Michael and I dreamed about getting married at Historic Shady Lane for several years and finally on July 10th, our dreams came true. The property is drop dead gorgeous. My guests could not stop raving about it. They said it was the most amazing venue they had ever seen, and I agree! The staff, especially Bradania, are sooo wonderful. Planning a wedding is stressful enough, but having to deal with rescheduling due to COVID was nightmarish, but Bradania calmed our nerves and took care of us. She was so comforting in a time with so much uncertainty, we knew we were in good hands. It rained the day of our wedding, but everything went off without issue. It almost looked even more romantic in the rain. Our ceremony was in the greenhouse and the reception was under the large tent, and they quickly swapped the cocktail hour to inside the greenhouse. They offer a lot of on site assistance and management and even allow you to use the antique furniture which added to our whole aesthetic. They are the total package. It was a dream. Best venue ever 🤍✨
From the moment we first toured Historic Shady Lane, my now-husband and I knew we had found the venue of our dreams! The estate is a true vision of beauty, with perfectly kept grounds and an array of stunning ceremony locations. Each spot we visited was more enchanting than the last, but the Rose Garden stole our hearts with its sheer magic!
Caitlyn, the venue director, and the entire HSL team went above and beyond to make our day perfect! Caitlyn’s dedication and support throughout the entire process were invaluable, ensuring we felt cherished and well-cared-for every step of the way.
At the property’s center is a gorgeous greenhouse that served as the ideal backdrop for photos and the designated location for cocktail hour. The reception tent was complemented by a refreshing breeze that our guests adored. The unlimited golf cart rides made for a seamless and comfortable event for everyone involved.
Having the bridal cottage on the property was a game-changer for our wedding day. The all-day access made for a truly easygoing experience, allowing us to relax and prepare without feeling rushed. The groomsmen den was equally impressive, providing a dedicated space for the groom and his party to unwind and bond.
Every detail of HSL feels like a page out of a fairytale. The atmosphere was nothing short of magical, and we would relive this day a hundred times over if we could!!! We are deeply grateful for the unforgettable experience Historic Shady Lane provided!

September 2023 wedding of our dreams
Historic Shady Lane was the perfecf wedding venue! From the start of the tour with Caitlyn prior to booking, we were instantly stunned by how beautiful the property is and how well taken care of it is. We only toured this wedding venue and instantly fell in love with it even though there was snow on the ground the day we toured as the property has so many beautiful features including the greenhouse! Historic Shady Lane has so many beautiful options for ceremony sites and has separate bride and groom suites for the day of to get ready which are both well equipped for the entire day! We were able to spend our entire day on site getting ready, the ceremony and reception and they provided golf carts for easy and quick access around the property. Caitlyn and the HSL team are very responsive and helped make sure our day ran so smoothly along with our day of coordinator team from Sapphire Road. We truly could not have imagined a more perfect wedding venue than Historic Shady Lane!

Wedding Venue of our Dreams
My wife and I got married at Historic Shady Lane (HSL) in September and it was an absolutely perfect experience! For starters the venue is absolutely gorgeous and the property is very well maintained with many different choices for ceremony and cocktail hour locations (we were particularly fond of the Greenhouse Terrace with all of the hydrangeas). We were going for a garden party theme and HSL delivered on that vision perfectly. In addition to all of the beautiful outdoor locations, there was also a beautiful bridal suite for the Bride's party to get ready and a cool and relaxing den for the Groom's party to hang out and get ready. The bridal suite was incredibly open with a ton of natural light which was perfect for taking some of the best photos imaginable. The cottage where the bridal suite was in featured a ton of spots for photo opportunities all around the house. In terms of logistics this venue also delivers from the minute you book it to the end of your event. Throughout the entire process Caitlyn, the Venue Director, helped us every step of the way. She was responsive to questions and helped make all the planning and little details that much easier. The venue staff were incredibly helpful and made the day go smoothly (they even had golf carts so we could get around the property quickly and easily). Booking HSL was the best decision my wife and I made for our wedding and it truly helped the entire vision come to life. If you are reading this and are on the fence, I would say book it! There is truly something for everyone here. There are so many choices for ceremony location and different packages for to fit different budgets that I think any couple would be overjoyed to get married here. Thanks so much to Caitlyn and all of the staff at HSL for making our day truly unforgettable.

One of THE BEST decisions we made!
Historic Shady Lane is/was/will always be the most beautiful venue I have ever been to. A hidden gem that I am so glad we found.
We were planning the wedding from afar - we live in California, my husband is from Ohio, I’m from New York, but we met in Pennsylvania. We wanted to go back to the state where it all started. We knew that the decision making and planning was going to be long distance… and I never expected how stressful that would be. The question soon became, “but where?”.
The ask’s were simple, or so I thought. We wanted an outdoor venue, surrounded by ivy covered trees, a sprawling property with historical buildings placed throughout. If there was a greenhouse, that was an added bonus. This soon became an impossible search. Where to begin? I turned to Instagram and scoured through PA based photographers' instagrams to find inspiration. Just when I thought this method wasn’t working and that we’d have to resort to a wedding directory site… Historic Shady Lane appeared. Not only was it EXACTLY what we were looking for… it was more.
They took care of everything - the tent, the tables, the chairs, the set up and breakdown. They had golf carts to help guests get to different parts of the grounds. They had spaces to get ready. The grounds are immaculate. The only thing you needed to do was make it your own - you chose the vendors, you made it “yours”. Just as every love is different, so is the look and feel of your wedding. I, personally, LOVED that. It would truly be OUR day. I knew instantly that this was the place where we would be getting married and it didn’t take much to convince my soon-to-be husband that this is where we’d be exchanging our vows. And with that, we made the decision.
This next part will make anyone planning their wedding anxious. We put a deposit down… without having visited the grounds in person. Looking back, I would do it a thousand times over if given the chance to. It was one of the best decisions we made.
The first time we visited HSL in person was 4 months before our wedding. How I wish I could relive that moment! It was everything we had dreamed it would be and more. We toured the property with Caitlyn and Mandy (our DOC). They stepped us through our day, and ran through so many of the details we (I) had been obsessing over the previous few months. There was no doubt in my mind that we had made the right decision.
We planned everything from afar. To begin to tell you just how scary that is would not even begin to chip away at that kind of iceberg. It was terrifying! Enter HSL - the property director Caitlyn answered every question, soothed every doubt and stepped in to help at the last minute to help when some unexpected decisions needed to be made. Come the day of the wedding, the HSL staff guided and helped get our party and our guests get everywhere they needed to go. There was never a moment where someone was not available to help. Our day went on without a hitch.
The act of getting married is nerve-racking enough… and to have a team of people behind you who do everything in their power to make it the best day ever for the two of you MEANS THE WORLD in your most anxious-nervous-excited moments. I can not thank the entire team at HSL for making our day the most perfect day.
If you are thinking about having your wedding at Historic Shady Lane, stop thinking. It was one of the best decisions we made and we’d make the same decision if given the chance to do it all over again.

