Beautiful Photos

We hired Jean based on the recommendation of our venue, and we could not be happier with how our photos turned out. Jean was extremely professional, and she met with us several times before the day of the wedding to coordinate events and timing. We did getting-ready photos, a first-look session before the ceremony, along with family portraits, ceremony, and reception photography. Jean and her assistant Tim were both able to create truly beautiful images while remaining efficient and keeping us perfectly on schedule. We had some unexpected rain, so we weren’t able to take the outdoor photos we had planned, but Jean was able to suggest a back-up location that turned out beautifully.

Jean Kallina was the photographer for our April 21st wedding and she did an amazing job! Both my husband and I were so pleased with the photos and we can't wait to share them with our friends and family. Jean was great to work with from start to finish and even went out of her way to meet us for coffee when we happened to be passing through Kingston. She was also so accommodating of our request to speed up the after the ceremony photos since a) it was COLD and b) we didn't want to miss all of cocktail hour with our guests!

My only regret is that we didn't book her services for longer! Highly recommend Jean for your upcoming wedding or any special event where you're looking to hire a photographer!

I hired Jean for my May 2014 Hudson Valley wedding. We were married in a Catholic church and then held a reception on a family farm inside a tent. All of the photographs came out beautifully. Jean was easy to work with, her assistant was a lot of fun and did a great job corralling the ring bearers/flower girls for group photos, they were not in the way at all during the day/didn't feel like we were being paparazzi stalked at our reception and I thought her prices were extremely reasonable given quality of service and location. Also her instagram is really awesome, so you know she's passionate about taking good photographs even when she's not on the clock. I would definitely recommend!

We’re so happy that Jean Kallina was the photographer at our wedding. From the initial planning phases to the last dance she was always available to answer our questions and give us advice on how to preserve our event in pictures. Her style is quiet and unassuming yet she and her staff were ever present taking hundreds of photos – at both the rehearsal and the wedding - capturing all the excitement and enthusiasm of our wedding weekend. Her skill and creativity as a photographer was evident in both the formal pictures and the candids. Her understanding of color and perspective enabled her to capture fantastic shots – pictures that over the years will send us right back to that lovely summer weekend in August. She didn’t miss a detail and for that we are truly grateful.

Jean Kallina provided us with the most Amazing photography I have ever seen. We were thrilled when we saw the images. They are artistic, beautiful and wonderful quality. She is an amazing artist. She was super professional to work with. She always got back to us the same day we contacted her and her follow up was great... we got the photos super fast... It was a couple of weeks! Jean was a pleasure to have around us on the day of the wedding and made us feel very comfortable having our photos taken which we appreciated very much. WE would recommend her without hesitation. Jean Kallina Photography was the best choice for our wedding. Jean was very familiar with our venue and knew all of the great spots to capture our unforgettable day. Not only was she professional, but she was extremely attentive to the bridal party and our families.

She took the time to meet with us at the venue and recommend places to shoot and time frames to begin/end--even going a step further to help me formulate a "picture schedule" for the day of the wedding.

She responded to emails same day and made it a point to let me know if she was going out of town or couldn't be reached for a few days.

The turn around time getting our photos amazed us and we were more than happy with the outcome. I would highly recommend her for your wedding or special event.

I cannot recommend Jean Kallina enough! Our photos came out absolutely spectacular. When planning a wedding you begin to realize how ridiculously expensive every little thing can be. While Jean's cost is competitive and on par with other photographers in the area, we considered going cheap on a photographer or even having a friend take pictures for us. We are so glad that we didn't go down that route. Having these amazing photos to look back on is absolutely priceless. We had the best day of our lives but it went by so fast and there were moments that we missed all together. Her photos captured the spirit of our wedding perfectly. She was extremely unobtrusive which we loved, but she somehow captured every amazing moment at the same time. We've gone to weddings where there is a videographer with a bright light shining in your face or photographers blocking your view of the bride and groom or getting right in the middle of your group making your feel uncomfortable and the pictures look unnatural. Jean's presence allowed such natural photos to be taken and everyone just looked like they were having fun in the moment rather than posing for pictures. She has an amazing eye for detail and every picture came out truly beautiful. We highly recommend not skimping on a photographer and we highly recommend Jean!

Jean is an artist. Her photos are so beautiful that it is difficult to choose which ones I want to print. Everything is shot in color, black & white and sepia and the shots are stunning. She catches the celebration in a beautiful and unique way.

