Transformed our venue!
John Farr Lighting provided excellent lighting for our wedding at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Old Town Alexandria, VA. Their lighting really transformed the space! Our venue recommended we hire John Farr due to their familiarity with the venue, and that definitely paid off. Planning with John Farr was easy - we emailed them our color scheme, had a few emails and a quick call to discuss, and then with how well they knew the venue, they executed it perfectly. Our venue looked beautiful from the pre-ceremony to the reception speeches to the end of the dance floor. The venue is a former torpedo factory that now holds artists’ studios, and the lighting allowed all that history to shine while also creating a beautiful, intimate, cool wedding vibe. -

Perfect Lighting for our Wedding
We were married at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA. John was recommended to us by our venue due to his experience and familiarity with the unique space. John was a pleasure to work with, and his lighting design helped us customize the venue to make it really feel special. He and his team were highly professional, insightful, prompt, and efficient. We would definitely recommend John Farr based on our very positive experience. -

great lighting
Beautiful lighting design. Our July 31, 2021 wedding was originally planned for May 30, 2020, and we postponed the wedding twice. Over the entire time we coordinated with John- over two years- he was super responsive, patient, and kind. John transformed our venue, the Torpedo Factory Art Center, into a beautiful and magical space for our wedding! -

Very efficient and wonderful work
We had the pleasure of working with John for our wedding at St. Francis Hall (Brookland, DC). It was actually our caterer who convinced us to splurge on the lighting after hosting so many events at the venue. It made such a difference! We ended up having to do both the wedding and reception inside due to the weather and it was still absolutely stunning.
John was extremely easy to work with and the quality was outstanding. -

John Farr was an absolutely amazing lighting designer to work with. Most of my interactions with them were done through my designer, but they seemed amenable to any requests we made such as hanging café lights across the ceiling and lighting the outdoor path. I only wanted soft and subtle lighting as I was weary of our pictures having blue or pink sheen to them. John Farr recommended a sepia gel up-light which made our venue look sexy and warm especially with the addition of the café lights. Thank you, John Farr! -

The team at John Farr lighting did a fantastic job! Our venue at the American Visionary Art Museum is basically a large empty room. John Farr understood the tone we were trying to set, and provided a wonderful package to create a warm, elegant environment -- from stringed lights over the dance floor to uplighting along the walls. Particularly now as we're reviewing the photos from our wedding, the quality of their work really stands out. The team was creative, responsive, and generally great to work with! -

Absolutely loved John Farr Lighting Design for our wedding at the Hotel Monaco in DC! Eric met with me in the ballroom space to go over all of the lighting choices I was interested in for both the ceremony (which we did soft, warm white lighting) and the reception (which we did soft pinks, light cool purples and white lighting) and it looked gorgeous! It was a subtle but dramatic change from the ceremony to the reception and looked perfect in our pictures! Highly recommend if you are looking for professional lighting for you venue! -

John Farr was recommended to us by our caterer to do the lighting for our daughter's wedding. He provided string lights for the outdoor area under the Linden Grove, and uplighting for both the dining room and the dance room. The indoor lighting gave the walls a soft glow that really added so much beauty to the dining room and ambiance to the dance room. From the moment I first contacted them I was impressed with their response time, the proposal and the delivery. Eric Hertsch and Jamie Verdin were great to work with. They provided that touch that if you don't have it, maybe people don't know that it is missing, but when you do have it, it makes all the difference in the world: it sets the atmosphere and makes the ambiance for, in our case, a romantic, beautiful and magic night. They were excellent, they were reasonably priced, reliable, know their work and... afterwards sent a handwritten note thanking us for having given them the opportunity to work in our daughter's wedding. Amazing the number of guests who commented on the lighting! I am so happy to have been referred to Eric Hertsch and to have worked with him. I recommend John Farr Lighting in a heartbeat. -

The lighting recommended and implemented for my daughter's wedding truly made the event. Both the ceremony and reception lighting "amped-up" the mood and atmosphere providing a classy, unique and professional atmosphere.

