Perfect wedding experience!
Working with Annie at the Bissell Treehouse was a dream! She helped make all of our wedding reception dreams come true and we could not have had a better day. She made things as stress free and easy as possible. 100/10 would get married here again and again 🤍 -

Beautiful for Fall Wedding
From booking the venue to having the ceremony and reception there, it all went by so smoothly. The coordinators are very kind and they are compassionate in helping to make sure your wedding day runs smoothly. Only thing that is tricky is that they give you 2 hours to set up, and 1 hour to take down. I recommend this venue to people that want to have smaller wedding reception or ceremony. -

Amazing wedding
I had my dream wedding at the tree house. The zoo staff are great to work with and it is the perfect intimate setting for a wedding. Beautiful view and venue, unique and original! -

A Once in a Lifetime Event
My wife and I worked closely with Skye from the JBZ team and it was remarkable from the first moment we saw the treehouse. There is so many great things to say about JBZ and the team. First the venue is without a doubt one of the most beautiful locations in Michigan. The treehouse is beyond unique and held our 100+ people comfortably. The layout works flawlessly for wedding prep, and the funicular is a blast for the guests. Guests are still talking months later how amazing the venue was. We were able to take amazing pictures around the zoo, and the biggest benefit, the money we paid went to a great organization, that cares truly about their animals and the environment. -

This venue is a DREAM.
I am SO grateful that I was able to have my wedding reception in this space. It is absolutely stunning and provided us with exactly the vibe that we wanted. It has a beautiful outdoors feel to it, has massive windows with a lot of natural light, and the wood walls are beautiful. I really loved that it had two separate outdoor deck areas for guests who wanted to be outdoors or to socialize without having to yell over loud music. The view of downtown Grand Rapids is AMAZING. We received several comments about how beautiful and unique our reception venue was. The funicular was a huge hit and really gave the guests a fun and unique experience. We also got some stunning photos at the zoo (waterfall pictures, plenty of natural greenery, etc.). Overall, I couldn’t imagine anything better. It was the PERFECT venue for us and my wedding was an absolute dream. The only thing to keep in mind is that the venue works for small to mid-sized weddings. If you have a large guest count, you’ll (sadly!) have to look elsewhere. The alcohol package was through the zoo as well and I am very happy with those services – our guests had a great time. Our coordinator, Darci, was wonderful. Highly recommend!-

Great Venue!
We had our wedding reception at the Bissell Treehouse at the John Ball Zoo on June 21, 2019. We went with this venue because we are both architects/designers and the architecture is absolutely beautiful, plus riding the funicular to the top is a one of a kind experience!
We had booked a venue in Detroit previously and it all went wrong, so when we decided to rebook somewhere else we were nervous about the same thing happening. That was not the case at all, the staff here are wonderful. They are responsive, knowledgeable, and great to work with. They have all the information you need and call all your vendors to make sure everything is in place for you.
I would say the only downside to this venue is that there is only 2 hours before the start time that are available for set up, so if you are thinking of a DIY wedding you may want to rethink that. We had vendors for everything that needed to be set up, including a day of coordinator for our decorations.
Overall I was very pleased with this venue and got so many compliments on how beautiful it was, i would definitely recommend.-

Exceptional Venue
Everyone was raving about our venue choice! The funicular wasn’t running, but the zoo was able to shuttle people up to the treehouse. I wish they had made signs or something to help people know about the shuttles because some of my guests walked the whole zoo to get there!! BUT otherwise EXCELLENT service, EXCELLENT venue. -

My husband and I were recently married at the tree house! What a beautiful and unique venue. The floor to ceiling windows were breathtaking and allowed our guests to enjoy both the indoor and outdoor settings available. We worked closely with Skye, the venue coordinator, and she was so amazingly helpful. Not only was she quick to respond, but very knowledgeable. We planned this wedding from out-of-state, and her advice and layouts were essential. Thank you for making our wedding a day we will always remember fondly! -