Guest after guest commented that she was unobtrusive at the wedding but she took a zilion shots. I love the way she shot the objects like the dresses, etc. Really a wonderful experience working with her.

When we received a recommendation for Jean Kallina, we didn't waste any time researching her reviews. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that she is quite an accomplished photographer. It should also come as no surprise that her work was stunning. What we were surprised by was how reasonably priced her packages were. We got exactly what we wanted for exactly the price we wanted. This is one area of your wedding you do not want to cut corners! Don't leave your one and only chance to capture these photos up to a family member or a friend. And don't take a chance on any other photographer for your New York wedding! We loved Jean and we loved her work!

I absolutely loved having Jean as the photographer for our wedding at Mohonk Mountain House. I asked Jean to create a canvas for our living room wall out of one of the photos that she took and every time someone comes to our house it is the first thing that they comment on--nobody can believe what a beautiful picture it is! Our album also turned out beautifully. I can't stop looking at it!! My husband and I hate having our picture taken but Jean made the whole process so easy and fun. All of our guests commended on how inconspicuous she was throughout the ceremony and reception, unlike some other photographers. Jean was also so responsive to any emails and phone calls before and after the wedding in regards to her work. She clearly takes so much pride in what she does, and it shows! I could not recommend Jean highly enough for your wedding!

I discovered Jean Kallina's photography via the web. I took one look at her breathtaking cinematic photography and fell in love. Jean is truly an artist. Every time I look through my wedding pictures,not only am I staring at beautiful images but I feel like I am reliving the moment. Jean has a way of capturing your emotions and saving them eternally in an image. On our wedding day she was organized, never obtrusive and a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend her.

If you are looking for a photographer who is not only exceptionally talented in her own right, but who will capture the 'moments' of your day, you are looking for Jean. Jean is organized, has a high quality of of work and work ethic in getting photographs edited and organized, efficient with her time, and takes care in capturing the big 'picture' and the details as well. It was a pleasure to work with her on my day. I am so lucky to have found such a wonderful and talented photographer who not only documented my wedding thoroughly from start to finish, but who I really enjoyed having with me as my photographer for such an important day for me. Jean's expertise in photography in a variety of settings was remarkable as we started for our First Look photos in a garden, had the ceremony in a church, a horse-drawn-carriage in the sunny afternoon, and an evening venue at the Beekman Arms Inn. I will treasure the photographs Jean took forever! I can't wait to print them all.

As the Mother of the Bride, I was so impressed and pleased with Jean Kallina and the Hudson Valley Photographers! My daughter, the bride, was very particular with her choice of the photographer. ( My daughter's undergraduate degree was in photography) She knew exactly what she wanted as a professional photographer for her wedding. After researching many photographers she decided on Jean Kallina. She was especially impressed with Jean's color photography and her excellent use of the camera and processing techniques. Jean and her assistant were wonderful to work with and they were very professional. Jean's photographs are unique, tender and exceptional! I agree with my daughter's choice and would highly recommend Jean as the photographer for a wedding or other special family events!

Jean was a great. She was very easy to deal with and even came to meet with us before the wedding at the venue. On the day of the wedding she was supper organized and efficient getting a ton of great pictures in in a short amount of time. I wanted to find someone who would take some formal portraits ( we all need those ) but also be able to take some pictures in a photo journalistic style, a little artsy so to speak. Once I saw Jean's portfolio I was convinced that her style was exactly what I was looking for. We set up an engagement session with her - and were two clueless people about where to shoot, what to wear, and frankly I was just awkward due to nerves and inexperience! Jean suggested a beautiful location and guided us through the pictures, her demeanor completely eliminating the awkwardness of being photographed. We had lunch with her and talked about what we wanted for the wedding shots etc. Oh and the pictures were simply stunning! And if that wasn't enough Jean was simply amazing on the wedding day. She helped us set up formal shots, captured the small details of my home and pets ( which meant the world to me ) and was like a shadow passing through the entire day. I barely even noticed her! She took some of the beautiful pictures I have seen. I could't believe they were of MY wedding day. The most amazing part of her photography was that she was able to capture - somehow - what it felt like to be at our wedding. Looking at the photos , you can see the genuine emotions of the candid shots, and how skilled she is at capturing it. Anytime in the future I need a photographer - Jean will be who I call. The proofs arrived at lightening speed - less than two weeks! I HIGHLY recommend her for any event.Many friends and family have also remarked at what amazing pictures we have and that they're jealous of what a fantastic photographer we had!

