Beyond Magical - The Venues of All Venues for us!

“Jawdropping,” “Magical,” “Straight out of a magazine cover,” were just a few descriptions we received from our guests! George Peabody proved to be more than jusy a unique venue but a truly memorable one. The staff was also phenomenal and have been awesome since day one. We were beyond happy at how everything turned out and it was really one of the most beautiful nights of our lives. I’d choose George Peabody over and over again!

    Perfect venue

Now that we got married here, I can't imagine getting married anywhere else. The space is stunning. You don't need any decoration (we got string lights, which looked nice, but that was it). The venue is easy to work with, easy to get to, close to several nice hotels, in a beautiful neighborhood and was a breeze to plan with. We toured once, signed the contract, they worked great with our other vendors (their vendor suggestions were super helpful) and our planner. We went back about a month before our wedding to do a walk through with their coordinator (who is great), our planner and our caterer. It was honestly, very easy!! There is even a bridal suite area upstairs that is perfect for signing a ketubah if you're Jewish. Photographs were stunning, everything was great. We didn't have to worry about weather because everything was indoors. We had 166 guests and I was worried the dance floor would be too tight, but it was perfect and fun. The best venue!!!!

We got married at the Peabody in June 2024 and it was amazing! The venue is so unique and so different. It doesn’t require a lot of flowers or extra frills because it’s so stunning! We rented the staircase for extra photos which were amazing! The staff was so nice and helpful. It’s in a great location for guests. 12/10 would get married there again

Most magical venue in the world

If you are looking for the wow factor, this is the place! I've been wanting to get married here since forever and all my wedding dreams came true last weekend. It was just beautiful and so magical. There's no other way to describe it. Everyone will be blown away by your venue choice and just be in awe of the place. Sam, one of the day time special event coordinators at the Peabody, is just fantastic to work with throughout the process. On the night of, I was happy with their people as well. I would recommend getting a planner/coordinator and hire other vendors that know the venue because there are certain rules to be followed. However, when you have an experienced planner... following the rules isn't too difficult. The hanging lights are worth the extra expense!

    Elegant and Historical

Our daughter and son-in-law selected the George Peabody Library for their wedding reception. The Peabody is known as one of the most beautiful libraries on earth. Its architecture perfectly complements transformation into a stunningly, picture perfect wedding reception setting, especially, in our case, with soft lighting strung across the atrium that beautifully accentuated the five tiers of black and brass railings and frosted glass ceiling.
Judy Moskowitz and Sam Bessen guided us through the application process. We fully appreciated the unique need to preserve the Peabody’s character and contents, which is the reason it is one of the most, if not the most, sought after venue for receptions. No other venue even comes close to its richness in Baltimore history and sheer opulence. It is an experience in and of itself.
Our guests were in awe upon entrance into the Peabody Library, and that, along with every other detail, set the mood for an unimaginably, unforgettable, perfect evening!

    Truly unique experience!

We absolutely loved having our wedding at the library. The space is so beautiful and unique. Sam & Judy, the Peabody event staff, were so easy to work with and answered every one of our questions. I would definitely recommend taking all of their advice (including the caterers advice) on how to set up the room, local vendors, and day of coordination details. They are experts! We really wanted the dance floor in the middle of the room, but were glad we went with the suggested end of room approach as space was limited. I also agree with the ideal band size being 5 (although ours was 10 and it all worked out!) definitely look past the “rules” of this place — who cares if you can’t have candles when you have beautiful dimmed lighting already built in.

    Breathtaking venue, wonderful staff

There are no words to describe the majesty of the Peabody Library. It is truly such a stunning venue. I could not imagine celebrating our love anywhere else. There were times throughout the night that I just had to stop and drink in the library. I would look around and feel such immense happiness that we chose to celebrate in a place full of such wonder and amazement. The staff were beyond helpful. From planning a walk-through to organzing the drop off and load up of several items, including an 8-foot book, they were always available. I never had to stress because of lack of communication. I never felt my day was just one of many for them. They truly made us feel like our day was as special to them as it was to us. I cannot tell you how important that is. You will love the Peabody. It is truly breathtaking. You will love the staff even more as they endeavor to show you they care as much as you do.

    Beautiful Venue

The George Peabody Library is such a beautiful and unique place for a wedding that it requires very little, if any, additional decorations. The event coordinating team was very professional, accommodating and easy to work. A big THANK YOU to them for making our wedding dream come true!

I could not have picked a more perfect venue for our wedding. Peabody certainly has rules and strictly enforces them; however, I found the rules easy to apply and work with. The staff was organized and friendly. While they kept the event running smoothly and effortlessly, I hardly noticed they were there until I need them. Getting to watch the guests' faces as they entered the stacks room was reason enough to book the venue! It is truly a breathtaking and magical place.

