Perfection 🥰

Oh my gosh. I cannot explain how absolutely amazing Heather is to work with! I won an engagement session with her from a bridal expo and that’s where our story began. She is polite, kind, caring, and just an amazing woman! She made my now husband and I so comfortable as we were doing our shoot and positioned us and guided us the entire time. We have found our lifelong photographer- for sure. Her work speaks for itself- Woah baby!!

Heather is awesome!

Heather has been great to work with from start to finish. She was able to work through some interesting factors that influenced us during our engagement photos (a Nor'easter) and then our wedding (Covid) and she was great through it all, making it all work with a smile! The photos she took were great, she captures not only the portraits, but real life moments that are candid and perfect to remember. You can tell she loves capturing these moments for her clients, and she was able to make the whole wedding party at ease during the wedding day, which can be hard given the emotional rollercoaster everyone is going through. She also offers Save the date cards which we took advantage of, some great thank you cards, which we are also taking advantage of, and some beautiful album choices which can make it hard to decide how you want your pictures presented. We would highly recommend Heather, you won't regret it, and any time you meet with her she will put a smile on your face.

Highly recommend!

Heather is amazing - we feel so lucky we had the chance to work with her! The full collection of photos she took are gorgeous and will be an amazing memory of our wedding day. But more than that, throughout the planning process she was well organized and kept us on track up until the end of the reception, she has a great attitude and brought calm to a busy time, and her effective communication throughout made planning a breeze. Emily and David Wedding - Williamsburg

Heather,
I can’t tell you how happy we are with all of your efforts on our behalf. Your photos are just incredibly beautiful but you did so much more. You thought of things we didn’t know we should think of (bobby pins) and captured images of everything. I loved seeing the photo of the sign at the market, Emily and Sofi (the dog), their rings on the pillow I made. You just didn’t miss anything and did it all with such artistry. We are all so impressed.
I will never forget leaving to wash my hands before cutting the cake (assuming nobody else would serve it) and coming back to discover that you'd sent it off with the staff to have them cut it for us. For that and a million other things large and small we can’t thank you enough.

When we started making plans last September I told Emily that the photos were in my estimation the most important thing. I believe I expressed those sentiments to you the first time we talked. Everything else about her wedding day will grow hazy over time but the images captured will always bring those memories to life.

Stress free wedding photography

Heather is amazing. She helped make our wedding day run seamlessly even with a torrential downpour and transportation mishaps. It was very important to me to be able to enjoy every minute of the day with family and friends rather than focus solely on taking pictures. She captured incredible shots without taking away from the evening. She gave us a huge portfolio of pictures that we will treasure for years to come. She worked with us to ensure we got all of the specific shots we wanted. Despite all the chaos she never became flustered or stressed which helped ease my stress as well. I would hire her again and recommend her to anyone considering her for their wedding!!

This woman is amazing!

Omg, Heather went above and beyond. There were times that she was helping me get this wedding done on time! She arranged for an Edible Arrangement when she found out when I was coming back to the US and she ALWAYS makes a special emergency bridal bag. That bag was the lifeline for the wedding. The photos turned out amazing and she and her Korean speaking partner, as well as their assistant, were there to capture all the important moments and more! I cannot stress enough how helpful Heather was to me; she was like a right-hand woman when my bridesmaids failed me at times!
But let's talk photos. The photos are amazing. Heather's photos are charming enough to appeal to everyone; just the right amount of humor, traditional portraits and candid moments that perfectly capture the slightly controlled chaos that was my wedding. Sister-in-law's husband jumping down into a split? Captured in action with no blur. Bouquet toss? Same action shot. Sunset picture? Perfectly color-balanced for a dramatic and romantic shot. Seriously, she's got the talent to make your wedding look like an art exhibit capturing all the various ranges of human emotion.
I can't recommend her enough! Hire her already!

Heather is amazing! My husband and I had planned a rather late notice and very simple summer ceremony, and did not know what to do about a photographer. Neither of us were very into the wedding planning so did not know much about the process at all, but heard of Heather through the grapevine. We knew as soon as we sat down to chat with her that she was perfect for us! She was so flexible and willing to work with what we wanted, which was just shots before, during, and after the ceremony. We got married at the St. Bede Shrine on Richmond Road and were a little wary and confused regarding the rules for photography there, but Heather was on the ball. She was so professional and prepared that our worries vanished instantly. She was also always super quick to respond to any thought or question we had, and was wonderful with helping us outline what photos we would want. The day of our wedding, she arrived before we did, totally prepared, and everyone absolutely loved her. She was kind, patient, and knew exactly what she was doing. Heather made the picture taking a joy for everyone. And WOW, did she deliver. The photos we got back went above and beyond any expectations we had. Heather turned our very simple and laid back ceremony into such an exciting event, and captured so many moments that we hadn’t even thought to ask for. For a fun and stress-free photography experience, go with Heather! We will doubtlessly work with her again, and send all our friends her way!