We loved working with Jean for our wedding photography. We did a ton of research when looking for the perfect photographer and Jean had it all. Her artistic work and style speaks for itself but that combined with her professionalism, attention to detail, and creative ideas all made her such a great photographer to work with. We were so pleased with our engagement session photos that I couldn't wait to see what she would do with our wedding day photos. Jean photographed our wedding on April 13, 2013 at The Garrison. She was a pleasure to work with and captured our wedding in some stunning photographs. The challenge will be selecting which ones to feature in our album and in frames around our home - because they are all natural, warm and elegant. Jean is a wonderful photographer, and we really enjoyed working with her during the entire wedding process. She is extremely responsive, a lovely person, and she understands how to tell the story of your wedding through her photos. My fiance hates to have his picture taken, and all of the photos Jean took of him are wonderful - a testament to how comfortable she makes people feel. We have received all of our photos, and they are breathtakingly beautiful and original. I would highly recommend her to everyone because she is an excellent wedding photographer.

Jean Kallina was just what we were looking for in a photographer. We had been to weddings where we couldn't even see the ceremony because the photographer was in the way. We wanted to make sure our photographer wasn't distracting to our guests but still captured all the important and spontaneous moments. Jean did all that and she was very flexible when the location of the ceremony changed moments before it began due to rain. She was also able to get all the photos done in the outdoor locations we wanted between rain drops. Her photos are beautiful and a great mix of posed and candid.

We were lucky enough to have Jean Kallina photograph our wedding this fall and we couldn’t be more grateful that we did. Jean is an artist without an imposing ego. She is graceful, diligent, and has an extraordinary vision for capturing not only the beautiful but also the meaningful. In addition to making us look our best, she captured who we are as a couple. Almost all of our pictures are keepsakes! Jean was reliable, patient, responsive, and extremely professional and kept a positive, calm demeanor over the course of our wedding day.

We were recommended to Jean by our venue and had only spoken by phone prior to our wedding day. She has a personality that makes you feel very comfortable, easy to speak to, is extremely professional, organized, and returned our calls promptly. We were very relaxed the day of our wedding because we knew Jean would capture our special day as we had envisioned. Upon receiving our pictures we were very pleased. The colors where vibrant, the "shots" were candid (as we had asked), and she was able to capture the intimacy of our wedding. The only difficult part now is trying to figure which of these fabulous pictures to choose for our Wedding Album!

My now husband and I had the pleasure of working with Jean Kallina first for our engagement photo session at Boscobel in April and then at our wedding at The Garrison this past June. I was lucky enough to find her based only on online reviews so now it's my turn to pay it forward. Jean is a GEM!!! If you are lucky enough to find the person you want to spend your life with, you want Jean there to be there to capture it in photos. I truly have a hard time finding the words to express how grateful we are to Jean. She is a real professional and a true artist. She was lovely to be around on our wedding day, which is very important when choosing a photographer. The first time I saw our pictures, they took my breath away. Each picture was so artistic, well composed, and simply beautiful. She captured our wedding in a way that I never could have dreamed to be possible, not even in my wildest dreams. Since the wedding, we have been in touch several times and she is always very prompt and sweet in her replies. There are only 5 starts on this rating, but Jean Kallina truly deserves 10!!! A simple "Thank you" is not enough for what Jean gave us. Our wedding day was beautifully captured and will forever be frozen by Jean's fantastic pictures. Her professionalism and ability to make everyone feel calm and comfortable in her presence is uncanny. And what's more, she was able to photograph every important step on our wedding day from the first time we stepped towards each other that morning, to our steps down the aisle, to our dance steps during the reception. The first picture was just as great as the last. Our magical wedding day is preserved through Jean's beautiful photographs.

Jean Kallina is an artist and a professional. I planned my New York City Wedding from Denver, Colorado and Jean was always responsive, professional kind and thoughtful. I really appreciate that she wanted to capture exactly want we wanted and that the photos turned out so beautiful. With so many different things to pay for, we were also very grateful that we could pay via PayPal or credit card. Jean posted the photographs to her website and blog immediately after the wedding which was very exciting for us and then sent the photos through Pictage and through the mail as soon as she possibly could. Every bride and groom (and guests and family) wants to see their pictures right away so to me, that was HUGE! The quality of the photos is just amazing. I am so grateful that we chose Jean to capture the most precious moments of the most important day of our lives!

