Sam Irvin and his team are utterly phenomenal! I got married in Asheville this past weekend, and I cannot do enough to showcase the amazing work they did. Not only did they fit us in less than four weeks before the wedding, they also accommadated our unique wedding timeline spectacularly. Sam was truly a joy to work with, and he made our wedding day such a special and unique experience. Plus, the music was fire!!

Just what we were looking for
Sam was amazing. We hired Sam to perform his solo acoustic guitar for our special day. Wedding at Balsam Mountain
We hired Sam on guitar and Kate on violin to play a selection of classical songs as our guests arrived and for the wedding ceremony followed by more pop tunes at our reception. Hurricane Helene Wedding- Easily Rescheduled w/ Sam
I cannot stress enough how fantastic Sam is as a ceremony musician. We were a Hurricane Helene couple who had to postpone our Asheville wedding from the Fall of 2024 to Spring 2025. We are from out of state, so navigating the storm (literally and figuratively!) presented a challenge.
Sam was recommended to us by our wedding planner, and he was incredibly responsive and easy to work with. Sam was flexible with us when we had to adjust our wedding date, and had no problem with our last minute song changes. I could not recommend him enough and feel so lucky that we had his help and his talent.

A fantastic musician for any event
Sept 2021 - A fantastic upgrade to any event! Sam played at my niece's outdoor wedding in September, and was a joy to have with us that day. His pop and jazz concert prior to the ceremony, the classical music he played for the processionals, and the music at the end and afterwards during photos really elevated the whole morning. He is a talented musician, dresses very well, was super easy to work with regarding the program, showed up on time and is a true professional. I would hire him again in a minute, can't say enough nice things about the whole experience and how easy and beautiful he made it for our family to add music to the day.
Update Nov 2024 - had Sam play at my own wedding and he exceeded expectations again. His music created a beautiful ambiance, without being too loud to hear conversation. He's so talented and professional, I highly recommend him.

We loved working with Sam while we were planning our wedding, and we were so glad to have him play at our reception! Perfect musician for entire wedding day!
As stated in other reviews, Sam is not only a talented performer but also so kind, quick to respond, and such a great energy to be around. His adaptations not only convey the spirit of the original pieces but also, through no doubt much hard work, have been crafted so that they seem as if they were written for the instruments being played. He was so flexible throughout the planning process and was focused on making our day exactly what we wanted.
What might have impressed us most is how adaptable Sam and his team were and how they read the room. They played across several genres throughout the evening, from classics during the ceremony, lively jazz during cocktail hour and dinner, to fun-upbeat tunes during the reception once the crowd wanted to dance! They matched and enhanced the energy in the room all night. Before working with Sam, we saw a ton of great reviews about his classic ceremony music, but not quite as many mentioned if he also played for the reception. Let us reassure you that Sam is up for it all! Their videos online (while great examples of how talented of a musician Sam in) honestly don’t do them justice to their range, their talent, and their energy. Understand that in person they bring a presence and an awareness that just can’t be conveyed any other way than experiencing it.
We highly recommend Sam to anyone reading this, whether for a wedding or honestly any other event, and whether in Asheville or beyond.

Great experience
Based on recommendations, we hired Sam to provide music for our special weekend at the beautiful Pretty Place Chapel and we couldn't have been happier.
Throughout the process he kept in touch, was friendly, helpful, and made sure to get to know our tastes and what would make the day special for us. He even took on the task of learning a few special requests for my groom and our family. All of this while keeping up with a plethora of other cool projects that he was working on at the time. I walked down the aisle to sweet music and got to hear some beautiful tones in the background during our most vulnerable and special time.
He really set the tone and we are forever happy and thankful for that to be a part of our memory of the day forever.

Sam and his duo were an absolute joy on our wedding day. Their music added to the special moments of our wedding ceremony. Their talent is truly a gift and we are so thankful for their art. The perfect musical choice for our wedding.
Sam moved between two locations (backyard wedding and indoor reception) as the guests moved back and forth. He took requests and we let him choose the music he would like to play...no fencing him in. He played classical (for the processional) and then jazz and old standards and more classical. The guests were very complimentary and thoroughly enjoyed the music. We have seen many of our guests (neighbors) over the last week since the wedding. Sam's musical talent comes up in every conversation. We would definitely hire him again!

