Great to work with!

On a day with a lot of stress, Ian made things easy and comfortable. We wanted a casual wedding in Monterey, complete with photos of us watching for wildlife in our binoculars. Ian made it all happen and I'm so excited about the resulting photos! I feel he captured the energy of the day and the beauty of our location.

Amazing experience

Ian Martin was the photographer for our small wedding ceremony. He was caring and made us feel at ease. He even took a picture for my grandma on her disposable camera ! So sweet, it turned out great. The professional pictures he took were more than I could ever have hoped for. We would definitely recommend him to anyone needing professional pictures taken. We even received our pictures before we expected. Great experience!

Great experience!

We eloped in Garrapata State Park, and the photos Ian took came out beautifully! Ian is very nice and easy to work with. He captured the ceremony wonderfully. Afterwards, he guided us along an easy walking trail that provided a lot of different backdrops, which was exactly what we wanted (the area is absolutely beautiful)! Ian made it really easy to obtain digital copies of the photos and kindly gave us color and b&w versions for each one in a timely manner. Highly recommend!

I am so in love with our photos from Ian. Everybody looks amazing and he captured many key moments beautifully. Incredibly, I don't look like as much of a dork as I normally do in photographs. That takes some skill!
Ian was very professional from the planning stages through the entire big day. He put up with my uncertainty, unexpected circumstances, and several impromptu guest requests extremely well. For a photographer working solo, he did great and managed to be nearly everywhere at once.
Thank you, Ian. We will cherish these captured moments all our lives and we are so grateful for your hard work and patience on our wedding day.

Highly Recommended!

Of all the vendors we hired for our wedding, hiring a photographer was the toughest task for us because there were so many good ones to chose from, and we really cared about getting photos that captured both the look and feel of our wedding day. Ian was fantastic and was just what we were looking for.

From the start, Ian was great with communication, responding promptly and clearly via email and making time to meet with us in-person at his studio.

On the day of the wedding, he was friendly, patient, and fun to spend time with. He was prompt and accommodating as we corralled our large families for pre-wedding portraits at a beautiful spot on the coast that Ian picked out. We actually finished early! And when we did, he took us to another spot up in the Monterey Pine forests nearby for an impromptu photo session with just the two of us. Which was kinda magical.

As for the wedding itself, Ian did a great job of capturing the essence and "story" of the day through lots of candid photos (which is what we wanted!). And when we needed him for a posed group shot, he was there in a flash. We are very pleased with how all the photos turned out. Thank you, Ian!

Ian's photos of our Big Sur wedding are incredible and we could not be happier with them. He perfectly captured our special day and knew exactly where to take us on Post Ranch Inn's property to capture amazing backdrops. I loved working with Ian. Our wedding was a destination wedding so everything was planned from a distance. Ian and I emailed to plan everything and he was extremely responsive. He responded within 24 hours to all my of my questions. My first time meeting Ian was actually on our wedding day and he was fantastic to work with. We had created a list of photos that I wanted and he ensured to capture everyone. He had photographed at our venue before and knew all the best spots! We were very happy with the quality of service on the wedding day and after. We received our wedding photos in 5 weeks and are extremely happy with the photos. Ian was the photographer for our wedding. In addition to being an absolute sweetheart and a pleasure - blessing - to work with, he is a true artist. Ian is fantastic - professional and serious at appropriate times but also approachable and fun. Ian was amazing. It's important for me to meet our vendors in person and have a strong rapport with them before the actual wedding day. Ian is a class act. We're so glad that we chose him. This was actually one of the first vendors that we booked because it was so important for us to have a high quality photographer. We met with Ian at his studio in Carmel and were immediately impressed by his ease and professionalism. We really felt like he offered us an impressive package for a very good price. On the day of our wedding, we understood exactly what Ian meant about being "unobtrusive." There are so many moments that we didn't even know where he was and yet the photos show that he was in the middle of the action. That is the sign of a great photographer. We want to capture those unscripted moments and are very happy with the results. As a LGBTQ couple, we wanted someone who we felt comfortable and ourselves with and I think Ian was a great choice for us. We highly recommend him!

