Dress Redesign

Gemma and her sister were fun to work with. They were skilled and had an eye for a design that was perfect for my personality. Our wedding was beautiful and I felt very special in her dress. It is a keepsake for sure, i'll wear it on our anniversary, and I got lots of compliments. Thank you both!

A Miracle Worker

Due to time constraints, I had to buy a dress off the rack. My options felt limited, and I ended up with a floor model that was missing a button, had general wear and tear and was a size too big, I didn't have "the one" feeling but I liked the dress enough to take a chance on it.

Adding another layer of complexity, I lost 40 pounds between my initial consultation and my wedding day. Thankfully, Gemma was an absolute miracle worker. She ended up taking the dress in 10 inches total and replaced the original boning with a sturdier option to accommodate my chest size. She accommodated me with multiple fittings close to the date to make sure the dress fit perfectly. You couldn't even tell the dress had been altered or was a floor model, that's how amazing Gemma is. I was so happy with how the dress turned out and at my last fitting with her I finally had my "the one" moment – complete with happy tears!

Gemma's Bridal is the BEST!

Gemma and her team are incredible! Gemma a kind person with a bubbly personality. She made me smile every time I saw her and we always had wonderful conversations. Her staff and store are very welcoming and professional, always clean.

My bridal situation was very unusual. I live abroad and was going to have my wedding abroad, which meant I only could see Gemma when I visited the United States. Many brides would be incredibly stressed about this situation, but Gemma was truly my hero! She was very patient with me, very good about communication via email and was very understanding of my situation. She always made me feel comfortable and taken care of, and that I could trust her with my dress.

In the end, my dress came out gorgeous. Gemma and her team pay attention to detail. I had beads and floral patterns that probably weren't easy to alter, but they did it, and they did it wonderfully! My dress was truly a dream.

I recommend Gemma's Bridal Alterations, not just because of the phenomenal work that they do, but because of the person that Gemma is. If you want someone who knows what they are doing, has a lot of experience AND is a good human, Gemma is the person for you!

Gemma Created My Dream Dress

Gemma and her team are incredibly talented and responsive! Gemma created the dress of my dreams with custom alterations which included removing a long train from a silk dress, adding boning for support of a strapless dress and removing lots of unnecessary material from underneath. I felt very secure in my strapless dress because Gemma heard my fears and concerns and made it bust-proof!

Gemma makes an ordinary dress into the wedding dress of your dreams!

Gemma is such an amazing person and did equally an amazing job on my wedding dress. From the very beginning she was very responsive and helpful, even in the craziness of the unknown with COVID. Gemma was able to get me in right away to alter my dress. She knew exactly what I needed to make the dress fit perfectly and even knew what I wanted when I couldn't figure out a way to articulate what I wanted :) She was able to do some custom alterations by adding a slit to my dress and adding straps. She also made me the perfect custom veil to go with my dress that was simple, beautiful, and elegant. It complemented my dress very well without taking away from it. We had to push back our wedding by a year and she was able to keep the dress safe until I was ready to pick it up. When I got the dress and tried it on for that last fitting, it was perfect! It was everything I had hoped it would be. For our wedding, I couldn't get over how wonderful the dress felt and looked. It was beautiful! Thank you again so much, Gemma, for making a wedding dress into the dress of my dreams!

Made me love my dress!

Gemma completely transformed my dress! The entire neckline was redone to fit me better me better, she changed the shape of the back taking it from a "U" to a deep "V", and structurally re-enforced my dress. My photos don't do it justice, as I haven't gotten all of my professional ones back. I had second thoughts on my wedding dress when I purchased it, but after Gemma worked her magic I absolutely LOVED it and it fit me so well!!! She does amazing work and is worth every penny!!

Beautiful results!

Gemma was incredible in making my dress fit me like a glove! She also guided me on how to sit in the dress and how to bustle the dress since I never really wear dresses! She is so knowledgeable and is an expert in wedding dress alterations. Highly recommend!

Summary of my Experience

I brought in a dress that I was completely panicked about with a design in my head. Gemma perfectly matched that design with the help of her colleagues. The only downside is that I went WAY over my budget. But the work was worth the price.

