Loved Jon!
Jon was amazing! From our pre wedding phone call to our post wedding sneak peaks we could not have been happier! He was extremely professional, very timely, and helped me as a bride no worry about if moments were being captured. Our wedding day was an incredibly humid and hot day in July and Jon was great at facilitating us and our bridal party so that we did not over heat. The pictures we received we incredible, I couldn’t believe how beautiful they turned out. We even got a set of pictures that same night as our sneak peak which we loved and were very impressed by. I would recommend Jon to anyone looking for a wonderful photographer for their wedding!Jon was amazing! From our pre wedding phone call to our post wedding sneak peaks we could not have been happier! Absolutely fantastic!
Jon was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. He was so flexible and understanding when we had to cancel our first date because of COVID, then coached us through when we planned to just have a city hall wedding and have him snap a few pics. We were just going to do something quick and he gave us guidance and recommendations on making it more memorable and making a day of it, which was so hugely appreciated and he was 100% right. Then when we decided last minute to reschedule the actual wedding in only 2 months, Jon pivoted with us once again. He has such an eye for capturing the emotion of important moments - the pictures he takes really do say a thousand words. He was so easy going and helped me not stress - he was easy to talk to and instantly made us feel at ease and like we were in good hands, which we were. Absolutely recommend Jon - can't say enough good things about him - zero room for improvement in our eyes. Wouldn't dream of hiring anyone but him to capture our next special milestone.Jon was absolutely fantastic from start to finish. The absolute BEST photographer EVER!!
We are so incredibly thankful to have had Jonathan by our side to help us capture the most incredible day of our lives! From our engagement photo session, to our helpful phone calls, to the big day, Jon was fantastic. Getting to have some time in front of the camera with him during our engagement photo session was SO helpful and fun! It helped my husband and me to feel comfortable in front of the camera and to give us a little preview of how our wedding day photos would go! Jon was there for every special moment (and more) on the day of our wedding. He made us feel so comfortable and at ease the entire day. From getting ready, to the “I dos”, to our special sunset pictures, Jon was with us the entire way. Our special blog that he made the week after our wedding was so fantastic. All of our family and friends could not stop raving about how beautiful the pictures were! That was such a wonderful sneak peek to have before the rest of our photos were ready. The morning that we received our final pictures, we could not stop smiling and crying! He helped us to re-live our day all over again, and now we have these memories forever. His pictures are so unique and beautiful, and we LOVE them so much! Great Guy and Great Pictures!
My wife and I are very happy that we chose Jon to be our photographer for our wedding! He was recommended to us by a friend and when we saw all of his great reviews/comments online (along with his respectable pricing packages) we knew we found our fit. We met with Jon to do our engagement photo session and he was immediately so easy to get along with and made the who photoshoot situation comfortable for us. Jon always kept in contact with us and answered all of our questions very quickly. He was extremely flexible with our schedule and ideas for the wedding and gave us tips on what typically works best for his clients. On the day of our wedding, Jon arrived earlier than we expected which was very relieving. Jon was so calm and collected throughout the day and never rushed us. It was extremely hot outside so he planned his shots beforehand and made sure that we completed our bridal party and family photos as soon as possible so we could enjoy the cocktail hour and some AC. Although it took some time to get all of our pictures in the mail, Jon posted a collection online within a few days which was much appreciated! We absolutely love the pictures that he took, especially with his unique touch of lighting and angles. We researched potential photographers for a few months and spent countless hours sifting through reviews, websites, asking friends for referrals, etc. , before making a decision. After speaking to Jon over the phone, we immediately knew he was the best person for us. Throughout the entire process he was professional, well-spoken, personable, detail-oriented, punctual, flexible, super-passionate, and very good at his craft. As working professionals, we have extremely high expectations of people when doing business with them. Jon delivered exceptional results and far exceeded our expectations. I am so happy with our decision to choose Jon as our wedding photographer! Jon is incredibly talented at what he does and has a unique style that we loved. He was so easy to communicate with and made us feel so comfortable from the moment we met him. Jon takes the type of photos you want to hang in your home - candid, unplanned and capturing all the feelings on our wedding day. I almost had a mini freak out moment on our honeymoon wondering if Jon even made it to the church that is how stealth mode he was. Somehow he was able to capture literally every moment of the day without us ever even really noticing he was following us the entire day. We can't thank Jon enough for the wonderful pictures he took for us. He is doing my sister's wedding as well this upcoming weekend and I am just so happy for her knowing how awesome her pictures are going to turn out. Jon was the photographer for my wedding in Miami Beach. From the first conversation we had about my wedding to the moment I saw my pictures, everything was PHENOMENAL! Before the wedding, he listened to my vision and offered incredible insight and creativity to the ideas I already had. He thought of things that never occurred to me. In the weeks leading up to the wedding he checked in with me. The day of the wedding he kept me centered. Oh, and he also took the most breath taking, imaginative, honest, BEAUTIFUL pictures EVER - I really couldn't ask for anything more. They are perfect. They are unique. They are exactly what I wanted.