My husband and I were married at the George Peabody Library on 6/17/18. We held both our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception in the space. We had a small wedding with <100 close family and friends and the venue felt just right for us. Judy Moskowitz and her attentive staff are the absolute best--very accommodating, professional, and responsive. We were blown away by their level of service and we are so glad we were able to hold our wedding at the Peabody. We actually did not even look at any other venues!! The venue is absolutely gorgeous and (as one of our guests told us) the space literally takes your breath away. The venue is very good value because 1) the tables and chairs come with the venue (and you do not have to rent these separately); 2) the space is already beautiful and requires minimal to no additional decoration; and 3) special lighting is not necessary (we did not use any overhead or floor lights and our photos were excellent). We love telling people that we got married in a library surrounded by books and there is something so fun about rocking out to an incredible live band in a usually quiet and introspective place. Furthermore, we met each other while working at Johns Hopkins so it was special to be able to get married at a Hopkins property. The Mt. Vernon neighborhood is dear to our hearts and of course we loved having our professional photos taken in the immediate area surrounding the Peabody. There is not a single thing we would change about that special day and the George Peabody venue and staff were a huge part of making this day the very best day of our lives.

One visit to the George Peabody Library and it speaks for itself. The venue was so gorgeous we needed little else to decorate for the wedding. The Peabody staff were wonderful to work with and quick to respond to questions. While leading up the wedding, they were well organized and helpful with planning related issues. They were fantastic the week and especially the day of the wedding. While there are some rules and regulations to the venue, it didn't hinder our ability to celebrate the way we wanted to. We used the exhibit hall for cocktail hour and the library for the ceremony and reception. We loved the change of space between the ceremony and reception. Many of our guests commented that they enjoyed reading more about the venue during the cocktail hour through the exhibit. The accommodations of the bridal suite to get ready was a wonderful extra addition for us to use and relax on the day.

We were incredibly lucky to be able to have our wedding at the George Peabody Library. Having grown up in Baltimore, I have visited the library many times and was well aware of its reputation as one of the grandest venues for events. When a Saturday night in June opened up at the last minute, we grabbed it. We were not disappointed. The space more than lives up to the reputation and is even more spectacular than it appears in pictures. One of the best aspects of having our wedding at the Library, however, was working with the Johns Hopkins Special events staff. They were ALWAYS available, had great recommendations, and were incredibly easy to work with. When a slight issue came up during the final planning stages, they swooped in and took care of things immediately. I cannot recommend this venue enough!

We had our wedding at the Peabody Library in mid-September 2017. This was felt like a wedding out of our dreams. This is an amazing venue and you have to see it to truly feel how magical it is. The cocktail hour room is the perfect size and beautifully lit. It is a great transition to the magic you will feel walking into the reception hall which is the actual library. The venue has a preferred vendor list of caterers and this made things very easy for us. We chose Occasions and they made everything leading up to our wedding day a breeze. An added bonus to this venue is the private tour of the private selection of books.

We cannot say enough amazing things about the Peabody! Firstly, the venue itself is something out of a fairy tale. Everyone at our wedding was positively raving about the beauty of the space and haven't stopped complimenting the venue since our wedding. We're so pleased to have chosen the space - it made our day absolutely perfect!

The Peabody accommodated our request to have the Oriole Bird attend cocktail hour and he was positively the hit of the event! It was great to bring a part of Baltimore sports into the historic space!

What can even be said about the Peabody? The venue is breathtaking without even a decoration. Add flowers and lighting and you are in something out of a fantasy. If you are a bibliophile like my husband and I, there is nowhere better. This is the venue of your dreams.

But the Peabody is wonderful not only for its beauty, but for its staff. For a bride planning without a wedding planner, they were so accommodating to my family and I, even setting up an extra meeting for coordination just to alleviate some of our concerns. I cannot imagine a better venue than the Peabody Library.

The George Peabody Library is an absolutely stunning venue. Even when we were there the night before for the rehearsal, and nothing was set up, the space was magical. We were so happy with the process, each person we worked with, and all of their vendor suggestions. They answered all of our questions and worked together with our coordinator to make the whole event as smooth as possible. Yes, it's a bit expensive, but the Library is worth every penny. I could not be more thrilled with how our wedding went. And now we get to remember its beauty in all of our pictures!

Such a pleasure to work with them.

Working with the George Peabody Library Events staff for our wedding was a dream! Everyone in the Events Office; particular Judy Moskowitz, was highly responsive and very informative. The staff went the extra mile to make our Big Day run smoothly, such as sending me photos of library catalog measurements for my escort cards and taking the time to discuss a detailed floor plan with us during our final walk-through. The space is magnificent, but the staff will make you feel like royalty.

I ADORE this venue! We had our wedding at the Peabody in July 2016 and the library was transformed into the most magical place. From the ceremony where light streamed into the main library through the skylight, to the intimate cocktail hour in the Exhibition Room (where our guests were excited to view the exhibit), to the unbelievable reception catered by Occasions. The staff at Peabody were incredibly prepared, responsive, and easy to work with. All of our needs were met above and beyond our expectations. One of our wedding guests loved the Peabody so much that she's decided to have her wedding there in March! Highly recommend this venue.