When planning a wedding, most try and cut costs and delegate to family/friends to keep the price down. There are a few items that need to as planned like the food, DJ, and of course photographer. There are no retakes down the road if the photographer gets bad pictures.
After sifting through recommendations and wedding websites, I found Ian Martin's site, after looking over his website and reading reviews, we knew he was the only one we wanted to photo our wedding.
Ian responds quickly to emails and called me to confirm the details, we set up a meeting a month before the wedding to discuss the big day. Ian was very easy to talk to and asked great questions to get a feel for the people attending and pictures we wanted.
On the big day he bounced around the venue getting pictures of the setup, my wife and I getting ready and more.
His pictures of the ceremony, family pics after, and the reception were beautiful and truly perfect!
Another reason we chose Ian was he offered several photo packages and time options, along with all the full size pictures online which you can download, with the option to purchase prints from him if you choose. He does not charge per picture like other photographers.
We can't say enough good things about his photography skills, and will recommend him to anyone looking for a photo journalist!

In addition to being a gifted photographer, Ian was a pleasure to work with both before and during our daughter's wedding in September. He listened to what we wanted, and followed through with wonderful photos of the day, both posed and candid. Our daughter initially didn't want a photographer, as she thought of them as intrusive. Ian proved her wrong on that point. He was very good at blending in with the group and capturing memorable moments without being noticed. But when asked, he was able to get people together quickly and make everyone fell comfortable for some great portraits. His photographs turned out beautiful, and we were all very impressed, especially given the middle of the day bright lighting he had to deal with much of the time. Ian is friendly, flexible, professional and very talented. I would highly recommend him.

The moment I clicked onto Ian's website while looking for a photographer for our intimate elopement in the redwoods of Big Sur, I knew we had found our photographer-all his photos were relaxed, natural and outdoorsy, just plain gorgeous! He was responsive and great in communicating with and getting everything set up for the big day. Even though we weren't able to meet with him before the day of the wedding, we felt totally comfortable with him immediately. He captured beautiful shots of us getting ready and knew the area very well, even took us down to beautiful Pfeiffer Beach and got some amazing photos there! He had loads of ideas, was passionate, and friendly.

We could not be happier with the photographs and we have had so many comments of how he captured the happiness and love of our wedding!

Ian was a flat-out fantastic photographer -- we could not have asked for anything more! He was a great communicator both before and after we signed our contract and was responsive to follow-up questions after our wedding. Though we gave him little direction -- only a set of desired family photos -- he produced an incredible set of photos that told the 'story' of our wedding. He captured many amazing moments throughout our wedding and reception, and impressively did so very discreetly -- we hardly noticed him! I am so grateful that I found Ian, who was available to photograph our wedding at Pebble Beach. He is an absolute pleasure to work with - he was response, flexible to our needs, attentive and a joy to be around. Above all else, his work speaks for itself. When I first went onto Ian's website, I knew he was a superb photographer. I loved his style, candid photography and use of light. He was definitely our first choice. But, just to be sure, I also interviewed a couple other photographers and a few things stood out to me. First, I found Ian to be more flexible than other photographers. He customized a package that was exactly what we wanted - everything from the actual images we'd received to the number of spots he would take us to after the ceremony (along 17-mile Drive). Second, with Ian - what you see is what you get. Since we were having a smaller ceremony, a lot of other photographers said they would send their assistants or partners out to our wedding. I think it's imperative to know exactly who is photographing your wedding. While Ian's prices are very reasonable, this was an area that I was willing to spend more on. These photos represent the memories that will last a lifetime. I truly can not be more happy with the photos that Ian has gifted me with... they are absolutely phenomenal and I am confident that this is because of Ian. His reviews on this website speak for themselves, as do his photos. Without hesitation, I would recommend Ian over and over again.

