Perfect OBX Wedding Night!
My husband and I along with all of our guest cannot say enough good things about John Harper. He was extremely flexible and accommodating with our short time span and played every single song we requested. He also made the music in the ceremony go seamlessly as well. John was so kind and we cannot recommend him enough!!! Best wedding music ever!

John was wonderful to work with. He was personable, helped us prep everything well in advance to ensure music for our wedding day was squared away, had lots of great advice, and most importantly we danced all night with awesome music. hot summer wedding!
We got married in OBX in July.. so you can assume it was HOT! John Harper was a great DJ choice for our wedding. He found every song I needed and played it perfectly during the ceremony. During the reception the dance floor never went empty! He took some songs I requested and made sure to play each of them...(much appreciated!!) All my guests were loving the songs and loved that they could write a suggestion on his table as well. Everyone was included and he kept that dance floor dancing! 10/10. Thanks John.

Wedding Reception
My husband and I got married in OBX in August, 2025, and John was our DJ for the ceremony / reception. He was lovely to work with and very communicative (which was extremely helpful as we are from New England!). John was very professional and kind; he even offered to stop by the house we were expected to stay at to discuss feasibility of setup for the ceremony, as it was on the beach.
I highly recommend working with him!

Amazing DJ

Best DJ out there!
John took on my wedding pretty last minute and did a wonderful job. Everything was perfectly queued and there was not a dull moment. Our guests along with my husband and I didn’t get off the dance floor the whole night. Highly recommend!

Wedding at the Pier
Our wedding was just as we had hoped! John met with us a couple times before the day and helped us work out a good plan for the ceremony music as well as a plan for the reception. He even worked with us when I added an additional song at the last minute to our wedding ceremony.
We had a mix of older and younger guests and he did a great job of keeping everyone on the dance floor. Professional and very helpful in keeping things on schedule. Definitely recommend using John!

The Life of the Party
John made our wedding reception the giant party we wanted. The dance floor was packed all night long and so many of our guests told us that John killed it! We gave John a list of several requests and he followed it perfectly and added in several songs that kept the party going. He is professional and was absolutely the person to get the job done in making our night a memorable one. He made announcements to ensure our reception flowed perfectly. John knows how to keep a party going!
John did wonderfully! I provided a list of the songs I wanted played for key aspects of the ceremony and reception and they all went wonderfully!! I also provided a couple suggestions for songs throughout the evening and John took them and was able to make sure that the dance floor stayed packed. He knew exactly how to read the room and the guests and figure out what songs would be a hit and which ones wouldn’t. I’m so thankful that John was able to work his magic!

Music was one of the most important aspects of our wedding. We wanted as many people on the dance floor for as long as possible during our reception. John absolutely knocked it out of the park with providing a steady stream of great music and a fun atmosphere.
We provided John with a brief playlist of songs as inspiration for the kind of music that we wanted during our reception. He took those suggestions and built an excellent playlist for the wedding that kept our guests entertained from cocktail hour until last call. John was incredibly respectful of our wishes when we spoke with him and ensured that the atmosphere of the party was always fun and upbeat. We trusted John’s judgment with song selection 100% and absolutely recommend that you work with him for your big day. We and our guests loved every song that he played and danced until the venue closed down.

The best DJ & MC
I have seen DJ John Harper at many events and knew I wanted to hire him for our wedding festivities. He did a fantastic job at both our rehearsal dinner and wedding! He had a meeting with us early on and showed us a site where we could pick songs. We only picked a few of our favorite songs and let him read the crowd and fill in the rest. He is very experienced, so he knows most of the venues/vendors which is very helpful. He is also a wonderful announcer/MC, so he did a great job doing the wedding party intros etc.

During the trying times of trying to plan a wedding in the middle of a pandemic not only was he affordable which is a rare find here on the Outer Banks, DJ John Harper was there to help me with any question, concern or special request. He played the traditional wedding music that got everyone up and moving and then switched to a more modern playlist once some of our older guest left the reception which made for a perfect evening of having everyone out on the dance floor! DJ John Harper worked with my wedding planner and kept the reception moving right on schedule and the night went off without a single flaw. I would highly recommend hiring him as your wedding DJ, you wont regret it!

