Unique wedding venue near DC
We had an amazing wedding day at Glen Echo Park! Guests and vendors alike raved about the experience, and we couldn't be happier with the service provided by the GEP team (especially Mikea, who worked with us from day one to set up and execute a perfect day, and LaShea, who was there on our wedding day assisting with everything we needed and keeping spirits high!)
The scenery at Glen Echo is amazing - you hardly need to decorate to have a fabulous and beautiful day. We held our ceremony in the Cuddle Up pavilion, which was so fun and unique, and our reception in the Bumper Car Pavilion. The Bumper Car Pavilion had heaters in place, so even on a chilly March evening, it ended up being perfect and comfortable. Our photographer was spoiled for choice when it came to locations, and our guests enjoyed meandering the park taking photos as well. -

Perfect Art Deco neon national park party!
If you love interesting architecture, national parks, history, or design, and are looking for a semi-outdoor, semi-wooded wedding destination that is nevertheless easy for your guests to get to, Glen Echo is the spot. It's also great if you don't have a ton to shell out on a venue, because the National Park status makes it very affordable.
The experience had a few hiccups, but I think that's to be expected with any wedding. We booked the venue over a year in advance, and over that time period our coordinator quit, which meant we had to work to make the vision we'd executed with coordinator #1 make sense to coordinator #2. (Glen Echo only accepts approved caterers/vendors, but we really wanted to serve pizza / keep food costs low. Coordinator #1 said we could hire a pizza vendor and just have an approved caterer on site to oversee compliance with venue policies.)
Our new coordinator worked with us to make it happen and ultimately we got everything we were hoping for. In retrospect, though, you may not want to get married here unless you're ok with the approved caterers. It wasn't always easy to do things the way we did.
All that said, this venue is a photographer's dream, it was accessible, it was breezy. There are multiple locations on the property for your reception, ceremony, cocktail hour, whatever. We had our rehearsal dinner there the night before as a potluck-style picnic and that was really great, too (although heads up: We asked for approval of our rehearsal date many months in advance and were granted it, then in the months and weeks leading up to the date we were told the date may or may not be booked by someone else. Basically, it seemed like they can't hold that date for you, you only get it if no one else books. This was really nerve-wracking, so for peace of mind, you may want to just go somewhere else.)
My fiancée and I wanted privacy, and were nervous because it's a public park. We were so caught up in our wedding, though, that I could not tell you if a single stranger walked by. I literally never thought of it once! I was so caught up in this idea, and then never considered it night-of. Just in case that's something you're nervous about!
We were also nervous the sound wouldn't be loud enough to really get a dance party going, because we were told the rule was you have to be able to stand in the parking lot and not hear the music. We never tested that, but our music was LOUD and people got down. So don't worry about that :) They also let us store a harp and lots of decorations there overnight on Friday, decorate all morning Saturday, and use some of their fun stage lights to make one area of the Bumper Car Pavilion PINK! The overhead twinkle lights were too dim for our photographer, so we had to turn the pan lights on, and these didn't provide the best ambience (not terrible, just not ideal). I'd recommend testing your lighting out ahead of time and talking to your photographer about it, if it's something you care about.
Ok, that's it! Recommend it highly, it was very unique and SO convenient, yet felt secluded and woodsy. Ample parking, too! Leave plenty of time for pictures, we had an hour and it wasn't enough to capture all the cool parts of the park.-

Our dream venue and our dream wedding!
We always loved Glen Echo's bumper car pavilion as a potential venue and were psyched there was an opening we can snag after we got engaged. Laura was awesome to work with--super helpful, responsive, and easy going. She guided us through the prep and drop off the days leading up to the wedding, and made sure everything went so smoothly on the day of. We have gotten so many compliments on the fun, quirky, beautiful venue, and it was truly the dream wedding we'd hoped for!-

We had a wonderful ceremony at the Cuddle Up in Glen Echo park. What a cool place!! Just being in the park alone is like going back through time complete with a booming carousel. Leah Franklin from Glen Echo was great, i couldn't recommend her or this place more. We had less than 60 people and we still had a lot of room, it could probably fit more people. Thanks Glen Echo and Leah Franklin for a great day :) -