My husband and I were married in August at Mohonk Mountain House. Jean worked with us on a very rainy wedding day to get beautiful pictures! She trekked all over Mohonk with us and our umbrellas to make sure we had every shot we wanted. I was so disappointed with the rainy day until I saw how beautiful it was in Jean’s pictures. They came out great and captured our day perfectly! The artistic quality of the shots is beyond words – everyone I show them to is impressed. Jean was absolutely wonderful to work with and served as a calm presence in the mists of a bustling day. She is a seasoned professional who helped us relax and have fun. Additionally, Jean was flexible with packages and we ended up getting exactly the photographs we wanted. They were of unbelievable quality and we felt that we received great value for our money.

Let me preface this whole review by saying that I am not someone who loves to have her photo taken.

That being said, I could not WAIT for Jean Kallina of Hudson Valley Photography to take photos of my wedding. As soon as we found her website, and then met with her to discuss packages, etc, we loved her and her work. Jean has a truly artistic eye, knows how to capture an emotion and moment, whether it's crazy dancing at the reception, or a romantic portrait just after the wedding.

She was a total joy to work with on a professional level, too. She was friendly but efficient in getting the group bridal party photos we requested while our guests were at the cocktail hour. She got all the posed group shots in, and we got to the reception right on time.

We just viewed our entire album yesterday for the first time, and we are thrilled! She captured our big day and the people we loved so wonderfully. We couldn't have asked for more.

I was married at Caramoor on September 10, 2011. My husband and I were incredibly fortunate to have had Jean Kallina document our special day. Her photographs were truly elegant and captured the emotions of the day perfectly. It was important to me that my photographer capture the natural beauty of my venue and Jean really delivered. She also worked with us on a really fun engagement session, which I highly recommend to other brides. Jean is truly an artist with amazing talent, and a very nice person! She is not only knowlegable about her craft, but also responsive to any questions along the way and very easy to work with. I had a tight budget, and the value of her work cannot be beat when you see the quality in the end product. Some words my family used to describe Jean's pictures were "magnificent", "stunning" and "astonishing", and those are perfect adjectives. Do not hesitate to book Jean for your wedding, she has my wholehearted recommendation!

Working with Jean Kallina was beyond wonderful, she truly is an artist!. Our wedding photos were one of the most important elements of our wedding day, Jean made sure she delivered all of our needs. Jean is a very pleasant, personable and very artistically talented photographer. She took absolutely beautiful pictures of my wedding in August 2010. Jean shot my wedding this summer, and gave me the wedding pictures I was hoping for. During our initial meeting I described the look and feel I wanted for my pictures; I wanted poppy colors, meaningful shots during special moments, and a down-to-earth feel to reflect my relationship with my husband who I met as a teen in summercamp. Jean totally understood the vibe I was going for, and ultimately made it happen. She was a pro in handling my ridiculously large bridal party and nutty family. And her assistant caught some amazing shots as well. I found her pricing to be reasonable, and her responsiveness after the event has been superb. We're working on an album together now. All in all, I couldn't have been happier with Jean.

Jean was so great to work with. Before the wedding she met with me to review what would take place during the event and informed me on what she would be doing throughout the day. She took all of my requests and was able to accomodate them. During the wedding, Jean was very behind the scenes for the most part. We got some amazing pictures and hardly even noticed that she was there, which was great. Our posed photos with our families went so quickly and smoothly and we were able to enjoy as much of the reception as we could. Our pictures are absolutely beautiful. Jean was able to capture the essence and mood of the day and our pictures will allow us to look back on our special day for years to come. Thanks Jean!!

When looking for a photographer, we had two major criteria. We did not want an obnoxious photographer--we had been to so many weddings where the photographer pushed guests out of the way to get a picture or where the photgrapher blocked the view of the ceremony. We also wanted a photographer who would capture the beauty and charm of our outdoor wedding venue. Jean exceeded all of our expectations! We took all of our portraits before the wedding and during the ceremony and reception we barely knew Jean was there--it was exactly what we wanted. As for our pictures---they are fabulous! We just received our album. Jean's skills as a photographer and artist created an incredible memory we will enjoy for years to come. Jean Kallina, of Hudson Valley Photography, is absolutely the finest photographer to hire for any special occasion. In my case, I hired her for my daughter's wedding. She captures moments on film with elegance and creativity. Working with a list prepared together, she photographs all the traditional moments from several angles giving a choice of expression. She moves so quickly around the setting of the event that she is able to capture those so important and unforgettable moments that might be missed in the excitement of the day. She captures these moments on film framing the pictures so they weave together the beauty of the day.