Perfect venue for our wedding
Historic Shady Lane was an amazing venue for our wedding: we were initially impressed during our first visit to the venue, even though it was a drizzly overcast day, it was immediately obvious how well the venue fit with the vision of our day. Throughout the course of wedding planning, the venue’s coordinators were more than willing to help us make sure that the venue lived up to our expectations for our day. The spaces provided for getting ready were fantastic, the ceremony space worked extremely well during our August wedding, and the greenhouse/patio and tent were excellent for our cocktail hour and reception, respectively. Historic Shady Lane was able to accommodate all of our guests and provided a fantastic outdoor setting (which was also great for COVID safety) that made our wedding day memorable and special, and we’d recommend this venue for others.

The most magical venue around!
The moment we saw Historic Shady Lane we fell in love (so did our guests, they are still raving about it)! The estate is tucked away and the moment you enter it feels like you walked into a fairytale. Every single spot is picture perfect! The getting ready areas were incredible and able to accommodate our every need. They also provide golf carts which were amazing for us and our guests since it was so warm on our day.
Caitlyn was a pleasure to work with, her and the staff at HSL were always very pleasant and helpful. We really loved the fact that there were so many ceremony and reception locations to choose from to completely customize your day to fit your aesthetic. With the help of the staff, the amazing locations, and the variety of packages we were able to experience a magical celebration that us and our guests will never forget! For that, we will forever be grateful.

The Most Beautiful Wedding Venue!
Historic Shady Lane was the absolute best venue we could have dreamed of having for our wedding day! Every square inch of the grounds is so well kept and absolutely stunning. Being able to have every part of our day at the venue made the day run so smooth and made me feel so calm as a bride. Caitlyn was amazing to work with and made the whole planning process so easy! There are so many different locations on the property to take photos and every single one is stunning! The tent was perfect for our reception and since it is such a blank slate we could make it unique for our day. All of guests commented how beautiful the venue was and loved the property. The golf cart staff was amazing on the wedding day, especially since it was so hot that it was nice not to have walk everywhere. Could not recommend Historic Shady Lane enough, I wish we could do it all over again!!

A Magical Property
WOW. This place is truly amazing. Not only is it the most beautiful venue, but they ran like a well oiled machine on wedding day. The venue director was incredibly helpful and responsive throughout the entire process, and the staff on the day of executed everything perfectly. Any time I needed to go anywhere, the golf cart was ready for me!
I loved that they had so many ceremony locations to choose from, and the property is kept absolutely immaculate. All of our guests were raving about how beautiful it was. So so pleased with this venue, would recommend to anyone!!

Secret Garden Wedding Vibes
From the moment I first stepped foot on the premises of Historic Shady Lane I knew this was a venue like no other. They say if you can picture your wedding day coming to life then it’s the place for you. And even though my fiancé and I visited in March when nothing was in bloom we could still see the beauty and we knew this was the perfect place for our wedding day. Bradania and the whole HSL team were phenomenal! They worked with us every step of the way and Bradania answered all of our questions promptly. Every single one of our guests were in awe of the beauty of the site. They all said this was the most beautiful wedding that they’ve ever been to. We wed in July and even though it was a hot summer day, the cool shade of the trees kept us all comfortable. If you want a dream wedding like no other, then this is the perfect place for you!

The most magical venue
My husband and I first toured HSL in May 2018, two years before our May 2020 wedding. I worked in the wedding industry in the Pittsburgh area for years and was absolutely blown away by HSL. When we left our tour, we knew we had to book our wedding here. Fast forward, we made the difficult decision to postpone our wedding. Bradania could not have been more supportive. Both my husband and I worked in public health and she was so helpful as we navigated the difficult decision. We knew with his schedule as a frontline worker we didn't have much availability for postponing, but they made sure we found a new date in May 2021.
Our wedding was truly a dream come true. It was better than we could ever imagined. I look at our photos now around our home and I have a pinch me moment. The entire team didn't let a detail go unnoticed and went above and beyond. We had so many compliments from our guests (most from out of town) on how magical HSL was. The owner also went above and beyond going to get a highchair during dinner for our 1yr old ring bearer and interacting with our guests and vendors. We will be forever grateful for HSL. Thank you for helping our dream come to life (finally)!

So Magical!
This venue is SO dreamy. There are so many different areas to get married. We enjoyed having our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all in different areas. People never got bored of where they were! Highly recommend this venue. The staff were phenomenal. You will feel like you are someplace magical when you enter the property, I promise!

Historic Shady Lane is nothing short of incredible. Bradania and staff were all incredibly sweet and helpful. The response to covid necessitated a very short notice delay of our wedding, but aside from there being less flowers in bloom in late summer, the venue and event were all as lovely as we could have hoped. Historic Shady Lane is beautiful and the team just made the whole process!
HSL was the first venue I stumbled across on Wedding Wire back in 2018 so you can imagine I hold a special place in my heart for these grounds and the staff. My (now) husband and I did a walk-through with Bradania and immediately fell in love and signed the paperwork that evening. We had planned for a May 2020 wedding. Now, fast-forward two years to 2020, no one knew we would be entering into a global pandemic! While my friends and family members were all canceling and having to postpone their weddings indefinitely due to COVID restrictions, we were so insanely lucky to be able to have our wedding here. We just felt like we were meant to find this venue and we were so thankful we did back in 2018!
I cannot stress how professional, organized, helpful, and just downright AMAZING Bradania is! It seriously felt like I gained another friend in meeting her and getting to know her through the process. She was always so quick to answer emails and has a recommendation for any question you ask! When we were going through the COVID postponement process in March she was emailing me back minute by minute as she tried to organize everyone from the springtime pushing their wedding back. The girl is incredible! The entire staff during the day of our event were ON THE BALL - if you needed a golf cart, they were there! If you needed a bottle of water, you had it! It was just so refreshing to feel like everyone else had it all covered and all you needed to do as the bride/groom was show up and tie the knot!
On top of all of this, the grounds are just so gorgeous and there is so much room to spread out, decorate, and make it uniquely your own. They have so many different options for ceremony spots and continue to add more each year. The reception tent is huge and not having to worry about renting tables or chairs is so refreshing! They have antique furniture that they keep in the greenhouse to which you can use to help decorate for your day. Not to mention space for yard games and a fire pit. They have thought of everything to make a wedding absolutely incredible...
and our wedding was! We could not have asked for a more perfect day at Historic Shady Lane. All of our vendors and the HSL staff just really killed it and we owe them so many post-COVID hugs. Love this place! Thank you HSL for making our dream into a reality!

