Unforgettable Experience
Getting married at Hotel Du Pont was a magical and incredible experience. Shellie, the hotel's Director of Catering made this entire experience feel easier, calmer, and more joyful than we ever could have imagined. Her patience, kindness, and guidance were so helpful throughout the entire process. Shellie listened to every detail, big and small, offered thoughtful suggestions, and helped us navigate decisions we didn’t even realize we needed to think about. Her experience and calm confidence made the planning process feel effortless — especially during moments that could have easily become overwhelming. We truly had our dream wedding and she played a big role in that! There is not one thing I would change. I want to relive it over and over again! We are so grateful for the care and intention Shellie and the hotel staff brought to every detail. Everything flowed so seamlessly, and we know that was because of all the hard work happening quietly behind the scenes. Our experience overall at Hotel Du Pont was phenomenal and everyone truly went above and beyond. From Bruce our driver, to Frank one of our bartenders, Gary one of our servers, to Chris serving us in the morning (and so many more!). Everyone was kind and sweet and the service was incredible. Thank you for helping us create memories that will last a lifetime. -

Best Wedding Venue
Our wedding at the Hotel Du Pont was an absolute dream. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the elegance, attention to detail, and incredible level of service. Every member of the staff went above and beyond to make our day feel special, and we truly felt taken care of from start to finish.
The venue itself is breathtaking—timeless, romantic, and rich with character. From the stunning ballroom to the intimate spaces for photos, every corner of the hotel became the perfect backdrop for our day. The food was exceptional, the service was flawless, and everything ran seamlessly.
Our guests are still raving about how beautiful the venue was and how smooth the entire experience felt. We couldn’t have imagined a more perfect place to celebrate such an important moment in our lives.
If you’re considering the Hotel Du Pont for your wedding, don’t hesitate—it’s everything you hope for and more. We are beyond grateful for the unforgettable experience and memories that will last a lifetime.
Special shout out to Shellie the wedding coordinator she is fabulous!

The best weekend of our lives!
We got married at Hotel Du Pont last weekend, and it was absolutely incredible from start to finish. The venue is stunning, the food was exceptional (our guests are still talking about it!), and the rooms are truly incredible. Every detail felt thoughtful and elegant, and the entire team made the day run seamlessly. It was the best weekend of our lives. We couldn’t have imagined a more perfect place to celebrate our wedding. Thank you to the entire Hotel Du Pont team for making it all so unforgettable! -

The perfect venue!
We are SO glad we chose Hotel du Pont as our wedding venue.
We had our ceremony off-site in the chapel at Villanova University and it was so nice that once our guests arrived at the hotel, they were able to stay put and be taken care of for the rest of the weekend, but there were enough spaces to be somewhere different for all of our events. The bars at Le Cav and The Green Room were perfect gathering spaces for our guests throughout the weekend, and everything from the cocktail hour and reception in the Gold Ballroom, to the after party in the Christina Room, to the brunch in the Du Barry room was perfect!
We worked with 2 other coordinators briefly in the year and a half leading up to our wedding before Shellie took over, and we are so glad she did. She was able to accommodate all of the small requests that made our day run smoothly and feel like us, and overall was just a pleasure to work with - very responsive with all of our questions along the way! She was especially helpful with accommodating us with additional space to get ready when the Currie salon closed effective immediately one week before our wedding.
All of our guests are raving about the grandness of the venue, the food, and how much fun they had.
We can't wait to come back for weekend trips for years to come, and hope we get to be guests at a wedding here - one night wasn't enough! -

Elegance and Fun!
The historic Hotel DuPont's stunning architecture and elegant interiors created the perfect location for the wedding of our dreams. Our ceremony took place in the charming DuBarry Room, which held our 220 guests comfortably and was just a winding staircase away from the iconic Gold Ballroom, where our reception unfolded. Our 12-person band performed on a stage at the rear of the ballroom where we had plenty of space for dancing, which made for a fun night of entertainment and mingling with guests.
The high level of professionalism and service provided by the staff at Hotel DuPont stood out not only to my husband and me but also to our guests. With every single interaction, the staff was attentive and made people feel special. We felt like we had stepped back in time! Our guests also raved about all the dinner courses, the variety and presentation of food and drinks at the cocktail hour, and brunch the next morning.
From day one, we knew we were in good hands with Shellie. She was so knowledgeable, responsive, flexible, understanding, and always pleasant! She was available every step of the way, even for last-minute changes. She and her staff used their extensive experience to make our wedding day perfect. Most of our vendors had worked at the hotel in the past, and with each other and Shellie, making planning the wedding easy and the day of logistics seamless. It felt like a well-oiled machine!
My husband and I have so many wonderful memories of our wedding and cannot recommend Hotel DuPont enough. We look forward to celebrating our first anniversary at the hotel and enjoying the delicious wedding cake we had at our reception.-

The Best Wedding Ever
The Hotel DuPont was amazing! So many of our guests said this was the best wedding they had ever been to, whether it be the food, service, or just the beauty of the venue. The entire staff was so attentive to my now husband and I throughout the entire planning process, and the day turned out perfectly. I could not have asked for a better wedding. -