John made this process as easy as it comes! From the first phone call we had, he laid out how he typically handles a wedding and from there it was history. He allowed us to enjoy the night just as we pictured. We gave him general songs, genres etc. we were into and he made up a playlist and felt out the crowd as the night went along which kept everyone moving all night.. everyone loved him & had so much fun we ended up asking him to stay longer! John was very highly recommended to us via a family friend in the area who had used his services for two weddings in the family already. From the first phone call with John, our mind was made up. He was so polite and professional and the way he speaks instills a sense of calm, a byproduct of years of experience I'm sure. Coming from Pittsburgh for an Outer Banks wedding, we weren't able to meet with any of the vendors ahead of time, but when John showed up the day-of, it was like we were old friends. We delayed our wedding a year due to Covid, and throughout the year John would check-in with us just to see how things were going. As we got closer we ironed out all the details over the phone. We didn't have a wedding coordinator or anything of the sort and we told John as much. He volunteered to keep the night rolling with announcements, timing, he even talked to the caterers to figure out the best way for guests to go up to the buffet line. He provided a microphone and speaker for our ceremony on the beach behind the house (something we thought was going to be difficult), but again, it wasn't a problem! The dance floor was rocking all night and we had so many people tell us how great of a job he did. John acted as a DJ and wedding coordinator on our day, but most of all a reassuring figure throughout the TWO YEAR planning process, who continuously checked in and encouraged us throughout the scariest time of our lives (planning a wedding during Covid). 10/10 would absolutely recommend. Weddings or any other event that needs a top-notch DJ, John is your guy.

John was a great addition to our wedding day! He was super resonsive and worked around our schedule. This was a destination wedding for us. He was able to meet with us when we visited the area so we could introduce ourselves and go over what we wanted. We had to reschedule our wedding due to COVID-19 and it was no problem for John at all. We had our ceremony on the beach and he brought his portable speakers and a microphone so everyone could hear clearly. The music he played at the reception was very versitle. We gave him our song list and he played a lot of those and others that he thought would get people dancing. My family and friends commented on how well he did throughout the night. He was reserved and respected everyone and did not take over the party. I would recommend John for any occasion! Thanks again!

Even on his own birthday, he came and DJ’ed at my wedding! He was great the entire day/night. He took requests but more importantly he knew the songs the crowd would like. We did not have a wedding coordinator, so he was able to help direct the entire reception - from entry, to cake cutting, to first dances, etc. John also played our ceremony music! The best way to get in contact with him is via telephone but he will get back to your email within days. Highly recommend!

He was easily available via phone and email to send song suggestions to and special dances. My husband and I met with him again 2 days before the wedding to firm up details with the venue. He was able to set up and run the music for our beach ceremony, then have music ready for inside dinner, and then did our music outside for dancing. He read the crowd perfectly, playing songs just right for our party and dancing crowd. Our guests raved about how great the music was and how much fun the reception was because of it! We sang and danced the night away! John's personality is very laid back and he is easy to work with. He is a must-have DJ for an OBX wedding!

So much fun!
John was so great! He was easy to talk to and helped guide us while planning for our wedding reception. We really enjoyed getting to know and work with John. He was the very first call we made in our search for our DJ and we never looked back. He is very knowledgeable about music and it was very apparent that music is his passion. He was always available to talk when questions came up and we leaned on his experience having worked hundreds (maybe even thousands) of events in OBX over his long career.
As for the wedding experience, he was crucial in figuring out the best mic to use (in OBX the wind can be very loud) and getting the sound just right for our attendees. He guided us through the reception portion like a true pro. Everyone danced the night away, both young and old...we all had a blast!

"A DJ why do we need a DJ." That was my answer when two close friends popped by one evening a few weeks before our son was getting married. The friend and his son were both former DJ's. He was almost angry because his son was my son's Best Man. "You mean these two never thought of a DJ?"
The discussion turned to why would you risk all the effort and expense of a wedding going off the rails by not having a good DJ. Well that was all I needed to hear. I did my research and made a contact that night for what my research told me was the top DJ on the Outer Banks and rated as a top DJ on the east coast. Well it turns out John also knew the members of the Band Delta Rae from a broadcasters convention he attended and then later had play live on his broadcast when they played Nags Head in 2014 or 2015. Delta Rae is my brothers kids and my son and daughter's favorite cousins. The wedding was a smash and John really did bring it home. I think he would agree it was somewhat miraculous how rain was called for all day and it threatened but not a drop fell! Along with Currituck Barbecue this wedding was so fun and everyone had such a fun time watching a very sweet couple get married! I would do this again for my daughter's wedding in a heart beat! Thanks John you really helped make it such a special day! My wife was particularly touched by you call and comments a few days later.

John is great! I think he called me more during the planning process than I called him, which I appreciated! He would call just to check in on the planning and help with suggestions. My favorite suggestion he gave us was to do the anniversary dance and give the longest married couple a little Outer banks Souvenir, which we thought was a great idea. John was worth every single penny we spent! It has been almost 3 months since our wedding and we still have our friends and family talking about how wonderful and entertaining our DJ was! As a bride trying to plan a destination wedding in the Outer Banks, John Harper was a saint, offering to help in any way. Initially, I did a lot of online research trying to find the best of the best for a DJ and photographer, John Harper's reviews moved him to the top of the list of desired DJ's. In emailing both the photographer and DJ, they individually offered to give additional recommendations to make the best choice possible being a bride planning from afar. Both recommended each other and offered to help in any way possible, from looking at event homes, giving their professional opinion, and going out of their way to assure my questions were answers and I felt confident in booking the vendors.