The BEAUTIFUL Historic Shady Lane
I wanted to take a moment and express how amazing this place actually is. Due to the pandemic, we had to change our wedding location 2 weeks prior to our wedding. Our photographer, Vince Ha managed to help us find this venue. We needed something quick! Vince got us in contact with them and we had a contract signed! We got lucky to say the least and everything worked out. The Location is amazing for all size weddings! The Groom and groomsman get a great little basement area (with a covered patio) to hang out in while the bride and bridesmaids get a cute little cottage! The Location has a bunch of land for you to choose your perfect spot! I would strongly consider it! If you are still looking for a photographer as well, go with Vince Ha Photography. Vince, Amy, and his sister (all wonderful Photographers at Vince Ha Photography) have great chemistry here and really understand the lay of the land. BEST wedding venue ever!
Historic Shady Lane made my dream wedding come to life! I cannot thank them enough for being the most accommodating venue ever and for having the most beautiful grounds. When I first started working with HSL I was in contact with Lauren Stine (who is the most amazing person ever). I was then transitioned to Caitlin Kohr and she did an amazing job in making the transition as smooth as possible and living up to Lauren’s enthusiasm.
My first praise is that they allow you to use any of their amazing vintage furniture for no extra cost (I visited a venue where they charged you per piece and it was awful). They also work to make sure you are completely setup for your day of. Caitlin allowed us to setup early for some of our DIY pieces that my husband and I had to be apart of. Lastly, they think of all the details. When entering our bridal suite to get ready they had a card and bath bombs for me and it’s little touches like this that show they are SO thoughtful. All of this plus the most BEAUTIFUL venue I have ever seen makes this the best venue to get married at in the country (in my opinion).

magical - centrally located - clean and organized
As listed in nearly every other 5 Star review of HSL, the venue is truly MAGICAL. The first time I visited Shady Lane for a photo shoot 2 years prior to our wedding, I knew this is where I wanted to get married. When my fiance and I took the tour of the venue after we got engaged, he leaned over to me and told me that we needed to keep our options open because this venue was a bit out of our budget. Half way through our tour with Lauren, he pulled me aside and said that he didn't want to look anywhere else because it was absolutely perfect. And on 11.01.19, it was perfect. We were crushed to hear the news of Lauren leaving the venue because honestly she was 90% of the reason we booked the venue. She seemed incredibly trustworthy and dedicated and diligent. And she was. We were hesitant when we were virtually introduced to our new venue coordinator, Bradania, but she filled Lauren's shoes very well. Bradania was quick to answer any questions we had within a 24 hour time frame, sometimes even in just 2 hours. There was a giant rainstorm the night before our wedding, but the new plot of land in the Grove area where we got married wasn't soaked enough to be an issue. We were SO excited to be the first to get married in that gorgeous new woody, earthy location! From planning, to the end of the night wrap up at 11pm, the staff on golf carts and running around the venue were extremely helpful. I have to give a huge shout out to Sara and Katie for manning the firepit with my crazy friends who are total firebugs. You ladies handled them well and with good humor! They can't stop talking about how much fun they had with you. I can't even begin to write down how many people told us the venue was stunning and it was the perfect location for a wedding. The cottage and the den are amazing for green room areas. The greenhouse is perfect as is and hardly needs any decor at all. The tent is jaw dropping and so cozy feeling. We even got to bring our dogs onto the property before the wedding to get photos with them while we were getting ready & with our bridal party! That truly made it even more special. The only mishap we had with the day was our DJs couldn't get their music to play right before the reception as guests were moving in after cocktail hour. They told me they had all set up and tested prior to there ceremony with no bugs, but someone who was tending the lawn of the venue could have possibly run over the cord for their set up when they came down for ceremony & cocktail hour. The issue was quickly resolved by the owner and I didn't hear about it until the day after so it all seemed perfect to me! Thank you, Shady Lane, for making our wedding 100.

Wow! Perfect Venue
My husband and I knew right away that historic shady lane was where we wanted to have our wedding. We fell in love with the look, the amenities, and the staff our first visit (middle of winter). We knew if we loved the look during winter, we would be even more in love when our wedding day came around (fall). The women at the venue were always available to answer all of the questions we had over our two year planning. When our wedding day came, they handled everything for us, we didn’t have to worry about a thing. I wish we could do it all over again. Thank you Historic Shady Lane!

The most beautiful venue!
My now husband and I got married here August 30th. Let me just tell you, it was better than I had dreamed of! I knew when I found this venue, it was one. I was in such amazement while touring this place, and it even ruined all other venues that I had toured. The staff there were so helpful and were always quick to answer our many questions. On the day of, I walked into the cottage to find a card and a surprise gift. Staff were always checking in and helpful. I have since had multiple compliments from guests about how it was the most beautiful wedding they have ever been to, and I feel the same about this venue!

Absolutely incredible
This place is incredible. Unbelievable. Magical. You may think I am biased because I got married there, but seriously every other guest at cocktail hour told me they couldn't believe what an incredible venue it was. Bradania will always be there for you to answer even the tiniest of questions and even the owners of the property were around towards the end and chatted with us and were so friendly. We were able to tour the place a few times with different vendors and family members before the big day which really helped with the planning process.
I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH about what is included with the packages. it's actually crazy. The price itself may sound slightly higher than a cheap venue but it is sooooo worth it because you get:
• All chairs and tables for ceremony, cocktail, and reception
• SO MUCH vintage furniture to get amazing photos with
• Draping and chandeliers in the tent
• Chandeliers and ferns on the historic glass greenhouse
• Fans or heat
• Bathrooms and parking
• Staff onsite all day
•Awesome getting ready areas for girls and guys
I am sure I am forgetting a bunch. But the day ran so so so smoothly and I think that is a huge part thanks to Bradania and the HSL. Can't thank them enough!

Stunning!!
It’s obvious to anyone how beautiful Historic Shady Lane is for a venue, but there is so much more than meets the eye! Caitlin and the HSL team did an above and beyond job throughout the entire process. From the initial inquiry, to planning, to the day of… they did an amazing job with organization, implementing our vision, and making the day fun and easy! I can’t thank them enough for everything they did and I highly recommend them to any couples interested in getting married at this gorgeous venue!

Stunning venue!
Historic Shady Lane provided us with a fairytale wedding. They had the most perfect scenery with beautiful views, multiple location sites... bridal cottage, groomsmen den, greenhouse, reception tent, so many locations for all of your wedding needs. Beautiful scenery and greenery for pictures and places to have your ceremony.
Caitlin went above and beyond to make sure our needs were met on the day of our wedding. Great communication! Overall exceeded our expectations and we couldn’t have asked for a better day. Historic Shady Lane will forever have a place in our hearts.

Amazing People, Dog & Grounds
We randomly happened upon Historic Shady Lane while working with our wedding planner Cindy from Planned Perfection. Cindy had nothing but amazing things to say about Lauren, the director and the property. We actually booked this venue before ever visiting just based on reviews, recommendations and photos. When we finally did the get the chance to visit, we were amazed! This property is incredible! There are so many options for ceremony locations and even more options for photos. The reception area is huge and can be transformed into whatever vision you have for your wedding. We went with a green and white theme and it turned out like a fairytale. Our guests kept saying to us how beautiful this place was and that this is the most gorgeous venue they had ever been to. Lauren deserves an entire review to herself. She is incredible, kind and funny. She made the entire planning experience so much easier than I was expecting (she is now at Mountain Laurel Catering who catered our wedding and would highly recommend as well).

Simply Perfect
Historic Shady Lane was instantly the perfect place for us to tie the knot! They offer so many different areas as well as everything you could possibly need from a venue. We fell in love with their greenhouse and all the natural, simple touches on their property! We are so excited for HSL to host our wedding!