My husband and I absolutely loved working with Heather! We used Heather for both our engagement photos and wedding photos. Every single photo that she gave us was beautiful and we were so impressed with her work! We planned our wedding from out of town and Heather was easy to communicate with and was always quick to respond. Heather was super personable and we had so much fun taking both our engagement and wedding photos. Heather was nothing short of excellent in every way. She was friendly and helpful, but unobtrusive. I didn't feel like I was being hounded for photos at the ceremony or reception, yet she captured so many incredible photos of so many special moments. Heather is awesome - flexible, accommodating and TALENTED. She was patient with us, and her pre-wedding timeline review really helped us organize our day and ensure we got all the shots we wanted. Heather is an incredible photographer, and caught so many beautiful candids, as well as every little detail, of our wedding. Her package is truly a value -- the quality of the photos, the photo book, USB with all our photos, as well as many other details, are just some of the things that have earned her the Couples Choice Award multiple years in a row.
Our advice to couples still searching, or even having booked a photographer already, is just to know exactly the kind of photos you like of yourselves, and make sure you and your photographer are on the same page. We found it helpful to put together a few photos we liked of ourselves and explain why, so that Heather understood exactly what we were looking for in our pictures. Also, if you want specific poses, be sure to review that info with your photographer in advance, or ask what poses they suggest -- this will again ensure that your expectations match your photographers and vice versa.
You cannot go wrong with Heather -- she is a true professional, incredibly talented, and was an integral part of our wedding day. She captured more moments and details than we even imagined, so we will always have beautiful memories from our wedding day.

Heather was absolutely amazing to work with and is definitely worth the price! She was extremely flexible on the day of the wedding and made sure we had all the posed pictures we wanted with our families. We also took pictures on the beach when it was pretty cold and windy, but Heather and her fellow photographer were able to work around the challenges. During the reception she made sure to take pics of everyone at the tables and during the dancing. We haven't seen her pictures yet but I'm sure they will be amazing.

My daughter, Michelle, and son-in-law, Christian, met with several different photographers. Then, they met with Heather and felt very comfortable with her. I was first drawn to her website not only by the beautiful pictures and her photojournalistic style, but by also reading her "about me" section and getting a sense of who she is as a person and professional. She was VERY responsive. When I asked for references, she sent me email addresses for previous clients. Another photographer just told me to read wedding wire because his clients are busy people! I tossed him out right away! The references she sent took the time to answer my questions. We were SO happy with our choice to use Heather. She captured all the pictures Michelle and Christian had requested and many others as well. It was such a beautiful day and we have beautiful pictures to look at over and over again. I would highly recommend Heather to others!

Heather is an incredible and professional photographer. My husband and I had Heather photograph our engagement session and wedding in Williamsburg. Heather instantly put everyone at ease. My husband and I had a blast with her while taking photos during our engagement shoot. We normally are not that comfortable with taking photos! And at the wedding, she had a professional presence. She directed us and our families to where we needed to be for certain photographs, and stayed behind the scenes during all the festivities.

Heather is flexible. To account for our schedules, we had phone calls late at night to discuss our must have photos and how the day would go. She also helps with last minute planning, which was such a relief. My husband and I wanted to take photos at the Williamsburg Inn. Heather called the Inn the week before the wedding to coordinate with them on where and when we would take the photos.

We received our photos (over 650 wedding photos) within a month of being married! And we loved so many of them. We highly recommend Heather.

I can't even begin to describe how lucky we were to have found Heather. My husband, Luke, and I got married June of 2015. Heather was our photographer and made our experience so delightful. Since the first time I met with her she took my stress away, was impressively organized, and had such a calm and peaceful demeanor.

We talked for months about my vision, shots that were important to me, and what I wanted to get out of our photographs, until finally it was our big day. Heather showed up and was so happy, smiling constantly and putting all of us at ease. Throughout the whole day she blended in. None of us felt like we were being bombarded with pictures. I was so surprised when I got the link to our photographs and saw 800 fantastic shots. I loved EVERY single one of them. I had no idea she was there capturing the intimate and funny moments. Those pictures will stay with us for life, each representing a particular story from our very special day.