The Peabody was our dream wedding location. Everything was wonderful, from the room itself to the helpful and friendly staff. We added some lighting to the room for the event and it really made it feel extra magical. The Peabody is more expensive than some other venues in the area, but it was well worth it for us in the end. Our guests and vendors all told us that it was the coolest wedding venue they'd ever been to. As a side note, we added the tour of the rare books room at the library for our wedding party on the rehearsal day and it was amazing. Paul gave a really interesting tour that everyone really loved. We would 100% recommend the Peabody to any bride and groom who are bibliophiles and want an awe-inspiring event.

My husband and I never really had any doubt we would be married here. We knew we wanted a library, we knew we wanted to get married somewhere that was already dressed up enough and had an elegance of its own. When we saw the George Peabody Library's website we had to get married here. From the day I emailed Judy at the Private Events office, to the night of the wedding after we walked down the steps as husband and wife, we were thrilled with the experience. Professional, courteous, knowledgeable, patient, kind and caring, the Private Events staff was marvelous. It made it so easy that there were only a few caterers to choose from, and even better that there was a preferred vendors list for us to choose from to naturally narrow decisions down. My husband and I have no connection to Baltimore, and so when guests asked why we chose that to be the location of our wedding, we would say "wait until you walk in the room". Several guests came up to me that evening and the day after the wedding and said "we get it". The evening couldn't have been more magical, thank you!

Getting married in this spectacular historic setting was a dream come true! The library provided a breathtaking, romantic, and memorable backdrop for our ceremony and reception. Our guests were blown away by the library and we continue to get compliments on our venue choice. Judy and her team were incredibly responsive and organized throughout the planning process. They worked seamlessly with our wedding planner and the other vendors we hired, including Bonny from Chef's Expressions, who provided a wonderful three-course meal for our guests.

As others have noted, there is an additional fee to take photos on the spiral and grand staircases at the Peabody. I recommend that Hopkins absorb or add this fee into the total rental cost for the library so that everything is paid for up front. One other thing to keep in mind: if you have close to the maximum number of guests for dinner and dancing, the dance floor will be fairly small, especially if you hire a large band.

Everyone we worked with at the Peabody was so professional and polite. Photos are not allowed in the bridal suite, which some brides may not like, but it was fine by me because I did not care to have those anyway. It was kind of a hassle having to find the right people on the day of to let us back into the bridal suite (you need a key to get up to it in the elevator) and our things had to be out of the room by a certain time so it was a little hectic running around. It is a little pricey for a venue - but for the "wow factor" and the convenience of having the ceremony, rehearsal, cocktail hour, and reception in one spectacular location it was worth it in our eyes and overshadows the little bit of stress of the bridal suite situation. They made the selection of our other vendors very easy by providing a "recommendation" list which we used to decide on the other services we needed. It made planning our wedding so straightforward! If we had to chose all over again, I will always choose the Peabody.

We loved this venue. It was perfect for our Welcome/rehearsal dinner and it is beautiful. The staff was very helpful and easy to work with. The only complaint I have is that they charge you to use the circular stairs for photos!! To me that's nickel and diming people. AND you can only use them for a 2 hour period instead of all thru your party time. Other than that, everything was great!!

I am thoroughly convinced that there is no venue more beautiful. Judy at the Peabody is wonderful and was super responsive and ensured everything went smoothly during planning. Beware of some hidden costs (use of staircase for photos, use of piano). Also, there is no parking in the area, so you will need to arrange to have shuttle (I highly recommend) or a valet service for guests, though then you have to worry about people drinking and driving.

My wedding here on 7-11-15 was absolutely perfect in every aspect. The library is just GORGEOUS!! There is no place in Baltimore that compares to it. The staff at the library (minus the security guard) were a pleasure to work with (Judy, Laura, and Michelle) and they were responsive to my MANY needs, questions, and requests.
The day of the wedding, Michelle was beyond wonderful, so helpful, accommodating, and sweet! Everything ran so smoothly.
I have always wanted to get married at the library and it turned out just as beautifully as I had imagined. I hope I am fortunate enough to attend a wedding there as a guest so I can be there again :)

Believe it or not, I found this venue on Pinterest. All this time living in Baltimore, and I had not attended even one event here, or had even heard of it. Once I saw it, I knew I had to have my wedding here. It is stunning! Cozy, with the smell of books, literature, and flowers in the air - the perfect backdrop for the perfect wedding. All of my guests were in awe. The staff made it very easy to plan my wedding including a list of vendors who are very reliable and familiar with the space. This historic venue will not disappoint.

We LOVED this venue for our wedding!

The staff was professional and willing to help us with any and/or all of our questions and concerns. As a nervous bride, I made several phone calls to the office with questions about the timing of the event and other small details and was always greeted warmly and was assured that the staff were willing and eager to work with us to make our event the best it could be. From Judy Moskowitz, my main contact in the Private Events Office to Chris Brooks, the event manager for the day, I had nothing but positive experiences with the staff.