John Farr completely transformed the venue into a magical location! They definitely know what they are doing! We got married at the Torpedo Factory and the lighting/draping completely transformed the space. I was so happy with the outcome I would definitely recommend them to anyone else! -

Professional lighting for your event space may not seem necessary, but after seeing what John Farr can do it was the BEST money we spent! They offered amazing guidance and a knowledgeable, professional staff to create the perfect ambiance for our wedding. It doesn't matter how beautiful your cake, flowers, or attire...without the perfect lighting, none of them will pop! -

Great customer service and very productive meeting at the venue and by email before our wedding. They had a nice selection of products and really helped fine tune ideas to come up with a great lighting package for the reception. John Farr Lighting was very professional and delivered exactly what I asked for with very little effort on my part, which is very nice as a bride. Lighting really makes the wedding atmosphere in my opinion and they did an excellent job. The pin-spotting was perfect, and the color of the up-lighting was perfect. John Farr made our venue look amazing. They are very experienced and know what looks good and goes well together. They met with us multiple times to show us the colors we wanted and what colors went well with the venue. They were also very patient with all of our questions. They were dressed professionally during the event and I didn't notice them at all. We worked with mainly with Eric and he was fantastic. Thank you, Eric, for doing such a great job at our NMWA wedding! -

Eric at John Farr is a genius! In a very expensive wedding we agreed that this was the smartest money we spent. For a few hundred dollars Eric used a custom monogram to create a lighting feature that turned plain-jane pocket doors into a fabulous backdrop. The best. -

John Farr was really easy to work with - they knew our venue like the back of their hand, and made it look gorgeous. Lighting makes a huge impact but is easy to overlook. In an industrial space as ours was, it made a big difference and made the space look very elegant. Definitely recommend them! -

My planner worked with John to created the most beautiful ceremony and reception ever. The room had the most stunning pink glow. I received so many compliments on the lighting. Every time I look ate the pictures I smile. The lightening was my favorite detail of the wedding.

Wow, talk about an unexpected important part to my wedding day! The lighting really set the whole tone and mood of the night. It was so beautifully done and really made a huge difference on the flower arrangements, dance floor, and dessert buffet. I had the opportunity of working with Eric, who is a true professional. He was incredibly responsive to all of my questions, flexible when it came to making the walk-thru, and a true pleasure to work with! He took the time out to explain how everything would be set-up and look the day of the wedding. He also went over all of the different color selections I could choose from, making sure everything would be exactly how I wanted it. He also coordinated with my vendors, asking questions I wouldn’t even know to ask, to ensure everything ran smoothly. This is a top of the line company, with top of the line experts, and it really shows in their work! -

I was referred to John Farr Lighting by another vendor -- and literally a week before my wedding (we originally didn't think we would need additional lighting) they were able to accomodate me into my schedule, and had emailed me a quote that same day. The lighting was gorgeous and perfect, it really made the room beautiful, and the lighting was soft and complimentary.
Lighting is stupid expensive (but opon a google search found out John Farr is about on target for our area for lighting costs) -- but if your reception site is dark and the site's lighting isn't quite right, I do recommend speding the extra money. -

Lighting is a must I don't think my wedding would have come together the way that it did with out it. I used their basic package of up lighting which they incorporated the colors of our wedding into beautiful blues and greens, with pin spotting on the cake and center pieces, and has an extra treat we had a custom GOBO of our Monogram projecting on the walls and they even had a peacock feather GOBO! Peacock was the theme of our wedding, it was beautiful. I would highly recommend John Farr Lighting! -

I drove myself crazy before the wedding, wondering if I really *needed* the uplighting that I had contracted out to John Farr. It seemed like a lot of money and I was worried that it wouldn't make that big of a difference. Boy, was I wrong. This made a HUGE difference in my space (Old Ebbitt Grill) and I am so, so, so glad that we used this company. They just did a fantastic job and completely transformed the space. They really exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend them. If I ever have an event in the DC area again, I will use them for sure! -

We chose John Farr because my husband and I were getting married in a museum at night and we thought it would be necessary. I was blown away at how beautiful everything looked when I walked into the museum that night! The color they choose was perfect and people actually came up to me and complimented me on the lighting, which is not something you normally hear from guests. Usually people compliment you on flowers, food and music etc but the fact that people noticed the lighting is just a sign of what a great they did! Eric, my contact, was extremely nice and was quick to accommodate all my changes and requests. We were very happy we went with John Farr! -