Timeless and Elegant
Absolutely amazing experience. From our first tour with Courtney it was obvious how special this venue was, our guests were SO impressed. It made decor EASY. The team really catered to our needs, even going as far as working with the bar manager at Le Cav to customize our signature drinks. The food was incredible (how often do you get to say that at a wedding?) and various staff throughout the event were professional and kind. We even had a few guests extend their weekend at the hotel after the wedding and they were granted the hotel block price. Cannot say enough great things about this venue. It's a no-brainer. -

Courtney and the Hotel were great
The wedding day was perfect, We have no complaints whatsoever and nothing we would have changed and asked for improvement on. We couldn’t have asked for a better venue or coordinator to work with. Out of state family and guests could not believe the beauty of the Hotel DuPont and that they were in the state of DE. It is truly a hidden Gem, plus you can’t put a price tag on being able to simply take an elevator up to your room when the night is over. 5 stars couldn’t recommend more. -

The best wedding venue!
Celebrating our wedding at Hotel Du Pont was a dream come true! To start, we saw the venue for a walk through for the first time and absolutely fell in love. Susan was our wedding manager with the hotel and she was beyond amazing. She never pressured us or tried to force any decisions on us. We came back for a second time and Susan was just as delightful as the first! We decided to book the hotel for our August 2018 wedding. From the time we booked the venue, leading up to our wedding day, Susan was extremely helpful! She answered every email and every question we had consistently. She always made my husband and I feel at ease and we never stressed out. When we went in for our food tasting, Susan made sure to dedicate extra time with us to confirm some details. The food tasting was perfect and the chef and kitchen staff are incredible! The week leading up to our wedding, we increased communication between us and Susan and together finalized all items. Susan made sure to contact our vendors about a week prior in order to coordinate and set everything for us to not have to worry about anything on the day of our wedding. When it came to our hotel block, this went seamlessly. Any of our guests that stayed at the hotel had zero issues booking rooms. The weekend of our wedding was completely flawless due to Susan and her team! When we checked into our hotel room for the weekend, the entire staff made us feel welcomed and special. The morning of our wedding, they had the bridal suite and the groom suite ready to go for us first thing in the morning. All day getting ready, the team at Hotel Du Pont continued to go above and beyond to make my husband and I have the best day of our lives! When it came time for our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, everything went perfectly. Susan was there to ensure all logistics ran smoothly, and the main captain of the dining room was there all night with us to make sure he and his staff executed all wedding details flawlessly. We were completely blown away with our wedding! Our guests had an amazing time. Everyone was raving about the hotel, decor, food, everything. Our wedding was the more incredible day of our lives and it is because of Susan, the entire staff at the hotel, and the beauty of Hotel Du Pont that we are forever thankful for! -

Great place for our wedding guests!
Hotel duPont was a great choice for our room blocks. The hotel itself is incredibly appointed and beautiful. The rooms are comfortable and a good size. The staff is wonderful and were great to work with throughout the process - constantly providing updates of how many guests had booked under my room block so I knew how many welcome bags & shuttles I needed. They also upgraded my husband & I to a very large honeymoon suit which was truly incredible. Highly recommend! -

My husband Erick and I got married at the Hotel du Pont this past July, and I cannot say enough about how much we loved this venue!!!
All of our guests complimented us on the stunning ballrooms, lobby, and hotel rooms, the service-oriented staff, and the smooth flow of our wedding. Everyone at the Hotel du Pont is a pro, from the bellhops to the people at the front desk to the wedding coordinator. We had the perfect fairytale wedding all thanks to the Hotel du Pont!!!
The bridal suite was incredible, and so were the other rooms. The guest rooms were spacious, clean, and inviting.
The staff, including the fabulous wedding coordinator Susan Norgeot, did everything they could to make us feel welcome and special on our wedding day and leading up to it. They really paid attention to the details, and I was so grateful for every little touch. Susan especially was patient and kind throughout the process, and really worked with our budget. She helped my pull off a really special surprise for my husband, and was so quick to respond and organized.
We hosted the rehearsal dinner, ceremony, reception, afterparty, and brunch at the Hotel, and it was one of the best decisions we made when it came to planning our wedding. Every event was executed with great care, efficiency, and grace. We couldn't have imagined a more stunning wedding- thank you to everyone at the Hotel du Pont, we love you!!!

We had the most perfect wedding at the Hotel du Pont. We were looking for a space that felt unique and special, but could also accommodate a large crowd. We found it here. The venue is beyond beautiful and elegant and the staff are incredibly warm and accommodating. Susan worked with us on every aspect of our big day, and was very patient with our questions as the wedding drew closer. The food was incredible and the hotel goes to extra lengths to accommodate guests with dietary restrictions, which we really appreciated. We can't imagine getting married anywhere else! -