It goes without saying that the venue itself is breathtaking - our photos are BEAUTIFUL and both my husband and my families LOVED having an event in such a wonderful atmosphere. The price of the venue initially seems quite steep, but when factoring in the quality of the venue and event management that comes along with the price, it seems well worth it. To help offset the cost, we decided to have our wedding on a Friday, which worked well for our guests and kept us within budget.

They do restrict catering to one of two caterers, Classic Catering, and Chef's Expressions. We went with Classic Catering and they were very willing to work with us on finding a price point that we could afford (which turned out to be less than what we had been told was their usual minimum). The Peabody Library and our point person from Classic Catering, Lynn Piette, seemed to have worked together very well in the past and even knew each other on a first name basis. Judy M. seemed to know all the ins and outs of working with the caterer and vice versa, so there was very little left for me to have to deal with in terms of going between the two parties. They worked together seamlessly to pull off the event just how we wanted it!

An absolutely beautiful venue. We got many compliments and our pictures looks fantastic with the beautiful background of the library. One of our favorite parts was waiting upstairs in the private room. We were able to hear the musicians playing and watch our guests being seated without them knowing it! The event staff was helpful and worked well with our wedding planner.

Linda and Judy at the Peabody were always super responsive to all of my email requests. They even reached out to me a few times to see if I had any questions or needed anything without me asking. Some may disagree about the value rating, but come on...there is no other venue in Baltimore that compares to the ambiance here. Our guests are still talking about how stunning everything was! We had out wedding reception at the Peabody Library. It is a one of a kind space and definitely recommended. Given the cost of other events spaces in Baltimore, for what you get I think it is reasonable. The staff at the library were easy to work with and coordinated everything with our caterer, band, and florist so I didn't have to worry about that the week of the wedding. Everything ran smoothly and the venue makes for a beautiful evening.

The George Peabody Library is absolutely breathtaking!!! The first time we walked in, our mouths just dropped and we knew this was it.

Judy Moskowitz was our events coordinator, and was just great to work with! She was very responsive and helpful with any questions we had throughout the planning process! All of her tips and preferred vendor list also made choosing the rest of our vendors so easy! We had such an amazing team of qualified, professional and friendly vendors that worked together to make our dream wedding come true. One the wedding day, the Peabody staff helped make sure everything ran so smoothly. Judy even took a moment to bring my new husband and I into the reception area from a back way to see everything set up before the guests entered. It was such a special moment for us to be able to take everything in together!

The Peabody provided the perfect backdrop for a romantic winter ceremony and reception. We were able to dim the lights for a more intimate reception, and then have a brighter, more dramatic atmosphere for the reception. Our guests could not stop raving about what a perfect venue it was!

If you are looking for a venue with the “WOW” factor, this is it. The Peabody is so unique and definitely made our dream wedding come true.

Dream Venue. The George Peabody Library provided the MOST beautiful backdrop for this momentous occasion in our lives. Judy Moskowitz was a pleasure to work with and was highly responsive, answering our many questions throughout the process. There are some guidelines and regulations, as with all historic venues, but we were informed of these from the very beginning and it was no problem to work within these parameters. Judy provided a preferred vendor list that helped us select a professional and knowledgeable team to execute our vision in this very unique venue. We built such a great relationship with her over the year of planning, which took place via phone and email, that she stopped in on the rehearsal just to meet us face to face although another member of her staff was overseeing things! The Peabody is truly a breathtaking space. Baltimore Bucket List #27: Attend a wedding at the Peabody Library - CHECK!

I had my wedding this past weekend, October 6, at the Peabody Library. I'm not sure why anyone gets married anywhere else in Baltimore -- it is such a breathtaking, romantic space! The limitations of the library are minimal; the event staff is a pleasure to work with and were flexible in allowing us to drop off items during our rehearsal and allowed us to pick up items on Monday after our Saturday wedding. There was a day-of coordinator who ensured that everything went smoothly and that guests found their way. Don't fear the "no red wine" -- red wine was served inside of the library space, just not during our cocktail hour in the exhibit space.

While the catering options are limited, I would have picked Chef's Expressions as my wedding caterer no matter where we had the event because their food and service is top notch.

Trust me when I say the library is worth every penny -- it is a ceremony and reception venue that your guests will not stop talking about!

The George Peabody Library is a venue like no other! We knew from the minute we saw both the exterior and interior of the library that it would create the backdrop for an unforgetable evening. We held our reception at the Peabody and cocktail hour is held in the gallery while the doors remained closed to the library. I can't tell you what an dramatic entrance that creates when the doors are opened with the band playing and the guests see the library for the first time! Our reception was the best night of our lives and everyone is still talking the beautiful venue. Thank you to Judy and Anna who were a delight to work with and Bonny, Jen and the team from Chef's Expressions for all your hardwork and delicious eats. Our reception went off without a hitch and it was better than we could have ever imagined!

