highly recommend hiring them as a team since they work magic together.
I can't imagine anyone in the world doing a better job than Karen and Frank. We just received our wedding album and it's stunning. Karen Hill provided photography services for us during our destination wedding in Mexico. Everything went very smoothly, and we couldn't be happier! We hired Karen Hill for our wedding in upstate New York, and we were thrilled with what she achieved. The outdoor photos, with the fall foliage, were outstanding and so lovely. I would recommend Karen Hill Photography to anyone who wants beautiful, artistic photos. We had a smaller, more informal wedding in New York City and wanted some fun shots on the city streets. Karen was able to capture so many quirky yet gorgeous photos of us with not only landmark buildings but also fun little shops. The fact that there were other people and traffic around us didn't seem to faze or distract her in the least. We ended up with unique photos that everyone comments on. Karen was a real pleasure to work with, and we are so pleased with our photos!

I was a little anxious when looking for a photographer, because you only get one chance at a great wedding photo, but when I saw Karen's website, I knew I wanted her as my photographer. I knew I wanted the BEST photographer in New York for our big day sparing no expense. I was recommended by my childhood friend to check into the photographer she had recently discovered. I was simply amazed at the beautiful work Karen Hill produced. I knew instantly I must have her for the big day! Communication was a breeze; she was upfront with her cost/packages and was familiar with the church/wedding venue. Karen’s passion for art shows through in all of her photos. I fell in love with every shot and the amazing quality of the prints. I simply can’t choose one favorite picture; in fact I change out the portraits several times a year! The wedding book was a huge success; it’s always passed around at family functions with plenty of “ooh’s” and “ahh’s”!
I recommend Karen Hill Photography to anyone who is looking for the highest quality of work for one of the most important days of your life! She has a life-long customer and huge fan who will be using her services every chance I get!

Karen was a pleasure to have photograph my wedding. I am an artist so I was very picky when choosing a photographer, and I put my trust in Karen because of the great things I read about her, and also after meeting with her I sensed a great energy from her.

I am so happy with the photographs from my wedding. She has a wonderful sense of light, the photos came out absolutely beautiful.

She was calm and very good at directing us the day of our wedding. She was well organized, reliable, and is a talented artist. I definitely would recommend her to others getting married or who need a photographer for other occasions.

Karen and Frank beautifully captured memories that will be treasured for a lifetime. They were both so kind and dedicated to getting the perfect shots, most without me even noticing they were there. Karen is a true master of her craft. Her photos not only captured my wedding and our story as a couple - but because her background is fine-art photography, the end product was like flipping through a high-end editorial glossy magazine.

Working with her was also very easy before, during and after the event. She is a pro - very responsive on email, accommodating and detail oriented. As a first time bride - I had many questions and she left no stone unturned. I also didn't expect to be as overwhelmed on my actual wedding day as I turned out to be with pre-wedding/hair and make up jitters. Karen has a very calming/confident presence.

She and Frank did both our wedding and engagement shoots. They are a great team - extremely easy going, creative and super fun to work with! Our engagement portrait session came two months prior to our wedding. It was at Jane's Carousel in Dumbo/Brooklyn. Karen came up with the location, I didn't even know about Jane's carousel, but i mentioned to her that my wedding was whimsical and i wanted that whimsy to carry over into our engagement photos. I had recalled seeing photos of a bride and groom on a carousel in Central Park once. Jane's carousel was waaaay better than i could have hoped Our pictures are set on a restored carousel with scenes of the Manhattan waterfront in the distance. It doesn't get better than that!

Rest assured that you will fall in love with Karen's work. Her photos are compelling, inspired and beautiful. In fact, I loved working with her so much that it was a no-brainer to hire her to take promotional portraits for an upcoming record I am putting out.

Karen was a pleasure to work with. She was willing to work within our budget and made the entire process easy. Our photos looked amazing! We had so much fun shooting with her. She was so calm throughout the wedding day, which isn't always true of wedding photographers. She kept everyone on schedule and made sure we got all the shots we wanted.

My husband and I are so happy with how our wedding photos came out. We keep receiving glowing reviews from our friends and families. Karen along with her husband Frank, who assists her, did an amazing job. She's incredibly professional, and is able to completely document your wedding day without being intrusive. Most importantly, her shots are absolutely beautiful. She's truly an artist. One of the reasons why my husband knew we wanted Karen to photograph our wedding is that she doesn't just shoot using a digital camera. She also brings along some film cameras and is able to get some really amazing and unique photos with them. If you want your photographs to capture how special your wedding day is, I highly recommend Karen Hill.

I cannot rave enough about Karen Hill Photography.
From start to finish she embodied the utmost professionalism and the best part, she is a creative genius behind the camera. I was so glad that I hired on her second photographer, because they both were SO lovely to work with. They were so flexible with their schedules to accommodate last-minute changes in plans. Best of all, they both made my groom feel comfortable in front of the camera, since he is a bit reserved usually. From the moment I talked to her on the phone, I knew Karen was a true artist. I could not imagine trusting anyone but her and Frank to capture the best day of my entire life. I lost track of how many cameras they had between the two of them. As a fellow artist, it was inspiring to watch them create and compose their pictures in such a seamless flow. I cannot recommend Karen Hill Photography enough to future brides out there. I would also like to add that I hired her to shoot some photos of my rehearsal dinner, and I am 10000% happy that I did. My wedding weekend was the pinnacle of my life and I can rest assured that it's been documented in the most beautiful and timelessly chíc way. Karen's photographic point-of-view is simply breathtaking. I am one lucky bride.

