I knew I wanted Julie as my wedding photographer even before I was engaged.

This is one of the easiest reviews I could ever write because Julie was absolutely perfect. I knew of Julie even before I got engaged and connected with her bright spirit while falling in love with her beautiful work. Her work for us didn’t just start with our wedding photography, she was actually there to capture our engagement on the day it happened. She worked closely with my now husband to be there for our engagement on the date that was important and meaningful to us that he wanted to propose on. On the day of our engagement, Julie had just gotten back from Paris, flew into New Jersey, drove to our engagement location in Pennsylvania, only to have to drive back to New Jersey that same day so she could fly home. For our engagement, she captured photos that still bring me back to all the joy and wonderful emotions we felt that day. From our engagement photos, we knew we just had to have her back for our big day. Leading up to our wedding, Julie and her team were completely amazing and professional. Along the way Julie had mentioned she would be sending us a few things. To our surprise, gourmet ice cream (my husband lovesssss ice cream) arrived to our door from Julie. She later also sent me a “best friend” mug because I always said Julie and I were best friends. These might just seem like small things, but to us it showed us how much care she took in truly getting to know us. During our wedding weekend, Julie and her team made sure everything went smoothly. Julie was professional and great with my very very large family, which included my 15 nieces and nephews under the age of 10 (majority of them being under 6). Having just received our wedding photos, I can say with absolute confidence that Julie delivers on what she promises. Not only did she get the portrait style photos I had hoped for, she also captured the beautiful candid photos. Some of these photos included my husband balling his eyes out as I walked up the aisle, along with the tears shed by my bridal party, the pure joy and surprise I had when my husband surprised me with my wedding gift, and a walk my husband and I got to enjoy with our pup on the wedding day. Overall, Julie delivered in absolutely everything she promised and more. She was the best decision we could have made when it came to selecting our wedding photographer and I’m so glad we have the memories of our big day through her photos for the rest of our lives.

Julie Paisley is perfect. I booked her before I was even engaged because I HAD to have her. Her prices are phenomenal and she's so easy to work with. I'm from Jacksonville but I was going to school in Arkansas and my husband is in the military so our schedules weren't exactly open. She rescheduled a family trip to take our engagement pictures when I was home for Christmas break. The day of the wedding would not have been as smooth without her. She is calm, loving and hilarious. She's always willing to help. I think it would be stupid not to book her! She's wonderful.

    Retreat review

Ok, so on July 8th I booked to go on the Morocco photography this October 3. Julie was super responsive, I paid, and we sent a few emails back and forth that day.

That is the last time we talked - almost 2 months ago. I emailed her a month later asking for online video logins, never received them.

Then a super weird email came saying the trip may be cancelled due to covid and security issues? (nothing had changed on the US gov't website) But she would be willing to move my money to another trip (huh?) Even though she "would be out so much money" (you are booking luxury retreats and don't have travellers insurance?"

I responded that I would still like to go - no response.

In the meantime I received ELEVEN emails asking for deposits for more trips. Oh, and a generic email saying she slightly changed her business name, which made me think the last one got sued.

I called my cc company and let them know what was (not) going on, and they refunded the money (amex, thank goodness)

If she had sent an email saying she couldn't go because of personal issues (with a refund) I would have completely understood. But I have heard absolutely nothing, nada, to the point I felt that I had given my money to a pyramid scheme.

I honestly don't know if Morocco is still happening because I haven't heard from her since I booked, or if she even had anything booked to begin with.

If I could change one thing about my wedding I wouldn’t hire Julie

I need to start by saying that this review is incredibly hard for me to write because I have admired Julie for so long, and she is so well known in the industry. In fact, my opinion of her was so high that, for awhile, I was doubting my own perception of my experience with her as our wedding photographer because there was such a disconnect between my image of Julie and the horrible reality I was living exchanging emails with her, feeling abused by her, trying to get decent images of my wedding. In fact, as a reality check, I began to share what I was experiencing with others and as I did that, I began to hear more stories about her behaving badly. When I realized that I was not alone, I knew I had to speak up because maybe if someone had had the courage to tell me the truth I wouldn't have hired Julie and the photographer I did hire would have provide the wedding pictures I dreamed of as I planned my wedding.

I hired Julie to photograph our wedding, even choosing our wedding date around her schedule, because I loved her so much. Leading up to the wedding there were some red flags. We planned a trip to Disneyland for her to take our engagement photos, which, full disclosure, she was adding to our package as a gift. She was going to incorporate the engagement photos as part of a different work trip. However, she didn’t take them because she scheduled more time in Hawaii. She told us to expect “something” in the mail, and we never received anything. When I expressed the desire to purchase the Julie Paisley Planner, she promised twice to send it but I never received it. However, even though I was disappointed, I pushed those things aside knowing how busy she was, and that they were gifts.

The experience we had with her on the day of the wedding was incredibly bad. She did not keep to the schedule, and I feel like she was so focused on detail shots that she forgot to take photos of family. She was so rude that guests came up to me to ask what was wrong with the photographer. She tried to refuse to take a photo of my disabled grandfather where we were - she was insisting he had to walk down an unpaved path, and a hill, with his walker because that was where she wanted to take the photo. She only acquiesced when my sister stepped in.

All of that was unpleasant, but I could live with it if she had delivered images that are consistent with her brand and with what she represents she can do. The only word I can use to describe the gallery she delivered is scant. Although she was present, she did not deliver any candids from the ceremony or cocktail hour reception. She did not deliver any guest reaction shots. We talked extensively about taking photos of the front row and our moms. There are none. She delivered 5 images total of my husband getting ready; all 5 of the images are of him putting on his shoes in the same pose with minor composition variations. I do not believe that the gallery I received was an accurate reflection of the event. Don’t get me wrong there are of course beautiful images, but they don’t overshadow what is lacking or the experience we had.

The tones of the final images are inconsistent not only with each other but with the wedding day reality. For instance, my husband's suit was actually so dark navy it was almost black, but in the images you’d never know that, instead it looks light gray. In my opinion, these images are also not anywhere near the quality of the images she displays in her portfolio.

When I raised these issues with her, I felt that she was rude and unkind. She blamed her second photographer and then me for the lack of images. After over a week of not hearing from her she must have realized how she was behaving in her emails, and she has now offered an album and to re-edit the gallery so it is consistent. I chose not to accept the album - given her history of offering gifts that I never received I didn’t want to be disappointed again. She also reached out to the videographer and has promised to use their images to round out the gallery that she initially provided. However, she has not acknowledged her behavior or that she did a subpar job.

I hired her to document the event so that I would have memories preserved forever and the moments that are missing I can literally never get back. And she has not apologized for, or even acknowledged, how her lack of professionalism and failure to deliver a gallery that fully documented our wedding has impacted me, my husband, and our families.

I’m sharing this with y’all, including her final offer, because I want people to know the truth of my experience, so that no one else has to have the experience my husband and I have had
