Wow! Where do I even begin? I first discovered DJ Hype (Marcus) on The Knot after seeing all the amazing reviews. He also came highly recommended by a few of my coworkers whose weddings he had done, so I felt confident reaching out.
From the moment I first contacted him, the entire process was smooth and easy. When we met in person, he walked me through how everything works and helped me choose the right package for our wedding. Marcus has a friendly yet professional personality, and after hearing how passionate he is about his work, I knew right away he would be the perfect DJ for our big day.
On the day of our wedding, I had a mini panic attack, and Marcus went above and beyond, comforting me and offering words of encouragement that helped calm me down. That moment alone showed how much he truly cares about his couples, not just the job.
He absolutely crushed it as a DJ, keeping the energy up, the dance floor full, and everyone having a great time. His wife was also amazing and ran the photo booth seamlessly.
If you’re looking for someone who’s talented, professional, personable, and genuinely cares, look no further. DJ Hype is truly exceptional. I 100% recommend him for your wedding or any event!

Get hyped!
This ain't his first rodeo! Marcus is a cool guy with great skills and professionalism. We could talk with him and he would just get it done. He is always responsive and was a pleasure to work with. The equipment was never in the way and not obnoxiously loud. Everyone had a great time with DJ HYPE!

Look no Further, Marcus is the Man!
From beginning to end Marcus answered questions, had professional demeanor and insight. Communication was never an issue. Weddings can certainly be stressful and booking with him was our easiest decision! We are SO thankful we booked him. Marcus is T H E M A N. He knows the industry well. He knows his crowd. He knows what works. He assisted during speakers he’s, first dance, all dancing, etc.
BRIDES, last minute I realized we hadn’t chosen a separate song for wedding party procession and I gave him a lyric to the song, he found it, and timed it PERFECTLY.
It was a dreamy, beautiful event. Thank you for being a huge part of making my wedding a dream come true!

Great wedding DJ!
We used DJ Hype for our wedding Sept 2025. He was very professional and responsive to emails. He has a very detailed music form to fill out reviewing the entire day of events and includes hundreds of popular songs/artists/genres to choose from and space to add additional song requests/must-play-songs. He kept our guests on the dance floor all night with great party/dance song selections and our guests didn't want the night to end with the last song! We also added his photobooth option and they made a custom border based on our wedding invitation design. Extra photobooth copies were printed for our guests as well as our photobooth guest book.

Amazing Wedding DJ May 2025
Marcus was Phenomenal! For the reception, I didn't care about the food or decorations, my number one priority was to have a fun dance floor the whole night, and that's exactly what we got! If there was ever a song where it felt like maybe people were less into it (which didn't happen much), he very smoothly transitioned to something else, which is exactly what you want. He brought the energy to the party without the spotlight being off of us. Prior to the wedding, he was super easy to get in touch with, and he was on time and prepared with everything. We had several comments from our guests about how great he was. Can't recommend him enough, it was amazing!

DJ Hype is a MUST for your wedding or event! We had such a wonderful experience with Marcus! From the start, he was incredibly friendly, punctual, and well-prepared. He did an amazing job keeping our guests entertained—both while they waited to be called for the buffet and later on during dancing. He worked in all of our requests seamlessly, including song choices and fun reception activities like the anniversary dance.
What stood out the most was his positive energy and personable nature—he truly helped set the tone for a joyful, relaxed celebration. We also used his photo booth service, which was a big hit with our guests! It came fully stocked with fun props, a themed background that matched our wedding decor, and printable photo strips. Not too mention we got a download of ALL the photo booth images too! The photo booth attendant (his wife) was also great, helping guests with the process and keeping things running smoothly.