I chose Ian Martin to photograph my daughter's wedding on June 12, 2015 at the Brazilian Room in Tilden Park (Berkeley, CA) and am so glad I did! Since the bride's father could not attend the wedding it was so important to hire a photographer that could capture the people and emotions of this blessed day. Ian did not disappoint! Out of several photographers I reviewed and interviewed, Ian was an obvious choice. His style of photography and his gentle and easy going manner made him so easy to work with and the finished photos are gorgeous! Several different people told me separately that they actually felt they attended the wedding after looking at the pictures. You could just feel the emotions pouring out of the photos. This just confirmed what I hired him for! Ian was very professional throughout the entire process. I cannot say enough about Ian! I had a small wedding in Big Sur, CA. When I started planning, I wasn't sure I wanted a photographer. I wanted the day to be as "natural" as possible and didn't want a photographer ruining that atmosphere. As I was talking to a friend, she referred me to Ian, as she attended a wedding he was shooting. From the moment I contacted him and met him, I knew he was the perfect guy! He understood my concerns and assured me he would capture every moment and I wouldn't even know he was around. He held true to his word. The pictures are breathtaking. We were married at Holman Ranch on 4/11/15, and Ian was our photographer. This was one of our biggest decisions when planning; we met with 6 different photographers! I was instantly comfortable with Ian. Before meeting him, I had myself convinced that I needed two photographers to get the coverage I was looking for, however Ian changed my mind on this and I couldn't be happier. He did such a wonderful job and captured the day perfectly! He was very quick and responsive during the planning process and explained everything. We also wanted to actually attend our cocktail hour, and Ian made this happen! He got us through the formal photos and we had 30 minutes to mingle with our guests. My favorite thing about Ian is his photojournalistic style. I believe our photos came out so much more natural because he was able to catch the essence of our day with the 'in the moment' photos. We loved all of the photos! We are having a hard time selecting the photos for the album since they are all perfect! Can't recommend him enough! If you are planning your wedding from afar as we did, he is perfect in this regard also - very reachable!

We could not have been more pleased with Ian! We flew into Carmel from out of town and I just happened to stumble upon his website. I had a different photographer lined up already, but once I saw Ian's website, I knew he was the one for us! Due to rain, we had to scramble at the last minute to find an alternative location and Ian could not have been more calm and flexible. Once the rain let up, I really wanted to go to the beach to get some shots by the water (the origional plan was to get married on Carmel city beach). I had asked about going there and instead Ian recommended a secluded, rocky beach with huge crashing waves. I trusted his judgement and I am SO glad that I did!! The pictures were AMAZING. You will not regret using Ian!

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. That depends on the photographer. Some pictures are worth four words: here is my friend, here is the ocean. Ian Martin writes poems with his photos. As our wedding photographer, he managed to both document our special day and capture and highlight all the emotions of the day. He also managed to get almost all 85 guests in pictures and very efficiently wrangled all the wandering relatives for the posed group shots. In all the festivity, we somehow managed to not get a picture of our wedding rings on our hands, and he scheduled an additional session in his studio to add those shots.

We were looking for a wedding photojournalism type of photographers. We did some extensive research and could not quite find the photographer we wanted. A friend of ours mentioned Ian - and it was clearly a great fit for us. We looked at Ian's portfolio and we knew instantly he was the one. Ian is extremely professional, responsive, flexible and discreet: our wedding photos are gorgeous, fun and beyond our expectations. Thanks to him we are able to relive our epic day (because it does go in a blink!). We have no hesitation in recommending him. Two words: HIRE HIM!.

When shopping for a photographer for our wedding - we were particular in capturing the essence of the day - not simple a series of staged moments. The additional challenge of planning a wedding from a distance made the decision all the more intricate.
Just viewing Ian's website demonstrated that he provided a photo journalistic quality to his work - just what we were looking for. Ian was incredibly friendly and easy going from the very beginning. When expressing my concern to find time to meet prior to the wedding, he eased my mind by addressing the fact that many of his photographs are of people he's only just met moments before - yet his photography appears he's known them a lifetime.

In the weeks and days leading up to the wedding Ian was very professional and very organized. We covered details shortly before the big day. On the wedding day, he rolled with plans that continued to shift as different parts of the wedding party were more ready than others. He even delivered the tux to the groom!!!! His demeanor and relaxed nature were just what we all needed.

THEN! The final result! The photos themselves! Words cannot define how amazing they are. Truthfully, we're a bit paralyzed about putting an order together, because we love them all. The glances, the holding of hands, the physical emotions, the touching family togetherness, the energy of the day are all captured in cherished photos. What Ian did with color, with framing, with daylight, with movement, are beyond what we had even dared to hope for.