My husband and I had our reception at the George Peabody Library on March 31st, 2012. It was the best night of our lives, and our guests are still talking about the venue. From start to finish, the Library and staff, specifically Judy and Anna, could not have been more accomodating and responsive. They were a pleasure to work with, and I can honestly say that now that the planning is over, I will miss our frequent correspondence. Judy and Anna were patient, and kind, and helpful every step of the way. They went above and beyond, including bringing in a piano for our cocktail hour! I would recommend this venue to anyone.

The George Peabody Library was a magnificent place for our daugther and son-in-law's wedding! With both of them being in the field of journalism---involving a lot of reading and writing---they loved the beautiful, historic, literary setting of the Library. Judy was a pleasure to work with during the 8 months of wedding planning. She was highly responsive, answering our many questions throughout the process. She was organized and clear in all communications. Yes, the Library has many regulations as do all museums, working libraries, and historic venues. Judy and staff informed us of these regulations at the very beginning of the process. Since the bride and groom felt comfortable working within the specifications of the property, the planning went smoothly. We found it very important to hire vendors who are familiar with working in the Library, and Judy provided us with a preferred vendor list (and there are only 2 caterers approved to work at the venue). Many of our local guests had never attended an event at the Peabody Library; they joined our many out-of-town guests in enjoying the gorgeous wedding! It is unique---the beautiful site added an additional "Wow!" factor to the happy event!

The George Peabody Library was an unforgettable place to get married. The staff at the events office was incredibly helpful, well-informed, and very responsive. They always responded to my emails very promptly (same day). And while there are a number of rules you must follow if you have an event there (understandably - it is a library). They were surprisingly flexible in many ways. We wanted the chairs set up differently than the norm and they had no problem with that. We were able to do all of the decorative things we wanted to do and while it was a little pricey (from our viewpoint) it's totally worth it because the Library is so beautiful AND chairs are included with the space, which is nice. The only down side I can think of is that there is no place for the bride to wait for the ceremony to begin that is on the same floor as the event space, but you can plan around that. All in all, it was the perfect place for my husband and I to get married!

We worked with Amber Hamilton half the time (she has since left) and then worked with Mary Hance. Both were fantastic -- very responsive, informative, prompt, and friendly.

This venue is beyond words. It's the most spectacular place we found for our reception (we had our ceremony at the Corpus Christi Parish nearby -- also WONDERFUL!). When decorated, the place is breathtaking. Our guests have told us multiple times how magnificent the library was and how beautiful the whole wedding looked because of the beautiful church and the beautiful reception venue.

However, when we first visited the library during normal business hours as a working library, I was a little disappointed. It looked really small in comparison to the photos we had seen. Don't let this fool you...when they change the lights, push back the tables, and decorate the place, it looks at least 2x bigger.

The day-of staff was super professional as well. They took care of all the little things a typical bride obsesses over (getting the table set up the "right" way, making sure the bride and groom actually get a chance to eat, etc). The library also has a bridal changing room on a different floor which is good for people who plan on having the ceremony there. We had a separate Korean ceremony during the reception, which included a change of clothing and a change of layout to the space. Again, they were on the mark.

My only gripe is about their restrictions on photography outside of the library. But for legal/proprietary reasons, I get it and it makes sense. But paying $2500 for a fantastic venue + awesome service is a steal of a deal.

I knew the second I walked into the library that this was where I wanted our reception to be. It is one of the most beautiful rooms I've ever seen, a real show stopper. If you are getting married in Baltimore make sure you at least go see it in person. The pictures hardly do it justice.

The Peabody was a terrific space for our reception. The size was perfect for our 100 person wedding and everyone was wowed with the space. A couple of tips:

    1) we got uplighting for our columns. while it was a nice touch, it was totally unnecessary, and it was a rainy, dark night.

    2) we kept a center area cleared for dancing. it was pretty necessary for circle dances (like the hora) - i don't think we would have been able to fit everyone, and everyone did dance) otherwise.

if we had to do it again, we would have chosen the Peabody - we were super pleased and our guests were very impressed.

We met and got engaged in a Barnes and Noble, so getting married at the Peabody Library was perfect. When you walk in, the view of the Reading Room is stunning. So many guests loved the unique venue. The fee was more expensive than other venues we considered, but I'm so glad we decided to have our reception there. There are some stipulations (no red wine in the Exhibit gallery), but that was not an issue. The staff at the Peabody Library and Amber Hamilton were joys to work with and answered my e-mails quickly. They were very accommodating with our requests. It was 40 degrees and raining on our wedding day, and the staff at the Peabody Institute gave us special permission to take pictures in the Grand Arcade and Staircase, which is usually not allowed. Wonderful!

Our wedding (ceremony and reception) was at the Peabody Library on 5/16/15- it was absolutely incredible - all of our guests were floored by how breathtaking the venue was and it made for gorgeous photos! Additionally, the team at the Library were great to work with- Judy in particular was very helpful and responsive to emails- and was very patient with all my questions! Added bonus- discount for JHU alums!