Anyone looking for a photographer for any occasion- you cannot go wrong with Heather Hughes Photography. I am an artist myself, very picky, and did months of research before committing. I was more impressed than I ever could have imagined. Even since our wedding has been over, Heather has still communicated on my vision for our photo book and even sent me a complimentary print on a sheet of metal. How cool is that? Heather was absolutely amazing!!!!! I hate getting my picture taken so looking for a photographer was the last thing I really wanted to do, but after meeting with Heather my nerves were gone. She was very sweet and genuine and an awesome person to work with! Before the ceremony, Heather helped us keep to our timeline and acted more like my wedding coordinator! After the mandatory posed pictures at the wedding, I didn't see her again (in a good way!). Heather was always right in the moment, but never in our spotlight! She never asked us to reenact an event or hold poses awkwardly. She captured the moment exactly as it happened and now our pictures tell an incredible story of our wedding day :) I am so happy Heather was our photographer and I can't wait to work with her again for our family pictures!

Heather did an amazing job with our wedding photography. We had a full package with over 1000 pictures which we received within a month of the wedding. Heather captured the story of our wedding. We had a hard time selecting 70 pictures for our album because all of them were so good. We would highly recommend Heather if you are looking for a good and friendly photographer for your event.

I cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed working with Heather! She was very flexible with pre-wedding meetings (even though she's on the Peninsula, she was always willing to come meet us on the Southside to discuss details, and she is excellent with responding to emails!). We loved how personable and fun she is and how she really focused on getting the candid shots of people just enjoying the wedding, rather than only portraits (although there are plenty of those, too). When its all done, the pictures are available online and on a zip drive, and there are just a ton of options as far as next steps (prints, albums, etc.). I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a photographer.

For me, one of the most important vendors was photography. I love creative pictures, cool effects and a whole lot of them. My groom is not a fan of posing for pictures and prefers natural pix. Heather was such a great find. I saw a picture she did where it was black and white and the bouquet was in color. She was one of the few photographers who would do photos like that for me. She let me go crazy on Pinterest and actually studied my board before hand and had every picture important to me captured on the wedding day! I even forgot some but she had a list. And she really didn't get in the way and wasn't pushy or anything. She blended in the crowd and took natural shots. She is very patient and willing to work with you to capture your wedding. I recommend getting engagement pix with any photographer to make sure you can work well with them. One potential issue could be that she works alone mostly. She had an assistant that day for us who was an intern and did great. If you are concerned about one photographer, she somehow got it all captured and was super organized. Also my other vendors were happy to work with her which is a good sign. I've been so happy with what pictures I've seen so far and she gets a few released to you before your honeymoon if possible so you can see a few good moments. I have nothing negative to say. And I'm really picky about pictures. She was just a pleasure to work with and my groom liked her too ( which means something because he hates pictures). Thanks Heather!!!

Heather is such a great photographer! She must have magical powers, because we felt like she was everywhere at the wedding but then she was never obtrusive about it! She was also especially patient with the oblivious groomsmen before the ceremony and afterwards when we were trying to take pictures and they were reaching for more beers! We are so grateful that there was a photographer who meshed with our style and personality so well. We never felt like she was forcing picture moments on us. We haven't received our wedding pictures yet, but if they're anything like our engagement photos, I know they'll be excellent!

Heather did an AMAZING job! Upon first meeting her I felt that she would do an excellent job of capturing the mood of our wedding, and she definitely did. There was some chaos at our wedding as it began raining 30 minutes before our beach ceremony was to start and we had to do the ceremony and group photos elsewhere. She did a great job of adapting to the situation and got some awesome pictures!
Another thing we really liked about working with Heather is that she made us feel very comfortable. She's very professional but warm and friendly as well. We definitely recommend her!

Unbelievable customer service and quality of work. We live in Vermont and had to plan our wedding by looking at on-line vendors in the greater Williamsburg area and making phone calls. Heather's website got us excited about her work. When we spoke with her on the phone we were sold by her friendly, helpful attitude. The quality and originallity of her photos is obvious. We spent a lot of time checking out all our vendors and Heather came out on top. She did a nice mixture of candid and portrait shots, and gave us hundreds to choose from. She arrived at our venue in plenty of time to talk with us and discuss any details before the start of the ceremony. Our rating of Heather is a five out of five.