If you want a wedding album full of staged photos, don't use Ian.
If, on the other hand, you prefer an album filled with the loving story of your wedding day, by all means, hurry up and book Ian as your photographer.

I am so, so happy that my husband and I chose Ian Martin Wedding Photojournalism for our wedding photos. Ian was incredibly easy to work with, friendly, and, most importantly, super talented. I'm normally not a fan of having my photo taken, and he took the stress out of it all.

On to the photos: they were even better than what I was hoping for, and I had set a pretty high bar. Ian does no't overly photoshop anything, does not over-stage pictures, and has the ability to capture simply stunning shots. If we had to do our wedding all over again, we'd rebook him in a heartbeat - simple as that.

It was a big decision to choose a photographer for our wedding and I am so happy we went with Ian Martin. First of all, he was so easy going and accommodating with all our questions and worries. It was great that he was a photojournalist which we felt he really told a story rather than just taking pictures. What a story he told with the fantastic results! We had a great experience with Ian. He did a great job of really capturing the fun and the happiness of our special day, and the photos are beautiful. I love the way he can capture the unplanned, unposed moments of the day that were so special. Ian Martin was a true professional--he made us feel comfortable, made us laugh, and was super easy to be around. The photographs turned out so beautifully. He really captured the spirit of the day, as well as the beautiful environment of Pfeiffer Beach/Big Sur. We are having a VERY hard time choosing which photos to frame. Ian is a very talented, professional, and courteous photographer! We were absolutely thrilled with the quality of the photographs by Ian Martin, and when I received the photos (early I might add!), I had a smile from ear to ear. Ian has a natural talent, and he makes you feel so comfortable in front of the camera that you forget the camera is there. I am a fairly camera shy person, and Ian made me feel so "myself" in front of the camera that he was able to capture very natural shots with ease! There are so many beautiful photos from my Wedding Day that I am having trouble picking which one to frame the biggest! He has a very unobtrusive style, which helps a Bride and Groom to remain "in the moment" while they enjoy their Wedding Day. Ian always responded quickly to any of my questions and was very courteous. He is a true professional!

Working with Ian was absolutely fabulous. As a former wedding photographer myself, finding the perfect person to photograph my own wedding was very important. We had picked three photographers to choose from and interview, and knew from the very first phone call that Ian was "the one". The other two we contacted either did not return the call at the time they promised and/or we just did not "mesh" with them nearly as much as Ian. I was a little worried signing a contract with a photographer we had never met in person, but have no regrets whatsoever.
Ian was open to all questions and requests - he was very patient throughout the process and extremely professional. He answered any inquiry the same day. He was willing and ready to do whatever shots we wanted. From what I hear, brides usually have a list of photos at specific times with certain groups of people, etc. We, on the other hand, wanted more impromptu shots, and less posed ones. Ian was fine with that (and absolutely exceeded our expectations) - again, I'm sure he would be a superstar with any setting or requirements.
Ian captured moments of the wedding that I missed - it's been very entertaining filling in the missing pieces of the day and night. His mannerisms are so noninvasive and easygoing - I still have guests that thought he was a long-lost cousin or uncle with a camera dancing in the crowd. Everybody loved him!
My only concern at the beginning that I had asked Ian upfront is his ability to capture all the different angles of the ceremony since it is just him without any other assistants. He assured me both through his word and viewing the wedding pics on his website - he can do it. Again, I trusted in him, and again, he surpassed every expectation.
He sends his photos out as promised about a month after the wedding, both online and via mail with a CD. The CD is organized with three different formats and all three viewable in color or B&W. And he's available for questions even months after the wedding as well. Top-notch customer service!
I would definitely recommend Ian, and in fact I already have. I would work with him again in a heartbeat! ;-)

Ian is incredible at capturing moments in incredible ways that can touch you back and really allow you to relive your special weekend. In addition to capturing moments as they happen, he also has great ideas for staging a shot that looks natural. He listens to what is important to you and delivers.