Amazing, stress free and affordable!

Gemma made my alterations process such a breeze! She listened to everything I wanted and knocked it out of the park. My dress was an absolute dream. She also went above and beyond to make a custom garter and a “babydoll” top from scraps of my dress. (And they don’t break the bank!!) Truly an amazing team to work with for your special day! Couldn’t have asked for better.

Gemma is truly a life safer--or should I say wedding saver! I was completely screwed over by a shaddy custom dress shop and with only 2 weeks until my wedding, I had no dress. I was lucky enough to find something close, but it needed a lot of alterations. In shambles emotionally, I was referred to Gemma. She and her team worked miracles and the dress ended up beyond perfect and just in time for the big day. Gemma is not only a wonderfully gifted seamstress, but a true designer and visionary who assisted me in every aspect of the alterations. But more than that, she is just a genuinely wonderful human being. I will never forget the kindness she showed me. Thank you for everything Gemma!!!!!

Gemma was so sweet and welcoming from the moment we walked in the door. I had really tough alterations since I need it to follow cathedral guidelines and Gemma was full of wonderful ideas. She was patient while I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and she gave great suggestions to help keep the dress beautiful and fun, while still following guidelines. The final product was absolutely gorgeous and I felt beautiful in it. I will definitely be going to Gemma for any alterations I need in the future. I purchased my wedding dress online and it was SUPER long. It fit right everywhere else, so I came in thinking all it needed was a hemming... but Gemma worked her magic and pinned the dress around me so it fit PERFECTLY! I am SO happy with the final fit.

Gemma redesigned my dress into something even more perfect and beautiful than I could have ever imagined! She took a 5-year-old Maggie Sottero sample dress (purchased at Brilliant Bridal), and turned it into a one-of-kind, modern, and simple dress that was perfect for me. It came at a cost, but no penny was wasted. Her work involved replacing the corset with a zipper, removing beading on the bust, and transformed it from a v-neck to strapless sweetheart. It fit perfectly!

Not only is Gemma exceptionally skilled, she’s also really compassionate. Everytime I visited the shop, she took time to make sure she understood what I wanted. She clearly loves what she does, and expressed so much joy and excitement for me. I also appreciated that she graciously offered fashion advice. When I suggested the idea of a one-strap wedding dress, she talked me through the implications (both in cost as well as her opinion on how it would look on my body type). In the end, we agreed to go in a different direction. She’s got the ability to not only envision the perfect dress for a bride, but also to understand the bride’s personality and discover what she will enjoy wearing.

Whatever you need done, I believe she can do it. Do not worry about putting your dress in Gemma's hands. She makes dresses in addition to her bridal/formal dress alterations. My dress was bought abroad but six inches too long. With all the lace at the bottom and with the train, I knew it was not an easy job. The lace, beads and sequins had to be removed from the bottom border in order to cut off those six inches. I wondered what it would look like when that border was positioned 6 inches higher than before. She has the eye. She melded the lace of the border in with the lace that was up higher. It was not busy or cluttered. She may have removed a few things. I'm not sure, but it looked perfect. I didn't have a bustle before, so she created a french bustle. The cost may have been on the higher end of the range that I was expecting, but I guess that it was comporable with other places in the area. There was just a bit of sticker shock for me coming back from overseas. It was a bit over $300. I was initially thinking around $250. She gets really busy, so the sooner you get in the better. I was lucky my wedding was off season.

Gemma was fantastic and amazing! She took all the stress and worry out of what is one of the most stressful parts of your wedding as a bride, the dress fitting and alterations. She is a pro and you can tell that she loves what she does by how much time and care she takes in ensuring that you dress fits and looks great on you and that you walk off that fitting pedestal filling like the most beautiful and confident bride. My dress was all lace and silk and quite a bear to alter but she took so much care and time to ensure everything fit just perfect . She even worked with my mom to make a special garter that incorporated the lace from my dress. Gemma is the only person you want touching your wedding dress.