A true gem
Historic Shady Lane was the perfect location for our wedding! From the first moment that we visited Historic Shady Lane, we knew it was the perfect venue for us. We loved the history of the property and the beautiful grounds. The flexibility of various places that you could have the ceremony was a great benefit and we loved the getting ready spaces. The bridal cottage was so wonderful for preparing for the day with my bridesmaids and family and my husband loved the den to hangout with his groomsmen. Lauren was super attentive and responsive throughout the entire process. The directory provided by HSL was also super helpful in starting to find our other vendors. Lauren and the entire HSL staff were very friendly and helpful on our wedding day and we appreciate everything they did. HSL is truly a gem in Central Pennsylvania. Most of our guests were from out of town and had never been to the area but even over a year later, tell us how beautiful the venue was and that it made the trip even more wonderful! On our wedding day, we initially were going to do our ceremony in front of the house, but a rain storm was coming through and our ceremony was moved to the greenhouse. It turned out to be perfect and so intimate and unique! It was one of our favorite things about the venue from the beginning and our focus on nature and plants for our wedding was complimented by the historic greenhouse. We highly recommend Historic Shady Lane to any couple getting married!!

Fairytale wedding
My husband and I got married at Historic Shady Lane on October 6. We had the best day of our lives! Everything went so smooth and I have the staff at Historic Shady Lane to thank! The girls were with me every step of the way through the wedding process answering any questions that I had. They were there on my wedding day to make sure everything was exactly how I wanted it. Not to mention everything there is absolutely beautiful! Our photos turned out amazing because of the gorgeous scenery! Altogether, I highly recommend this venue!

Fairytale Venue
As soon as my husband and I set foot on property, we knew this was our venue. The whole property is gorgeous and a blank canvas, so you can truly put your own flair into how you want your day to look. It truly was the most perfect day and we could not have done it without the amazing staff at HSL. Our family and friends raved about the property and a great time was had by all. Thank you HSL for all you do for your couples!!!

Absolutely stunning! The greenhouse and bridal cottage are to die for! The staff are all super easy to work with. Lauren was always available to answer questions during my planning process and the staff on the day of my wedding were so accommodating and made everything easy. There are no limits to wedding design possibilities here and Lauren assisted with floorpans and table layouts for both cocktail hour and reception. I loved that tables and chairs were all included at this venue! Located close to several nice hotels and restaurants. Plenty of onsite parking and golf-cart transportation for guests. My only complaint was having to schedule our rehearsal for Friday morning due to a wedding booked for Friday evening, but even this worked out nicely!

A dream come true! Historic Shady Lane was the most incredible venue for hosting an outdoor wedding ceremony and tented reception. Lauren at HSL went above and beyond throughout the entire planning process. She thought of every detail and recommended the most amazing group of local vendors. We were thrilled to share the awesome views and gardens at HSL with our guests. It was truly a dream destination for a June wedding in central Pennsylvania. Highly recommend!

It's hard to put into a short review how incredible HSL is. To give a sense of what our guests thought of the venue, neither my wife nor I are from the York area, so everyone had to drive or fly in for our wedding. Still, not only did no one complain, but EVERYONE told us (and still does) how amazed they were. It's obvious how beautiful it is from the photos & if you visit you'll be hooked right away like we were, but an underrated part is how customizable HSL is. With so much space and so many awesome areas to work with - the area by the sun dial, the greenhouse & patio, the tent, the areas outside the tent and the greenhouse, etc - you can really set your wedding up however you want (as opposed to some venues where you're sort of locked into doing things the way they always do them).
As for the staff, I honestly can't imagine there is a kinder, more helpful, more understanding, and down to earth venue manager in the wedding industry than Lauren. She was always available to help us via email, text, and call when we had a question, and she always got back to us quickly with thorough responses. The day of the wedding, she was always around to make sure we were doing well, didn't need anything, and were just enjoying the day. Her staff that day were incredible as well, constantly driving around a few of our older family members who needed assistance. We got several compliments about the staff from our guests because of how nice and helpful they all were.
One last thing: Some venues have their own caterer and alcohol service that you pay for and use, and for some people, that's preferred. If you want to save a TON of money and get fully customized food and drinks for your wedding though, HSL is perfect. Lauren gives you a list of vendors she trusts (or you can use your own) & you'll cut your bill in half (maybe more).
Overall, HSL was the perfect venue for us and we could not be happier with how everything turned out. Thank you so much Lauren & staff!!

Historic Shady Lane made my wedding dreams come true! From the moment my fiancé and I arrived for our first venue tour of Historic Shady Lane we knew it was the one. The lush green landscape, Glass Greenhouse, and the Historic buildings where a perfect backdrop for our Gatsby Theme. The large property has multiple Ceremony spots, cocktail hour location, and a beautifully draped tent with chandeliers and lighting. There is the cutest decorated cottage for all the ladies to get ready in that is far away from the Den where the guys get to relax before the ceremony. You get to choose your own vender team which can help anybody achieve there desired budget. I would highly recommend attending one of the Behind the Bash events if your looking to meet some of their preferred vendors. Lauren was extremely responsive and helpful during the entire process and things went so smoothly on the big day! We were lucky enough to have the most perfect weather and my photographer captured the most breath-taking photos.

Getting married at Historic Shady Lane was a privilege. We had been to a few venue tours before we arrived to HSL and the moment we walked through the venue and met Lauren, we knew this was the place for us. We cancelled every other venue tour we had after seeing HSL. Lauren and Steve were the NICEST people to work with- they were very laid back but so present throughout the whole process. They were the best to work with! And if you haven’t seen Shady Lane yet, it is beyond gorgeous, especially in the fall (I may be biased we go married in October). There are so many different places to get married and then a beautiful green house. It’s everything I ever dreamed of being able to have for my wedding day. Believe me, Historic Shady Lane is worth every penny and every bit of your time to go visit.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Thank you so much to Lauren and the staff at Historic Shady Lane for helping make our wedding day absolutely perfect! My husband and I immediately fell in love the venue and are so happy we chose Historic Shady Lane! There are so many gorgeous areas on the property that you can choose for every part of your wedding day. We chose to have our ceremony in the rose garden behind the main house, cocktail hour at the green house, & reception in the tent. I also loved the bridal cottage and the fact that my bridesmaids & I could celebrate and get ready right at the venue, and the guys had the den to hang out beforehand as well! Everything about this place is a photographer's dream (and a bride's dream!!!!) I had joked with my mom when choosing wedding vendors that I had to make sure I liked the person/business owner/director/etc before making a final decision, needed to have good vibes during the sometimes stressful wedding planning process haha. Right after seeing the property and meeting Lauren in person, I remember saying to my mom THIS IS THE PLACE! Lauren is so extremely kind & helpful, so easy to communicate with, and seriously a Wedding Wonder Woman! From helping pregnant & elderly guests navigate around the property to helping ensure things run smoothly to helping my mom & I figure out some our DIY ideas! Lauren, thank you for everything throughout our wedding day & wedding planning! We plan on visiting in the future, would love the chance to have more photos taken there someday! I really cannot express how amazing Historic Shady Lane is! GET MARRIED HERE!