Booking our wedding at the George Peabody Library was the most essential decision we made, right up there with a great caterer. Judy Moskowitz and her team at the library are wonderful and very responsive. When we visited the library during normal business hours, it was difficult to imagine all of the tables set up for the reception. However, Judy allowed us to come back and take a peek of a wedding reception from the kitchen. When the library is all set up for a wedding, it is absolutely breath-taking. Trust me, you do not want any other backdrop for your wedding pictures. All of our guests raved about the library’s beauty and mysterious charm.

Although there are certain restrictions at the library, given that it is affiliated with John’s Hopkins University, these are minor in comparison to the overall beauty of the venue. Although you cannot play amplified music in the cocktail room (string quartets, piano, guitar only), we did not mind since guests were busy talking and this gave our DJ time to set up between the ceremony and reception. Also, no birdseed or flower petals allowed for guests or the flower girl to throw for safety reasons. We gave our flower girl a pomander to hold which was just adorable. Last, no open flame or candles. Instead of candles, we used pinspotting on our centerpieces provided by Event Dynamics which was just beautiful. We also used this for our sweetheart table and cake. For the cocktail tables, we used battery-operated candles provided by our caterer, Chef’s Expressions, and flower petals, which looked very elegant. No one even noticed the lack of open flame, birdseed, or cocktail-hour music. The venue more than makes up for these restrictions.

Judy and her team at George Peabody Library were wonderful!! Michele Howe was the Supervisor on our wedding day and did a fabulous job. Highly recommend this venue. If you are on the fence, just Google pictures. The library, and your wedding pictures, will be absolutely stunning!

The Peabody Library is stunning! I have lost count of all the wedding guests who told me or my fiance that the library was one of the most gorgeous venues they had ever been to. The setting is elegant and unique and the cost of the library was downright reasonable compared to some of the Washington, DC and beachfront venues we researched. The library staff was also extremely pleasant to work with and both approved caterers are great choices - especially Chefs Expressions. I highly recommend!

    Magical Venue

The George Peabody Library is one of the most beautiful venues in the country and it is SO special to be able to host a wedding there. The whole process was seamless and everyone on their team was professional and offered a personal touch. We loved working with Laura and Sam and are so grateful for their quick responses, and help bringing our vision to life. We will cherish these memories forever!

Wow your guests and guarantee a magical ceremony and/or reception

We visited - and only truly considered - one venue for our wedding: The George Peabody Library. If the wedding vibes you are seeking include words like - magical, romantic, and awe-inspiring, the Peabody is for you.

We worked mostly with Judy at the Peabody and she was an absolute joy. She responded so quickly and so thoroughly every time we contacted her. The Peabody has weddings basically every weekend (plus Fridays), so Judy has seen every kind of setup and timeline. This was very comforting.

Yes, there are rules, but most venues have rules. The only rule that may bother people is no open flame, but we had fake votives and you absolutely cannot tell the difference- real flame was not missed in any way. Keep in mind the venue is a real library and music school, so it is not open on New Year’s Eve and some other holidays, but no rule can take away from the grandeur of the reading room where ceremonies and receptions take place.

If the Peabody is in your budget, do not hesitate to book it. It will wow your guests and guarantee a truly grand wedding. It rained on our wedding day and I could not have cared less because our venue (ceremony and reception) was the Peabody.

Hi! We could not have been more happy with our wedding day! The Peabody Venue was the perfect spot for our reception and we could not have been more thrilled with how everything came out. Our guests loved it too! I can't stop looking at all of our pictures over and over again. The only reason I gave a 4.0 for flexibility is because of the restraints that the venue has simply because of the historical nature of the space (which of course I understand). So nothing to be done about that!

Thank you again for everything - we could not have asked for a more perfect day!

This is truly one of the most beautiful and unique wedding venues in the country. The approved vendors know exactly how to provide impeccable service and food as well as elegant decorations within the limitations of a library. The library staff was immediately responsive to any requests and their attention to detail and on sight management made our experience absolutely perfect.

7 years ago I read a blogpost about the George Peabody Library and how beautiful it is. That image never left my mind, and 6 months ago when I got engaged I knew it was where I wanted to get married (even though I had never even visited it)! My husband and I are both teachers, so this was ideal for us to be married in what they call "The Cathedral for Books". My husband and I live in Brazil, so planning a wedding from so far away isn't easy, but the event coordinators worked with my mom and wedding planner (All the Dainty Details) to make my wedding an absolute dream come true. The library is incredibly stunning alone, and then when I added the cafe lighting and flowers, my husband and I were brought to tears (happy ones!). After our rehearsal, the curator even brought out a few special books for us to view as we had some young boys interested in science, and my husband is a science teacher, I am an English teacher and the MOG and sister of the groom are librarians. We saw one of the first editions of Darwin's Origin of Species and Hooke's Micrographia (that one is over 400 years old!). There are a few details that the library cannot be flexible with because it is a historic site, but honestly I don't even remember what they are now because everything ended up so stunningly breathtaking in the end. The way the sound is captured in the stacks room and the setting is truly intimate (even when you have 140 people in there). My husband and I were nervous to pick a venue based off of a Buzzfeed article I read 7 years ago, but we are now OVERJOYED that we went with the library as our venue.