Sam and his team were incredible throughout the whole process leading up to our wedding. They were on top of communication, and they made sure that our music was going to be exactly how we envisioned it. Sam even sent us videos of the musicians playing, so we could hear some samples! It ended up pouring on our wedding day and our string duo (Dan + Kate) were such troopers. They played beautifully and it was such an elegant touch for our ceremony. A FANTASTIC Musician & A Dream to Work With!
I cannot recommend Sam highly enough! Sam played solo guitar during a post-wedding 2-hour brunch at the Montford Rooftop Bar in downtown Asheville. He was am absolute breeze and dream to work with. He was always professional, responsive and informative during the booking process. He was easy breezy to work with when coordinating some logistics with the Montford team about setup/floor plan needs. At the event itself, his music was fantastic. Beautifully executed and he did a great job of reading the room and playing genres/time periods that resonated with those there. He dressed very nicely for the event and was there early for setup. I felt totally confident and had nothing to worry about/keep track of with him which was helpful since there were so many other logistical details we were managing for the wedding and brunch. He was kind, supportive, encouraging and personable. I cannot recommend Sam enough for a wedding or any event-- you will be over the moon. A real gem :) Thank you, Sam!

A musical experience that we will never forget
Sam gave us a musical experience that we will never forget. He provided the perfect accompaniment with the subtleness that he ensured he would provide. Sam was extremely easy to work with and asked just the right questions to help provide us the experience that we wanted. He was very open to creating an environment that complimented the romantic setting of our wedding. He provided us with an extensive list of songs to choose from. Our discussions with him were over zoom and covered every detail to include the arrangements we had chosen, the order in which they would be played, all the way down to what he would be wearing to help blend into the background. He was also super responsive through email and answered all our questions quickly. He was upfront and fair on his pricing with no hidden fees. Our conversations with him were like speaking with a friend that was doing us a favor. The effort we received from him was precise and professional. He hit every mark on que and treated our wedding as though it was his own. We would highly recommend him to anyone for any event where a consummate professional musician is needed.

I legitimately cannot give a high enough rating for Irvin Music Studio and Kylie B. And the Birds. Five stars doesn't seem like enough. They were one of the best parts of our wedding, and their performance was phenomenal. From the guitar/flute duet at the ceremony to the light music at the cocktail hour, and then the absolutely killer jazz quartet during the reception, everything was beyond our expectations. Sam Irvin made sure we could customize our wedding ceremony music for the entire performance. Kylie B. and the Birds even created an arrangement of one of our favorite songs for our cake cutting, and it was just lovely. If you're looking for a live music performance at your event, you can't get better than this.

Outstanding Music for Ceremony and Cocktail Reception
Recently, Sam and Kate played as a guitar and violin duet at our wedding ceremony and cocktail reception. Our experience working with them was fantastic! Initially, Sam and I had a phone conversation to talk through my partner and my thoughts on the music. Sam was patient walking through various options and showed genuine excitement for our wedding and wanting to make it special! He created arrangements for various songs that we wanted played during the ceremony including Coldplay’s “Yellow” which my wife walked down the aisle to. Their arrangement was perfect, and it made such an important moment even meaningful for me, my wife, and our families and friends. During the cocktail hour, Sam and Kate played a number of arrangements of popular songs that our guests loved! I really enjoyed working with them. They were a big piece of making our wedding special!

Awesome Guitar Soloist
Sam was amazing coordinating all the music for the event from day 1. He helped me with suggestions for the procession and recession as well as preparing a special song that was sing by my sister.
The day of the event he played extraordinary well. Everyone enjoyed his music! He is a great soloist!

I had the best experience with Sam and Kate at my brunch wedding. They were easy to work with and reliable. They were also affordable and well worth their value. They learned Mariah Carey for me along with a few other songs and just did an excellent job.
All of my guests complimented the music!

Kylie B & the Birds did an AMAZING job at our wedding. They set a very lovely, classy and fun tone for both the ceremony and the reception and were able to play everything I requested beautifully. Amazing, professional and talented guitarist!!
We hired Sam to perform acoustic guitar at our wedding a few weeks ago in the NC mountains. We live in SW Florida so planning an event out of state isn't easy. Sam was so easy and wonderful to work with, from the initial email to the wedding day, professional all the way. We knew we wanted him to be part of our day when heard how talented he is, it blew us away. He allowed us to choose our music and he played them beautifully. The sweet sounds of the acoustic guitar echoed through the valley as I was walking down the isle....it was so perfect. I would hire Sam again in a heartbeat. Zero issues, he exceeded our already high expectations. Thanks Sam!!!