My mom and I met John when we visited a venue on a whim very shortly after my engagement. Though we weren't quite ready to start considering vendors, our brief meeting with him (as he prepared for a wedding) put him on the short list for wedding DJs. When we were ready to choose a DJ, he was our first choice, and he didn't disappoint. He provided us with a great list of things he'd need for the wedding, was available to talk on the phone and really helped me plan my reception timeline. John Harper was amazing!! He kept my guests dancing from start to finish. He had a great playlist with little input from us. He made our special day perfect! We highly recommend him for your wedding or special event.

John did a fantastic job for our wedding reception! He jumped aboard for our in the spot requests and made it happen!!! He was so kind and responsive, plus he has a great DJ voice :)

John Harper was the perfect DJ for our wedding!! He listened so well to everything we wanted. And he could read the response from our guests to play the best choices at our reception. He was incredibly kind and unobtrusive. Everyone raved about him and the great song choices he played. My husband and I agreed that he wasn't our DJ but another guest because he was so much fun!! Hire John for an unforgettable wedding!!

John Harper is the way to go. Period. When asked by several people in Nags Head who my DJ was, they would swoon after I told them John Harper was our DJ!
He is such a cool guy. We met him at the OBX Wedding Expo and chatted anough to know that he was the one for us. John's a radio DJ for 99.1 The Sound and before the wedding, my husband and dad would listen to the station regularly. As weird as this sounds, he has the perfect voice for announcing. He is easy to understand and pronounces things extremely well.
Something else he does is play to the crowd. I never gave him a playlist for our wedding, aside from the dance songs, and my guests raved about the music selection and everyone had a blast dancing all night!

John Harper knows music! There wasn't a minute during the entire reception that the dance floor wasn't moving with dancers of all ages. He's flexible, easy to work with, and loves music. I would not hesitate to book him for your party.

John was recommended by our photographer, and after reading his reviews I knew he'd be a great fit! He always kept in great contact with me, and I really appreciated John speaking with me on the phone to get to know us as a couple since we were planning a destination wedding. The day of, our wedding seemed to be very whirlwind but when we finally got to dance and relax it was because of John! Everyone had a fantastic time, wish it could have lasted longer. Definitely go with John, you will not be disappointed, plus his "radio" voice is awesome!

John was extremely flexible in working with us throughout the wedding process. He even served as a resource for us as we were deliberating on other catering and photography vendors. While John's not the most technologically savvy guy in the business, he did a really nice job and played great music throughout dinner and the reception. He even loaned us a portable audio system to use throughout the week and for our beach ceremony. That came up clutch! John is a great dude!

John Harper was the perfect DJ for our wedding. Everyone danced the whole night because the music was so awesome. He also did the music for our ceremony and it was flawless. He has a great personality and truly wants to make your wedding day perfect. I would highly recommend John Harper if you want to have a great wedding reception.

John Harper was AMAZING during the whole process of planning our wedding!! He was extremely easy to talk with and not only helped us out with song choices but also gave us recommedations for other vendors he worked with in the past. THe music was FANTASTIC and fit our personalities perfectly!!! Our guest were dancing throughout the night. John also played "Let It Go" for the little ones during dinner, which made their night :) We would defianetly recommed John to anyone who wants a outstanding DJ, who arrives early, easy to talke with, always returns your call, gives advice to help planning and is just a great individual all together!! Thanks John for everything!

Honestly, John Harper could not have done better. We gave him a fairly detailed song list, and he executed to perfection. The ceremony music was perfectly timed. During the reception our guests never left the dance floor. But more, overall John is just a very nice, accommodating person. I would highly recommend him to anyone. A pleasure to work with.

When I first met John Harper, I knew I wanted him to be the DJ for our wedding. He is laid back, but responsive. I knew he would have a great time with our guests and would make sure our guest were out on the dance floor. He did not disappoint! John is a great value and a great DJ. I would highly recommend him.

John was a wonderful addition to our wedding. He was easy to work with, helped us troubleshoot an issue with a song we wanted for the father daughter dance, and knew exactly how to get the group moving. We had a small wedding, so wasn't sure how our dance floor would turn out, but our friends stayed dancing all the way til the end!

John did a fabulous job!! He played the absolute perfect music for us during our reception, based only off of a few songs that we had requested in advance. Everyone kept telling us how perfect the DJ was and how not a single song he played seemed "out of place". He arrived right on time, set himself up, and went with the flow. He is obviously extremely experienced and we are so pleased that John was our DJ!!! I would most definitely recommend him!

John Harper helped us throw one heck of a party at our wedding reception. It was a destination wedding and our wedding coordinator referred him. After only meeting him once and speaking to him a couple times on the phone before the wedding, we got a really good feeling that we could completely trust him with the music selection. We only gave him a few "must plays" and a few "no plays" and he completely took care of the rest of the music. Our guests were dancing nonstop the entire night! I would highly recommend his DJ services to any bride or groom.