My husband and I met swing dancing in the Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park in 1998. It was the only choice for us when it came to selecting a wedding venue, and it could not have been more magical or perfect. We paid extra to keep the carousel open for hour in the evening and it was a bigger hit than we could have ever anticipated. Charming venue, lots of parking, easy as pie to get to, friendly and accommodating staff. -

We loved getting married at Glen Echo Park. Jackson and his team did a great job of responded to our every question and working with us through all the detailed planning. Our ceremony was in the Cuddle Up Pavilion- a last minute change due to the weather. And the reception was in the gorgeous Bumper Car Pavilion. Our event was a dream come true, thanks to all the great staff at Glen Echo. And of course, the best part, was riding the carousel. -

I know this sounds cheesy, but I can only describe Glen Echo as magical. I rented the Cuddle Up Pavilion for my ceremony and the Bumper Car Pavilion for my reception. They were perfect for our nontraditional, DIY wedding. Jackson was very helpful and responsive. I couldn't have ask for more. -

This was a great place for a reception! The arrangements were perfect, and Emily Mah Rodgers was the consummate professional. We rented the Bumper Car Pavilion and in keeping with the atmosphere, decorated the tables with lollipops and cotton candy. The guests loved the fun setting and raved about getting to ride the carousel. I don't think we could have done better. -

Glen Echo Park was the perfect place for my daughter's wedding. The cost is very reasonable compared to other venues and the park is lovely. Emily Mah, who is in charge of rentals, was so helpful and found us an available date when it appeared that they were fully booked. The Bumper Car Pavilion where the ceremony and reception were held is so festive and attractive with fairy lights strung in the rafters that very little decoration is needed. We added only flowers. We had the carousel running during part of the reception and everyone had fun riding it. The park has a good selection of cateres to choose from and the one they recommended, Matters of Taste, was excellent. -

I have loved Glen Echo Park since my now husband took me to my first swing dance there. We looked at other sites for our wedding, but we knew that this was the only place that we really wanted to be.
From our first meeting through the end of the reception the entire staff was wonderful to work with. Emily, the rentals manager, was so prompt in her responses and just warm and helpful. She would pose questions that I hadn't even thought of yet and didn't mind my emails that were all over the place with small details!
The venue is unique, and by choosing it you are supporting a really great resource for the community. We had our ceremony and reception in the Bumper Car Pavilion and all of our guests were delighted with the setting, the access to a working carousel and the playground for the youngest guests. The only downside for us was that the bathrooms are not attached to the venue.
If you are in the DC area you should definitely consider this for your ceremony and reception! -

I rented the bumper car pavilion for my wedding in September 2012. I loved how unique the space was and it was geared towards my more offbeat bride tendencies. Everyone that I worked with at the park were extremely professional and they were able to answer whatever weird questions I had. I also rented one of their classrooms to get ready in before the wedding and rented their carousel for guests to ride during cocktail hour. Overall it's an amazing space and I couldn't have asked for more. The only downside was that you had to use one of their approved caterers but that turned out to be a non-issue. -

We were looking for something unique and conveniently-located for a fun summer wedding in the DC area. Glen Echo was recommended to us as an historic former amusement park, and we had the reception inside the "Bumper Car Pavilion". It was the first bumper car pavilion in the United States from what we were told! Pricing was reasonable, free parking was plentiful and the venue was very easy to work with. Not to mention, the wooden bumper car floor was perfect for dancing!!! Thanks, Glen Echo! -

Glen Echo is a fun and unique venue. I went there as a child to watch plays and ride the carousel. As I got older, I always imagined my wedding there. We used the bumper car pavilion and were able to use minimal decorations to bring in our wedding colors and make the venue unique to the vision for our wedding. Our guests really enjoyed the atmosphere and especially enjoyed riding the carousel. Emily Rogers is easy to work with and the price is great ($2500 for whole day, we started decorating at 9am and the wedding was from 4 – 9:30ish). We were also able to get really great wedding photos due to the amazing venue. -