I found Gemma by driving by. I stopped in one day to see if I could schedule alterations for my wedding gown and they got me in a week later. I am SO glad I did. Gemma is absolutely wonderful. Every time I was in with my mom for a fitting (3 total fittings) we got individualized service. Gemma truly cares about her customers and she does a fantastic job with everything. I'd recommend Gemma to anyone and everyone! When I picked up my wedding dress, I thanked her and she gave me a big hug. I am so appreciative.

Gemma is amazing! I brought her a designer dress off a rack that was WAY to big for me. She had so much to take in and with that, she had to completely redo the sleeves. There was a lot of work involved and you wouldn't even know that the changes were made. Everyone was in ahhh of my dress and how well it fitted me. Gemma and Lynn did any amazing job to help me re-design and tailor my dress to fit my body like a glove. While the base of my wedding dress that I bought worked well, I needed help to add a little extra pizazz to make it stand out. We removed the cheap beading off of my dress and they hand stitched Swarovski crystals to the shoulder and created a spray of crystals over the bust area. They repaired a tear at the back of my dress, hemmed my challenging ruffled skirt, added a bustle, refitted the sides to help the dress fit me better, and dry cleaned my dress before I wore it down the aisle. I felt stunningly beautiful and elegant on my day thanks to their care and workmanship. My husband was teary eyed when he saw me when we did first looks. Once you get your dress, make an appointment to see them as soon as possible. They are busy with a lot of clients. Gemma and her staff does an excellent job and is gifted in what she does. Their prices were reasonable too.

Gemma was wonderful and the service was so fast. I had ordered an evening gown to wear for my wedding and the dress arrived way too big. I took my dress in to be altered on 04/20/16 and it was done on 04/28/16. When I told Gemma and the ladies my wedding date they were so sweet and assured me the alterations would be done on time. They did a wonderful job on my dress and had it ready in record time.

I cannot express how grateful I am that I found Gemma. She took my off the rack dress from something that was "meh", to something that was completely me. I didn't have easy alterations, I am talking major dress modifications. I had the zipper back changed into a corset, needed a bustle, and wanted sleeves added so I didn't have any armpit rolls hanging out. The result was better than I could have imagined. It looked like the dress was made that way. They took such care and precision making sure that everything looked perfect. I will be forever thankful to Gemma and her team for making me feel like the most beautiful bride in the world.

Gemma and her ladies ROCK! They took great care of me (and my dress) and always left me with a smile. Not only did they make the dress exactly how I wanted it, we had a great time doing it. Gemma even went out of her way to make me a special garter at the last minute. She saved the day and I am so grateful! Gemma is the very best! If you want your dress done correctly then I highly recommend Gemma. I was a plus size bride (My wedding was in Oct 2015) and I needed a lot done with my dress. Gemma redesigned the entire top of my wedding gown and by the time she was done it looked more beautiful than it did before. Gemma’s work is pure perfection and you will not be disappointed. She is also very sweet and I enjoyed our talks every time I went in. At my wedding I had so many guests and other vendors who kept talking about my dress! They absolutely loved it and not to mention my husband was stunned by how perfect it was on me. Thank you Gemma for all the hard work, you helped make my day a fairy tale!

I originally bought my dress from Brilliant Bridal in June of this year. From the time I bought my dress until my first appointment with Gemma, I had lost 20 pounds. By the time I had my appointment, the dress that had fit when I bought it was now 4-5 sizes too big. I also gave Gemma the task of a modesty build up of a bolero since I'm LDS and need to have my dress a certain way. I've watched my dress morph from this ill fitting dress that I hope I would still love to this beautiful perfectly fitting master piece. We're not even done with the final fitting and I'm already thrilled with the results I have been seeing. I know that she had to do an insane amount of work on my dress and she couldn't have done a better job. She, her sister and her nieces are always such a pleasure to work with. They understood my fear and helped reassure me along the way that everything will turn out okay. I wouldn't hesitate to refer anyone who needs work done to their dresses to Gemma.

After you buy a wedding dress you don't realize how much time you are going to spend with a seamstress. There is no other seamstress I would have enjoyed spending this time with other than Gemma. She is sweet and fun. She did a wonderful job on the alterations on my very dress and insanely large train and bustle. I will bring any future needed alterations her way for sure!