Absolutely stunning venue. I was very proud to have such a unique venue in the middle of the city. The staff was great - really no complaints! It's probably smaller capacity than average, which was pretty painful to cut down our guest list, but it ended up being worth it so we could keep our overall budget small as well. Our wedding was Sept 2 and we had the most PERFECT weather. Sunny and 75! Up on that hill was not buggy, totally secluded and totally stunning. We had our buffet tables outside on the deck (food stayed warm too), which allowed for more space inside for guest tables, and we did not have to take down tables for the dance floor. We had the bar outside, and we did not anticipate that most our guests would hang out outside near the bar after dinner instead of head to the dance floor. It made our DJ nervous, but it was obvious our guests were having a great time catching up with old family and friends. So since guests were happy, I was happy! This venue was truly an amazing part of the memory of our day -

The Bissell Tree House was a great place for our reception. Naturally beautiful and elegant. Everyone said they loved it. The staff was easy to work with and helped me think through my decisions and the placement of the food, bar, etc. Everyone had fun riding the furnicular up to the Tree House. We loved everything about it. -

My new husband and myself wanted something different then a normal ballroom as most of our guest were coming from out of state. The Tree House was perfect! The were great to work with for the past year before the day and on the day of. The value was spot on as many places in Grand Rapids changed the same price and didn't have half of what the Tree House had. If you can get into the Tree House take it, I have never loved a place more!! -

We were so happy we had choose The Bissell Tree House for my daughter's September wedding. Kristin was amazing to work!!! She was very detailed oriented, accommodating of anything that we needed as we planned for the big day. She made everything run like clock work and was so sweet and went out of her way to make sure everything was done as we wanted. We received so many complements on how beautiful the tree house was. It sparkled with elegance, and the view was amazing. It was everything we had dreamed about and much more. I would recommend the Bissell Tree House to anyone!! You won't be disappointed.

This place is beautiful with a top notch staff. Anthony was great to work with, answered all of my questions quickly, and there were many during the 6 month lead up to the wedding. Did I mention it is gorgeous up there? It was perfect for both the ceremony and the reception. Only drawback that I can think of is it is a little tough to do your own music as the hookup to the PA system is behind a wall, next to the kitchen. I had to arm 2 people with walkie-talkies to get the music right, one to run the ipod and one to give the ques from outside. -

The Bissell Tree House as the John Ball Zoo is the perfect place to hold your wedding! We held our ceremony & reception in the same location! Because we did not live in the area we did a majority of our planning by email. Kristen, our point person, responded to emails promptly, was super accommodating & helpful throughout the whole planning process. Also she went out of her way to contact all of our vendors to make sure that they knew where to go & park. She helped us from start to finish; and was even present on the day of our wedding.
The venue is beautiful since it is only a little over a year old. It's in perfect condition. You take a funicular to get up to the venue in the trees & can see wonderful views of the Grand Rapids skyline. We had planned to hold our ceremony outside on their covered balcony, but due to chilly October weather we moved it all inside & it was absolutely perfect! No one was the wiser & everyone was comfortable. There was plenty of room to hold our ceremony & have the reception all set up & ready to use right after we were finished. & their staff removed the chairs from the dance floor swiftly & without anyone noticing that it had happened.
I really cannot express how happy we were with everything! It was the perfect location to hold our wedding & everyone loved it! -

Anthony was AWESOME. They did change the price of a few things, but he did make sure to give me the heads up. I also booked prior to them upping the rental price, so it was well worth the money. Perfect view, my guest loved the funicular and I had no worries at all. It's also nice to know I can always go back and visit. :) -

We had our wedding at the tree house and it was absolutely beautiful. Anthony was our contact for the wedding and he was extremely helpful. He contacted all our vendors, gave them directions to the tree house, set up dates for them to come view the place, etc. It was kind of like having a built in wedding planner free of charge! We were really disappointed when the Funicular broke for our big day, but they gave us the Grand Rapids trolley free of charge and it was so cute, everyone loved it, and they worked great to get people up to the tree house.
My only complaint was that they wouldn't close the bathroom to the public, so my bridesmaids and I had to change and do our hair and makeup in a small bathroom shared with the public who had made their way up to the tree house.
Other than that, everything was wonderful. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. The pictures turned out beautiful with the gorgeous building and gorgeous view. You cannot go wrong with this venue!! It's a beautiful location and the staff is extremely helpful. Wonderful! -