I have nothing but AMAZING things to say about Historic Shady Lane, Lauren, and the team there. Not only did they do their jobs well but they handled a thousand last minute changes, accommodations, and audibles with outstanding promptness and great attention to detail (all with a smile on their face). I am so blown away by their customer service that I almost forgot to mention that the venue is GORGEOUS and very unique.
I honestly don't think we could have had our wedding anywhere else. At least pay this place a visit!

Historic Shady Lane is the most magical and gorgeous place to hold your wedding! As soon as I got out of the car for my tour, I knew I wanted to get married there! Not only is the property itself amazing but Lauren and Steven were beyond incredible to work with! Lauren answered any crazy questions I had leading up to the event! They truly go above and beyond to make sure your day is nothing short of spectacular, whether it be Steve, the owner, driving you up the hill in a golf cart at the end of the night, or Lauren making sure everything is perfect! I cannot possibly put into words how perfect Historic Shady Lane is. My (now husband) and I live in South Florida. I thought that finding the perfect venue in PA was going to be so difficult. The SECOND that I saw Historic Shady Lane, I knew that I could not get married anywhere else. The staff was super quick at responding to calls/texts/emails. Pictures do not even come close to capturing the beauty and uniqueness of this venue. I would recommend getting married at Historic Shady Lane to anyone and everyone. Our wedding day was truly magical, all thanks to Historic Shady Lane!!

Historic Shady Lane & Lauren were BEYOND AMAZING. If there was anything higher than 5 stars, they would get it in a heartbeat ! I live in Florida, so picking a perfect venue in PA, I thought was going to be a challenge. The second that we saw Historic Shady Lane, I knew that I could not get married anywhere else. The staff was personable, everyone was so kind! This venue seriously could not have been any more beautiful. I would recommend this venue (and Lauren!) to everyone and anyone.

From the moment I stepped foot on the property I knew this was my venue. It was unique, and you could feel the history there. The venue is so well maintained, and hardly needs any decor because of its natural beauty. The cottage that the girls got ready in was spacious and was the perfect setting for photos the day of the wedding. Working with Lauren was so effortless. She was so responsive, answered ALL of my questions, put my mind as ease when I needed it, and just made my entire wedding experience memorable. If I had to do it all over again, I would choose HSL in a heartbeat. It was the venue of my dreams!

Our day was completely incredible!! It turned out better than we ever imagined it to be!! Lauren, Steve & Sue were so helpful throughout the planning process! Lauren always responded in a timely manor and gave her advice and opinions when we needed it! She was such a help for me especially! They are very detail oriented and care that everything is the way that you want it to be! We wish that we could relive our day over and over! We had the best experience at Historic Shady Lane! Lauren made sure that all of our questions were answered, gave such great advice, and made sure that the entire day was a breeze. HSL is the most beautiful venue we toured, and I knew the moment I set foot on the estate that I was going to get married there! We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful venue, more helpful people, or a better experience! Thank you Lauren, and the staff at HSL for making our day perfect, you guys are the best!

Seriouslyyyyyyy...10 months of being engaged, one canceled venue and deposit lost only to come across this major gem. Some things happen for a reason and I am sure glad our messy story brought us to Historic Shady Lane. The venue was 2 hours from onwhere we live but we still managed to go there probably more than 5 times before our wedding day. I loved spending time there, walking around, each time taking photos and anticipating all of our friends and families joining us at this extremely special place! The greenhouse and the bandstand were our favorite areas, the fact that there were bridal and groom suites to spend the morning, wide open spaces to walk around and take in the scenery were all just wonderful bonuses. The staff and their pets were so great, Lauren was awesome to work with, she has a great personality and seems to be the perfect person for this type of job, calm, cool and collected, just what all brides need! I am obsessed with Historic Shady Lane, I am already thinking of reasons to go back, maternity pictures? one year anniversary pictures? It is truly lovely here and with all the options you cannot go wrong. Our day ended up having to be shifted around a little bit because of weather but it did so without a hitch! Plan A, B and C already exist here, your mind can be at ease knowing that no matter the weather your wedding is going to be outstandingly beautiful because it was at Historic Shady Lane. This place will always be special to us! Thank you!

I found this venue online about two years before I was even engaged & it looked beautiful. So, after my husband proposed it was the first one we visited and it's even better in person. I forced myself to visit other places but nothing compares. Everyone is amazing there, and Lauren Stine was very helpful and easy to reach with any questions. Our wedding day could not have been better.

There are not enough words to describe how amazing Historic Shady Lane is! From the day we visited the estate, we knew that we had to have our wedding there. Lauren was AMAZING throughout the whole process, so responsive and helpful. She made the time leading up to the wedding so enjoyable and did everything she could to make it as stress free as possible. We loved being able to get ready on site, the bridal cottage is perfect. The grounds are so well maintained and the staff is there on your wedding day for whatever you need as well. We looked at a bunch of other venues, and nothing came close to Shady Lane. Our pictures turned out AMAZING and everyone kept commenting on how stunning the venue was. All engaged couples should at least go look at the estate, once you see it your heart will be set just like ours was!

It's hard to describe what a magical and beautiful venue Historic Shady Lane truly is. When we first visited, my husband and I turned to one another and knew it was the one. The grounds are breathtakingly beautiful and full of character and charm. There is so much greenery and natural beauty that you feel like you are in your own private retreat. I couldn't imagine being married anywhere else. Our wedding was beautiful because we chose Shady Lane and the amazing team and vendors that came with it. The site itself is a photographer's dream and our photos are a reflection of that. The house is a stunning backdrop for the ceremony and the cottage and den are idyllic for getting done before the wedding. There is so much attention to detail and vintage charm across the landscape as well as in the greenhouse and under the tent. The greenhouse was one of the most beautiful backdrops for our wedding photos. But I also can't say enough amazing things about Lauren who does such an incredible job at running HSL. Her phenomenal Behind the Bash expo helped us select an incredible vendor team and she was so responsive at every step of the way to our questions and always gave amazing advice. It takes more than a beautiful setting alone to create a memorable wedding atmosphere and Lauren is the key ingredient. I really wish I could get married more often so I had an excuse to go back there. All of our guests came from at least a few hours away and many asked why we chose to get married in central PA when we didn't live nearby. We told them it was because we found such an amazing spot to get married in and we knew it would be the (local) destination wedding we hoped for. As soon as I walked into the cocktail hour of my wedding, one of the guests came up to me and said, "WORTH IT!! I didn't know where you were taking us or why it was so far, but as soon as we arrived I understood. THIS is the place for an outdoor wedding". I couldn't agree more!