My wife Alycia and I had an Indian/Chinese/Western wedding on a Saturday at the Hotel du Pont. It was the perfect wedding venue for us and here’s why:
1) Location: The hotel is located in downtown Wilmington, DE. A very corporate town, which ends up empty on weekends. But that means there’s plenty of free/inexpensive parking nearby for guests. The space was perfect for a large Indian groom’s procession around the block with people dancing in the streets behind my car.
2) Value: First, the hotel is absolutely beautiful, with authentic décor. More generally, it also really helped to have a hotel as a venue, particularly since we had many family and friends from abroad who wanted to easily interact with themselves and with us on the night before the wedding and the morning after. When we were finished dancing on your special day, it was a relief to just take the elevator up to our room. Another advantage was the bundled catering from excellently trained chefs, which also saved money compared to other venues in the area.
3) Food: The sheer number of options spanning diverse cuisine is dizzying. I really appreciated the ability to work with the executive chef to incorporate custom home recipes for Indian dishes native to the northeastern state of Assam (which you don’t find represented in Indian restaurants in the US). The dishes ended up quite tasty and pretty authentic! Rest assured, guests will fondly remember the food at the Hotel du Pont.
4) Martha Barnes (Markie), catering sales manager and in-house day-of coordinator. She organized and managed the logistical nightmare that was our tri-cultural wedding, and she did it with poise. She handled our incessant emails asking for details regarding the planning process. She deftly answers the litany of questions hurled at her from multiple excited family members during our final meeting prior to the wedding. She was always present and always reachable. -

Everyone was incredible. My daughter fell in love with the look of the venue as did I. That is not what makes Hotel du Pont, Hotel du Pont. Every person employed there did their utmost to make our wedding and stay spectacular. Markie made sure the wedding was fabulous. Our people left valuable items in the lobby and the lovely people who work there kept them safe until they could be claimed. The doormen and valets were all nice, courteous and kind. The food was outstanding. I asked my husband if we sold our house how long we could stay there. Do your self a favor and put yourselves in the very capable hands of Hotel du Pont, you won't be sorry -

We've been married for a month and are still in awe of how magical our wedding was at Hotel DuPont. On our wedding night my husband said, "I wish we could do this all over again tomorrow!" Markie Barnes, our wedding coordinator, made our entire experience absolutely exceptional from our first visit to tour the hotel, through the 8 months of planning, to our fairy tale wedding day! I don't want to count how many times I emailed Markie to ask (probably quite silly) questions but she was so attentive to details, is so enthusiastic, encouraging, and responsive. I know I would have been pulling my hair out if I didn't have her to rely on but the entire time leading up to the wedding, my friends and family were amazed at how stress free I was- and that's thanks to Markie!! Every detail was executed perfectly. Hotel DuPont exceeded our dreams! -

The entire staff at Hotel du Pont was friendly, professional and just amazing! The venue itself is breathtaking, but the quality of service is really what shines here as a wedding location. So many of our guests just had wonderful things to say about the staff, and the whole day could not have gone more perfectly - which I credit to Markie (the coordinator), the catering managers, the valets, serving staff, bartenders, and every single person at Hotel du Pont. They thought of details that I would have missed (bringing the flowers from the wedding to the breakfast the next morning, providing food in the suites where the bridal party got ready, etc.). Just fantastic! It is a pricier venue, but the food was out of this world, the look of the rooms are so unique and breathtakingly beautiful, and then it was a joy to work with each staff member. -

Better day than we could've ever expected! Our wedding coordinator, Markie, was so responsive and accommodating throughout the whole process and anything we asked for she and the hotel met our expectations or went above and beyond. We had our wedding in October 2015 in the Gold Ballroom and every guest I have seen since the wedding has told us it was either the nicest or one of the nicest weddings they have ever attended, and we had some picky people since the majority of our guests were from the NYC area. The food was fantastic and we even had a professional chef attend our wedding that raved about it and the staff at the hotel for the whole weekend were so friendly and the service was just top of the line. You're really getting what you paid for with having your wedding here, we thought it was absolutely worth it. Thank you so much Markie and the Hotel du Pont! -

We had an unbelievable experience at Hotel duPont for our wedding. They provided a gorgeous ballroom for our reception and the food was nothing short of the best food we have ever had. The hotel rooms that were given to our guests were spectacular and HUGE. We all thought we received suites instead of deluxe rooms. The service was impeccable and our wedding planner that was assigned to us, Markie, was very responsive and incredibly sweet throughout our entire process. I really am still in awe with how wonderful our venue was. In five years when we want to renew our vows, we will most definitely be doing it at hotel duPont again. They did an outstanding job and made our guests feel very special the entire night. -

The professional and accommodating wedding staff at the hotel were only too happy to work with my daughter to have her realize every wish for her wedding reception. The lamb chop carving station was unbelievable - so delicious. My family and friends are still raving about the venue, food and accommodation. One of our quests said it perfectly, "This wedding reception was like no other I ever attended - fabulous!" -

I can't say enough positive things about the Hotel du Pont as a wedding venue. We had our ceremony in the Du Barry Room and the reception in the Grand Ballroom. Both spaces are absolutely gorgeous and truly provided us with a dream wedding. Everything was more beautiful than I ever could have envisioned. All of the services provided by the Hotel, from the food to the cake to the dessert presentation to lighting for the ceremony and reception, were top notch. The entire staff at the Hotel was wonderful to work with, and the hotel suites were amazing.
However, the best part of having our wedding at the Hotel was the opportunity to work with our wedding coordinator, Kim Mackin. She was absolutely amazing to work with. We had a fairly long engagement and booked the Hotel more than a year and a half prior to our wedding date. Needless to say, I had a lot of questions and Kim was extremely responsive to every single one of them throughout the entire planning process. She was so on top of the details, and made me feel extremely confident that the entire day would go according to plan.
We could not have asked for a more perfect wedding venue, and highly recommend Kim Mackin and the Hotel du Pont! -