He provides every shot in black&white and color, all in 3 different resolutions and identifies his favorites which allows prompt use until you have time to look through all of the shots yourself. He was very responsive - would typically get a reply or call back within 24 hours if not same day.

Lastly, we really liked him as a person and enjoyed working with him.

Ian did a great job for our wedding in Monterey at The Perry House. He really stuck with taking photos that represented what we asked for. For example, we requested to NOT have any cheesy poses or photos of rings and shoes and really to focus on candid shots of the two of us and our guests. He did a great job with our request. Ian was also great at keeping people on task when it came to getting the group photos taken after the ceremony! He got us through all the photos AND we still had a little time to enjoy the appetizers and cocktails with our guests prior to dinner. I highly recommend spending a little bit more on photography for your wedding so that you can have Ian preserve your memories just exactly the way you want it done!

Ian is beyond wonderful!! His work speaks for itself. beautifully lit. thoughtfully framed and heaven only knows how he manages to get to know you just well enough to capture special and intimate moments throughout your celebrations. Ian is an amazing Photojournalist. We didn't see him most of the time and somehow he captured the moment beautifully. I don't know how he does it! After seeing Ian's work we booked him right away. We loved his style and the natural ease in his photos. We are so happy that we can relive our wedding with these incredible photographs.

Aside from being talented, Ian is very pleasant and fun to work with.

I would absolutely recommend Ian to anyone looking for a photographer for their wedding. I researched about 4 different companies and my first phone call with Ian was so relaxed and conversational. He made us feel comfortable right off the bat.
I had a destination wedding so we didn't officially meet until the wedding day. As soon as he came into the room he had my bridesmaids and nephew smiling and laughing. Ian is so easy to work with we're very happy we chose him for our wedding day.
The pictures are so great as well. We really liked that his style is more 'photojournalism' and not a ton of overly posed pictures. We did do some group photos and bride/groom posed photos which came out beautifully but some of my favorites are those that he captured in the moment.
Great photographer!!

We first chose Ian because we were impressed by his online portfolio. After meeting him, he put us at ease, and we knew he was the right fit for our wedding day - a true pro.

Upon receiving our photos, we were blown away. Ian provided a link to an online gallery, in addition to a CD containing all high-resolution photos in color and black & white. Working with Ian was one of the easiest and most rewarding parts of wedding planning. Ian has a great personality and was easygoing yet very organized. Ian is a delight to work with. He has an easy personality and upbeat demeanor that put everyone at ease. There just simply are not enough words to appropriately describe the wonderfulness that Ian Martin is behind a camera. Even before he got behind a camera, I was completely in awe of his professionalism and experience. I "signed" our contract on our first phone call, and then when we met Ian in person for our engagement shoot - my husband and I were completely WOW-ed!! He put us at such ease taking our photos (which is kinda hard to do with the pressure of engagement shoots, right?) Ian went out of his way to make our wedding day extra special; he arrived to the venue early, and rode in the limo with us, he completely put our happiness and our photojournalism first and the pictures are absolutely stunning to prove it. My husband has already said, "maybe he can do our baby pictures?" Ian gets 10 stars out of 5 if you ask me!!

Ian was amazing!!! He captured every moment of our wedding so perfectly. He managed to be everywhere, with out being noticed. He is a very talented photo journalist. We will forever be grateful to Ian for helping us cherish and remember one of the best days/ times of our life.

He was wonderful in every way, professional, creative, flexible, and passionate.
You can tell from his work he really loves what he does.

Our wedding was a long day for Ian, full of love, fun and laughter. Ian went above and beyond. He was hired to be there from 11am to 9pm. He got there at 10 am and started getting a feel for the place and snapping shots. When 9 o'clock rolled around he came to say good bye my husband and I , but the wedding was still in full swing so he kept taking pictures past his contracted time. He just could not pass on capturing the moment.

Ian also made the extra effort to come to our Venue ( Stillwater Overlook in Pebble beach) the day before and get a better feeling for the place since he had never been there before. We ran over plans for the next day.

To make him even more amazing, the day before the wedding when he came to the Venue he took some wonderful photos of my Grandfather (who has Alzheimer's and was having a " good day") with the family, since we had no idea what the next day would be like. He took advantage of the moment. We will cherish those photos forever.