When I show people my pictures they are completely obsessed and immediately ask who my photographer was. When I look at my pictures I see moments that take me right back to the feelings, excitement, and love of the day. I wanted a photographer as fabulous as my wedding - I got that tenfold. I booked Jon for our Philly wedding a few years after he did my best friends wedding. I loved her photos so much I never even looked for another vendor. Jon and Lauren were such a pleasure to work with on our wedding day. They were fun and laid back and were a genuine pleasure to have with us on our wedding day. 99% of the time I didn't even realize they were so laid back and fun. I think that's why the photos are so amazing, you feel so comfortable during the whole process. I was dreading wedding photos because I am not into taking photos but he made it so easy and fun and quick! The photos are AMAZING and breathtaking, Jon has such a beautiful and modern style. I've been to a ton of weddings and Jon's photos (of all his weddings) are my favorite pictures I've seen. I live in NYC (where people like to critique for sport) and have gotten so many messages from friends blown away by the post wedding blog photos raving about his talent. My other vendors even made a point to compliment his style and how great he was to work with during the 10 hours he spent with us. Thank you so much Jon and Lauren, we couldn't be happier! One word. Amazing. From the moment he set foot into our home upon getting ready, I knew this guy was legit. He was so professional and naturally artistic. I’ve been in weddings where the photographers were too aggressive and it disrupted the mood and others where photographers were too passive and didn’t properly pull people together for good photos. Jon was PERFECT - he went with the flow of the day, but was still respectfully direct and adamant about capturing the best shots. Throughout the entire process, he was very communicative and easy to work with. His calm demeanor certainly helped me stay grounded. The quality of his photos on his website speaks for themselves. I was admittedly a hard-to-please bride, prone to impossible standards. From start to finish Jon was the ONE vendor who consistently exceeded expectations. From day one he's the ultimate professional: knows what he's doing and how to do it well. Always quick to respond to emails, endlessly cooperative with any and all requests, true to his word (promised us a timeline and met it to the dot!), and EXTREMELY affordable (count your blessings that he's Berks-based, this work anywhere else would start at double the cost according to my research on Philly photographers). His work is iconic. You book him for the amazing moments he is capable of capturing, the candids of your family and friends on the big day. And make sure you listen to him. He'll obviously do anything you want (again, a true professional), but I think you get the most out of his work when you let him hold the reins. He just has a great eye and amazing instincts, so TRUST HIM. On top of all this, he's an awesome guy. I was all out of sorts on the morning of our big day, but when Jon got the house he was such a calming presence. I was immediately at ease (you cannot put a price on that!). When my husband and I began our wedding vendors search the one piece of advice we were given was to set the date and immediately afterward hire your photographer! Your photographer is one of the most important people the day of your wedding. We knew we didn't want to go with a photography group or company, but find someone to work with that would understand our day and the look we wanted. We found Jon through a recommendation from my dad and it was the best recommendation we could have received! He went above and beyond shooting our engagement shoot during his busiest season last fall and the day of the wedding he was spectacular. One thing I believe is very important in a photographer is the ability to manage, and Jon did so with such ease and natural ability, that things went so smoothly (especially as I was so nervous!) Thank you Jon!When my husband and I began our wedding vendors search the one piece of advice we were given was to set the date and immediately afterward hire your photographer! Your photographer is one of the most important people the day of your wedding. We knew we didn't want to go with a photography group or company, but find someone to work with that would understand our day and the look we wanted. We found Jon through a recommendation from my dad and it was the best recommendation we could have received! He went above and beyond shooting our engagement shoot during his busiest season last fall and the day of the wedding he was spectacular. One thing I believe is very important in a photographer is the ability to manage, and Jon did so with such ease and natural ability, that things went so smoothly (especially as I was so nervous!) Jonathan was my photographer for my 9/20/14 wedding, and it was by far the best decision I made. From the initial understanding of what I was looking for, to the first pictures I saw of the wedding day, he blew me away.
He would jump in a swamp or hang from a tree to get the perfect picture, all while keeping you laughing, feeling confident, and knowing you are his number one priority. We had an amazing time with our friends and family and he made everyone feel beautiful, handsome and like the stars of the show. He is especially great with artistic, never-seen-before poses and shots, as well as incorporating children into the photos with little wait-time for their short attention spans!