Our wedding day (reception) at the Hotel du Pont was perfect. We had the pleasure of working with Kim Mackin. From the first time we met her, we knew we wanted her to work with her with our wedding planning. She was very professional, on the ball, and fun to work with. She was extremely helpful and really gave us confidence going into the day that everything would be perfect.
As for the venue, we were in the Gold Ballroom. The room is extremely beautiful and elegant. We are continuing to hear how it was the most elegant venue/reception people have ever been too. Everything else about the day was excellent as well - from the food, to the service, to every little detail that the Hotel du Pont put into the day.
Our reception at Hotel du Pont was perfect - highly recommend the Gold Ballroom and working with Kim Mackin! -

Hotel du Pont was wonderful! We had an amazing experience from the time we signed the contract until our day arrived. We could not have been more fortunate to work with Kim Mackin who provided helpful guidance and was always extremely organized and upbeat. She made the planning process so much easier and made me feel confident that everything would be perfect. The food at du Pont was delicious, and I could not have been happier with how beautiful the du Barry room and Grand Ballroom looked. We are still receiving compliments from friends and family about what a wonderful event it was. Many guests took advantage of the hotel block and were extremely impressed with the rooms and service that was extended throughout their stay. -

The Hotel duPont was superb!! The service was excellent!! A couple of months into the planning our catering manager moved, and I felt frustrated having to start from scratch with someone new. Boy was I wrong, Jennifer was amazing and picked up right where the last person left off. When there was an issue she did everything in her power to fix it or make it right. My wedding day was a fairytale, I could not imagine it being any other place. -

From our very first meeting with Kim Mackin, we knew we had chosen the perfect venue. Her level of professionalism is unmatched. Every detail, from the food and menu choices to providing the magnificent bridal suite and even making sure my husband and I were taken care of, before she left late the evening of the reception. Thank you, Kim!
The Hotel DuPont speaks for itself. Once one experiences a wedding reception , at this venue, nothing will ever compare. The elegance of the ballroom, the superb menu and hors d'oeuvres , the bar and special "signature cocktail, the staff from the waiters and waitresses ( so accommodating ), to the front desk, even the bell hops, couldn't have been more professional and helpful!
Thank you for providing , our daughter, the "fairy tale wedding" she always dreamed of!

Provided: Day-of coordinator (package), overnight accomodations (discounted for guests), catering (package), ceremony venue (additional fee), cake (package), specialty lighting (additional).
The ceremony was held in the beautiful duBarry ballroom and the reception in the Gold Ballroom, for 225 guests.
A few years ago, the bride saw a photo, in a Bride's magazine, of a bride and groom dancing in the Gold Ballroom. She said "that's where I want to get married!"
She had two major requests, of a venue; it have rooms for guests to stay overnight and the ballroom have high ceilings. The Hotel duPont was the only venue visited.
The MOTB was happy: Delaware doesn't charge a sales tax, a lot was included (i.e. cake and coordinator), uplighting and pin lights were available, and the ceremony could be accomodated on site.
52 rooms were reserved, for 104 of the guests; everyone was happy to get a discounted, wedding group rate, and raved about the hotel, accomodations and breakfast. And the Hotel is located only a few blocks off I-95!
The hotel is exquisite. The Gold Ballroom looks like it was modelled on a European castle. The food was plentiful and delicious; some could have made a meal out of just what was offered during the cocktail hour. In fact, the only complaint that we heard was that there was too much to eat!
The staff was phenomenal and anticipated our every need. (with a shout-out to Jennifer, our coordinator, and Angel, who took care of us in the ballroom).
As for comments from our guests: it was the wedding of the century, the best wedding I've ever been to, fabulous, spectacular, magical, and an amazing night. And they're still talking about it!

Honestly, there aren't enough words to describe how wonderful this venue is. From the day you sign the contract to the moment you go to your hotel room once the wedding is over, they truly make every part of the process wonderful. My husband and I worked with Kim who is such a delight to work with. She made the process so enjoyable and answered every ridiculous question we had! The staff there really makes you feel like you are the most important wedding they have ever hosted, which is such a nice feeling since they are doing this every single weekend! The venue is the most beautiful place to have a wedding because there are so many details, so there is always something new to look at. (even the lobby is incredible!) We heard that when they opened the doors to the gold ballroom, no one walked in for 5 minutes because everyone was taking pictures and in awe of the room. I could honestly go on and on about this venue because they are really that good. The food is incredible, the staff is incredible, and the overall experience is incredible. You can't go wrong with the Hotel du Pont! -