DJ Hype was amazing to work with! From our first meeting we knew he was going to bring the party! The playlist for the wedding day was a hit and everyone was talking about how great the music and entertainment was. I had very specific requests for the ceremony music and he was able to do it! Everyone even loved the photo booth as well - a fun addition to the night! We had a smaller wedding, but even with our crowd DJ Hype did a great job getting everyone on the dance floor. The thing that I appreciated most about working with DJ Hype was his communication and attention to detail. From my first meeting with him I knew he would be a great fit for our wedding! Marcus laid everything out very nicely for us to pick what songs we wanted and when we wanted them. The final review meeting was awesome as he went through everything with us with a fine tooth comb and made sure we considered everything properly so we could be happy as could be with everything! Enter our big day! Marcus arrived early, got us all mic'd up and taken care of, he's a super personable guy and had me laughing, feeling cared for, and relaxed. Once he was set up he was layering everything out perfectly, everything was right on cue and sounded great. When we got to the reception time, he had the tunes cranking and we were having a great time! One other thing I love is that he'll get out on the dancefloor and throw down with everyone! Truly a great experience from start to finish with DJ Hype, you definitely will NOT be disappointed, and you may feel like it's all too good to be true.. but he's the real deal!!

DJ Hype brought the HYPE to our wedding!
Marcus did an absolutely stellar job DJ'ing and MC'ing out wedding. The music mixes were perfect, his timing was impeccable, and his bright personality put a smile on everyone's face! I was very particular about the song I walked down the aisle to- as it had an ugly beat drop in the middle. He perfectly engineered the timing of the song with my grand entrance it felt like an absolute dream, exactly how I imagined it! He sent us a "client music form" that was extremely helpful to us. This form allowed us (Marcus, my husband and I) to work as a team to have the most seamless ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. Our families had a BLAST. Everyone was on the dance floor, I, the bride was dancing the ENTIRE night! I highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend DJ Hype for any and all DJ'ing needs! Best decision ever!
When it comes to wedding planning and ensuring the best possible experience for all your guests in attendance; (in my opinion) It all comes down to the right DJ. In the case of my daughter's wedding, were so many things in the planning process were challenging to say the least; DJ Hype was a shining jewel! From beginning to end, he was AMAZING!! His knowledge, experience and professionalism is bar-none. From our first contact he was on point. He responded to my first email (and all subsequent) within hours. He answered all my questions and even the ones I didn't know to ask. Marcus was polite and courteous and kind. At Hype Entertainment, I was walked through the entire process so I could feel confident about everything. Even our venue was thrilled when they realized Hype Entertainment would be our DJ. Marcus's character and professionalism proceeds him. On the big day, where our so called "wedding coordinator" fell shamefully short; Marcus stepped up and ensured everything ran smoothly and on time. Marcus communicated with our other vendors and photographers to ensure we kept a timeline and that no special moment was overlooked (like pictures of the Father/Daughter dance!) He was able to make adjustments on the fly to ensure a seamless experience for the Bride and groom and all the guests. Honestly, I could go on and on! AND THE MUSIC!! Marcus was FABULOUS!!! He kept the dance floor packed, keeping it fun. He sprinkled in just the right amount of "slow songs" so older generations also had some time on the dance floor. I CANNOT say enough about our experience with Hype Entertainment. Marcus was a dream to work with. Truly, Hype Entertainment was the one aspect of the entire planning experience that was a solid, reassurance from beginning to end. I would book Marcus again and again and recommend Hype Entertainment to EVERYONE. Hype Entertainment WILL NOT DISAPPOINT and when it is a day where emotions run high and curveballs might come from anywhere at anytime; let the entertainment be the one thing that is foolproof for your special event; do yourself a favor and hire Hype Entertainment, and sleep easy knowing your special event is in the best hands in the industry.

So much fun!
DJ Hype was quick to respond and so easy to work with to get our wedding day set up. He was professional and organized the day of the event. I would 10/10 recommend him to anyone hosting a wedding or event!