Dream Wedding
This venue provided us a space that felt magical, unique and elegant all at once making our wedding just wonderful! Annie was our coordinator and she was just a delight to communicate with. The venue was clear and detailed which made decision making a breeze and aided in quick responses to our many questions. The catering list was flexible for all budgets and accommodations available within the venue were fun. We had animals visit our cocktail hour and a fireplace that warmed the ambiance. The bar staff was very friendly and kept the crowd moving which was appreciated; I never once waited in a line for my drinks. The team in all was an honor to works with and they know exactly what they are doing and worked along with my masters of ceremony so well. Thank you JBZ for a night of perfection for us. -

The Bissell Tree House is a unique, gorgeous venue. So many guests commented on how beautiful the location was. Our April wedding allowed for a perfect view of the Grand Rapids skyline. Heather Parry was excellent to work with - she was prompt, professional, and thought of so many details that I hadn't. JBZ will coordinate with all of your vendors for the delivery and timing. Though you do have to pick from a set catering list, they have such great knowledge of the catering companies that it really does make everything go so smoothly. JBZ and the catering company we chose communicated so that every last detail was covered. Unfortunately, the funicular was broken on the day of our wedding. Heather was able to let me know a few days ahead of time, and I knew that it was a possibility when we made our decision to have it at the Tree House. Guests didn't realize a thing, and the trolley that they had as a backup was very cute! My only recommendation would have been to have more than one trolley. Some guests (including the bride and groom!) had to wait awhile at the end of the night for the single trolley to come back up. Nonetheless, I would recommend the Tree House to anyone! -

This is easily the best venue in Grand Rapids & probably a unique find anywhere. This venue is easy to work with & the entire night was truly spectacular. My husband & I picked this venue because it is unlike your typical banquet hall or golf course setting. The Tree House provides a Funicular to transport guests from the parking lot to the hill top & this is an experience that the guests find very fun. The day of is a little confusing because you cannot begin setting up for the event until 2 hours prior. As a result, you are not present for any of the prep work & guests start to arrive before you have the venue set up. The venue does not have a place for the bridal party to get ready in so you have to do that off site. Because of this you do tend to feel a little rushed & frantic but it all worked out & the end result was beautiful & amazing. The venue is worth it! -

My husband and I were lucky enough to book our wedding at the Bissell Tree House. It has become very popular in the last few years so getting a date was not easy. We live in AZ and planned a wedding in Grand Rapids. As you can imagine this makes things a little interesting. We worked with Kristen from day one and she has been absolutely amazing.
The tree house is beautiful and we knew it would be perfect for our ceremony and reception. Our guests agreed! All night long our guests enjoyed the ride up the funicular, hanging out on the balcony and snapping pictures as the sun set over the Grand Rapids skyline.
This place is magical and made our perfect day even more dreamy. The only thing that made me nervous was that we could not get into the space until a few hours before the ceremony, but looking back I chose a few great people to decorate the place exactly how I wanted it and it turned out perfect! This is the best place to rent in GR! You will not be disappointed! -

A beautiful venue and the Zoo staff was lovely to work with. We were a bit disappointed that the funicular was not working on the day of our reception, but the Zoo did provide a trolley to drive our guests from the parking lots up to the Tree House. Not as fun, but it was an acceptable Plan B that they had ready and waiting for us. -

Mix of earthy and elegance
The JB Zoo was a great choice for us. We loved that the Bissell Tree House had an outdoorsy/nature feel and the ballroom was gorgeous. Pros: Staff was easy to work with and the site is easy to locate. You have option to do both ceremony and reception. Cons: Summer schedule is very busy. Have select catering list you.must use. There is no bridal suite, so if you're having your ceremony here plan to have another place to get ready. Also, the site visits and planning rehearsal times were difficult because we weren't assigned a facility coordinator til the last month though upon booking we were told 2-3mo from our date we would have our venue coordinator assigned as our direct person to coordinate. -