Let me begin by saying that I am not originally from Delaware--on the other hand, my now husband was born, raised, and has never left Wilmington to live anywhere else. With that being said, when we were first engaged he talked about weddings in Wilmington and a reception at the Hotel Dupont Gold Ballroom as the "golden ticket" of venues. As you can imagine--the Hotel had to fulfill wild expectations and....they absolutely lived up to and beyond their reputation as one of the most beautifully fabulous places to host the biggest day in our life! I have received compliment after compliment from our wedding guests---not only from those who attended the reception but also my out-of-town guests who stayed at the hotel. My husband and I had the most professional and individualized treatment during the planning phase and I can't say enough how happy I was with Kim Mackin who made sure that every detail went off without a blip. She was pleasant and kind and completely accommodating/available. Jillian Cournoyer was our initial contact---she was the very first impression I was able to make of the hotel and we never looked back!! Our suite on our wedding night was over the top and the dressing areas for my bridal party prior to were an added bonus. Thank you again Hotel Dupont for making our day FABULOUS!! -

Kim Mackin and honestly the entire staff at the Hotel Dupont were amazing from our first meeting until we got in the car the morning after. Because of budget constraints, we wanted a Jan/Feb wedding, and the hotel really gave us a great deal. We visited 23 reception venues in NJ, PA, and DE, and ultimately the Hotel was easily the best venue overall (quality of catering, historical significance, architectural beauty, friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, etc, etc). What was really surprising to us was that it was also in the same price range as most of the "average" venues, and significantly cheaper than any of the other top five sites.
From our first consultation until the days following, Kim was ultra-responsive to every email and phone call, and even within the first weeks while we were still deciding on a venue, she treated us as if we had already paid tens of thousands of dollars. We must have exchanged a hundred or more emails with questions and responses, and we had no worries or frustrations going into our wedding day. Everything went smoothly - the mashed potato bar was a hit - and the dinner was out-of-this-world. The staff from the valet parking to the bell hops to the front desk to the bartender were all top notch, friendly, and practically tripped over themselves to offer us help.
The only criticism of the entire process was that the food we had at the tasting was slightly different than what we had at the reception. Specifically, the butternut squash had less sauce at our reception, and the dressing on our salad changed from a balsamic vinaigrette to a creamy dressing. Now, it's hardly a criticism (and honestly, it's the only one we can think of), and the food was some of the best I've had in my life (and our guests still can't stop raving). It was just a little unexpected, especially given the attention to detail with every other part of the night.
Kim had no problems with all of our custom requests like special liquors at the bar and placement of different decorations for the ceremony and reception. She really felt more like a wedding consultant from start to finish than just representing the hotel.
Our complementary suite after the reception was jaw dropping luxury every time we entered another room. I won't ruin the surprise for prospective couples, but I will never be able to top the night we spent at the hotel for my wife without going bankrupt. It was an incredible start to our marriage - one that we'll never forget.
I would very highly recommend the Hotel Dupont to family and friends, and if you don't think you can afford it, have a winter wedding - it was phenomenal and affordable. -

The Hotel duPont was a dream wedding site. Our ceremony and reception were both held in the same location, but 2 different rooms. The Gold Ballroom is breathtaking! The one thing my husband wanted was high ceilings and they are 31 ft high, walls are hand etched, just gorgeous. Food was great, staff was very helpful. They also appoint a wedding coordinator through the hotel, ours was Jillian and she was amazing! I emailed her ALL the time with little questions and she was always there to help me out. The rooms in the hotel are also very nice and spacious. 5 stars all the way! -

You will never find a more elegant and beautiful reception location than the Gold Ballroom of Hotel duPont. It is a 5 star hotel in downtown Wilmington, DE. Built in the early 1920's it's decor and lavish rooms are are exquisite. The service is impeccable and they work with you to create a day that is wonderful. We never had to worry about anything the day of our wedding because the staff at hotel duPont are so thorough and on top of every detail. The food is amazing, the guest room rates that they offer are incomparable for this type of luxury, and the amazing ambiance is breathtaking. I will always cherish my wedding day at hotel dupont. We still go back to stay on our anniversaries and they still offer us an amazing room rate with champagne and strawberries. They also gave us two nights complimentary in the one bedroom suite. It was amazing. Book your wedding now! -

My husband and I did alot of research to find the perfect venue for our wedding. When we visited the Hotel duPont we knew immediately that it would be the perfect venue. It was exactly what we were looking for elegant, charming, beautiful, and close proximity to our ceremony.
For the year leading up to the wedding I worked with Jennifer H. who was absolutely amazing!! Jennifer and the rest of the hotel staff paid attention to every detail which made our reception flawless (they even decorated our wedding suite with rose petals and left chocolate strawberries and champagne)! Our guests all received their food at the same time and it tasted delicious...just like our initial wedding tasting!
We received so many compliments from our guests regarding the reception, cocktail hour, food, ambiance, and beautiful guest rooms. In fact my husband and I decided we would spend our first year anniversary weekend back at the hotel in a suite similar to the one we were compted the night of our wedding.