Worth the HYPE
I had the pleasure of meeting Marcus and Melissa four years ago at my sister’s wedding. The next morning, I told my sister that whenever it was my time to get married, Marcus and Melissa HAVE TO be there for me and my future wife. Marcus and Melissa are extremely reliable, easy to talk to, and attentive to detail to make sure your ceremony/reception are everything you dreamed it would be. Their professionalism is top tier and they treat you as if you were their closest family members. Marcus truly goes above and beyond to keep the dance floor grooving all night long; he’ll even be out there tearing it up on the dance floor with you! The photo booth that Melissa provided for our special day was beautiful and my wife and I now have countless memories of our closest friends and family we can always look back and reminisce on for the rest of our lives together. Another thing my wife and I really appreciated from Hype entertainment was the music package Marcus has built up over his career. It can be hard to pick out what music you want to have for your special day, but this package gives you a great head start one what’s usually received well at weddings/receptions and let’s you sprinkle in your favorite jams you’ve been listening to since you were little. To anyone in VA/NC areas looking for the PREMIER entertainment package for their special day, you’re doing yourself a disservice if you don’t have Marcus and Melissa bringing the HYPE to one of the best days our your lives.

Dj hype!
Where do I even begin? Marcus is the HYPE and brought the HYPE . Marcus was the reason our wedding went so smoothly. He is truly the best and I don’t know what we would have done without him. From the very beginning stages of planning, Marcus was super communicative, helpful, patient and so straight forward. Day of, Marcus was prepared with so much love, ready to celebrate with us… and he did! He truly takes the weight off your shoulders and makes sure you have a good time— it was the best day of our life because of Marcus. Seriously— look no further, HIGHLY recommend for a good time!!

DJ Hype Entertainment is the Best!
DJ Hype Entertainment did a phenomenal job. I would recommend him to everybody. His music package made it simple to check off popular songs we wanted for the entire event, while also being able to make specific requests. The music quality was top tier with his high end equipment! He was also great on the mic making wedding announcements and getting everyone on the dance floor during the reception. Overall, we loved having him and need another event to book him for!

The Best!!
DJ Hype, Marcus Matthews, was the best decision I've made for the wedding! His professionalism, quality of service, and communication were top-notch. He was flexible with my requests and provided excellent advice for my wedding timeline. (I did not have a wedding planner)
He had the dance floor hyped up and jumped into a line dance which was such an amazing experience.
By the end of the night, DJ Hype has become family and I am so grateful he was a big part of my dream day!

DJ HYPE is absolutely amazing!
Marcus MADE our wedding! He played such an important role as being the main entertainment. He was professional, kind and so much Fun! So many of my guests approached us afterward and told us how great/wonderful our DJ was. The dance floor was full from start to finish! The music playlist was so perfect! I thank DJ HYPE so much for making our wedding day so perfect. I couldn’t ask for anything more from him. HYPE for our DJ
Our wedding day with Hype Entertainment was absolutely magical! It was the most wonderful day of our lives, filled with unforgettable moments and superb service. The team at Hype Entertainment went above and beyond to make sure every detail was perfect, creating an unforgettable experience for us and our guests. From the initial planning stages to the actual event, he was a dream to work with. I had SEVERAL specific songs that I wanted played during the ceremony and it all went flawlessly! He even held my 6 month old nephew so that his parents could make a speech. I could not recommend him enough - everyone was dancing and had a great time!

Our wedding day was truly an unforgettable experience for us. From start to finish, everything was executed with precision and care, leaving us with cherished memories to last a lifetime. The team at Hype Entertainment went above and beyond for us.
He provided music and mics for the ceremony on the beach, which were crystal clear and loud enough for everyone to hear. Marcus knew exactly how to read the crowd and kept the dance floor packed all night! He wasn’t your typical DJ who just stood behind his booth he interacted with guest and played song request he felt would fit the vibe.

Marcus provided the greatest DJ experience imaginable. He’s a born entertainer that knows the ins and outs of keeping a crowd happy and having a good time. At one point when everyone was on the dance floor, Marcus let us behind his DJ booth and pretend to be him. The crowd went wild! We cannot recommend Marcus enough, he was VITAL to the success of our wedding night. Hire this man!

You won’t find a better DJ than Marcus
We hired Hype Entertainment for our wedding and wow wow wow was it one of the best decisions we made. He was there early to set up and I actually ran into him on my way to some pictures prior to the ceremony and he stopped what he was doing to greet me and make me feel so special. He was also the best DJ and made every single person have so much fun. So many of our guests reached out to us afterwards and specifically mentioned Marcus and how fun he was! YOU NEED HIM AT YOUR EVENT!! He will make sure everyone has a blast.