Jean's work is beautiful and timeless. She listened to what we wanted and she stayed true to it for us. She was a calming presence before the ceremony and didn't insert herself into the proceedings in an obtrusive way. She was extremely professional before and during the planning process and we had digital proofs before we were even back from our honeymoon. We couldn't have been more pleased with our decision to ask Jean to be our photographer.

Jean Kallina did an amazing job photographing our wedding. She has a very impressing resume, and we were confident that she would give us natural photos, and be unobtrusive. Jean captured every moment of our wedding. As we look through our photos we can relive our wedding day. We were ecstatic when we saw our photos. Jean was an amazing photographer at our wedding! She was professional, prompt, and flexible with our schedule as we were planning the wedding from a long distance. Many aspects of our wedding were DIY and Jean was beyond helpful with all of our questions and her insight and suggestions were extremely helpful. We cannot say enough positive things about our experience with Jean Kallina. Jean was a pleasure to be around during every meeting. She remembered and respected our wishes and our ideas for the day and for our pictures. On the day of the wedding, she was early and took a zillion photographs without us ever feeling like she was there or in the way at all. Guests even commented on her professionalism! Jean got our pictures back to us in under 10 days and they are phenomenal. Her work is far superior to the average "wedding photographer" that you will find. She is an artist and it shows in her work. Her services were incredibly reasonable...even more so when you see the work that she creates for you. We HIGHLY recommend Jean Kallina for your photographer.

Working with Jean was wonderful. She is professional and listened carefully to what we wanted. On the day of the wedding, she was a wonderful presence. She made people comfortable and was able to take many stunning photos while not being obtrusive.

My only regret is that I asked for all images to be in color, and many of them are in b/w and some files weren't touched up (simple touch-ups like straightening the edges, etc.). I don't have a problem doing my own touch-ups, but I am sorry that I don't have the original color for some images. Even the b/w images are beautiful, however.

Otherwise, a perfect experience!

Jean at Hudson Valley Photography was amazing! We met with her and saw her photos from other weddings and knew we had to book her. From then on she kept us on track with the details and timing and we felt prepared going into the actual day. We did photos before our ceremony and got all the shots we wanted. During the cocktail hour and reception, we didn't even realize Jean and her assistant were there as she was not pushy and captured the most amazing photos from afar. After seeing our photos, we knew we made the right choice. Everyone we have shown them to has said they are the best photos they have seen. We highly recommend Jean and Hudson Valley Photography.

Jean has the background and eye of an artist. We were married in the Catskill Mountains and Jean captured beautiful details of the day--things that we even missed in the excitement of it all-- that still make us smile. If you are looking for standard posed and group shots, then Jean is not the right photographer (our group shots turned out okay, but certainly were not the best). But if you are looking for a photojournalistic style with a lot of emphasis on the couple, the mood, and the details of the day, then Jean is perfect. She's reliable and enthusiastic, and she made the photos available to us almost immediately in a variety of formats and did a great job putting together the proof book and album. Great memories!

I knew I wanted the best photography I could find, and I had very high expectations. I chose Jean Kallina for her references and her extensive photography experience. I also wanted very artistic photos and the style of those in her display albums seemed a good match. The price for her services is a bit steep, but I definitely was willing to pay for quality. There are many great photos and Jean caught a lot of great moments. Some shots are bit off centered or have the heads cut off or are very shadowy. However, there are so many that in most cases this is okay, but I found it surprising. Also there are some things I wished she would have captured-- she missed the rice throwing, and didn't take any of our bridal party during the first dance, and didn't take a photo of every table. In addition, there is only one shot of the whole bridal party, which would have been fine because I didn't want a whole lot of posed shots, but one of the groomsman is not standing in the right place and it is extremely noticable. I would suggest if you are very traditional, this may not be the best choice, but I wanted more candid shots so it was a good fit.
The packages are great because you get everything on disc, and a certain amount of free enlargements. We had a problem with one enlargement but when we contacted her, she did fix it right away, and was always very responsive by email.
Overall, she did a good job, and we have some awesome shots. Also you get a lot of pictures, and Jean is very discreet which is nice. Many guests said they never even noticed her in the church or reception. Our church shots are really great and I was happy with them, the reception could have been a bit better. Jean is easy to work with, and very professional. I am happy with our photos.