My husband and I fell in love with the hotel the first time we saw it. It was everything we were looking for...elegant, charming, friendly staff, amazing ballroom. We knew we had to be married here. Everyone asked us why DE (we were from PA) but we told them the ballroom is just jaw dropping gorgeous! The attention to detail the hotel provided and the responsiveness of the staff was flawless. We worked with Jillian and she was the absolute best! She was so easy to work with and so quick to respond to any of our inquires. Leading up to and including the day of the wedding we knew we could count on Jillian. She made everything at the hotel so easy. The food was spectacular, we recieved so many compliments. Our overall experience with the Hotel duPont was excellent. We are so happy to have celebrated the most important/best day of our lives there and we look forwarding to revisiting the hotel for other occasions as well. -

From beginning to end our experience with the Hotel DuPont was amazing. Jillian, our wedding coordinator (through the Hotel) was fantastic. No request was to big or to small. She never made me feel like I was putting her out, even though I felt like I called or emailed her with a new request everyday. They made every aspect of our experience special and as stress free as possible. We were very well taken care of.
Most of our guest were coming from out of town, so we were concerned that the room block would be an issue, but the reservations department (Ralph in particular) went above and beyond to help accommodate all of our guests- and our guests loved their stay. The rooms are beautiful and the staff is amazing. The hotel is wonderful and elegant by any standards, but considering the discount you and your guests get in the wedding block, it is really out of this world.
The day of, again, Jillian was amazing. Everything went off without a hitch. The Gold Ballroom was stunning. The rest of the staff, the servers, bartenders, etc were so professional and a delight as well. The food was not as good as it was at our tasting, but my expectations are never super high for wedding food (except for the desserts, which were outstanding). Tough to cook a fillet perfectly for 200 people at once. Everyone seemed to enjoy it though, and we received a lot of compliments on the hors d'oeuvres and the desserts. -

Perfect Wedding
The hotel made my Covid nightmare of a wedding turn into a fairytale! We had our October wedding at Hotel DuPont after Covid had forced us to change our original plans. We ended up re-planning the entire wedding almost from scratch in a 4 months, and picking the hotel was the best place to have it. It is absolutely stunning and they worked with us to help us stay in budget while also having everything we wanted. Sandy was great to help coordinate and worked well with my wedding planner. Occasionally we would have some trouble getting in touch but for the most part everything went smoothly. The day of everything went perfect and I didn’t have to worry about a thing, everything was taken care of for me. I recommend this place to anyone who is looking in Delaware!-

Michele B. from the hotel DuPont did our wedding cake and it was so beautiful and delicious! We went with the Swiss chocolate and lemon pound cake and everyone raved about it :) She created exactly what we wanted and we were so happy with the final product. The cake tasting was my favorite part of the planning process. Michele sat down with us and walked us through several options and what would and would not work given the details of our event- she is extremely knowledgeable about her craft. Highly recommend! -

From the minute we put our deposit down to the last seconds of our GORGEOUS reception, the HDP was exceptional. Our wedding coordinator, Jillian, was extremely helpful and attentive throughout the entire project. In fact, at times I thought she was only planning my wedding, but I knew she was planning several. The venue was amazing, the staff was well-coordinated and amorous, and the rooms were one of a kind. It is truly a place perfect for a princess' wedding, and that is exactly how I felt.

Our entire wedding party and majority of our guests stayed at Hotel du Pont in Wilmington, DE and it was everything we could ask for. The hotel staff was extremely courteous, accommodating and very responsive, in particular the event manager, Charles Stephenson, whom we worked with directly throughout out the entire process. All of our requests, questions, etc. were addressed within 24 hours and the team did everything possible to make sure our wedding weekend went off without a hitch. The hotel itself is exquisite, and the rooms are very spacious. All of our guests were very impressed! -

We were very pleased with the Hotel DuPont and their services. Yes, they are expensive but the quality of food, beverage, and the ambiance of the Gold Ball Room is top notch. Only one minor negative - our representative changed mid-stream due a promotion. Both were good but it was a little disruptive. -

The most beautiful wedding, but lacking in execution of some details
Our wedding was absolutely beautiful, and we couldn't have been more happy to have held it at the Hotel Du Pont. Our guests are still raving about it being the best wedding they've ever been to. All that being said, as the bride, I felt there were many many things we loved about it, and quite a few things that could have been improved upon. The first, being that our wedding coordinator changed 5 times from the time we booked, 2 of which we were told about, 3 of which we were not. Because of this, we found communication to be lacking, especially given the coronavirus outbreak, we thought that it should go without saying to keep in touch with your clients who have imminent 2020 weddings. However, we did not hear from the Hotel for several months, and by June, I reached out to who I thought was our 4th coordinator- only to have our emails never responded to. It took quite a few emails before Sandy, our fifth and final coordinator caught that we were not being responded to and informed us she was taking over our wedding. I loved having Sandy handle our wedding very much! I think she is amazing, but we could not shake the feeling that they should have been more on top of reaching out to remaining 2020 brides with securing back up dates without any prompt from us, and this did not happen. Maybe that's overreaching for us since they were of course short staffed. When it came to changing the wedding to maintain the proper restrictions- it felt as if overall, the hotel was very prepared to accommodate us which we appreciated so much, but there were several things that were done on the day that we were not clearly made aware of. For the ceremony, we felt that we were told that friends and family would be separated. Apparently, there were no chairs at all for friends, leading to many people attending a black tie wedding standing, which I did not like at all, and did not feel this was communicated clearly to us or we would have absolutely not allowed it. I brought the escort cards/menus with me, and was going to put them in the appropriate places to ensure my seating chart was correct, and was convinced to give it up to the banquet managers to sort out, and assured it would be done correctly. My parents and my husbands parents tables were completely backwards, meaning my parents and husbands parents had their backs to the dance floor, rather than facing it. 2 guests' menus from a completely different table were placed at the head table, directly next to my husband and I , rather than our bridesmaid and groomsman who were to sit there. We were told at our details meeting that my husband and I would have use of a car to take us to pictures, and we arranged that several groomsman would take the wedding party. I found out in the lobby that there was no car to take us to the site, which was incredibly frustrating. The brunch that we hosted was missing 2 menu items that were given to us on the original menu at the time of booking by the first coordinator we had, and there was not enough food at all. I also found there was not enough food at the getting ready rooms at all either. Overall we would not change where we had our wedding, but the execution of the details was not where we wanted it to be for our event. We still loved having our wedding here, and like I said, we would not have changed it for the world. Sandy was amazing at answering questions we had and maintaining our expectations throughout the pandemic. -