Heather was absolutely amazing for our wedding! She met with us several times before the big day and was very accommodating with any requests we had. Heather was so prepared for every meeting and we loved looking through the photos she had previously done (especially as some of them were at our venue). She did a great job capturing the "moments" of our special day which was exactly what we were looking for! In addition, after our wedding, we became a bit unresponsive at times when she was trying to design our album as we got back into our day to day life, but she never was upset with us! She was gracious and so supportive of our busy lifestyle. She also did a great job designing our album and I look through it every day.

Heather was the best of both worlds the day of. She is fun to be around and a wonderful person so its easy to spend the whole day with her, but she also blended into the background to capture all the right moments without being intrusive. I would recommend her any day to anyone! We were very lucky to be able to have her capture our special day!

Let me just say that I honestly can not stand getting my picture taken...I simply do not like it. To say I was a challenging subject is putting it mildly.

Aside from the pictures that every couple has to "endure", I hardly noticed them. Excellent job on their behalf, because the photos obviously prove they were everywhere! They are very easy to work with, always on time and had excellent communication with us. We were looking someone that was laid back yet professional; Heather and Rob have both in spades. Do yourself a favor and explore what they have to offer--you won't be disappointed with the results.

Heather was awesome! I knew from the moment that I met with her that I wasn't going to have to worry about a thing! I got so many compliments from my guests about how attentive she was. Heather was just what we were looking for. We liked her style of photography, the prices she offered, her professionalism and flexibility, and the services she had.

We are from the Hampton Roads area but currently live in the Washington D.C. area. We wanted our wedding to take place in Virginia Beach, so it was a lot of traveling back and forth. After a few e-mail exchanges, we finally were able to meet up with Heather one weekend. Heather's business is run out of the Newport News area, but we had many appointments to attend to in Virginia Beach. Heather was very flexible with setting up a meeting that she offered to meet us on our way back to D.C. at a Panera. Heather had albums to show us and we were able to talk about what we wanted. We found that her prices were reasonable for our budget and liked the packages she had available.

We liked her so much that we decided to work with Heather. Heather was very responsive to our e-mails not matter how many questions we had. She was very professional and spoke to us like we were old friends.

In the package that we purchased, we opted to have some engagement photos taken. Heather offered to come up to the Washington D.C. area to have a photo shoot around the city! This worked out really well for us as we wanted to capture how the beginning of our engagement came to be. We felt silly during the photo shoot, but Heather was able to offer us words of encouragement and suggestions for poses. Heather was also open to hear our suggestions.

During the ceremony and reception back in Virginia Beach, Heather was on time and prepared. Both parties had an early morning and Heather and Rob were troopers! Heather took photos with the bride's family while Rob worked with the groom. Again, her professionalism was outstanding. At the reception, Heather took photos on the beach with the wedding party while Rob took photos inside.

When creating the album, the process was simple. We chose the pictures that we wanted and told Heather about any words we wanted in or on the album. Heather took our choices and then sent us drafts of the layout that we were able to make changes to or approve. If we had any questions, Heather was right there to walk us through the steps and offer any advise along the way. Heather also let us know where she was in the process of making our album and the DVDs with all the pictures. They arrived well packaged and we were able to enjoy the items immediately.

All in all, we truly enjoyed working with Heather and would recommend her to anyone!

I wish I could scream to the world how happy I am that we had Heather do our photos!!! We LOVE our photos. When you look at the pictures you feel as though you are experiencing the wedding even if you did not attend it. The candid shots are awesome and the still shots are wonderful. She was always on top of things and responded to our questions timely before the wedding and had all of the photos posted online within 2 weeks afterwards. Our proof book arrrived just days later. I can't even begin to express how I feel about Heather and her photography services. As a bride, it was so important to me to have my wedding day not only captured accurately , but also artistically. Heather exceeded my expectations in both regards. I was torn between two photographers, and my husband said to me "I want Heather, hands down". I'm so glad he did. In our meetings prior to the wedding day, she listened to what my husband and I said that we wanted from our photographs, and when we saw the finished product we were not only impressed with her work, but overjoyed that she captured all of the moments that we had told her we hoped she could get on film. There were many people that we weren't able to invite to our wedding, but as soon as they saw Heather's pictures, they told me that they could feel the mood of the event. My husband, our families, and myself ran a gamut of emotions on our wedding day, and every single one of them can be seen and felt in the fantastic photos that Heather took. Everytime I look at my album and at all of the photos that I have hung up in our home (which, by the way...has become a little excessive!) I feel so satisfied. Not only did I marry a wonderful man, but I certainly picked the best possible woman to record the most wonderful day of my life onto film. Heather did an amazing job blending into the event. There is nothing worse than the feeling that your being followed around by a camera! She really went the extra mile to get every shot, including taking photos while driving behind the trolley that held the entire wedding party! She's like superwoman :-) She's professional, courteous, funny, and she's worth every penny. In my opinion, chosing another photographer over Heather would be a regretful choice.