You can see that Karen takes gorgeous photos by looking at her website. What you wouldn’t really know until the wedding day ends is how experienced and professional she is as a wedding photographer. She did an excellent job photographing each moment of the day without interfering with the event. She’s very calm and soft spoken and polite, but she also has a strong will. That’s how she manages the timing and the crowd to seize the opportunities to get the best shots while remaining in the background. We had a fabulous wedding day but it went by amazingly quickly. We so enjoy looking at Karen’s photos to relive the experience. We highly recommend Karen Hill for your wedding.

The photos were absolutely gorgeous! Great service. The photographers were personable and a pleasure to be around. Most importantly, I didn't even notice them during the ceremony! They captured amazing moments during the ceremony but weren't obtrusive at all.

Karen Hill photographed my wedding in December 2010 and I could not have been more pleased! Our wedding was in Chicago and she travelled to photograph both our rehearsal dinner and our wedding. All the pictures are frame worthy and we've received so many compliments from guests and vendors! When we have a family some day I hope she will agree to photograph us again. Karen Hill is one word - amazing. She is an expert photographer. Her beautiful photographs aside, she helped us create a schedule for our wedding day that ensured we caputured all of the most important moments and was the most calming force on the big day. Now back to her photos - My family and I continue to be blown away by the beauty that she captured - from the small details (flowers, the dress, my jewlery, the stained glass in the church...), to the broad strokes (all of our guests at the church, the reception space, the bridges where we took our photographs...). And, of course, she captured my husband and I (who aren't always the most photogenic...) in the most beautiful and touching ways. You can see the happiness, see the love, the excitment and see the day - our wedding day in each of the photos. I am so glad that we hired Karen Hill to be our wedding photographer. Karen is a smart, artistic and insightful photographer, and a pleasure to work with. We knew we were working with an artist, not just someone who is good at taking pictures of a special event. She and her husband Frank were fun and comfortable to work with throughout the whole day, and make a great team. I gasped when I got our proofs: it was an overwhelming experience to look through them, because there were so many amazing shots that beautifully represented our day and all the love between my husband and I, our family and our friends. Karen's photos are real pieces of artwork. It was so important to us to have beautiful images of our wedding day, and everything Karen did surpassed our expectations. I don't know where to start, Karen and Frank were unbelievably fantastic. Karen has such a wonderful ability to capture the true spirit and joy of the day. Her style and eye for light is impeccable and the artistic quality of her work makes for truly stunning photographs. And on top of our amazing photographs, she and Frank were an absolute pleasure to work with - both leading up to our wedding and the day itself. My husband and I will cherish these photographs forever - we envision sharing them with our children and grandchildren :) I couldn't recommend working with Karen and Frank more highly.

One hires Karen Hill for her vision. She has a strong aesthetic and is a perfectionist when it comes to composition and lighting. We thought Karen did a fantastic job capturing the mood and beauty of our day and took photographs that are timeless and classic. My husband and I have been married for almost 12 years and I still have MANY of the photos displayed around our home. We live in LA now so the photos of us on 5th Ave and Grand Central Station in our wedding garb are very meaningful and people always ask about them because they are so unique.

We loved working with Karen and Frank. They are true artists and professionals. We did our engagement photos and our wedding photos. Two thumbs up. Karen's work is beautiful. She really captured the essence of our wedding day and we have a special wedding album that we'll have forever to remember. We highly recommend working with Karen to any couple looking for a photo journalistic style photographer to shoot traditional film. Karen's work is true art, not just snapshots like so many of the newer photographers shooting weddings these days. The work that you get is worthy of a professional editorial shoot, like looking at your own wedding in Martha Steward Weddings, and the shots are like works of art. In addition, Karen is a true pleasure to work with and really blends into your wedding day making it so easy to have them shooting the wedding, they didn't disrupt the flow of the day at all which is so important.

Karen took beautiful photos of our wedding last June. She was very calm, attentive and detailed. She also had no problems telling one of our over zealous relatives to SIT DOWN and get out of the way so she can do her job during our ceremony. If it wasn't for her, that relative would be in all of our ceremony photos. THANK YOU KAREN. She may be soft spoken but she is not timid!
When we got our photos, it brought smiles to our faces because it was like reliving that special day. She captured every moment of our wedding in an artistic and naturally thoughtful way.

I booked Karen for my wedding in September based on the rave reviews and after a great consulation with Karen. I am writing this review to warn future brides that if conditions are not "perfect"..beware. Karen's artistic abilities will not shine through. In fact, Frank (her husband & photo assistant) told my husband the day of the wedding that most of the nice images on her website & samples in her albums were taken by him. NOTE: Frank works as the photographers assistant when you contract w/Karen.
Unfortunately there was terrible weather on my wedding day. We had planned an outdoor ceremony and tented reception. The wind was insane. I guess this not only tainted my day, but affected Karen's ability to perform her job. This must explain why I have ZERO bridal pictures. All the gorgeous pictures of brides posing in their gowns, close-up with their husbands, close-ups of the bride, etc... I have NONE and will never have them. I have hundreds of photos that are unflattering to both the bride & groom because apparently the weather was to much of a distraction for Karen to do her job & guide us or think of a plan B. We actually have pictures where we are standing in the rain- not in an artsy way which ruined my hair/make-up - now that i have the pictures it was not even worth it... but its too late. In addition when i asked if Frank could take photos of my husband & groomsman getting ready an hour before the ceremony while i was getting ready, we had to pay an extra $175 - even though he was already there and contracted to be working. This was apparently an additional service. So, Given the circumstances, we asked Karen to meet us at the venue 2 weeks later to re-do some of the shots of my husband & I, the bridal shots we wanted etc... Karen came back to me & said she would love to, but her rate had gone up by $500/hr!!! Beware of this advantageous vendor!! I do NOT recommend her & will never have the pictures i dreamed of.