I had seen that another wedding at Old Ebbitt Grill had featured uplighting as was intrigued. I didn't consider it initially, because the space doesn't really seem to need any enhacements which is great, but after reading the review of the bride who said it transformed the room, I was intrigued.
Yes, it seems like a lot of money for just light, but the effect is dramatic. I also wavered about actually going forward with the uplighting because it truly seems like one of those unnecessary details, but I honestly believe it made a huge difference in the end.
I dealt with John Farr completely via email. He was responsive and provided the info I needed - there was no drama or upselling. There was actually very little contact required!
When we arrived at the venue, it was still light out and even then we could see what effect this had on the room. By the time it got a bit darker, the impact was awesome.
We had blue uplighting to complement our color theme and it was gorgeous! Looking now as our photos come back - they look so awesome and the lighting effects are a big part of it. It also helped to give a real "event" feel and was truly the element that pulled the look of the night together.
I would do this again in a heartbeat and I am glad to have had John Farr lighting as part of my wedding! -

we had our wedding at old ebbitt, and were pleased with the results! we went with a 'candle-lit' color, just to add some drama and light to the atrium. of course we have never seen the atrium at night without lighting, so we had debated, but john farr did a fabulous job illuminating our night! -

I had my wedding at the Torpedo Factory, where John Farr exclusively does the lighting. They did a great job, and because they were so familiar with the venue they were able to do it in a flash. Kind of expensive, but it made all the difference with the venue. -

Everything at our wedding looked beautiful, and it was in large part due to John Farr Lighting. They lit up our venue, the Carnegie Institution for Science, with subtle amber and rose tones. All my interactions with them were very professional. The only glitch I noticed is when they were setting up the lights for the ceremony, they were not planning to point the spotlight at the front (where my husband and I would be standing), so my photographer had to ask them to do it.
Pretty expensive, but definitely worth it. -

John Farr is the only vendor you can work with to provide lighting at the Torpedo Factory Art Center, which is critical to the space. The price was somewhat high, but the lights looked great in the end. I wanted a custom floor decal, which John Farr quoted at ~$200, i ordered one from the internet that was ~$50 that they projected instead. The staff was professional to deal with and arrived on time, etc. -

We had a mixed experience with John Farr Lighting. Our point of contact was Larry. At the beginning, Larry was very responsive to emails and we had a good walk-through consultation with him. Once we sent in the contract and deposit, however, I had trouble getting a hold of him. It took a month before my deposit was acknowledged and I received a counter-signed contract. In the weeks leading up to the wedding, however, Larry was very prompt in returning my emails and answering my questions.
On the day of the wedding, the lighting looked, for the most part, really beautiful. Larry had listened to my requests and the lighting enhanced the venue instead of overwhelming it. They did a custom gobo with our monogram and it looked really nice projected onto the wall.
We were, however, disappointed with regards to two things:
1. The lighting crew failed to spotlight our first dance, despite this being written in the contract. This was something we had really looked forward to and had our photographer specially prepped to take photos of it. When we approached the crew lead at the end of the evening, we were told that he had trouble locating Carnegie staff when the dance began to turn off the main lights. We felt this was not a satisfactory response and that the crew should have spoken with the Carnegie staff long before the dance began about how to turn off the main lights.
2. We had also been told that if any point in the evening we wanted the lights changed, we could simply speak with a crew member and this would happen. During the dancing we wanted the lights to be a little bit dimmer. However, when I went to look for any of the crew, I could not find them. It was only after the event was over and that they began packing up that I was able to find them.
I emailed Larry after the event to discuss the lighting, but unfortunately never received any response.
Overall we were pleased with the lighting, but do feel were let down with regard to a few aspects. -

I worked with Eric at John Farr lighting to have dramatic uplighting at our wedding at Arena Stage. I sent Eric photos of the colors and type of lighting we wanted, and met with him twice before the wedding to confirm our plans. We wanted uplighting along the concrete walls of the Grand Lobby, and dramatic patterns of light on the ceiling and bird's nest. The lighting along the concrete walls of the Grand Lobby was spot on: the color was exactly right, it was full, and it really achieved exactly the look I had sent Eric in the photos. However, the lighting patterns on the ceiling and the bird's nest were really underwhelming, and nowhere close to the photo I sent Eric. This was especially disappointing because the ceiling light/pattern took up a significant portion of our bill. I contacted Eric after the event showing him photos of the lighting at our event compared to the photo I had asked him to emulate, and asking why they looked so different. He told me that it had to do with the amount of daylight that was present, but that still does not make sense to me because both photos were taken at nighttime. Needless to say, I am disappointed with the quality of the service when it came to the ceiling light/pattern and their customer service afterward. -

Contacted this vendor two to three weeks ago. I received one email from them asking could we speak. I replied to the email and never heard anything back. I then proceeded to call the person who had contacted me and we spoke however I never received a quote nor proposal from our conversation. All around I was not impressed with the lack of customer service I was receiving. I have seen their work at hotels in the area and was very interested. -