Fairytale Wedding But I Barely Survived
Our wedding turned out beautiful and a fairytale. Our guests were awed by the history and grandeur of the hotel. Our guests said that the food was great and cake was yummy! One even told me that it was the best cake they've ever had! However, all this came with an emotional price. Granted the hotel had staff transitions. Regardless, here are the wrongs: rooms for my guests were not readily available by check in time (delay time for almost an hour), bridal room arrangement was incorrect (different from what was agreed upon), food for lunch at the bridal room was not served at the time agreed upon on contract, the number of our hotel room blocks were incorrect (corrected with only a month left), and biggest headache of all, ALL of the wedding finalization details were sent to me JUST 3 DAYS prior to when full payment is due (contract said that it would be sent to me "no later than 30 days prior to my event date"). Communication was very much lacking with some emails left unanswered or forgotten. After all this experience, is it still worth it? For my guests, yes. For me, who planned the whole wedding, maybe not. -

Never Get Married Here
Here is an email I sent to management:
“I recently got married at Hotel DuPont on Saturday, October 4th. While the day was perfect thanks to our fabulous outside vendors, family, and wedding party, I’m reaching out to share that we were less than pleased with the entirety of our experience with hotel DuPont from management to execution of details to the overall lack of initiative and accommodation given the summation of the cost and meaningfulness of the day.
Throughout the last year, we have been communicating and working with Jessica Tracz who was assigned our wedding weekend. I use both words / phrases of “communicating” and “working with” lightly as she only managed to further complicate our lives and plans while somehow managing to increase expenses by thousands of dollars on our end due to her incompetence and lack of accountability which she refused to help navigate or mitigate. Not only were her emails teeming with attitude, arrogance, and ignorance, but they were few and far between ultimately leading to her single handedly giving away the space we were slated to use at the hotel for our rehearsal dinner and rehearsal which led to my husband and I having to scramble to make other plans and footing the bill for additional guest transportation to get everyone to a new location to dine. Through the breakdown of our event, we were promised in writing that we could rehearse in a different space that Jessica would set up to emulate our actual ceremony room, but upon arrival, she was not there, and the space was set up for a conference with black rolling chairs and tables. Again, we had to scramble to make it work given the time we had. While this was a terrible chain of events, it was not the only consequence of Jessica’s poor emailing habits.
It is so challenging to plan a wedding let alone a wedding you are 3,000 miles away from and 3 hours behind. I am a teacher, and my husband and I live in California. Throughout our time planning, we were both in a constant state of stress due to Jessica’s emails that were both sparse in appearance and sparse in shared information. While trying to maintain our full time jobs with fidelity, a feat that Jessica most certainly proved to be impossible for her to the point where I had to email her as I do my students: as a warm demander expecting more from the person in front of me, she still showed a lack of responsibility and basic kindness.
Beyond Jessica’s malfeasance, the entirety of hotel DuPont treated us as second class citizens, and not those worthy of attention and priority because we did not do our full wedding at their site. To our disappointment, using Hotel DuPont for just the rehearsal, room block, after party, brunch, and ceremony was not enough to garner the time and attention worthy of guests who included the big money getter: the reception. We only managed to do everything else but our reception which clearly sorted us into the “less than” pile and landed us with an underperforming and new wedding planner which would have been fine if she had received proper upper management guidance and support but in its absence, became the undoing of our plans. We were not permitted to book out the Green Room for our after party because that was a privilege only allotted to couples who chose to do their entire wedding at the hotel, and even when trying to get in contact with both the Green Room and Le Cavalier, we were given the run around for months, promised time after time that someone would call us back and all we had to do was simply “click on the link” and “fill out the form”. While we very much understand the package deal being offered to guests searching for an “all inclusive” option, there were never alternative solutions offered, and we were made to feel inferior. With the time difference and our demanding jobs, adding another person’s responsibilities to our laundry list of tasks left us feeling overwhelmed and upset while further exacerbating feelings of exasperation and defeat, none of which should ever be associated with wedding day planning.
These feelings of unworthiness persisted throughout our experience with guests touring the space we were in while we were doing our first look and reciting our vows even after our photographers asked them to move or whisper. The employee leading the tour declined to acquiesce and took their time loudly showing the group the ballroom as I ascended the stairs to meet my now husband and share my deepest feelings about our future together. It was so special to hear all of the thoughtful words he had to share about our lives as a random person’s voice echoed around us about the options available to the potential bride and groom, should they choose to book the entire wedding exclusively with DuPont, of course. While it was an unpleasant experience for us, I’m sure it ended up being a deeply unfavorable showing for the impending booking couple as it emphasized DuPont’s commitment to cashing the check over creating a personal and lovely experience for people on a pivotal day in their lives which seems to have been an afterthought throughout the entirety of our experience.
As someone who worked as a banquet server, specifically catering weddings, at Greenville country club for over eight years, I understand the esteemed responsibility of the venue and employees to create the day the wedding couple and family envisioned. It is hard work and can often be repetitive. As a wedding employee it can be easy to become disenchanted with the BEO hanging in the galley as you stare into a 15 hour work day knowing you have to set everything up and break everything down while catering to the impromptu demands of your VIP bridal guests. I understand these feelings and have lived them. This isn’t a special day for the hotel or the workers- in fact, it’s business as usual which can certainly reduce the feelings of magic and excitement, but to my husband and I, like many brides and grooms I have served in the past, it was a day we only got to experience once to be with all the people we love in one space where it could have and should have been up to hotel DuPont to make as special as possible.
There have been so many weddings before ours and there will be so many weddings after ours, and hotel DuPont can continue to ride the coattails of the venue’s historical significance and esteemed guest list but know that DuPont’s specious, sneaky, and greedy actions do not make the hotel rooms cleaner, nor the showers less caked with sludge and hair of occupants past. It does not make the wedding planners more competent or kind as they write emails using lines like “per my last message” after promising use of a space that was then retracted months later. It does not make your employees more thoughtful as they knock on guest doors at 9:30 am to see if they had checked out so they could flip the room though contractually checkout is at noon. It does not make the hotel memorable in a way it begs to be remembered. It does not serve Hotel DuPont to live in the deficit mindset of “we can because we always have” because with service like this, eventually you won’t. This email will be publicly posted, and reviews from all of our guests and wedding party will live on the internet and serve as a cautionary tale. For laying down close to thirty thousand dollars we should not have had to wonder or worry at any point, and in hindsight, we regret ever being there. I suggest holding your employees accountable and making your contact information easier to find, although I now understand why you may not want anyone to find it. Should you want to investigate this and actually try to shift the culture at the hotel from one of amateurish behaviors and lackadaisical attitude to pride and intrinsic motivation, I’ll be happy to provide more specifics as well as emails and documentation of Hotel DuPont’s misgivings. With that, we had a beautiful day and a beautiful weekend and will never be going to Hotel DuPont ever again.” -