Gemma and her sister are saints!! I come in with no wedding date...no direction with a dress that was way too small for me because I broke my foot one year earlier. They were organized and had more fashion sense than me! I bought my vail from them which was the most beautiful one I have ever seen. Gemma kept saying...don't worry Joanna, Ill take good care of you. When I had a wedding date.....the dress was perfect. Thank you so much ladies!!

Gemma was amazing! I purchased my dress online, and while it was my dream dress it needed many alterations to make it fit properly. She was very patient with all of my questions and helped me to decide exactly what to do with the gown to make it all mine. Every fitting I was amazed at how much she had done and how her timing was always perfect. Every time I was there it was not only a very professional experience, but the shop was always friendly and fun. I would send anyone I know that is getting married to her shop.

Gemma is so friendly and professional. I felt like family at her store . She knew exactly what I wanted on my wedding dress . I felt like a princess when I wore my dress on my wedding day . Her prices are reasonable and the quality of her work is beyond outstanding . She has also helped me design and alter my other designer clothing . She's beyond a 5 star rating . Love her :)

Gemma is an absolute miracle worker!!! I came to her with a specific vision for my wedding dress and some significant alterations, and she went above and beyond to make it perfect. She and her staff are also incredibly friendly, helpful, and very passionate about their work. Going to my fittings was always such a positive exciting experience, and I would recommend Gemma's Fashion to anyone. A few months ago I came back to Gemma to get a bridesmaid dress altered with a front and back build-up. Once again, it was FLAWLESS! I've been spoiled, and will never be able to go anywhere else for alterations.

Gemma's was more than I could have hoped for! We were flying from overseas, so my alterations weren't on the usual bridal schedule. She for me in quickly, and transformed my dress from "Meh" to AMAZING! She really listened to what I wanted, for back to me very quickly, and really made sure things were right before I left with the dress. She also custom- made my veil!!! And all for a reasonable price!!! HIGHLY recommend!

I cannot recommend Gemma's Fashion and Sewing highly enough. I went to Gemma with a dress someone else picked out for me and wanted to make it "my own." She listened to what I said and before I even had it all the way on, she was already pinning and almost reading my mind. I had a lot of anxiety about certain aspects of the dress but Gemma literally redesigned the whole thing and made it GORGEOUS! I sent a lot of panicked emails but she always made me feel better and the final result was stunning. Unfortunately, I didn't get to end up wearing that dress because we held our wedding in Las Vegas and I needed a different style for the Strip photo tour and reception but the first dress is so gorgeous that I'm going to hang onto it for a vow renewal next year and formal portraits! Meanwhile, I ended up purchasing the second, less formal dress off the rack just a few weeks before our Vegas wedding and Gemma and her sister, Lyn, made it fit like a glove and customized it for me. The hand-beaded spray applique was stunning and I had many guests comment that it made the dress so unique. I feel like Gemma and Lyn are friends now after all we've been through together. I don't know that anyone else would have done a better job or put in extra hours on a dress like they did. You can rest assured that your dress will not leave the shop until both you AND Gemma are 100% satisfied. If you need a dress redesigned, altered, or just personalized a little, don't hesitate for a second to take it to Gemma. I drove over an hour each way to get to her shop and it was more than worth it.

Gemma was a God send!! I was 6 weeks away from my wedding and had SO much work to be done on my dress because of a TERRIBLE ordering experience  After several shops turned me away because my wedding was too soon, Gemma literally saved the day and saved my wedding! I am so grateful for all of her help and all of the work she put into my dress! She is fun, professional, kind and most importantly she certainly knows what she is doing! My dress was not easy to fix as it had so much beading, many layers, and a difficult and heavy skirt to bustle but she finished a full week before my wedding and where I handed her a train wreck, she delivered a miracle in 5 weeks and 3 fittings! I cannot thank her enough for her work! If you have any alterations needed on your wedding dress, you can rest assured that Gemma will get them done perfectly!