I hired Sam to play during my surprise proposal
Sam was excellent. I hired Sam to be a part of my surprise proposal to my girlfriend. It was a country song which he usually doesn't play, however he learned the song in a matter of days, and played/sang it beautifully. In the planning process he would either call or respond to texts immediately, and gave his best suggestions and was engaged in the logistics. I highly recommend Sam. He made our proposal incredibly memorable.

A fantastic upgrade to any event!
Sam played at my niece's outdoor wedding in September, and was a joy to have with us that day. His pop and jazz concert prior to the ceremony, the classical music he played for the processionals, and the music at the end and afterwards during photos really elevated the whole morning. He is a talented musician, dresses very well, was super easy to work with regarding the program, showed up on time and is a true professional. I would hire him again in a minute, can't say enough nice things about the whole experience and how easy and beautiful he made it for our family to add music to the day.

Great Experience!!!
My wife and I asked Sam to play at our outdoor wedding in August of 2021 and our expectations were far exceeded but both his professionalism and his musicianship. We planned our own wedding and we were interested in vendors that worked well with us, the venue, and our guests. When we spoke with Sam, he was prompt with his communication and very flexible with the services he was able to offer. This continued through the entire planning process, which proved very comforting when planning a wedding from three states away. On our wedding day, he was able to adapt his performance to the venue and the weather. He was more than happy to coordinate with our DJ and the transition was seamless. This included moving his equipment after the ceremony to continue playing for cocktail hour and hustling up the big hill to cover when it started raining. When he resumed playing and the rain had cleared, he played “Here comes the Sun”, adding another memory to our already unforgettable day. Both my wife and myself come from families filled with life-long musicians. Her and I both studied music in college and continue to enjoy music in our lives. It was refreshing to work with a wedding vendor that could “speak” our language and provide a very individualized performance. Perhaps the most thoughtful thing that Sam did was arrange a song for us and give us a framed copy of the arrangement as a gift. This act exemplifies his eagerness to make every event amazing. If you are looking for a professional artist that will make your event exactly what you want, we strongly recommend using Sam and Irvin Music Studio!

Impeccable grace in holding a spiritual container
Sam and Kate were an indispensable element to the magic of our wedding. They not only played a beautiful set that we specifically arranged from their list of songs, but they impeccably learned four additional songs that have special meaning for me and my (now) wife--and the music of which was not all easy to find! They took the time to understand our ceremony schedule and play the special requests at their specific times--offering us a spiritual experience and gift that will remain in our hearts forever and brought special power, sublimity and endurance to the ceremony and vows. The Perfect Rehearsal Dinner or Wedding Trio
The Irvin Music Studio group was everything we could have asked for and more. We hired them as a trio to play at our rehearsal dinner which was an indoor/outdoor venue. We requested them to play background music throughout the night. Each musician played multiple instruments and the music really was lovely. It was never too loud or too much... it was perfect. We had multiple compliments from our guests on how talented they were. They played a few songs requested on the spot that they didn't know as a group, but somehow still made it happen for our guests. They were professional, on time, and very prompt with emails. We could not have been more happy with the choice we made!

Excellent and professional musician
Sam was awesome! We had booked another musician who was very unprofessional and backed out a week before our wedding. I contacted Sam and he was available and willing to perform on our wedding day. He even drove 3 hours one way to come play for us! He got to the church early, was dressed very nice, and treated everyone with respect and professionalism. He also played very well and was able to play all the songs I had requested and he even played a special recording that I had asked him to download and play during our rope tying ceremony. I would definitely hire him again! One thing I really appreciated about Sam was the fact that he was very responsive to me. Even if he was unable to answer my questions, he’d shoot me a quick note to let me know he’d be getting back to me. I was so grateful that he was able to come through for us last minute. Sam is the BEST!
Sam was an amazing addition to our private wedding ceremony in the Asheville area last weekend. We had an amazing setting with mountains, the sun setting, and Sam was a perfect addition to our day. He arrived on time, was easy to plan with prior to the event, and his music was AMAZING!!! We had a Lord of the Rings style wedding location and Sam was able to add a variety of music themes and songs for our ceremony and was very intuitive on when and where to insert songs while we had our ceremony and played background music during our pictures with our photographer. It was absolutely a perfect day and I would recommend Sam Irvin to anyone looking for music for any special event!!!