The worst decision from my wedding
My experience at Hotel Du Pont was abysmal to say the least. While the architecture and design of the hotel is quite elaborate, the same cannot be said for the atrocious service received. I booked a block of hotel rooms for my wedding in September about a year in advance. We dropped off gift bags individually labeled for each guest as the bags contained specific directions for them. The representative we dropped the bags off to was visibly frustrated with it but did not say anything. We learned the next day that the hotel was not giving out bags to specific guests as requested, causing much confusion. When I called them to discuss the representative said they would fix it. But, they continued to just hand out bags without looking at names. When the mother of the bride called again to discuss, they once again said they would fix it. But still, they did not, as evidenced by the fact that we witnessed no more than 10 minutes after that call the Hotel Du Pont representative telling a guest “they are all the same:. It’s not the fact that they handed out gift bags to the wrong individuals, it’s the fact that they blatantly lied to our family multiple times and did nothing to mention the issues it may cause when we dropped off the bags. This was only the beginning of our troubles.
I also stayed at the hotel the night before my wedding and was to be moved to the honeymoon suite the next night. I called multiple times to the front desk and they assured me they would move my bags for me and have a room card ready. Alas, when I came back to the hotel after my wedding, it took 20 minutes to “find” my reservation, even though everything should have been arranged. My new wife and I had to stand at the front desk, in our full wedding attire, while the woman behind the counter struggled to even figure out how to check us in, something you’d think she’d know how to do since that’s a large portion of her job. Again, another example of the lies and deceit by the hotel.
As I stated before, the rooms were elaborate but absolutely needed updating. In both rooms I stayed in the showers did not drain. And in the honeymoon suite the bathtub’s drain stopper did not work and the sink leaked. For a 5 star hotel this shows the lack of attention to detail in what should be one of their finer rooms.
When I talked to family and friends, they all noted similar issues with staff. Multiple guests were charged the full room rate and not the agreed upon block rate causing more confusion. Also, some guests were charged for valet parking even though the block included complimentary valet. But I think more guests would have been better on their own as it took some 20-30 minutes to receive their cars.
We arranged to have my mother pick up the best man’s suit rental from behind the front desk. She picked it up, only to realize when she was over 30 minutes away that she received someone else’s suit. She requested the suit by name but they couldn’t manage that. Then they told the owner of the mystery suit that his suit had been requested by name and picked up. It’s worth it to note that the best man at my wedding and the mystery suit owner do not have even remotely the same name so there’s no excuse.
The lack of attention to detail, atrocious customer service, and lies by the Hotel’s Representatives were experienced not only by myself but also by multiple guests. While this hotel is historic, it is nowhere close to the value they charge.