We absolutely loved having our wedding at Glen Echo. We wrote up the fascinating history of the park on the backs of our programs, and it even included my grandparents getting engaged there! So many of our guests described it as magical. We rented the Cuddle Up pavilion for the ceremony, the Bumper Car Pavilion for the reception, and rented the 1921 carousel during the cocktail hour. Our guests had so much fun! It looks so beautiful lit up at night, and it made for some really amazing photos.
Jackson was very accommodating, and let us store stuff at the venue the day before the event. There are some rules to contend with, mostly because it's a historic national park. You can only do beer & wine (no liquor), no real candles, and you have to be careful with the historic structures. Overall though, I can't imagine our wedding anywhere else. Truly magical! -

One of the relatively more affordable venues in the DC area, Glen Echo was a fun place to have my wedding! I have a connection to the park, which is why I wanted to get married there, but on its own it's a beautiful place with a variety of options. I used the Cuddle Up pavilion for the ceremony, and the Bumper Car Pavilion for the reception, and we had 160 people at our wedding.
While it can pose a challenge that everything has to be brought in, the folks at Glen Echo are helpful with coordination with vendors, answering questions, and even allowing you to keep some of your wedding stuff in storage so you don't have to lug it there on the day of your wedding. I do recommend a day-of-coordinator, since this venue has a lot of moving parts that a hotel, for example, doesn't have, but they have a carousel! Great spot. -

Glen Echo was the perfect find for our wedding. We wanted a venue that would allow us to have a fun and non-traditional wedding and Glen Echo gave us just that. We totally played up the vintage carnival theme and used that for inspiration in our decorations, food, cake topper, etc. We rented the carousel during cocktail hour which our guests loved and it made for great pictures of us and the bridal party.
The staff at Glen Echo were extremely helpful throughout our planning process. Emily and Dwight were prompt and helpful in answering questions and problem solving to make our day go smoothly.
The only slight downside to Glen Echo is that there are rules and guidelines that you must follow because it is a National Park. However, this was all stuff we could work around (i.e. no liquor allowed so we just served beer and wine) and it really was not a big deal. -

Glen Echo was an awesome place for our reception. It was so fun to ride the carousel with our guests, great locations for photos all around the park (give yourself an hour! we regret only having a half hour), and the Bumper Car pavilion created great atmosphere with the christmas lights. Emily was easy to work with, even with a change in contract after a few months. Storing alcohol the day before was easy. Staff the day of were helpful keeping out some teens who tried to crash the party (it is a public park, and other events happen at the same time). It was one of the least expensive rentals I found. The one downside was the restrictive choices of caterers, most of which were some of the most expensive in the DC area. However, it did make the search less time-consuming and the least expensive catering option did a great job. -

We had an absolutely wonderful ceremony and reception at Glen Echo Park. Our guests are still raving about how unique and fun the venue was, perfect for us as a couple. We had our ceremony in the Cuddle Up Pavilion and moved to the Bumper Car Pavilion for our reception. We chose a carnival theme with games and candy which was so easy and perfect given the venue. Our table names were old rides that used to be at the park :) Our guests got carousel tickets which they enjoyed. We had a daytime wedding in the summer so if we were to do it over we may have rented more fans to keep our guests cooler, but everything was fine. People were having too much fun to notice the heat!
As others have said, there are restrictions (only beer & wine, no candles, no taping to walls) but they're totally reasonable given the awesome history of the park. Emily Mah Rogers was absolutely wonderful to work with. She was quick to respond to emails/calls and very helpful with details, small and large. I wouldn't hesitate to use this venue again, we had such a blast. -

We had our wedding reception here this summer, and it was wonderful! Such a unique and fun venue! The staff is wonderful, they provided a ton of support before and during the event. They have about 7 caterers to pick from and we were very happy with the list. As others have noted, there are some restrictions because of the park's status as a National Park and A Historic Landmark, but the staff communicates these restrictions clearly and they really won't get in your way. Everyone had a tremendously fun time enjoying the carousel and the beautiful ambiance of the park. Cannot say enough wonderful things about Glen Echo! -