We had 110 guests at the George Peabody Library for my daughter's wedding on 08/15/15. The library was absolutely beautiful, and it was the perfect size for our 110 guests. They have many weddings here, so the staff is very professional and pays attention to every detail. They worked extremely well with all our vendors; it's like a clock with many moving parts that all come together to make everything PERFECT. My only negative is that over the year planning our event we worked with a few different people. It would of been nice to have one or two contacts to rely on.

The Peabody Library was an absolutely fabulous place to get married. I just received my pictures back, and they are stunning -- mainly due to the backdrop of the library! We had about 215 people at our wedding, which was a tight squeeze for the venue. However, Judy at the Peabody Library, along with our caterer, were able to calm our nerves throughout the process and propose ideas to work around this. Judy and her team know what they are doing -- they are professional, experienced, and super nice. The only thing to know about the venue is that flexibility with the library rules is very limited -- but that's understandable. I will forever remember my magical wedding day at the Peabody!

I had a great experience working with Judy. the peabody library is by far the most beautiful venue in baltimore, and my guests were blown away, as were we. Judy was very good to work with - they are strict in their rules, understandably, but she did whatever she could to accomodate my requests. compared to the venue fees of other places in the city that are not as nice IMO, i think it's an incredible value.

We had both the ceremony and the reception at the George Peabody Library and got many compliments on our space. It is a bit pricy for a rental space, but I think it has a lot of wow-factor. I would recommend against using a drape if you plan to have your ceremony in the library...we elected to not bifurcate the room and it looked beautiful. Our ceremony started at 6, and the reception started at 7:30 (with a cocktail hour in the middle there), and because it got dark between the ceremony and the reception the room looked very different for the two events, which was nice. One thing to note: the venue does not let you pipe music into the exhibition room, so you may want to hire a musician (we hired a pianist) for your cocktail hour. We found this detail out the last minute, but it was overall not a big deal.

The Peabody provided the most gorgeous backdrop for our fairy tale wedding. Having a Friday night wedding saved us on venue cost. We were able to have our rehearsal Thursday evening once the library was closed to the public. Our vendors were able to start setting up at 3pm, which gave them ample time to beautify an already beautiful room. You can only choose from 2 cateres, which for me was perfect, after having gone through hundreds of photographers, florists, cake vendors, etc. We chose Classic Catering (who were AMAZING to work with...read my review for them next!). There are some specific rules (no red drinks in the gallery area, no real candles), all of which can be worked around (we brought the bar into the library for the reception or were told red wine could be served at the tables. We also used LED tea lighted candles). E-mails and phone calls took some time, and a few reminders, to be returned. I miss being in the building already, and hearing how amazing it was from our guests will never get old :)

Judy and the staff at the Peabody Library are consummate professionals. They have weddings down to a science and that was completely clear at our wedding. The staff is warm, knowledgeable and hard working. They were responsive, and honest about limitations throughout the entire process. While there isn't a lot of flexibility in terms of vendors at the library, the peabody team worked with us to help us achieve our wedding vision.

I don't need to sell you on the Peabody Library itself. It's breathtaking.

The George Peabody Library is one of the best if not the best venue available not just in Baltimore but in all of Maryland. It is absolutely beautiful. All of my guests kept telling me all night what a beautiful venue it is and I lost count of how many people told me it reminded them of Hogwarts (which to me is a sign that they thought the place was magical). All of the staff was very nice and very helpful. They do have a lot of rules and are strict in enforcing them (which is why I rated them low in terms of flexibility) but as long as you are okay with following them it does not hamper the opportunity to have a truly amazing wedding. I also recommend using their list of recommended vendors. They have 3 caterers you can choose from and then a list of recommended vendors. Everyone except for our photographer was from that list and they were all wonderful. It is especially helpful because they are all very familiar with all of the rules so you know you will be in good hands.

As many people have said, the Peabody is completely upfront with their restrictions (no red juices in cocktail area, no ice sculptures, no candles, no live plants in soil). We did not find that any of them got in the way of our wedding. Our guests were exclaiming over the library's beauty all night, and having the moonlit gardens just outside as people left the reception was magical. Of note, if you have a Johns Hopkins connection (employee, student, etc), there is a (small) discount for booking the Peabody.

The Peabody Library made our wedding day! The staff was wonderful, and helped with everything from ceremony coordination to getting my flowers to me and the bridesmaids. The space is stunning, and the pictures from here turned out BEAUTIFUL. I wouldn't have gotten married anywhere else.