Gemma was my saving grace just a few days before my wedding. My dress was from California and was shipped to me less than two weeks before my wedding. I had gotten alterations done in California, but when I received the dress it was clear that I still needed some work done to it. I frantically began searching for a seamstress who could complete my gown with just days before my wedding (and in Prom season!) Gemma was recommended to me by another seamstress who would not take my gown on such short notice. Gemma however told me to come in that day and turned my dress around in a week and just in time for my wedding. Everything turned out to be perfect and her work was worth every penny!

Gemma and the ladies were SO helpful and altered my dress perfectly. I was so happy with the results, and the price!

Gemma custom made my garters and used Swarovski crystals. She even made one from the remnants of my mom's MOB dress, which coordinated so well with my purple garter!

My only complaint was the smell of the starch in the slip. I seem to be the only person that noticed, but just something to improve upon :)

I will definitely be going back for any type of alterations I need!

Gemma's overall did a greta job altering my dress. It was somewhat of a difficult dress to alter since it was a bit big on me and made of slippery material. The under layer was silk and the outer layer was all venetian lace. There was no bust already built into the dress so this had to be constructed. The dress had to be taken in and shortened a little. They were very up front about the cost which was a little higher than some other shops in the area but worth it. All alterations and fittings were assessed up front and included in the price which they stuck to. My dress fit great in the end but I wished it had a little more bust support. The silk of my dress was slippery and I did have to pull it up sometimes. The clip that attached it to my bustier pinched so that was unfortunate. Perhaps one more fitting would have fixed this. I had 4-5 and was very pleased with the service overall.

I had a few small alterations made to my wedding dress and they turned out beautifully! I lived out of town and the staff was very accommodating with scheduling (and occasionally rescheduling) appointments based on when I was in Phoenix. We also had them press and clean my dress before the wedding. Highly recommended.

Gemma was amazing!!! She took my mom's dress and altered it to fit me perfectly and did exactly what I wanted to it. It turned out absolutely perfect and I highly recommend taking your dress to her! I got so many compliments throughout the night.

Gemma did a great job on alterations for me. Another store was recommended by the place I purchased my dress, but they were super expensive! Luckily, a coworker told me about Gemma's. Gemma did it for half the cost, and she did an amazing job. I bought a dress off the rack, so it needed to be taken in quite a bit. She had a great attention to detail as the dress I had a delicate lace train. I was so happy with the outcome!

I don't think I can say enough about Gemma! I came in with my dress on the verge of hating it, seriously I was considering purchasing another dress last minute! Gemma took a look at it and it was basically no problem for her she knew exactly how to fix things. She calmed my nerves and assured me I would love it. When I came back for the second fitting after beginning alterations I was already falling back in love with my dress. The end product, I felt beautiful in the dress and I felt comfortable in it. She did absolutely an amazing job and i'm working with her again on a bridesmaid dress for a wedding I will be in soon and I've referred a bride to be to her already!

I did not end up using Gemma to alter my wedding gown. She was very expensive and basically rattled off a list of things that needed to be done to my dress with little explanation of why and would not give me an itemized copy of the alterations or the pricing. When I called to schedule the appointment to start alterations she insisted the dress be cleaned before she would work and it and tried to charge me $185 to clean it. I got the overall impression she was going to end up charging a lot more then she originally quoted.

I went to schedule to get my dress altered and scheduling was so easy, but found out that there were a lot of mysterious fees that suddenly arose without any warning or knowledge. I went in and had a wonderful experience but was surprised to know that I had to pay in full. To give you an idea, my dress was around $1000 and she wanted $700 for alterations that was simply a hem. I reluctantly agreed and then got home and decided I wanted second opinions. When I asked to get my dress back, it was a battle and there was a five dollar transaction fee and a random $25 "consultation fee" for the 10 minutes she spent with me. When I asked her where this was listed, the response is that is what she charges and didn't have any proof to show me. I felt like since I changed my mind, there was a random fee since she was upset. I spent almost a half an hour battling trying to get my dress back and just left with a sour taste from the whole experience. When I explained to me that it concerned me that things would change with the prices, she yelled that " I just don't trust her business and that she didn't get all of the knot awards for nothing." and then pointed to all of her awards in the back. Just don't go there unless you plan on committing because you will literally have to pay everything and potential "fees" on top of it with your dress as collateral.