When the day is over, all you have left is your pictures-they will become your most vivid memories, and Heather made sure that we will have those memories for a lifetime. She was extremely professional, and incredibly responsive. There was no stress involved in working with her and she always made sure that we were happy with what was occuring. Everyone has loved our pictures and I couldn't be happier with the result. She captured all the right moments and was very accomodating. I felt comfortable having her around and I appreciate her hard work.

From the moment I met Heather I knew she would be perfect for our wedding. Her calm demeanor kept everyone at ease throughout our event. All of our pictures reveal her immense talent and ability to make everyone look fantastic. She even captured my father-in-law with several smiles (which isnt an easy feat)! Her photographs showcase a natural and artistic beauty that make it hard to decide on what pictures to order!

I could not have been happier with our selection and HIGHLY recommend Heather to anyone who wants beautiful memories from their wedding. Out of all my vendors, Heather was my favorite!

I would recommend Heather Hughes to any couple getting married. She is absolutely the most professional, friendly photographer out there. We both really loved her style and approach, she was genuinely interested in capturing the moments that were special to us. She is very easy to get along with and is interested in helping make your day the best it can be. If you are looking for a photographer who can capture amazing wedding/reception moments without making it obvious, Heather is the photographer for you.

Heather's style is photo-journalistic. Our pictures are amazing. She captured all the moments we wanted and we hardly knew she was there. She is very un-obtrusive while she works which was exactly what we hoped for. I couldn't be happier with how our pictures turned out, and so much was included!! She was even gracious enough to send me a free replacement disc of all my photos after our new puppy ATE the original!

My husband and I met with many photographers before finding Heather. Everyone else seemed either unprofessional or pushy like they wanted to run the show. Heather was extremely professional, and during the wedding and reception, I hardly even knew she was there. I was amazed to see the pictures she caught at those unexpected moments.

I've had two babies during the past two years. My husband and I have come together in reverse order, kids first and marriage later. So for our wedding, I put together touches that feel special to us, within what we can manage with such small kids, and in a short time. I was having trouble reconciling this with classic and staged images of the perfect wedding. We really aren't perfect, and we are very tired. Our kids are beautiful and messy and incredibly small. But we are passionate and so happy to be together.

When I saw Heather's pictures, it was the first time that I saw the sorts of things that are valuable and beautiful about us captured by a wedding photographer. Her lens can see real things. I had been counting on it. Knowing Heather was our photographer changed the planning for me. I stopped feeling as though I was doomed to be less than perfect, and could just enjoy myself. Heather's photography was therefore really important to our day, in a way that might not usually be the case. She was able to capture the imperfect beauty in my family.

When it comes to choosing the most important components of your wedding planning, you should put particular emphasis on the selection of your photographer. Do yourself a huge favor and get on the phone with Heather Hughes of Heather Hughes Photography to make an appointment. We were lucky enough to have Ms. Hughes photograph our daughter's wedding on June 2, 2012. Of all the wonderful vendors we had that day, Heather was one of the best. She was on time and friendly but professional. Even though we were running late, she got right to work helping us with last minute items and offering helpful advice to a grateful Mother of the Bride. The entire afternoon and evening, Heather was always, amazingly, in the right place at the right time. In addition, she created for my daughter and her new husband, wonderful images, many of which were so creative in their concept. These were ideas that we never would have thought of ourselves and which have become some of the hallmark photographs that captured that amazing day. We will never be able to thank Heather enough for her talented work, solid work ethic and warm friendship that day. If you don't book her immediately for your wedding, you will be missing the best opportunity to ensure that your wedding is captured through the eyes of this amazing photographer!

Heather Hughes photography provided us with beautiful professional photos. She captured every detail of our special day. She captured the emotion as well.....we had several comical photos due to our wedding being the same weekend as a hurricane. She was flexible and responsive to our requests. My only critique is I wish she provided slightly more guidence for different poses, but we were battling impeding rain and crazy wind ....so maybe that was just my experience. We are very happy with the photos we did get. I would highly recommend heather Hughes photography for anyones big day, especially if you enjoy more artistic photographs like we do. :)

Heather takes the time to record what you want to have covered at your wedding and goes an extra step.
I ended up with lovely photos of my small 2nd wedding. I also honestly now have the best photo of my 3 sons together!
She can capture a moment you might not have envisioned.