The Peabody Library is a breathtaking venue. We found the staff that was in charge of coordinating with us very responsive and pleasant. The day of there seemed to be some kind of misunderstanding and our guests were not allowed into the ceremony room until after the time that we thought they would be allowed to enter. This was not a huge deal but did end up with our guests crowded into the lobby before the ceremony and missing out on the strings that were playing inside the ceremony space. The venue is not cheap but that was expected. Overall, I would recommend this venue and am very happy that we chose it for our special day.

We chose the Peabody for our wedding reception because we had always loved the building, and because the library is so ornate that there is very little decorating needed. Also, there are several hotels, restaurants, and bars within walking distance which made it very easy for out of town guests. We had very simple tall flower arrangements and did not have any additional decorations and the room was stunning.

The George Peabody Library was an amazing venue for our wedding.

It was not easy or flexible getting permission to take photos outside the venue room. We got a verbal approval but the security guard said that was not good enough for him, he told us that the an hour before I was to walk down the aisle. However, Amber H. did tell us that a particular guard is that way, so he kinda ruined our photo ideas we had planned with the photographer (Pereda Photography). So it was not her fault, rather just an over zealous worker.

Overall, Amber H. was amazing in helping coordinate with Lynn Piette (Classic Catering). We did not need a day planner because with the two of them and all the great vendors worked so well together. The venue is so gorgeous, you can't go wrong! Service, responsiveness, professionalism, & value fantastic!

I would recommend this venue to anyone!! Amber was superb too!
Just get written approval for photos outside the Library!!

I would highly recommend the George Peabody Library for a reception venue. The staff, specifically Amber Hamilton (the special events coordinator) was extremely responsive and helpful from the first inquiry into using the site. She patiently answered any and all questions and was wonderful throughout the entire process. The event venue is magnificent and worth the site fee. All our guests were completely blown away with the venue, not to mention the caterer that works with the venue, Classic Catering was amazing! My overall experience of the library was very very positive and I would sincerely recommend it to anyone.

    The Most Gorgeous Dream Venue

Here's the deal with the Peabody Library. For any of you wanting a MAGICAL venue without having to worry about a rain site (eg. those beautiful outdoor garden/forest/vineyard etc) LOOK NO FURTHER. It is a stunningly gorgeous venue (it has been rated many times as the top 10 most beautiful libraries in the world, google it) and does not need much decor/flowers etc to have it look magical. A huge skylight allows for natural light with stories of open stack books in the main room. They also have select vendors they work with for cafe lighting and uplighting for later in the evening.

The downsides/tricky aspects of this venue are that they have a list of only 3 caterers to choose from, and they're all very expensive, and, unfortunately, the caterer I chose did not live up to the hype. The other somewhat frustrating aspect is that they have a ton of rules regarding photography, set up, breakdown. They have a room you can hang out in starting 30 minutes before your ceremony, but you can't get ready there, and you have to have everything out by the end of cocktail hour. The other bummer was that during out wedding, the security guards yelled at us while we tried to take pictures. It's a working school, and there were classes there, but it's also an expensive event space, and it would have been nice if they had been cordial at least.

All in all however, I would 10/10 have my wedding here again! LOVED IT, and the rest of the staff was lovely there. The process was pretty easy!

    Breathtaking venue

We absolutely loved getting married inside the George Peabody Library. You cannot take a bad wedding photo in the space and the room was easily flipped from ceremony to reception. I want to get married there again (to the same person of course)!

I may be biased, but there is simply no better place in Baltimore to have a wedding than The George Peabody Library. The room was absolutely stunning -- we added some extra cafe lights, but the room itself it so magical you don't have to add much. The staff at the Peabody was helpful, but the extra help we had from our catering account executive, Lynn Piette (The Classic Catering People) and our wedding planner Sharon Boerner (Celebrations Management) was what really created the wedding of our dreams. No detail was spared between the two of them, and of their staff. The Peabody may be more expensive than some other venues in the area, but it was well worth the extra investment if you want your guests saying "WOW" throughout the event!

Judy went above and beyond for me in my recent wedding planning! She was super helpful and made accommodations for me when I wanted to change during my ceremony. The only issue I really had was that the security was rude and very laid back and the space was not as private as expected. My wedding began late because there were kids playing on the elevator (going up and down repeatedly while playing instruments) so my wedding party was unable to get on to make it to the main lobby. The security said there was nothing they could do... considering the space was rented and was supposed to be private (the library charges you to use every square inch), it was disappointing that with other public events going on, they did not secure the area I had paid for, for my guests convenience. I was happy to just get inside the library with my family and friends and get out of the commotion that was the rest of the building that evening.

You can't beat the Peabody Library. The breathtaking location was exactly what we had in mind for our wedding reception. Cost wise, it certainly is an investment but you get what you pay for. Perhaps Peabody is not as "flexible" as other venues but worked quite well for us. As Hopkins affiliates, we received a (very modest) discount which is worth asking about if you qualify. The catering options are limited to their preferred vendor list, but we did not have a problem with that - we were quite pleased with the vendors Peabody recommended.