Perfect Wedding Choice
Sam was the guitarist at our wedding and he did such a lovely job. He is very easy to communicate with and is prompt in his responses. Sam and Kate were phenomenal! They exceeded our expectations in every way imaginable. We live in central NC and needed Asheville-based musicians to play for our wedding ceremony. Finding Irvin Music studio was simply terrific luck. They were: quickly responsive to our inquiry, made the process so easy, very flexible, charming, and extremely talented. They showed up early (they were set up before we even arrived) and played a beautiful repertoire of subtle music for even longer than we had hoped while our guests arrived before and mingled after the service. Incredible wedding musician
We hired Sam to play solo guitar for our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour and it was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. He is responsive, kind, and most importantly, he is an incredible musician. If you read nothing else from this review, just know, you should hire him!!!
From the first time I reached out, Sam was incredibly responsive. When I emailed him to inquire about his availability for our date, he got back to me quickly and we spoke on the phone the same day about what I was looking for and what he could offer. I knew from the moment I spoke to him that we would hire him for our wedding not only because of his responsiveness, but also his friendliness and his evident passion for music.
Our plans changed just a couple of weeks before our wedding, and given our new plans, Sam would still be playing for when we scheduled our first dance in our timeline. We had kind of an obscure song that we wanted for our first dance and I knew it was likely too much to ask for Sam to arrange it and learn it in advance of our wedding. Well, I was wrong, because Sam eagerly and without hesitation agreed to learn our song; he arranged and played it beautifully and gave us a framed copy of the sheet music. It was one of the most special moments of our entire wedding day. I will always remember how beautifully Sam played for us, as will our guests. Everyone commented on his talent the entire evening and the rest of the weekend.
Just do yourself a favor and hire Sam!! You will not be disappointed!

Sam was a wonderful addition to our wedding! We had a small semi-outdoor ceremony of less than 30 people. He filled our ceremony and cocktail hour with lovely music. He created the best vibe for our venue. I found him less than month before our wedding and he worked with us and all my questions and concerns. Sam is so lovely and great addition to help build our dream wedding day!

Amazing guitar player for wedding
My husband and I first met Sam when we were looking for a classical guitarist to play at our intimate wedding ceremony. We had a thirty minute chat over the phone with Sam, and knew that we were in fantastic hands! He had great perspective and helped us fill in the blanks where we did not know what kind of music we wanted. We asked him to learn a few new songs for us, and he learned/played them expertly! On our wedding day, Sam was an absolute professional, showing up on time and handling setup with ease. The music was beautiful and we could not have asked for a better player. If you are looking for a classical guitarist who has an extensive repertoire but also can pick up a couple new songs, Sam is absolutely your guy!

Wedding guitarist
We used Sam for our aisle music and for a cocktail hour. He went above and beyond anything we could have asked for and was so amazing. We got tons of compliments, especially for the down the aisle music, and I will be recommending him for all my friends.

Excellent Musician
Sam is a very talented guitarist. He played on the porch of my bed & breakfast and it was an excellent experience. I would highly recommend him to anyone. He was also early, started on time and played to the last minute. He is easy to work with and just a very nice person.

Irvin and Kylie B. and the Birds
Sam Irvin and the rest of Kylie B. and The Birds were an absolute pleasure to work with. Sam's communication before the event was professional and punctual, which made booking a breeze. The event itself ran very smoothly and Sam and the rest of the Birds provided us a beautiful background of jazz. The Birds are very talented and their music was laden with arpeggiated guitar runs, soft brass, and beautiful fretless bass melodies that make a cohesive canvas for Kylie. Kylie's voice was just as incredible as the rest of the band and gave the event quiet vibrato and strong vocal runs that melted into each arrangement with ease. I hope to coordinate another event in Asheville soon, because Kylie B. and the Birds will be my first choice!

One of the best decisions we made for our wedding.
Samuel was responsive from the beginning and all the way through. He was flexible in accommodating song selections. He provided the groom and me video clips of his playing, and was willing to travel to our remote outdoor location. As the bride, I was able to quickly and easily make the choice to go with Samuel and not have to think about it again. Samuel showed up and delivered. He even was able to wing-it when our minister went off-script. Our guests really enjoyed his playing. He was an important accompaniment to our perfect wedding day.