Great unique venue
My husband and I got married and had our reception at the Bissell Tree House on 10/6/18. They exceeded our expectations on every front. There are a few things that can make planning the day-of tricky, like only getting 2 hours of time to set up prior to the ceremony, but they made this abundantly clear before we ever signed a contract. We were easily able to set things up (though there wasn't much beyond florals - the venue is gorgeous enough on its own) and take a number of pictures before the ceremony.
Our coordinator Darci was wonderful and kept things on track, even with the funicular down for safety reasons on our wedding day. The shuttles that were used instead were very nice!
We received tons of compliments about the beauty and uniqueness of the venue - no regrets! -

My guests all loved it. We had Darci who was great. The staff the day of the event were extremely attentive. Price wise it’s very comparable to other GR venues. There is zero flexibility and not a lot of time allowed with set up so do plan accordingly for that. -

Dream come true
Having my wedding here was a real life fairytale, the scenery was beautiful and the event space was perfect. They are very flexible and responsive, their spaces for a wedding party is limited and I was very dismayed by only one thing. Taking my review from 10/10 to a 9/10. During our scheduled time it was known by the event planner that I would be changing into my dress before the ceremony in the provided bathroom, during this time while having special moments with my mother and mother in law helping me get zipped up and seeing me put together for the first time zoo staff entered into the restroom, not once or twice but three times. With the amount we paid and a public restroom being a short walk away it was very disheartening and unprofessional. -

The tree house is outstanding. It is a fabulous venue at great place. The flexibility score was lower just due to some of the restrictions that this venue has in comparison to others, including limited hours available for use with large up-charge for more, only being able to use certain caterer, only being able to do rehersal dinner for free IF no one else is renting and only between 9-5, etc. The value was not a 5 because it is very expensive for a short amount of time. My main complaint from the night of the wedding was the air conditioning was either non-existent or not working well, which caused most people to spend the night outside and that left the dance floor nearly empty. -

Bissell Tree House is one of the most beautiful venues in Michigan. My husband and I went to the John Ball Zoo for our first date so we knew that we had to get married and have our reception at the new Tree House. I would not recommend it if you have more than 100 guests as it is not a large venue (we had 50 and it was lovely). We were married out on the terrace and it was beautiful. The whole venue is very modern and beautiful. The sight of Grand Rapids lit up in the background is incredible. The funicular is a little shaky but I don't think anyone minded. My only negative (and its a big negative) is that you cannot set up until 2 hours before your booking. We ended up paying extra for a few extra hours. As it was I was running around getting all the tables and decorations ready, then raced back to the hotel, got dressed and back to the wedding just in time. They do this so that you pay more $$$ to set up early. It is a rip off but the venue is so beautiful we all go along with it. -

I attended a wedding at the bissel tree house. After having a few drinks I was then Carded as they had switched bar tenders. Why was the bar outside? They never called last call inside. It's a beautiful place, but tables were smashed in, head table had no room to even fit behind table. Wrong chairs for this place! Funicular was beautiful as was bissel treehouse. Just some things to keep in mind, no one likes cramped, and be nice. -

terrible wedding venue.
outside ceremony space was so small visibility of couple was limited to 4 rows & noise from zoo overshadowed. Indoor accoustics were very bad. I would never recommend for a wedding -

A little over a year ago I suggested the Bissell Tree House as a reception venue to my sister for her wedding. I love the John Ball Zoo organization and the Bissell Tree house is stunning. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that she would end up feeling embarrassed and taken advantage of. A month before the wedding there was trouble regarding the alcohol pricing. After thinking that everything had been ironed out, also know as forking out more money. We were expecting that the event would go smoothly. Instead the drinks were subpar, very very weak, people were getting "cut off" two hours into the reception, and were refused a last call announcement. Now mind you the contract states "no last call will be made." Don't let this confuse you because this does not mean that last call will not be made by the bar, it means that the father of the bride, the bride and groom, the masters of ceremony, the DJ, and the wedding party will all be refused from making a last call announcement too. At the end of the night my sister and her husband felt embarrassed by the entire situation. It's a shame that such a beautiful location would use such blatantly misleading verbiage and embarrass the bride and groom on their wedding day. -