Wedding reception
We had heard so many great things about Marcus (from literally all our vendors!) and it was easy to see why. From start to finish of the entire process, Marcus was great. He answered our many questions and was incredibly responsive to emails. As an MC, he kept the atmosphere exciting but also smooth and organized, from giving bridal party introductions to announcing time for toasts to making the transition to dancing, it all flowed so naturally. Marcus gave us a questionnaire in advance which allowed us to select the types of songs we liked and special requests (like our request for surprising the guests with Gangnam style for the transition from dinner to dancing). Another of our friends really enjoyed getting picked by Marcus to play the 'air guitar' during one of the songs as well. We decided to also use his services for Uplighting, which was beautiful and really enhanced the evening at the Chrysler. His photobooth was another highlight of the evening, and as the couple, we got copies of all the photos afterwards. He allowed us to customize the photo templates as well. Overall, we would 100% recommend Marcus to anyone!!

DJ Marcus Hype truly made our wedding unforgettable. From the moment the music started, he had everyone on their feet, dancing and having the time of their lives. His music selection was spot-on, catering to every guest and keeping the energy high throughout the night.
Not only did DJ Marcus Hype keep the party going, but he was also a pleasure to work with leading up to the event. He was professional, courteous, and truly listened to our preferences, making sure to incorporate our favorite songs into the playlist.
Multiple guests complimented us on our choice of DJ, with many mentioning how he was one of the best they've seen at a wedding. Our dj for two weddings
We chose Marcus Matthews (DJ Hype) for both of our daughter's weddings. We thought he did such a great job with the first one that we didn't hesitate to hire him again for the second. We had just an awesome experience with him at both weddings. Super easy to get along with, great communicator, & provided just a fantastic service. He kept things running on schedule, brought people out of their shells, and brought so much fun to the event...he was just an integral part of our wedding experience, both times. We would not think to hire anyone else if we ever need a DJ at a future event. Thank you Marcus!

Nonstop Party
From the moment we talked to Marcus, he was great to work with. He has a whole packet to help him know what kinds of songs you like and what your special songs are. He was so accommodating. From start to stop, he kept the music flowing. Perfect sets for everything from seating of guests, cocktail hour, dinner, to the nonstop party at the end. Our dance floor was almost never empty. He kept a great pulse on the crowd and kept the momentum going. He is not afraid to get out on the floor and show everyone how to do some of the dances. We received so many compliments on how fun he was!
We also got our photo booth from him! His wife helps make the photo strips unique to your wedding so they match. She was amazing to work with on the day. They brought plenty of props to use as well. It was a big hit with all our guests.

Indescribable experience
Planning a wedding from out of state was difficult - especially when we could not meet any of the vendors in advance. We found DJ Hype, saw how highly reviewed he was, found out how affordable he was, and scooped him up right away for our date. Trust me, you think you know a good DJ?? You haven't experienced anything until you meet and hear the work of DJ Hype! His flexibility, well preparedness, and down to earth, fun, demeanor truly made our day one we will never forget! Five stars is an understatement. DJ Hype brings the party- he himself is the party. I had no idea who to ask as a DJ and my coordinator sent me his name with two others- I made the decision based on reviews like the one I am leaving now and I’m telling you- it will be the best decision you made the entire wedding planning process. He took special requests, played a voicemail from my dad before our dance, took a USB drive from my grandfather for a special surprise dance, and even played a song I converted myself. He will dance with you, sing with you, and make your guests feel like family. He was very communicative leasing up to the big day and even allowed me to add an extra hour three days before my event when I realized I needed wireless mics for my ceremony. (He even has these!) Do it. Stop looking right now and book him!!

Awesome DJ
We hired Marcus “DJ Hype” for our wedding and he was awesome. We had some unusual requests for songs and for first dance & family dances at our reception, he pulled it all off for us! He kept our event moving, even when our pastor was 20 mins late & our timeline fell behind. The vibe at our wedding was exactly what we asked for and all of our guests had a great time. The night was blur for me but the moments I did get to enjoy with my husband on the dance floor were amazing! I would absolutely hire Marcus again for any future events.