After looking at 8+ venues, my husband and I toured Historic Shady Lane. Immediately we knew we had to get married there. The grounds are beautiful with so much space and so many options. What really helped sell us though was how incredibly nice and helpful Lauren was. Even before committing to HSL Lauren was helping us find options and ways that we could save money to make our wedding there possible. She was so easy to work with, quick to respond, and offered a great network of vendors. This is what really helped our wedding day possible at such a gorgeous venue.
The grounds are spectacular. They include picture perfect settings and ample space for bridal parties to get ready with plenty of amenities. I loved being able to get my hair and makeup done onsite. Unfortunately it rained on our wedding day. But using the greenhouse as a backup plan for our ceremony was a big reason we liked the venue in the first place as it is beautiful on it's own without the need to add any decorations.
We LOVED having our wedding at HSL and I would recommend it to anyone! We couldn't have asked for a better day!

My husband and I had an excellent experience with Historic Shady Lane. Lauren responded to every one of my emails within 24 hours, most of the time within a couple hours! Lauren made me feel like I was the only bride she was handling! Our wedding day was simply beautiful, with the fall trees and the historic buildings surrounding our ceremony and reception. 5-Stars all around! Top notch wedding venue!

My wife and I aren't from Pennsylvania. In fact, I don't think anyone at our wedding lived within 100 miles of Historic Shady Lane. So inevitably we were asked, why York, Pennsylvania?, when guests started streaming into town. The answer to that question soon became obvious when guests arrived at HSL. The secluded venue was absolutely gorgeous. We got married in the antique greenhouse, which doesn't even need dressing up with how aesthetically amazing it is. Overall, HSL offered a flawless experience, with everything running smoothly before and during the wedding. The fire pit was a huge hit for a mid-October chilly night. HSL is highly recommended for anyone in the DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Central PA area.

This is the most beautiful venue! They were so helpful during our search and were always very responsive. After we made our decision to have our wedding at Historic Shady Lane (the second we walked in), they were so helpful throughout the entire process. Lauren was very friendly and had answers for any question we could throw at her. She made us feel so prepared and excited for our big day. We felt very comfortable on the Estate and the entire staff really makes your day feel extra special. The area is stunning and perfect for our Vintage themed wedding. The bridal cottage AND Grooms Den were a perfect addition and allowed us really to enjoy the entire Estate. The tent for our reception was so large and decorated beautifully. Historic Shady Lane was everything we could have wanted, and so much more. Highly recommend this venue!!!

Lauren and Steve at Historic Shady Lane made our wedding process so easy and flawless. Lauren was in constant communication with me throughout the months leading up to the wedding and answered every little question with ease. She made me feel so relaxed about the entire thing! The venue is absolutely stunning!! Everything about it screamed with beauty. Our guests were floored by the ceremony space, green house and reception tent area. My husband and I's experience was completed by the relaxing locations to get ready for the day. He enjoyed the den with his guys. They were able to all get ready together and greet guests as they arrived. The girls and I enjoyed the bridal cottage where we leisurely enjoyed the breakfast we brought, had a hair dresser come to us to make us beautiful, and enjoy each others company. There was plenty of space in the cottage for our family to pop in and say hello! Overall, this place is amazing! We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day!!!

We absolutely fell in love with this venue! The venue was gorgeous and our guest could not stop talking about it! Steve and Lauren were so wonderful and helpful to work with throughout this whole process! Lauren was very responsive to emails regarding anything related to the wedding! Steve and Lauren are really nice people to work with and be around! I don't think I could say enough positive things about this venue and about Steve and Lauren! We will definitely recommend this venue to anybody and everybody!

If you could have jumped into my mind when I first got engaged and seen the type of setting for my future wedding, you would have essentially been looking at a photograph of Historic Shady Lane and that was before I even knew it existed!! My husband and I knew we needed to be budget-minded but we also had many things we wanted out of a venue including a distinctly unique look, flexibility in vendors, and not to be vague but just a nice vibe. From the second I found HSL online to when we met Lauren (who I'm obsessed with by the way) at our first visit we could not have imagined getting married anywhere else. I cannot, CANNOT recommend HSL or the staff any more highly. My pictures look unreal and the grounds absolutely stole the show the day of. Lauren was an absolute dream to work with as she responded immediately to any and every email I sent and everyone was very flexible working with us to make the venue our own for the day. our guests could not get over the beauty of the place and I assure you, you will not be disappointed either!

I wish there was an option to give MORE stars! Where to start? First and foremost, Lauren, the on-site coordinator, was hands down the easiest and best vendor contact to work with throughout our entire wedding planning process. She was quick to respond, thorough, and SO helpful at all times. No question was ever a dumb question! Second, my goodness, the property!!! The second we stepped foot on the property we knew it was our dream venue! From the beautiful landscape to the homes on the property to the greenhouse... you just can't go wrong with having a wedding here! And last but not least, just the overall friendliness that we received from Steve and Lauren through the planning process and the day of our wedding. It was beyond appreciated!

As soon as I saw the pictures online, I fell in love with HSL. When we visited the venue my then fiancé also fell in love with it. We cannot say enough about how wonderful our experience was. Lauren was always quick to respond to emails and phone calls and is so sweet. Lauren always had an answer or solution for us and worked so hard to make our day perfect. Even though we were planning our wedding from Texas I never felt out of the loop. On the day of, there were some unexpected issues (people who had lent us items decided to remove them that day - including tables, drink dispensers, candy jars, cake stand, etc) which Lauren and our caterer (Tasteful Occasions) handled amazingly, providing all the items which had been taken away. Meanwhile, we remained blissfully unaware of most of the issues. When I saw everything it was absolutely perfect and more beautiful than I had envisioned – no one had a clue anything had ever been amiss. The venue itself is absolutely stunning and HSL was making sure the landscaping and everything was perfect right up until the day of. The Bridal Cottage and Men's Den were very convenient. All of our guests kept commenting how impressed they were with our venue. We cannot say enough good things about HSL - everything was exactly as we had hope for and more!

I don't even know where to start. Our experience at HSL was amazing. The venue is unbelievably beautiful. My husband and I first toured the property in January and fell in love before there were even leaves on the trees. That is how gorgeous this place is! They are constantly making upgrades. The bridal cottage was perfect to get ready in and beautiful for pictures. Steve & Lauren are both so friendly. We immediately felt like old friends. They were very accommodating of all our decor ideas and we found all of our amazing vendors through a list of suggestions they provided. Lauren was great and so helpful. One night she responded to my midnight email within thirty minutes! The wedding went off without a hitch and we are so grateful for all of their hard work. They helped make our day perfect and we can't thank them enough!

Lauren answered any questions we had along the way, and Steve was on top of everything on the day of the wedding. We did lots of unique things, and they were willing to go above and beyond to make sure we had everything we wanted on our wedding day. We got tons of compliments on our venue choice, and are so glad we decided to spend our day at Shady Lane.

Cannot even count how many people said that my wedding venue was "stunning!" and my family from England said it looked like we did a destination wedding on the English countryside. Everything was perfect, from the vintage bridal cottage, to the rustic men's den, the beautiful flowers in the garden and the breathtaking greenhouse! Our pictures turned out AMAZING and we owe it all to the beautiful backdrop of the venue. Steve and Lauren are just the nicest people I've ever met and I'm so glad we chose HSL for our big day! Lauren and Steve were awesome to work with getting all of the details ready for our wedding. The property is beautiful and the bridal cottage was a huge draw for me and my bridesmaids. I loved being able to choose which location on the property to have my ceremony on and that the tables, chairs, uplighting and chandeliers were all included in the price.