We loved working with the Glen Echo Park Partnership! It was a beautiful place to have a reception and tons of fun for our guests and ourselves. Because it's a National Park there are some rules that might be a problem for some couples (no candles, only beer & wine, etc.) but we were able to work around anything and it was totally worth it! Working with Emily Mah was fantastic! She always responded quickly and was incredibly helpful and professional. -

A truly memorable location for a wedding. Emily, the rentals manager, has the patience of a saint and was supportive throughout the process. She was quick to respond to emails and helped with ideas about the space work best for us. As with any National Park facility, there are limitations on what you can do (no open flames, no nails/tape, no liquor), but all of those restrictions are worth it for a ride on the carousel in a wedding dress. Whimsical, romantic, artsy -- Glen Echo is a fabulous location for a wedding! -

Completely unique and magical venue
There is no place like Glen Echo Park! Our photos speak for themselves. It is just beyond charming as an off-the-beaten path venue. The bumper car pavilion was the perfect covered, semi-outdoor space for a fall wedding. Mikea was wonderful!-

We were looking for a unique and fun venue in the DC area, and Glen Echo Park exceeded all expectations. We had the ceremony in the Grassy Circle, the cocktail reception in the Cuddle Pavilion, and the dinner reception and dancing in the Bumper Car Pavilion. We also rented the Carousel for an hour during the cocktail reception, and it made for some of the best photos of the wedding. The rest of the park has many great photo ops (both daytime and night-time!) as well. The park team (and Leah especially) worked with us on all requests and accommodated what they could, however there are a lot of restrictions due to this being a national park and historic landmark. It was still amazing and our guests had a great time. Highly recommend, especially for weddings that include children! -

We just had our wedding in the grassy circle/bumper car pavilion on July 9th, and it was absolutely beautiful. Emily Mah Rogers, the event coordinator at Glen Echo, is a pleasure to work with - very responsive, flexible, and understanding of the last minute changes and questions that come up as you get closer to the day. We went through several iterations of our contract and Emily never even blinked.
Glen Echo has an ambiance all its own, and it's not for everyone, but it's a gorgeous blank slate to work with and our guests loved the park. We even had a few wedding crashers from the swing dance! There are some limitations which can be frustrating (no liquor, very limited catering list), but due to the historic nature of the park it's understandable that you'd need to make some compromises. I'd definitely recommend the place without any qualms! -

Our wedding reception at Glen Echo Park was absolutely PERFECT!! We had our reception in the Bumper Car pavilion and I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in a venue that is very unique!! The staff we worked with were all remarkable and very helpful. We couldn't have pulled it all off without them! The only drawback to GEP is that due to the fact that it is a historic landmark, there are a few strict rules and regulations that you must follow (ex. no flames or candles). BUT with a little planning and creativity, I promise you that the restrictions will not get in the way!! Our guests had a wonderful time and they will always remember our wedding because of the beautiful and unique park! How many people can say they got married in an old bumper car pavilion? Too cool!! -

Glen Echo was the perfect wedding reception venue for us. The hubby and I had our 2nd date at the restaurant next door, so when we found out we could have it at the Park (in the Bumper Car Pavilion), we signed on the dotted line. After a formal Catholic wedding, we wanted to reward our guests with a party, and Glen Echo provided the perfect setting. You can't help but smile when you walk into the Park.
There are some considerations that are unique to the park - you have to pick from an approved list of caterers, only beer/wine and no candles. But none of those caused us any heartburn. Actually, only beer/wine was really good for the budget. The only "stress" I had was about the worrying about the weather, but that's inevitable for any bride that's having the event outdoors. For the bumper car pavilion, there's plastic that can be rolled up on the sides in case the weather's not good (thankfully we didn't need to do that - the weather cooperated!). We were so pleased with Glen Echo (Emily from the Glen Echo Partnership was a pleasure to work with, too), we'd definitely recommend it to others. -