We were so fortunate to have found Ian to capture our big day. Thanks to Ian we will have fantastic photos to remember our unforgettable wedding day!!

Contracting Ian Martin was one of the best things we could have done for our wedding!

Ian was fantastic. He's relaxed and laid back, and took a lot of great pictures without getting in everyone's face.

Plus, he's a great resource, since he's worked at so many weddings. During the reception, every time we weren't sure what we were supposed to be doing, we'd just ask him. He knew about all the traditions but wasn't pushy about anything.

Plus you get the electronic files for the photos, so you don't have to spend a lot of extra money on prints.

Ian was the best! His skills as a photojournalist were appreciated greatly. All our photos were taken in a casual professional way that enabled the bride, groom and guests to enjoy this special day. The finished photo product turned out to be unbelievable making the outside/inside settings spectacular. We want to return to our wedding site soon, the photography is such a pleasure to see. Ian both documented and captured the mood of our outdoor daytime Bay Area wedding without resorting to posed snapshots.

Ian was great with my husband, who pretty much has zero tolerance for posing for photos. Our couples shots are very natural and beautiful.

Ian was great with my guests, capturing the moments and yet not getting in the way.

The photos themselves (digital and hard copy) were high quality.

Regarding the style of the final prints -- Ian's style is to soften the edges of the final photos with a subtle but perceptible dark filter of perhaps 2-5% on just the borders of the total frame. I love the sort-of mid-century modern quality that the final images have as a result. You just have to be OK with that look.

I saw a lot of other (talented) wedding photographers with different styles, including bright and super-saturated colors (like candy colors); sepia/yellow-y 70s-style with rounded edges; highly posed "now all 16 bridesmaids hold these matching pink parasols, jump in the air and say cheese!" look. Ian's style is altogether different than any of those. For us, it was perfect.

I highly recommend Ian and his work.

My husband and I were so impressed with the service that Ian Martin provided for us. When we first met Ian, he was immediately down to earth, funny and friendly with us. It is easy to communicate with him, to ask questions and have them answered and to collaborate towards a shared vision for capturing your special wedding day. His photojournalism artwork is provocative and expertly executed; his wedding photography is personal, vibrant and creative. Ian really honored the "in the moment" style of photography we had asked for. He was flexible, on time and our guests were charmed by his wit and playfulness and said they felt very comfortable with Ian. Ian was also patient and timely with my million bride emails asking for help with different details along the way!
The photos are stunning. We had such an eclectic, fun and loving wedding and celebration and Ian undoubtedly captured that feeling.

There is nothing more important to a wedding than the photography. We
couldn't be happier about, not only the photos, but the way Ian
treated us on our special day. He was so much fun to work with he felt like a part of the family! I will never understand how he managed to always be in the right place at the right time without ever intruding on our intimate moments. He told our story so beautifully! Ian took incredible pictures of our wedding. He took the time to get to know us, and the photographs really reflect our style--they aren't just some standard wedding pictures. He was terrific at handling our two very large families for the family portrait, including elderly relatives who couldn't walk well or stand for long--and squirmy kids. He was so easygoing and kind to everyone--but really got the job done efficiently. My husband hates photographs, but somehow Ian got him to look relaxed and happy in almost every shot. He took so many great pics during the ceremony, and we never saw him during it. I'm still not sure how he managed to be so unobtrusive and still take such great pics.
You can't go wrong hiring Ian--you will get incredibly creative and beautiful pictures and get to work with a genuinely nice guy.

We had our wedding at the Brazilian Room in Tilden Park and found Ian's name on the the vendor list provided during a wedding fair.

After talking with a couple of photographers, we knew Ian was the perfect match. He is very personable, professional, and had great photos! We also LOVED the fact he provided us with our photos on a disc automatically, rather than charging for this as many other photographers do. We also appreciated the fact he did not include the price of an album in his fees. While he offered this as a service, it was not mandatory, like many of the other people we looked at. (We just created a book using iPhoto on the Mac and they came out great with the photos we got from Ian! There are also programs to do this on a Windows machine.)

We highly recommend Ian's services and also loved the fact he was the one who recommended our florist who also turned out to be simply amazing (Chestnut and Vine in Berkeley).