We cannot say enough good things about this venue. From the moment we visited through our big day, they were so great to work with. The grounds are so beautiful and there are so many different areas for photographs and events and the whole estate is yours for your wedding day. Both sides of the bridal parties loved their individual spaces, Bridal Cottage and Groom's Den, to get ready and spend time with our closest friends and family. Leading up to our big day, they always replied quickly to answer email questions that we had. They worked with us to visit the venue with our vendors beforehand and we held our engagement shoot there too. I highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for beautiful unique setting to say their vows and get married!

Words cannot describe the absolutely magical day our wedding day was, and I owe so much of that to the wonderful folks at Historic Shady Lane. From day one, Steve and Lauren were so accommodating, and we could not have asked for nicer people to work with! Steve graciously let me enter my ceremony on a horse and carriage, something that had never been done at the venue before (We worked with New Chester Draft Company). The vendors they recommend were all stellar, and the day was simply perfect. Steve and Lauren and the rest of the crew at HSL work tirelessly to make sure everything is perfect and they really turned wedding planning into a dream. I will never forget this day, and our guests will never forget the venue! The landscape is breathtaking and it was well worth having everyone drive 2 hours to enjoy it. I could not recommend this venue more!!!

Historic Shady Lane is the perfect place for any bride to have her dream wedding!!!!! Steve and Lauren are wonderful!!! The place is breathtakingly beautiful and they will pretty much accommodate anything you have in mind for your big day. Lauren was an absolute joy to work with...she was upfront and to the point and professional but at the same time I felt like I had a friend! I planned my entire wedding in only 10 weeks! I was missing deadlines left and right but Lauren stuck with me and helped me out where possible and remained upbeat and friendly the entire time! They may be a little pricey but they are honestly worth every penny! I didn't have to worry about a thing the entire day! First of all I cannot even begin to describe how beautiful this venue is. Our wedding was above and beyond what I imagined. With that being said, Steve and Lauren were incredible! They are both very friendly and provided everything we needed along the way. There are many options for your ceremony settings, as well as bridal cottage with Salon, and den. It had everything we needed and more. I would recommend this venue to everyone!

When I think about our experience with Historic Shady Lane, it is very difficult to put into words just how incredible they were. From day one, Lauren (the venue coordinator) and Steve (the owner) have been PHENOMENAL. We we're engaged for a year and a half before getting married and found our venue at the very beginning of that process. It was an easy sell, as the grounds are breathtaking. Between the rustic barns and buildings to the picturesque greenhouse to the 40x100 tent (complete with full draping, lighting, AND chandeliers), we were SOLD. Having our venue for so long before our wedding, however, meant hundreds (literally) of e-mails to Lauren with question after question. Not ONCE did she waver in her support. Not only did she respond quickly, she always gave me answers that were above and beyond what I'd asked for. She was so helpful in assisting me on vendor choices and when she didn't know the answer to something (which was super rare) she found out for me immediately. Come our wedding day, Lauren and the HSL team were on top of their game, escorting guests from the parking lot to the ceremony via golf cart and getting any and everything my groom and I needed for the big day. Five minutes before our ceremony, the skies opened up and it began to downpour. Within 15 minutes, Lauren and the HSL team had transformed our ceremony space from outside (so bummed we didn't get to use their gorgeous gardens for our ceremony) to the reception tent. They were SO generous and so kind throughout the entire process and never once made us feel like we were a burden. I cannot wait to use HSL again for an event! *Know that I could've written 5 more paragraphs, but there is a character max on WW!

Words cannot express how much I loved my day at Historic Shady Lane.
From the moment we started communicating with Lauren, the process of reserving the estate went smoothly. We looked at a few other places, but none felt right. When we toured the property with Steve, he told us about the history and showed us the variety of places available for pictures and ceremony sites. One of the things I loved most about this venue is their flexibility—they will work with you to have your ceremony where you want it and how you want it. They will drive your grandparents up the hill in golf carts. They will make sure set up goes smoothly and you have everything they need. Lauren and Steve will work with you to make sure your day is not just what you imagined but better.
In addition to the helpfulness of Lauren over email, the kindness of Steve as a crazy bridal party descended upon the site to set up Sunday morning, the all-encompassing beauty of the property there is one other fact that truly stood out to me when my husband and I were looking for venues. While Historic Shady Lane will recommend vendors to you, there are none that you are required to use. This was especially important to me because my wedding vision included a very specific type of catering (barbecue) and alcohol (craft beer).
Yet another selling point of this gorgeous venue (do you need more?) is the inclusiveness of the estate. With men’s den for the guys and a bridal cottage—complete with salon—for the ladies, it’s easy to spend the whole day on the property. And, when everything doesn’t go as perfectly as planned and you, as a bride, take longer than anticipated to get ready, it’s okay! Because there’s foosball and a dartboard for the guys. And you can play foosball with your soon-to-be husband when you find out there’s a traffic jam on Route 30 and delay the start of your ceremony.
Once again, I cannot sing the praises of Lauren and Steve and their crew enough. We had an amazing day.

Steve and Lauren from Historic Shady Lane are simply incredible. They went above and beyond for me in every way. From providing help with floor plans and decor, to calming me and providing vendors for tent rentals when I realized it was going to rain on all my guests! Steve even brought us one of his personal frying pans from his house to make breakfast with when we realized we had not brought an extra one to cook breakfast for ourselves at the bridal cottage- something that seems so insignificant, but makes all the difference when you're a bundle of nerves! It made me feel like we were his personal guests- which is such a wonderful feeling to have on your wedding day.
I always felt like I was in extremely capable hands throughout the entire process of planning my wedding. Even though there were 3 weddings on the weekend of my wedding (Friday/Saturday/Sunday), Lauren and Steve made me feel like I was always the top priority, a sentiment I'm confident they provide to every single bride who chooses their venue for their wedding. My guests thought the estate was simply breathtaking and they especially loved the greenhouse for cocktail hour. The vintage rentals they provide are also a great resources to truly capture the vintage feel of the estate.
Additionally, my other vendors (photographer, coordinator and lighting) told me that they found Steve and Lauren exceptional to work with. As a wedding vendor myself, I think that this is one of the highest compliments a venue can receive. I couldn't have imagined getting married anywhere else and my wedding day was perfect. Thank you for EVERYTHING, Steve and Lauren.

This venue was a dream come true!!!! The property is so gorgeous it looks like pages out of a fairytale book. You could not step a single step on that property that would give you a bad photo, or a bad vibe. The owner, his family, and staff were so helpful and so nice!!!! I couldn't have picked a better magical place to have our wedding than HSL!!!! I loved every minute of I!

Our ceremony at Shady Lane was beautiful, and the photos on their estate came out great. The owners made things very easy and were great to work with - very responsive to any emails or questions, willing to accommodate all of my vendors. Only complaint is that it was very hot and we could have used some fans going in the reception tent that day - not that it put a damper on any of the celebrations!