To be fair, Glen Echo can't be too flexible - as a National Park, there are certain non-negotiable restrictions on what sorts of materials can be used. They were very upfront and honest about these restrictions from the very beginning. -

Glen Echo is truly a unique and special place. I am so happy to have had my wedding reception in the Bumper Car Pavilion and I think my guests would agree!! I think the unique and laidback atmosphere really helped people have a good time and enjoy the party.
The reasons for the lower score on flexability have to do with the fact that Glen Echo is a historic landmark and a National Park. This means there are certain restrictions that need to be followed (no flames, for example) and that there are only 3 caterers from which you can choose. However, they were incredibly flexible in other ways: they allowed me access to the Carousel for pictures even though it had been closed for the season and let me store all the decorations and alcohol in the basement of the Spanish Ballroom the day before the wedding so it was all there for set-up the day of the wedding. Also, the staff was great and always responded to my e-mails and questions (of which there were many).
I would definitely recommend Glen Echo for a wedding reception location to others.

I had no problems working with Glen Echo. They were always very responsive and worked with me. The bumper car pavilion was a fantastic venue for my casual ceremony and reception! -

Glen Echo Park is a VERY magical, happy place. It's so joyful and warm and fun with the unique architecture, signage, history and of COURSE the carousel. When my husband and I looked into it after my Mom recommended it, we KNEW we had to get married there.
We had our wedding ceremony on the stage in the Cuddle Up Pavilion, and our wedding reception at the Bumper Car Pavilion. We also rented a small room inside the office for getting ready and later on, for babysitting. We also rented the carousel for an hour (during cocktail hour) which the guests LOVED.
The Pro's:
- It's SO unique. Memorable. Fun. Joyful. Magical.
- The carousel!
- Historical.
- Fairly affordable (for the DC area)
- Outdoors but also covered so you're ok if it rains.
- Can accommodate a lot of people!
- Absolutely beautiful for photos.
The Con's:
- There are SO many rules. Since it's a national park and they want to preserve it, they have a lot of hard rules. Like no hard liquor (BOO! Even though you can serve champagne/beer/wine), no candles (BOO!) and no using tacks or staples to hang decorations (so you have to get creative). They also have a strict pre-approved set of caterers so you are pretty limited there.
- Everything is spread fairly far apart, so if it rains even though your areas will be fine, it would also
- The carousel is open to the public until 6pm every day, so unless you want randos around and also LOUD carousel music, you pretty much have to have an evening wedding.
- Some walking is involved since the parking lot and restroom are kind of spread far away; so if you have elderly guests it could be a challenge.
It's also worth noting that our contact person changed like 3 different times. So everything was kind of confusing. We had a walk through with a girl who wasn't there 2 months later during the time of our wedding. And the new contact lady (who was actually the ORIGINAL one-long story-wasn't even at the event. It ended up being fine of course, but it was hard to get replies and calls back about certain issues. Our caterer was definitely getting frustrated.
Overall, it was beautiful and happy (and GREAT weather!), and everyone (especially the out of town guests) LOVED the venue. It was GORGEOUS and magical. Just know you have to make a lot creative compromises. All of them are worth it...but still...worth noting.

I absolutely loved Glen Echo Park. Wouldn't change a thing about the location, it's just fantastic. It's too bad no liquor is permitted - they seem to be very strict on that -- but it's a National Park so not much to be done there. Emily Mah Rogers was very nice to work with and responsive to emails. The price to book the park is a steal, but with the added catering costs it can be a pricier venue that you originally think. -

We knew we wanted to get married at Glen Echo eons before we were engaged, and it was the perfect venue for us despite some of the annoyances.
If you're getting married at Glen Echo, you know it's a National Park, not a full-service wedding venue. So don't expect any fancy literature about options, don't expect your contact to be JUST AS ENTHUSIASTIC as you are about, well, anything. But you can expect the answers will be predictable and fair.
It's a National Park, so it can only be so flexible. There are certain definite noes (like hard alcohol - it's beer and wine only). That being said, Jackson was very flexible where he could be. And to get around/cope with where the Park can't be flexible? Get a good caterer who's worked there before (we used Main Event and could not have been happier). When we got married, only nine caterers could operate at the Park, which makes choosing a caterer easier than a lot of venues.
We used the Cuddle Up for our ceremony and the Bumper Car pavilion for our reception. Our cocktail hour was in the area in between. -