Ian is fantastic to work with. He also takes fantastic photos. He captured some great night shots as well as all the important moments of the day. He sent our photo DVD to us very quickly (within 5 weeks) and had our online gallery up and running at about the same time.

He is very professional yet laid back. He has a great vibe about him.

We had Ian for our wedding, which took place at the Brazil Room in Tilden Park on August 2010. Ian was simply great and we cannot recommend him enough. He was pleasant, patient, and professional, he brought tons of good vibes to the event, and his photos really captured the atmosphere of our wedding. Flipping through the album, we were very happy with the results, and felt like we were re-living the entire thing.

In selecting a photographer for our wedding, it was important that the story be told photographically as the day really occurred. Ian accomplished exactly that, his talent as a photojournalist is evident in the photos of the day. He has a knack for artistically capturing the details of a story and communicating the overall event as well as interesting nuances. Ian Martin was referred to us by a friend of my husbands. She said that when Ian is photographing a wedding, he has a way of making everyone feel comfortable. We met Ian for a drink to look at his beautiful photography portfolios and knew right away that he would the perfect choice for us, especially since we were interested in a journalistic and creative approach to wedding photography.

Our wedding ceremony was at SF City Hall, and our reception was at Foreign Cinema Restaurant. Ian was able to capture the grandeur and elegance of City Hall and the fun, chic and cinematic atmosphere of Foreign Cinema. Our photographs are beautiful, unique, fun, and very touching; a truly great memory of a very important event in our life.

Friends and family who have seen our pictures are full of compliments which include "He made some really original choices", and "I am sad I missed it all and happy to have your album, it made me feel like I was there, a part of your lovely day. The happiness you radiate in every photo is just so palpable. Whoever took these photos did a marvelous job of capturing the joy and style of this day".

We couldn't have asked for a better wedding photographer! Not only was he a lot of fun to work with, he certainly captured many of the natural interactions that were happening between people. There were many times that we didn't even notice that he was there/taking a photo, and sure enough, he single-handedly captured many happy moments. He was very accommodating with the photo shoots before and after the ceremony. And, because we needed to put together a photo slideshow for our second wedding reception abroad several weeks later, he gave us the link to the photos within the provided timeline. I haven't been able to stop looking through his beautiful documentation of our wedding day and reliving every moment of it!

We love how beautifully Ian Martin captured the joy and special candid moments throughout our wedding day, especially the reception! We love looking back through our album and love that we have the disc to print the photos ourselves. He was very friendly, helpful and responsive during our conversations in the planning period. He was also very organized, understanding and thorough regarding what we wanted, what he needed and what we should keep in mind, etc., for a smooth and successful day. He respected our wishes to keep the formal photo shoot down to about 30 minutes or so, which was wonderful!... he had a down-to-business group management style, but ultimately it was necessary to get everyone in and out and to the party like we wanted. We are very happy we chose Ian to capture our wedding!

Ian came highly recommended and this turned out to be an accurate comment. All of our pre planning, all of the details we worked out, a lot of them at his suggestion, were met with a much better outcome than we assumed. A good photographer grabs those moments through their lens that do not call for posing, but for that natural instinct to capture that moment without staging....Ian certainly showed his professionalism by shooting our wedding with a lot of those moments that will last not only in print but also in our memories. The results of his expertise with his camera, lenses and lighting while moving throughout our wedding resulted in pictures that we are very, very happy with.

I hired Ian 3 weeks after I was engaged and just knew from his website and my continuous online searching that he was the guy for us!!! Man, was I right on!! Ian's pictures of our wedding really captured the moments and the love that filled the air that day. I have family and clients that I show my wedding pictures to and they ALL love them, saying it's like we were straight from a bridal magazine!! He's not cheap, but you do get a whole package of a reAlly cool guy and a FABULOUS photographer!

Ian was easy to work with and was very flexible. I was so busy on my big day and did not have time to brief Ian so I just let him do his job. The photos came out great. My husband and I love the pictures! The flush album is also a great way to refresh our sweet memories of the day.

I am glad that I have the opportunity to work with Ian and would recommend him to prospective brides and grooms!