By far the best aspect of working with Jonathan is that he posts a blog post with 20 - 30 edited pictures from the day only a few days after the event, and usually with a teaser photo even earlier! It's so helpful to have these available when it is still so fresh in your and your guests heads, and you are able to share them with friends and family right away. A full compilation of your wedding comes a few weeks after, and the blog post will keep you happy until then!

I can't recall how we stumbled upon you online, but I do remember that it was the moment that we knew we found our wedding photographer. We would have moved our wedding date if we had to just to get Jonathan Photography to document our special day. Jon has a unique gift to be able to see unique and memorable shots. If you demand more than the conventional wedding shots, Jonathan Photography is the way to go.
Based on his blog, we knew that we were able to leave everything in Jon's hands. He was a constant professional. At some point, Jon even offered to take his shirt off to lay over a dirty trolley just to ensure that my dress would not get dirty and we could get "the perfect shot". This blew my husband and me away.

If you hire Jon Athans, I promise that you will not regret it. I found his page the day after getting engaged and started following his posts ever since. I tried as hard as I could to solidify a date and venue so that I could be sure Jon still had availability. I stress over everything, so once I booked him, I was nervous that my photos wouldn’t come out as spectacular as the other ones I was seeing on his blog. To say the least, I was blown away by the photos that he took on my wedding day. It was everything I expected and more. You can literally feel the emotion through his photos. When I saw the sneak peeks (2 days after the wedding!), there was an image of my father hugging me and it immediately made me cry. I looked at it and said out loud , “Now THAT is why I chose Jon Athans!” The emotion he captures is really something special.
He’s not your average photographer. He puts thought into every single shot. We didn’t have much time for group shots, which was my fault, so I was extremely disappointed that afternoon. However, every shot he took of us was perfect. Instead of having a ton of “good photos” in all different areas, we got a few really amazing ones. You could tell that he thought about every little detail before taking any of the posed photos in order to ensure they would come out the way he envisioned. I was thrilled when I saw them. But I feel his candids are what truly set him apart from any other photographer. He is there for every emotional moment and you don’t even realize it. He doesn’t miss a thing. I have to say, I had no idea where he was most of the night. He almost seemed invisible, but he was definitely there shooting away. This was great for my husband because he hates getting his photo taken.

Jon photographed our August 2016 wedding and we could not have been happier with the results. He struck a balance between capturing the special moments of the day and taking the necessary portraits. He was professional throughout the planning process and was very helpful on our wedding day with advice. We had no idea how to cut the cake but he was able to provide step by step instructions. The best part about his service was that you rarely knew he was there. He was present without being intrusive. When I reviewed my photos I was surprised at some of the photos he took because I had no idea he was there. Jon provides an artistic eye to those traditional wedding poses so that your pictures not only capture memories but provide you with a unique take on your day. He has a great, natural approach to his photography. I did not even notice him taking pictures while he captured many special moments of the wedding day. We also did an engagement session where he did an excellent job making us feel comfortable in front of the camera. I do recommend contacting him sooner rather than later. His flexibility is limited because he is in such high demand. During our photographer search, we wanted to find a talented guy/gal with a lower price than many of the Philadelphia photographers, who came highly recommended, but with a price tag of $4000-$5000. We loved the photos on Jon’s site and after talking with him, we were confident that he would be fun and very competent on our wedding day.
Unfortunately, this is probably the one vendor we would do differently if we had to do it again. We do think Jon is very talented, and if you are from his area, I can’t say that we wouldn’t recommend him. I hope some of our experience will help other couples ask for the photography experience they want.
Overall, we have plenty of good photos to make an album and to have in our home. Jon is very talented, but it’s really in the photos where he has time to create and stage an artistic shot where his talent shines. Our candids, portraits, and ceremony photos are underwhelming. There are many shots that we wish had in retrospect, mainly candids of us with our family and friends during cocktail hour.
If you are someone who wants a plan and a schedule for your wedding day, I would not recommend working with Jon. We tried 2 months before the wedding and then again 2 weeks before the wedding to create a plan for taking first look, bridal party, and family photos, and Jon was not much help. He kept saying that he can work with 15 minutes or 2 hours. While I appreciate the flexibility, we were trying to create the ideal scenario for our day.
When we initially spoke, Jon said he knew the city well having lived and gone to school there. There were photos from Philadelphia on his site, but following his blog this year, it really doesn’t look like he shoots many weddings there and it showed when we tried to take photos outside near city hall and Love Park. He also said that he would help set up first look and family photos in our hotel and scout locations in the hotel ahead of time.