Great Venue, Hire a Wedding Planner
We loved getting married at Glen Echo. It was the prefect venue for us. The outdoor pavilions provided felt us to feel good about having during covid and also provided protection from the rain,
The carrousel was a huge hit, our guest rode it 195 time during our wedding. Our wedding was so much fun in part because we had it at Glen Echo.
We had a ceremony is the cuddle up pavilion, the cocktail hour between the cuddle up and bumper car pavilion and the reception in the bumper car pavilion.
We did have fans, but we should have moved them closer to the dance floor. We knew it could get hot in June, but we weren't expecting it to be that hot.
The staff at Glen Echo was not really responsive- it took a lot of follow up to even get an appointment to look at the venue. Staff at Glen Echo also changed while we were planning our wedding. The day before the wedding we were able to drop off beer and wine and the day of staff were great.
if you are going to get married at Glen Echo, hire a wedding planner.-

Amazing spot; overwhelmed staff
I don’t want to bury the lede here: we had such a great time at our wedding (and from the feedback we’ve heard, so did our guests). We wouldn’t change the day, and because Glen Echo is such a magical place, we’d still recommend it.
Do you hear the however coming? The staff that runs events for the park is kind, but completely and utterly overwhelmed. It took multiple follow-ups and literally weeks to get responses to basic planning questions. As far as I can tell, there are not self-service resources available for anything, and some of the rules in the venue contract are confusing or contradictory so you’ll definitely have questions. If you choose this venue, schedule your walk-through as early as possible and come with a GIANT list of questions as this may be the only chance you get to get them answered.
On the day of the wedding, park staff was 30 minutes late to open the Hall of Mirrors, our getting ready space. We had our hair folks and wedding party members standing around waiting, and it made for a very stressful morning when there didn’t need to be any stress.
Because the staff was late, we were running behind for wedding party photos on the carousel. We’d paid extra for a photo permit and ended up only having a few minutes to get the group shots because they wouldn’t hold the opening - despite, again, the fact that that park staff was the reason we were behind.
As others have noted, the list of approved catering vendors is fairly short but we found it provided enough options to choose from.
Again, we loved the outcome and had an absolutely wonderful day. But getting there was tough. Know what to expect (and not expect) from the park, and decide if it’s worth it to you to take on the extra work to get to the day. -

I LOVED having my wedding at Glen Echo- it was the perfect setting and ended up being wonderful; that being said it was a bit of a bumpy road... I really disliked the extremely limited list of catering options ( I think there are like 5 and one is the Brown Bag... only 2 of them ever replied to my request for proposal) and the strict rules about decorating. I worked around all those things and created the wedding of my dreams despite those issues- however the park was not at all helpful when it came to renting the carousel and dealing with the tickets, still not quite sure why the guy at the ticket booth couldn't just give out the tickets when I said I would happily pay for any party crashes that wanted to ride it. It also took multiple emails to get responses( yes- I'm anal but aren't all brides)... but regardless I got past all of that and was so excited when I showed up to start setup on the morning of my wedding until I was hit with a double booking of the venue! It not only shot my nerves to hell but took loads of time having someone go scan my contract and send it over to prove that my contract was for the full day and no I was not willing to wait until 4:00pm to set up for my 6:00pm wedding- it was the most ridiculous compromise I have ever heard- granted after being yelled at, contracts sent over for proof, many tears they apologized and moved the other event. And just as my nerves were starting to calm we discovered that the ceremony venue had a wasp infestation! Thankfully my friends were faster than the park ranger and quickly got the situation under control. All that being said- if you are willing to do a whole lot of work the day of your wedding and really stay on top of them you can have the most magical wedding at Glen Echo- it really is a fun and unique venue and no one will forget it. -