You need DJ Hype at your event!!
We hired Marcus for our wedding and it was the best decision. He was very professional and accommodating. We met with him twice before the wedding so he could get an understanding of what we wanted. And it was perfect. You definitely want Marcus at your wedding. He seriously brought the party! Our dance floor was full the entire night. He is so fun and interactive! He was even out on the dance floor with us to teach the line dances if you didn’t know them. And even had me (the bride) back behind the dj booth for a song, it was the highlight of my night! We also opted for Marcus’s uplighting and Photo Booth. I highly recommend getting this as well. Our guests loved the Photo Booth and Marcus even sent us a CD of every photo taken that night. Seriously couldn’t recommend him enough!!! DJ Hype Brings the Hype!!!

Amazing DJ!!!
Marcus was the PERFECT DJ for our wedding. He customized a mash up for my husband and mother in law to dance to and kept people on the dance floor all night!!! He did an amazing job of choosing songs for the younger and older crowds and has such an amazing presence and personality. The music for the ceremony, all dances, the introductions, ect was perfect and exactly what we asked for. He allowed for us to make all kinds of requests and fulfilled them all. Working with him was easy and all of our guests loved him. Could not recommend enough!!!!

Dj hype - 5 stars!
DJ Hype was the DJ for my sister’s wedding in Manteo this past weekend and HE KILLED IT!!! He played awesome music and got the crowd HYPE - from behind the booth and out on the dance floor. It rained briefly before the ceremony and he did not hesitate for a second before he went to grab a towel to go outside and help dry off the chairs. He went above and beyond and OVER delivered. 1000000% reccommend.

Amazing DJ!!!
Marcus was so much fun to have on our wedding day, he really added to the party especially when he got on the dance floor with us. He made sure to play the type of music I (the bride) requested and music he knew would keep guests on the dancefloor which was extremely important for us. Living in NJ we were nervous to pick a DJ out of state for our wedding in NC but Marcus by far exceeded our expectations. Any concern/question I had (I had a lot) Marcus always answered quickly and thoroughly. He is the perfect DJ if you want a true party at your wedding!!

Amazing DJ
Would not hesitate to recommend Marcus (DJ Hype) to any couple planning a wedding in the Outer Banks area. He was very communicative and professional leading up to our wedding day, and was accommodating to all our requests. He read the crowd so well once the dance floor opened up; our guests loved him so much they asked for one more song at the end of the night (which he did!). Easy and so much fun!
DJ Hype was the BEST DJ we could've wished for, for our wedding. He was HYPE ALL NIGHT, he sang with us, danced with us, and even let me DJ for a few minutes! To get the party started, we had a sing-off between both sides of the room which was the perfect way to set the tone for the rest of the night. I wish I could give him a 1000849503/10. Best DJ ever.

Marcus was our DJ at our wedding three weeks ago down in Nags Head, NC and to say he was amazing is an understatement. He is truly one of the nicest people we have ever met and he REALLY knows how to get the party started! He had everyone up dancing and having a great time the whole night. The DJ for you
We got married at Jennette’s Pier in the OBX on 5/8/23 and HIGHLY recommend DJ Hype. He made sure to get everyone involved and that they were all having a good time; from the people outside on the deck mingling to playing songs for the little ones that attended our wedding. Everyone could not stop talking about how much fun they had and how amazing our DJ was. Marcus knows how to get the party started and keep it going all night long!

I met DJ Hype back when I was a little girl and even then his infectious positive personality was a shining light whenever you are around him and his wife so choosing him for our wedding was a no brainer. He had all the music timed perfectly and played all of our top requested songs. The dance floor was packed ALL. NIGHT. LONG. There was never a dull moment. He even comes out onto the floor to interact with guests during the music which I think is so fun & personable. DJ Hype & his wife Melissa is the team you NEED for your wedding, party, event - anything that requires music & a good time!