We received so many compliments on this wedding venue! The beautiful scenery provided a romantic feel for our wedding day and all of the guests were blown away by the staff nd landscape alike. Private cottages for both sides if the bridal party, as well as golf carts to shuttle guests! My family is still thanking me for that! Steve and Lauren are great and willing to go the extra mile for each couple. Truly a great venue!

Historic shady lane was such an amazing venue. When I found it, I knew it was the one. It was a newer venue when I originally booked it. The venue offers such a immense amount of opportunities. The bridal cottage was great to have all 12 girls get hair and makeup done the day of the wedding. The whole estate wowed all of my guests!

From the moment my fiance and I stepped onto the estate for the tour, we knew this was where we wanted to get married. Everything is so beautiful. There's an entire bridal cottage and men's den to get ready in. You can have your ceremony on the patio, in the rose garden, by the greenhouse, or anywhere else you'd like. The reception tent is huge, and the drapery inside is stunning. Steve, the owner, and Lauren, the coordinator are great to work with. This was definitely my dream wedding and I couldn't have been happier with this venue!

Historic Shady Lane is the most breathtaking setting for a wedding. Every space on the property from the bridal cottage to the tent is so well taken care of and just beautiful. I received many many compliments on our venue, especially the unique greenhouse. The staff is also very helpful and accommodating. We were planning our wedding from Atlanta GA and they made the whole process so easy, answering all of our questions quickly and providing more services than expected. When the weather turned colder as our date approached they made sure our guests would be comfortable providing all the heat necessary. I felt like every time we visited we discovered something else that made the venue so special! The use of the bridal cottage and den was a huge bonus and made the whole day the perfect experience. Can't say thank you enough to them and I would highly recommend this venue for the perfect wedding!

Historic Shady Lane was PERFECT!! I knew it was going to be our venue before we even visited - but immediately upon entering the grounds, our decision was solidified. The grounds are impeccable and large enough to host an entire wedding day. The venue also matched our theme spot on for the wedding, so it really was a no brainer!
The Venue was in the process of transitioning two new people in which caused some hiccups for us in the final week leading up to our wedding (which is the reason I couldn't give a 5/5). We worked entirely with Lauren Stine who was AMAZING in assisting us with all of our questions and planning (who has since transitioned out)! Highly recommend the venue and I'm sure the Bradania and Caitlin will be able to assist their clients just as well!

Shady Lane is a gorgeous property, with so many great spots for photos! Working with Steve was great, he was flexible with our schedule to allow us time to decorate and rehearse, as well as multiple tours we requested. Anyone who is looking for an outdoor, vintage feel venue, Shady Lane is an excellent choice.

Historic Shady Lane was the first venue we toured and we booked immediately after! The greenhouse instantly caught our attention and we ended up having our ceremony inside. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and very flexible. This venue has so many places to hold your ceremony, it makes your wedding more memorable and special!

Staff was amazing but the owner was challenging
I originally chose HSL because the grounds are incredible, the staff seemed so accommodating and friendly, and they offered a ton of rustic furniture which I thought was amazing!
The day of our wedding was flawless. Bradania, our venue contact, could not have been better. Everyone there went above and beyond to make our wedding day special!
With any luck, this next part will be irrelevant soon, but leading up to our wedding day, we asked to move the date from a Saturday in May to a Friday in August because we weren’t sure where things would be with the pandemic and we both had immunocompromised parents. Every other vendor we had booked was willing to move the date, but the owner of HSL would not budge. After a few emails back and forth, his tone shifted to unprofessional and borderline hostile, claiming that every couple who got married in the fall of 2020 was so happy they had an in person gathering, “and even immunocompromised people were happy to get out and have a good time.” There was no regard or understanding for wanting to keep our family safe, and be responsible. And since we had already paid our contract in full, we were stuck moving forward with the date. Luckily the vaccine schedule sped up and it ended up being alright, but that was my only (although significant) issue with HSL.

Fell in love with this venue immediately and were thrilled to have our ceremony reception and venue here. The owner, Steve Kohr, and his assistant, Lauren Stine, were great to work with. However, we booked our wedding on a Sunday and no mention was made of time limits. After we paid in full, we received multiple emails about a deadline to shut of the music at 930pm! Our music was very soft after that time and we still felt like we were being forced off the property. Very disappointed that this wasn't clarified ahead of time, because we would have chosen another venue. Otherwise, it is an amazing place with lots of character. All of our guests loved it!

Lessor’s sole discretion (10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays/9 p.m. on Sundays" -- We did our best to accommodate you and your guests needs and to be as flexible as possible by letting the DJ play until 10:30 p.m. instead of the contracted 9 p.m. We hope you and your guests still were able to enjoy the day at Historic Shady Lane!

Owner put profit and politics over guests health
The only redeeming quality of this venue was the beautiful and picturesque grounds, architecture, and greenhouse.
Where it is lacking is professionalism and management. When we picked this venue for our day, the staff couldn’t be more welcoming and hospitable. We were given a tour of the grounds and a description of what all would be provided on our day. We were so excited that we booked our date and paid in full a year and a half in advance. Once COVID came, we were a little nervous leading up to our July date. Come May, we realized that things were not going to be better by our July date. We organized a call, expressing our concerns of the virus, the health and well-being of our guests, and the inability of our out-of-state/country guests to attend (Including 2 bridesmaids, 1 of which being the bride's sister.). We had booked this venue for 250 people, and at that point, only the county that the venue is in was allowing gatherings of up to 250 people. We were told that we would have to pay another full deposit if we would like our date moved unless it was on a Wednesday or Thursday the following year. The owner chose greed and politics over the health of our guests. He said that "You will be happy that you had it now instead of postponing,", and that "People will be excited to get out and have a good time". The venue assistant started crying on the phone, saying that we don’t know how hard it is for them right now, and that the owner could lose his house because it was on the venue property, even though the property brochure indicated that property was purchased many year prior to it being converted into a venue. They compared a venue date to an airplane taking flight with empty seats. We understood the missed revenue opportunities, but it was a poor analogy because flights were grounded at the time and the airline companies assumed the risk, not the passengers. The venue owner passed the risk off to us. My wife has one living parent and one living grandparent. She buried her grandmother the Wednesday before our wedding and her grandfather was walking her down the aisle. The fear of him potentially getting COVID from our wedding was a very real emotion for my wife.
60 of our guests were unable to attend due to COVID travel restrictions. The owner of the venue even made a point to come talk to us, on our wedding day, stating “It looks like you were able to get a good turnout” without congratulating us on our wedding day. It felt more like rubbing salt into a wound. He was not someone we wanted to see or speak with on our wedding day.
When speaking with other COVID brides and grooms, none of which had any problem rescheduling their dates to a later time with their venues.
When looking back on our wedding day and viewing our pictures, we do not have the joy and beautiful memories we should have, but only sadness, anxiety, and discomfort.
I highly recommend looking elsewhere for your wedding venue.