We cannot say enough good things! I thought we would have a little dancing at our wedding and the DJ would just mostly be playing background music. Nope, DJ Hype was amazing! The dance floor was packed all night! My now husband and I, who are not dancers by any means, even spent most of the night dancing. So many people told us the next day how fantastic our DJ was. From the start the booking and planning process was easy. We had a Skype meeting to discuss what we wanted, we knew there would be a lot of kids at the wedding so we wanted to make sure everything was family appropriate. The music selection process could not have been easier! We got a bottle of wine and went through the list of most requested songs and most popular dance songs. For every line dance Marcus was right there with me. We had such an amazing time at our wedding and I know we had made the best choice possible for our DJ. If we ever have need of a DJ again we won't hesitate to book with Marcus.

Marcus was the DJ for my MOH's wedding 2 years ago, and we knew we had to hire him for ours! We gave him our list of songs for the ceremony and asked him to do what he thought would get our guests on the dance floor - and he did not disappoint! Dream Wedding Experience!
Mr. Matthews was the epitome of professionalism and perfection! We hired him for our October 2022 wedding at Sanctuary Vineyards. He was very easy to contact and communication was excellent. The day of the wedding I didn’t have to worry about a thing! We hired him for our pre-ceremony music and sound for the ceremony itself. Absolute perfection. He became a true all-star for our Reception. He was engaging and entertaining for all of our guests. He was adored by everyone from our youngest guest to my grandma! They truly could not stop raving about how incredible he was. My co-workers couldn’t stop talking about our wedding for weeks! If you’re even looking for a DJ, hire Hype Entertainment NOW!

5 Years ago, when my daughter got married Marcus was her MC/DJ. He came highly recommended by a family member who stated, "Marcus makes the Party". After witnessing this for myself that night, I knew that DJ Hype would be our MC/DJ for any future events, and we considered him family. When it came to planning our wedding, without hesitation Marcus was the first person I contacted. He is easy to work with and actually helped us find our Venue. After shifting our date several times due to circumstances out of our control, Marcus stayed with us and not once made us feel like an inconvenience. In fact, we'd have changed our wedding date several more times just to ensure Marcus was available to be our MC/DJ at our wedding. I can't say enough about him, and I highly recommend him for any function you might be planning. He's much more than a DJ and a stranger to no one. DJ Hype Entertainment = Perfection!
DJ Hype is hands down one of the best DJs I have had the pleasure of experiencing. If you want someone who can get a great read of the crowd and actively engage with them, DJ Hype is the person to go with. He was professional and prompt. He made sure to get the crowd on the dance floor and would even join in with some of the dancing. He even let my wife get behind the turn tables for a song, which was one of her favorite parts of the night. It is the little things that made the most of our wedding and we appreciated the personal touches DJ Hype added to our wedding to help make it special. His high energy really set the tone for our wedding and we are beyond grateful to have had him be there. He is very easy to work with and maintained an open line of communication. He would always answer any questions we had and was always willing to go the extra mile. In addition, the photo booth that his provided was a great touch for guests. His wife managed the photo booth and helped our guests with props and taking the photos. If you want your wedding/event to be the talk of the town, then you need to go with DJ Hype.

To say Marcus, aka DJ Hype, was the BEST DJ we could’ve asked for would be the understatement of the year… He entertains & makes sure everyone is having fun!! He came out on the dance floor a few times & had every one dancing & singing the whole night! He is so good at reading the vibe of the dance floor & took requests for songs from guests. The photo booth we got was AMAZING & came with props & personalized printed photo strips for guests to take with them!! He even allowed me (the bride) to come behind the turntable & snap a few cool pics!! Truly would not have been as perfect without him behind the DJ table!!! 10000/10 recommend for your special day!!

If you’re reading this, you are contemplating using DJ Hype (Marcus) for your wedding DJ, and I am here to tell you to DO IT! You will not be disappointed. Marcus was the most interactive, accommodating, friendly, fun DJ I have ever seen. He danced with us, he sang with us and he laughed with us all with a big smile on his face all night long.
